Fame - Angus Cloud (3)
Summary- a luckily timed audition leads to you falling for your new and unexpected co-star.
Warnings- okay HI welcome to my first multi chapter series woah?! this is actually so exciting for me like wow especially since angus doesn’t have any fics yet im just really really excited- so warnings! smut for sure, bad words, lotsa fluff, angst- everything in one basically. here comes a ride and I hope you enjoy :)
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3 {reading now}
-
Well, needless to say you got the role.
The final run through with Drake was successful, he started spewing off about how talented you were. You did your usual which was smile and nod, and Angus told you to "Stop being so shy mamas. You gotta get used to this."
Time flew as you turned in forms, focused on moving closer to set, and grew your social media audience. It was all exciting but also overwhelming, however you already loved it.
You and Angus seemed to be getting more comfortable with each other, the tension was wearing off and a simple friendship was forming. The luxury apartment you were moving into for when filming ceased was conveniently just a few doors down from his apartment, you two were going to be in the same complex. You talked quite often and filming hadn't even started yet, and you almost felt silly for feeling intimidated, if that was even the word, by him before. He'd offered to come over to help you move in- and even though the tension had faded, your {sometimes} inappropriate thoughts of him hadn't.
But today was the day everything kicked into gear, because today was the first day of filming.
You and Angus decided to meet up at a small, locally owned coffee shop before heading to set. You could both go together, and since he offered to drive, you could save some gas.
You got there early, you two were to meet at 7:30 am, you were there at 7:25 due to leaving time to dodge the traffic. Angus came through the door yawning at 8:17- due to oversleeping.
"Do you always do this?" you laughed sliding a donut over to him as he sat down across from you in the booth.
"Do what?" he asked, eating half of the donut in one big bite.
"Are you always late- like on set? Because most of my scenes are with you and I-"
"You think ahead a lot, I just like sleeping, you should like it too you feel what I mean? Sleep is just that bitch...if there was a girl like sleep then I would have a girl."
Half of the time the things Angus came up with made zero sense to you, but you always just agreed and moved along. For example, yesterday night he called you at 12:32 am just to let you know that the Frosted Flakes box had 'of corn' in small writing under the bold logo. You said you'd never noticed that- which was the truth, and then that led to him telling you the complete history of Mandela effects. You didn't get back to bed until 1:54.
"And to be fair Y/N, you kept me up last night with that Mandela effect shit." he said with a smirk as he finished off the donut.
Your mouth fell open as you rolled your eyes "Boy as if! You wish I-"
"So you quoting 90s movies now? That's new, don't really know how I feel ab-"
"Lets go," you shook your head standing up and tossing your coffee cup into the garbage.
You two walked out and into the warm LA air. "You read the scripts at all?" He asked you as you headed to his car.
"I did! We have a lot of scenes...some are quite different."
"What you mean? Not boutta lie I didn't read anything past the first episode cuz them other shits too far away."
"Well, sex is always a given in Euphoria."
"Yeah them nude scenes finna make me feel a bit violated if you know what I mean."
"You'll be fine, all you show is your ass but I have to-"
"Oh shit I gotta show my cheeks? For real? On television- aw nah I gotta talk to somebody about tha-"
"I have to show everything except my baby maker so...who really has it worse?"
"Yo' baby maker? Is that them gorgeous eyes cuz it sure does make me want to make a baby wit' you."
Was that a joke-
He did this alot. You never knew if he was actually flirting or if it was just him joking around, but you always assumed it was the latter.
"Was that a...was that a joke from you Angus? How rare!"
He flipped you off with a goofy grin at the next red light and you laughed. "No all jokes aside though Gus, I gotta show my whole body, titties and all. Like my parents are going to watch this how do I? Explain?"
“Well we can fuck wit’ all that when we get to it.”
“Oh baby...” You said sarcastically. “You didn't actually read the first episodes script did you?”
“What you mean?”
You pulled the script from out of your tote, clearing your throat before you started to read. “Jess looks at Fez with a gleam of interest in her eyes. ‘Its been awhile tiger’ she says in a certain way, a way that makes Fez adjust his- yeah I’m not reading that- ‘It has’ Fez says biting his lip. He wants her, but he doesn't know if she wants him too...he thinks she doe-”
“We gotta have sex the first episode? Nah you lying.”
“Episode 1, 3, 5, 7 and 8.”
“Holy shit what?! Aint nobody have that much sex last season...”
“Yeah but its because of our storyline. Jess and Fez constantly want each other and they think the only way to let it out is through sex- they are both terrible with commitment and Jess is afraid of Fez’s dealing; even if she wants to be with him that's keeping her away.”
“Damn, my manz Fez gettin’ the short end of the stick.”
“Jess is the only one getting a short stick Angus.”
It took him a minute to understand what you said, but as soon as he comprehended it his eyes widened. “Girl no you didnt- you know I’m packing- how you gon’ do me like that?!” he said defensively as he parked. You couldn't help but to laugh as you hurried out of the car. “Imma get you back for that!” He yelled after you. You shook your head and walked to the main trailer where everyone was to gp.
Walking in you saw only Z and Storm, Queen Bey played softly in the background showing the girls in front of you were in their element. “Hey girl!” Z said giving you a quick side hug. “Dont worry about being late, its all good. You came with Angus didn't you?”
You nodded whilst rolling your eyes and took the key she was holding out, walking back out and to your trailer.
The trailer was cozy, comfortable and not too small. It had quite a modern look to it, and the look on the outside didn't match the inside at all. You smiled as you sat on the sofa, seeing a white envelope on the glass table. On it was scribbled ‘Angus and Y/N’. Before you could get up to go over to his trailer, he walked in- no invitation, no knock, no anything. “Gee!!!! Good thing I wasn’t naked!” You said sarcastically as you glared at him.
“Yeah whateva. We gotta read this letter together I guess.” He said plopping down beside you.
“Yeah yeah okay, I can read it out loud.” You said cracking open the envelope and pulling out the bright white printer paper. “Okay here we go...it's from...Drake?”
“Ah shit.”
“Don’t worry yet, it's probably just- let me just read.”
Angus nodded and got more comfortable on the sofa as you started to read. “Angus and Y/N. On behalf of your upcoming roles I wanted to tell you guys to loosen up. Theres alot of sexy time to film, and I don't want the viewers to feel the sexual tension from Angus and Y/N, I want them to feel it radiating from Jess and Fez. Make kissing casual, make being naked around each other casual too. Don't make that shit weird. And Angus, make sure you can get it up. If it takes...oh-” you stopped for a moment.
“What?” Angus looked at you and you cocked your head to one side still inspecting the letter.
“Okay- here, he said: If it takes walking around each other unclothed then do it, take care of that tension between you two. I could feel it in the final run through, meaning that the viewers would be able to sense it as well. I'm only saying all this cuz its your first time filming together. I need art, not high school production shit. You guys have the passion, and you click. But there's something missing. Make the fuck out and get this show on the road. I'm always a call away if its not working out-- Drake.”
“Well damn. What he tryna say?”
“Angus it's clear what he's saying- I mean come on I feel the tension between us too, and I don't know what it is but hes right, whatever it is we need to get over it, and move on from that. This is business- an art form we have to work through. Ight?”
“Ight. So what I’m hearing is we gotta make out and get naked.”
“We aren't doing anything until ya girl takes a nap.”
“How you sleepy we just got here and you woke up 3 hours ago?”
“Listen man it is not my fault I only got 4 and a half hours of sleep-”
“SO you tryna say it’s mine?!” “It is! With your mandela effecr loving ass.”
He chuckled under his breath. “Okay okay, fair. But lemme sleep wit’ you.” “What? Why?”
“You the one that read the letter, we gotta drop this tension lil mama. And if we legit just sleeping, ion see nun wrong wit’ it, do you?”
You thought it over, and he had a point. There was nothing wrong with it, sleeping is sleeping...and besides, you two would have to do much worse.
“Whatever, come on.”
“Let’s go to my trailer though.”
“What? Why? Ion wanna walk come on Angu-”
“I can carry you then. But my place more homey, you just got here and your bed ain’t even got sheets.”
Damn, why is he always right? “Okay fine but carry me.”
He hunched down in front of the sofa “Get on my back and we can go.”
You grabbed your phone getting onto his back and holding on tight, your arms around his neck and your thighs squishing his sides. “Go go go!” You giggled, feeling safe as you rested your chin on the top of his head.
He ran to the trailer, causing you to laugh and hold on even tighter. Dropping you onto the bed, he looked around the small trailer-bedroom for more covers.
“You know girl,” he said looking into the closet “You kinda cute. How you was laughing out there had my heart beating fast and shit.” He found a throw and turned back around to ask you if it was good, but you were already out, completely sound asleep, and cuddled into a pillow. “Damn so you ain't hear none o’ that huh?” He sighed. “Probably better on my end. Can’t be catching feelings and shit.” He covered you over and lay beside you.
In your sleep your body detected the body heat, so you unknowingly turned over, cuddling into his chest. A smile formed on your lips as you moved closer, practically wrapping yourself around him.
The man sighed placing his lips to your forehead and leaving a light kiss. “Yeah. No catching feelings.”

[TRANSCRIPT] Episode 0: The Anime They Once Saw (Or Didn’t See)
Kat  0:00
Hello and welcome to the Untitled Tallgeese Podcast, a podcast where four of us will watch Gundam Wing and then tell you all about Gundam Wing. My name is Kat, I write about comics on the internet, and I will be your episode moderator for today.
Mallory  0:17
And I'm Mallory, and I also write about comics.
Cathy  0:20
I'm Cathy, I don't write about comics. I am actually a lawyer, which sucks.
All  0:26
[laughter]
Caitlin  0:28
I am Caitlin. I'm a PhD researcher in Tokyo right now working on Japanese film. Yeah.
Kat  0:33
Extremely legit.
Caitlin  0:35
Are we?
Cathy  0:36
and we're all here to talk about the Gundam Wing.
Kat  0:38
[crosstalk] I mean we might be.
Kat  0:41
We are here to talk about Gundam Wing, the maybe not critically acclaimed, but fandom, okay, audience favorite anime  that was released in 1995 in Japan and then made its way to the US in March 2000 on Toonami. So, we're going to talk about our fandom history and our history with the show Gundam Wing and I guess I will kick that off. So I-- I grew up watching anime because my dad is a huge nerd. So we were obviously watching Toonami. And the promos blew my mind. My friends and I all got really into it in middle school. Then we discovered fanfiction and we started with Heero/Relena fan fiction. [Caitlin: Ugh.] And then then we realized people could be gay.
Caitlin  1:29
Uugh, thank god.
Kat  1:30
That opened up like, I know it was like the clouds parted. rainbows fell from the sky. We were like, Oh, wow.
Mallory  1:39
[singing] "A whole new world"
Kat  1:40
[laughter] And then I don't know. I wrote a lot of fanfiction posted it on FF dotnet, got into fandom and then stayed in fandom. So, Mallory?
Mallory  1:53
I didn't have cable growing up. So whatever anime exposure I got was like, whatever was on Saturday morning cartoons. So Digimon was my first fandom and I was really into that.
Kat  2:08
Hell yeah
Mallory  2:09
And that sort of like bled into Gundam Wing somehow, I don't really remember how. But I found my way to Gundam Wing, read a lot of fanfic, hadn't ever really watched the show. And then in high school, my friend had some like random episodes from the first season question mark. I have no idea. So I watched those, and really enjoyed that? But I have no idea what their context was, so I'm coming at this pretty, pretty new.
Cathy  2:44
So you have never watched it from beginning to end?
Mallory  2:47
No.
Cathy  2:47
Got it. This will be fun.
Mallory  2:50
I'm expecting to be really disapproving of all the adults in the room. I find that like, now that I'm watching anime about kids, I'm really protective of these kids like, "Hey, this is really unethical!"
Cathy  3:02
So I'm like Kat, I started watching anime when I was I think around Middle School. I had a friend who got me into Sailor Moon, then I think it was Dragon Ball that was on Toonami at the time? I can't really remember the chronology.
Kat  3:16
Yeah.
Cathy  3:17
But then they did the promos for Gundam Wing, so then I started watching that on Toonami. And it was my first mecha series. And my first Gundam series, I think it's a lot of people's first Gundam series in the United States.
