Ok but like substance use when you have DID just hits different.
Like alcohol? Does not. Just does not.
But weed? (Used legally👀) it makes us dissociate for hours and actually able to enter the inner world and engage with each other a lot closer than we can normally. A lot of the amnesiac barriers get loosened for us, at least when the alters are consistently in front for the time.
I just had a system relationship form bc the two fronting alters were actually able to talk to and interact with each other. It was nauseatingly cute.
But also maybe don't bc after that it sent us into a dissociative seizure so uh. Pick your battles.

Nugget, the Shifting Cast of Extras, and the Unreliable Narrator
One of the biggest twists of season 2 that I completely did not see coming, is that Nugget was dead all along (a rare miss for me, as I'm usually a great plot guesser). All of the scenes with Nugget were seen through Akliah's eyes; we saw only what she saw/believed, and that was a whole, living mousey friend. The minute Taissa, an outside perspective, came to notice Nugget, we all saw the truth: that he was dead, and had always been dead, and his life with Akliah was nothing but a coping mechanism, a dream that allowed her to keep sane as death slowly closed its claws around all of them.
Akilah was not a reliable narrator of her own story. None of them are.
In this context, the constantly rotating, growing, and shrinking cast of extra JV Jackets makes much more sense. Much of the teen storyline is told through the perspectives and memories of the adult survivors, and through the journals that Shauna kept in the wilderness (more reliable having been written in the moment, but still shaped by her limited perspective as well as trauma and hunger).
It makes sense that their memories focus only on those who are important to what is happening at the time, and the others fade into the background or disappear entirely as their relevance diminishes.
They remember what one background extra wore to the Doomcoming, but forget where she was during the Jackie Snackie. They remember who stood at the gravesite by the plane, but not who drew cards during the first hunt.
Gen and Melissa only got screen time this season because one of the survivors remembers their conversations and interactions. Crystal shows up because of her friendship with Misty. Akilah has a bigger part in s2 due to the Nugget plot and her role in Shauna's labor. Mari has a bigger presence in s2 because she's increasingly annoying and antagonistic to the other survivors, as well as chief acolyte of the Cult of Lottie.
Memory is a tricky thing, and memories made during trauma and starvation are trickier still. They simply don't have the brain power right now to accurately encode memories (adult Lottie mentions this, though she neglects to say that a brain that normally consumes A THIRD of the calories you take in understandably doesn't work very well under starvation conditions).
My prediction is that background YJs will come and go based on their relevance to the events happening on screen. It's not a mistake by the show runners or poor planning or an accident; it's all by design.
Not only does this work in-universe as an explanation for backgrounders coming and going, it gives the writers flexibility to bring in edible characters without having to explain why we haven't seen them before; they've always been there, they just didn't matter until now.
(It also serves to explain why, despite being on the brink of death from starvation, the girls still look pretty normal weight. The out-of-universe explanation is that it's morally reprehensible to ask the young cast to drop to a starvation weight and maintain it for the entire run of the show [or yoyo between seasons, which is even more dangerous]. The in-universe explanation is they remember themselves looking normal, so that's what we see. Just like we saw a healthy, living Nugget. Until we didn't. I wonder if we're going to see a "true" view of them through the eyes of the rescue crew that eventually saves them. Much easier to present one good vfx shot of them looking as haggard as they would actually be rather than multiple seasons.)

