anyways i’m thinking about my birthday and im wondering what i should do (its in june). i dont wanna just go out to dinner because i did that last year and it was basically just… ik i can do better. whatever i do i know ill probably do on the friday or saturday night before or after bc my birthday is a weekday. it will also probably be my high school group (5 ppl) my hometown friends (2 ppl) and my work bestie (1 ppl).

1. powerpoint night.

pros:

- its cheap. can be done at my house and is really casual

- this is something i’ve wanted to do for a while (i actually wanted one for my 19th but my ex friends talked me out of it because they wouldn’t like it)

- my friends who havent met my cat can meet my cat

cons:

- will be getting a few different groups of friends together so it may be awkward for these people to present/ find topic

- my sister turned the ‘hangout space” into her hsc study area and really is anti giving it up for one night (i tried once). also her stuff gives bad vodoo bc hsc

- will probably have to kick family out

- i feel some ppl find the notion of a powerpoint presentation stressful bc high school (probably why my ex friends weren’t too keen)

- my house isnt great for public transport and funnily enough the friends who live furthest away don’t have their license . its a locals only bus service. you can tell.

2. escape room

pros

- really easy team building plus it doesn’t matter if its all different groups /some people don’t know each other well.

cons.

- expensive as fuck

- done lots of escape rooms

- doing with lots of people can be overwhelming and smaller teams kinda work better here (i did an escape room once and the team was like ten people and it was Too Much. i stood there useless half the time.)

3. quiz room

pros.

- really cool and unique also im a sucker for trivia and irl game show sounds cool.

- probably good for my desired group size.

- public transport accessible

cons.

- its literally $45 pp and like ik my friends aren’t that stingy but even im going… yikes

- will probably have to be organised far in advance

4. karaoke

pros.

- really affordable if you do it right

- reliable. really easy to organise and i know how to.

- public transport accessible

- my friends and i do this all the time

- once again the three ppl there who don’t really know my high school friends might find it awkward

Hello - Lol hi I'm Ginny and this is a fun something I was about to do on my previous blog, and I remembered it! So I decided to still do it here. It's a random self introduction based on genshin impact character profiles! Maybe even a better fit for me to do it on this new account.

Chat: Tickling - I may have said this before, but I am a very bad tickler. In fact, I can barely remember tickling anyone properly so far in my life. I've done some quick pokes and scribbles, but I just can't go much further than that. Everything I wrote in my fics and hcs is just pure creativity and imagination. Not experience.

When It Rains - I get all cozy when I'm indoors and it's raining, like right now! But when I have to go out, it can make me frown and whine a lot.

When It Snows - I hope I don't fall down... I've got quite a number of experiences already, of slipping and falling in the snow.

Good Night - It's almost 1 AM. I should probably go to sleep. Ah, I'm too wide awake at night these days. And too tired during mornings hahaha.

About Me: Language - I speak Dutch, English, and Japanese and in all languages I sometimes struggle with formality levels at work. Especially when Japanese people call me by my first name without 'san', I am like..!!!! It's always a challenge to find the perfect balance of not being too impolite, and not being too formal and distant. I get the feeling I worry more about language and formality aspects than others.

Something to Share: Subscriptions - I've actually got way too many subscriptions running - Cinema, Spotify, Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Nintendo Switch Online, and Just Dance+. I kinda pay too much for things I don't always need, but I do need them a little and can't get myself to cancel any, even when they shamelessly increase their prices. Does it make me a money disaster? Hm.

My Hobbies: Journaling - My friends and I all have bullet journals and working on those while chatting and listening to some music is one of the most calming and satisfying things in life for me.

My Troubles - Needing a new laptop so I can play games like The Sims and Honkai Star Rail, but my current laptop isn't so old yet. Also, the Taylor Swift store doesn't ship to the Netherlands, I cry.

Favorite Food - Sushi, bibimbab, spaghetti with meatballs.

Least Favorite Food - Cheese.

About @ticklygiggles - On June 16, 2016, Mia sent me a message on Tumblr, starting a conversation. I messaged her back, and from that moment on we just... talked daily, grew closer and closer, watched anime together, wrote fics together, called and sent voice messages, and last month for the first time we FINALLY were able to play genshin together (Mia made a new acc because we weren't on the same server, huhu dedication girl). We did the Heart Island thing in Mia's world.

Okay so, I promised in Saturday's post that I would try to be positive, but I may already have to rescind on that promise lol. (the "lol" is for punctuation because I definitely did not laugh.) "No rules!" stinks and has very few redeeming qualities. 🙂 Natalia was right, she WAS robbed by a Nudist Demon!

