Jay and I had talked about it and he tried to calm me down, but he was nervous too I could tell. Everyday that went past I got more and more sick. I couldn’t live without Mouse. As I was distracting myself one night with work I heard a knock at my door. My heart immediately dropped to the floor thinking, this is it. Chapter 11

The rest of the night I couldn’t stop thinking about what Jimmy had said, imaging what us living together would be like, or rather what living with him and his two roommates would be like.

But, that’s all it ever was- just a thought.

Days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months, and thing shad returned to normal. I rarely bumped into Richard in the elevator or in the lobby, and when I did it wasn’t awkward, at all. Probably due to the fact that he had his arm slinked around some other blonde, but it was okay. I was okay. Especially, because Jimmy and I had been spending more time together. Yes, we had drifted back into our old routines, but it was different, because it was more than that. We did everything together. And, before I knew it the hockey season was upon us. Returning to the days of going to games, wearing that bright blue jersey as I cheered from my seat, a few rows back from the glass. But it also meant the return of going weeks of not seeing that dumb smirk on his face, and texting casually trying to fit each other into our busy schedules.

It was easier when we were in college- to see each other. There were classes and opportunities to study to each other and grabbing a casual drink or walking with each other to class. But, now, we were real adults and somewhere along the lines things became more and more complicated.

This year was especially different. I hadn’t gone to one of his preseason games. Which, wasn’t a huge deal considering it was only the preseason, I thought. But, as I looked to the other side of the couch where Jimmy was sitting, or rather sulking I realized just how big of a deal it was.

“You need to stop.” I said, turning to Jimmy, who was ignoring me.

“Are you actually mad?” I asked.

“No.” He mumbled. “I didn’t even play in most of them.”

“Okay, so what’s the deal then?”

“I just like it when you come.” A smile crept onto my lips as he spoke, which he wasted no time in trying to brush off. “Okay, okay settle down.”

This, of course, only made me smile more. It took a second, but things died down and the two of you settled back down returning your attention to the show on the TV.

“You are coming tomorrow though, right?”

“Depends on if your nice to me or not.” I smiled, sticking my tongue out. He rolled his eyes, shaking his head as he turned once more to the TV. A few hours later he left. Really, I kicked him out, insisting that he needed to get some sleep before his game. The first game of the season. It was important, and I prayed the Rangers won.

But, as my eyes jolted awake at the sound of my ringtone. I knew I wouldn’t be getting much sleep tonight. There were two reasons I could be getting a phone calla t this hour, someone died or one of my friends got too drunk and needed me to come pick them up. As I looked at the caller ID and saw Jimmy’s name, I knew it was neither, and with piqued interest I answered the phone.

“Hi.” I breathed, my voice still heavy with sleep.

“What’s up”

“Jimmy, It’s three in the morning. You better now have called me to say what’s up.” I groaned groggily, as my hand slid over my face, rubbing the sleep from my eyes.

“I just wanted to talk to you.”

“At three in the morning?” I asked, trying to hide the annoyance in my voice. These were precious sleep hours and he was disrupting them.

“Yeah, this was a bad idea, I’ll le-“ He started before I interrupted him.

“Well, I’m awake now.” I yawned, stretching my arms over my head as I laid the phone next to me on the pillow. “So what’s keeping you awake?”

The line went silent for a second, before I heard a sigh. “I don’t know.” Jimmy exhaled. He sounded stressed, anxious, restless. “I know we were joking around earlier but you’re coming tomorrow, right?” He asked. “To the game?” He clarified.

“Do you want me there?”

“Of course.” He answered instantly.

“Then I’ll be there.”

“Good.” He said softly. The line went quiet yet again. I was waiting for him to say something, to tell me what was really on his mind. But, still, silence filled the air.

“Jimmy?” I asked.

“Yeah.”

“It’s just like every other game.” I reminded him, knowing that I was opening the door that he wanted to stay close. But, I also knew that that was the reason that he called me.

“I-“ He started. “I just want this season to be better.”

“I know.” That was the hardest thing about being his friend, seeing him lose, especially when all he wanted was to win- not in an overly competitive way, but in a not-letting-everyone-down way. And that was how he felt after last season, and I would give anything not to see him like that again.

“It will be.” I encouraged, trying to leave some positivity in his head.

I sat there staring at the phone, letting my words linger. The conversation was over, both of us knew that, but for some reason I couldn’t hang up the phone. I just wanted to stay there for forever, in the comforting silence his presence brought. And, I could tell he felt the same.

“I should get to sleep.” He said. I could hear the exhaustion in his voice, and I reminded myself that I should probably also be doing the same.

“Yeah.” I breathed.

“Yeah.”

It was silly, I felt like a teenager wrapped up in her first love, unable to hang up the phone, but here I was unable to hang up the phone.

But, eventually I had to, and even though I knew it was only going to be a few hours until I next spoke to him, it was near impossible to get myself to push that little red button.

Hey! I absolutely love the blue line series, I’m obsessed with the actual Rangers because of this and your writing is wonderful. I was wondering if you write something about Robin, Regina and Roland’s relationship with Henry? Or anything about Henry’s life as a member of the Locksley-Mills family.

Of course, anon! So I was going to do some bullet points because I’ve got some thoughts and, like, Roland idolizes Henry when they’re growing up and Henry only ever wears a Jones jersey, but he plays center like Robin and he’s pretty good at hockey, even if he never goes pro and…I digress. I wrote some things instead. Time-wise, Henry’s 18 and getting ready to apply to college and here are some feelings. 

“Hello?”

Emma blinked, twisting her lip between her teeth and she wasn’t entirely prepared for the clipped tone on the other end of the phone.

“Emma,” Regina said, and she sat up straighter. The baby in her arms didn’t entirely appreciate that. “Emma,” Regina repeated. “I can see your name on the caller ID. I know it’s you. Unless it’s Matt and then Matt, I need you to give your mom back your phone. And tell your dad to respond to my e-mails.”

“What e-mails?” Emma asked.

“I knew it was you.”

“Are you negotiating endorsements with my four year old?”

“Certainly not if I can help it.”

Emma laughed under her breath, mumbling a string of nonsense into the tiny bit of dark hair in her arms and she was fairly positive her left leg was going to go numb. They had a game later that night – a few weeks removed from Christmas and Peggy’s first birthday and Emma had spent the majority of the day organizing several Garden of Dreams holiday-themed events, while trying to make sure that the towel on her shoulder stayed on her shoulder.

And reading Henry’s college application essay.

And not crying over Henry’s college application essay.

Which was why she’d twisted herself into an intricate human pretzel and called Regina, several tear-stained pages on her desk.

She’d totally failed on that whole not crying thing.

“Emma,” Regina muttered, and it was clear her patience was wearing thin. “Did you call me to discuss your husband’s endorsement deals? Because there’s a commercial that’s available and they want to use the entire first line and—“

“—No, no, I didn’t,” Emma interrupted. She could almost see Regina’s eyebrows jump, and Peggy made a noise that might have been a gurgle. The towel was working harder than any professional hockey player would that night.

“Then what’s going on?”

Emma grimaced – and she was sure Regina’s eyes widened and her lips probably thinned and they weren’t really the best of friends, but Regina did regularly influence the amount of money coming into the Swan-Jones household and Emma was, at least, ninety-six percent positive half of Matt’s clothes were in Roland’s room and…

“I do have a meeting in ten minutes,” Regina said sharply, and Emma clicked her teeth in frustration. “So unless someone is dying or there’s a career-ending injury I need to be aware of, then…”

“Oh my God, Gina, it’s nothing like that.”

Emma assumed she did something ridiculous with her face again. Probably glared at open air. And negotiated that commercial deal. Emma would have to mention that to Killian.

He was absolutely ignoring his e-mail.

“Then what’s going on?” Regina asked, voice not quite as sharp and, maybe, a little cautious, and Emma tried to take a deep breath through her nose.

Peggy made that noise again.

“Henry gave me his college application essay,” Emma said, rushing over the words and there were tears in her eyes again. What a goddamn disaster. She hoped they won later.

“Oh.”

Emma waited for the rest of it – the questions or comments or pointed opinions – but there was just silence. Or, relative silence. Peggy gurgled.

