it really did take a fae court romance series written by an Indian woman to have all the mentioned cuisine be Indian foods for me to realize ive never actually read a fantasy setting with the kinds of food i eat and never questioned it
like why is it that the furthest ive ever strayed from ye olde white fantasy foods is that one time i let a player in a d&d game invent pizza in the feywild. why is that. literally i dont even represent the foods i eat in the settings i create

Ive shared a few of these before, but my continued adventures of the Exquisite Exandria cookbook, decided to post them all with some opinions and ratings:
1.. Beer Basted Breakfast Brawts: 9/10 The slaw and butter recipes alone are incredible. Ive never been a coleslaw person, in fact long time followers might remember me railing against it at points. This slaw is fucking incredible and the compound butter makes for a *fantsatic* spread for a sweet bread. The Brawts are really good too, but theyre a very basic Soak Brawts In Beer Then Boil And Grill, of course that is good.
2. Spyre by Fire Beer Braised Brisket: 7.5/10 Fine enough oven made brisket recipe. Came out a bit on the dry side, but I think that had more to do with having a very lean piece of meat to start with. That said, I think the cook time was 4-7 minutes for searing and 3-4hrs of oven time, next time Im going to be sticking closer to 4 minuts and 3 hours. Also, the recipe says to strain out the veggies from the gravy. Dont listen to those fools, the carrots are so soft and delicious.
3. Coffee Brined Fried Chicken & Coffee Gravy: 8.5/10 Never wouldve thought to us coffee in a brine for chicken or as the main ingredient in a gravy, but holy shit this is good. The coating is a bit heavy and a little salty, but the chickent was so soft and tender, highly time consuming though because fried chicken is a lot of work.
4. Den Theyless Stew: 9.5/10 Book cost is worth it for this recipe alone. The complex flavors of the Japanese curry alongside the sweetness of the rice wine mixing with the savoriness of the beef is just incredible. Add on the dumplings and this dish is one of my favorite things Ive ever cooked. Only reason its not a 10/10 is the recipe as written doesnt have garlic or celery in it, I added 4 cloves of garlic and 2 stalks of celery and am happier for it. Also, ignore the directions, cook the meat first, remove it, then add the veggies its much easier.
5. Marquisian Street Meat & Concelatory Couscous: 8.0/10 The marinade is simple enough and makes for a fresh, herby taste on the chops (I used pork chops as opposed to lamb chops because lamb is a bit expensive) grills up quickly and easily. I recommend seasoning the meat though. 8.5/10 Couscous is something I have very little experience with but was very good and simple to make. Great option as either a side or a vegetarian meal.
6. Pocket Chicken Pot Pies: 5.5/10. Fine, nothing special. You can see from the picture that this was not an easy cook for me and I wound up having to make mini pot pies as opposed to the pocket one because I couldnt stretch the dough thin enough. Alot of my issues here were the dough, I think I started with the butter to cold...but like...the chicken soup bit was very good?
7. Bad Aim Chicken: 8.5/10 Really good. Easy enough to make and its really hard to go wrong with grilled chicken or pineapple. I personally didnt save any of the sauce for dipping and just used the entire thing as a marinade and dont think I missed anything. Highly recommend for bbqs.
8. Skaldseat Salmon & Heartmoore Harvest: 10/10 for the fish, flaky, juicy, and really well seasoned. My new way to make salmon just about every time, though I do think you could do it with fewer/no lemons if you wanted. 6/10 for the salad. Its...fine, nothing special, though the potatoes do make it a bit different for me. My biggest issue is it doesnt keep that well.

What are your favorite writing tropes for romantic and non-romantic pairings? Can I have your top 5 stew/soup choices?
Also your billy joel take is half-wrong but I love you anyways
Which half my my Billy Joel take is wrong???
Hmm. I don't really think about writing non romantic pairings much? I guess I write Robin and Steve's friendship a little but I don't really think of it in trope terms. I like silliness, anything very stupid. So any kind of friends-encouraging-each-others-shenanigans is fun for me. I just also like trying to make it clear in not a lot of words (because again i tend to write everyone who isn't robin and nancy very sparsely) that they just love each other a lot. Trust and loyalty etc.
For romantic relationships i mean first of all there cannot be more than one bed. I love fake dating though ive never written it i would love to someday. I love reading enemies/rivals to lovers but so far whenever i try to start them out as rivals it's like, nah, they are too soft for each other already sorry. The main thing I tend to write over and over is the "idiots who are in love and just either dont know it or wont admit it yet". It's just where this pairing lives most comfortably for me.
Soups and Stews oh man. This list is not in order, and is non-binding and subject to change. At this very moment these are the soups and stews i would like to have:
Green chili, either a quick after work version with chicken or a richer all day version with pork shoulder
Im calling cassoulet a stew. I am still thinking about the cassoulet i made a couple months ago, i need to make it again.
Classic beef stew with red wine and shallots and mushrooms and carrots and maybe there's potatoes in there or maybe you go buck wild and serve it over mashed potatoes
The Best Chili Ever recipe on serious eats. it's so good bro.
I would never say no to a classic chicken noodle soup

