One Piece warm up 1 (IzouSabo)

“Why do you never sing around me? You have a beautiful voice.” There wasn't a soul awake, and the night’s darkness had consumed the world as its occupants slept happily on. Though not everyone was sleeping; as the crickets were singing in joy, and the fireflies were dancing to its cheerful song. It was a sight to behold, but it was one that had gone completely unnoticed by one of the few people who was awake during such a time. 

Sabo never slept well, finding it difficult when anytime he closed his eyes he was plagued with nightmares. So, he was working, and blasting away all the terrible thoughts that gobbled up his brain with his favorite playlist. Some would see it as childish, erasing the world around him with heavy metal and rock music, but to Sabo it was just a moment of peace.

At that moment a new song popped up on his shuffle, playing its sweet melody through his earbuds, and gracing his ears. He forgot he had this song on his phone, and he was just a few seconds away from skipping it before he stopped; finding himself lost in the slow song that began to fill the room. He just sighed, and decided to let it play out as he continued to fill out reports. 

It was a nice song, and soon he had completely forgotten about his reports in favor of listening. He swayed back and forth in place as he danced to the music, and then, without warning, he began to sing softly to himself. At first it was unintelligible, but soon he had become consumed by the music as his singing became louder by the second. He wasn't sure why, but it was almost cathartic for him to just not worry about work for once. It almost felt as though he was trapped in a beautiful waltz, but of course the image of a romantic ballroom dance wouldn't be complete without-

“Why do you never sing around me? You have a beautiful voice.” Sabo literally jumped out of his seat, earbuds getting ripped out of his ears as he turned to stare at the intruder standing at the office doorway. He only relaxed when he saw who it was, and he couldn't help the audible sigh he let out in response.

 “Izou, you scared me.” Said man was still dressed in his sleep wear; boxers, T-shirt, and hair still flowing down his back as though it was made of water. Sabo never knew how Izou’s hair always looked so perfect, and a part of him couldn't help but be jealous at times. The man just shrugged, and then carefully stepped into the room; his footsteps being the only source of noise within their little home. 

“Sorry, the bed is just cold without you.” Sabo didn't know how to respond, and instead just allowed himself to enjoy the other man’s hand as it rested on his cheek. He leaned into the touch, allowing himself to melt into it, and sighing in relief when he felt Izou’s thumb rubbing soothing circles on his skin. 

“You should join me then. Would be a lot warmer.” He allowed his hands to take Izou’s, holding them close, and rubbing his nose into his wrist so he could take in his scent. It seemed he still smelled of that cologne he wore every single day, and Sabo loved it. 

“I guess it doesn't hurt, but I will be dragging you back to bed whether you like it or not.” They were both practically purring as Izou wrapped his arms around the blonde, holding him into his embrace as they gently swayed back and forth. Just as though they were dancing to the soft song of chirping crickets.

As angry as this situation has made me, it also reminds me how much I love writers in general, and especially in fandom. Like these are a group of people who loved their freaky little guys so much they used 24 letters to compile works with so many words it could rival the Library of Alexandria.

@beyondkailani is LITERALLY the reason I started writing One Piece fanfic. The title of my first official fic was INSPIRED by her because I loved her writing so much. Clipped Wings is my favorite ASL fanfic EVER.

@arielxlazarus helped me write so many of my fics, especially the ship fics, because I would constantly go to her feeling uncomfortable and "idk I don't think it's very good" and she'd help me beta and motivate me enough to the point where I was confident enough to actually post them. So all those IzouSabo fics I have? Those are thanks to her.

"Worn Away With Time" by @leohanan is my favorite Dad Dragon with Sabo fic, yes you heard me so you getter go read it cuz I'm going to start crying.

Those fics have carved themselves into my brain and altered the chemistry. Being a writer among writers is such an outrageous experience, because who better to understand you?

I used to be, and still am, obsessed with the Hemingway quote "there's nothing to writing; all you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed", and I never realized how true that was until I became a writer.

The fics you read at 2 in the morning when the voices are too loud? Those words are scars put out for the world to see, because there is nothing more vulnerable or more feeling than a writer who spends hours upon hours of their life writing fic for free, simply because they are compelled to by the urge to create.

How is that not one of the most amazing things you've ever heard? How can you not immediately respect those people? Whether they're writing smut or gen or anything else, a writer is something so needed in thus exhausting world.

And I really hope one day everyone can agree on that.

Sort of a Royalty AU of sorts, I just really wanted to write izousabo and was inspired to write this during a conversation with @arielxlazarus. The building was so old; it had been through so much. Most of it Sabo had no grasp of because it had happened so long ago. The ceiling of his room had always been decorated by those webs of cracks and deep dents. Scarred by its history and barely holding itself together. If it wasn’t for the Revolutionary Army occupying the compound and taking on the upkeep of the ruins, it would’ve likely collapsed long ago.