“Regina,” Emma mumbled, met with a sound that might have been a grunt or possibly a huff and she was going to have to make a list of all the things she had to tell Killian about this conversation.

“Still here,” she whispered. She sounded disappointed. “Were you just calling to tell me?”

“No, no, this is…I promise it’s good.”

More silence.

More gurgling.

“I’m serious,” Emma added, digging her heels into her office carpet and she heard the ding of Regina’s computer from several blocks downtown.

“Did you e-mail me this?”

“Yes.”

“Why? If Henry gave it to you then—“

“Oh my God, Regina, just read it. I swear this is a good thing.”

Regina hummed in disbelief, and there was the pointed opinion Emma had been waiting for. It took, by her count, forty-eight and a half seconds for Regina’s breath to audibly catch and mumble a quiet oh under her breath and she must have been some kind of speed reader.

And then Regina sniffled.

That was suddenly point number one on the list of things Emma had to tell Killian. Before the game.

“Henry wrote this?” Regina asked softly, and Emma nodded, well aware that the only person who could see her was a nearly-one-year-old baby who was already wearing a Jones jersey and yanking on a Stanley Cup ring with a surprising amount of strength.

“That’s why I figured you should read it.”

“Right, right, right, that’s um…thank you.”

Emma hummed, eyes flitting back to the sheets she’d printed out hours before. He was going to send it half a dozen schools – something about a guidance counselor’s advice and what was supposed to happen and Emma didn’t have much to add, just promised she’d read it and then she cried when she read it and, well, now she was pretty positive Regina was crying too.

When I was five years old, the foster home I was living in lost its cable subscription. I don’t know why. I’m not even sure the people running the house knew why, but it happened and there was no more Disney channel and no more Nickelodeon and the only thing to watch on a Sunday afternoon were over the air channels.

And the only thing on over the air channels on a Sunday afternoon was hockey.

New York Rangers hockey.

I should probably thank whoever forgot to pay that cable bill because that game changed my life.

I watched the game. I had no idea what was going on. It didn’t matter. I watched, and ignored the other kids and how much they wanted to watch Power Rangers instead, and when I turned ten I got my first Killian Jones jersey.

I never thought much about having a family.

Those kinds of thoughts were dangerous in foster homes – places where kids weren’t wanted or needed or, sometimes, even remembered. So I pushed those wants and those hopes into the back corner of my mind and figured if the Rangers could, eventually, win a Stanley Cup it was, basically, the same thing.

But then something happened.

A few weeks before I turned twelve, a call came to the house. There was an event. At Madison Square Garden. And I was going.

I cried.

The kids made fun of me, but they always made fun of how loudly I cheered during games, so it wasn’t much different. I went to the Garden and a woman named Emma Swan changed my life. She introduced me to Killian Jones and Killian Jones introduced me to the entire New York Rangers roster and, even though I didn’t know it at the time, I met my family that day.

I still didn’t think about it much, couldn’t let myself hope or dream, but the Rangers kept winning games and I kept watching and suddenly I wasn’t just cheering for hockey, I was part of hockey and part of a team and I never left.

Emma Swan changed my life. Killian Jones changed my life. But my parents saved my life.

Robin Locksley currently owns the Rangers all-time face-off win record. Regina Mills-Locksley currently dictates the contracts of nearly a dozen NHL stars and will, probably, get the entire Rangers first line another commercial deal by the time you read this essay.

But, more than that, Robin and Regina took me into their home and made sure I stayed. They gave me a room. They bought me team-march. They didn’t mind when I kept wearing that ratty Jones jersey for years.

They loved me.

Love me. Present tense.

I’m lucky. Incredibly so. Unbelievably so. The New York Rangers saved the foster home I grew up in; made sure the other kids who weren’t as lucky wouldn’t get shipped around the country or away from their friends when budget cuts threaten to do just that. The New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup. Twice. And I was there. Twice.

I’m lucky, but more than that I’m happy - and it wouldn’t have been possible without my mom or my dad or my brother or that entire hockey team that adopted me. That loves me. And I love ‘em right back.

That’d probably get me made fun of in the house again, but I’ll keep cheering anyway and keep believing and the Rangers are going to win another Cup.

There was more – more words and more feelings and Emma couldn’t read it again, because she really did have to get ready for the game, but Regina was silent again on the other end.

“If I ask if you’re still here are you going to retract Killian’s commercial offer?” Emma asked, not entirely expecting Regina’s quiet laugh.

“No, he’s the focus of the whole goddamn thing. Don’t tell Scarlet that.”

“I’m totally going to tell Scarlet that.”

“Ah, well, that might be good for his ego.” Emma hummed, waiting for the rest of it and determined not to ask anything else, and she was almost hopeful Peggy had fallen asleep. She had a few assumptions though. And maybe a bit of hope. “That’s the first time he’s used those words,” Regina said, answering the question Emma hadn’t asked. “I know you were wondering, so, there.”

“So there?”

“Yes, exactly that.”

Emma scoffed, Regina exhaling like it was the first time she’d ever done anything like that. “You guys haven’t…”

“It wasn’t…” Regina, started, cutting herself off quickly, and they seriously had to win. Maybe that should have been number one on the list of things to tell Killian. “It was just a label and words and letters and I’ve…Robin and I are Henry’s parents. We have been since we signed those papers and I just…”

She sniffled again, and this whole conversation was a fantastic exercise in patience and emotion. “I always kind of wondered how it’d sound though,” she whispered.

“Pretty damn good,” Emma said.

“Yeah, yeah, it does.”

“He’s going to get accepted to every single college he applies to so you should really work on that commercial thing for the money or whatever.”

“Those are absolutely the technical terms,” Regina laughed, any tension in her voice disappearing. “Tell your husband to answer my e-mails.”

“Tell your kid he made me cry. More than one.”

“Deal.”

The Rangers won. And Robin scored. And there was probably some kind of fate involved in that, but this was the kind of team that won Stanley Cups and gold medals and team wasn’t really the right word anyway because it was a family and that was stupid emotional.

And years later, after more stories and that guaranteed championship, Henry asked Ella to marry him, bent on one knee with that family he’d never allowed himself to hope for around him and a ring pinched in between his fingers.

“It’s my mom’s,” he said, and Regina’s gaze flitted towards Emma’s, tears in her eyes and a smile on her face and Henry’s whole life changed all over again.

11 - Trimberly?

(funny enough, I sent this same exact combo to Trimberghly! Also I don’t know wtf happened because I was aiming for

“Alright, explosion and balls back! How you like me now?”

“Yeah yeah, lucky shot. I’d like to see you guys do that again.”

Trini never used to be big on house parties. For one, people never invited her thanks to her exchange student anonymity, but secondly she just didn’t see the point. They often consist of drunk reckless kids acting like idiots talking shallowly to strangers because they both know that neither will remember in the morning. Houses get stuffy and packed to the brim with bodies, resulting in uncomfortably overheated conditions and general unpleasantries all around.

Drinks get spilled, outfits get dirtied, and there’s always at least one mysterious stain that lingers by the end of the night, but party goers endure it all for various personal reasons. Sometimes to unwind from the stress of the week by letting loose and having fun, but more commonly it was an opportunity to hook up. 

It was a scene that Trini never used to frequent.

Until Kimberly happened.

Kimberly loves parties. She loves the atmosphere, the raw energy, and overall positive vibes of people enjoying themselves, and ever since Kimberly became Trini’s best friend, Trini’s come to love them too in her own weird way. 

That’s not to say that she actively goes out every weekend or partakes in Thirsty Thursdays like so many other teens do - hell, everyone needs a break from the action. Too much partying can tire a person out, both physically and mentally, and since Trini had to work herself up to even start going out to these gatherings in the first place, she needs extra time to recover in her own personal space.

Except she’s also a goddamn sucker when it comes to Kimberly Ann Hart and she can never say no, so when that beautiful face illuminates on the caller ID of Trini’s cellphone, she’s already prepping an appropriate outfit for the night. 

Tonight is a party like any other night - at least that’s what Trini thought before any of the crazy events unfolded.