I feel like when it comes to Sora and Kairi in particular, people will shut down any interpretation that attempts to add nuance to their characters. Even their biggest fans.
I remember talking about how I think CoM made Sora's precious person ambiguous and how that represents the parts of Sora's heart that's pulling him in different directions. The part of him who wants to give up, go home, and live the rest of his life in peace, and the part of him who wants to keep adventuring, helping others, and find Riku (and I guess Mickey).
And then someone responded to that and said "Oh actually, Kairi's a false light, and that "ambiguity" is actually just the darkness." Hey, we're both interpreting the story. They could be right. It'd be really lame if they were, though. What's the point of Sora and Kairi's relationship if the entire time Kairi is just a vampire that constantly leads him down the wrong direction? To represent how friends can unintentionally lead you astray despite their best efforts?
Why take so long to reveal that if that is the case? What has ever implied that Kairi has led Sora down the wrong path? The fact that her light "allegedly" saved Sora in 3, but that he had to sacrifice himself anyway? What makes you think Sora wouldn't have done that for any of his friends? You'd have to go through mountains of theories to even get to the point where you could entertain this thought.
Would Kairi being a false light serve as a subversion to the idea that boys have to always get the girl? That she was actually turning Sora's head from his true destiny in Riku? Okay, let's roll with that. Sora and Riku are destined for each other and Kairi confused poor little Sora. Now what? Where does this leave the relationship between Sora and Kairi now that he realizes where his heart truly is? If their entire relationship was just a commentary on heteronormativity, why does she have formative moments with Sora as shown in CoM? Why does Sora choose to spend the last of his time showing her around different worlds, how his allies are doing, and gazing into her eyes? I feel like this person would say they aren't implying that Kairi means nothing to Sora, but they totally are!
If the ambiguity of CoM is just the darkness fucking with Sora, then that means that in the end, Sora has no genuine strong feelings for Kairi that are comparable to his feelings for Riku, when he clearly does!
Interpreting Kairi in a false light removes the nuance of said ambiguity in favor of telling a straightforward story about heteronormativity. Here's the thing, even under my interpretation, the idea that Sora is suffering from heteronormativity still works to some extent as it can be argued that Sora is incapable of seeing how valuable Riku is to him despite the fact that he's going so far out of his way for him. It's through that lack of introspection that Org 13 sends in Namine, a lonely, vulnerable, girl to distract Sora. It's almost like the literal interpretation of the game is not only leagues more charitable to the characters but works perfectly fine all on its own as a queer narrative depending on how you want to read it.
People have a similar problem with throwing away interpretations of Kairi's nuance in favor of reducing her to some sort of pseudo-antagonist or a prize to be won. The most glaring example I can think of is the scene in MoM where Sora shows up.
Many people have theorized that this is Kairi's head summoning its own Sora as a coping mechanism to show how reliant she feels on him, but the most common interpretation is that Sora just showed up through the connection of their hearts. TBF, Xehanort does literally say that that's what happens, but this is all taking place inside her head, and that's not always reliable. Also, how come Sora hasn't been able to reach anyone else through their connection, Riku or "Stella"?
Once again, it's an idea that removes the nuances of her character to tell a straightforward love story between Sora and Kairi while ignoring the obvious similarity they're sharing in that scene if the former interpretation is true. That the two of them feel as though they're worthless without their friends.
Then again, 85% of KH theories are just thinly veiled ship fodder. That's not a bad thing, but it can get really irritating when you can't look past a certain perspective

like. i know the views on abortion/sex work are different in japan than where i live. but its still very funny to see her get forgiven every time. like. what does. milgram want from us??? nothing yuno does needs to be "rejected" or "affirmed", her coping mechanism sucks yeah but its not something that warrants. it just kinda sucks to me tht yuno is very obviously suffering through depression or some other sinister thing. and shes still only like. 18 years old and in high school yet feels she has to act older than she is. yunos right! shes not a "poor naive little girl"! she chose sex work of her own volition but it still sucks! she had "chilling (haha) experiences" yet continued because she just wanted "warmth"! she is still 18 years old and in high school! and even if she was older id still feel the same but her being 18 exactly just makes it worse! and then milgram has to find a way to somehow portray her as "guilty" or "monstrous" for all these things in her mvs. which just feels terrible. she should not! be in there in the first place! yuno is very much one of the characters that makes me squint at yamanaka.
i understand shes supposed to be a critique of people who sexualise younger characters in media as well but. man. yuno we're gonna get you out of milgram girl i swear.

Don’t worry, you have multiple Worm anons. What Vision would you give Taylor? Cryo would make sense, for similar reasons you gave for Rachel (troubled teen ostracized from society), but I could also see Anemo—tends to avoid her interpersonal problems, the claustrophobia/desperate need to escape of the locker incident, loss of close relationships (her mom through death, and her friend through betrayal), etc. Also, I feel like Anemo just works better with her powers than Cryo; plenty of bugs can fly, but just about every bug hates the cold.
And if you’re willing, maybe elaborate on Electro!Lisa (which you mentioned in the Cryo!Rachel post)?