Did I ever mention how much hives absolutely suck. And that you should really, really make sure you do boosters on your kids' MMR vaccines.
Like. There's not accurate enough words for that kinda funny wheezy feeling you get right before they come on and you're just like "fuuuuuuuuck" as you dash across the house to grab the Benadryl before the itching starts.
Itching, and pinchy, stabby pain. You can feel each hive as it appears. Pin-prick. Pin-prick. Pin-prick. And it. Doesn't. Stoooooooop.
Then you get the funny feeling as your system goes into allergy mode, flooding your body with histamines that give you a headache, makes all your joints (lymph nodes) hurt, and gives you a little bit of a fever. Sometimes with intermittent nausea.
And of course your nose is trying to run off your face and eyes want to cry themselves dry.
All of this because I touched a unwashed tomato for exactly 3 seconds.
Funnily enough I can eat them just fine. Same with squash. But I can't physically touch squash, tomatoes, melons, strawberries or potato plants at all. I can't touch or eat anything melon, not even cucumbers. Which is tragic because I love melons. I'm now hyper sensitive to strawberries too and must be very cautious of eating them.
I used to eat them all the time. I loved watermelon, and cantaloupe, and strawberries. I used to love climbing the trees outside and helping mom and grandpa pick tomatoes. And as most kids do, I absolutely adored going to the pumpkin patch to pick up pumpkins.
Then I got measles, when I was 6. All because my mom was too "busy" to take me back to the doctor for my booster shot when I was 2.
I was lucky. I had one shot. Mine was a rare breakthrough case, so I didn't get all the symptoms, and I didnt suffer too much damage to my immune system. But now I am allergic and sensitive to a lot of things I never was before then, like cedar. And mosquitoes, severely. And mold.
And because my immune system was compromised by measles, I suffer unusual flare ups whenever i get seriously sick.
I had H1N1 once, and it's the sickest I have ever been in my life. Two weeks of hell, with a nasty surprise at the end: I was now totally intolerant to bread. Bread of all things! And pork. And corn. Any and everything corn. And soy. My digestive system just screamed bloody, painful murder at the slightest suggestion of these things.
Living in a poor house really sucked for me at that time. Really, really sucked. Because guess what cheap American food is full of? Yeaaah. Corn. Wheat. And soy.
By trial, error, and a whole lot of puking, I managed to figure out wheat and bread. As long as it didnt have any mold inhibitors or preservatives my body would sorta kinda tolerate it. When it wanted to. But I blatantly refused to live in a world without bread, pasta, and cereal, so I didn't give my system a choice.
Corn is still a struggle, but less so. Soy is only tolerated if it's hydrolysed/isolated protein. And pork? Well. Suffice to say I only get to eat bacon once a year or so. Sparingly. Ham can be tolerated better, as long as it's cold and not fried in its own fat. Beef has developed the same issue - possibly due to Covid interference.
But today I touched a raw, fresh, unwashed tomato on the vine, and the sickness I am presently enduring has been a cruel reminder of how much impact that stupid virus could have had... And how grateful I am that I didn't have it worse.
If this is what a breakthrough can do, I dont want to think about first exposure infection. Vaccinate your damn kids, and don't skip appointments.