Cathy  3:31
I have attempted to do similar projects to this multiple times where I go back and I rewatch, and I haven't really had the opportunity to actually finish those rewatches. But my memory of it is still kind of stuck of when I was in middle school slash high school. I did get into fandom, so I expect to remember a lot of inaccuracies about what happened. [laughter] Because a lot of what my facts have with this series are have now mutated and changed. But I was a huge Gundam Wing fan, I think it still remains my favorite of the Gundam series just because I have so many memories of it? But I really excited to talk to Mallory, about what you feel and your experiences because it's been so long since I've talked to somebody who actually has never seen the series and doesn't know the story. So I'm super excited about this.
Caitlin  4:24
Yeah!
Cathy  4:25
All right, Cait, tell us about your family history.
Caitlin  4:27
Yeah, so similar to all of us, I guess, I watched anime growing up. I got into Sailor Moon sort of through an accident of just happening to see a very specific episode on Toonami in like 1999, 1998 maybe. So after that, I got really into anime and really into the internet. I think I was very depressed as a child. [laughter] So I spend a lot of time online. I believe that like my my first memories of Gundam Wing are when it was on Toonami: Sailor Moon was on first and then Dragon Ball Dragon Ball Z, and then Gundam Wing. And then they also were showing like the quote unquote unedited versions late
Cathy  5:09
Yes!
Kat  5:09
Yes, the midnight run
Cathy  5:11
The midnight run Right.
Cathy  5:12
Yeah. So very specific memories of like, I think I was mainly attracted to the, like, team format of Gundam if that makes sense? [Cathy: Yeah yeah yeah!] where it was used to sailor Sailor Moon where you have a team of color coded characters. And I'd, at a younger age been really into Power Rangers, where you had a team of color coded characters. So the marketing of Gundam Wing really appealed. You know, cuz I was just a kid watching on TV, I never really, I don't know if I watched the whole thing as a kid, but I got really into the fandom. And by 2000, 2001, I already knew about gay stuff online.
Kat  5:48
Wow. Look at you early bloomer.
Caitlin  5:50
Yeah. So So I got really into the various Gundam Wing pairings, I think it was mainly, I was mainly a 3x4, I think as a child. I went through some, 1x2, and then 2x5 phases. [laughter]
Caitlin  6:09
I still am a big advocate for 2x5, I think it's underrated.
Kat  6:12
I'm a big 2x5.
Cathy  6:13
2x5 is a good pairing, it definitely is.
Kat  6:16
Yeah.
Cathy  6:16
It's a better pairing as an adult.
Kat  6:17
So okay, I think that's actually a pretty good bounce off. So these are the things we remember about Gundam Wing. It was marketed, like, I remember the Toonami marketing 'cause I was really hype for this show. They had like these really extreme commercials.
Caitlin  6:34
Yeah.
Kat  6:35
Um, and I thought the voice acting was good. I don't know, maybe we'll revisit that during this watch, to see if it still is,
Caitlin  6:43
[crosstalk] Was it dubbed?,
Cathy  6:44
[crosstalk] It was dubbed, yes.
Kat  6:44
But I was ready for it. It was dubbed.
Caitlin  6:46
It was dubbed. One thing with the with the Japanese voice acting though, is that it's every single famous voice actor from the 90s. And so you can, you can use Gundam Wing is like a six degrees of every single voice actor from the 1990s.
Caitlin  6:59
Oh, that's cool.
Mallory  7:00
I mean, there are a lot of big American or like, dub dub names on the dub side, too.
Cathy  7:06
One of the things that I remember very strongly about Toonami is that they had what I think we would now call anime music videos, AMVs.
Kat  7:16
Yeah
Cathy  7:17
But they would play
Caitlin  7:18
Yeah,
Cathy  7:18
These montage trailers, where they'd stich together all their different series. And as they accumulated more anime series, these became really, I think, cinematic and gripping tales, where they would kind of try to tell a story to be about, like bravery or honor or like,
Kat  7:36
It's like, plugged directly into my little 11 year old brain like, Whoa,
Cathy  7:40
Yes. And one of them was, I remember was called, like, "technological development" or something like that, that featured a lot of the Gundam Wing clips.
Kat  7:47
Oh, yeah, cuz you only download them from like, KaZaa,  or whatever horrible thing I was putting into my computer.
Caitlin  7:52
Yeah. We gotta see if we can find those. [crosstalk] They must be online somewhere.
Cathy  7:56
They are online. And I think they actually came out with like, I think somebody had either like hand by hand remastered them.
Kat  8:03
[crosstalk] Oh sick.
Cathy  8:02
Or they created a remastered version of it. They're wonderful. But that's I think one of the things about Toonami that I remember really strongly was Gundam Wing kind of is one of their, like epitome of like, Cool Anime that I feel like Toonami did and what it did was like they stiched together all these different things Outlaw Star and Tenchi Muyo and all these other stories to create a story about teenage growth, which is kind of strange and also weirdly fitting at the end of the day about like where Gundam is in the whole universe.
Kat  8:07
I think that's one of the reasons it blew up so much here because the marketing was really intense. Like Toonami, like it sort of right at the beginning, like people were into Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z was getting big. And like the manga boom was sort of happening in bookstores. So contextually, I think, Cartoon Network knew what the hell they were doing. They were like, "We can market the hell out of this."
Caitlin  8:55
And also objectively speaking, Gundam Wing was one of their cooler series. Like, Sailor Moon is cool. Tenchi Muyo is not cool.
All  9:04
[laughter]
Kat  9:06
Yeah.
Caitlin  9:07
Even even if you love it, it's not really cool. Dragon Ball. Love it. I don't know if it's really cool. Gundam Wing had like a very strong -
Kat  9:14
[crosstalk] like the chad of animes
Caitlin  9:16
- adult aesthetic to it, even though it was like, relatively, well, relatively appropriate for like 12 year olds.
Kat  9:23
And they swore during the midnight show.
Caitlin  9:25
Oh yeah,
Kat  9:26
They swore and there was blood.
Caitlin  9:27
So it was very cool. And so I felt very adult watching it even though I didn't really understand what was going on because it's all this fake politics crap.
Kat  9:35
Yeah, I was gonna say I did do a rewatch in like, like, right after college, so it was probably around 2010 ish, maybe? And I don't think we finished the series, but it was like, wow, I used to think this was very deep. [laughter] And I thought all the people in it who are the adults like Mallory, you were mentioning earlier, like they're actually like 17 and 19
Cathy  10:01
Yes!
Kat  10:01
in this show. So watching it at the age of 21, I was like, "Ooh no, don't give these people anything."
Cathy  10:09
I was actually thinking about that. Because when you said Mallory, "oh, well, I become very protective of the children. I disapprove the adults," in my head of thinking "what adults?" [crosstalk, Caitlin: yeah what adults?] because actually, in Gundam Wing, there's a funny thing where people are either 15, 25 or like 70. And there's no in between and nobody really makes adult decisions. So it, That was one thing that really shocked me because as I go back to revisit it, I think, "Oh my god, I'm actually older than almost everybody in this series."
Caitlin  10:39
How old, how old is Treize supposed to be?
Cathy  10:41
He's like 23, or 24.
Kat  10:42
He's 19.
Cathy  10:43
No, Zechs is 19.
Kat  10:44
Oh, Zechs is 19. Right.
Cathy  10:47
I just the idea of giving people who, you know, would have either been in college or just graduate college in my worldview, huge robots.
Kat  10:58
I think the ages of all the characters gets obscured by the anime art style, you know?
Cathy  11:03
Yeah.
Kat  11:03
In a lot of anime fandoms.
Mallory  11:04
And when you're watching this, when you're a kid, you want to see yourself as the protagonist. So it makes sense that, you know, a 17 year old seems like old and cool, and I want to be that person. And then when you're 30, you're like, the 17 year old should not be at war.
Kat  11:23
Relevant is that we definitely watched Evangelion. That was our last series.
Caitlin  11:29
I don't know, I think, I think Heero Yuy is doing fine in war. I'm gonna, I'm gonna be honest, as a 30 year old, I think these kids are much better at war than I would be.
Cathy  11:39
Well, so that's what I find kind of interesting, is that I think this series actually... I don't, I know this wasn't the point but when I rewatched it recently, or just like the first couple of episodes, it seemed, it made a lot of sense, because they were like 15 or 24. Like the series, actually stitches together...
Caitlin  11:58
Yeah.
Cathy  11:58
...really well, because of how young they are, and kind of like the purity of feeling that they have, which I think is
Kat  12:05
Yeah, it is, like
Cathy  12:06
only maybe
Kat  12:07
like that [indistinguishable?]
Cathy  12:07
which I think is like only really, truly possible because I have to think of them as like 15 or 21 or 19 year olds. that is not at all when I took away when I was watching in high school. Right?
Mallory  12:21
Well, I mean, right.
Caitlin  12:22
Part of the ideology of Gundam in general is like trying to restore a form of hope, and youth to, like, young people growing up in Japan, who are the target audience for this, and this idea that, like, you still have the power to change the world, you still have the power to bring about peace in a way that you want, even though you're being manipulated and oppressed by all these crazy adults who make you pilot giant robots. So I think there's a significant, like part of the series is the fact that they are kids who have been recruited into child warfare, and now have to find some way out of that. And like my memory of the series is that even though most of, most of the decisions made are very bad, the kids in general are not making terrible decisions. They're making pretty good decisions.
Kat  13:12
Yeah, the pilots themselves...
Mallory  13:14
[crosstalk] Yeah
Kat  13:14
...are like doing the best they can be doing in that circumstance.
Cathy  13:17
[crosstalk] Exactly, exactly
Kat  13:19
But I think it's sort of interesting, 'cause it's like, to me Gundam Wing is definitely like a fandom era, because I think a lot of stuff exemplifies like...there's like a lot of tropes cycling through it. But also like, the series itself, is so perfectly...like, I think of it as a series that are so perfectly set up for fandom because there's a lot of like, here's my one episode mission, and we have to be at a safe house, I guess. And it's just like, a long interminable war. So there's like, a big, a lot of world building. Yeah, that creates all these spaces that sort of separate from all the political machinations of the series.
Caitlin  13:58
And that's also I think, a lot of what it was meant to be when it was created within the Gundam franchise like it was it was designed to have sort of a BL appeal to girls writing for comic market and that sort of thing. So it had like the setup of five hot guys who you could combine in various forms. And then also like Gundam itself, in general, it's designed to be and a sort of open universe that you can step into at various points, which also facilitates fandom engagement
Mallory  14:28
[crosstalk] literal fandom bait.
Caitlin  14:29
usually in the form, yeah, usually in the form of model collecting, which is like one of the main Gundam forms of fandom which we probably won't talk about too much on the show. But you, you kind of
Kat  14:41
Uh I've definitely built some Gundam models.
Caitlin  14:43
Yeah. Well, you will be the expert on that because I've never touched a Gundam model in my life. But that is like the big thing where you can you can get the model you can construct it, you can learn a little bit more about the, like, the technology and the different like details of the models and stuff like that. And it just gives you like a slight, like Little bit more of these like tiny narratives and that sort of what the fans are consuming rather than an overall plot that makes sense, which is not what Gundam has really.
Kat  15:11
So Gundam [Wing] has like the cool robots but also these hot boys in them.
Caitlin  15:15
That's what I want.
Mallory  15:16
I mean Well, that's exactly what I want to show right now. So it sounds perfect?
Kat  15:21
Honestly, yeah.
Mallory  15:23
I think Evangelion, sort of, because, Kat, you and I just finished -- or are almost finished with -- Neon Genesis Evangelion [Kat, crosstalk: we haven't done all the movies yet] which was also it was my first time [Cathy, crosstalk: Congratulations, laugh] watching the whole series...wow, grim
Kat  15:40
I also only consumed
Mallory  15:42
[crosstalk] grim
Kat  15:42
[crosstalk] I consumed it like piecemeal too
Mallory  15:44
And depressing
Kat  15:45
It was great.
Mallory  15:46
Very good but um grim.
Kat  15:50
Yeah it's pretty grim.
Cathy  15:52
Yeah, it's interesting to me because I feel like Evangelion doesn't make a lot of sense as a cultural product unless you've consumed a series like Gundam or its ancestors before watching it and yet Evangelion is a lot of people's introduction to giant robot series. So I always find that kind of interesting...
Caitlin  16:13
[crosstalk] It's very weird.