She’s partnered up with Kimberly playing beer pong against Zack and Tommy who both claim to be the undisputed kings of the table. Seeing as how they defeated a majority of the people there already it would seem to be true, however Kimberly had dragged Trini by the arm and demanded that they “put them in their place” and thus began the war.

So here they are now, one cup left on each side and a burning desire to dethrone the boys. 

Trini’s face feels hot as hell because she’s already taken a few shots of who knows what when she entered the house. Zack had practically shoved the mystery drinks into her’s and Kimberly’s faces demanding that it was the entrance fee to Jason’s awesome “my-dad-is-out-of-the-state-for-the-weekend” party. 

They had clinked their shot glasses and downed them in one go, the liquid burning all the way down and settling in a pool of warmth at the pit of her stomach. It was either cheap vodka or that bottom shelf tequila you find in a plastic bottle, but regardless it was one hell of a way to start their night, that’s for sure.

Tongue sticking out and eyes squinting in concentration, Kimberly chucks her ping pong ball with all the accuracy of a blind senior citizen and it hits Tommy square in the face.

Laughter spills from Tommy’s mouth as he rubs his nose amusingly. “Good aim there, Hart. Keep it up!”

“Shut your face kermit the frog, I kn-know, I know how to. I know how to throw.” The words stumble out ungracefully as Kimberly’s knuckles whiten from gripping the table to keep the world from spinning out of control. She points a finger at him and grins suggestively. “I can– I know how to handle balls–”

“Oookay Kim, we don’t doubt that.” Trini’s barely containing her laughter as she pulls the taller intoxicated girl into a tight hug in order to cover her mouth with one hand and prevent any more inappropriate jokes from escaping. 

She squirms beneath Trini’s vice-like grip, words muffled beneath the palm of her hand, and every struggle brings more and more giggles out of the both of them. Trini’s heart is beating wildly out of control but she blames it on the alcohol. It’s not the fact that her skin is touching Kimberly’s because they’re both wearing tank tops, and it’s definitely not the fact that she’s trying her damndest to suppress the more-than-platonic feelings she carries for her best friend.

Keep it together Trini.

She reminds herself to not get too comfortable or let her guard down because who knows what she might say or do, but a few shots in with a couple beers to boot is making it severely harder to focus. 

“Any day now ladies!” 

Zack’s voice cuts through the ambient noise and after Kimberly calms down, Trini lowers her hand and readies her own ping pong ball. 

She’s staring at the cup intently, almost as if suffering from tunnel vision, but she can’t seem to see straight. Her eyes blink rapidly over and over and over and it’s like the cup is sliding around, mocking her with its fickle nature. 

“What’s the matter short stack?” Tommy taunts from the other end of the table. “Need a booster seat to see the cup?”

The boys break out into another fit of hysterics and a low growl rumbles from deep within Trini’s throat. She’s one second away from just throwing the ball and intentionally pegging the dude in the eye when Kimberly leans in close and whispers for only Trini to hear.

“Y’know,” she starts quietly while wiggling her fingers in front of Trini’s face, “’s not just balls I can handle; you can ask Amanda.”

Kimberly giggles like it’s not even a big deal as if she didn’t just reveal a very crucial and life-changing piece of information to Trini. She’s grinning like an idiot but Trini’s eyes widen like she’s seen a ghost and her mouth hangs agape in shock.  

“Y-you’re - you’re…?” 

“Yyyyep,” she draws out the word and pops the “P” at the end for added dramatic effect.

“Why haven’t you told me?!” 

“You never asked.”

Oh for fuck’s sake Trini screams in her head. That’s the oldest line in the damn book and she’s pulling it now? On her? With that topic?

“I’m literally getting sober over here.” Zack flicks a Cheeto at Trini’s face and she nearly scowls at him in a fit of rage for unwittingly interrupting their moment. 

She throws the ping pong ball like a laser and to everyone’s surprise, it actually sinks directly into the cup with a satisfying plunk. Both boys’ expressions mutate into a comical mixture of mortification and disbelief, but the proof is hard to deny. 

“Rebuttal!” Tommy shouts in denial but both he and Zack miss their final throws and Kimberly bursts into cheers.

She engulfs Trini with her arms, jumping up and down in an exuberant, crushing hug before planting a kiss on her cheek, clearly swept up with victorious elation.

“We won!”

Trini’s skin burns with the leftover impression of Kimberly’s lips and for once she’s glad that everyone’s too drunk to be aware of anything, because her face is as red as the cups surrounding them and she’s shaking from head to toe. 

“No, but really,” Kimberly mumbles in Trini’s ear, her breath tickling her skin and sending electric shivers down her spine, “you should ask Amanda because this one time when we were in a supply closet near the football field, which you know it’s like, really, really cramped in there, but we made it work and like this spider got all up in our business and, and–”

“I’m gonna stop you right there, Princess.” Trini can’t decide whether she’s jealous or amused, but either way she really doesn’t want to hear the end of that story - or any stories for that matter involving her and Amanda.

Okay yeah, definitely jealous.

“Let’s get you some water, yeah?” She starts towards the kitchen, pushing past the throng of strangers and vague acquaintances alike, when she feels Kimberly’s fingers lace in her own causing Trini’s pulse to race like stampeding wildebeests. 

They’re holding hands. 

It’s such a childish action to most, but it has always meant so much more to Trini. Growing up and being so conscious of her actions around other girls made her put that much more emphasis on the simple gesture of friendship because to her, it didn’t always mean just that.

So this is just like in Trini’s dreams except with a lot more sweaty strangers and oppressive, muggy heat and too much alcohol coursing through their bodies. 

Alright, so maybe not exactly like Trini’s dreams, but eh, close enough.

No, no, no, this is stupid, Trini tells herself as they weave in between bodies occupying the hallways, we’re just holding hands. This may not mean a thing to her.

Or it could mean a thing.

Trini doesn’t want to get her hopes up.

They reach the fridge and she ignores the “DO NOT OPEN” sign, yanking on the handle and snagging a bottle of water from the side panel. The sign is mainly for guests, but all the Rangers’ houses are like their second - or fifth - home away from home so she knows Jason won’t mind.

The two of them snake their way back to the living room and spot an empty La-Z-Boy armchair. It’s upholstered with a worn brown textile fabric and even though it’s large, it’s not big enough for the both of them, except Kimberly doesn’t seem to mind. She bolts ahead of Trini and ends up dragging her to the chair before sinking down onto the padded seat and yanking Trini down onto her lap.

Seriously, thank god everyone is too drunk, because Trini’s straddling Kimberly’s waist and the chair is rocking back and forth like a fucking kiddy ride, but they’re too wrapped up in the moment to care. Her arms are linked around the small of Trini’s back and there’s a lopsided grin painted on her face as if they’re the only ones in the room.

“You have beautiful eyes,” she says and Trini’s heart nearly goes into cardiac arrest. “Like, insanely beautiful. Has anyone told you that? Because I think you need to hear it. All the time. Like right now. Because I think they’re beautiful.”

Trini chokes out a chuckle and thinks that she’s the one who needs the water now, but she maintains eye contact with Kimberly and steadily starts to gravitate towards her as if an unseen force is pulling her in. 

“You’re one to talk, Princess.” 

“Me? Naw, no way,” she shakes her head in disagreement, “I think brown eyes are boring.”

“Says you,” Trini retorts as Kimberly’s face grows closer and closer. “I think they’re complex and rich and it’s only once you get near can you see the elegance of their intricacies.”

“And I think you’re full of shit. Everybody loves blue eyes.”

“Not me,” Trini breathes, “I think brown eyes are pretty. In fact, I love yours the best.”

The corners of Kimberly’s lips twitch and her smile falters ever so slightly. It’s a minute shift that Trini catches because she knows all of her expressions by heart - she’s studied them in her dreams and witnessed them in action and she knows when the chip in Kimberly’s facade cracks open just a little bit more.

“I think you should be my girlfriend.”

The words slip out of Kimberly’s mouth without hesitation and Trini wonders how long she’s wanted to say that, because Trini knows how long she’s been wanting to do this.