For real, does anyone over the age of twenty-five enjoy this dumpster fire? If so, fukk meee. LOVE YOURSELVES.

As I noted in my UMK review back in Feb:

I have difficulty buying into this hyperactive ball of bad taste. “Fuck The System” always feels like the go-to message of individuals that fail to fit into social structures that aren’t fully of their own shaping. For an entry that’s all “live as you like, there’s no rules!” in its messaging, these two look like they conform to just about every styling and behavioural rule associated with Zoomer culture: A total disregard for general aesthetics over a dumbed-down drone of a beat because everything is ironic and nothing is to be taken seriously.  It is a depressing take on life. Yeah sure, a bit of camp levity is welcome in this loathesome world, but any happy song that weaponizes irony like this one trends towards encouraging irresponsibility, cynicism and nihilism. Some things DO matter in life, you know? You need to afford your bills and groceries, charge your social batteries, cultivate your friendships, or else you’ll wind up living alone in a van, down by the river. But if the latter life appeals to you, then this is the entry for you, I guess. For me though; this contest is already has one Joost Klein. Let’s not add a second one from Finland.

Funny how I nailed that even before knowing the full extent of it. I ofc vastly underestimated how bad the live would be, and as soon as I'd seen it my scepsis immediately supernova'd into intense HATRED. If ONLY "Paskana" hadn't been weak as piss. Yes, the cringe in "No Rules!" is deliberate, obviously, I have a sense of humour. Having a sense of humour is why I hate it? How much "deliberated cringe" can one tolerate before concluding "nope, this is r o t t e n." Does it start with

THE DONALD DUCKING?

or

CALLING HIMSELF" A QUEEN"?

screaming "SEE ME SLAYYYY" :proceeds to not slay: ?

It definitely ends in whatever this shot is supposed to be.

Humour is subjective sure enough, and Windowsninetycringeman's jokes fall flatter than a pancake á moi. Why is everything denim? Why is this THIRTY-NINE YEAR OLD MAN still engaging in toilet humour and internet speak? Grow the f up? The art lies in the execution and Finland showed neither. I do NOT like Europapa much, but having Finland and not Netherlands in the final vibes wrong on so many levels. Europapa at least had a clear plan and delivered its nonsense in contained, piecemeal doses? It was COMPETENT in what it attempted to be (A Televote Winner), not a lazy amalgation of simple-minded drunk jokes strung together over a Planet of The Bass megamix as some sort of a Hail Mary. Joost and Teemu represent the Expectations/Reality divide of Zoomer Nonsense and it was darksided that only the latter got to compete for points. But on top of that, Teemu was generally just full of shit? Hooray, an Old Millennial engaging in Zoomer Cringe who lets an actual zoomer do all the vocal heavy lifting, without giving him a single featuring credit. Yay! It's a painfully accurate depiction of what being a zoomer is like, but not an intentional one.

Also remember when Teemu said he would "try to discreetly approach the other contestants to find ways to show support for Palestine" (remember that this contest was supposed to be 'not political'?) Hm yes discreet. So discreet he declared his intentions to interviewers so that everyone would know it was HIS idea. "Discreet", human please. And the result of all that talk was...

(lol I'm SO making it sound like I care about what political standpoints any of these acts took, and I don't. But I do call out a fraud when I spot one.)

Yeah well thanks for trying, but I'd rather you hadn't. A statement you can apply to my feelings of the entry overall. Okay, we've reached full circle, time to move on to our designated palate cleanser because THIS page is a safe zone for people of good taste.

Series summary: Life with Sy, what more can you wish for? The most amazing husband and father to a whole litter of cute little kids... Sometimes you wonder "how did you get here?"

Series warning: Eventual smut, for now, fluffy mcflufferson.

There's gonna be mistakes, because I had to make this a quick one...

“Hi! You must be Sy!” God, this man was tall – at least 6’ to your 5’1. And he smelled good – why did he have to smell good? You didn’t have time for a man! You were just here as a favor to your friend. How did she know this guy, anyway? He looked older than you, early thirties to your mid-twenties.

“Yeah, hey. Lara, right?”

“Yes!” It was just one drink, you just had to keep it up for one drink.