Tumblr users wifi's Chicken Pot Pie Recipe
Sort of anyway. due to my cooking method the following probably bridges the distance between old timey recipes where the author tells you to take a good amount of almonds and your just supposed to know what that means. and a very online much too conversational approach to instructions. fantastic
Frankly just picking a recipe and doing some freestyling on it is my method. And so my ingredients list is a general idea and if you want the explainers they are after that. and if you for some reason want my directions, which I do not recommend if you need real guidance and not just tips, those are last.
The suggested amounts may make you too much filling for an average pie crust. I do not consider this a problem.
Ingredients Filling
Chicken (or your choice) 1 Pound Onion 1 large. Sliced or diced. (adjust for how much you like onion and how long you like to cook em. caramelized will shrink) Carrot. 1 cup. Freestyle cut. I mince but maybe you cut circles Mushroom. 1 or more cups, again were adjusting for cook time shrinkage. I just cut them last and go until the pile looks right in proportion to other ingredients Potato. I'd love to give u a list of fancy potatoes, but its yukon gold all day every day here. i use one to two depending on size. Garlic. 3 cloves… Heavy scare quotes. I don't want to tell you 6 so then you do 12 okay. just. whatever you want. Ginger, while we're at it, if you like. shout out to garlic ginger paste havers Flour. just to coat the meat and veg, or you could thicken the sauce with cornstarch or other thickener. oh. oil or butter. whatever. pan grease of choice
Spice zone: (no measurements? yeah i know. see digression)
Chicken stock. You have bullion powder or cubes or a jar probably. good. me too. just add to your level of preferred salt and chicken-y goodness. or beefy or porky or veggy. Salt and pepper. you know this one. paprika. dont even. whatever you have. smoked is delicious, ive never had the hungarian stuff okay. oregano cumin turmeric. or saffron if ur rich, or bootleged ur own crocuses. leave out if you hate yellow (ur risk of staining something is probably high) chili powder (reference which paprika you used) ground coriander seed cinnamon or all-spice literally whatever you want. you want a curry pie. make that. you want piripiri pie. go for it. five spice. shichimi togarashi. whatever.
Crust
Enough for top and bottom of your pie. you can find many recipes. in general it will be something like 1 cup solid fat (butter lard shortening or margarine) 2-3 cups flour (pastry, all purpose, whole wheat. whatever. if your doing gluten free look into that) sugar and salt if you want. dried herbs if you really want cold water. a few spoonfuls you can fuck around with leavening even but ehhh
Ingredients Digression: search your heart, and your fridge
Chicken: Thigh would be my preference of course but someone has to eat all the white meat and sometimes that person is you. or maybe you have a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. or maybe your gonna use beef or pork. thats fine. im not your boss. use meat substitute for all i care. The package we got on sale is some .950 kilos, and that clearly too much. so lets say .425 kg. Or just around 1 pound if you prefer.
Veg: Yeah I love mushrooms and I'm gonna put them in everything. Brown or white cap is common, portabello would be extra. Oyster mushroom would be delicious. Shiitake I don't like, and if you ever meet someone who would use enoki in this, have em call me I'd love to hear how that went. You dont like any of these, then don't add em. Leek, celery, peas, and corn all seem like fine choices to me. Any veg you like if it can handle the bake time. I don't ever recommend baking peppers but live ur bliss. As for measurements. I'm not actually using a cup. I just make piles on my cutting board and when i run out of room use regular eating bowls.
Spice zone: If you would like pot pie with just a bit more kick, stick to the paprika chili and cumin. If you wanna go full bananas, you could do a teaspoon of every spice you like. probably not the salt if your stock has salt tho. Keep in mind your own preferences. I don't measure. good luck. really think using spices as what they're for, which is coating and seasoning the food. it should colour the meal but if you can no longer see it you've probably gone to far. Taste and tweak as much as you like.
Pie crust and tin: use your favourite pie crust recipe. or not. or store bought is in fact fine. you just need enough for whatever tin your gonna use. A round tin is traditional and recommended. 18-25cm/7-10 in diameter range. A 4-7 cm/1-3 in deep. depending on size and shape of you hands, bigger than your hand splayed and no deeper than your finger... probably.
Directions: For the Desperate and Bored
Pie crust: Cut up solid fat. Work in flour (and other ingredients) till its all crumbley. looks like sand, breadcrumb etc. Should be a bit dry. Add cold water to bind it in a dough. Add this gradually, u do not want it sloppy style okay? You can do this with your hands, a food processor. Probably not a blender thought who knows. Maybe you put it in a couple layers of freezer bags and stomp on it. All good.
Make it to a ball, or lump shape, and put it in the fridge to firm up. Unless that would impede you ability to work the dough too much.
Rolling it out, or not? Here's the thing. You can just take the warm dough and pat it into you pie tin like graham cracker crust for cheese cakes. Just really compact it and get it up the sides of your tin. Don't say I never gave you anything.
The top crust would be more challenging to not roll out, but you could probably do the same with a greased or lined plate, leave both to chill in freezer. When time to fill, flop it on top of the filled pie, and let it warm up again to seal the pie edges.
If you roll it out. Flour your work surface. Pat the dough flat a bit, roll it out, turn the dough as you go to keep it even. Use you pie tin to check the size. Bottom crust needs to be bigger by how deep the pan is all around.
(See filling directions)
You could blind bake the bottom if you want. Stab the bottom crust with a fork a bunch to prevent bubbles. Either way. Filling goes into bottom crust. Pie lid on top of filling. Press or crimp the edges to seal it.
This is where the size of pan and amount of filling comes up. Make it as tall as you feel comfortable with/physics allow. Any left over filling can be eaten. If you did it right you, personally, will find it delicious. Also pies can take a long time and you might need the snack. Vent the lid (stab the crust. patterns welcome. left over dough can be used as decoration or as smaller pies for a fractal and recursive baking process)
Cooking Directions: Keep in mind the level of doneness you want for each veg, add to the pan in that order. Frozen peas and corn or whatever are going last if you want them in any way intact. If you want to reduce dishes use a real big pan or pot with a lot of bottom surface area My order: OIL UP THAT PAN. i want my veg saute'd not steamed okay? onions first. cook till a little less than you like. garlic and ginger (or any other seasoning paste if your using). you want aromatic not crispy. seriously if it looking ever a little too toasty take of the burner and add the next things and stir a bunch. burnt onions and garlic will ruin your whole meal carrots and mushrooms meat. if you dont want to transfer things out of the pan just push it to the side, watch out to not burn the bottom of that either, ur just moving the two different piles of stuff. you can season the meat before you cook it if you want but im not sure it matters. get to cooking the outside of the meat.. it will fully cook in the simmering sauce (If using Pre-Cooked meat add later) potato. again. cooking in the sauce sprinkle the flour on now and coat everything (i almost always forget this step so if you do thats fine. where just gonna thicken the sauce later) time to go to the spice zone. Add your liquids. Stock, or water with bouillon. some dairy product if you want. if you forgot the flour mix a little with the liquid and make a paste. and add more liquid and stir. add to pan I mean you could also do it by making a roux or bechemal. but its all really the same thing. You can simmer the sauce if you want more cooking time for your filling. (I would add pre-cooked meat and frozen peas or corn here, Stir!) Check for taste and tweak seasoning. It can be a little stronger than you like cause its going it mostly plain pastry.
BAKE IT. We're looking for good crust quality here. also additional cook time if any ingredients need more time to finish. depending on oven and pie size could be 20 mins to like. hour plus. i dunno
let rest before serving or whatever.

