Reading the tags of your recent Kunoichi Turtles post that Female Casey has a bit of a flirtatious personality has led me to headcanon that when Lavinia starts crushing on David (I think that’s Mona’s genderbent name in your AU?) she goes to Casey for advice and tips on how to flirt with a boy but when actually trying to use the flirting tips on David she fails miserably (like that flirting lesson scene from the movie Jumanji), but unknowingly to Vinnie the bad flirting worked and David is smitten XD
AHAHAHA! XD I would literally cry from second hand embarrassment if an episode like that existed. Maybe, maybe, I can see that happening a few "episodes" after David's first introduced into the story, after Vin finally comes to terms with her emotions. Because in this version the relationship progresses slowly over the course of like a season and a half (a lot of that due to David only visiting when his job demands it), and Vin has cold feet like for most of that time lol
David is the one who gets smitten with Vin first in my story and starts making subtle advances while Vin is completely on edge and skeptical of them and needs a while to realize that he actually likes her in a romantic sense, for real, and doesn't have some ulterior motive. After that she's just very awkward and tongue-tied about it.
You know how Raph kept telling Donnie to give up on his crush because they're all giant mutants that won't ever get a chance at love? I wanted to put attention on that part from canon since the show didn't give me that with the canon Ramona. Raph being a teenage girl can only make that mind-set worse, giving him/her more insecurity and self-hatred. Especially since Vin is the biggest of her sisters and the least "cute" and feminine of them. So I don't see her making the first move in any situation, and I think she'd only flirt after it would be made clear the other person feels the same way.
Ahh, sorry, that got a bit serious maybe. The two actually have a really sweet and healthy relationship (y'know, in my head, where it's been living rent free for years now lol), Lavinia just has to work out some things first before she's angst free.
In this AU we first meet David in the episode Newtralized, where David and Sal are trying to arrest the Newtralizer. Slash is there (he's an all-time baddie in this version), Vin gets captured thanks to David getting in the way of the fight, David feels responsible and goes to save her -> bla bla bla -> Vin has a rescued princess moment that she doesn't know how to feel about...
I've been trying to make this episode into an actual fic for the longest time. On the topic of Casey, I'm showing you a short section from the wip. It takes place toward the end when they've all reunited. I think it's also a good example on why Vin would not go to Casey for romantic advice XD
.
.
.
Casey leans in close to her face, her hooded eyes joining her friend’s thoughtful gaze on the young Salamandrian on the other side of the rooftop who is currently listening to his veteran commander going over what had happened while they were split up.
“Look at him standing there,” she says to her smoothly, almost whispering into her ear, “dark skin over toned muscle. Those abs, man.”
“Casey!” Vin cries out in shock and horror and swings around to face her friend’s smug smile.
“Like a chiseled renaissance statue,” Sofie helps with uncharacteristic coyness to her smile.
“Sofie, no!”
All four of the girls are grinning like Cheshire Cats at Lavinia’s discomfort, enjoying themselves way too much. Vin’s cheeks and nose are thoroughly covered in a deep blush and she hates that it’s there in the first place. She doesn’t even like the guy.
“David the Statuesque! That’s what I’m naming him.” Marie exclaims, sounding proud of herself for that one. “I was going to go with something more fun but since he’s your knight in shining armor—Literally!—I gotta be respectful.”
Vin can’t even hide her tortured grimace. Her shoulders sag and she sighs miserably. “I hate you guys.”

