i’m rereading ootp (to my own horror) and like. knowing what happens in that one and the next two books makes that intense, bubbling frustration of being a teenager whose worries are disregarded so much worse.
like, surprise?? the kid whose childhood you’re trying to preserve lost that innate innocence years ago. you want him to be a normal 15 yr old boy but if you keep quiet about the dangers he might not live to see his 16th birthday. and congrats on keeping him safe, i guess—you’ve accidentally ruined the last piece able to tether him to his childhood, but i’m sure those months of torture were worth the farce of normality you craved for him. i don’t think you know that your apologies are like sticking band aids on a fracture. i don’t think you’re aware of how you’re ignoring the breaks, but i’m certain you’re expecting them to heal on their own.
oh, they didn’t? and now you’re treating him like he’s a bubble made of glass, waiting to shatter? but you’re the one to have turned him into that bubble, aren’t you? you’re the one who’s holding him, and it’s not his time yet. not for another two years. and shards of glass dulled with time cannot fell a monster, can they? so please be careful. you still need him. he never asked to be a martyr but he’ll do it because you expect him to; you just need to watch your step because your hands are slicked with guilt, and he’s heavy. he’s struggling. he’ll fall as well, if you let him go now.

i don't think ANY franchise should be considered good or revolutionary enough to be able to put aside blatant antisemitism/racism/queerphobia/etc etc ETC but harry potter is absolutely NOT it

Backing the Wrong Horse
Harry came home with a split lip, bloody nose, cut on his brow, blood on his knuckles, and what were probably the tell-tale of signs of oncoming bruises. He tried to duck into the bathroom to clean himself up without being noticed, but failed.
He knew exactly what Draco would say before he even said it. "Harry! What were you thinking?" He caught his boyfriend in the hallway, exiting the bathroom just as Harry was about to enter.
"You don't even know what happened," Harry protested.
Draco held Harry's chin carefully to turn his head so he could get a better look at the damage done. "Clearly you got into a fight of some sort. I'm not an idiot."
Harry let Draco examine him. "Yeah, but you don't know that I started it." He stepped past Draco into the bathroom.
"So you didn't start it?" Draco asked, grabbing a wash cloth from the linen closet before following Harry into the bathroom.
Harry turned on the tap and scrubbed at his knuckles instead of answering.
That was answer enough for his boyfriend. "Harry!" Draco scolded. He wet the rag with warm water from the bathtub faucet, not making Harry share the small sink. "Sit down," he said with a sigh when Harry finished washing his hands.
Harry sat on the edge of the bathtub with his knees spread open. Draco stood between his boyfriend's legs and dabbed at the blood on his face. "He had it coming," Harry mumbled.
Draco sighed again. "Harry, you can't keep fighting everyone who speaks poorly of the Malfoys. We were Death Eaters who housed the Dark Lord. We were on the wrong side of a war that hurt thousands of people." Draco referenced the great evilness of his family's past as he used a featherlight gentleness to doctor his partner's injuries; the irony was not lost on Harry.
"You had no choice. Lucius made those decisions for your family, and he's still paying for those sins. Besides, the person they should be blaming is Voldemort, not you."
Draco tossed the bloodied cloth into a hamper, seemingly satisfied with his work. Then he pulled out his wand to heal Harry's cuts. "It doesn't matter. You're defending the wrong people, Harry—hold still." Once the skin had healed on his eyebrow and lip, Draco reset Harry's nose.
Harry's eyes watered. He moved his jaw and scrunched his nose a couple times. "Thank you." He took Draco's hands and pulled him in close. "You were a child. It's been more than a decade. You're a good person. You've done more than enough to make up for any mistakes you made back then. Between your charity work and job as a Healer, you're practically a saint. I'll always defend you."
Draco rested his hands on Harry's shoulders, looking down at him fondly. "I am far from a saint. You need to stop getting in fights over me. You're going to get in trouble or get seriously hurt."
"I'll stop getting in fights when people stop being assholes."
Draco snorted and rolled his eyes affectionately. It brought Harry relief to know that he wasn't angry with him. "That's never going to happen."
"Once people realize that I'd do anything for you, they'll stop. I've just got to punch enough people to get my point across." Harry stood up and wrapped his arms around Draco's waist, kissing him once on the mouth.
Draco let out a small chuckle. "You're a brute and an idiot."
"But I'm your brute," Harry said with a cheeky grin.
"And my idiot." Draco ruffled a hand through Harry's messy curls before pulling him in for another kiss.