She closes the gap in an instant and crushes Kimberly’s lips with her own. It’s heated and fast and just a little bit sloppy, but it’s also pure and sincere and filled with the unrestrained emotions overflowing between them. It’s everything Trini’s wanted for longer than she can remember and god does it feel so good. 

Kimberly’s pulling her in closer until their bodies are practically beating as one in a single unified symphony of desire and Trini can’t even breathe anymore. She inhales and it’s nothing but Kimberly Kimberly Kimberly.

The way her tongue drags across her lower lip before biting down and tugging lightly drives Trini insane because it’s coupled with her tiny whimpers that turn into breathy moans and the auditory overload becomes almost too much to bear. 

Trini can feel the blood pounding in her ears and she can’t tell if it’s from the alcohol or not, but then she remembers oh yeah, alcohol.

It takes all of her willpower to withdraw because this is literally one part of many of her dreams, but this isn’t right - they can’t be doing this, not under these circumstances. 

Her lips leave Kimberly’s, their chests heaving in and out feverishly, desperate for air after having breathed in nothing but each other. Trini rests her forehead against Kimberly’s because she still doesn’t want the dream to end, but she has to know for sure.

“Promise me we’ll talk about this tomorrow.”

Kimberly’s head nods up and down, swallowing thickly in the process. “Y-yeah. Promise.”

The next morning, Jason’s house looks like Rita’s attack 2.0, with bottles and cups littering the counters and floors and various party snacks scattered about in crushed piles like shattered glass. 

Jason and Billy are lying diagonally on top of the covers of his bed, sleeping soundly after the night of outrageous party games. 

Zack is hanging off of a couch, one arm dragging on the floor along with one of his legs as light snores drift peacefully from his nose.

Tommy’s sprawled on the carpet with a bunch of dicks drawn all over him. Nobody knows when the pen came out, but after he knocked out around 2 a.m. he became fair game for the rest of the Rangers to go to town on. There’s one with a cape, flying across his leg like a superhero. Billy’s happy with how it turned out, but if anyone asks, it was all Jason’s doing.

With the chair in recliner mode, the girls had ended up falling asleep in each other’s arms, comfortable and warm in their cozy embrace. The sun peeks in through the blinds and rouses Trini from her slumber first, her brow scrunching before her eyes slowly part open from the uninvited morning light.

Her head shifts and she studies Kimberly’s face. She takes in every detail. From the curve of her jaw to the outline of her nose down to the tiny mole near her lips. Everything is uniquely her and the vision of her beauty is forever burned in Trini’s mind like a work of art.

She doesn’t want this moment to end, but the sun reaches her face and Kimberly drowsily stirs. Groaning in protest, she curls deeper into Trini’s body and Trini can’t help but smile.

“Good morning, Sleeping Beauty. How you feeling?”

“Your voice is too loud and my head hurts like hell.”

“Well, you did have one crazy night after all.”

Kimberly rolls back over and gazes up at Trini. With the sunlight dancing in her eyes like a kaleidoscope of shifting shades of brown, Kimberly looks nothing short of stunning, but there’s more beyond the infinite details on the mere surface. Her expression is pensive and reserved, but she doesn’t look away.

“I remember what I said last night.”

Trini gulps. “…And?”

This is it.

This is where she gets rejected by her friend, where she’s told to her face that it was just a fun night but nothing more and that it was all just the alcohol doing the talking. That’s just one of the scenarios that sometimes plays out in one of her nightmares. Those are always the worst ones that leave her waking up in a cold sweat and with fear in her heart.

Except this isn’t a nightmare - it’s real life - or at least Trini tells herself that because Kimberly’s kissing her again and it feels absolutely surreal.

I’m kissing Kimberly Hart. I’m not dreaming.

If it’s not a dream then surely she’s died and gone to heaven. Her lips are even softer than she remembers - how is that possible? - and it leaves Trini wanting more when Kimberly pauses momentarily.

“That answer it for you?”

The corners of Trini’s mouth tug up into a grin and she shrugs. “I dunno, wasn’t really clear. I think you should do it again.”

Kimberly’s sweet laughter rings in the air before their lips find each other once more in a genuine kiss that leaves Trini breathless.