Cathy  16:14
because it, it is subversive, and I think it's subversive even if you don't know the tropes of the giant robot series, of which Gundam is perhaps a prime example. Gundam Wing...
Kat  16:27
So I was gonna ask that and like, would you say, since Evangelion is definitely a like the subversion of this genre, would you say Gundam Wing is like the type of series that it is subverting? Or do you think it's in a different place?
Caitlin  16:41
Gundam Wing and Evangelion came out the same year? Gundam Wing is in some ways a, it's already like a parody form of the original iteration of Gundam.
Kat  16:55
Okay, so it's--is it like, um, like the pure essence of teens-robots.
Caitlin  17:02
It's, it's more like, I feel like by the time of Gundam Wing, the tropes of the original Gundam series are so well set that a lot of things in Gundam Wing to, like the fans who watched the original Gundam or like later Gundams, seemed like a rehash but it was designed to bring in new fans. So something like Zechs Merquis is very clearly like a Char Aznable character. It's just sort of a reiteration of that.
Kat  17:29
So is it like a Star Wars, like a Star Wars sequel?
Caitlin  17:33
Like how the Force Awakens is kind of a rehash of yeah, of A New Hope. And then, but it still brings in a lot of fans and has appealing characters and good aesthetics
Kat  17:43
Right, yeah, I guess I think of them, the two shows, as sort of like, splitting the take on... like, what would you say is like the ur-mecha show?
Cathy  17:52
The original Gundam
Caitlin  17:54
Original Gundam?
Cathy  17:54
Yeah, Mobile Suit Gundam.
Caitlin  17:56
I mean, they're, they're older iterations, there's other robot shows. But I feel like when people think of mecha, the first thing they think of is Mobile Suit Gundam.
Cathy  18:06
So the way like I now think of Gundam Wing after the fact of experiences I have now is that like Gundam Wing is actually a perfect like K-Pop boy band way that they built it and so if you can kind of think of it like that, like it's, you need enough of the tropes and symbols, so that everybody watches it and immediately knows it's a Gundam series.
Cathy  18:30
Like the colors of Wing Gundam are so obviously
Kat  18:34
Yeah.
Cathy  18:34
a Gundam Mecca and you need that you can't get away from it. And same thing with like Zech's having a mask it the reason I think of it as being in in the Kpop industry is like there's a derivative sense. And that's animated by both like Merchandising, and advertising and what audiences want but at the same time, it's like this incredibly pure understanding of what makes us like things? And like when you get that when you really get it, like, it doesn't matter how like, quote, unquote manipulative or exploitative it can seem like you love it. And that's enough, right to make it like a thing that we all want to keep coming back to.
Mallory  19:12
And there's basically like, an archetype right? In  all of the different characters like you have the more
Kat  19:18
Yeah, you have the serious one.
Mallory  19:20
That's what I was thinking.
Kat  19:21
Like, the goofy one.
Mallory  19:23
Yeah, the goofy one, the sort of mess
Kat  19:25
the ugly one,
Mallory  19:26
like really cute one.
Kat  19:29
Yeah, that's why I was thinking American boy bands cuz they all have to have like a type of heartthrob. Yeah, I'm a bad boy. I love death.
Caitlin  19:38
One of them's, one of them's a rapper.
Kat  19:40
Okay, so we talked a little bit about how we got into it. We talked a little bit about fandoms. And we touched on pairings, do we want to go into pairings at all? Or like our fave characters, or who we think our fave characters will be Before this rewatch?
Cathy  19:54
You know before we do that--Mallory, can you try to tell us what you think this series is about? I'm actually really curious, like before you do a complete viewing, like what? what is what is your understanding of what happens in Gundam Wing?
Mallory  20:08
Um, there's a long interminable war. These boys are recruited by some shadowy government whatever. And they're piloting these mecha. Uugh, I just remember Duo being really annoying.
Caitlin  20:28
[loud gasp] [laughter] [crosstalk] Oh my god.
Mallory  20:29
I mean, not annoying, like, being sort of...
Kat  20:32
Wow.
Mallory  20:33
...the one the pushy one like, he's the challenging one to Heero's "I'm serious and dour." Literally, I have the most broad strokes impressions of what this show is. I just know it looked really fucking cool every time I saw it in, like, a commercial and couldn't watch it.
Cathy  20:55
Fascinating.
Caitlin  20:57
Honestly, even having seen Gundam Wing, I'm not sure I could explain it much better. I don't remember who recruited them.
Mallory  21:03
Okay. Okay, that does make me feel better. Because I was like, Oh, I don't? Do I actually know what the show is? What am I getting myself into?
Caitlin  21:14
There's there's a lot of weird politics.
Mallory  21:17
Well, I'm really excited for that. And I don't mean that sarcastically. Like, I'm really excited to, to see what this world is like, because I remember, like images or impressions. But everything is like out of context. So it'll be cool to see what that context is. Like deja vu? Oh, I remember that. I've seen that in AMV.
Kat  21:48
I remember this from fics that just rewrite scenes from this show.
Mallory  21:55
Yeah, like, what do I know? What do I know of Gundam that is from fanfic only, or is actual canon? I'm curious to figure out.
Kat  22:10
I think everyone's a lot less obnoxious in canon.
Caitlin  22:14
That's true.
Mallory  22:15
Okay, okay.
Caitlin  22:16
This was a this was a really good fandom for the the fandom phenomenon of, you take a character's most, like, annoying trait, and you emphasize it like times 10 in your fanfic.
Cathy  22:28
Yes.
Kat  22:28
Yeah
Caitlin  22:28
Just so everybody knows you know what that character is like.
Kat  22:31
Heero's gonna threaten to kill everybody all the time, constantly.
Caitlin  22:34
"Omae o korosu."
Cathy  22:36
[laughing crosstalk] And so, it's funny that you guys mentioned safe houses, because actually, there are very few safe houses in the original series. In fact, I think there's like maybe one or two scenes ever, where they are all in a safe house provided by one of their allies. And it's a really fascinating trope, because it like pervades the fanfic? But I remember, that I remember was like a big deal, like, I went back and I was like, actually, these people spend very little downtime with each other in the actual series and I find that fascinating.
Kat  23:12
Right? So you have to fill it all in.
Mallory  23:13
Oh, wait, what?
Caitlin  23:14
They actually barely know each other.
Cathy  23:16
Yeah, they truly barely know each other. [crosstalk]
Mallory  23:18
Wait. Oh no, I thought, I thought this was going to be like..
Kat  23:23
[crosstalk] They actually never interact.
Mallory  23:24
we're going to get together and become like a team
Caitlin  23:26
No, no.
Cathy  23:26
Absolutely not,
Caitlin  23:27
They don't fight together; It's 50 episodes of them not interacting.
Cathy  23:31
They, they literally have like, they like, there's probably one or two scenes in which all five of them are on the same battlefield at the same time. And almost every single one of those scenes involves them fighting with each other because like,
Kat  23:44
[crosstalk]Oh, yeah, they fight each other alone.
Cathy  23:45
What's going on? And this was the thing that I'm sure we'll come back to when I came back to this is when I was rewatching. It in college, I realized that of the two people who spend the most time with each other, it's like Trowa and Heero. Because, yes, it is what arc where they actually go on a road trip, which like,
Kat  24:03
it's great. I wrote a thing
Cathy  24:04
like wiped it from my memory when I was thinking about the series, but it really drives home. You know, again, to your point like what of this series do I did I remember that was just from fanfic, and was just what like the fanfic I read very specifically. And so that was one of the things is like, when you come back as an adult, I was like, all of this stuff is so much more interesting to me because like, I actually, like, I don't get me wrong, I still have shipping opinions. But like, I'm older and I have I I'm famous for this. And Kat knows this. I like don't have OTPs. And I'm like not very good about actually being very loyal to pairings. And so as an adult coming back to this, I was like, Oh, this is actually really interesting because the permutations that fandom came up with also came from, like,  non-canon material, because there's a lot of non-canon material, like promotional images that bear no resemblance whatsoever to canon.
Kat  24:54
Okay, I would,  I would call those extra canonical, right?
Caitlin  24:58
No, they're, they're extra canonical, they count in some form.
Kat  25:02
Right? 'Cause they're official.
Cathy  25:04
I guess so. I mean, sure, we'll talk about that as time comes but like.
Caitlin  25:08
Listen, a canon is not just the story. It's the entire media mix around it. It's those, it's those things that you can collect. It's the extra manga. It's Frozen Teardrop,
Cathy  25:18
Like, Gundam Wing actually, I think is one of the few franchises I know where like "pair the spares" was a real merchandising tactic.
Kat  25:26
Yes, it was.
Cathy  25:27
And so, so everybody had somebody... gay, I mean, like, not like,
Kat  25:34
Wufei had two!
Cathy  25:35
They had a gay and a straight interest that they were paired up with. And so, um, so it's like, fascinating to me to come back and be like, actually, the canon is a lot more flexible and interesting than I remembered it.
Caitlin  25:49
The canon for me is like, remarkable in its commitment to not officially putting anyone together. Like it was, it's very good at balancing out all of the different pairings that it wants to support.
Mallory  26:01
Mm hmm.
Caitlin  26:02
Um, it's interesting to see which ones got picked up as the main two in fandom, which for me, were always 1x2 and 3x4 dominated the fandom, because they're both like, friendly, maybe talkative, personable guy and like silent, brooding, weirdo,
Kat  26:22
Warrior.
Caitlin  26:22
What fandom loves! Fandom loves that exact dynamic in every form. And so like, what 1, 1 and 3, were never going to work together because they're both silent and brooding. Fandom was never gonna pick that up. It's too It's too boring. It's not dynamic enough, right?
Mallory  26:37
Like, you can't fight. There's no banter,
Cathy  26:39
Which is actually weird, because if you go back and watch the episodes, you'll see it. Heero actually is not that quiet. And Trowa is like a nutcase. And so
Kat  26:48
they're really funny together,
Cathy  26:49
when they are together, they're actually incredibly dynamic in ways that in fact, the canon doesn't establish 1x2, or 3x4 to be. And so it is really fascinating, because I do agree with Caitlin. What came out of this canon is very different from what I think the show gives. And I don't know the show was like, open minded because it wanted to sell as much merch as possible or
Caitlin  27:13
It's that.
Cathy  27:13
Yeah, so I don't know.
Mallory  27:14
Capitalism.
Kat  27:16
I am gonna say I think the show is a 3x4 shipper. Like I think if the show had a pairing, it would be a three, it would be 3x4, like from my recollections of the show
Mallory  27:26
Yeah
Caitlin  27:26
I always thought that was true. But now
Cathy  27:28
I disagree.
Caitlin  27:29
I feel like I'm gonna go into this and and be like, they never
Kat  27:32
Nobody else has a musical interlude.
Cathy  27:34
But the but the thing is, here's Okay, so not to, like, make this too much about the pairing... But I also think 1x2 and 3x4 become established. I put that in quotes early in the series. And so it becomes entrenched and people assume that that's the pairing. But actually, I just remember so strongly when I went back and rewatched that I was like, there really is not that much evidence for Trowa and Quatre's like instantaneous connection because Quatre has that with almost every other pilot, and Trowa's relationship with Heero is like so much more interesting when I come back to it, even though I definitely think they would never work. They would like killing each other and instead as an adult.
Kat  28:12
And I mean, I love that pairing. And like the one thing that came out of my rewatch a million years ago was I wrote a 1x3 fic cuz I really love those episodes, and fandom didn't do anything with it. But I feel like, I feel like Quatre and Trowa are framed slightly differently than all the other potential pairings so that they could be together.
Cathy  28:33
Even up until Endless Waltz like, I really just feel like that that was an early series thing. And then as you go on into the series, that relationship while still important, was not really emphasized any more or less.
Kat  28:47
But I mean, if it, if it comes out of the gate strong, [laughter] like
Caitlin  28:51
That's all that matters
Kat  28:52
I still think that the show was pushing that one if it pitched. Like if it was giving the most evidence to any one of them, I think the early stuff was really like, ~look at this beautiful pairing.~
Caitlin  29:04
So wait do we all want to, maybe to end this episode, we should all go through and predict what are OTP or pseudo OTP for Cathy will be by the end of this rewatch.
Kat  29:16
But also tell me your fave character because that's what I asked like, 15 minutes ago.
