I know Tumblr has glitches every now and then, but to be honest, I feel it has been smooth for me at least during the last 5 months (at least when I login and be active once in a month). Now I come back after 2 months and lmao everything is in shambles

a dust of conflict.
| summary | Aria doesn’t always need to get out. Sometimes, she needs someone to tell her it’s okay to stay.
| word count | 900
| warnings | None
| era | circa. 2019
Tumblr media
“I think you should re-evaluate some things, Akari.”
“I think you need to get out!”
“Clearly there are things more important to you than us, so why aren’t you the one leaving? I’m sure you’ll be just fine on your own, right?”
In lieu of a response there was the slamming of a door and a screamed curse to accompany it, then a heavy, unsettling silence left to fill in the gaps. Jaehyun and Taeil exchanged a look from where they were hiding out in the living room.
The argument between Jungwoo and Aria had been a long time coming - every one of their conversations growing more and more volatile each time they came to butt heads. Despite the older members racking their brains for the why and the how their relationship had deteriorated so quickly, the only thing that they could come up with was the unwritten excuse for all spats between groupmates.
Stress. Lack of sleep. Too much exercise. Lack of downtime. Social media. Not enough food. It was tattooed onto the inside of an idol’s brain the second a pen was put to the dotted line of a contract.
An explanation never made anything easier to stomach, though. Feelings are real and cutting, no matter their point of origin.
Aria stumbled out into the living room, sweater half-pulled over her head with one arm in and one arm out and dragging a barely full backpack behind her. The thunder clouds reigned over her head like a crown, warning away any potential conversation. The deadened look in her eyes offered the promise of another yelling match, although it’s effect was greatly lessoned by the pinkness of her under-eyes, and the snuffles she muffled into her sleeve.
Without hardly a glance towards the other boys huddled in the living room, Aria made her way to leave the dorm. Doyoung exchanged a look with Jaehyun, and they stood up in tandem; Doyoung tasked with soothing Jungwoo, and Jaehyun with wrangling an emotionally-vulnerable Aria.
“Aria! Aria!”
Swinging the backpack over her shoulder, Aria paid Jaehyun no mind as she began to make her way to the hallway of the dorm. She was still dressed in the indoor-leggings she bought a few months ago and then realized she could never wear outside because the material was too thin, and people would be able to see the line of her underwear through it.
Clearly, it wasn’t stopping her now.
“Aria I swear to god-” Jaehyun extended a hand, grabbing onto her shoulder and spun her around to face him. The tear tracks were glistening in the overhead lights, and her eyes were red and puffy.
“You know he didn’t mean it.” Jaehyun breathed, hand clenched in the fabric of Aria’s sweater. It was one of her own, this time, which was rare. She normally went for another member’s hoodies when she was feeling upset - something about how they always smelled like home.
Jaehyun was going to deck Jungwoo after this.
No, he wasn’t, but he was going to think about doing it and not feel bad.
“Maybe he didn’t mean it, but I still don’t think I should be here right now.” Aria ran a sweater-covered hand over her face, trying and failing to clean up the mess of tears over her cheeks as more spilled over her waterline to replace them.
Jaehyun’s fingers gripped tighter. “No, what you should be doing is staying here, with us. Taeyong hyung said he’d make dinner tonight, remember? This is the first time we’ve all been back in time for a ‘family dinner’ night, so you can’t leave now!”
Internally, he winced. He hated using excuses to get Aria to do things, but oftentimes it was the only way to get her to listen to reason. She didn’t care too much about her own safety (Honestly, what was she thinking? Leaving the apartment at 9 o’clock with a backpack) but she did care about commitments and keeping promises.
“You promised you’d be back in time from training, right?” Jaehyun pushed further, feeling like he was digging nails into his own skin.
Aria dropped his gaze, finding the cracks in the floorboard much more interesting than anything written on Jaehyun’s face.
“I don’t think it’ll be okay for me to stay tonight, I think I should go, oppa.” She finally mumbled out, the fight seeping from her shoulders as her bag slipped off to the side.
“And if I tell you it is?”
“Where would you go?”
Johnny and Yuta spoke at the same time, both looking at each other in mild surprise.
Aria blinked once, twice, before bursting out into renewed tears. Jaehyun floundered for a moment before settling on shoving Aria’s backpack away from her body and into Yuta’s arms, pulling her into his arms.
“Ari,” Jaehyun soothed, wrapping her into his chest. “Ari, you know you can stay here. Hell, I still don’t get why you think you can’t. It’s your home here too.”
Aria’s response was a blubbered mess, and Jaehyun really didn’t have the sense of mind to attempt to dismantle it.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. Jungwoo didn’t mean it, you know he didn’t.” Jaehyun rocked her side to side as they slowly dropped to the floor.

The new media in five years the types of new media in five years
-Jomari Avila
Mass media comprises of two parts; print media and the  broadcast or also known as electronic media. The print media refers primarily to newspapers and magazines. Radio, television and the Internet constitute the broadcast media. Mass media  is simply a section of the  media that spreads to a large audience simultaneously, through various types of media. The simplest way to understand what mass media is about is to take a look at newspapers. The first high-circulation newspapers arose in the eastern United States in the early 1800s, and were made possible by the invention of high-speed rotary steam printing presses and railroads which allowed large-scale distribution over wide geographical areas. However, mass production of newspapers had a downfall. The increased rate of circulation led to deteriorate in feedback and interactivity from the readers. Which made newspapers a one-way medium. Print media and Broadcast media do very critical purposes in day's world. They both provide us data, which range from the latest information updates to the newest commodities on this industry. Print media and broadcast media provide us with content that we could otherwise not make right to. This duration of information differs significantly in both photo and broadcast media.
"writing era" is a point in human history that now predated the arrival of mass media and started with the presentation of published  texts and lasted until the printing revolution. Media and community from the process of language to the Internet Certainly, before work emerged as a form of speech, humans drew cave pictures and created sculptures, pottery, jewellery, and other forms of visual language. This spread of work, however, as a way of documenting philosophy, everyday life, administration, laws, and business dealings was the necessary precursor to the print revolution. Personal and technological restrictions of this period prevented the printed word from turning into a mass communication, as texts were painstakingly reproduced by hand or reproduced slowly using basic printing technology, wood cutouts. Nowadays, we sleep in the reality of converging media where all modes of connection and data are continually shifting this means mass media and consumers" print manufacturers and audiences, radio broadcasters and listeners, TV broadcasters and viewers, social media channels, and machine applications and users of applications" create, eat, discover about, and act with each different and content resources. With this distribution of the Internet and mobile connections, people today have this ways to make and disseminate their personal messages of (redistribute on-line) messages from others. Nowadays, people are more likely to believe themselves, their homes, and their societies for knowledge than conventional news outlets.