The sun was shining, there wasn’t any clouds covering the star. Birds tweeted to one another and squirrels scurried across the grass and into the trees. You leaned against the Impala with Dean, your arms were crossed and Dean’s hands were in his jean pockets. The service for the funeral ended a few days ago, but Sam wanted to say one last goodbye. He looks down at the gravestone, clutching the flowers in his hands before he took a deep, shuddering breath before he finally began to say something. “I, uh…” Sam let out a laugh despite the situation he was in, he was standing at his girlfriend's grave and somehow he found dark humor in it. The grave should’ve been his, he so badly wanted to switch places with her, she didn’t deserve to get dragged into this mess. Sam looks at the picture of her set into the gravestone, he quickly looked away and choked back a sob that would’ve escaped his mouth if he didn’t stop it. “Jess...oh God…” He said, while taking a step forward. He took a deep breath and kneeled. “I should have protected you. I should have told you the truth.” He leaned the flowers against the cross on the headstone, suddenly an arm shoots up from the grave and wraps a hand around Sam’s wrist. *** “Sam?” You say, watching as his eyelids twitch before he takes a deep breath and his eyes snap open. You frown at him as he looked around quickly before relaxing a bit in the seat. “You okay?” Dean asks, glancing at his brother in concern before returning to the the road. Sam glances at him then you before he looks out the passenger window. “Yeah, I’m fine.” He said, Dean nods while the frown on your face stays. You could tell just by one look at the younger brother that he was indeed not fine. You lean back against the seat and scoff at the man’s answer. “You had another nightmare.” You say, he’s been having them since the night Jessica died. Sam doesn’t say anything, he just continues to stare out the window at the passing scenery. “You wanna drive for a while?” Dean asks, glancing over at his brother. Sam laughs at his brother’s question. “Dean, your whole life you never once asked me that.” He replies. You roll your eyes and lean over the front seat to join the conversation face to face. “So?” You say, catching the young brother’s attention. “Take the opportunity, Dean has never offered to me to drive and I’ve been on many hunting trips with him, he refuses to let me take the wheel.” “Look, guys, I know you're worried about me.” Sam says, turning his body to look at the two of you. “I get it, and thank you, but I'm perfectly okay.” You roll your eyes and lean back against the seat while Dean hums a reply. “Sammy” You say, he turned back into the proper seating position and grabs the map out of the glove box. “Just so you know...Dean and I are here if you need to talk.” He didn’t reply but instead asked a question. “Where are we?” “We are just outside of Grand Junction.” Dean replies, staring out at the road. Sam folds the map. “You know what?” Sam says, you look away from the window and to the side of his face. “Maybe we shouldn't have left Stanford so soon.” You give him a pitying look. “Sam, sweetie…” You trail off. “We dug around there for a week. We came up with nothing. If you wanna find the thing that killed Jessica—” Dean says but get’s cut off by his brother. “We gotta find Dad first.” Sam finishes his brother’s sentence as he put away the map. “Dad disappearing and this thing showing up again after twenty years, it's no coincidence.” Dean says, you nod your head in agreement. “John” You say “he’ll have answers. He'll know what to do.” You reassure the young Winchester with a smile. “It's weird.” Sam says, shaking his head slightly. “These coordinates he left us...This Blackwater Ridge..” “What about it?” His brother asked, you look at Sam as you remembered the map you looked at earlier. “Trees.” You say, catching the brother’s attention. Dean raises an eyebrow at your unfinished statement. “There’s nothing there, just...woods….So, why is your dad sending us to the middle of nowhere?” You look out the window as you passed a National Forest sign. Dean and Sam exchange a curious look for what’s to come. *** You exit the Impala and stretch from sitting too long in a small area, Dean watches you as your shirt raised slightly above your waist showing off some of your stomach until your arms lowered to your sides. He exited the car after his brother and locked it behind him. The three of you walk inside the Rangers Station, it was a small building. Sam and you eyed the map and took in much detail as you could while Dean stared at a picture of a bear. “It's cut off by these canyons here, rough terrain, dense forest, abandoned silver and gold mines all over the place.” Sam comments on the map, you nod before turning around at Dean’s voice. “Dude, check out the size of this freaking bear.” Sam and you walk to Dean and stare at the photo. It was a pretty good sized bear. “And a dozen or more grizzlies in the area. It's no nature hike, that's for sure.” Sam says, you tore your eyes away from the picture at the sound of an unknown male’s voice. “You boys aren't planning on going out near Blackwater Ridge by any chance?” His eyes land on you, hidden between the two men that are like giants compared to your height. “And ladies.” he adds before his eyes return to the two men. “Oh, no, sir” Sam says “we're environmental study majors from UC Boulder, just working on a paper.” You nod along to the fabricated story with a smile on your face. Sam laughs a little and Dean raises his fist with a grin to make it seem more believable. “Recycle, man.” Dean says, the Ranger frowns and narrows his eyes at the three of you. “Bull.” He says, your smile turned into a frown at his statement while Sam’s eyes flick to you and Dean before his eyes return to the man before him. “You're friends with that Haley girl, right?” You laugh like he actually figured out why the three of you were here for. “Yeah” You give the man a smile as your eyes fall to his name tag before you looked at the man in the eyes. “Ranger Wilkinson.” “Well I will tell you exactly what we told her. Her brother filled out a backcountry permit saying he wouldn't be back from Blackwater until the twenty-fourth, so it's not exactly a missing persons now, is it?” You and Dean shake your heads. “You tell that girl to quit worrying, I'm sure her brother's just fine.” “We will. Well that Haley girl's quite a pistol, huh?” Dean asks the man, a smile on his face like he’s talking to an old friend. “That is putting it mildly.” “Actually you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit. You know, so she could see her brother's return date.” The Ranger eyes the three of you with a suspicious gaze before you gave the man a reassuring smile. “We don’t want our friend worrying.” You say. *** Dean held the copy of the receipt with the family's address while laughing, you roll your eyes as the three of you walked towards the Impala. “What, are you cruising for a hookup or something?” Sam asks his brother, you frown at his question. “What do you mean?” You ask in confusion. “The coordinates point to Blackwater Ridge, so what are we waiting for? Let's just go find Dad. I mean, why even talk to this girl?” You look at Dean, he stood next to you. His hand hovering with the keys about to unlock the car. “I don't know, maybe we should know what we're walking into before we actually walk into it?” Dean replies before furrowing his eyebrows. “Since when are you all shoot first ask questions later, anyway?” “Since now.” Sam replies as he enters the car and shuts the door behind him. You look at Dean with raised eyebrows before the two of you enter the car. *** The boys and you stood before the Collins house, Dean rung the doorbell and not long after that a girl opened the door. “You must be Haley Collins. I'm Dean, this is Sam, and this is Y/n, we're, ah, we're rangers with the Park Service. Ranger Wilkinson sent us over. He wanted us to ask a few questions about your brother Tommy.” The girl looked at the three of you with hesitance. “Lemme see some ID.” She says, Dean pulls out an ID and holds it against the screen door. She looks at it and back at Dean who had a smile on his face. Haley opened the door. “Come on in.” She says and opened the door wider for the three of you. You gave her a smile as you passed her. “Thanks.” Dean said stopping at her question. “That yours?” You turn around and look them. “Yeah.” Dean replies, You look out the door to the Impala, a smile spreads across your face at the sight of her. “Nice car.” She comments before turning around and leading the three of you to a kitchen. A boy sat at the table with a laptop in front of him. “So” Sam starts, turning to face Haley. “if Tommy's not due back for a while, how do you know something's wrong?” You look at the female as she walks back into the room and places a bowl on the table. “He checks in every day by cell. He emails, photos, stupid little videos—we haven't heard anything in over three days now.” “Well, maybe he can't get cell reception.” Sam offered an excuse. “He's got a satellite phone, too.” “Could it be he's just having fun and forgot to check in?” Dean asked, the boy at the table shook his head. “He wouldn't do that.” He said, you and Dean eyed the boy before you looked back at Haley. “Our parents are gone. It's just my two brothers and me. We all keep pretty close tabs on each other.” Haley said, she crossed her arms and looked at the three of you. “Hey, so can I see the pictures he sent you?” You ask, Haley nods and she walks over to the laptop and pulled up a few images. “That’s Tommy.” She says, as Sam takes a look himself. Haley clicked a couple of times before another picture comes up and then the still frame opening the video. “Hey Haley, day six, we're still out near Blackwater Ridge. We're fine, keeping safe, so don't worry, okay? Talk to you tomorrow.” Tommy says before it ended. You narrow your eyes at the flicker of a shadow in the background. “Well, we'll find your brother. We're heading out to Blackwater Ridge first thing.” Dean says, Haley looks at him and crosses her arms over her chest. “Then maybe I'll see you there. Look, I can't sit around here anymore. So I hired a guy. I'm heading out in the morning, and I'm gonna find Tommy myself.” She say’s, you turn around to look at her before your eyes landed on Dean. “I think I know how you feel.” Dean says as Sam looks at Haley. “Hey, do you mind forwarding these to me?” Sam asks, Haley shrugs. “Sure.” *** Later that night, the three of you were in a bar, sitting at a table. You watched a crowd of people swarm around a pool table and begin to play a game. Men cheered near the tv’s above the counter at the bar, it was some football game going on. “So, Blackwater Ridge doesn't get a lot of traffic. Local campers, mostly. But still, this past April, two hikers went missing out there. They were never found.” Sam says, you look over at the man as he opened up John’s journal. “Any before that?” Dean asks, he watches as a waiter carrying a tray walks by. He turns slightly in his seat to check out her body. You roll your eyes and lightly punch his shoulder to catch his attention. Sam hands a newspaper article to his brother. “Yeah, in 1982, eight different people all vanished in the same year. Authorities said it was a grizzly attack.” You already read the article and knew everything about it. Eight hikers vanish in Lost Creek Area, the same area Tommy was camping at with his friends. Sam pulls out his laptop from the bag hanging on the back of his chair. “And again in 1959 and again before that in 1936.” He opens the computer and turns it towards Dean to show him a video. You were the one to edit the video to slow it down. “Every twenty-three years, just like clockwork. Okay. Watch this. Here's a clincher. I downloaded that guy Tommy's video to the laptop. Check this out.” He clicks the arrow button to show each frame before a shadow crosses the screen. “Do it again.” Dean said, leaning forward in his seat. His brother repeats his actions. “That's three frames. That's a fraction of a second. Whatever that thing is, it can move.” You say, leaning back in your seat. You look at the older brother as he hits Sam on the shoulder causing him to look up from the laptop. “Told you something weird was going on.” Dean said with a grin on his face, you roll your eyes. “Yeah, totally.” You say, Sam closes the laptop and puts it back into his bag. “I got one more thing.” Sam said, making the two of you look at the young man.  You raise an eyebrow. “In 'fifty-nine one camper survived this supposed grizzly attack. Just a kid. Barely crawled out of the woods alive.” He said, you bite your cheek as you took this information in. “So, is there a name?” You ask Sam, he looks at you and nods. *** “Look, ranger, I don't know why you're asking me about this. It's public record. I was a kid. My parents got mauled by a—” Mr. Shaw starts but gets cut off by Sam. “Grizzly? That's what attacked them?” The old man takes a puff of his cigarette before pulling it out of his mouth and nodded. “The other people that went missing that year, those bear attacks too?” You ask “What about all the people that went missing this year? Same thing? We knew what we were dealing with, we might be able to stop it.” You say, Mr. Shaw looks between the three of you and gently shakes his head. “I seriously doubt that. Anyways, I don't see what difference it would make.” He says while sitting down. “You wouldn't believe me. Nobody ever did.” Sam sat down across from the old man, and very gently he asks “Mr. Shaw, what did you see?” The old man looks away from Sam. “Nothing. It moved too fast to see. It hid too well. I heard it, though. A roar. Like...no man or animal I ever heard.” You press your lips together. “It came at night?” You ask, sitting down on the couch next to Dean. Mr. Shaw nods. “Got inside your tent?” “It got inside our cabin. I was sleeping in front of the fireplace when it came in. It didn't smash a window or break the door. It unlocked it. Do you know of a bear that could do something like that? I didn't even wake up till I heard my parents screaming.” “It killed them?” Sam asks. “Dragged them off into the night.” Mr. Shaw says and leaned forward while shaking his head. “Why it left me alive...been asking myself that ever since.” He paused, a bit hesitantly he reached to the collar of his shirt and pulled it down. ‘Did leave me this, though.” You eyed the gruesome scars on his skin, three long claw marks stretched across his chest. “There's something evil in those woods. It was some sort of a demon.” You looked at the boys, whatever was in those woods was something that wanted this man to tell others that it was not a force to be reckoned with. *** Dean and Sam walked ahead of you through the length of the corridor to the motel room. You trailed behind them, listening to their conversation. “Spirits and demons don't have to unlock doors. If they want inside, they just go through the walls.” Dean says. “So it's probably something else, something corporeal.” “Corporeal? Excuse me, professor.” You roll your eyes at Dean’s comment. What an ass. “Shut up. So what do you think?” Sam replied, irritation clear in his voice. “The claws, the speed that it moves...could be a skinwalker, maybe a black dog. Whatever we're talking about, we're talking about a creature, and it's corporeal. Which means we can kill it.” You say, the boy’s turn around to look at you, due to being so deep into their conversation they forgot about you. A smile spread across your face. “Hello boys, your one and only is still here.” *** Dean opens the trunk of the Impala, then the weapons trunk before propping it open with a shotgun, you lean against the side of the car as Sam looks into the trunk. “We cannot let that Haley girl go out there.” Sam said stating the obvious, you wrap your arms around yourself to keep warm from the November breeze. “Oh yeah? What are we gonna tell her? That she can't go into the woods because of a big scary monster?” Dean replies, he moves around a few weapons before looking at Sam when he answered. “Yeah.” “Her brother's missing, Sam. She's not gonna just sit this out. Now we go with her, we protect her, and we keep our eyes peeled for our fuzzy predator friend.” Dean picks up a duffel bag, you grab your bag. “Finding Dad's not enough?” Sam asks while slamming the weapon’s trunk closed and then the car’s. “Now we gotta babysit too?” Dean stares at Sam, not saying anything. You pressed your lips together. Sam was angry, he didn’t know how to deal with Jessica’s death and he was taking it out on his brother by lashing out at him. “What?” You glare at Dean, warning him to not say anything to make Sam more angry. “Nothing.” Dean replies before tossing the duffle bag to him and walking towards the motel. Sam and you stare at the older brother’s back until he disappears through the door. You look at Sam and gave him a soft smile, he needed some reassurance that somebody was there for him. “Deep breaths, Sam.” You say, pulling your bag strap over your shoulder. “I’m here if you need to talk about anything.” “There’s nothing to talk about.” He said, you stare at him, the smile never leaving your face. You reach out and pat his back before he took a step away. He didn't need any contact right now, he just wanted to be alone and you understood that. You were the same for the first few months after your parents died. “I’ll be here.” You say to him before walking away and heading to your motel room next to the brothers.