Cathy  29:21
Okay, Kat you first.
Kat  29:23
Oh, well, my favorite character has always been Duo Maxwell. And I'm predicting that he's still going to be my fave character. And I am going to stake my flag on Duo/Wufei, 2x5.
Cathy  29:36
Mallory?
Mallory  29:37
I think from what I remember, I really liked Trowa, I thought Heero was too dour, but I also think that I might relate to him a lot more this time around. So I'm going to say that Heero is going to be my favorite character. And I've always liked...see, I don't know about fandom pairings. I want to say it'll be...well it was Duo/Heero before? No, but I've-- I really like Duo/Wufei so, like, I think that's just always gonna be my Gundam Wing ship.
Cathy  30:20
So when I was a kid watching it my favorite was Duo Maxwell, but I know from my prior rewatching, or attempts to rewatch the series, that as an older person coming into the series, I actually like the girls a lot more, like Relena and Dorothy and Noin became my favorite characters and I did not give them the credit they deserved when I was watching it as a younger person.
Cathy  30:41
I also was 1x2 shipper but again, I know that what I came out of the series really shipping was disastrous Heero/Trowa, and then Duo/Wufei.
Caitlin  30:56
Okay, I see we are all Duo/Wufei fans now.
Kat  30:59
[crosstalk] That's why this is going to be the superior Gundam Wing podcast.
Caitlin  31:02
Yeah. I feel like so, my favorite character when I was originally watching as a kid was Quatre. I think probably because like I always liked like, the friendly blondes in boy bands?
Kat  31:13
That go apeshit?
Caitlin  31:15
When I got older, I was more into Duo and Duo is was probably still my favorite character. I was into Duo/Wufei for a long time. I just think that they are funny together and terrible. And I actually really like Wufei a lot. I sort of admire that fake honor sort of thing. But I, since everybody said Duo/Wufei, I feel like I should say something else, which is that I think that I will get more into 3x4 again after this rewatch, because it's a comforting pairing, in some ways. It's a return. And we're all very full of anxiety right now. [laughter] And so we just need Quatre and stupid, crazy Trowa, you know, having their pure love connection that fandom imagined for them from the beginning.
Kat  32:02
It's real.
Mallory  32:03
I look forward to it.
Cathy  32:04
I do too. I also look forward to hating Treize because that's what happened the last time I rewatched this. He's such a fuck boy.
Kat  32:12
I'm excited to love Dorothy and Relena.
Cathy  32:14
My god, they're so good. Yeah, they're so good. That's what I should have said is my favorite pairing.
Kat  32:20
Fandom definitely ruined me for a little bit, like, "urgh, Relena!"
Caitlin  32:24
When I was a kid, part of the appeal of Gundam Wing fandom was in some ways that it was so sexist, and so I could like act out my own internalized misogyny at the time. And so like, I like I was definitely participating in that of like a group breaking up the boys, whatever. And then in later iterations, I like love Relena. So.
Kat  32:45
Yeah, she was just such an easy reason for them to get together, right? For 1x2, but in the show, she's way more than a plot device. So that was kind of frustrating.
Caitlin  32:56
In the show, she's easily the most one of the most interesting and active characters for sure.
Kat  33:02
As podcast Daddy, I declare Episode Zero officially over. Thank you everyone for your time and catch us in two weeks with Episode One: The boy whose wings killed adolescence.
Caitlin  33:16
Byeeee [laughter]

I was tagged by @hyba and thanks so much for the tag!
1. What scenes are the worst to write?
I’m not sure if this counts, but transitions to really heartfelt or angsty scenes. I’ll write the scene and it’ll be like “yes, much feeling, very good”, but leading up to that? for some reason? is hard? It’s probably because I write the scenes separately and then try to insert them, but still.
2. What can you say is a thing you love most about your writing?
I really love the narration style I’ll use sometimes, in which it goes from really descriptive to blunt, from really removed to really personal. It actually makes reading back enjoyable and funny at times.
3. What is writing advice that you take to heart?
Don’t worry about writing advice and rules until you’ve actually written. First, you need to actually have the content to manipulate and to edit and work on before stressing on whether your pacing is perfect or whether you’re using the passive voice or if you’re telling not showing.
4. How do you keep yourself from quitting writing altogether?
New projects, actually. And breaks. I always have a couple of side WIPs I’m not actively working on but I like to think of, and that always keeps my writing flowing. If I get really frustrated with a project, I take a break from it and focus on another.
5. What is the strangest thing you searched up on the internet for writing purposes?
See here’s the thing. I have a bad memory regarding these things and if something’s weird, I usually go to incognito mode. So there’s a lesser chance of me ever remembering it.
From what I remember: I searched up “deceivement”, certain it was a word, only to realize, twenty minutes later and off the internet, the word I was looking for was “deception.” I legit searched up the definition to boy once, and I have a lot of tree symbolism in my search history.
Yeah. I don’t have a lot of weird things I’ve searched for.
6. Not a question, but shoutout a writeblr (or multiple) that you think needs to hear that they are awesome and doing a great job (by the way everyone, you all are awesome and doing a great job. Keep it up).
Like hyba said before me, there are a lot of writeblrs out there who should hear it. One is @hyba, in fact. I’m not going to mention the ones that were already mentioned (for the sake of giving others a chance), but here’s a list for starters:
@pens-swords-stuff @radley-writes @fiama-l-hernandez @quartzses @lamppostdiaries @wlwwrites @gingerly-writing @thatwritergirlsblog @writernour @ I am so sure that there are more of you but why can’t my brain remember?? @ yeah, all of the writeblrs I’ve met on this site are lovely and deserve a shout out.
7. Your OCs are trapped on a deserted island, what would they be doing?
So I have a lot of OCs. What would probably happen is that they split into their own groups based on familiarity, and the leaders of those groups end up interacting to form a plan to get off the island. If no plan is conceivable, then they would probably form their own country, tbh and live in peace. For the most part.
8. What is your biggest inspiration for your WIPs? (could be a book, other forms of media, your own experiences etc.)
Inspiration really comes from everything, but the two largest sources, for me at least, are my experiences/feelings and songs.
9. A habit you have when it comes to writing?
I tend to write while listening to music and when no one is paying attention to me. Once people notice I actually exist, productivity decreases rapidly.
10. A fact about your world and/or characters?
If you want to be technical, every single WIP I have and will ever have is connected within the same multi (ish) verse. And as I’ve had characters make cameos, it’s entirely possible for crossovers to happen.
11. If your WIP/s got turned into a movie or series, what would be the quote on the promotional poster or trailer?
Ooh. This is hard. For Narrations, I suppose it could be “Words hold power--literally” or just feature the sound of fabric tearing.
So I guess it’s my turn to come up with 11 questions...
What is your favorite thing to write?
How much of what you write is inspired or fueled by real life?
How much of what you write comes from spite? (Or just how your emotions regarding your life or situations influence your writing)
What is advice that you would give a younger, just beginning to write, version of you?
Do you work better on paper or online for writing/development? Or a mix of the two?
Where do you get support for your writing?
How do you balance writing and school/work/whatever else comes in the way?
Choose an OC. What meme or vine do you think best represents them?
Was there an author that inspired or influenced your writing? If so, who was it and how did they influence you?
What is your favorite writing platform? (For example, Google Docs, Word, Scrivener, etc.)
What’s the thing you least like about writing?
All right, I’m going to be tagging @rainy-rose @amaranthine-inscriptions @blueinkblot @writernour @anyone else really

2018 in review...
What a year. I’m honestly baffled at how... LONG and eventful 2018 was. People really aren’t joking when they say it felt like forever.
And I can see why, with all of the many, many things that happened. Many, major things. So to celebrate the end of 2018, which I consider to be one of the better years of my life... I really just want to review, in as close to chronological order, all of the major things I remembered and enjoyed;
There was me wrapping up Pokemon Ultra Moon.
I also began to finish Super Mario Odyssey, as well as Mario Kart for the Switch.
I watched the Greatest Showman, which was amazing.
There were the memes, of course. Ugandan Knuckles, Tide Pod challenge, Spaghet...
I began writing a personal, original story of mine and felt for the first time in a long while the simple joy of writing and the imagination that comes with it...
I tried Super Chix for the first time.
Shortly after I got my braces, which was genuinely painful.
Black Panther came out and was a MASSIVE success as the ninth highest grossing film of all time.
I watched my first new season of Voltron, Season 5. I’d also like to point out that the latter half of the entire show aired this year. All of it, from Lotor to Sendak to Adam’s rushed death to the disappointing finale. Yet I still enjoyed the show, by the end of the day.
The first Aru Shah book came out and I enjoyed that immensely.
Kirby Star Allies has its initial release, as well as the release of its DLC, this year. A VERY satisfying game with plenty of new lore for the series, as well as certain characters returning and being playable.
I got introduced due to Heathers the Musical, and later got interested in Hamilton and Wicked.
Infinity War, my most anticipated film of ALL time. I legit bought reserved seating for it ASAP upon the release of the second trailer. The film was amazing and somehow exceeded my wildest expectations... and then there’s the cultural impact, from the memes, the quotes, the mutual tragedy, all of it. Cinema history.
Trials of Apollo: The Burning Maze was released. RIP
I achieved a personal fitness record by jogging for about an hour and a half, my longest time yet- and I continued to do that every once in a while.
There was the many, many Steven bombs... we got Emerald, a Lapis Lazuli song, and of course the Pink Diamond reveal... THAT messed me up. Then the aftermath, including the return of Bismuth, the Diamond attack, Nephrite, as well as White Diamond and her pearl.
I rekindled my interest in Bionicle, and went back to doing drawings and creating lore for a hypothetical rewrite of G2.
There was the beauty that was Ninjago: Sons of Garmadon, as well as Harumi. Up there with Tournament of Elements as the best seasons of all. Harumi is one of my favorite characters now, as is Faith.
I saw the trailer for Hazbin Hotel and got hooked onto the series, and have since followed its numerous updates, including clips of the show.
I got reinterested in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and completed it after years in my ownership. Then I got Explorers of Time, but I’ve dropped that. I’ll finish it next year.
Solo: A Stars Wars story was surprisingly enjoyable and inspired me creatively.
I went to Florida again and had a great time at Crab Island. I revisited New York a second time, and I’m still surprised by how much I enjoy just the atmosphere of being there.
There was E3, with all of the game announcements. Me following up excitedly on Smash Bros Ultimate, the directs, the character reveals, the memes... and of course me playing the game on release day.
I’m still hyped for the Resident Evil 2 remake.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom came out with the Indoraptor, one of my favorite monsters of all time now. There was also Incredibles 2, something we’ve waited for for over a decade. And after that, Ant Man and the Wasp.
I got interested in the Metroid Series, and have played Fusion, Zero Mission, and Samus Returns. I have yet to give Super Metroid or the Prime series a try.
Speaking of games, I enjoyed Warioware Gold. I also got my aunt’s old NES and some classic cakes like Mario and Zelda.
I read Poisonwood Bible. I dressed up as something different for Halloween for the first time in years- A Plague Doctor.
There was also a lot of depressing deaths... Stefan Karl Steffanson. Stephen Hawking, Stan Lee, Stephen Hillenburg. All of their names started with ST and I will continue to cherish all of them.
I also discovered Tumblr for the first time and have since been riding the highs and lows of this hellhole. I’ve made posts and a few have gone past 100 notes, which is neat.
I worked on my drawing skills and did a personal major accomplishment on a piece.
I watched Venom and enjoyed it WAY more than I ever expected myself to. Like, WAY more.
The Castlevania Netflix series had its second season, and I began and finished both seasons in a day.
Speaking of Netflix, Hilda was amazing, as well as She-Ra, and Dragon Prince.
Thanksgiving Break, I watched both Fantastic Beasts movies back-to-back, first at home and then in the cinema.
I went Black Friday shopping for the first time ever.
All of the splendid movies that came out in December, including Into the Spiderverse, Bumblebee, and Aqua Man- another film I enjoyed a lot more than I did. Not as much as Venom, but still.
For Christmas, I had SEVERAL back-to-back feasts, lunches and dinners, eating out and/or eating big at someone else’s home, or my home. I really need to burn off the fat.
I got a Zoku Slush maker and experimented with that with varying degrees of success.
AAAAND that’s about it. I watched the New Year’s countdown for New York, like every year, with my family.