the diets pushed on young women are fucking retarded and make you fat and unhealthy in the long term. even if you dont count your calories, your body does, it keeps track of calories better than you ever could. so you start eating a bunch of vegetables, trick yourself into liking them, but your body knows you are essentially feeding it fiber and water. its not sustainable, so you go back to eating a sugar and complex carb heavy diet. getting the majority of your calories from carbs is terrible because your body can only deal with so much sugar at once, and carbs burn fast, so your body just takes what it can and stores the rest away for later in your fat cells. you want to get most of your calories from animal fat. literally just try to eat a lot of meat. the one and only caveat here is dont make ground beef or other processed meats the center piece of your diet, you want unprocessed meat with fat on it. lean meat is fine like chicken breast but i promise if you try to subsist on this you will make up the lost calories in carbs and fuck yourself up. you want fatty cuts of unprocessed meat, think pork chops roast. have potatoes and pasta and whatever else you want, but just try to eat a ton of unprocessed meat with fat on it, thats all you have to do, easiest most sustainable diet of all time, and i promise you it will make you feel and look better.
frankly though every woman i have ever seen who was obsessed with dieting looked better with the extra weight, and every big fat girl i ever knew never brought up her weight or dieting and in fact showed me that a mcdouble with big mac sauce is just as good as a big mac for far less money, its half the burger but you can just get two of them

random fact:  i’m super into video game glitchery, coding, and programming. i may not be able to understand some of it, but nothing gives me more joy than figuring out how games tick and how to utterly break them from the inside-out.
describe yourself as aesthetic things:  a bag of chicken nuggets, a single egg, a basket of fluffy kittens, a massive hutch full of hungry rabbits, a disgustingly pink bedroom with not a single darker color in sight, a purple game boy color under the sheets with a flashlight, fluffy dresses, an amassment of pixilation forming an unidentifiable eldritch abomination... just. y’know. stuff.