One drink turned into two, into three, and eventually into four. You were in serious trouble here. Sy was easy to talk to, had a good job, he was easy on the eyes, and the fact that the stitches of the shirt he was wearing were clearly only hanging on by the grace of God did not hurt, either. The two of you talked about anything and everything; his job, your studies, family, pets, you name it. You learned he grew up on his granddad’s ranch in Texas, and that he would really love to own a home with enough land someday to have his own horses again – which led you to have a hard time concentrating for the next ten or so minutes while your brain decided it was very necessary to imagine this burly cowboy on a horse. It wasn’t. Really. You could have done without that mental image. At least until you got home.

And then, the ‘check, please’-moment. He was annoyingly insistent on paying, and absolutely wasn’t going to go along with your idea of splitting. Sy even went as far as saying that ‘going Dutch’ was a completely ridiculous idea, especially on a first date, but you paid him no mind. You can take the girl out of the Netherlands, but you can’t take the Netherlands out of the girl. Nevertheless, your little kerfuffle about who was paying lead to you blurting out a combination of words you’d never heard yourself say in any dating-related context: “Next one’s on me, then.”

“Next one, huh?” Sy smiled as if he approved of the idea. “I might have to get my hands on your number, then.”

You raised an eyebrow at him. That was not an actual question, and if this guy wanted your number he was going to have to do a lot better than this.

“’Course I could ask Julie, I’m sure she wouldn’t mind, since she so kindly set us up today, but I’d rather get it from you directly. What do you think?”

“I think, Sy, that you need to be a little more to the point,” you replied to what you considered the most cumbersome way of asking someone for their phonenumber. Ever.

“Can I get your number, Sugar?” You pretended to contemplate your answer for a while, which didn’t sit very well with Sy. He took a step closer to you and repeated his question slower and in a lower register, both of which highlighted his accent in the cutest way. It was also vaguely threatening, which your body reacted to in ways you couldn’t describe as anything other than high treason.

“Y-yes,” you stammered as you felt a blush creep from under the collar of your blouse.

“Thank you.” Sy suddenly smiled and the threatening air that had surrounded him a second ago, was gone immediately. “May I walk you to your car?”

“Julie was going to pick me up,” you said without thinking about it.

“Well in that case,” Sy chuckled, “may I offer you a ride home?” You were going to kill Julie. Oh, well. She absolutely would have come and pick you up if the date had been a disaster. And you guessed she knew Sy well enough to know he wasn’t a total creep.

“That would be great, thank you, Sy.”

You talked some more on the way home, which wasn’t long, but you’re pretty sure you took a detour or two on the way there. Since you hadn’t been living here for too long, you couldn’t be completely certain. When you arrived at your house, you secretly hoped for just one more detour. Luckily, Sy got out of his truck to open your door for you, and insisted on walking you to the house. Sy squinted at you, clearly debating whether or not he should say something about the state of the house he was dropping you off at. Eventually he seemed to decide that whatever he had to say probably wasn’t something you didn’t already know.

“I had a great time tonight, Sy,” you said as you hugged him goodbye on the porch.

“Me too, Sugar,” Sy replied with a friendly hint of mischief in his eyes, “mind if I kiss ya?” You let him know that you didn’t mind at all. As his lips came closer and your eyes slowly fell shut, it felt like the ground disappeared from beneath you. Because it did. Fuck! The floorboards of the porch had finally given out. Luckily, Sy was more than capable of keeping you upright and unharmed. He laughed as he put you back down in a place that looked sturdier than the one you were in before, and he pressed a swift but sweet kiss on your cheek. “Ma’am, if you need any repairs on this death-trap of a house of yers, you’ve got my number.”

i mean the first thing i thought in response to this was "yes of course theyre big rocks ofc theyll be around for another 1000 years" but like.....honestly? i (nor anyone else) could tell you that they will/will not be around in 1000 years with absolute certainty.

When you're asking about the preservation of a site in a timespan like that you simply cannot account for the chaos of the passing of time. From a geological standpoint yes if nobody moves them and the earth doesnt split open? theyll probably still be there in 1000 years.

a milennia ago the netherlands didnt exist. in another milennia theres a decent chance that the netherlands as we know it wont exist anymore either. Political conflicts happen, borders move, civilisations gradually fall, cultures and their values shift. As important as they are viewed by the current dutch culture, the dutch people in 100 years could not give less of a fuck about these rocks and remove them, they might become some political/religious/ideological symbol and be moved or destroyed. (And If you think that can't happen to some plain rocks look no further than roman statues. I can garuentee you that ancient romans would not fuck with people of germanic descent thinking their broken, unpainted statues symbolise the "perfect symbol of the west".)