Making Mental Health Visible
Growing up is inevitable and so are the changes both mentally and physically that come along with it. Unfortunately, “1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year” (National Alliance on Mental Illness) mental illnesses are also inevitable and if not understood could cause harm to not only the person involved but people around them. Poets like Edgar Allen Poe and Sylvia Plath paved the way for a future wave of young millennials and Gen-Z’s, making poetry by talking about their own struggles in mental health. These poets works along with others, have contributed to today’s growing conversation about a topic that used to be so taboo.
The “Yellow Wallpaper” was one of those short stories. Written by Charlotte Perkins Stetson, the “Yellow Wallpaper” is in fact a series of diary entries written by the narrator herself, Charlotte. In the beginning of the diary entries, Charlotte begins to open up about her sickness. Charlotte’s husband John, whom is a physician, is described as “practical in the extreme.” John believes what his wife is experiencing is that she just has “temporary nervous depression- a slight hysterical tendency.”  He has “no patience for faith, an intense horror of superstition, and scoffs openly at any talk of things not to be felt and seen and put down in figures.” John also forbids his wife to work until she is well again. Charlotte believes because of this, she isn’t getting well “faster,” making the reader assume these diary entries were kept secret and hidden from the narrators husband.  In the narrators diary entries she goes into depth on the room she is constrained to while her health rapidly deteriorates, which happens to be a nursery. In Charlotte’s diary entries on the room, it is very clear she hates the room, specifically the yellow wallpaper. Charlotte writes negatively on everything around her, up to the color of the yellow wallpaper, “I never saw a worse paper in my life.” The entries continue on and on about the mysteries of this “revolting’ yellow wallpaper causing the narrators depression and nervous tension to only grow stronger.
Charlotte Perkins Stetson opened up about her mental health after succumbing to depression. She lived in a time where mental illness wasn’t taken seriously. “A good many people are beginning to realize that nervous diseases are alarmingly on the increase …. ‘Nerves are the most ‘prominent' complaint of the 19th century,’ wrote one reporter in an 1887 issue of the Boston Globe” (Holtzman). Up to the time of the late 19th century, “ there were various attempts to improve the condition of those detained in asylums, and various Acts of Parliament passed by champions of the cause”(NHS).
Today a new wave of conversation surrounding mental illness are led by the controversial    Netflix Original show based off of the novel, Thirteen Reasons Why. Thirteen Reasons Why is a current three season show that goes deep into topics about depression, anxiety, and drug abuse; even going as far as showing main character, Hannah Baker, slitting her wrists in the first season.
The show is so controversial, because it revolves around the theme of Hannah’s suicide and the aftermath of her death. In season two, Clay Jensen, another main character, started hallucinating Hannah Baker talking to him, and he would talk back, long after her death. This sparked up a controversial debate on whether or not the show was portraying suicide seriously, as someone who has committed suicide does not come back and talk to someone, in fact, they don’t come back at all. Showing an unrealistic portrayal of what happens after you commit suicide could pose to be harmful for impressionable audiences. However, the fact that suicide is being talked about or even shown on a major media network such as Netflix, shows major improvement on the teachings of mental illness and/or suicide, “Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-34 in the U.S”(NAMI).
Other examples come from a young adult, Rupi Kaur and her various collections of poetry that have been inspired by her struggles with mental illness. Kaur’s first collection of poems, Milk and Honey, became a New York Time’s bestseller and the best-selling adult book in 2017. Milk and Honey was derived from Kaur’s experiences with the chapters representing four phases, “The Hurting, The Loving, The Breaking, The Healing.” Kaur produced a raw account of her emotions by turning them into art that young adults could easily empathize with or relate to. Readers can do this by Kaur having the ability to make each piece of poetry very concise yet empowering
To young women. For example, of one of her pieces of poetry from “Milk and Honey” reads, “stay strong through your pain grow flowers from it you have helped me grow flowers out of mine so bloom beautifully dangerously, loudly ,softly, however you need just bloom.”
However, it may be portrayed whether in a series of diary entries from Gildman slowly going mad, a graphic controversial book and show such as “Thirteen Reasons Why”, or short but sweet collections of poetry by Rupi Kaur, mental illness, nevertheless, is important to talk about because in some cases if not taken seriously can lead to many more problems down the road. Though we may have come far from mental illness being treated as a joke, it still isn’t talked about as much or as seriously as it should be in this era of social media. Too often mental health is used in corrupt ways as simply as telling a little white lie when in reality, there are people all around us that could be suffering with or without diagnosis.
To summarize, mental health will always need progress, whether to know more about yourself or to help take care of those around you who may show symptoms. Steps are being taken to bring the subject into a brighter light, there is way more progress to be built on this topic. Hopefully for the future we will be more concerned and aware of any and all mental disabilities to prevent things such as suicide and provide additional help and knowledge to those in need.

Welcome to the experience.
Welcome to The Change. This is the official blog for the Transmedia experience ‘The Change’. The Change is a fictional environmental organisation that plays a crucial part in the worlds survival after humans destroyed the earth through selfish means, such as over farming, pollution and the mass production of unnecessary items.
The world didn’t look to dissimilar to how the real world looks today. People live in a fast past culture where they wanted things quickly and would get them immediately without any idea of the consequence. Living in a throw away society is damaging to the worlds environment because of the unnecessary waste and pollution was being created purely because of peoples ‘wants’ so the organisation decided to make a drastic move, and stop all production of what they deemed to be unnecessary items. They wanted the world to move into a post-industrial era, so they could try to reverse some of the damage we’d already had on the environment.
But The Change had another focus, us. Over the years of damaging the environment and continuing to eat genetically modified meat, we’d slowly began to damage our immune systems and it was threatening our the overall life expectancy of humans and the organisation wanted to to focus on fixing this and finding a cure. So, they provided individual housing for everyone in the hope that separating and containing everyone would give the organisation the space and time to clean up the world as well as work together collectively to find something to improve the deterioration of the immune system.
You can explore more on this narrative by visiting the active websites and social media accounts to find out information about The Change.
This blog will help you to depict the narrative and have a greater understanding of the experience. You can contribute to the narrative, get involved with the experience by sharing it with your friends.

