NGC 7822 - The Question Mark Nebula I attempted this target earlier in the year using the L-eNhance filter and once I got the L-eXtreme I wanted to give it another go. Captured over 3 nights at the end of imaging sessions, I was able to capture 4.5 hours and it blows my 3 hours with the L-eNhance away. Cocoon Nebula - IC 5146 Located in Cygnus, the IC 5146 is a reflection and emission nebula. I finally decided to put everything together on the Celestron EdgeHD 8 for deep space and do some testing to make sure my guiding worked and that I could reach focus. Guiding was the easy part, focus was the pain. I finally got it and on the first night I captured m27 amd NGC 869, those I will post soon. On night two, I decided to shoot the Cocoon on both my Edge as well as my Meade 80mm Triplet. This here is from the Edge, and though I had some focus drift in the middle of my imaging (can't seem to get the auto focus to do its thing when using my Canon), I am happy with the result, especially considering I did not use any filters. . M31 - The Andomeda Galaxy I have been attempting processes of this target since I began dabbling in astrophotography, 10 months on this data imparticular. Many people have given me tips and ideas, and they have all helped, but learning how to remove stars to process the target and the stars separately has finally given me a final product I am happy with. A reprocess of my Sadr Region & Crescent Nebula data from last Summer - Sadr is the second brightest star in the constellation Cygnus, second only to Deneb. Like Deneb, it is surrounded by beautiful nebula! With this particular image, I processed it in Astro Pixel Processor by extracting the narrowband color channels - Ha, Oii and Sii (Ha-Oiii Mono) and then combining them to create an image in a simulated SHO, aka "Hubble Palette." Since I am using a color camera, it is not a true SHO image, but since I am using a dual narrow band filter, it is a pretty accurate representation. I have had three clear nights within the last week and I feel truly blessed (and tired) because of it. The Bubble Nebula - NGC 7635 I've been shooting this target for a while now in a widefield format -> 480mm, 380mm, and 275mm. Now I've shot it at around 1400mm. I finally got another filter drawer and I decided to test out how long I could shoot using just a guidescope and the longest comfortable time was around 180s. I plan on returning the Canon to the Raptor but I'm glad I was able to get the EdgeHD 8 figured out for the most part. . The Andromeda Galaxy - m31 If you follow me you know that m31, along with the Orion Nebula is one of my great nemesis. I never can seem to get it "right," and to get it better you "need" to do some sort of HDR composite or such. Since I am trying to learn Pixinsight, I decided to throw myself a curveball and attempt adding in Ha from data taken with and L-eXtreme filter with the data I took last year. Unfortunately, the data taken with the L-eXtreme was botched due to a floating piece of dust that moved from frame to frame. Regardless, I gave it a go! Thanks to a tutorial by Visible Dark, I had a direction to take. It's not perfect, it needs more and better Ha data, and I probably need to retake my L-Pro data, but for a first go, I'll take it. . North American Nebula - NGC 7000 My first ever DSO target was the North American Nebula, and in a word, it was bad. I of course was thrilled, my wife was impressed I actually got something (the red stuff) and it began a journey that has pleased me as much as it has frustrated me. I used thus very telescope with a Nikon Z6 and no filter. I habe come full circle now using a dedicated astro camera and a really good narrowband filter. The first two images are processed how I normally do when simulating palletes -> APP then photoshop. The third image began in APP, then I went into pixinsight (which I know absolutely nothing about) then finished up in photoshop. Harvest Moon - 9-9-2022 While the full moon was stealing the soul of my dso images, I decided to capture its soul as well. I know, no dso under a bright moon, but surprisingly, some of my data came alright... more of that later! Lion Nebula - Sh2-132 Located approximately 10,000ly away, in Cepheus, Sharpless 132 is large region rich in HII with star clusters, dark dust and emission nebulae. This is by far my largest and longest project with my new setup and matches the amount of time I put into my mosaic in Cygnus earlier in the summer. With 21 hours total, I feel like I hit right where I wanted to end up time wise, though I do feel like if I went one or two more night I might be able to pull out a little more contrast with less noise. The Pelican Nebula - IC 5070 & 5067 I was finally able to get some spacers to start working on my back focus but nothing I did seemed to help anything. I decided to take off the 16.5mm spacer provided by ZWO and use the 21mm one instead and bam, instantly better. I added an additional 0.6mm spacer to account for the filter and it improved more. I could probably dial it in even better, but for now I am content with how it's working. For this target I was able to get 2.5 hours. My framing wasn't quite what I wanted (still trying to figure out N.I.N.A. but after processing I'm kind of glad it came out this way. . Mosaic in Cygnus - Sadr Region I have been learning how to process by removing stars and adding them back in later and it had been a gamechanger. Typically this has been a straight forward reprocess but for this image, being so large, it was near impossible to clean up the stars from the original edit. Tried starting from scratch but didn't work well, then something clicked last night and I spent 2 hours for 4 edits (processes take a long time on a 10gb PSB file!). In the end. I was able to clean up the stars and get this as a final product. . Cygnus Mosaic - Sadr Region This was my first attempt at a mosaic and I stumbled on to the fact that I could actually do it by accident. My setup isn't perfect for mosaics - full frame mirrorless camera has a lot of vignetting and unflat corners (leading to bad stars in the corners), but I really wanted to try it. Luckily, I got enough clear nights to get enough panels to make it happen. With 21 hours and 20 mins of total integration, this is officially my most time in one image. Each panel is roughly 4 hours worth of data with the Sadr Region panel having 6.5 hours and the panel right below the Tulip Nebula having 3 hours and 20 min. Processing was a real pain, due mostly to my imaging setup but also random light gradients from being in Bortle 8. It's not perfect by any means, but I am happy with the result (doesn't mean I won't be working on trying to make it better!) . 21 hours, 20 min integration Dark, flat, dark flat and bias calibration frames Bortle8 .
