on the night of their encounter, their first day, first sight, first death, in the foundations of a house with no roof and laying on the floor that would serve as a bed, jimmy talks about bad luck.

it sounds senseless to tango, so he stays quiet and frowns at the sky with a new found resentment to something beyond them as well.

after jimmy falls asleep tango stays awake and thinks about luck and death and something about a coal mine?

the stars mock him above, half built house and hard cold floor. tango thinks of golden wings taking off into a better world.

that is not fair. a cold, dark coal mine suffocates the most beautiful feathers and tango can't free anyone if he's a prisoner himself.

but then again, what if he wants to try?

with a yellow thread around his finger, poor and against all odds, tango looks over to his side at jimmy and he wants to try.

replace the coal with flowers, sheep, cows, plant a bright green garden in the mine with a pretty house on a hill close to the sky.

build from scratch, make a home.

soothe the guilt, get a chuckle, have his back. tango wants to try.

it's their first night, first dream, first death and tango made a promise for what is left of his life. it's no big deal, but there's the tug of a thread tightening between their chests and as he sighs along to someone else's breathing he is aware that no matter how long they have, it is and will be worth it.

and every day from that night he is proven to be right.