Future of Java Technology
What do you think is the future of Java Technology?
When Java was designed originally as OAK even its designers were not sure in which route the technological innovation will develop. And actually Java has taken a surprising turn around as a growth technological innovation. It began its trip with included programs but individuals found it somewhat slowly when evaluate to C++. Java made venture into web by means of applets and decided the world for some time. But then came business era with campaign of .NET and J2EE.
The Core:
Some individuals say there is no need of individual core Java, which is now known as J2SE. J2SE consist of core Java elements and collections like core terminology collection, resources, SWT, Move, Social media, Protection etc.
For Dense Clients:
Now-a-day individuals expect great efficiency from programs which are organised over the net on some distant web servers. Applying thick customer is one of the alternatives to accomplish better efficiency for such programs. Dense customer means the execution where customer itself provides out some functions without disturbing server for tiny problems. Java applets are most aggressive applicant for thick customers. They can offer full-fledged stand-alone features even though downloadable from a distant server.
As a Base:
To create innovative elements and resources one always need to use the system collection. J2SE provides basic collections like terminology functions, resources as well as networking APIs. Even J2EE and other Java technological innovation are prolonged or designed over the top of such system collections. With the modifying times, J2SE or Primary Java is not going to lose its significance.
For Desktop:
Sometimes back individuals began to believe that Java is intended for web programs only. Java still can make it’s indicate as growth technological innovation for stand-along programs. The only disadvantage of Java for pc programs is deteriorated efficiency. Contemporary components can easily get over this disadvantage. But at the same time Java comes with many advantages that is applicable to take a position alone programs too, like system freedom, scalability, easy to sustain, versatility etc.
Enterprise:
The business way of Java, which is known as J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition), is the most popular Java structure in use in modern situation. J2EE is a mixture of many technological innovation included together to type a package, which offers everything that is required to create a business application. It comes with functions like versatility, scalability, item alignment, security, determination, caching, efficiency adjusting and many more.

United States Of Turmoil
The importance of being present, not in your interior being but a physical presence that is seen and heard. But what does this do for you as an individual person? Does being seen give you anymore authority than you have now?
We seem to know the boundaries of our lives without stepping over the line. How did this willingness to be defeated in our world even before you have touched your inner consciousness with your personal foundation of your truth just beginning?
Constant conditioning in childhood forced you to accept becoming a part of a group. Never separate from the conformity of your societal peers. And this of course made it easier for the wealthy to begin the dismantling of the middle class and to influence dirty politicians through money contribution to do their biding in our so called freedom of choice in this new era of manipulating oligarchs.
Why haven’t people realized that the new mouthpieces for our two party system, which is a crime against democracy but that is the way the elites of avarice want it by limiting choices so they can keep a reign on all the politicians that do whatever they demand even though it crushes people lives and destroys the future freedom of ideas that can help society create a better life for all and not this vocabulary of controlling lies against other innocent human beings.
All candidates start off promising their constituents the moon but once in office they understand pretty quickly that if they want to stay in office they better toe the line and do what they are told or powers that be will buy an up and coming new politician willing to do all that is asked of him no matter how criminal it is.
What choices are we free to choose when we are given a narrow means of escaping the bombardment of lies curious truth.
In today’s society everything is made with a price tag on it so the minions will feel like they are the new hipsters, the new cool and the young will follow like vultures looking for a place to rob, but of course they will follow the laws that are made now by the elites of crime.
Why did you become a repeating voice mouthing what others say as your truth? Our society is built on conformity. Conformity of your mind and your physical presence. You are the workforce, the patsy that works without knowing why and for who. It is just something you were born too. And it is harder now than ever to walk away from the controlling force of greed ingrained in the constitution of the united states of corporations.
As we move further into the technology of manipulation and deceit we will become even more afraid to stand up and fight the powers of money and to survive our individuality keeps a consistent facade of acceptance, not willing to become any more than just a body that pays his taxes on time. We are afraid to rock the boat of power that controls our lives on all levels of our existence.
We endure our lives in anger and depression because we are unable to see our inner insights as our truths. We are controlled through our indoctrination into a supposedly free society only to find that the wealthy rigged the game and put the blame on the very people they took advantage of. The powers that be are con artists creating a visual picture of their status with extravagant parties and beautiful mansions as a means to control the populace wit envy. What have the offspring of these historic con men and women done in their life time that could match they're founding fathers? If anything the children of the rich have become even more arrogant and compulsive in destroying lives and killing this planet.
The hypocrisy of money is an illusion bought and sold to the people as a over priced reality show that cannot be cancelled.
The fact that we objectified ourselves by taking selfies creates a lessening of you being present. What purpose is taking an image of yourself when the external world is waiting to be discovered. What do you do of such monumental importance that you take your eye away from a beautiful scene and turn the camera to you as if you were a star just being noticed. We all want to be seen and heard and we all want praise of our living presence but to take pics of yourself is just plain egotistical. And that is exactly what is happening to mankind. Our egos have been exposed to the ease of producing ourselves for others to see. Social media becomes the vehicle to lose sight of your personal self and surroundings and to exploit yourself as if you were a god sent to earth to save mankind. Ego generated hypocrisy that will lead to the deteriorating knowledge of your inner self. You my friend are being exploited, distracted from your life by posting on social media as if that had anything to do with your real life, your real presence in your own unique skin. You have been snookered and conned into thinking that these presentations of yourself is actually you not an addiction to being physically scene not as who you are but who you want to escape to become.
You no longer write your own inner truth to this crumbling world of no values but hide behind disguises that shadow your lost intuition replaced now with an ego that thinks only of what’s in it for me.
Our democratic representatives are looking to do their normal bait and switch by telling the wonderful things they will do for us in office when in fact we know if we don’t get a new group of honest people who care about fairness in this monopoly greedfest of the few against the many we will never break through the animalistic personalities of these men and women of godly egos.
What is the democratic party? What do they stand for, if they can’t connect with the majority of people in their own country? Where is their truth of consciousness, where has our freedoms been since the American Revolutionary War, where else but in the hands of the new American wealthy that wanted to break from Great Britain so they could collect taxes directly from its citizens and exploit the inhuman treatment of slaves! We have always existed under the thumb of the greedy but now it is as plain as the tears flowing in the misery of our incompetent leaders who don’t even try and hide their allegiance to their rich patrons bribing them.
The wealthy have always been in power infiltrating every level of our government including the congress, senate, judges, law enforcement, colleges, corporations… and then slowly, methodically strip the American people of their liberties and their hard earned income? It is outrageous and criminal what is being done in this facade of our government of the people for the people. Let us be truthful this is a country by the corporations for the corporations period. We see the fluff that comes out of tv news or should I say scripted news that gives us no info on the wars taking place around the globe promoted and funded by the US, Russia, Saudi Arabia, China, Turkey… and the Military Industrial Companies that are making billions off the killing of innocent men, women and children.
What would god say about this if god actually had a voice instead of being a religious puppet for the prophets of wealthy preachers.
The life we live today is a scam of corporate capitalism whereby the American people are still insulated from the horrors happening in other countries as we sip our covid19 juices not giving a shit about the dark death spreading around the world.
The wealthy have their own news organizations to distract us from the underlining cruelty of these merchants of terror, these egotistical indulgent, buffoons of greed.
We are not in a two party system of democracy we are lead by one party who’s loyalty is the corporations and the ultra-wealthy that suck up our tax dollars and make us, the American people pay their bills as they move their money off shore, paying no taxes that each of the American people must pay or be thrown in jail.
In a society governed by laws it should be obvious that any corporation or wealthy monopolies that don’t pay his/her fair share of taxes should be arrested and put in prison for fraud and money laundering. What kind of a democracy would allow this? Well, we have one and it isn’t a democracy it is an oligarchy. Where a few individuals control the population with intimidation and fear! By allowing the citizens of a country to become overwhelmed with the problems they continually face does one thing very well, it makes people frightened with anxiety so they won’t act to make changes. Instead they must put all their effort into working 2-3 jobs so their children can eat!
All Americans must know that we are losing our freedoms along with our income. Are the oligarchs trying to reduce america to a third world country where the people live in squalor? Is that the answer they demand, that the prosperous bankers foreclose on private properties in order to create an america that doesn’t have any family owned land anymore.
Intimidation of the talking heads spewing bullshit like I have never heard before. Sure there are some egos that used to spout off about the turmoil in the world but they were within the bounds of responsibility. Now there is no responsibility in news media and the radio jocks spewing there paid service to incite a certain group to feel and act a certain way is necessary in order to dupe these once responsible citizens into thinking that someone else, the minorities, the hispanics, the asian invasion, the poor, the elderly or anyone else besides the true culprit pitting the citizens of the US against each other in order to allow the paid politicians to keep passing bills that enhance their wealth on the backs of these very people believing the crack pot talking heads and it seems are looking to blame anyone else besides their own criminal behavior. Listen we are under attack by the politicians bought and sold by the Koch brothers and others that want everything in this universe and no one will have the nerve to take it from them.
But there is more happening now in the syphoning of our precious natural resources and our tax dollars right into the hidden accounts of the 1%.
This criminal activity must stop! We are the people that built this country and must step up and defend ourselves from these criminals that wear the style of celebrities as men and woman of stature. They are common criminals that have been allowed over centuries to accumulate wealth off the backs of workers and now are at a point where they feel embolden to exert even more pressure on our courts and representatives to take even more from the American people and societies worldwide. They are the living embodiment of evil, satan would have a hard time outdoing their violent nature with no sympathy for the killings they do world wide for profit, they must be stopped. We must as a community of people not be intimidated by their power because they have no power but physical power whereby we have the truth and our determination to stand up and confront these mercenaries of greed and put a stop to their destruction of this planet. We will not allow their one sided purpose of choosing money over human beings be our last rites. There are billions now spreading the truth of the destruction of this planet and protesting the grave gluttony of the elites sociopathic nature.
These men and women of egotistical facades are nothing but hollow beings of avarice. Money is their god and the people suffer for their greed.
They have joined forces with other worldwide robber barons, dictators, all with their particular vices for giving pain and suffering to anyone that stands in their way. For they are so unsure of their own being that they must prove themselves by killing innocent men, women and children.
They are attempting to put a strangle hold on the world whereby they will control everything on this planet and we will be forced to serve them anything that stimulates their egos!
They have the politicians in Washington DC do their bidding for them as they stand behind the curtain pulling the strings on their bought puppets as they play the meek, silent game as this planet is sold off for profit. They have mercenaries all over the world fighting battles not for freedom but for their own selfish needs to take the land, to rape and exploit its minerals adding more wealth to their coffers as human beings perish in the dirt fighting to protect their land and heritage.
We have a united network of criminals doing the bidding of the 1% as they move over the globe taking what they want and leaving havoc and destruction in their wake and when filing their limited taxes they will write off the deliberate murdering of people as a business expense that won’t be paid by wealthy corporations, the very people that stole and murdered innocent human beings for profit.