Finding a Way: fic part 2 of 2
Read Part One
In response to a prompt from @i-dont-wanna-wrestle asking what would Bill Scully Jr’s reaction be to the news of Scully’s pregnancy? Tagging @today-in-fic
She’d missed the 12 week scan because she hadn’t realised she was pregnant.
“I’ve been missing periods for years. I didn’t think…the symptoms are similar to menopause. I don’t even know what made me do the test. I saw it on the pharmacy shelf and picked it up.” He held her as she shook against him. Even after all their years together, it was so Scully to do this stuff alone. To find out all the facts before revealing them to him. He thought of her cancer reveal. How she’d learned everything she could before presenting the fait accompli to him in that too-bright room.
“We can still get the scan, though?”
“I saw the OB-GYN yesterday.” She cast her eyes down, wouldn’t look at him. The flame of fear burst out of his gut.
“What did she say? Why didn’t you let me come? I want to be involved, Scully. I need…”
Her hand on his chest quelled his fear a little. “I’m sorry, Mulder. You’re right. I should have let you come. But you’ve been…”
“Is there something wrong, Scully? With the...?” His breath got stuck in his throat and a vague pressure built up in his temples. In his mind he was saying sorry again. Over and over.
There were tears shiny in her eyes, loaded, ready to drop. She shook her head. “Not that we could see in that scan. But they’re not always accurate. The risk of genetic or chromosomal abnormalities in geriatric pregnancies is high. An amniocentesis is the best way to be sure.”
“But do you want that, Scully? It’s invasive, isn’t it? There’s an inherent risk in the test itself.”
She pulled away from him, sniffing back those unshed tears. “Don’t you want to know what we’re dealing with here, Mulder?”
She spread her hands over her abdomen. He imagined the baby rolling and turning under them, seeking their heat. This baby, like William, was an unexpected invader. They had made love sporadically over the years they’d lived apart. Neither of them really wanting to draw a final line. But since she’d told him, she’d spent more time at the house and eventually, recently, moved back in. The inquiry into the deaths, into Jackson Van De Kamp’s disappearance, was being dragged out. Kersh had approved their leave with pay but only to save face. It was only a matter of time before everything changed. Before everything changed again.
“I don’t know, Scully. I’m not sure I’ve ever really known what we’re dealing with.”
***
Dinner is at 7pm. It’s too hard to get up. The soft bed pulls him further under, a warm grogginess enveloping him. His brain is mush. He remembers feeling like this for years, it’s why Scully left in the end. He couldn’t get up. Life pulled him under, kept him down for days at a time. While Scully worked, he slept and when he did wake, the fatigue made his limbs leaden and he sat in his study while Scully kept them both going.
“Mulder,” she says. “It’s time to get up.” There’s a whisper-kiss and the faint aroma of Earl Grey. It’s enough to rouse him but when he sees the curve of life at her waist, guilt pinballs through him again.
The light over the mirror is harsh. Maggie Scully judges him from a gold frame on the vanity. “Are we doing it tonight?” His hair is sticking out. His chin is sprinkled with peppery whiskers. His clothes are rumpled. Bill will see him as he sees himself – old, unkempt, not fit to be anything, let alone a father.
           “We’ve faced worse, Mulder.”
He lifts her hand to his rough chin. “But has Bill faced worse than this?”
She lets out a laugh and it settles around his ears. “He’ll come round.”
Mulder breathes out, leaning on the basin. “I’m not sure I have yet, Scully.”
Her face falls serious. Her short hair is pushed back behind her ears, like she used to wear it, but twenty years and a late-life pregnancy makes her face sharper in places. She hides the grey. She uses more foundation to cover not just that fucking mole, but her lines. She’s been  taking multivitamins for years, even though they both know they’re about as useful as bee pollen in yoghurt. She does weight training, Pilates, swimming. She drinks a little alcohol, too much caffeine and indulges in Ben and Jerry’s Salted Caramel more often than she’ll admit. She’s 54. He’s 56. The sum of their years is going to catch up with them at break-neck speed. It’s amplified now but when the baby is born, it’ll be blaring out of every speaker.
“We can’t have this conversation now, Mulder. We have to go down for dinner.” Her hands are kneading her hips and she’s looking at the polished floorboards.
“What happens if there’s something wrong with it? How can we look after it?”
The fear spills out and takes the shape of words. She turns to walk out. He swings round to catch her arm. “I wasn’t there for you and William. And truth be told, Scully, when I came back and he was gone the first thing I felt was relief, because I knew I couldn’t fuck it up. I’m scared, Scully. And I’m sorry.” His hands are around her neck, nails digging into the taut line of muscle across her collarbones. Tears sting his eyes but they won’t fall, just stay there, trapped and useless.
           “We’ll find a way, Mulder.”
***
Scully straddled him and rubbed her wet heat along his length. She was full, ripe above him. Breasts heavy, inviting his gentle touch, hair hanging forward as she rocked, soft thighs bracketing his. She’d been sick but told him she needed to feel him inside her. Her mouth pushed against his and he let go of the fear that had balled up in his stomach like a clenched fist.
She lifted herself up to slide on, taking her time, easing herself down. She grimaced and he held his breath.
“It’s okay, Mulder. It’s just been a while.”
“I don’t want to hurt you. We don’t have to…”
She let her head drop back and he watched her throat as she swallowed and talked. “I want to. I need to. I want to feel something other than nausea and worry. I want to submit to my baser instincts. Besides, the release of hormones will do me some good.”
Her movements were tantalisingly slow, squeezing him. She felt different, thicker, slicker. He had to stop himself from thrusting up too hard but she was flaming around him and his baser needs were building and building. He clenched his buttocks and pushed into her, holding down her hips as he did so.
A pained cry and she sat higher, lifting off him, not quite clear but enough so the rush of cooler air surrounded him. “It’s okay,” she said, voice husky. “I’m okay.”
Her mouth sought his and her breasts fell against his chest. He ran his fingers up and down her spine. Her skin was cool, goose-bumped. “I’m sorry, Scully. Let me help you…”
But she rolled off and went to the bathroom.
***
Tara has cooked a feast. There are three kinds of roast meats, two types of potato dish, pumpkin, vegetable varieties, crusty bread rolls, salads and various sauces and pickles. There’s barely enough room at the table to breathe. Everywhere there is a jug, a pot, a bowl, all perfectly lined up, poised. Matthew has arrived and sits opposite Mulder, a carbon copy of Bill.
“It’s good to see you again, Mr Mulder.” The young man’s hand is thrust into his, over the glazed carrots.
“And you too, Matthew. How’s life treating you?” He’s mentally calculating how old this he would be. Have they missed his twenty-first? He doesn’t remember.
“I’m majoring in Economics, Sir. There’s a post-grad internship at one of the major banks in the city I’m applying for. How’s your portfolio looking?”
Bill guffaws and Tara smiles as she serves Mulder pumpkin and pork. “Oh, I didn’t check, you do eat it, don’t you?”
“For God’s sake, Tara, he’s not a practising Jew.” Bill piles beef and chicken onto his plate. “Any wedding plans, Dana?” he adds, as he mounds potato and peas next to his meat.
Scully, to her credit, simply smiles as she serves herself some vegetables. Tara holds her breath. Matthew pours red into Mulder’s glass and offers some to Scully. She covers her glass with her hand. “None for me.”
“Oh, Dana, I was hoping to get silly with you tonight,” Tara says, cheeks already pink.
“I’m not able to drink at the moment,” she says and Mulder notices the tremble of his hands as he serves himself some broccoli and cauliflower. This is it, he thinks. And he finds himself subconsciously reaching for his weapon. His pocket is empty, of course.
“Are you sick?” Tara asks. Bill watches his sister closely, eyes slightly narrowed.
“No, I’m…we’re… it’s unexpected, but Mulder and I…” she reaches across to him to take his hand. Warm and soft. “We’re having a baby.”
He squeezes, tries to breathe but the blow to his guts from her announcement has winded him. Out loud, here, before her family, hearing their news is like listening to the hundreds of people who confided in them over the years of the X-Files, about poltergeists, presences, ghosts, monster dogs, pixies, doppelgangers, unicorns, Yetis, blood-sucking goats and vampires. He shrinks into himself but at the same time knows he needs to be bigger, stronger, for Scully.
Tara is already around the table hugging Scully before he can even consider Bill’s response, who is watching his wife, his knife and fork clattering to the table. Bill finishes his mouthful, pushes his chair back.
“What in the name of God, Dana? What are you saying?”
Scully wrestles herself free from her sister-in-law. “I’m saying that I’m pregnant, Bill. That I’m having a baby. We’re having a baby.”
Mulder stands behind Scully, hands on her shoulders. She’s tense but he feels her breathing even out and he breathes too. In and out. The pit of fear solid in his gut but anger at Bill’s attitude making it a good fear, a useful fear. They can do this, they can prove them all wrong. They can give this child a life. A good life. A safe life.
“How about congratulations, Bill?” Mulder holds out his hand. Bill’s hands clench at his sides, his jaw sets firm, his eyes drilling through Mulder.
“Yes, honey. This is fantastic news. A surprise, yes, but it’s a miracle. A beautiful miracle,” Tara says, kissing the side of Scully’s face. She rushes to Mulder and hugs him close.
Bill puts down his serviette. It flops open on his food. “What will you do?” It’s not even a question. It’s a statement about their life. Mulder almost nods in agreement. What will they do? They haven’t even begun to work their way through this. There’s too much grieving to do, too much processing to wade through. They haven’t come to terms with the impact of losing William, let alone faced what bringing another child into the world will mean.
“We’ll do what we always do,” Scully says quietly, but with authority, with hope, with the sense of belief that they’ve both been searching for. She loops her arm through Mulder’s, tips her chin up to him and smiles. “We’ll find a way.”