And as much as it sucks to say: war spares nothing. Historic sites are targetted in warfare to such an extent i cant even begin to list the amount of valueable archeological sites we've lost to some guys going "fuck it. throw a bomb on it.". We can't predict what conflict the patch of land the hunnebedden is located in will get involved in within 1000 years and if it will even be targetted by then, or if its just some old rocks in the woods.

idk this was a rant and im sick as hell so its probs not the most well worded but ykno, maybe, maybe not. Time is cruel.

Cyprus is...kinda bye I guess...

I know Serbia was given the 2nd spot but I can still see it comfortably qualifying, there's no way it won't with both Croatia and Slovenia voting in this semifinal.

Lithuania 3rd...........no comment. I know he's one of the main faves of this semifinal and will still qualify comfortably because of that but come on, 3rd?? 😭

Mmmm I don't know if I should be worried for Ireland, 4th is a pretty risky spot (and gave me huge Latvia 2023 flashbacks) but it's kinda being preceded by UK? Who isn't that hyped from what I've seen...but also Ukraine is after and might get all the attention from literally anyone who's around their spot?? Prayer circle for Ireland...

Poland is also sandwiched between two big faves, Ukraine and Croatia...that might hurt them a bit, I don't know...

Slovenia has a good draw I think. I think she will also qualify. Plus being helped by Croatia and Serbia.

Ok, beautiful to see how they just basically boosted Luxembourg's chances to the stratosphere, I definitely see them qualifying now.

Favorite current driver is Lando. I do not know why, he is just more... down to earth to me? More approachable in a way? And he's funny and hot, which helps. The whole underdog story is also too exciting to pass on

I only started watxhing in 2021, so i dont know much about non-current drivers, but id say seb. His humour is unparalleled and he fights for the right causes

Favorite pairing is ofc carlando. Those two have a dynamic of true friends, not just work-friends. They go out with each other, go golfing and such. All round cuteness with those two

Most attracted to physically would probably be Lando again? Either him or Oscar. I have a type and i know it, and zak brown knows it too apparently. But carlos is there too, that HAIR?!🥵

Mclaren is my favorite team, their environment seems currently very well organised with good people in there

Least favorite team is alpine, but even them i dont "dislike" perse. The way they talked about oscar and mclaren though... grrrr.

Sooo today was my birthday (timezone GMT+1 so in three minutes it’s no longer June 15th) and it was a fun day until it wasn’t...

Yesterday my boss wished me a happy birthday (for today ofc) for the very first time in the four years of my employment!!! That was a genuine fun surprise. He gave me permission to take a day off from work today to have a quiet day. 

My dad wanted to do something together and I was in the mood for a little day trip, so we went shopping and for a walk in the Netherlands. I bought a couple of fun things and my dad bought me a book on “South Korean wisdoms” (he let me choose my own present). 

After the shopping trip we went back to his girlfriend’s house to have dinner together. I wanted fries from a friturie, but his gf didn’t want that, so he made something else. Because ofc she doesn’t let me pick my dinner. Then she gave me the present she bought me, which was a cookbook called “Table for One”...

That’s not a present, that’s an insult!

I couldn’t hide my disappointment (who would be able to do that?), and I’m certain that she’s going to whine to my dad about how big of an ungrateful brat I am.

Then I got home and called my mom. She had unfortunate news as well: my grandmother fell earlier this day and I’m beyond worried about her. I hope we’ll receive good news tomorrow.

Jack Bruce. I've been waiting almost a year for that comeback phase and finally now the penny dropped -again- he was not just that 'legend' that people associate with Clapton. Dude played jazz fusion with Mick Taylor dude could do everything not just jazz & blues. Like I've sever seen someone describing his music as prog but I think he did it too. Also I'd say no one will ever come to his level of playing no matter how much practice... Yes ofc people play fretless basses or contrabass etc but Jack Bruce was Jack Bruce and rest in peace. Plus that his voice is so incredible ahbzwahskshajhsj if someone can't stand it then it's their opinion but I believe it was already acrobatic what he did (same with the lyrics & melodies he created) dude wasn't one in a million dude was the only one on earth so yeah now Amen

“Woman, that car of yours is gonna be the death of me!” Tough luck, though, you told him, because you weren’t going through the process of getting another car. Besides, he was the one who had picked that one.

“What’s wrong with it, though?” You asked as you looked around the counter. “Grab me the peas from the freezer, would you?”

“Ain’t nothin’ wrong with it,” Sy growled, “it’s just too small for normal people.” He held the bag of frozen peas to his forehead while he walked over to you. It wasn’t the first time he’d hit his head trying to get into your car, and you were fairly sure it wouldn’t be the last. Served him right, though, because you were somehow training your splits every time you had to get into that ridiculous truck of his.