11 Useful Items to Keep Hidden Away in Your Freezer
Tumblr media
Frozen mixed berries | CLICKMANIS/Shutterstock
From cooking fat to freezer cake, these are the items that make cooking easier for Eater editors
For active home cooks or even those who generally dread the task, the freezer deserves credit for helping get dinner (or dessert) on the table. It’s a place that offers a wealth of shortcut meals and snacks, from exceptional frozen dumplings to nostalgic treats like tater tots. Frozen ingredients like chicken stock or marinara sauce can get a home cook most of the way to a finished meal. As long as people know the best way to store and defrost their freezer items, whether they’re cuts of meat or bagels, a freezer is undeniably an indispensable tool, during a pandemic and otherwise.
Here’s a roundup of the useful items Eater editors are most likely to keep hidden away in their freezers.
Cooking fat: Meat isn’t an everyday item in our house, so when we do cook with it, my partner and I like to save every last bit. That means saving the fat. Grease is one of those pesky residuals of cooking that’s harder to dispose of. It really shouldn’t go directly down the drain. Some people wait for it to cool in a container and then pour it in the garbage. However, I recommend saving that flavor. When you cook chicken, duck, bacon, or anything else particularly precious and tasty, save the drippings in a glass container and stick it in the freezer. Then use it in place of butter or oil in your cooking to impart more flavor. Duck fat is particularly tasty for cooking fried eggs at breakfast time. —Brenna Houck, Eater Detroit editor
Ice cube tray and ice cubes: The most important items in my freezer are my two ice cube trays and the ice they hold. Since shelter-in-place has coincided with my pregnancy, I’m drinking a lot of non-alcoholic beverages, each of which is greatly improved by being even colder. I make cheater iced almond milk lattes by stirring drip coffee with ice and then adding more ice and almond milk. I cool down cups of herbal tea I discover I’ve left on the counter and enjoy iced tea. I drink so much more tap water when I remember to put ice cubes in it. The trick: Refill your tray with water every time you take cubes from it. Just make it part of your routine and it’s never empty. —Hillary Dixler Canavan, restaurant editor
Frozen fruit: My biggest freezer staple is frozen fruit, mostly because I love a good smoothie. Great for breakfast or anytime you feel like you need a Vitamin C boost, the secret to a thick, filling smoothie is to use a fresh banana and frozen fruit without adding ice. I just buy the bags frozen from my local grocery store (even tropical fruits like pitaya are now pretty easy to find), but this is also a great way to store those final few strawberries before they go bad. Other uses of fruit in your freezer: cocktail ingredients, drink garnishes, a snack (especially frozen mango). —Erin Russell, Eater Austin associate editor
Dino nuggets: Why eat boring chicken nuggets when you can eat chicken nuggets shaped like dinosaurs? It may be childish, but I will never stop getting a kick out of dino nuggets. It’s an easy lunch on a hectic day; just toss them in the toaster oven. Flip once. I guess you could make a side salad if you’re feeling fancy. But the only required side, as far as I’m concerned, is a dipping sauce — ideally barbecue sauce from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que because (a) it’s good and (b) obviously dino nuggets go best with Dino sauce. —Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Eater Boston editor
Homemade gumbo: Gumbo is one of my favorite meals to make at home, but let’s be real; it’s a project, a cooking task that’s going to clock in at a couple hours before it’s done. Luckily, since there are only two of us at home, making gumbo always means gumbo leftovers, and I don’t think there’s a more satisfying freezer meal for me than a bowl of gumbo that I simply pulled out of the freezer (stored in a quart container) to defrost the night before in the fridge, and reheated for dinner that evening. Gumbo doesn’t really deteriorate significantly in the freezer; all you have to do is throw some rice in the rice cooker, and you have an easy weeknight dinner that totally makes up for all the effort you initially put into making a roux, simmering your ingredients, and just having patience for the gumbo to finish the first time around. —Missy Frederick, cities director
Frozen dinners from mom: Being far away from my family is hard, especially now that I don’t really know when I can safely go back home to New York. Thankfully, I usually have deep-frozen containers of my mother’s home-cooking in my freezer, from my last visit home. Whenever I fly home, my mother usually asks me what foods I want to bring back (my favorites: shrimp and potol, a Bengali pointed gourd; chicken with squash), along with biryani. My mom batch-cooks everything and my dad portions out the food into 16-ounce deli containers, labels each one, and carefully packs everything into a disposable cooler with ice packs, ready to be placed in my overstuffed suitcase. This way, I can hold onto tastes of home even though it’s 1,700+ miles away. —Nadia Chaudhury, Eater Austin editor
Banana ice cream: Forget cookies and cream or chocolate chip cookie dough. Banana is the best ice cream flavor, and I make sure to keep a half-gallon in my freezer at all times. Living in Newark, I’m lucky to be within walking distance of the scoop shop that makes it best: Nasto’s. I have three scoops after dinner every night, always with a drizzle of chocolate syrup, and it’s pure bliss. I understand that ice cream isn’t the most exciting thing in a freezer compared to frozen dumplings or mochi, but the flavor takes me back to sitting on my late grandmother’s balcony in Ankara, where we would split a bowl of fruit — mostly bananas — together. —Esra Erol, senior social media manager
Freezer cake: I don’t remember what life was like before I discovered Freezer Cake. I don’t care to look back on that era. There’s something special about knowing a slice of banana upside-down cake or a thick slab of banana bread is waiting there, whispering my name gently from the back corner of the freezer. In these not-very-sweet times, being able to eat a slice of cake without ever cracking an egg or dirtying a bowl feels like a victory. All you need to do is let whatever cake you’ve so wisely frozen defrost slowly on the counter. Because sometimes turning on the oven is just too much work. —Elazar Sontag, staff writer
Stock: The one thing I always try to have in my freezer is stock. Usually it’s chicken stock, either made from the carcass of a roast chicken or from a big pile of chicken wings I dumped in my Instant Pot, because so many recipes call for it, whether a little bit to help finish a sauce or several cups to make a soup or stew. Homemade stock tastes noticeably better, and since it’s easy to keep in the freezer, making up a big batch doesn’t risk any going to waste. To freeze stock, I measure it out into plastic baggies in rough one or two cup amounts, using a ladle with a half-cup measure on it, and then lie them flat in the freezer one on top of the other, so when they harden, they’re easy to stack. When I need to defrost, I zap a frozen bag for 30 seconds or a minute in the microwave and break off roughly as much as I need, or drop the whole cup or two into the pot. I have endured the shame of throwing out all sorts of things from my freezer, but I have never, ever wasted stock. —Meghan McCarron, special correspondent
Homemade pesto: My frozen secret weapon is an ice cube tray full of homemade pesto. Pesto sauce, to me, is a special thing. Basil is a precious, flavorful commodity that seems expensive if you don’t have a farmers market nearby, and it doesn’t stay for very long either. Pine nuts are also quite pricey, so when I do make a big batch from scratch, I make sure to make it last. Pesto is so flavorful that you don’t need to use a lot for any single dish. That’s where the ice cube tray comes in. Filling a tray with pesto and freezing it into cubes is a trick I learned long ago when Pinterest was new on the scene and basically church for those interested in recipe ideas and hacks. Popping out one or two cubes of pesto as needed is a great way to make use of the sauce you may have made months ago when basil was in season, without having to defrost an entire Tupperware. It’s such an easy and fast way to add flavor to a quick pasta dish, some beans, a sandwich of any kind, and even to make into a vinaigrette for a salad on the fly. —Terri Ciccone, audience development manager
Salted caramel ice cream: If it’s freezer junk food you seek, I present Lotus Biscoff Salted Caramel Ice Cream, something I started hoarding during the pandemic. I swear it’s the softest ice cream I’ve ever found. The instructions even recommend leaving it out for five minutes to soften before you dig in. There is a straight Biscoff cookie version, but I like the salted caramel mixed in. I buy it at Target, and do a search before I venture out to make sure it’s in stock. —Susan Stapleton, Eater Vegas editor
Honorable mentions: Fresh herbs frozen in ice cube trays, bags of pre-peeled garlic, brownies, Eggo waffles, tortellini, peas, pierogis, homemade marinara sauce, cooked beans, rice cakes for stir fries, cookie dough.