power rangers spoilers under the cut

like.. a few major ones. theyre detailed, i tried to list out possible trigger warnings (bolded) but if you need a specific one message me! proceed with caution :)

it was honestly really funny, there was a lot of wit and sarcasm in many of the jokes and i was constantly laughing. and while there was a more serious vibe with the movie than with what i remember of the show, there were quite a few lighthearted, very sweet moments that made the theater ‘aww’ (the scenes of jake and his mom and how he cared for her were some of the sweetest they made my heart hurt)

some of the dialogue wasnt that great, there were some plot holes that i noticed throughout the movie, and some of the acting wasnt as good as it couldve been, but it was a good movie, it was a good adaptation of the show and a good start to what im guessing is a series? there’s a credit scene where they kinda introduce the green ranger (which the girl next to me was freaking out about it was great)  

the evil witch lady was kinda underwhelming? i wasnt really scared of her, i could tell that she would fuck shit up if she wasnt stopped but the portrayal wasnt really what i expected it to be, which is fine things dont have to be perfect all around, but i hope they get some better, more experienced actors to play the villains next time. the witch’s monster that she creates was kinda scary, there were some intense scenes with the monster and the five that racked up my anxiety lol

i wasnt a devout show watcher, ive seen a few episodes here and there as a kid, but some people have been commenting on the tv/movie references and inside jokes that were in this movie. there were some nostalgic scenes that i remember, “its morphin time!” and the “go go power rangers!” song definitely made me feel like a giddy little kid. this was a revamp but they didnt forget their origin story, they didnt forget where they came from lol

billy (blue) fucking stole the show. he was absolutely amazing. im not autistic, but i follow a few people who are and who talk about it concerning themselves and characters they see as being on the spectrum. so i noticed a few aspects of billy’s character which coincided with what ive read like when jason scott (red) touched him with no warning or consent he asks him to stop, he is constantly building things his whole basement/room is covered in tools and equipment and a big work table, which is what came to my mind as his special interest

when he got excited there was continuity of him clapping his hands and sort of bouncing on his feet, and the most blatant aspect of all; billy confessed to jason that he was on the spectrum, jason didnt seem to understand and made a little joke, and billy went on to say that his brain worked differently than jason’s, that he couldnt understand sarcasm or some humor but that he remembered everything, like /everything/. in the movie he was by far the best developed character in my opinion, it felt like RJ Cyler did a lot of research and listening to build his character to be the best representation that he could make him. (i dont know if this has anything to do with autism or if its just a cute thing billy does, but he cant swear. like something surprised him and he yelled ‘motherf- ah just mother is good’ like he couldnt finish the word. idk i just liked that part of his character)

t warning: okay so there is one scene that could be triggering for some people, so major spoiler here. the villain ends up killing billy ¾ through the movie, the rangers take him back to the main ship to ask their mentor person what to do and if theres any way to save him, but eventually the mentor brings him back to life. i felt slightly uncomfortable during that scene because they killed off their only black and autistic character. i still dont know how to feel about it until i hear from actual black/autistic people but i wanted y’all to know, if seeing that could harm you or trigger you. if you want to avoid seeing that happen to billy, it happens when the five are captured at the docks and its drawn out for a few minutes, i cant remember how many. if someone could accompany you, they could stay in the theater and text or come get you when the scene is over.

OH and something i noticed after the emotional scene mentioned above, billy was being hugged and he was hugging back, but jason walked up to him and kept his distance, letting billy initiate the hug if thats what he wanted to do. jason heard billy’s uncomfortableness in being touch and remembered, and let him have his space and freedom to decide on a hug or not. theyre my new brotp and I LOVE THEM

keep in mind that i dont know everything, i dont have autism so some things most likely shot over my head and didnt register, so im sorry if it did and if what ive told you has been incorrect. you are totally free to correct me if i have been, but i felt like billy was (mostly) treated with care and respect.

so admittedly the gay character reveal was kinda small, i wouldve definitely liked if it was bigger but keeping in mind what the director said in one of his interviews is important.

“For Trini, really she’s questioning a lot about who she is. She hasn’t fully figured it out yet. I think what’s great about that scene and what the scene propels for the rest of the movie is, ‘That’s OK.’ The movie is saying, ‘That’s OK,’ and all of the kids have to own who they are and find their tribe.” xxx

The way it’s revealed sounded as if Trini (yellow) was fresh into figuring out who she is, what her sexuality is, where she fits in society. the five were revealing secrets about one another to get to know each other better and she tells them that she and her family are never in town for long, and she likes it like that because its easier to not have to constantly get to know people, to show them your vulnerable side.

zack (black) made a little joke about ‘boyfriend problems’ which her subtle face expressions rejected, to which he asks ‘girlfriend problems?’ and she seemed unsure. (theres no negative reactions from the others, it does seem to portray the idea that ‘Thats OK’, that her potentially having girlfriend problems is totally okay to the other characters) im not positive in what expression she was conveying, maybe the character wasnt totally sure of her answer herself, but i remember being that way too.

i always asked myself if wondering if i was bisexual was actually just me wanting to fit in with my friends, or if i was trying to get attention from some unknown faceless person. i kept quiet about my thoughts for quite some time, i didnt want to blurt it out while still feeling wildly unconfident about my answer, in case i /was/ vying for attention (i wasnt). so maybe this representation isnt what my present day mostly-out self wouldve liked, but to my past questioning and confused “straight” self, i wouldve related to that uncertainty. i wouldve seen myself in Trini and wouldve cried tbh. if the sequels actually happen (theres a plan for five more movies to be made?? i hope it happens) then i really do hope that we see her sexuality expanded upon as she becomes more comfortable with herself.