It’s been quite a wild ride, and one of the craziest years I’ve ever experienced. And yet, looking back...
I wouldn’t change a thing.
Happy New Years, everyone. Goodbye to a beloved 2018, and hello to new hopes for 2019!

Recommendations for the soul
omg, it’s been ages since I posted something. When I started this I said to myself, ‘right, now that school has finished, I have all the time in the world to write posts and keep up to date with posting regularly, maybe post 2-3 times a week!.’ yeah, no. that did not happen. Instead, I spent my time watching Netflix, TV shows mostly but the occasional film. So today, I am going to share TV shows that I watch currently or have watched in the past that I highly recommend.
ALL OF THESE SHOWS ARE ON UK NETFLIX APART FROM MODERN FAMILY.
TV shows
Pretty Little Liars - this show is known by basically everyone. For those who may not know about it, it has a good variety of genres, mystery, romance, thriller, crime, comedy. I think this show is one that would be described as ‘a girl’s show’, the beginning is a but teen and awkward acting, but when I started watching it, I did not care. People get hooked on it so fast and it is so enticing, however, like the summer of 2014, I binge watched it the whole of summer and I did get pretty sick of it as it got quite predictable at times, but give it time and damn. Pll has officially finished now but it is still a great watch for anyone who likes any genre.
Orphan Black - this show is v hard to explain. Click for the trailer. It’s about clones, so Tatiana Maslany (the actress of all the clones) is a goddess, and how they are trying to find out who made them and why they are being hunted. I fell in love with all thr characters so easily and it is very hard to stop watching. It can be quite grusome and explicit at times but it just adds to the story. It genuinely is really hard to explain without giving too much away, so watch the trailer and if you’re interested, watch the first episode and I guarentee that you will want episode 2. If you watch this, attention is needed like a lot, because they refer back to things in season 4 that happened in season 2. But super duper worth the work.
Friends - now this is the most classic comedy, romance, drama show ever. If you don’t know what it is then you have not lived, and when you do watch it, you’ll finally understand all those jokes your friends made and all the quotes on memes you’ve seen.WATCH IT. Even if you’ve already watched it a thousand times before, watch it again, and again, and again.
The Big Bang Theory - I would say that the set up of this show is similar to Friends, a solid group of friends, a well known apartment, a regular meet up place etc. So if you’re into chilled shows with comedy and science, this will tick your boxes.
Bates Motel - drama, mystery, thriller, crime, romance, this is what will be found at the Bates Motel. This show is based off the classic thriller film, Psycho. It has been majorly spread out over like 3 seasons, but it shows Norman Bates before the ending of the film. It shows how his mental health showly gets worse and when it started and why etc. With the addition of his brother, Dylan, and friend, Emma, the audience can really connect with Norman and Norma as their lives are shown. It’s quite haunting as Norman is cray cray for taxidermy, but I got used to it quite quickly. A good watch, but needs attention as I forgot things that they mention like season 1.
Teen Wolf - i find this show really enjoyable, the first couple of seasons are... they aren’t slow, but it’s just all quite basic, like ‘oh look, another fight. yep, he’s a wolf too, cool.’ but it is still amazing. It starts to pick up at season 3, season 4 is kinda like ‘how they gonna fix this mess?’, season 5 is like ‘woah, there’s a shit load of new creatures, like damn.’ and season 6 (final season) is like ‘well shit. there is now way they are fixing this mess.’ It is all incredible and all the actors and actresses are pretty sweet (on the eyes). Comedy is included, and it will make you cry at some point.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine - similar set up to The Big Bang theory and Friends as being a sit-com, it is really enjoyable, i am currently watching it for the third time. Each episode is like a different scenario, i know thats the same with every show but this show is about cops and each episode is a different case. The characters are awesome and the actors play their parts so well. Comedy is the #1 genre, but there is drama and mystery (some). It for real is hilarious though! watch watch watch.
Modern Family - this show is seriously the best, just having all the different connections with each character and the diversity. I love it so much. It’s like a scripted reality show, there isn’t much I can say about it as it doesn’t really have a plot line, it’s just one huge family each with their own story. 100 percent, watch.
Parks and Recreation - similar to Modern Family in the sense of the filming technique, the characters look at the camera and they have interviews. Again is so funny and amazing and there’s just all humour types for everybody. Also, everyone will love Ron Swanson. (Sidenote: Chris Pratt stars in it which might intice a few).
Those are the main shows that I’ve watched before that I loved the most, but I am going to label some editional ones quickly that can’t go unmentioned.
13 Reasons Why - this heartbreaking show about a girl who commits suicide tells her story of what led to her decision. like srsly, your heart will melt.
Merlin - based in Camelot with Prince/King Arthur and the Knights of the round table, this show is legit, all about the magic. Main character is Merlin who has to keep his magic a secret from the royal family as it is against the law, and punishable by death, Slight hiccup, he is a servant for Arthur. Humour, romance, drama, fantasy, mystery.
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air - this show is so hilarious, the personality of Will is amazing and something that I think a small part of everyone can relate to. A great chilled out watch for people who love old shows.
H20: Just Add Water - now i know this is a ‘childs’ show, and i did watch it in my childhood, but because it wasn’t when I was like 2, I remembered it and have re-watched it since. It’s basically about three girls that get turned into mermaids and have to keep it a secret from everyone they know, one problem, they can’t touch water. #dilemma
Sherlock - this show is amazing! i cannot stress enough how good this is. I haven’t watched it in ages because it finished, but it’s just Sherlock Holmes being savage af and solving crimes in the process. Mystery, drame, thriller, comedy, romance, oh hell no moments, Benedict Cumberbatch. It is the whole package.
iZombie - I have been a dedicated watcher of this show for ages, and i love season 1 and 2, but season 3 just didn’t do it for me. It got a bit too confusing and lost what they had is the first seasons. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the last episode of season 2 i was like ‘omg damn, what’s gonna happen now, this is such a cliffhanger omg i must know’ and then i googled when the next season was out, but now that the third and final season has finished i’m kinda like ‘hmm, i think i would’ve been okay leaving at season 2′. So i highly recommend season 1 and 2 for sure.
Now I’m just gonna write titles of shows that should definately be watched by everyone ever
Bad Education - comedy based in a british secondary school with Jack Whitehall as the main character (so you know it’s gonna be good).
Santa Clarita Diet - a woman becomes a zombie and tried to figure out how to deal with it, comedy, drama, mystery.
Outnumbered - sit-com about a british family of three children with the two parents that are now, outnumbered.
Scream - 100 percent mystery, thriller, crime, horror. best thing to ever happen ever and total shocker. Based off the classic film, Scream.
American Horror Story - I’ve only watched season 1, 2 and 3 (Murder House, Asylum and Coven), i really enjoyed them and have re-watched them. Can be really creepy and weird, would not recommend watching in the dark.
Big School - sit-com in a british school, David Walliams stars as the weird teacher trying to date the new French teacher.
Once Upon a Time - literally combines every fairytale, classic novel etc. i really enjoyed it but i couldn’t bulk binge watch it as it would annoy me as it got somewhat predictable. #lol
Miranda - best little show ever, a woman living in Surrey trying to figure her life out. Comedian plays the role of Miranda and shows how i think everyone whats to live.
How I Met Your Mother - a show similar to Friends and The Big Bang Theory, Ted narrates each season to his children telling the story of how he met thier mother and the years before. I would definately recommend as there is a major plot twist on the very last episode that will make you super happy but also super sad.
Riverdale - this awesome show is about a murder that everyone gradually forgets about and then at the end is like ‘oh yea’, there is only one season so far with a gripping finishing episode. but another is coming soon. it looks like it’s set in the 80′s-90′s if they had iPhone 7′s. totally worth the watch.
The Wrong Man’s - a british comedy show written and produced by James Corden. two men are in the wrong place at the wrong time and their lives slowly but surely, fall apart. might watch again soon actually.
Now i’m finally done. I’ve genuinely just listed every tv show i’ve every watched. I of course love The Simpsons and Futurama, but I thought people would want to hear more about tv shows that aren’t cartoons... ya know.
I hope this helped anyone with their tough decision of what to watch next, and it’s summer now so there’s plenty of time.

Kevin Cage of @spotlightsaga reviews... Dear White People (S01E01) Chapter 1 Airdate: April 28, 2017 @netflix @JSim07 Ratings: Privatized @DearWhitePeople Score: 7.5/10 TVTime/FB/Twitter/IG/Tumblr/Path/Pin: @SpotlightSaga **********SPOILERS BELOW********** Dear White People, Brown People, and any People who are reading, listening, watching, or paying attention... Eventually it was coming. Eventually this series had to be addressed. But how? The last thing a Sexually Fluid, White Scotch-Irish, Ginger Male in an 11 year+ gay relationship, living in an Argentinian neighborhood within a city that has massive pockets of square miles with +80% people who speak Spanish as a first language... Or large numbers of neighborhoods with Haitian-Creole voices blasting loudly from friendly faces throwing friendly waves from a group of old men, who for some reason are always sitting at a major bus stop in North Miami Beach (but never going anywhere or taking any busses), wants to be labeled as is a 'Pseudo' or even a 'Hardcore-Leftist' who's desperately out to prove that he isn't racist. You won't be getting that article from me. You won't be getting anything of the sort from this 10-Piece Project that I assure you I will be taking my time on. I am not Left. I am not right. I'm barely in the middle. This isn't political, though it might have political undertones and repercussions. That's on interpretation, not me. By now you know that Spotlight Saga never reviews anything in a traditional manner unless it's an everyday type series that doesn't carry a particular tense or emotional impact. We go at our own pace and I prefer existential challenges, but all are welcome. I had made promises to write articles to accompany 'Dear White People', brought to us by the new & true, multitalented Justin Simien, to multiple readers, but I was waiting for the right time. Sure, I have an army of unreleased articles and reviews ready to shoot out of an iOS cannon when I'm not feeling particularly inspired, but that just hasn't happened lately, so expect last second 'Big 4 Network' reviews to start spewing out sometime in September, because everything from 'Gotham' to 'Lucifer' to 'Colony' awaits you. Oh boy. Now let's get something straight, particularly to the people on Social Media whining and crying about the show's polarizing title, claiming to cancel (or to the ones who actually did cancel, though I doubt it) their Netflix subscriptions because the title evoked some sort of feeling of uncomfortable paranoia, or what they felt was divisive rhetoric, even though it was them who were attempting to divide themselves from Netflix and causing a stir... Ultimately giving the show free promotion in the process. DWP isn't a series that is out to make anyone feel shame, wagging a brown finger across your noses, or smacking you over the top of the head with a rolled up newspaper, preferably Sunday (because there are some people who actually deserve it). The show's main protagonist narrates the thoughts of Justin Simien directly and quite accurately, right off the bat. "Dear White People is a misnomer. My show is meant to articulate the feelings of a misrepresented group outside the majority." @jsouth71 on Twitter, one of many racist, idiot keyboard warriors (I'm personally singling out him because he no longer seems to be active - guess he came, he typed, and he successfully looked like an idiot), responded to the original trailer (legit on March 12, 2017, the show didn't even air until April 28th) with multiple hashtags claiming that Netflix was racist. His most hilarious claim (to me anyway) is the one claiming that the show, what it stands for, and those that support it are all full of #LiberalBS. Well what now, Joey Southworth? I'm not even Liberal, Black, or some sort of seemingly desperate apologist... I have no agenda, except to review a Netflix TV Series in a way like no one has ever done before and while doing so, tell you all MY story, my letter to White People, because there is one thing I won't do... Tell someone else's truth... Unless they ask me to, I am for hire, y'all. Ironically, Lionel (DeRon Horton), says something eerily similar to what I've just said and said before a million times. Some people, *coughAVCLUBcough*, don't understand that telling someone else's 'truth' isn't necessarily the point of journalism, but sometimes it does involve telling another person's story from your OWN perspective, after a little help from gaining a bit of someone else's. So let's kick this thing off, shall we? It's going to be a doozy! Samantha White aka Sam (Logan Browning - ah, yes we see the ironic juxtaposition of those names already, especially since the character is biracial) attends an Ivy League school called Winchester University and hosts a radio show on campus called 'Dear White People'. As the aforementioned quote pulled directly from Sam's mouth would suggest, she really just wants to be a voice not normally heard without some sort of filter or applied lens to trickle out what people feel safe with. Sam isn't prejudice or even remotely a bigot, she doesn't seem to be whatsoever. As a matter of fact, Sam's