anyway. taylor is not anemo. shes like. the opposite of anemo. anemo is about reeavaluating your prev understanding of the world that was taken from u and accepting the loss, its about learning to let go and begin again, learning to go with the flow in new circumstances. taylor never let go of anything ever lol, she never met a situation she could not escalate by trying to solve it even if its not her fucking business. she's a definition of hyper-controlling freak lol. she's a queen administrator for fucks sake. like the only time you could say anemo even near her is at the end of the book where contessa asks her if it was worth it and she says no.
also, you should not get caught in subjects of powers. bugs is just aethetics, and both powers and vision bank much more on person's perceptions than on actual physicality. no one cares what bugs like. like, hu tao's symbol is plum's bloom, you could be like oh flowers hate fire! she can't be pyro! but its just aethetics, its about meaning to hu tao, not what actual plum flowers are like. with taylor, bugs are just infused witrh element and no one gives a fuck what they like. did bugs like biting lung's dick? natural properties don't matter
now about taylor's actual element... like i hope we're operating on the same understanding that powers manifest due to trauma and are ironic-tilted coping mechanisms? like im not actually in worm fandom on tumblr so idk if its a common understanding or not, but imma proceed like it is. visions are v similar to this, but not limited to trauma, they are about more general perception of the world, but obv if trauma is present, it will affect perception, and so, a vision, a lot.
so, what was taylor's trauma that manifested her specific powers? its not just bullying. its being watched, feeling like she's being watched at all times, like she can't have a safe space, they find her in the toilets, anywhere, etc, can't trust or count on other people. and so she gets power that lets HER watch everyone, lets HER be omnipresent, bc she thinks thats the only way to counter-act, and ultimately, lets her take direct control of other ppl bc she thinks she can't trust them to cooperate.
so like yeah. cryo kinda fits. but like. cryo manipulators are not blunt, you know what i mean? cryo like kaeya, rizzley, charlotte to the extent use social games and understanding of others to control them. taylor just brute forces it bc everyone's afraid of her.
so like. hear me out. raiden shogun. the theme of omnipresent watch over ppl. very strong warrior, but poor social skills\understanding of ppl. stubborn. thinks she knows best than everyone else despite not even knowing them. control of ppl for their own good. loss of close relationships, very solipsist. beating her head against the wall until the wall cracks (raiden fought her puppet for 500 years, taylor's... everything). raiden takes direct control of her puppet like taylor takes control of ppl. there's another toxic electro girlboss whose trying to manipulate her bc she thinks she's saving her (lisa\yae)

beat fully fell for neku week 3 but didn't say anything/realized the second coco shot neku and has regretted it for three years
neku meanwhile has basically took the time to really think about himself and his feelings (with the entire population of Shinjuku, coco, and occasionally that bitch josh but y'know)
that's why he's so chill in neo he sorted out his coping mechanisms and figured out who he was (also pure calm brought on by trauma, he absolutely needed a few days to Readjust and Breathe)
neku has two hands and hes determined to, after a good couple of punches to god, hold both joshua and beats
beat is easy, .5 seconds after shiki is done with her hug it's beat's turn and the man is so full of love and relief he kisses neku right there in front of hachiko and everyone (including eri who takes one look at neku mixing their brand with another and is Not Impressed)
shiki, eri, and rhyme think its hilarious that beat went from supportive friend to scaring off someone trying and failing to flirt with rhyme to kissing someone he's been emo about for three years. beat cant bring himself to care. he's got neku back. neku kissed him back.
neku is half embarrassed, half overjoyed bc everyones okay and hes home. (the embarrassment is from eri's judgement. a powerful force.)
neku is taken in by beat, who moved out when he turned 18, and gets a job at gatto, eri quickly deciding even though he's useless with fashion, he's pretty good at getting customers to come into the store with that face plus neku's grafitti art goes awesome w some of their peices. the collab line is a hit and since neku hates the spotlight, all the attention is on gatto
(shiki: are you okay with the fact that we're using your bf for a thirst trap in our store? beat, staring at neku: huh shiki: great talk buddy)
neku still has...dreams though. nightmares? he can't tell. it's nothing concrete, only feelings. powerful ones. a melancholy song, a lone instrument. he keeps reaching out, only to find whatever it is just out of reach. he doesn't feel much like getting up those days, everything too overwhelming, emotions and memories paralyzing him
meanwhile after josh does nothing sees everyone again, he avoids everyone except uzuki and kariya bc the poor girl cant run this place alone, even with kariya actually helping, because most of the other reapers were murdered, josh, you dipshit

he wants to go check on neku. he does. he really really wants to bc shinjuku was his fault. he sent him there and then couldnt get him back for a long time bc the higher beings were jackasses

then, on the eve of neku's first birthday alive, coco materializes in his office and threatens him to show himself to neku or her and tsugumi were going to kick his ass.
joshua isnt scared of two teenage reapers but he says he will to get her out of his hair (hes absolutely scared, both of them teamed up might actually kill him and he could not let them be in charge of shibuya. coco esp.)