Technology is killing you... Slowly
Digital health and wellness blog
Remember when Arnold Schwarzenegger played ‘The Terminator’ back in 1984? Well he has come back for us…. Well not him exactly but phones, gaming consoles and TVs are. As we have advance into the technological world, increasing numbers of very technologically oriented conditions have arose due to the time spent in the digital world. Conditions such as ‘gaming addiction’ and ‘social media addiction’, there's also an increase in physical issues such as ‘Digital eye fatigue’ and ‘text neck’ swarming young adults and kids everywhere.

For this blog, I will begin in the year 1973 as this is when a Motorola researcher and executive Martin Cooper, made the first mobile telephone which was the start of an era. Mobile phones however were not mainstream until 1995 when they were used only for calling people, they had a long antenna and were bulky. Fast forward to the year 2000 and the world's first touchscreen phone came out, the Motorola which had a simple black and white touchscreen which allowed easier access to more features. Next came the iPhone in 2007 which was the first advanced touchscreen phone, and it had an operating system which was the first of its kind also according to Chowdhury, Rahul 2014.
Technology is taking over our lives, whether it is bad for you depends on the amount of time you spend on it. According to the University of California researchers, we are taking in about 3 times more information everyday than the average person 50 years ago. Although technology has given us the ability to multitask like watching TV and doing work, it makes us feel more efficient but research shows that it has the opposite effect. Apparently the multitasking participants, according to Science magazine in 2011, had trouble filtering out irrelevant information than those who focused on one task at a time. Therefore we ‘forget’ information in essence as it is not  relevant to what we are doing, however we struggle to recall this information, which shows that our memory is deteriorating faster. (Everydayhealth, 2017)
Sleep deprivation is a side effect of technology, as we are spending much more time each day using it. Young adults need about 9 hours of sleep each day, but are spending most nights gaming, texting and watching TV, this leads to students struggling to focus and cope with social pressures. (Everydayhealth, 2017)

Overuse of technology such as gaming consoles and laptops have caused many problems in muscles and joints from repetitive movements in their fingers and wrists and back problems from spending endless hours on end slouched over gaming. (Everydayhealth, 2017)