questions questions game:
rules are: if you get tagged you gotta say the rules, answer the questions, create your own questions (11) and tag 11 others so the cycle can continue. so I will tag people, but only answer if ya want!!
so the questions by @epoint25…
1. favorite scene from any movie
…I am racking my brains to remember BEST EVER SCENE but I cant?? Im at a loss??? Maybe the end scene in Dreamwork’s “Home” where Oh gives the “stone” to the Gorg, and explains why the Gorg wanted it so much?? I also love the scene in El Libro de la Vida where Manuel has to deal with the giant skeletal bull…any Cinderella movie the scene where Cinderella is able to leave her abusive fam forever…
Favorite scene in any text story (as I feel these more deeper) are
a)IDW Trypticon in Transformers:Salvation, his end…I only read this is TFWiki (as I JUST read the entire TFwiki on My Son just now) and…Trypticon across all Transformers series has been created for hate and destruction and has never had a say in his like…and the fact that he gets the opportunity to be free and…I cried….
b)scene in the book called “The Rapture Effect” where….basically, the AI, called “Core” in the story is trying to stop a war between an alien group and humanity, and eventually just…has an emotional breakdown and feels so bad about mistakes they made and feels alone and stressed, so two main protagonist humans help them out…and one of the humans have the same kind of insecurities and???? Its an amazing book okay, a recommended read, (though it has some rly drawn out tension and 0/10 female characterization,0/10 use of the diverseness of characters, needs a rewrite bc it has so much potential)
c)How to Train Your Dragon book series, not just a scene but…the whole arc with Furious, and Hiccup growing…aaaaa!!! (please read the series)
2. movie or tv show sequels or spin-offs that you think were a mistake.
…I am also at a loss again??? Can’t think of one rn sorry???
3. do you have siblings, if so do you get along with them?
I have an older sister and brother, I have an ok relationship with them, not as close as I suppose people “normally” have tho…
4. are you a city slicker or a farmboy (boy in this case being nongender specific)?
I live in the suburbs BUT if I had to choose…and its a close call…farm! I love to garden, ( I grew okra this summer, and am trying to grow kale, salad, and swiss chard!), and love the countryside nature. I love city too tho….
5. what was the best grade for you? elementary? high school? College?
Definitely college. In each grade, I ALWAYS had some existential crisis, especially in college, and social anxiety! BUT…I can deal with those crises better than I can with school drama and social circles. In college, aint nobody care about what you do! So, my last two years in high school, I WAS in college at the same time, and hOO boy I would make a storytime about senior year problems!
6. what’s your comfort video game? what do you play to relax?
…I don’t play video games, sorry!
7. who is your favorite actor, and what did you first see them in?
…I don’t particularly care for movies or celebrities tbh XD
8. which do you like more: marvel, dc, dark horse, other?
…dont murder me but I do not like either at all XD. I can not care for the superhero genre if my life depended on it! THOUGH, @eoscomic, @heartstoppercomic , @rejectedprincesses, and @iguanamouth sometimes makes cute comics that can be…weird? in a good way??
9. are you a fan of the transformers? if yes who’s your fav? if not, what is your fav robot\alien tv show-movie-comic-what have you?
…mmmm I have mixed feelings about Transformers…basically, I like certain concepts and characters in various series and know what generally happens in a good amount of continuities, but in no way would I sit down and read/watch a whole series…and I find it hard to talk to people in fandom and feel like people don’t like what I think, so I guess I am not a fan?? Maybe?? pseudofan??
Favorite characters….you cant make me choose just one…Trypticon, Metroplex, Astrotrain, Sunstorm, Skyfire, Starscream, Soundwave, Hound, Huffer, Tracks, Cosmos, Omega Supreme, Kappa Supreme…many I cant think on top of my head aaaa!!!
If you like having your feels ripped out of your limbic system, and sentient robots, watch Brave Police J Deckerd.
10. favorite yankee candle scent\flavor
I have SEEN Yankee Candles before, but I don’t buy candles. My sister buys Bath and Body Work Candles, and I think they smell good!! Dont remember the smells I like, though I remember there was a tomato vine scented candle and it smelled like hell…
11. can you cook? what can you cook? if you can’t cook what food do you like above all else?
I love cooking!! I am taking a culinary class next semester!! I CAN cook, but am not the best admittedly…I am allergic to dairy, egg, and abstain from high fat and pork…I wish I could bake decadent vegan desserts but ??? how??? (I settle for Cinnaholic cinnamon rolls and other rare vegan delectables…)
I like making Tinola (chicken soup with ginger, chayote squash…I add ripe papaya to it) and garbanzo bean coconut curry! If I can’t cook, I’d love to get chicken from Thai BBQ, sushi/poke bowl, or El Pollo Loco. Due to nostalgia, my top favorite food of all time is Beef Gyudon from Yoshinoya, which is sadly not in my state!
Questions for yall!
1) Nostalgic food?
2)What are two seemingly different YouTubers/artists/etc do you like??
3) Side dish: rice, pasta, bread, or potato??
4) 2d animation or 3d animation??
5) Song that is currently stuck in your head/on repeat right now?
6) What is one relatively unknown piece of media/story that you wished others would know about?
7) Steampunk or cyberpunk? (other punk?)
8) Are you inclined to science/math or social sciences/art/humanities?
9) Space or the ocean?