bnha ch 290: yup i remember all the way back when the mountain training camp arc released and people called it then. i was just about to say something about reaping and sowing ha.
297: surprised this max security prison for super dangerous quirk users doesn't have quirk suppressants and body armor for everyone.
298: now that i think about it. eraser head knew about eri's progress. he choose to amputate himself because at that moment they couldn't afford a second, though shigaraki managed to break contact anyways and im not sure his leg could have been salvaged. also surprised the hospital isn't overloading rooms given the major disaster that happened. bakugou's room has a lot of empty space.
303: i dislike the framing here that toya a child of 13 and younger was the one in the wrong here. horikoshi is framing toya's actions as out of line and sure burning himself wasn't the healthiest coping mechanism but he was not the main problem. also i've love to say 12 year old fuyumi blaming herself for her family's problems was insightful commentary on how eldest daughters get treated as 3rd parents instead of the children they are but thats giving horikoshi-sensei a little too much credit.
314: im sensing a double standard here for who gets assassinated and who gets imprisoned. like they imprisoned all for one and gigantomachia but these smups are the ones the public safety commission is killing? see my lack of knowledge on how the japanese government works means im only vaguely guessing what all these organizations do.

historically speaking, american foreign involvement is.. iffy. if the cia are involved things are probably going to get worse im looking at like a good chunk of latin america and the banana wars. arguably some of the more publicized stuff helped like taiwan, south korea, germany, and japan are doing pretty well for themselves, and the financial/logistics backing for europe and now ukraine (well the ww2 stuff was pure war profiteering). and then there's inherent abuses of the us industrial military complex, tax payer money to line the pockets of weapons manufacturers and defense contractors, preying on the poor with funding from tax dollars, the rampant abuse and all the crimes that get covered, the lack of regulation in general so you have human rights abuses environmental damage military bases usually poison the surrounding areas.

335: holy shit if those hagakure is the spy than the conspiracy theorists got it right. i remember there was this old fan theory circa 2017? 2018? which posited hagakure was the spy because how else did someone so weak get into ua like she can turn invisible and that's it. and how narratively she hadn't done anything while everyone else how a few pages at least. at the time i thought it was a cool idea for an otherwise boring character but the lack of evidence stopped me from going all in on it. in the early arc its said? implied? that there's a spy in UA and people were able to logic and reason it down to probably being a student (i dont remember how they ruled teachers out). hagakure was suspect number 1 but there were a couple other 1 A put up.
336: oh yeah the secret forest training camp. and yeah aoyama was the other one speculated to be a spy. the other conspiracy theoriests got it right!

Good day to you. Why, do you think, was Tommy using opium in S1? Especially since we never saw it give him any relief--only bring on (I assume more strongly?) the memories of the terror in the tunnels? Do you think this is a writing/script glitch and we're supposed to believe it did bring him oblivion that just wasn't shown? Or do you think there was some reason he wanted to go back there in his mind? *I am only to S2 Ep 3 (and not done w/ that one)
Good day! Thanks for your patience on this, @nettlestonenell. It’s honestly been so long since I watched season 1 that I had to go back and refresh myself a bit before I felt able to answer. (Not that having to rewatch Peaky Blinders – or indeed, Cillian Murphy in general – is ever a hardship.)
My impression was that Tommy absolutely was trying to find relief from those memories, not relive them, but was unsuccessful – and I think the fact that he was unsuccessful is not a writing misstep, but the entire point. The war is not something he can so easily escape. It’s something so many of the men around him – fellow veterans – cannot escape. We see that very quickly with poor Danny Whizz-Bang, who spells it out hauntingly:
“I died over there anyway, Tommy. I left my fuckin’ brains in the mud.”
[About how he wants his sons to grow up:] “Just ordinary – ordinary men. And they won’t get told to do this shit – this SHIT that we got told to do!”
“Those fuckin’ guns – they blew God right out of me head.”
I think it’s not coincidence that Peaky Blinders includes this subplot about Danny in its very first episode. Right off the bat, it establishes the tone of the series’s post-war setting and the theme of the war’s enduring effects – and though I don’t want to spoil anything, suffice to say that theme does not go away. Because in a time and place and social class that simply did not have adequate understanding of, terminology for, or treatment for PTSD, how does a population of working-class war veterans reckon with the terrible things they’ve experienced and done?
Maybe sometimes the opium works, and Tommy’s blessed with a few precious hours of true oblivion. But it’s a coping mechanism, not a cure – and an unhealthy coping mechanism, at that. So even if it does sometimes bring Tommy relief, I think it’s important that Peaky Blinders chooses to show us not the instances where it’s successful but the ones in which it fails. Partly because Tommy’s PTSD is important in itself, yes, and deserves to be represented with due gravity; and partly as part of a broader point: that his time as a soldier was a profoundly formative experience for Tommy and continues to shape his relationships, personality, opinions, and approach to life in general.
As I said, I haven’t rewatched in a while, so anyone reading this who has a fresher memory – I’d love to hear your thoughts! But that’s my take on the matter, at least.