(and maybe it was just me but did Trini seem like she had the hots for Kimberly (pink)? id have to watch it again bc a lot of information at one time kinda shocks my brain into a stupor and the details get foggy)

t warning: theres a car crash scene in the very beginning of the movie and one sorta 2/4 of the way where theyre escaping the mining area and connect with a train. after the second crash jason throws up but there isnt any visual, only audio. i cant think of anything else in the movie, so if any of you need to avoid or know about those, i hope this helps.

I live in Southern California, I have been looking for work since I moved here from France. I posted a general sales resume on careerbuilder.com and have since been spammed by insurance agencies. Some have been good companies like State Farm and Farmers. Some have been less, like Colonial Life and Axa advisers. I believe Axa wanted me for a commissioned investment broker position. I didn't pass the personality test for State Farm, but I can try again in a year. I will have a strategy and research next time. State Farm has 9 month paid training, a huge signing bonus at the end and would be an excellent opportunity but it isn't for right now. Here we have a new smartphone to review from Infinix Mobility – that’s Infinix Hot S3 (aka Infinix S3). It’s an entry-level smartphone with recently trending features like the fullview wider display.

It’s not a surprise that Infinix, a Hong Kong based smartphone brand owned by TRANSSION Holdings, has settled very nicely in the Pakistan market. The company started operating in the country in mid 2015 with the launch of Infinix Hot Note quickly followed Zero 2 smartphone. Since then, the company has gone through various marketing strategies to launch a variety of its mid-ranger and budget smartphones.

Even though the company has entered into local markets with physical retail store presence, it’s major sales are still done through online merchandising and it’s doing really good with it. Most recent launches from the company were – Zero 5 with 6GB RAM, and Infinix Note 4 and 4 Pro.

Build, Design and Display

When it comes to build quality, I have witnessed Infinix making really good quality phones in the price range it’s currently serving. Likewise, the Infinix Hot S3 is no exception – it looks and feels really good in hands.

The Infinix Hot S3 features a 5.7-inch screen with 2.5D curved glass on top. There’s no mention of any scratch resistance and indeed it seems to catch the minor scratches. The phone has 18:9 resolution of 1440 by 720 pixels with the pixel density of around 285ppi while the screen-to-body ratio is around 81%. The wider aspect ratio has its own objectives to show content in more space specially the cinemascopic media. Then you have an option to stretch up and down to suit your needs while watching videos or playing games, provided the apps supports the customised displays such as YouTube can fit the 18:9 display.

  The resolution on the other hand still provides an evidence that it’s an entry-level smartphone. This large screen with 720p HD resolution is not as sharp as you would have on an FHD display. But count the pixel density as well which is just below 300 and isn’t that bad for reading content. For the price tag, it’s yet the best you can get.

When talking about the features, on the front face, the top bezel has all those standard sensors invisible to the eye, the earpiece in the middle, the front camera on one side and a soft LED flash on the other side of earpiece.

It’s a 20-megapixel camera on the front that we’ll cover later in the camera section. Also when said the standard sensors, it’s just those standard ones including ambient light and proximity sensors. No special sensors like gyroscope are there to entertain you for virtual reality content. So this could be a deal breaker for some but if you are truly looking for an entry-level smartphone for such a price, you’d already know what you’re gonna have at most.

There are no capacitive keys on the front as the standard software based in-screen navigation buttons are there for navigation. Still there’s a significant bezel right down there with absolutely nothing on it.

Power and volume buttons are on the right side as usually they are on most smartphones. The left side of the phone hosts the slot for dual-SIM cards and a micro SD card. It’s not a hybrid one but can serve with both the SIM cards and micro SD card simultaneously.

The phone has a 3.5mm audio jack on the top and all other things like micro USB port, a loudspeaker and a mouthpiece or the primary microphone for all voice stuff.

Sure the build material is plastic (mimicking metal like mostly these days) but not that plastic we have previously seen from high-end smartphone makers having generated revenues for cheap thin plastic phones for their flagship smartphones for years. This is just about time, that now there are plenty of smartphone makers in the market and they have to provide quality that is better or at least competitive.

So the build material of Infinix Hot S3 is really fine. The unit we got here for review is the Sandstone Black variant that has a matte finish and it’s really compact with a combination of rounded and chamfered edges.

Thanks to the comfortable chamfered and rounded edges, the phone is easy to grip. Handling is fine and comfortable with 150 grams of the phone’s weight and 8.4mm thickness.

On the back, the phone has a 13-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash enclosed into a spherical module raised above the surface of the panel. Visually the camera seems larger but it’s not bigger than any standard mobile camera sensor type physically. So expect the camera performance within the category or price range of phone. Some software manipulation still may differ the picture/video quality from one device to another.

Below the camera, there’s a fingerprint scanner on the rear side of the phone. That’s usually a preferred position for a fingerprint scanner for most as it’s easily reachable to your index finger. Unlike that, the fingerprint scanner on the front-below-screen position is usually awkward for your thumb to reach until you carry the phone with your fingertips on the lower part of the phone and position your thumb on the fingerprint scanner.

So my preferred place for fingerprint scanner on a smartphone is on the back when rightly placed for index finger. What’s yours and why? do tell us in the comments below.

Camera

Now that we are talking about features placed on the rear side, the camera is, for sure, the major element there. It’s 13-megapixel primary camera, even though the front camera has much more pixels than this. The main camera is actually a fully functional autofocus camera while on the front it’s a fixed-focus camera unit. Mostly that’s the case with smartphones, whether it’s an entry-level, mid-range or even a high-end phone. When it’s also an autofocus camera on the front – that’s plausible.

Interestingly, with an entry-level price tag, the phone has a featureful camera UI specially when it comes with a Pro mode. However, there is little miss-management with the UI that you have to scroll all the screens through the left to reveal the modes. How?

Well, in most user friendly scenarios two modes – the Still Photos and Video Recording are right there on the screen. You can easily switch from one to the other. The settings or features for those respective modes become available from a hamburger/gear icon on the screen. Other modes are quickly accessible from another key icon or a screen-gesture.

With this specific camera UI, everything is stacked into a slider. They in order – Modes, Video, Auto, Beauty. Can you guess what they are? OK! The camera starts with the “Auto” mode selected, that’s the still photos mode. For video recording, you perform a swipe-right gesture to activate “Video” mode. Likewise when you need to use ‘beautify’ function on still photos, you need to navigate from “Auto” to “Beauty” mode by sliding to the left. Just like that, for more modes, you will need to swipe-left through all the modes to go and find them.

Other modes are, Panorama, Night mode, Time lapse, and Professional. The pro mode is like the most vendors today have, but not as extensive as Huawei has provided in its high-end smartphones. Well that’s also true that Huawei hasn’t provided such a feature in its Y7 Prime 2018 which is exactly the same cost with pretty much similar hardware. So I’ll give Infinix Hot S3, the thumbs up for that. You can set ISO from 100 to 1550, shutter speed from 1/3000th of a second to 6 seconds. There are three focus modes – auto, macro and manual. That’s more than enough on an entry-level smartphone.

Other quick features on the camera interface are pretty much straight forward and easy to access. They automatically change based on the modes you choose. Auto still mode provides HDR, flash and filter options, while you can also switch aspect ratio right from the viewfinder that also changes the resolution for the photos. Video mode only offers to use flashlight.

Picture Quality

Daylight shots were decent as long as you see them on your screen. Color noise is controlled well but still available and can be noticed at gradient levels when viewing at 1:1 sized shots. Mostly the distinct objects come sharp with little soft edges but those soft edges becomes problem for subjects closer each other. Examples are leaves and grass, you will see that how they are smudged into each other in pictures taken with Infinix Hot S3.