Social media is a very powerful tool that allows younger people to have their views and opinions expressed so they feel more like an active citizen. However a problem of over sharing has arisen, but lets us chose to filter out the bad bits, showing people only what you want them to see. This allows young impressionable kids to compare their life to others who appear to have a ‘perfect life’ which leads to low self esteem. A study done by psychologist Dr Paula Durlofsky to try and find the perfect balance between real life relationships and virtual ones which demonstrated a correlation between the use of social media excessively and depression.
Another study between amount of time spent on Facebook and body dysmorphia by Dr Bryony Bamford indicated that the more time spent on Facebook the higher the chance that subject had body dysmorphia, which in turn can also lead to depression. (Herrera, Brayan 2016)
The longer you are sitting around in front of a TV or computer has been linked to premature deaths according to a study by physiologist Marc Hamilton, Ph.D, his 2015 study proves this. Woman who sit at computers for more than 6 hours a day were 37% more likely to die during the time frame that was studied than those who sat fewer than three hours a day according to an American Cancer Society that followed 123,000 adults for 14 years. (Everydayhealth, 2017)
The combination of the iPhone and the Facebook app launching for it, was the start of the social media addiction. The ease of access people had to the app and to be able to upload pictures of themselves really kicked off the social media craze. The satisfaction of receiving loads likes on one of their selfies releasing the dopamine from their brains, people just couldn't get enough. Fast forward 2018 and the problem has only intensified due to the introduction of other social media apps such as Instagram and twitter.

From a 2018 global study done by the US National Library of Medicine showed that between 2011 and 2017 that 259 people died from trying to take the ‘Perfect selfie’ (Newsbeat, BBC 2018). An example of one of these deaths is a 19 year old American tourist Gavin Zimmerman, a mormon missionary from Utah fell off a cliff in New South Wales, Australia. In many asian countries, there are internet cafes where gamers can go to play. In Taiwan, a bloke called Chen Rong-yu, who was addicted to League of Legends, where he would frequently visit internet cafes to play. One day he took his addiction that one step too far where he sat down and had a 23 hour session, already suffering with a heart condition, the combination of this, fatigue, minimal movement and cold temperatures overcame him, he apparently suffered a heart attack whist mid game with his hands still on the keyboard and mouse. (Nguyen, Lisa 2017)

However, as much as technology has bad impact on our health, it has helped us in various ways, from saving our life to reuniting us with lost family. The 2 major areas technology has had an impact on in healthcare would be the quality of life and more healthcare jobs. It has brought about the decline of preventable deaths and a general improvement of a patients well-being with the treatment and recovery time of patients being shortened massively. Jobs like EEG technologists, MRI technologists and surgical technologists are uncommon and because they have excellent wages, people are choosing them as long term career paths. Due to bioengineering being a fairly new job prospect, the openings for them have been steadily increasing. (aimseducation 2015)
An example of modern technology would be during the Japan 2011 earthquake and tsunami relief fund. A 8.9 magnitude earthquake, one of the largest in recorded history destroyed Japanese telecommunication, therefore there was no way of communicating to the outside world, apart from social media. People were sending SMS and live videos onto social media platforms. Minute to minute updates on tsunami alerts, rescheduled trains, emergency numbers and shelters for people. Around 15,000 YouTube videos were uploaded to the platform of during and after the disaster spreading awareness to people around the world. There is no doubt that social media saved lives in this case from reuniting families to helping people escape the center of destruction zones.  (Lourens, Stephan 2012)
To conclude, there are clear and prominent side effects that come from technology, however these can be avoided by regulating the time you spend on it and how you allow social media to control your life. It is all about self control with technology, if you can’t control yourself then be prepared to live with the consequences. Or you can take advantage of technology and use it for its intended uses, and thrive in life. Through researching, I have learned a lot myself which has helped to motivate me change myself  for the better, and if you spend as much time online as I do then I recommend you do too. While discussing this topic with one of my flatmates he compared the internet to chocolate, too much can make you sick und fat, but in regulation it can be beneficial.
I have found a quiz that can determine whether or not you have an addiction to the online world, take the test using the link below to find out!

11 Useful Items to Keep Hidden Away in Your Freezer

Hito SteyerlIn - Defense of the Poor Image
The poor image is a copy in motion. Its quality is bad, its resolution substandard. As it accelerates, it deteriorates. It is a ghost of an image, a preview, a thumbnail, an errant idea, an itinerant image distributed for free, squeezed through slow digital connections, compressed, reproduced, ripped, remixed, as well as copied and pasted into other channels of distribution.
The poor image is a rag or a rip; an AVI or a JPEG, a lumpen proletarian in the class society of appearances, ranked and valued according to its resolution. The poor image has been uploaded, downloaded, shared, reformatted, and reedited. It transforms quality into accessibility, exhibition value into cult value, films into clips, contemplation into distraction. The image is liberated from the vaults of cinemas and archives and thrust into digital uncertainty, at the expense of its own substance. The poor image tends towards abstraction: it is a visual idea in its very becoming.
The poor image is an illicit fifth-generation bastard of an original image. Its genealogy is dubious. Its filenames are deliberately misspelled. It often defies patrimony, national culture, or indeed copyright. It is passed on as a lure, a decoy, an index, or as a reminder of its former visual self. It mocks the promises of digital technology. Not only is it often degraded to the point of being just a hurried blur, one even doubts whether it could be called an image at all. Only digital technology could produce such a dilapidated image in the first place.
Poor images are the contemporary Wretched of the Screen, the debris of audiovisual production, the trash that washes up on the digital economies’ shores. They testify to the violent dislocation, transferrals, and displacement of images—their acceleration and circulation within the vicious cycles of audiovisual capitalism. Poor images are dragged around the globe as commodities or their effigies, as gifts or as bounty. They spread pleasure or death threats, conspiracy theories or bootlegs, resistance or stultification. Poor images show the rare, the obvious, and the unbelievable—that is, if we can still manage to decipher it.

1. Low Resolutions
In one of Woody Allen’s films the main character is out of focus.1 It’s not a technical problem but some sort of disease that has befallen him: his image is consistently blurred. Since Allen’s character is an actor, this becomes a major problem: he is unable to find work. His lack of definition turns into a material problem. Focus is identified as a class position, a position of ease and privilege, while being out of focus lowers one’s value as an image.
The contemporary hierarchy of images, however, is not only based on sharpness, but also and primarily on resolution. Just look at any electronics store and this system, described by Harun Farocki in a notable 2007 interview, becomes immediately apparent.2In the class society of images, cinema takes on the role of a flagship store. In flagship stores high-end products are marketed in an upscale environment. More affordable derivatives of the same images circulate as DVDs, on broadcast television or online, as poor images.
Obviously, a high-resolution image looks more brilliant and impressive, more mimetic and magic, more scary and seductive than a poor one. It is more rich, so to speak. Now, even consumer formats are increasingly adapting to the tastes of cineastes and esthetes, who insisted on 35 mm film as a guarantee of pristine visuality. The insistence upon analog film as the sole medium of visual importance resounded throughout discourses on cinema, almost regardless of their ideological inflection. It never mattered that these high-end economies of film production were (and still are) firmly anchored in systems of national culture, capitalist studio production, the cult of mostly male genius, and the original version, and thus are often conservative in their very structure. Resolution was fetishized as if its lack amounted to castration of the author. The cult of film gauge dominated even independent film production. The rich image established its own set of hierarchies, with new technologies offering more and more possibilities to creatively degrade it.