“Didn’t feel like getting off your step?” he teased as he handed you the bag of peas. The two of you had a love-hate relationship with the way he teased you about your height. And by that you meant that you hated that he loved it, and he loved that you hated it.

“If I got down from here, I wouldn’t be able to do this,” you said before you kissed him on the head. “Besides, it’s not as if you qualify as ‘normal people’, you’re a giant.” Not back home in the Netherlands, though, he wasn’t even on the tall side of average there. But he didn’t need to know that. Sy didn’t have a fragile ego, but you were fairly sure it could be bruised, and calling him small in any capacity was probably the way to go at it if you wanted that to happen.

“Car’s fixed,” he just said, not wanting to get into that argument again. He wouldn’t want to risk overusing the ‘everything’s bigger in Texas’ line he loved so much.

“Thank you, honey,” you said sweetly, “what do I owe my favorite mechanic?”

“You ain’t ever gonna owe me nothin’, Sugar.” He wrapped his arms around you from behind and kissed your neck gently before moving his mouth up to your ear. “But I’ll gladly take donations in the form of some quality time with you on your knees.” You looked at the dinner you were making. It had another 25 minutes of oven time in its future… You ordered Sy to toss the dish back in the oven, and he happily obliged. If you hadn’t asked him, he would have insisted: He didn’t like it when you had to get off your step stools you had stowed away in every corner of the house while holding hot things, heavy things, or any other kinds of things.

When he stood back up after doing what you asked, he grinned; you were already on your knees and eagerly undoing his belt. His own suggestion hadn’t left him cold, but there was room for improvement, you judged as you wrapped your fingers around him and gave him a few strokes. He looked down, which created the perfect opportunity for you to give him that look that always drove him crazy. It was simple – eyes wide, biting your lip – but effective, and you chuckled when you felt him grow harder in your hand.

“I coulda waited but I ain’t comp- fuck!” He gave up on trying to speak when your tongue hit the tip of his cock, and didn’t seem to regain the ability after that. You relished the swears and moans that Sy let out, and you laughed when he took a step back to lean against the kitchen table after a few minutes. The hand on the back of your head didn’t put any pressure on you, but you had to admit it was very nice to feel Sy’s fingers in your hair.

“Fuck, baby, you’re so good to me,” he groaned, and from the way he said it you could tell he was close. Now, how terrible would it have been if you both had a friend with a knack for walking in at precisely the wrong time…

“Well, I guess we’re square.” Jules. “I’ll give you guys a minute. To clean up, not to finish.”

“Kind o’ ya,” Sy said through gritted teeth. He turned to you when she was gone – after quickly sorting himself out. “Darlin’, you alright?” You shook your head. You were absolutely mortified by what had happened. How was Jules so casual about the whole thing?

“She ain’t seen anything, Sugar,” he tried to calm you down, but it didn’t work. You cleaned off and dove into Sy’s arms.

“Lara, Sy, everyone decent?” Jules asked from outside the kitchen. Sy begrudgingly answered her question. “I’m sorry, I should have knocked.” This was why you kept her around; yes, she was a handful and could be downright abrasive at times, but she was kind and generous and she didn’t hesitate to admit it when she was wrong.

“I forgot you guys were coming early, I’m sorry.”

“I’m fairly sure Jules won’t judge us for doing whatever we want with each other in our kitchen,” Sy said. There was clearly still some residual anger left in him from that fateful day Sy got kicked out of Jules’ and Patrick’s house.

“After what I said to you? Couldn’t possibly get pissed about it, now could I?” And that’s when the three of you started laughing.

“What do you mean ‘the engagement party is here’?” Sy yelled, scaring Jules and you – and even Pat, though he probably wouldn’t admit it. “Why did no one think to tell me? It can’t be here!”

“Why not, Sy?” “I live here, Sugar. That thing we said weeks ago? About those two –“ He pointed at Jules and Patrick. “- living in sin? That’s us now. Alright and them, but…”

“Come on, your parents can’t be that bad,” you said, but you saw Jules’ terrified look and immediately knew how wrong you were about that.

“Not that bad, but I’m tellin’ ya, Sugar, they ain’t gon’ like it. And my grandparents will have a heart attack.”

“But we don’t need to tell them you live here,” Jules tried carefully, “and your grandparents aren’t coming. They’re coming out for the wedding, though.”

“Half the stuff in that livin’ room is mine, Jules.” He had a very good point there.

