I see Cole as a pretty artsy guy himself, so he’d be thrilled to have an artsy s/o
You might not expect it, but he’s really in tune with his feelings, so to me it makes sense
He’s not quite as artsy as you, but he knows how to appreciate it
He’s more into the performing arts himself, but he has no less respect for other types of art
He’ll totally arrange work sessions for you both, which vary depending on the vibe you’re working with
Feeling like doing something a little dark or moody? Dramatic piano. Candles. Wine/grape juice in wine glasses.
Feeling colorful? Open windows. Flowers in vases. Candy and fruit. Maybe some cartoons playing in the background.
Point being: he knows how to get a vibe going
He really loves to work alongside you, even if you’re not doing the same thing
Sometimes he tries to sketch or paint, but more often he’s just watching you work or practicing moves
(You guys totally have a shared studio btw; wood floors and barre for him, easel/supply cabinet/whatever you need for you)

You have to reassure him that there’s no one way to “appreciate” art, and however he feels about it, that’s just how he feels
Your response only increases his interest

I’m gonna be honest, I don’t see Nya as the type to get all deep over the meaning of art
Like, if it’s pleasing to the eye she’ll appreciate it, but she doesn’t think about it too much
It’s just too abstract for her tastes; the pseudo-reasoning of art critics gets on her nerves
But for your work she makes an exception
Well, not really an exception—she doesn’t take to pseudo-reasoning
She knows you, she knows your feelings, so when she sees your work, she sees a piece of you in it
It’s something she doesn’t see in other art pieces; she doesn’t know the artist, so it’s nothing more than a visual piece for her
But with your pieces, she can dig deeper because she knows deeper information
That’s why she loves your work, and why she loves watching you work
You’re the only artist that makes her feel like she really understands art, and for that she appreciates you
(She still thinks that most critics talk out of their asses though)
On that note, she will fight your critics. She will hunt them down and make them regret ever trying to “understand” your work

Honestly you think it’s a little funny how she’s unintentionally become one of those critics who argue about a piece’s meaning

She has a vast trove of knowledge, but feeling is something she often struggles with
There are few things that actually give her profound emotions
Your art is one of those things
The fact that it came from you, that your hands crafted it…
It stirs something in her, and suddenly the shapes and colors come to life
She asks you about it often, trying to understand
“Why is it… calming?”
“Well, I suppose I used some pretty muted colors, and the imagery is kinda peaceful… I dunno, does it calm you?”
“Yes. It makes me feel calm.”
Obviously you’re proud of her for better recognizing her emotions
And she’s proud of herself!!
Your art helps her understand a part of her that she’s only beginning to explore
And, since it comes directly from you, she credits you with the help :)
She loves to see your finished work, but she also finds herself mesmerized by your creative process
Watching the piece come together, each motion bringing it closer to completion, helps her understand the art itself
She tells herself that it helps her understand her feelings, too
Even though she knows that not every piece is dedicated to her, she always thanks you for showing her your work <3

well, this isn't something we have great insight on because he prefers not to talk about it, especially in later years. here's a brief history of his struggles with addiction in the 70's and 80's:
- he started with the harder drugs around 1973 to "boost his creative juices" and they quickly took over his life. people and the media were noticing a change in behaviour around this time.
- he gradually got smaller and his addiction more severe. pamela des barres has a story on this in one of her books which i will not talk about since it's very sad and understandably he didn't want that side of him portrayed in a book.
- by 1977 he was even skinnier, paler, and extremely paranoid. his diet consisted of drugs, powdered vitamins and banana daiquiris. he ate no solids, and even tried the photosynthesis diet a few times.
- he seemed to have gotten slightly better by '79-'80, he was eating food again (even though he wasn't eating enough for the entirety of the 70's), but then bonzo's death occured and his addiction got so bad that he got told he had just a few months to live if he didn't immediately stop.
- during the 1983 ARMS tour, he told his friends he had quit heroin. some say he got into a rehab in switzerland suggested by eric clapton and got blood transfusions, but i'm not sure of the reliability of this claim.
- his first wife patricia helped him to completely quit the drug from mid to late 80s. unfortunately, to cope with his addictive instincts he got hooked on coke and alcohol for a while instead.
- he's said in an interview that around his mid 50s he got completely sober with “i might actually get to my seventies” as his prime ambition. he said this about quitting alcohol in a 2013 interview:
“As time passed, a hangover wasn't just a fuzzy morning anymore; it was a day, then a second day. So I decided to leave it behind. And I don't miss any of it. Once the compulsion is gone then it’s pretty good times.”
and now... he's nearing his eighties 🥹🥹 i've seen him occasionally smoke or drink the occasional beer when hanging with friends. that's it.