2. Resurrection (as Poor Images)
But insisting on rich images also had more serious consequences. A speaker at a recent conference on the film essay refused to show clips from a piece by Humphrey Jennings because no proper film projection was available. Although there was at the speaker’s disposal a perfectly standard DVD player and video projector, the audience was left to imagine what those images might have looked like.
In this case the invisibility of the image was more or less voluntary and based on aesthetic premises. But it has a much more general equivalent based on the consequences of neoliberal policies. Twenty or even thirty years ago, the neoliberal restructuring of media production began slowly obscuring non-commercial imagery, to the point where experimental and essayistic cinema became almost invisible. As it became prohibitively expensive to keep these works circulating in cinemas, so were they also deemed too marginal to be broadcast on television. Thus they slowly disappeared not just from cinemas, but from the public sphere as well. Video essays and experimental films remained for the most part unseen save for some rare screenings in metropolitan film museums or film clubs, projected in their original resolution before disappearing again into the darkness of the archive.
This development was of course connected to the neoliberal radicalization of the concept of culture as commodity, to the commercialization of cinema, its dispersion into multiplexes, and the marginalization of independent filmmaking. It was also connected to the restructuring of global media industries and the establishment of monopolies over the audiovisual in certain countries or territories. In this way, resistant or non-conformist visual matter disappeared from the surface into an underground of alternative archives and collections, kept alive only by a network of committed organizations and individuals, who would circulate bootlegged VHS copies amongst themselves. Sources for these were extremely rare—tapes moved from hand to hand, depending on word of mouth, within circles of friends and colleagues. With the possibility to stream video online, this condition started to dramatically change. An increasing number of rare materials reappeared on publicly accessible platforms, some of them carefully curated (Ubuweb) and some just a pile of stuff (YouTube).
At present, there are at least twenty torrents of Chris Marker’s film essays available online. If you want a retrospective, you can have it. But the economy of poor images is about more than just downloads: you can keep the files, watch them again, even reedit or improve them if you think it necessary. And the results circulate. Blurred AVI files of half-forgotten masterpieces are exchanged on semi-secret P2P platforms. Clandestine cell-phone videos smuggled out of museums are broadcast on YouTube. DVDs of artists’ viewing copies are bartered.3 Many works of avant-garde, essayistic, and non-commercial cinema have been resurrected as poor images. Whether they like it or not.
3. Privatization and Piracy
That rare prints of militant, experimental, and classical works of cinema as well as video art reappear as poor images is significant on another level. Their situation reveals much more than the content or appearance of the images themselves: it also reveals the conditions of their marginalization, the constellation of social forces leading to their online circulation as poor images.4 Poor images are poor because they are not assigned any value within the class society of images—their status as illicit or degraded grants them exemption from its criteria. Their lack of resolution attests to their appropriation and displacement.5
Obviously, this condition is not only connected to the neoliberal restructuring of media production and digital technology; it also has to do with the post-socialist and postcolonial restructuring of nation states, their cultures, and their archives. While some nation states are dismantled or fall apart, new cultures and traditions are invented and new histories created. This obviously also affects film archives—in many cases, a whole heritage of film prints is left without its supporting framework of national culture. As I once observed in the case of a film museum in Sarajevo, the national archive can find its next life in the form of a video-rental store.6 Pirate copies seep out of such archives through disorganized privatization. On the other hand, even the British Library sells off its contents online at astronomical prices.
As Kodwo Eshun has noted, poor images circulate partly in the void left by state-cinema organizations who find it too difficult to operate as a 16/35-mm archive or to maintain any kind of distribution infrastructure in the contemporary era.7 From this perspective, the poor image reveals the decline and degradation of the film essay, or indeed any experimental and non-commercial cinema, which in many places was made possible because the production of culture was considered a task of the state. Privatization of media production gradually grew more important than state controlled/sponsored media production. But, on the other hand, the rampant privatization of intellectual content, along with online marketing and commodification, also enable piracy and appropriation; it gives rise to the circulation of poor images.
Chris Marker’s virtual home on Second Life, May 29, 2009.
4. Imperfect Cinema
The emergence of poor images reminds one of a classic Third Cinema manifesto, For an Imperfect Cinema, by Juan García Espinosa, written in Cuba in the late 1960s.8 Espinosa argues for an imperfect cinema because, in his words, “perfect cinema—technically and artistically masterful—is almost always reactionary cinema.” The imperfect cinema is one that strives to overcome the divisions of labor within class society. It merges art with life and science, blurring the distinction between consumer and producer, audience and author. It insists upon its own imperfection, is popular but not consumerist, committed without becoming bureaucratic.
In his manifesto, Espinosa also reflects on the promises of new media. He clearly predicts that the development of video technology will jeopardize the elitist position of traditional filmmakers and enable some sort of mass film production: an art of the people. Like the economy of poor images, imperfect cinema diminishes the distinctions between author and audience and merges life and art. Most of all, its visuality is resolutely compromised: blurred, amateurish, and full of artifacts.
In some way, the economy of poor images corresponds to the description of imperfect cinema, while the description of perfect cinema represents rather the concept of cinema as a flagship store. But the real and contemporary imperfect cinema is also much more ambivalent and affective than Espinosa had anticipated. On the one hand, the economy of poor images, with its immediate possibility of worldwide distribution and its ethics of remix and appropriation, enables the participation of a much larger group of producers than ever before. But this does not mean that these opportunities are only used for progressive ends. Hate speech, spam, and other rubbish make their way through digital connections as well. Digital communication has also become one of the most contested markets—a zone that has long been subjected to an ongoing original accumulation and to massive (and, to a certain extent, successful) attempts at privatization.
The networks in which poor images circulate thus constitute both a platform for a fragile new common interest and a battleground for commercial and national agendas. They contain experimental and artistic material, but also incredible amounts of porn and paranoia. While the territory of poor images allows access to excluded imagery, it is also permeated by the most advanced commodification techniques. While it enables the users’ active participation in the creation and distribution of content, it also drafts them into production. Users become the editors, critics, translators, and (co-)authors of poor images.
Poor images are thus popular images—images that can be made and seen by the many. They express all the contradictions of the contemporary crowd: its opportunism, narcissism, desire for autonomy and creation, its inability to focus or make up its mind, its constant readiness for transgression and simultaneous submission.9 Altogether, poor images present a snapshot of the affective condition of the crowd, its neurosis, paranoia, and fear, as well as its craving for intensity, fun, and distraction. The condition of the images speaks not only of countless transfers and reformattings, but also of the countless people who cared enough about them to convert them over and over again, to add subtitles, reedit, or upload them.
In this light, perhaps one has to redefine the value of the image, or, more precisely, to create a new perspective for it. Apart from resolution and exchange value, one might imagine another form of value defined by velocity, intensity, and spread. Poor images are poor because they are heavily compressed and travel quickly. They lose matter and gain speed. But they also express a condition of dematerialization, shared not only with the legacy of conceptual art but above all with contemporary modes of semiotic production.10 Capital’s semiotic turn, as described by Felix Guattari,11 plays in favor of the creation and dissemination of compressed and flexible data packages that can be integrated into ever-newer combinations and sequences.12
Thomas Ruff,
jpeg rl104
, 2007.
This flattening-out of visual content—the concept-in-becoming of the images—positions them within a general informational turn, within economies of knowledge that tear images and their captions out of context into the swirl of permanent capitalist deterritorialization.13 The history of conceptual art describes this dematerialization of the art object first as a resistant move against the fetish value of visibility. Then, however, the dematerialized art object turns out to be perfectly adapted to the semioticization of capital, and thus to the conceptual turn of capitalism.14 In a way, the poor image is subject to a similar tension. On the one hand, it operates against the fetish value of high resolution. On the other hand, this is precisely why it also ends up being perfectly integrated into an information capitalism thriving on compressed attention spans, on impression rather than immersion, on intensity rather than contemplation, on previews rather than screenings.
5. Comrade, what is your visual bond today?
But, simultaneously, a paradoxical reversal happens. The circulation of poor images creates a circuit, which fulfills the original ambitions of militant and (some) essayistic and experimental cinema—to create an alternative economy of images, an imperfect cinema existing inside as well as beyond and under commercial media streams. In the age of file-sharing, even marginalized content circulates again and reconnects dispersed worldwide audiences.
The poor image thus constructs anonymous global networks just as it creates a shared history. It builds alliances as it travels, provokes translation or mistranslation, and creates new publics and debates. By losing its visual substance it recovers some of its political punch and creates a new aura around it. This aura is no longer based on the permanence of the “original,” but on the transience of the copy. It is no longer anchored within a classical public sphere mediated and supported by the frame of the nation state or corporation, but floats on the surface of temporary and dubious data pools.15 By drifting away from the vaults of cinema, it is propelled onto new and ephemeral screens stitched together by the desires of dispersed spectators.
The circulation of poor images thus creates “visual bonds,” as Dziga Vertov once called them.15 This “visual bond” was, according to Vertov, supposed to link the workers of the world with each other.16 He imagined a sort of communist, visual, Adamic language that could not only inform or entertain, but also organize its viewers. In a sense, his dream has come true, if mostly under the rule of a global information capitalism whose audiences are linked almost in a physical sense by mutual excitement, affective attunement, and anxiety.
But there is also the circulation and production of poor images based on cell phone cameras, home computers, and unconventional forms of distribution. Its optical connections—collective editing, file sharing, or grassroots distribution circuits—reveal erratic and coincidental links between producers everywhere, which simultaneously constitute dispersed audiences.
The circulation of poor images feeds into both capitalist media assembly lines and alternative audiovisual economies. In addition to a lot of confusion and stupefaction, it also possibly creates disruptive movements of thought and affect. The circulation of poor images thus initiates another chapter in the historical genealogy of nonconformist information circuits: Vertov’s “visual bonds,” the internationalist workers pedagogies that Peter Weiss described in The Aesthetics of Resistance, the circuits of Third Cinema and Tricontinentalism, of non-aligned filmmaking and thinking. The poor image—ambivalent as its status may be—thus takes its place in the genealogy of carbon-copied pamphlets, cine-train agit-prop films, underground video magazines and other nonconformist materials, which aesthetically often used poor materials. Moreover, it reactualizes many of the historical ideas associated with these circuits, among others Vertov’s idea of the visual bond.
Imagine somebody from the past with a beret asking you, “Comrade, what is your visual bond today?”
You might answer: it is this link to the present.
6. Now!
The poor image embodies the afterlife of many former masterpieces of cinema and video art. It has been expelled from the sheltered paradise that cinema seems to have once been.17 After being kicked out of the protected and often protectionist arena of national culture, discarded from commercial circulation, these works have become travelers in a digital no-man’s land, constantly shifting their resolution and format, speed and media, sometimes even losing names and credits along the way.
Now many of these works are back—as poor images, I admit. One could of course argue that this is not the real thing, but then—please, anybody—show me this real thing.
The poor image is no longer about the real thing—the originary original. Instead, it is about its own real conditions of existence: about swarm circulation, digital dispersion, fractured and flexible temporalities. It is about defiance and appropriation just as it is about conformism and exploitation.
In short: it is about reality.