“Big reaction back there,” you said after you’d sent Jules and Pat home. Sy had escaped to the bedroom and didn’t look like he was going to come out any time soon. “You scared me a little. What’s going on?” There had to be more to it than he was telling you.

“Jules,” he said to your surprise. “Somehow always gets to have it both ways. I love her to bits, don’t get me wrong, but… they’ll get to be the happy engaged couple, nobody needs to know they’re livin’ together, and I’m goin’ to get a bunch of shit from mom.”

“Is it really going to be that bad?”

“I can hear ma already,” he grinned. “’Johnathan George Syverson, I raised you better than to go around livin’ with a woman you have no intention of marryin.’” He paused for a moment after he said it, and then abruptly turned to you. “Not that I don’t… Y’know what, Sugar, I’m just goin’ to shut up.” The face he made while he said it had you in stitches.

“Sy! You’re being ridiculous,” you said, but he gave you a look.

“Am I? You weren’t raised by them, darlin’.” His tone was almost mocking.

“Is there any way we can pretend we’re just roommates?”

I took a nap but it was only like 20 minutes and I wasn’t fully asleep so I could still hear everyone around me this is so upsetting what was the point of the nap

Being on this plane felt more like I was in a car honestly it was moving and shaking so much even when there wasn’t turbulence wtf. It was so scary man fr like every time we would hit turbulence the lady on the communicator would give the seatbelt warning sounding so scared and her voice was so shaky and it would constantly be cutting off like please I’m already worried about this trip don’t tell me you’re worried about crashing because of this too

Everyone on the plane was so loud and I have even more reason to hate iPad kids and parents that raise their children on technology

Maybe if your kid wasn’t so used to only going to sleep if they were watching something then they would have been asleep and not screaming the whole time we were on the plane and I also wouldn’t have to listen to Little Baby Bum for 90% of the trip. PLUS THE AMOUNT OF TIMES THESE KIDS DROPPED THEIR IPADS ON THE FLOOR JUST HOLD THEM FOR THEM OR GET THEM TO SLEEP

There was a group of like 4 toddlers who had like 5 minutes where they just chanted “baby shark baby shark baby shark” like they were trying to summon something

I realised like half way through the flight that I’ve never stayed in a hotel before and I got so anxious for no reason about it. It’s only for a day and a bit as well though it might have been my concern over the fact that I didn’t pack a toothbrush or hairbrush since I assumed that we were going directly to my house instead of staying 2 days in a hotel before getting another plane to get to the house but also it’s normal to assume that a hotel in Egypt would have that available to you

Meeting people from Egypt while being Egyptian is like having an internet friendship and the same with meeting someone from England while being English but this exclusively applies to parties and such in that context but it only lasts for like 3 hours before you never see each other again for the next 7 years where one of you miraculously recognises the other. You learn their entire life story within the first 10 minutes and only learn their name after it’s been 4 hours and one of you thinks to ask just before the other leaves but you never give each other your numbers and never intend to see them ever again.

I hate planes now though fr I cannot take the hour flight home just give me the 8 hour trip by coach to my house

Everyone is so annoyed that we’re Egyptian lmao because as soon as they heard that we came from Britain they assumed that they could scam us out of an extra £15 for a taxi ride that was 10 minutes long and such and came running but started arguing and complaining once they realised that we knew the actual prices for the stuff and services that they were selling and how the system in Egypt worked when it came to British and American people

We need to buy plugs for the chargers because both my phone and my mums are dying and we have the charger but no plugs because my mum assumed that they would have plugs at the hotel. They didn’t. Which was weird. Because it’s basically common courtesy here that hotels have things like toothbrushes and hair brushes and plugs. Realised it’s because they had a terrible group of guests that literally stole everything from pepper to toilet paper when they left literally the day before so that’s not on them

Found a bunch of coral on the beach also which was fun and very cool looking which I’m taking with me back to England

I found a bunch before I went diving and most of it was white so I assumed that it was a dying reef nearby considering how close the fish were but it was probably just really old coral at that point

There was a bunch of clams in the reef as well and you could see the blue outline of the mouth and I’m so upset I didn’t bring a waterproof camera with me or as the camera guy that came diving with me to take photos of the reef too

i'm not reviewing the songs from the prequalifying round here. those will be in a separate post after and not included in my yearly top or average table (just as i don't count the songs from 2020, or ro 2016/ru 2017).

Turkey This rocks - the piano part in the instrumental is super catchy and memorable. And ofc I think Sebnem's voice is great and she has a good, subtle stage presence. The prechorus is a bit of a vibe killer, though, it feels really off and destroys the momentum.