reactions to environmental stimuli and certain situations remind me of me. She is shown often attempting to pull back when faced with a possibility of reacting off of an emotion, but when that emotion becomes overwhelming, she caves and takes control by spiraling out of control. There is a blackface party on campus and it is quickly revealed by the end of the episode that the campus crew, Pastiche, had their Facebook hacked and invites were sent out after the school's administration had already shut down the idea of the party even going forward. Did Sam send it? Please remember we're talking E1, and I don't go beyond that. She claims to have sent the email in an emotionally provocative, genuinely stirring speech she delivers after her radio show is pushed to the sidelines. She had shown up for her time slot and someone else had taken her place due to the recent controversy. This all forces Sam to make a split, snap decision, overthrowing the DJ booth like a straight up BOSS... A prime example of what I mean when I say she 'takes control by spiraling out'. Sam is also seen videotaping the party and later editing & going over the footage. So far, 2+2=4, but if she did indeed do what she said she did, then she's not the only one playing games to prove a point. She's outed to have a white boyfriend, Gabe (John Patrick Amedori), who she seems to genuinely like and in turn he is definitely enamored with her. Yes, by the way, one can be racist and have a significant other of an alternate race (as we covered in an article in S2 of the E4 & Netflix series 'Chewing Gum' after talking with and interviewing several women of color from the Caribbean)... Thats related to the fetishization or perversion of race, skin color, or anything of the like, but that isn't what it looks like what is going on here. There's definitely some real life chemistry brewing. Of course, some of Sam's peers look at her with disdain after Gabe puts their ongoing, once secret relationship on blast with an Instagram pic and a hashtag... Amazing what hashtags are capable of these days, ammirite? Well, in this case it's less the hashtag and more of the 'tagging' of the pic done by Sam's arch nemesis, Coco (Antoinette Robinson - who my white, CW loving ass recognizes from the God-awful 3rd season of 'Hart of Dixie', yeah I see you, Lavon's Niece!)... All of this confusion and animosity is what Coco wanted but this isn't what she necessarily got, not in the exact form she was aiming for, at least. Here comes the fun part! Through self-reflection and talks with her best friend, Joelle (Ashley Blaine Featherson), Sam realizes she does in fact like Gabe and decides to embrace the couple's outing... Bringing him along to her usually, black only, weekly viewing of 'Defamation', a hilarious satire of Shonda Rhimes' (who might just answer this cheeky mockery, since she just scored herself a Netflix contract) ABC political thriller, or just plain dumbed down (sorry Rhimes' fans) version of 'Scandal' (as if it could go any lower). Ouch! Anyway, according to Sam, 'Defamation Wednesdays' are the cornerstone of black college campus life.' It's just that, well, Gabe is obviously feeling a bit 'fish out of water'... Come on, white people, think about how you feel when you are the only white person in the room, you get it right? Well, that's more than likely how your good friend of color feels when you invite them out and they are the only black person to show up at your Baby Shower, Birthday Party, 'Girls Night Out', whatever the event may be. It takes time. It's admirable that Gabe came, it truly is, but this isn't exactly the same situation that I used for environmental comparisons. Sam has a show called 'Dear White People' for Christ Sake, she has an obligation to stick to her guns, sure... But love is love, and as long as there is no perversion of skin going on, who the fuck cares? Mind your mother fucking own! Oh, but that's a tale as old as time, people just love to give no fucks about this or that, while simultaneously giving all kinds of fucks about who someone lays next to at night. I can attest to both of these things, or some version of it, at least... As I live in a part of the States where I'm the only white guy that's not a Euro-Tourist in an incredibly wide radius, also being in a gay relationship, I get quite a few double takes... And the giant Red Beard doesn't help. Yet, I've come to a point where I've been here so long and become so accustomed to a different environment, being amongst other white people makes me a tad uncomfortable. More on that another episode, another day. Reggie (Marque Richardson) isn't too happy about Gabe's presence at the 'Defamation' viewing party... I'm guessing it's a lot less because he's white and a lot more because Reggie feels like he should be the one holding Sam's hand. Reggie comes off as a bit of a jackass, then again, Gabe is not only encroaching on what appears to be Reggie's love interest, but he's also aggressively inserting himself into the group. It's not that Reggie, or most of Sam's friends and acquaintances are prejudice of intolerant, quite the opposite, really. It actually seems more like a 'too much, too soon' situation. Take race out of the equation for a second, take out that fact that Sam's ideals are being broadcasted over the radio, representing a whole lot of people. EVERYONE eyes the 'new' guy or gal in a group, especially if that new person is also a new significant other, I don't care who you are. It's always best to sit back, shut your mouth, and let people come to you... Not stick out your hand and affirm loudly that, 'Hi, I'm Gabe, and I'll be taking a prominent role here now, whether you like it or not.' I love the fact that just like we all have a long way to go as a society when it comes to understanding where everyone is coming from, why people feel what they feel, so do the characters of 'Dear White People', all of them... Black, White, and everyone in between... Especially the girl in between! Yes, it appears that Sam is telling the truth in her guerrilla takeover, emotionally charged, campus wide, broadcasted admission... And if she wasn't she appears very much ready to to take both the praise & the heat (something not yet shown in E1) that she was the one who hacked the Pastiche Facebook and sent out the invites, encouraging the culturally ignorant to show up in Blackface and other embarrassingly idiotic, culture appropriated, misfortunes of human error to a party that had already been given the axe... But the show is still playful in its righteous delivery. The narrator (Giancarlo Esposito) points out a white girl and guesses that she's in a Nicki Minaj costume... Later on, while in her feelings, Sam quickly switches her music from a soft, feminine country crooning track, Suzanna Spring's 'Some Blue Sky' to 'Black' by 'Innanet James' on her way to the radio station when passing a group of Black acquaintances... It's ok to laugh, it's ok to point out the confusing parts of a sliding identity. It's ok to be who you are as long as you are true to whoever that is... Unless your a fucking hateful asshole, then Fuck You. *Somebody cue a 'Run The Jewels' track, please* *********Written By: Kevin Cage********** http://www.tvtime.com http://www.facebook.com/spotlightsaga http://www.spotlightsaga.com http://www.facebook.com/groups/artsentertainment

Sherlock Holmes 2013, real talk
Now that the Vague(tm) post is up, I can finally have a real talk between us pals and gals, which is still the same, but now is full of spoilers and has no advertisement value to it. It's been three years now or so, and I still have to talk in riddles all the time, it gets quite tiring, I want to actually discuss stuff.
So here we go, real talk mode on, let's slap some pic before the cut so it would look nice or whatever.
Tumblr media
So, let's start with that list I made during the first episode, the top list of episodes. Let's see what I think now: I'm lost. I don't know, it’s been many times when I just wanted to put several of them on one place, because I can't just say "yeah that's the best one full stop nothing is as good as this one ever" because it's certainly not true. I don't think I can make a list now, I can certainly swap it with top-middle-bottom kinda line.
1. Rock, Paper, Scissors/Halifax/Baskerville Hound
These are the top percentile that I really struggle to put on places, all three are great in their own way, none of those is worse than the others.
2. The Mistresses of Lord Maulbrey/The Musgrave Ritual
They're not my best choice, but these are enjoyable and in no sense bad, or even average or whatever. The Ritual is very fun and I love it, but it's a standalone episode that doesn't tie into anything, so it kinda automatically loses importance points on that.
3. 221B Baker Street/Clowns
These go into the average territory, they have their moments, but I don't enjoy them as much. I still think the first episode has little to offer, and I'm still not sure exactly why I think the third one was not this good. Irene Adler, probably.
4. Holmes' Last Case
That's the only one that is legitimately bad in my opinion, I was never fond of it and I'm still not.
So, the fandom of this show is basically non-existent, that happened, it never managed to set off, all that, no rocket science for anyone involved. If somebody does post a thing about the series, it's mostly gifs, or art, or other pictures, so mostly graphic kind of content. That is not bad in the slightest, it's just that nobody actually shares any thoughts here, or pretty much anywhere else across all the platforms I'm on. So what I'm saying is, with the total lack of other opinion, I sometimes feel like what I'm saying about this series misses everyone else's thoughts by a good mile. Does everyone else go as deep as I do sometimes with all that analysis stuff? Does anyone actually consider the plot, artistic decisions, context and so forth? I've honestly no idea. Does it sound absurd to everyone, or ass pull-y? Everyone keeps saying it's good, but they never say why, but then again, there's no side content like *chokes* j0hnl*ck, and the series pretty much gives you no choice but to focus on its plot and other quality material. I don't know, honestly, if you guise are up for some fandom contribution, those kind of answers would be nice. Even if it does turn out that nobody ever gave a shit as much as I did, I would still stand by my points till I evaporate. Yes, I think the show's biggest strengths are its plot, characterisation and the subtext. Can't make a pretty gifset out of that, can you.
When I’ve just finished the show when it first aired, I already thought that the plot was quite neat, but boy oh boy I had no idea what it actually was like. I keep saying re-watch the show because a lot of mindblowing stuff will float, but now that I think about it, all that stuff totally relates to Moriarty. I think the cabman reveal is the biggest one out of the bunch, and again, it’s all about Moriarty. I hope he’s appreciated, he’s not only scary, but he’s a legit genius that’s been there all along and nobody had any idea. Other than that, there are many minor details that are either foreshadowing, tiny Chekhov’s guns or points that finally piece together now that you know the whole plot. All of that comes from one of the ideas of the show that you see just as much as the heroes do and it’s up to you to interpret and pay attention to that information. And yeah, I do think it works quite nicely, if it’s related to the main Moriarty case, then I’ll assure you all the answers are already there in the episodes. Well, there are other details too, but sometimes they’re total asspulls, like that frog poison, it’s completely made up, but it doesn’t serve any actual relevance so nobody cares.
I don’t really know what kind of canon continuity this show follows, it does establish that the Study goes through first, but then it’s just all over the place. “Never write about Irene Adler” oops shit outta luck buddy that was literally my first story after the Study came out tough shit tough shit. I don’t know, really. The parallels are kind of hard to draw when the canon is scattered in bits and pieces across the series. There’s my Sholto interpretation, of course, but that’s just about it, because the second episode is pretty much the only one that focuses on one canon story. But there are a few details I noticed and forgot to mention as always:
If you follow Watson’s narrative only, it’s pretty clear a point about the canon asspull Moriarty that just kind of appeared out of nowhere was made: in the course of the series, Watson has indeed never seen Moriarty in person. Disguise? Of course, even Lestrade did, but never in person. Lampshaded by the show itself when a few characters said that Moriarty sounds more fictitious than anything else.
Real life rumor parallels? After Holmes “died” England was raging so hard the queen herself was said to allegedly write a letter to ACD asking him to revive the character. The show: Holmes is dead, the queen pays a visit to his creator, Holmes suddenly comes back to life. I think that sounds pretty neat.
Nothing to do with the canon, but the whole premise of the last episode - a literal race against the clock, anybody? That’s not even a thing in Russian, this expression, but that still sounds neat in my book.
So, apart from all of that, acting, right? This series revived my faith in the Russian scene, I know there are loads of talented actors out there, they just don’t have the right material to work with. Here, I think, everyone had a blast, that is a quality show with a very enjoyable script, no matter what Russians think *hiss*. I mean yeah, if Kavun actually gave them freedom to work on their characters, of course that usually does a great job. I’m pretty sure someday I would be able to write a whole paper on Holmes’ character, because he’s so consistent in his quirks and behaviour, that was a character extremely well thought out by Petrenko: he thought of his walk, manners, gestures, sounds, everything. After examining that for a while, it takes less than a second to tell him and his brother apart, you just know the guy so well by this point.
Then, of course, Panin, Boyarsky, all the other secondary actors, I think these guys were praised a lot of times without me. I’ll tell ya I was actually surprised when exclamations about “PANIN IS THE BEST WATSON!!” started popping up, I mean of course I knew he was amazing, but I would’ve never dared to think it would be on that level. My pride is Howard Ostrom’s opinion that not only Panin is his favorite Watson, but also Boyarsky is his all-time favorite Lestrade. I’m never worried about Panin in this series because he always gets his praise, but I do care about Boyarsky’s mostly underappreciated work here, and man this feels good. I mean yeah I totally get why he’s dislikeable as a character, but I have dreams, Harold, he’s so freaking good in my opinion.