requited unrequited
so there was something going around a while ago when people where discussing 'requited unrequited' and how it's hilarious,
i didn't think too hard about it but like yes ITS SO FUNNY
the idea that both parties think the other has a crush on them and is too polite/embarrassed to shoot them down
and then their actual respective love interests are losing their mind
ITS GOLD ITS FUNNY WHAT DO YOU MEAN
and i deadass haven't seen a single fic like this, can someone drop a fic rec if they know anything and they belong to the following fandoms????

Hey guys when you’re ranting about a ship, which is well in your right! I do it too! Don’t tag THAT ship, that’s annoying, sure you might hate that ship but tagging it without “slander”/ “bashing”/ “anti” you’re just being a bit of a dick, you’re pushing your slander of said ship onto the shippers who just want to enjoy it; so cut that out.
On that note, STOP shaming ao3 authors and their works, they are NOT the same as published authors. On that note, slandering ATYD or Manacled is ten times more different than slandering something with 100-10,000 hits, hell it’s different when that other fic has 100,000! And that difference is that the former fics mentioned, have millions, MILLIONS of reads, ATYD has TWLEVE MILLION reads, Manacled has half of that, and even then, TAG THE SLANDER, if you’re talking about these either INSANELY POPULAR, OR INCREDIBLY HARMFUL fics, tag it, don’t just put it under the FIC’S NAME TAG.
Fandom etiquette and general fanfiction etiquette are important.
Unless it’s harming someone or endorsing something harmful, it’s not that big of a deal.
ALSO ALSO STOP TRYING TO CENSOR AO3 THAT’S DEFEATING THE POINT OF THE WHOLE SITE YOU DIPSHITS, AO3 IS NOT LIKE WATTPAD OR TUMBLR. IT IS AN ARCHIVE.
IN THE LITERAL MEANING IT IS AN INTERNET LIBRARY!
STOP IT
(Edit: Said something contradictory last time so I changed the tags a little bit, I’m very anti censorship there are no exceptions like I made it seem like I was saying, lmao sorry for the confusion)

Two days ago I remembered Krabat existed and now I remember how this book had me hooked as a teen in school. The story just sucks you in and I remember being amazed, enchanted and horrified at the same time. I'm amazed that a book like this exists. The analysis options are seemingly endless. There's so much symbolism to umpack. And Wikipedia said Otfried Preußler was processing his time in the Hitler Youth in Krabat and every word I'm thinking how and where? Like what does the magic stand for? What is Lyschko's role and meaning as a snitch ? What's with the war against sweden? Also it's only men in this story and I'm thinking about how that is also important somehow? It's almost like a fraternity kind of situation, with all the rituals involved and I never thought about this but working in manual labor kinda does this to you? Also the dualism between women only communities and men only communities and the dualism between christianity and black magic? Also thinking about work and work communities, the themes of fair work conditions, but also how working closely together can give you a sense of belonging...also the benefits and detriments of strict hierarchy in work communities/organizations. As a person who worked in a kitchen as an apprentice in the hundreds year old german apprenticeship system I appreciate the vague villinification of the boss and the weird emotional dynamics at play. Also how his trauma with the death of his friend resulted in pain and suffering for his apprentices? This book can be interpreted in a socialist way and in a non socialist way, it has so much to say about morals, culture, colonialism, society etc. It has so much to say about emotions, relationship and life, how to handle emotions as a man in a men only setting and how NOT to. It's just not brainy at all you just kinda get it? And it's literally just the german Harry Potter??? And I don't understand why just because of it's simple writing we only read it once in seventh grade and not later because the analysis options are fruitful and endless. I'm literally so impressed by the depth and sheer viceral quality of this book.

I don't think some wot book fans understand that I just wouldn't be interested in the show if it did a lot of the things they want. No value judgement (everyone likes different things), but some book fans want to change how show fans perceive the show. They want us to perceive it exactly as they do, and that's just not how it would work for me. I either just wouldn't be watching the show or I'd be wishing it explored the aes sedai and their warders more because that's the kind of thing I'm interested in. You can't make everyone think the same way you do.
