Worm OC i've been thinking abt over the course of the day. Kristina Granqvist/Redstar/Rödstjärnan, Swedish low-tier villain. Changer/stranger 7? maybe? could see it being 6 though, maybe even 5, also theoretically a blaster? dunno. She's an EM manipulator, capable of redirecting and focusing light that's in her general area to a very precise degree. In practice, this boils down to her being able to go invisible at will by rerouting light around her, or going completely black by making it scatter in unpredictable ways so that none/very little of it bounces back to anyone's eyes.

With more focus, she can also manipulate light, changing its wavelengths and giving particles either more or less energy by drawing from the surrounding air. In theory, this allows her to give anyone she encounters an instant dose of lethal radiation. In practice, she's never murdered anyone, and exclusively uses the ability to change how others perceive her, when more convenient, instead of just going invisible. She doesn't wear a mask or any sort of real gear that protects her identity, though when something like that is needed outside of combat situations she has a habit of simply making her face, and only her face, a black void, more for style and showing off than anything else.

She's in her mid 20s and has mostly survived by focusing on low-risk low-stakes thievery jobs, preferring to not draw too much attention to herself while still solidifying herself as a staple of the local cape economy. She's also lesbian, but has so far not managed to make any long-term relationships work more than, like, 2 weeks, partly due to the whole thievery-as-a-living thing, partly because she's just horrible at communicating her feelings to anyone but herself.

She has a dozen different stories about her trigger event and how she gained her powers that she throws around, and noone can really figure out which is the true story. One involves a persistent stalker she had in her mid teens. She never really knew who it was, but it lasted for several years, through several moves by her family, through all of which the persistent feeling of being stalked never quite went away. Eventually, she had a breakdown one night, after which the feeling of being watched stopped, though it took her several more weeks to figure out that she'd gotten powers.

Another story says that she never had an actual trigger event - while breaking into some rich guy's house, she found several metallic canisters filled with fluid, along with documentation saying that she'd supposedly get powers if she drank from one - so she did, almost immediately blacking out. When she woke up, she found that she'd been placed in a jail. Not a parahuman jail, just, behind bars in what seemed to be some sort of holding cell. Experimenting a bit, she realized that her power could turn her invisible, so she did, waiting for one of the guards to see the empty cell, conclude that she'd escaped, and open it to investigate. When they did, she walked out behind them into the open door, and ran.

I know Seger is a legend of this team and a great captain. But she’s 38 years old and hasn’t played in a year. She is the history of this team. Together with Sembrandt, Schelin, Fischer, Dahlqvist, Lindahl and others that came even before them. But not the future. And not the present either, in my view. It’s time to let Magda and Rolfö be the leaders of this team.

The US left Becky Sauerbrunn off the squad, even though she is ”their Seger”. Because they want to win it. And they realised in the Olympics and in their recent friendlies that they can’t afford to bring players that can’t play. At least not many. They’re bringing one that’s not there primarily because of her form, but experience, and that’s Rapinoe.

Maybe Sweden can afford one such player too. But Seger is not the only one called up that hasn’t played in a long time. I’m just afraid that we haven’t called up a squad to win, but settled for wanting to do well. I think Peter is loyal to Seger. He doesn’t want to cut her now that there is finally a reward for her many years in the sport in the form of significant Fifa prize money. And he probably thinks younger replacements couldn’t get us further. Which is probably true.

But a world cup only comes along every 4 years. I don’t think we should use one just to find out what is already obvious. That it’s time for a generation shift.

Also, sidenote. You know Seger and Andreas Granqvist went to the same school? The men’s coach was also criticized for taking Granen to the Euros when he was like 36 and played in Superettan. What is it with that school and producing two quality captains that both lasted until after 35 in their teams?😅

I mean the difference with that situation with the US is that Sauerbrunn was not going to be back in time.

Wouldn't say Peter is calling her up purely based on loyalty. She is an Integra part of the team and even if she doesn't play a full match the entire tournament and comes on or is a part of the rotation she's really important to that team

Blue Babe is a 50,000 year old mummified steppe bison that was discovered by gold miners in 1979, north of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Claw and tooth marks on the rear of the bison indicate that it was killed by a North American lion, an extinct Ice Age cat that was 25% larger than the modern lion. The lion managed to open the bison carcass and eat most of its muscle located in the ribs and upper limbs area. However, the bison carcass froze quickly, making it difficult for scavengers to fully consume.

In 1984, a group of paleontologists decided to cook and eat part of the neck muscle of the bison carcass. Professor emeritus of zoology at the University of Alaska, R Dale Guthrie, wrote about the event:

“To climax and celebrate [taxidermist] Eirik Granqvist’s work with Blue Babe, we had a bison stew dinner for him and for Bjorn Kurten … A small part of the mummy’s neck was diced and simmered in a pot of stock and vegetables. We had Blue Babe for dinner. The meat was well aged but still a little tough, and it gave the stew a strong Pleistocene aroma, but nobody there would have dared miss it.

The meat in its abdomen had spoiled before the bison was completely frozen. But in the neck area small pieces of meat were found attached to the skull. The lions had left so little there that it had frozen through while the meat was still fresh. When it thawed it gave off an unmistakable beef aroma, not unpleasantly mixed with a faint smell of the earth in which it was found, with a touch of mushroom. About a dozen of us gathered .... on April 6, 1984, to partake of Bison priscus stew. The taste was delicious, and none of us suffered any ill effects from the meal.”

Recommends—Navy Grenadine Donegal Tie From Granqvist

I’ve been looking for a tie like this for a long time. Drake’s has made them; Eidos made one (I have on in green that I love); but everyone who did one did it before I was paying attention and now I can’t find one. Thankfully, Swedish shop Granqvist has one—and it’s part of their permanent collection.

Not only that, it’s an extremely reasonable price—about $75USD. And shipping’s only $10.

I received it a couple of weeks ago and have worn it a couple times. The silk quality is great (it’s made in Italy), and they’ve chosen to line it very lightly. It knots well, but it isn’t a thick, aggressive knot. Untipped with hand-rolled edges, it looks elegant. It’s not a dark, dark navy, but rather the color has life to it.

I highly recommend it.