UK Gina G herself is undoubtedly the best thing about this performance. I like to watch her and I like the way she looks in that dress. However, her backup dancers are simply too hype (the routine could have been pared down or eliminated altogether) and whatever camera or lighting effects they were trying to do don't come across well, at least not 25 years later. The song is just ok. A little too frenetic for my liking but not terrible.

Spain That's a pass from me - it's better once the beat kicks in but I'm pretty bored by the whole thing and I don't like his voice.

Portugal This is a hard one. On the one hand, the sections of the song don't cohere, leaving it pretty jumbled-sounding. On the other, I like all of the different sections of it, even though I don't think it works as one piece. So it's good, but also fragmented.

Cyprus He sounds good, but again, I am bored. Ranks above Spain because he just sounds better.

Malta It's a very good song for her. It isn't personally to my taste, though, and more importantly there are moments where she overperforms physically and that affects her singing. But ultimately she looks good and sounds good for most of the song and we have to give her credit for that.

Croatia Those screamed notes my GOD. Just. Frankly startling. Not welcome. Certainly, uh, gives the song a unique character. Ignoring those (hard not to), it's an OK song but she's got so much vibrato. Too much. I don't like it.

Austria Ok, let me get this straight, it's a gospel song sung in Austrian dialect by a guy who sounds like Elvis but just sits at the piano the whole time? Ok! Great! Um, I fucking love this and I think it's a lot of fun but I think it's also performative multiculturalism at its finest and that George sitting at the piano the whole time really detracts from the performance. His backup singers were so much more fun to watch - the male backup singer probably could have performed this as the lead artist and it would have gone better.

Switzerland I am learning why everyone hates ballads.

Greece What I will say is that this year is turning out to have a hard dichotomy between "good songs" and "boring songs" and while this is less boring than the last one it fails to capture my attention. The most memorable thing about it is the photobooth filter.

Estonia Maarja-Liis has a really beautiful voice, but it doesn't match too well with Ivo's, and the song doesn't have as much structure as I want it to. I'm never certain on where the verse is and where the chorus is.

Norway Something funny about her vocal quality on the word "evighet". A little too shrill, she's not exactly on the pitch or there's something wrong with her vowel or I don't know, it just sounds wrong. Anyway this is one of the better ballads, it's beautiful and all, but I /still/ find my thoughts wandering all over the place.

France It's nice but I'm BORED! aGAIN! why is this contest so excruciating every other song. Please god. I wanted this to be good I wanted a good minority language song and then it was not that.

Slovenia This one is ok. She sounds good and there's some interesting chord progression stuff going on.

Netherlands Probably felt a little dated at the time, but here it is a welcome break from the deluge of boredom! There's good vocal match here and they seem comfortable with each other onstage too.

Belgium I'm glad it was another upbeat one but it wasn't the best of the upbeat songs for me tbh. I liked the card visual effect. And the further back I watch the funnier it is for me to see the camera effects like we've been seeing all night here. Poland 2022 did not come out of a vacuum, people!

Ireland It's different from everything else we've seen so far, and Eimear has incredible control over her voice. Her soprano range is light and airy and she makes hitting all those notes seem effortless. I wish there was something more to it, it feels like something is missing. But I am definitely not complaining about its win.

Finland It was okay? Nice guitar. It felt cohesive which is probably the most I can say for it.

Poland One of the better ballads, it has good movement to it. She sounds very strained vocally though.

B&H This year is going to be so hard to rank because all the ballads are going to blend together and it's going to be awful

Slovakia Gets points above all the other ballads because of how gorgeous this man's voice is.

Sweden This is so unlike what I usually conceive of Sweden sending but I kinda like it. Nice passing tones in the chorus. Idunno.

Miscellaneous Thoughts at least these hosts did a good job. they're pretty funny and had good chemistry with each other, and the male host is a really good singer! especially obsessed with him trying to talk to the austrian guy's mom in german and being so utterly confused. i'm also a fan of the green screen scoreboard. all in all i think this was a well-done show, just with shit songs. it's very interesting for me, watching this voting sequence. ireland, about to get their 7th win, soared ahead in the juries very quickly, making the winner fairly obvious from the jump; i imagine that audiences in 1996 felt rather the same way as audiences in 2023 when loreen did the same. it's likely no coincidence that televoting was trialed the next year. i know that the ebu is likewise in discussions about the format and weighting of the juries. and lastly, it's kind of funny how ireland gave their 12 this year to sweden. the country at its peak, about to fall from grace, handing over their 12 to the country that will tie their record. [brb googling who sweden gave their douze to this year] oh, it was finland? in both the juries and the public? hm i guess we better get ready for finnish domination at some point in the next 30 years!