Surprisingly the dynamic range is not that bad for such a price tag but still it’s out of order where HDR feature helps in a much better way. Low-light shots have nothing exceptional to tell about with more noisy and less detailed image. You can use flash on close subjects though which sometimes works fine but overexposes the subject on another time.

20-megapixel camera on the front is fixed focus but still does the purpose. That higher pixel count works well to give plenty of detail in your selfie shots. The front camera also features a portrait mode with bokeh effect. It blurs out the background to distinct you in the shot but frankly it’s not that good in quality as the subject edges sometimes mix into the background.

The phone can record up to 1080p video footage at 30 frames per second. We didn’t have a sample for that. The review will be updated once the footage is ready to publish.

Software – Android 8 Oreo, XOS 3.0

Now the base driver of the phone – the software. Infinix Hot S3 runs Android 8.0 Oreo with custom software skin on top – XOS 3.0 dubbed as Hummingbird. The phone may come with a previous build of Android out of the box but you it’s bound to receive the most recent update. The one we reviewed is running the March 1st security patch.

We aren’t sure if the phone will get Android 8.1 sooner or later but I believe the community is running with vast range of developers and you may get an update at least. However, for now you get the basic  Android Oreo features such as auto fill, picture-in-picture mode etc.

  XOS UI has an app drawer in vertical order but the launcher itself is customizable. You can rearrange the home screen with different icon size. The launcher also features headlines page on the home screen which can be turned on and off on your demand.

The phone’s fingerprint scanner is enough for security but it also has Face ID that works with your front camera. So in dark environments, it usually fails to identify your face but in that case it offers a bulb icon on the lock screen that turns on the flash to lighten up your face to identify. However both, the fingerprint scanner and the face identification aren’t very fast in response if compared to the Huawei’s variations.

The software offers the night light feature which reduces the blue light to prevent unexpected sleep. More than preventing a sleep, I always prefer to have it turned on because the less blue is more comfortable for me to watch on the screen.

The phone has an color LED notification light on the front top for missed calls alerts, unread messages and some more events. The feature can be turned off from the system settings if you want. The feature actually helps during the time when battery is low and you don’t want it to lose with display always turning on. Even though the display can stay asleep but for any notification to read, you have to turn it on everytime. So the notification LED has its advantage.

Battery and Performance

The core of the smartphone comes to trial and it’s Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 chipset with octa-core processor. All the eight cores are ARM’s Cortex A53 but four are clocked at up to 1.2GHz while the other four are clocked at up to 1.5GHz. The chip is also bundled with Adreno 505 GPU. The phone comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which is really a good thing for an entry-level smartphone to fulfil today’s tasks.

Everything is perfectly fine for such a budget phone, it never ran into any issue when stayed in use. The animations were smooth to get appreciated without any lag. Some apps had lagging in long scrolls and heavy stuff in the scroll. The phone allows moderate gaming but sure not some heavy titles for long.

While benchmark scores are only to tell the numerical difference between one device to the other, it’s a good thing for users to make mind about some device’s performance. So take glimpse on a few benchmark scores.

All that performance comes above the energy from 4000 mAh battery. That’s sure a good thing to have for heavy usage of a smartphone in today’s life. With Infinix Hot S3, the battery is a remarkable part of the bundle as it keeps the phone alive all day long on one full charge. And that’s not only casual usage, it’s about some heavy usage including some gaming, photography, social networking over WiFi or 4G/LTE.

Unfortunately, on top of that large battery, you don’t get an extra glass of juice called an ultra power saving. You only get a standard power saver below 20% of battery.

Conclusion and Verdict

After every give and take, we are still talking about an entry-level smartphone. Considering the price factor, you get a very few options to compare. One such is the recently launched Huawei Y7 Prime 2018, with the exact price tag and very similar core hardware components, you get dual-camera on top of that. But as we haven’t compare the photos from these two cameras, we can’t prefer one over the other. However one thing is certain, the 4000mAh battery of Infinix Hot S3 takes the lead over Huawei’s model.

There is no objection over the usage of hardware on a device that costs only PKR 20,000 until a new brand jumps in with some better hardware in the similar price tag. That 720p display and Snapdragon 430 are sure for entry-level smartphones so be with it. If you want some better thing you need to gear up with your budget as well. Or just wait for a few more months to see if there something coming for you. For now, it is what it is. CELTIC skipper Scott Brown has warned Motherwell they need to sort out the home support before a serious incident occurs.

The Scotland international midfielder joked that he collected a £1 coin and a packet of Chewits in the midweek 1-1 draw, but maintained it is only a matter of time before a player or fan is injured by missiles being thrown from the stand.

Brown said: “You don’t hear anything about coins launched in people’s direction and trying to injure people.

“That all gets thrown under the carpet and they focus on two decisions.

“I made a pound. There was a coin, strawberry Chewits – I picked them up, too! It isn’t showing a great example, especially when there are kids there.

“If they misplace that coin and it hits a kid or someone else on the head and you don’t want that, but eventually someone will get hit.

“There was a few times it happened. It was at throw-ins and a few times with Griff taking a corner.

“It is always from that same section. You think they would eventually move those fans around to stop it happening.

“It is starting to become part and parcel of going there now. It is a great place to go and play football because the fans are on top of one another, but you can’t be launching things.

“If we do anything then we would have a bad reputation if we had to throw something back, but they can do it for 90 minutes.

“Eventually someone will get injured. Until that happens, no-one will do anything about it.”

Motherwell, as you know, last night crashed the internet when the released their statement before minutes later Grant Russell’s former employer, STV carried the story. CQN had been trying to contact Grant regarding the missive throwing and the unacceptable behaviour of the Motherwell supporters, and yeah we were at the game.

There were no broken seats in the rear of the stand and we were among the last to leave the ground as we were perched way up at the back where remarkably you struggle to see the goals below you.

A word or two about the penalties that Celtic got in the last two games. Davie Hay describes both as “soft penalties” but still penalties.

Both referees, Thomson and Collum, were correct to award them and equally both could have decided against pointing to the spot, perhaps if their position on the park was different.

For example the referee at the recent game in Dingwall failed to award a penalty kick when Callum McGregor was about to score because from the angle he saw it the ball changed direction. So the point of the Motherwell statement is what?

They failed to appeal the red card on Sunday, the route that was open to them to make their point wasn’t taken. We know why.

And now the hacks are one by one having to eat their Wednesday words when shown the footage that clearly shows that McGregor was barged from behind by a reckless opponent who effectively threw away two points for his side and helped preserve Celtic’s unbeaten run.

Motherwell were over physical all night on Wednesday and it eventually cost them two points.

Sports Sound on BBC Scotland last night was a remarkable listen as their usual line-up of ex-Rangers players, one by one, were forced to watch the incident again and grudgingly accept that it was a penalty. The first penalty Celtic had been awarded in the league all season.

And if ex-Rangers players, who were vocal in calling out the dodgy refereeing and Celtic diving on Wednesday could now accept that Willie Collum got it right then we can pop over to, of all places, Follow Follow, the hardcore Rangers forum for a similar perspective.

They had worked themselves up into a frenzy thinking that Callum McGregor was offside, clearly oblivious to the rules of the game.

But, in the moments of clarity, I knew I couldnt do that because of my son. I havent gambled since but the drink crowded the void for a while. I was frightened and didnt feel like there was anywhere else to transform. Rehab didnt production before so why would it work now? I stupidly took convenience in the alcohol but it objective up deepening the depression. It was relentless from every slant. Until 12 March. Thats the day I lost my “drivers licence”. Thats when I realised my life had now become unmanageable.

Caulker was ordered to pay 12,755 in penalties and costs at Slough magistrates court at the end of March and was banned from driving for 18 months, having refused to blow into a breathalyser after police were called to a parking lot near Windsor Castle. I knew I was over the limit, I knew Id get the ban but I didnt want to tell my parents Id fucked up again. What if I had driven the car out of the car park and killed someone? No, that was it. Ive been up before a adjudicate four or five times. No more second probabilities. Its a incarcerate sentence next. I was still injured and unable to play, so I signed off sick. I went to see a specialist who diagnosed me with depression and nervousnes. He prescribed me medication and we put together a design where I would take some time away to sort myself out.