Then there’s Sholto and oh boy this is bad that I like him, isn’t it. He’s very charismatic, that’s all I can say, but mention one thing wrong and a shitshow will follow. Well, it won’t, nobody watches this series, but still. Can’t really dedicate gifsets to this guy either, especially not putting any quotes up. But you can’t deny his speech was so great in a wrong way. Then there’s Red, Halifax, and many very minor characters that I all like, they deserve some credit.
That’s what I always considered the main issue about advertising this show, it’s just very hard to do the normal way. That’s why the trailer was not met well, it looked like nothing, some RDJ ripoff, lots of pointless action. But what can you show otherwise, all the things that make this show great cannot be captured by some sort of out of context gifset or an action compilation. How can you show a great plot and gradual character development in a trailer? All the context that piles up to make the series awesome? I really think you can only understand why this show is good is only when you actually see it, like I can’t really pinpoint why exactly, its strengths are not visual. Kinda like the BBC, quite hard to gif the show’s format for everyone to appreciate, that has to be experienced. That’s why I’m not exactly a fan of all those pretentious Petrenko gifs and Watson’s faces: of course they look neat, but that really cheapens the show out of context in my eyes. Watson’s faces are great because like 75% of those were in the background and you wouldn’t even notice them the first time on the grand scale, so to say. As a clueless gifset, it’s just a dude making faces. That’s not what this show is about. But if it helps to attract people, then there’s nothing else I can do, I will continue making those, but there’s barely anything special about that, every fandom does better things. And this show is special, you know it is, it’s very unique but by the fucking god this is so hard to capture for advertisement purposes.
I am of course extremely clueless when it comes to other adaptations, so I found everything in this show unique and I don’t know how true that is. Apparently the second RDJ movie is like 70% identical to the third episode, or other way round, and I even kinda doubt that the series did not peek there at any point in time. And I felt the third episode the first time round, and it was so unique to me and shit, but apparently fuckity not. Despite that, I still think it’s great because it’s special. I personally love the gritty reality set up, the very blunt way of addressing very sensitive issues Russian-style, love how the plot works out, love Moriarty, I love digging into the details and find out that these were all intentional in my opinion. I like this show because we’re kinda on the same wavelength there, I pick up plot points, emotions and all that pretty fast and never wondered a thing, everything pieces together nicely and I always understood the show like it’s my own kid. Does anybody else have that kind of relationship with this show? I just kind of assumed everybody did.
Well, the marathon goes on, I really hope it won’t be the last time I actually get an opportunity to talk. Hope it was interesting to an extent, no one else ever actually discussed the episodes beyond just re-telling the plot, and I thought that you know, pretty sure I’m kinda the authority on this business now, I can burp some things out.
So to summarise, yes, quality stuff, and if I talk about it, I always talk deep, admiring faces or other shallow things is not my area.

The Entire Saga That Led To Final Fantasy VII Remake
Final Fantasy 7 - The PlayStation Masterpiece
Over the past few years, I've written a lot about video games, covering the latest releases, retro themes and every now & then I tackle a rumor. But if there's one thing I thought I would never write about, it would be Final Fantasy VII Remake. That was legit, no rumor break down, no trail to find the original source, ect. No, today - which I can hardly believe, I'm going to talk about a title that's been nothing more than a pipe dream for over 10 years now.
At the previous 2015 E3 showing,  on June 15th, Sony unveiled a trailer that no one could hardly believe. After over a decade of various rumors, misleading tech demos and he said she said fiasco's, Final Fantasy VII Remake is real and it's happening. While like so many others, I was jumping out of my chair, then quickly went to YouTube to see everyone else reaction. My oh my were they golden. Parents cursing in front of children, grown men crying, people jumping back out of their chairs, even a few started break dancing.
Though, there was one thing I couldn't help but notice, you could read in the comments or even overhear on the various voice chats, other people asking "What is this about? What's Final Fantasy VII?, Can someone explain to me why people are going crazy?". Now for me, being an avid gamer, it all seemed clear as day, but for so many Gamers, old or new, the whole crazy for FF7 remake probably does appear foreign to them.
Honestly, I don't blame anyone for not understanding, since Square-Enix literally has so many Final Fantasy titles that they could remake into a full blown Next-Gen game, it does make some ask, why Final Fantasy VII? Hell, it also released almost 20 years ago. Not surprised many were asking questions.
Well, you came to the right place, I'm going to break it all down, without ever diving too deep in the rabbit hole that I lose you. I'll lay it all out, nice and plainly why Final Fantasy VII Remake is a Unicorn that turned out to be real, and has been teased for a very long time.
So what's so special about FF7?
Excellent question. Final Fantasy 7 is one of those few titles that captures a platform theme perfectly. Back in 1997 Final Fantasy 7 made its original debut on the PlayStation 1. Why is this significant to know? Simple - this was the first major FF title to ever release on a system outside Nintendo. This was pretty big news for Square-Soft at the time, made the decision to step away from Nintendo 64 platform and venture to the PlayStation, however it wasn't all by choice. Final Fantasy VII was considered a highly advance title that wouldn't be possible to run on the N64. The PlayStation 1 was the only system with the chops that would be able to run it.
Also, FF7 was hella expensive to develop. Sources claiming the title cost around $45 Million dollars to develop, which was pretty much unheard of back then. Even by today's standards $45 million is a lot of cash for a title. Final Fantasy 7 also had a lot of first for the Final Fantasy franchise, such as CGI cut-scenes, multiple disk, and characters making apperences in other titles besides the famous Cid.
Basically, Square-Soft released an incredibly expensive title, on a new system, using 3D graphics, that would pretty much make or break the company. And as we all know, Final Fantasy VII was a masterpiece, it sold bajjilions of copies, and really started to build a strong image with the PlayStation brand, that had FFVIII and FFIX follow after its release.
So why did everyone want a remake?
Ohhh, great, Great question there. While FF7 is considered a phenomenal title, people would argue titles like FF4 or FF6 would be a better title to go with, even FFIX has a strong following. So why is there such a large group of people riding on constant hopes and prayers for a FF7 remake?  To sum up a loooong story, Square-Enix has kind of been teasing the idea about it for a very long time.
Of course, besides the fact that FF7 is such a moving and enjoyable game, Square-Enix has had a long history of branching off the FF7 franchise and constantly giving a possible hint, a FF7 title could happen.
The first time my ears ever heard of a new possible FFVII title was in the works goes way back to 2003. The first tidbit that ever appeared was from a game magazine, when people used to read them, featured in the rumor section, was a small snip-it in the article mentioning there's a possibility of seeing a lot more of FF7 in the coming months. Everyone had their own take what Square could be up to, but best I could remember, that was where the first mention to my knowledge of a remake of FF7 could be possible.
Now you have to remember, back then, there was no YouTube, IGN wasn't the behemoth it is today, and there wasn't Game expos going off every month. The best way you found any news or wanting to look up details on a rumor was from Neogaf or Gamefaqs. That was it. Also Square-Enix still had several odd practices when it came to releasing information, such as their famous closed door theaters when showing off footage. So unless you were literally in Japan, months could go by before you learn about anything state side.
Later that year the world would learn that Square-Enix was kicking off a new project dubbed the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII were three new Final Fantasy VII projects in the works. One was a new film, titled Advent Children, which not much was known besides the fact it would take place in the FF7 universe and showed a few shots, like Barrett flexing his arm, showing off his cannon. Most people speculated that this was Square-Enix attempt to redeem itself from the financial failure that was Final Fantasy: Spirit from Within.
The other title that everyone could wait to learn more was titled Before Crises. Very small details were given, and I'm talking small. I still have the first magazine that had coverage for it and all they had was a few sentences to cover it. Before Crises would be a prequel to FF7 that followed Turks and co, leading events up to that start of Final Fantasy VII. Now typically, any Square fan would be jumping for joy, however, there were a few catches that made most FF fans disappointed. Before Crises is a Cell Phone game only, and exclusive to Japan. So yeah, like having the door shut right in-front of you.
The final title would be Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, another title that took place before the events of Final Fantasy VII. Unlike Before Crises, Crisis Core took place closer in the time line, right before the starting events in FF7. Many fans considered this to be for the most part, Canon to the story, as you played a major character, Zack, one of Cloud's first companions. Though sadly would be released for the PSP and with a release date many Many years out.
However, this was kind of the spark that started to light the ever burning rumors of a FF7 remake. Which only continued to get more fuel when early in 2005 more rumors were abound as a fresh leaks claiming a new Final Fantasy 7 title was in the works and for the PS2.
With this new tidbit of info, almost made certain a new FF7 remake was going to be released for the PS2. Hype and attention steadily grew and who could blame anyone for hoping, Trailers for Advent Children started to appear, which looked gorgeous, making the FFVII universe getting hotter. This had to be it.
Sadly, it wasn't. Instead around mid 2005 we learned the new title would be Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII.
The next title, Dirge of Cerberus was star Vincent, a popular character from FF7, who was having his own title that took place several years after the events of FF7. Gamers once more were disappointed, as this was not the Final Fantasy VII title they were hoping for.
While Dirge of Cerberus had a few popular Dev names attached to the project, sadly the studio deviated from the original play style that Final Fantasy games are known for, the combat was heavily criticized and the story was considered weak when in comparison to the rest of the FF7 saga. So in the end, it wasn't the best selling piece of the FF7 world.
Though Square-Enix wasnt done with the Final Fantasy VII teases.
E3, 2005 when Sony was having its grand PS3 showing, debuting its muscle and lineup of titles. Square-Enix took the time to display a little tech demo they prepared to show the capabilities of the PS3 hardware. Square-Enix would then dump the biggest barrel of the most flammable substance on earth a top of the Final Fantasy 7 rumors. SE shows off the entire opening of Final Fantasy VII, remade on the PS3.
Fans, of course, were doing back-flips. Despite both Sony and SE stating it was nothing more than a tech demo and Square-Enix had several other Final Fantasy titles in the works such as, Final Fantasy XIII and XIII Versus. To no surprise, fans couldn't but help themselves, and a swarm of post declaring that a FF7 remake must surely be in development to follow afterwards.
" If Final Fantasy VII rumors were popping up, E3 most be coming."
The gears of time would slowly pass, as the years moved by, time and time again, rumors would appear and die out. It almost became a tradition, like a farmer checking the leaves of a tree. If he spotted leaves turning red, Fall most be coming. If Final Fantasy VII rumors were popping up, E3 most be coming. Almost every E3 for decades always had multiple rumors of FF7 in development, and time and time again, fans would take the bait only to be disappointed.
Now when your big as Square-Enix, you're going to have a lot of interviews and over the years questions about Final Fantasy VII remake being an option have been generally shot down. While Square-Enix has always been humble about how fans would love a FFVII, it hasn't stopped them from being outright honest. One of the most famous quotes about Final Fantasy VII came in 2010 from Yoshinori Kitase, a game producer at SE, when asked about FFVII remake, he replied:
"would take as much as three or four times longer than the three and a half years it has taken to put this Final Fantasy together! So it's looking pretty unrealistic to happen!"  -- Yoshinori Kitase
So with that in-mind, it seemed pretty unlikely that Cloud and the crew would ever see the light of day again. However, the following years for Square-Enix have not been kind.
It's no secret to anyone, Square-Enix has had a bumpy relationship with its fans, The Final Fantasy XIII saga never really lived up to expectations and Final Fantasy XIV first released was the worst reviewed Final Fantasy game in Square history. Square promised to begin changing its course and building a better relationship with its fans, thus Square-Enix announced building a team that would overlook the quality of their games, ensuring their titles would live up to the standards the company was known for. Both the Press and loyal FF7 fans, once again speculated, could this be the straw that would break the camels back, with SE desperate to win back fans, what better then Final Fantasy VII Remake?
Fast forwarding to 2014, Sony is holding its first PlayStation event in December, that would be streamed live, to show off a suite of titles and features for the PlayStation 4. What better time to have an event to hype up a product during the holidays. As developers announced they would or would not be at the PlayStation Event, Square-Enix listed to be there, and had very special surprise. Of course, like the sun rising, rumors of FFVII would be there, but this time, its for realz.