Frozen mixed berries | CLICKMANIS/Shutterstock From cooking fat to freezer cake, these are the items that make cooking easier for Eater editors For active home cooks or even those who generally dread the task, the freezer deserves credit for helping get dinner (or dessert) on the table. —Brenna Houck, Eater Detroit editor Ice cube tray and ice cubes: The most important items in my freezer are my two ice cube trays and the ice they hold. —Hillary Dixler Canavan, restaurant editor Frozen fruit: My biggest freezer staple is frozen fruit, mostly because I love a good smoothie. —Erin Russell, Eater Austin associate editor Dino nuggets: Why eat boring chicken nuggets when you can eat chicken nuggets shaped like dinosaurs? It may be childish, but I will never stop getting a kick out of dino nuggets. It’s an easy lunch on a hectic day; just toss them in the toaster oven. Flip once. I guess you could make a side salad if you’re feeling fancy. But the only required side, as far as I’m concerned, is a dipping sauce — ideally barbecue sauce from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que because (a) it’s good and (b) obviously dino nuggets go best with Dino sauce. —Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Eater Boston editor Homemade gumbo: Gumbo is one of my favorite meals to make at home, but let’s be real; it’s a project, a cooking task that’s going to clock in at a couple hours before it’s done. —Missy Frederick, cities director Frozen dinners from mom: Being far away from my family is hard, especially now that I don’t really know when I can safely go back home to New York. —Nadia Chaudhury, Eater Austin editor Banana ice cream: Forget cookies and cream or chocolate chip cookie dough. —Esra Erol, senior social media manager Freezer cake: I don’t remember what life was like before I discovered Freezer Cake. —Elazar Sontag, staff writer Stock: The one thing I always try to have in my freezer is stock. —Meghan McCarron, special correspondent Homemade pesto: My frozen secret weapon is an ice cube tray full of homemade pesto. —Terri Ciccone, audience development manager Salted caramel ice cream: If it’s freezer junk food you seek, I present Lotus Biscoff Salted Caramel Ice Cream, something I started hoarding during the pandemic. —Susan Stapleton, Eater Vegas editor Honorable mentions: Fresh herbs frozen in ice cube trays, bags of pre-peeled garlic, brownies, Eggo waffles, tortellini, peas, pierogis, homemade marinara sauce, cooked beans, rice cakes for stir fries, cookie dough. from Eater - All https://ift.tt/3dAswSL