That was definitely a great game, especially as a German :)

First of all I’m really happy that the team finally has a shimmer of hope again and something to look forward to after all these tough months. Would have been really gutted for them to lose another big game and therefore the Olympia dream.

They had their head in the game from the very first minute. They showed that they really want to go to Olympia, fought the whole time and showed up as a team.

Ofc there were moments where they started to shake a bit, but they never lost their goal and finally played like a team again. They had each others backs.

I was a bit sceptical about the lineup, but the changes worked and especially Jule did her job very well. The sub at halftime was also a good choice, Schüller played with her strengths (first and foremost her speed).

And also really happy that Endemann got her first cap for Germany.

There were also some unlucky moments on both sides. The Netherlands had some great chances, but our defence threw themselves in front of every ball. And obviously Merle did some really important saves. Then we also have Nüskens big chance in the first half where the wood saved the Netherlands and also overall a great defensive performance by Janssen, etc.

The goals kinda fitted perfectly. Klaras goal was a great combination of Obis fighting sense, a great cross and then maybe on purpose, maybe by accident, a direct header to Klara. And Leas goal was a typical header, again one of Leas strengths.

Still one has to congratulate the Netherlands for a good game. They not only had these big chances, but they were also absolutely strong in the defence. Maybe sometimes not concentrated enough which led to some bad passes and missed chances. But overall the game could have ended differently, if the luck would have been on their side.

There is still a lot to work on, but now the team deserves to celebrate this win and I’m exiting to see, what the future holds. It will also be interesting to see if the next coach will be integrated in the next matches before Olympia. I think it would benefit the team considering that the Euros come after and there aren’t that many international fixtures.

Hope the euphoria is coming with the Bayern girls back to Munich :)

I did some googling and there’s a fucking Van Gogh museum AHHHHH<3333333 AND…okay ramble time there’s this book I like and FUN FACT whenever I would hear about the Netherlands, I would think of this book but now you’re my new association<3333 so yeah in the book they go to Amsterdam and also the painting that’s like the central theme of the book is by a Dutch artist and I looked it up because I was wondering if you guys had it there (I assumed so but you never know) and you DOOOOOOOO I’m losing my mind!!!!!!! That is the coolest fucking thing I’m screaming and at the same museum, they also have girl with the pearl earring. I’m nerding the fuck out. You guys have so much Vermeer I’m jealous (ofc you do bc he’s Dutch but jealous nonetheless) There’s also The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp there which…GOD. WOW. That painting has big you vibes btw haha ANDDDDD there’s a lot of Bosch in your country that’s fucking insane please tell me you’ve seen at least some of these in person. Omg one more funny story about museums there before I stfu, I had to do this project once where I researched a museum and the one I was originally going to choose was KattenKabinet for mine but I think I ended up not choosing it because the website was really hard to navigate. I also was at this outdoor festival the same day and there was this one vendor…oh my god. Literally all I could think about was you being there with me. You would’ve loved it so fucking much baby oh my god. She sold art that was mainly prints and wood burned things and it was all anatomy stuff!!!!! The thing that drew me in was a print of a lobotomy (I’ve had a fixation on those for awhile) and was like omg I have to see more. I can’t attach pictures sadly so I’ll describe to the best of my ability. There was a wood burning of ribs<3333 perfect for you I would’ve gotten you that hehe a lot of anatomical hearts. Skulls. A hand but only the bone parts. Teeth. Various organs I didn’t recognize that you’d recognize in a heartbeat<3 and they aren’t just anatomy for some of them!! Sometimes she includes other natural elements. One that I saw that really made me think of you was this spine growing up from glass surrounded by flowers. Growing up like it almost was like a flower itself. You would’ve found it so beautiful. I saw this large wood burned piece that was just…absolutely fucking captivating. It showed the ribs and intestines and stomach and liver surrounded by colorful flowers and at the edge of the intestines was this honeycomb and a bee on a leaf. I ended up buying a print of it:) and a sticker (you’ll love this) of an anatomical heart that says “eat your heart out” surrounded by Venus fly traps. Oh yeah and I saw this cutting board with an anatomical heart burned in and the words “all food is good food” or something like that which…cannibal coded….imagine you owning that….AKQKQKQJWHSHDHD the way if you were there I would’ve giggled in your ear the second I saw it and nudged you to show you