And the rumors didn't lie, Shinji Hashimoto, a leading game producer from Square-Enix took to the stage to give a very special announcement. The PC version of Final Fantasy VII was coming to the PS4. The crowd and live streamers reactions were priceless, words can't describe that moment where you think, this could be possible, could FFVII be really happening aaaaand then you get this.
It was like pouring salt into the wound.
At this point, Final Fantasy VII rumors have been done to death, a pipe dream that fans felt would never come to fruition. For the first time in almost a decade, after the PlayStation Event, fans finally started to throw in the towel in believeth of a remake to ever happen.
Though, it would seem that not all hope was lost yet, as I said, if FF7 rumors were popping up, it must mean E3 was coming, and right on the money, it was. E3 2015, one of the most mind blowing events in Gaming history kicked off some major bombshells. And one of those mind busters, was when Adam Boyes on stage with green magic streaks of light glowing behind him, he began saying:
"Now many years ago, Square-Enix released a ground breaking title that went on to become one of the most beloved games in PlayStation and video game history. Tonight i'm proud to announce by popular demand, we have a very special treat for everyone"  -- Adam Boyes
So how long as FFVII been in development?
The next big question after FFVII Remake made its grand appearance, was just how long Square-Enix has been involved with the project? While there hasn't been any hard facts to put a date on your calendar when Square-Enix started working on FF7: Remake. There has been a few clues painting a picture when staff could of begun working on the impossible project Square refused to do for so long.
Clue one, when Tetsuya Nomura was no longer directing Final Fantasy XV. Big news broke out last year when Nomura was announced to leave the directing position in mid-September. Square-Enix was quoted saying "This move allows Tetsuya Nomura to focus his full efforts as the director of other highly anticipated titles, including Kingdom Hearts III"
We now know that secretly Nomura was being moved into the Directing position for Final Fantasy VII. Now I doubt Nomura just stood up from his chair and Hajime Tabata, the new director for FFXV just came in and sat down. With all major gaming projects and one long as FFXV been in development, I'm sure there was a period that Hajime and Nomura were being slowly moved into their new roles. So If I had to take a bet, I would put money that Nomura started working on Final Fantasy 7 back in August or even early as July.
But there's another clue, that came from Tetsuya Nomura himself, during an interview, Nomura mentioned that he didn't even know he was going to be the director of Final Fantasy 7 until he was brought into a presentation, and found his name attached to the project as its director.
"So I called up Mr. Kitase and said, 'It says that I’m the director for some reason.' To which he replied, 'Of course it does"  -- Tetsuya Nomura
Now, despite my best attempts, I can't find a date for when this event happened to Nomura, but it's clear that the Final Fantasy VII Remake project kicked off before they even had the director aware. So we know he left full time for FF7 back in September and that the project began before he knew, giving us at best, a ball park guess.
Taking a jab in the dark, I speculate that when the FF7 Remake project got the green light was around the first quarter in 2014. Getting funds, time, staff, shuffling around schedules, and resources takes time, more than you would think. So by the time it was all aligned for full development, would be around when Nomura is at the helm directing.
What comes next?
Naturally the next question on everyone's mind is the agenda Square-Enix has in stored for Final Fantasy VII Remake. Of course, no release date was given, but that hasn't stopped the speculation. Recently eagle eye viewers caught on a PlayStation 4 ad flyer had FFVII Remake listed for "2016 TBA". While I would love to believe Final Fantasy VII Remake releasing next year, my gut tells me that's unlikely.
I could list off a few good key reasons, but I'm going to cut straight to my strongest card, Final Fantasy VII 20th anniversary is 2017. What better time to release one of the most wanted remakes in history. Also, when has Square-Enix ever been good about release dates? Final Fantasy XII and Kingdom Hearts II quickly spring to mind, hell we are still waiting for Versus aka Final Fantasy 15. So to expect Final Fantasy VII Remake next year is a bit premature to hope for. Though, I would love to be wrong!
The next big mountain to climb for Square-Enix is how it chooses to unveil key details on FFVII Remake and the choices they made to make it modernized. Square-Enix knows they have to be very delicate with this, FF7 is considered biblical, holy material here. There's millions of fans deeply attached to this title. So i have no doubt SE will be testing each piece and teasing fans to see what reaction they get.
Which, to no surprise as I was writing this piece up, Tetsuya Nomura already came out explaining to Official PlayStation Magazine that there will be some dramatic changes made, mostly to be expect for the game-play. Honestly, this came to no surprise for me. I seriously doubted a new title coming years out, would have a traditional turn base system or as your character running across the map and then randomly zoning to a battle stage, Pokemon style.
While die-hards long for such style of play, Nomura has been sort of famous for his battle system in Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy Versus/15.  A free roaming action style game. I don't expect FF7 Remake to be Devil May Cry meets Kingdom hearts, But I wouldn't be surprised to see FF7 remake borrowing elements of Final Fantasy XII battle system, where you were able to freely move, switch between characters and approach enemies in your sight. Add a dash of Kingdom hearts and it would work, but that's simply speculation on my part.
Good news is, Tetsuya Nomura seems quite aware of how attached fans are to Final Fantasy VII lore stating "There are certain plot points we don't want to interfere with or disturb, nor will we want to change elements that fans have very big attachments to" So looks like FF7 Remake will stay truthful to the original. So those most faithful to the house of Midgar can breath a sigh of relief.
Now the hardest part begins, the waiting.

13 Reasons Why
(writing this again because the first draft magically disappeared when I went to hang the laundry)
oooo bibi let’s get started.
I read this book back in 2012 and I made a gripping review of it *eye roll* which is here (in case you wanted to read it) : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/571951026?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1
Ever since I read it I’ve been looking forward to the series. Every year I would search for news about it and end up watching fan-made trailers and wondering if Selena Gomez would still be cast as Hannah (which at the time I thought was bullshit because SHE IS NO HANNAH SHE COULD NEVER BE THE PERFECT HANNAH--) woah. okay chill.
.
.
.
SO NOW! This is a comprehensive review and/or breakdown of both the book and the show. (jk i’m not a critic. these are just thoughts)
I appreciated the show (very much) and I loved that her parents are a lot more involved here. In the books, they were there for a couple of sentences and they were gone. Strange. Her parents loved her so much. She could talk to them so if they were completely ignorant of her (the impression I got from the book) then I could see why she killed herself but from the show’s viewpoint, I’m really confused. I think there is a logic behind it that although she was loved, she still felt like she was a problem. idk. NOTE: I just realised this but in the book she says if she can trust the 12 of them to keep a secret and not not let her parents find out what happened. But show Tony still gave it to them. lols
Tony started off really shady in the show but he settled down a few episodes in and I liked his character a lot. I’m glad he’s as involved here as he was the book. He had a bigger role and I loved that fact where he doesn’t fit into everybody’s stories but trustworthy enough which made him the perfect person to give the second set to.
The places were pretty accurate in my head. Except for EISENHOWER PARK. WHEN THE BOOK SAYS SAYS ROCKET SHIP THERE BETTER BE A BLOODY ROCKET SHIP NOT SOME CHEAP ASS SLIDE. oooooooo.
calm down gurl.
Moving on, I loved the character development in the show. It showcased their personality and who they are as a person better. I mean I understand you can’t a whole background check on each person soo...
There were a few characters that I think they cast perfectly (Clay, Tony, Justin, Jessica, Alex, Tyler, Jenny/Sheri whatever her name should be and Bryce). Okay so Hannah’s was perfect, she is the perfect Hannah but in the book I thought she would be blonde and not like Katherine’s features but I really like her portrayal so yup.
I never imagined myself sympathising for Alex and Justin. Knowing how guilty Alex was and how horrible Justin’s story was, I just couldn’t help it. In the book, I had no time to feel sorry for them because they were basically assholes who didn’t care what they did. Now I feel horrible for what Alex did to himself. I knew it was coming though. He alluded to it and I knew it was coming.
They did Jessica justice. By far, how I imagined her in the book. Thumbs up. She did great. No complaints. Just praise.
They made Tyler extra creepy in the show. Which is great haha. I thought that his room would be in the second floor and that Hannah was up in a tree instead or directly in front of the house. wat. Also, what was that ending for Tyler. Watchoo up to boii?
Courtney. I hated her in the books. Hated her in the show too. I know a lot of Courtney Crimsen’s. Those girls that were nice because they had that reputation but were actually bitches. mmmmm. yup. i see you. *snaps fingers in z* but in the show, they made her even worse by making her defend a rapist just because she was afraid that people would know she’s gay?! Honestly, it’s 2017. We’re more open to it these days.
I don’t really have anything to say about Marcus, he’s horrible anyway. He wasn’t that important to me as a character.
A lot of Zach was the same as the book which is cool. I didn’t imagine him to be Asian (or that he was Brett in K.C. Undercover *i don’t watch the show, i just like him shipped with zendaya*). I feel like he was pretty legit in his reasons. He comforted Hannah when Marcus was shit, he comforted her, he was NICE in approaching her but she was kind of a bitch to him. Ironic how she was like “Get over it” but she went ahead and didn’t get over anything and killed herself in the process. Book Zach, I didn’t agree with his reasons but show Zach, I could see why. This wasn’t Zach’s fault Hannah.
I like Hannah’s poem in the book more than the show’s one. Soul Alone was better, in my opinion. Ryan was okay. He did match up with the book quite well tbh. No probs here.
In the book, I didn’t really imagine Clay and Hannah to be as close as they were in the show. I think they were friendly but not like friends-friends. Clay obvs had a crush on her but I don’t think he was too involved in Hannah’s life (from the book) to be that super significant. I’m happy they made them closer in the show but I’m also a bit doubtful of it because it was so clear that they were friends and idk why Hannah still did it. She had a fricking nickname for him! How the hell were they not friends enough to not kill yourself for? Clay was too perfect of a character in the book. I’m happy they made him flawed in the show. And his ending with Skye is something that took me a while to understand but now that I though about it, it made sense. He couldn’t save Hannah so he’s save Skye instead. Breaks my heart every time.
Why did they change Jenny to Sheri. It makes no sense to me. Why not leave it as it is? It was the same story. Just different names. I don’t get it.
In between these two is a little note. JEFF. LET US GRIEVE FOR JEFF. HE WAS THE PUREST SOUL IN THE SHOW. WHY? Y U DO DIS? LIFE? </3
Bryce was just as disgusting as I imagined him to be. He looks like someone I would spit on. He was so spot on from the book to the show. I wish they left “Just relax” somewhere. I think in the book it was there to recognise him a lot clearly but in the show you already saw his face so maybe that’s why. Yeah. He was the ultimate fuckboy. It’s was disgusting how he raped Hannah and Jessica. I was so angry. What the fuck.
So, I was talking to my brother about this and I realised that Hannah in the show is more impulsive than book Hannah who was reflective-ish. During Bryce’s tape, she thought of going into that hot tub with him and Courtney (stupid of her to still go for it) and why she shouldn’t before she went in but show Hannah just went for it. Yup. When she was deciding how to kill herself, she thought of the least brutal way possible. Pills. In the show they fucking make her slit her wrists. Makes for good TV but holy fuck, I was not ready for that scene. I legit bawled into tears (even more when her parents came in).
MR. PORTER. Probs the worst counsellor ever. You let her walk away after she deliberately told you that she should get on with her life. You knew what she was talking about. You knew and you didn’t say anything.........................................
Apart from the monologue she did, her last words (on the tapes) will always be my favourite part of the book. She says “A lot of you cared. Just not enough. And that is what  I needed to find out.  And I did. And I’m sorry”.
I think they stayed as close to the book as they possibly could in the span of the 13 hour-long episodes which I applaud them for.
What annoys me is that there are really good lines and quotes from the book that I just envisioned them saying but this is more a personal issue than the shows fault. harhar.
Olly olly oxen free was fricking cool. the fuck was FML?! “-.-

In conclusion...
This book just means so much to me.
I just empathised with Hannah and somehow whatever was was going on in her head, during the darkest points in her life, I thought of too.
And after I read it, I didn’t want to do “it” anymore.
I’m doing a lot better now. I’m a lot older and although I’m not as emotionally stable as I hoped I would be, I’m comforted to know that I’m not hurting myself as badly as before and I’ll be around for quite a while.
I think 13 Reasons Why saved me :) Hopefully, it saved others too..