'Tengo hambre.....MOOOOOOOOM WHATS FOR DINNER?' Day 4
I was fancying some good old 'ropa vieja' but also wanted a carne con papá feel to it too! So I figuered what the heck, I can do whatever I want and made a mix of both!
This was so damn delicious and made enough for 4 servings (meat and potatoes only). Feel free to substitute the beef for pork or chicken so long as your shredding skills are decent. And while you're at it, rice would be a good (preferred) sub for the quinoa!
Tumblr media
Ingredients:
-1 onion
-1 garlic clove
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 package of beef stew chunks (roughly half a kg)
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
-10 baby potatoes
-1 red pepper (sweet pepper is important for this dish but green would work too!)
-400 g tinned tomatoes (mine has basil in it because food delivery service likes to play games)
-80 g Quinoa
-I used the can the tomatoes came in to add half a can of water to the crock pot. The other half for the quinoa
Instructions:
See previous post for my awesome but basic rice recipie. I make my quinoa the exact same way, minus the cooking time. I cook the quinoa in the microwave at least 20 minutes to make sure it's nice and fluffy! Set aside once done until you're ready to plate up.
Choppity chop your veggies!
-Fire up your crock pot and set it on low. And DUMP all your goods...hold back on the potatoes though. Starchy goodness comes later.
-Leave it to do its magic on a high setting for 4 hours. Once the hours are up, go ahead and take out all the meat from the crockpot. Dont ya dare touch the rest of the contents, because now is when we add our chopped potatoes!
-After you add in your taters go ahead and crack the heat to high! (Leave it on high 2 hours but this completely depends on the size of your potatoes. The smaller they are the less time they'll need in on high heat!)
Tumblr media
-Time to put those shredding powers to the test! I used 2 forks to shred it up since my meat was as tender as a slice of butter. Set aside until later!
Tumblr media
-Fast forward to when your taters are nice and fork stab worthy!
Now you can go ahead and dump the shredded beef back to the crockpot to soak up all those juices for 15 minutes. Should look something like this!
Tumblr media
As you can see theres lots of liquid, so I personally like to use a ladle and take out as much as I can. Its roughly a cup full! I let this cool and store it in the fridge to then use it as 'water' for when I cook rice later in the week! You could even freeze it!
Once you've taken most of the liquid out, grab a bowl because you're ready to plate up!
Tumblr media
And just like that you've got a nice 'Ropa con papa vieja' twist ready to eat!
Salt to taste!
Buen provecho!
-Nat

                                             The Recipes
Chicken Soup:

Chop carrot and onion, set aside.

Add carrots and fry until coated in oil.
Add water until a large pot is filled about halfway. (You can add more water later)
Bring to boil and then reduce heat and simmer until carrots are soft. Add salt and pepper/ favourite spices to taste. I like adding fresh rosemary and dried thyme
This recipe should make 8 portions. Eat one potion the night it is cooked and then freeze leftovers in 3 portions with 2 servings in each portion.

Chop onions, tomatoes, and zucchini set aside. Cook rice and set aside. Fry onion in olive oil or butter until it is nice and soft/caramelized. If you want to have garlic add once the onions are cooked. Beef Soup:
Olive oil, 1 Onion, 2 cups of Peas frozen or canned, 4 carrots, Rosemary and Thyme, salt and pepper to taste, 1 can of lentils, 1 cup of rice, Frozen or canned spinach/kale/green beans (whatever you like best!)

Spaghetti Sauce with Quinoa:
Olive oil, 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 cans (796ml) of diced stewed tomatoes or tomato sauce, 1 cup of quinoa, favourite pasta, any other veg you want to add! Parmesan Cheese, 1-2 tbsp of dry oregano 1-2 tbsp dry basil