The aforementioned more cohesive* thoughts, or, Harlan Guthrie is an incredible writer:
Okay. So. A few things happened in this episode. I'm going to start with Daniel.
Daniel. There's just a whole nother tragic death in Arthur's life that was arguably his own fault. I mean, it wasn't his fault, but if course he's going to blame himself for it. It seemed like. They were actually getting somewhere. They had a bit of reconciliation going there. And then. Boom. Dead. Why do things like this keep happening to Arthur? And, well, he's still not out in the clear of this one yet, either.
On a semi related note, can we talk about how good of an antagonist the butcher is? Like. He's really just a guy. They've faced things that are, on paper, infinitely more dangerous than him. And yet, he's so scary. The way he seems like some sort of unstoppable force, even though they've managed to stop him before, even though he's just a human. It's the fact, I think, that he doesn't show any sign of distress. His voice never gives any hint of frustration, or even anger. He's so jovial, even while he takes away what hints of a new life Arthur has tried to build. It almost reminds me of someone else, but the butcher's casual, carefree additude is, I think, even more threatening than Kayne's hysterical joy, because even though he's not actually that much more powerful than Arthur, he presents himself like he is. He's just going about his daily business, and there's no conceivable way anyone could hinder him from it. And that, I think, is why he has such an impact.
Might talk more about how good the writing is in a bit, but first I need to address the proverbial elephant. I'm worried about John. It's obvious that Arthur knows something's wrong, and it's obvious that Arthur is worried, too. Towards the beginning of the season, I was worried about the argument it would cause when Arthur found out, but now I'm more concerned that John's stubborn refusal to let Arthur in on it will be both of their downfall. All we know about this deal John made with Kayne was that John would get Arthur to New York in return for being reunited with him, but we can see that there's something else up with John. And the two of them still have no idea that Yellow still exists, let alone that he's now in Larson. And where does Kayne factor into all this? What are his motives? There's no way for us to know, and it's driving me insane, because I just know it's important. That guy is just absolutely shrouded in mystery, and I know he's manipulating something behind the scenes that we're distracted from because we're focusing on the current happenings in New York. Also, tangentially related, but the song that John recognizes? What's up with that? I'm so goddamn invested in this story.
Also I continue to be incredibly impressed with the writing of every episode. The progression of this one was masterfully done. It incites our concern about John early on, and then quickly overshadows that with more concerns. John and Arthur emerge fairly successful from the conversation with Oscar, and things, are, overall, going well. And there's just a hint of time for that worry about John to surface before we're thrown into the interaction with Daniel. This has been something that has been building up for a long time, a climax of sorts. And tensions are high at the beginning, but the listener grows gradually more relieved throughout the course of the conversation. And then, just as Arthur mentions the butcher, the action picks back up again. The phone rings, we start to worry about the name situation, and things just start piling up. Oscar's on the phone, he sounds concerned. Oh no, Daniel left his address at the hotel, anyone could have found it, the butcher could have found it. Now there's someone at the door, the butcher knows the address, this is Not Good, and like that, Daniel's dead, Arthur's efforts were for nothing and there's not time for him to grieve because there's never time for Arthur to grieve, he has to run again, he has to run and hide and try to survive, again. And then the episode ends, leaving us stranded in that moment to try to process everything that just happened.
Anyway, I just really liked this episode. I really liked all the episodes. I really like the podcast. That's all. I feel slightly more insane than usual today, perhaps I spent too long outside and the smog is getting to my head.
*More cohesive as compared to the things I posted during the period of time I was listening to the episode. Not, you know, cohesive by some objective measure of the quality. That would be far from what I could hope to achieve on a Tumblr post about malevolent.

Re: Underdog & pacing: I realized this when looking at One Piece recently, that one part I really like about that story, is how there is a break full of chill humor & slife of Life between arcs, AND when a new arc starts, it starts with one or several relatively low-level fights, so the entire crew can just flex a bit without any tension or drama. Things obviously escalate afterwards, but this "victory round" after the last arc helps the pacing soooo much. And Izu... he barely ever gets that...
I watched a video on pacing some years ago that compared the pacing of My Hero Academia to Hunter x Hunter and they made the case that MHA trimmed all of the fat. Every single scene progresses the main story. Hunter x Hunter meanwhile has a scene where Gon and Killua have a pie fight in the park because they've reunited with their friends after they previously scattered for various reasons and the kids are happy to be back together.
There's no filler at all in MHA, and that can be a good thing but it also leaves the story and characters with almost no room to breathe.
Hunter x Hunter dedicates two whole episodes in Season 2 to explaining the power system, and that season is a no-stakes tournament arc where they show off that power system with easy powers to understand. It's basically the author making sure you can follow along when characters start breaking out the crazy shit later on.
I am begging you to watch the Hisoka vs Kastro fight. It establishes what every fight afterwards will be like.
(HXH also has every arc work towards Gon's goal of finding his dad, but is willing to take it slower than MHA does.)

For casey!!!
1. a fun headcanon
2. a sad headcanon
15. a secret
TW for abusive relationships in the last one.
Ask me things
1. A fun headcanon for Casey Casey's favourite ice cream flavours are cookie dough, chocolate hazelnut (or one or the other if not available) and peanut butter!
2. A sad headcanon for Casey A thing I've been getting a little sad about regarding Casey recently is how she struggles so much with initiating physical contact because it just wasn't a thing in her family, no sort of open affection is, but particularly, she finds it pretty much impossible to remember being hugged or held by her parents.
Her sister, being a victim of the same, was kind of similar to her in this respect, besides, if anything, she was too busy trying to keep Casey alive (despite only being a kid herself) to focus on her emotional development. It's a really big thing that they hug when they reunite in 2016, because it shows some character development in them both but mostly the sheer amount of time they've been apart. In Casey that development is definitely down to her friendships and working through parts of her past but it doesn't progress a great deal.
Honestly I know I show her learning to move towards non-sexual intimacy (both friendly and romantic) with Matt, but I don't think it's something that'll ever come easy to her. She's kind of going to be a little like that forever, and while that's OK for some people... the reasoning is still kind of sad.
15. A secret for Casey This is also a sad headcanon but it's something that she's pretty secretive about, but that I've not really touched on much myself either. I've had this hc for a long time and while I'm fine with talking about serious topics through my work, I've always been worried about how talking about triggering topics that are part of a characters backstory is percieved, but I'm going to at least summarise.
Casey had several relationships in the 2012-2014 period where she was a victim of physical abuse. It was originally her therapist's idea for her to try dating more and while she always summarises her experiences during that time as "deliberately made bad choices" there's obviously more to it than that.
Despite her strength and abilities she's not one who's willing to retaliate when it involves a partner. She was too worried about the slippery slope that would lead to. She was able to get away from these situations and obviously her position did help that a lot, however, like everything else it did cement her anti-relationship views.