Add any extra veg such as red pepper or zucchini and fry until soft. Add Tomatoes, Quinoa, and spices. Simmer 10 minutes. Serve over your favourite pasta with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. Keep in mind that if you freeze with the pasta, the pasta will be mushy when it is reheated.
Tofu Scramble:
Olive oil, 1 Onion, 1 clove garlic, Aprox 350g of firm tofu or more, 1-2 tbsp of curry or other favourite spices. Leftover veggies, fresh or frozen.
Fry onion in olive oil until soft/caramelized. Add garlic and tofu. Mash tofu in your pan. Add spices and veggies. Cook until veggies are soft. Serve with rice, roasted potatoes or pasta.
*This is an end of the week use up everything you have left over. If you dont like tofu, you can do this with eggs instead.
Roast:
For this meal plan, I am suggesting you make your roast with beets and potatoes. You can change this up however you like. I’m no expert in roasting so I would consult with google/youtube for cooking temperatures best cuts and recipes. What I do have here are a few small tips to help get you started.
If you are familiar with cooking meat you can cook your roast rare. This is when you insert a thermometer and cook the meat until it just reaches cooking temperature. This can be easy to mess up, so if you are not used to cooking a roast you might want to try slow cooking the roast in the oven or using a crock-pot. These roasts are usually a bit cheaper and allow more room for if you mess up and cook it too long.
The best pork roast for slow cooking is a  picnic or shoulder roast. Try Pork loin or tenderloin for cooking rare
The best beef for slow cooking is a baron, blade, even stewing beef anything fatty. Try sirloin for cooking rare.
Quinoa Salad:
2 Cups of Quinoa, 1-2 bagged salads, olive oil, salt, raisins, and any other veggies you would like to add.
Cook quinoa and let cool. Chop veggies (if using) and rinse bagged salad. Mix quinoa with salad, add olive oil and salt to taste.
*You can also add lemon/balsamic vinegar or salad dressing.

RESTAURANT REVIEW
Hello Everyone! It’s me, Mayennaise back at doing my blog again! This time my blog would contain all of my honest review or opinion about the Restaurant that me and my groupmates decided to went. Since, We like Korean food ‘cause we’re a fan of K-Pop, we went to Yakiniku here in Subic Bay. Yakiniku is a Korean & Japanese Restaurant that offers a wide variety of food. Yakiniku ias also famous for its Unli Samgyeopsal that you can avail at a very affordable price! Their Unli Samgyeopsal price ranges from 350 to 450 (350 for pork only, 400 for mix pork and beed, 450 for beef only). We chose the 350 unli promo since we also want to save our money haha. They serve the pork in a big plate, a huge platter of lettuce and cabbage. They also serve free steamed egg and spicy tofu soup. Other inclusions on the food promo is the Unli Sidedishes, the sidedishes are: Fried Chicken, Odeng (FishCake), Creamy Hotdog, Buffalo Chicken, JapChae, Sweet Potato Marble and Kimchi. Other Unlimited foods and drinks are: Fried Rice, Papaya, Watermelon, Buko Pandan Dessert, Iced Tea, Cucumber Lemonade and Lychee Lemonade. So Let’s start the review shall we? First, I really liked the Odeng or the Korean Fish Cake, at first I thought that it smells fishy because it’s a fish ofcourse haha but when I tasted it, I liked it so I went to the Food Section again to get some more of it. I also liked the Sweet Potato Marble because I also really liked Potatoes, the sweetness of the syrup really compliments the boil potato marble and for the people who like sweets but also taking care of their health, this is a must have since the sweetness wasn’t that overwhelming. Another food that I liked is the Buffalo Chicken, the taste of it is sweet and spicy, perfect for those who cannot eat Spicy Foods that much. Other foods tasted so well like the Fried Chicken, Japchae, and the KIMCHI!!! but to be honest, I don’t really liked the Creamy Hotdog since it looks ordinary for me and it doesn’t taste any unique for me since it’s just a hotdog with a creamy sauce on it. makes sense right? And before I forgot, I also didn’t like the Steamed Egg because it smells weird and tasted weird also, I also dont like the Spicy Tofu Soup because I dont like spicy foods, the soup tasted so spicy I couldn’t finish it. So Last but not the least, I liked the Fried Rice because it is so delicious and the taste is very unique, it is buttery and so savory, The Pork Samgyupsal, to be honest It is so delicious but for me the slice of the pork is so thin that when you grill it the meat gets smaller and it is very oily, but even tho it is like that, they also serve fresh fruits so that you can still eat healthy foods. This is my overal review for Yakiniku Restaurant. I hope next time if you crave for Korean Restaurant, go to Yakiniku!

U-Um Hi!! How are you? Could I please get some fae kin meals for fall? I dont like things that are too spicy or too sour, but I love sweets! I’m trying to be more like my kins this fall! Much love sent to you and thanks!
Hiya! I’m good! Well I am now - at least I’m a lot better than I was - I’ve been sick all week thus my lack in responses and posts. I don’t like doing that but here I am! Fae kin meals for the fall! I’m not faekin myself but I imagine hearty meals - stews, soups and roasted apples to name a few things - as something that might be enjoyable. Or.. Maybe I’m just hungry (probably both?) Apples though are really REALLY in season during the fall harvest and I think you might like that! :)
Pumpkin & Beef Stew
Celery Root & Potato Puree
Roasted Mushrooms
Pork w/ Squash & Apples
Baker, Baker
Roasted Squash
Mexican Turkey & Squash Stew
Butternut Squash Posole
Cumin Scented Eggplant
Persimmon Bread
Eggplant & Lamb Pie
Brown Butter Apple Tart
I generally avoided the sour and spicy stuff. Threw a /dash/ of sweets in there, but tried to keep to the fall theme. Fall isn’t really known for its sweets galore, so that may have to be another post if that’s what you were looking for more than actual meals