In the summer of 1989, I received a copy of an article entitled “Of Metaphysics and Polynesian Navigation.” It had appeared in Avaloka, a journal of religious and cultural studies. The author, James Barr, described himself as “a Seaman and a navigator.” He stated:
On several occasions in the early 1980’s, I chose to study with four men who held the craft of open sea navigation. These venerable gentlemen were Tranhei Théki, (Maori), J. W. Kei (Tahiti), Jacques Koah (Bora Bora), and Matthew Burke Moi (Rorotonga and Western Samoa). My studies, excepting those with Théki, all took the form of discourse while at sea, for I served as a deck-hand and cook aboard their vessels. Before my service, I had no idea that the art of navigation (in the traditional sense) was still alive in Oceania. Still less did I know the nature of the traditional Polynesian world, and its similarity to other systems with which I was familiar.
Mr. Barr was fascinated by the fact that, although “Oceania is comprised of small islands and coral outcroppings, isolated by thousands of sea-miles,” cultural similarities among the different peoples are strong.
In fact, the cultural differences between the various islands are slight enough that the Polynesians can be said to hold a more or less unified world-view, with only minor variations. In order to explain such a unity, one must needs look to the method of transportation used to cross the watery abyss. One must seek out the navigators and their craft.
The navigational system described in his article is similar to that employed by the Bugis. He presents a three-step approach: the “literal” involving the everyday physical world; the “moral” or “subtle realm” above the literal that “draws one higher”; and the “anagogical” indicating an “absolute level,” a transcendence like the higher soul in the Bugi’s two-souls approach.
The first level—the literal—entailed watching the clouds, the sea birds, the waves, and the colour of the sea. To accomplish this one must clear the mind of all excess thought and focus one’s full attention upon phenomena as they arise. I was made to understand that years of practise were involved in this process. One must be taught to “look,” to “see” the subtle aspects of change, and to apply these to the task of direction finding.
In order to proceed to the second and third steps, the practitioner must become relaxed, entering a state of meditation.
In essence, one must fill one’s lungs to capacity and concentrate all one’s attention upon the act of breathing. This must be done while in a vessel far enough from land that one can feel the rising and falling of the swells. One attunes one’s breath to the swells, so that as the vessel is lifted, one inhales deeply, “all the way to the feet,” and as the vessel descends, one must exhale slowly with the swell. By this practise one’s mind “becomes the sea,” and one is able to commune directly with the element, so that any change is noticed at once. One must “commune with the body of the Lord of Waves,” so as to know His mind as one’s own.
The second step involves communication with a guide or an Inner Pilot, in this case a culturally shared entity.
Tuaraati, the Ocean Lord, is addressed in a series of recited prayers, and a coconut is broken open, the juice of which is allowed to fall into the sea as a libation, while Tuaraati is asked to guide the mind of the navigator over his realm.
At this point, the practitioner enters the third stage: he realizes the route that he and his boat should follow.
One must call the Lord of the Sea (Tuaraati) and listen to His instruction via His body, and then “know His mind.” “Knowing” Tuaraati, one then is able to know the “Supreme One Tangaroa; He is the One who sails your canoe.” One “knows” the sea, one “moves with it,” and through Tangoroa via Tuaraati, one sails one’s canoe to the destination.
The practitioner, like Rasmon in Yosuf’s story, relies upon the stars to assist in this process. The stars act as guides to help what the Bugis refer to as the spirit self in its task of assisting the lower, physical soul.
Essentially, the stars are living entities which can be approached if one’s mind is “filled with the sea,” as discussed above. They must be approached via the Lord of Waves (Tuaraati) and “known” through Him. These beings are able to provide both direction (literal), and advice (moral), but they must be known or approached via the medium of the Lord of Waves, and hence Tangaroa (anagogical).
I was enthralled by this description of navigational techniques practiced by the Polynesians.

I mean, we all know about long covid now. When the covid virus does too much damage to organs, nerves, veins, arteries, and the immune system? Then it's 'hello, longterm disability.'
But think about before covid. People would say, "It's just a virus. It's not an infection. You don't need antibiotics or to go to the doctor. Just drink orange juice. Take some over the counter medicine. Sleep it off. It'll pass."
Which can be true! Yet, even in the before times, folks were catching and being disabled by 'just' viruses.
Long HIV = AIDS
Long polio = paralytic polio, post-polio syndrome
Long Chicken Pox = Shingles
Long HPV, hepatitis, & others = cancers
And 'Long' versions of lyme disease, mono, hepatitis, herpes, flu, epstein barr, and other viruses--they're all known to doctors.
They can lead to multiple sclerosis (MS), myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), fibromyalgia, dysautonomia, POTS, mast cell disorders, heightened allergies and food sensitivities, chronic migraine, organ damage...the list goes on.
It's not 'just a virus,' and it never has been. You must rest and recuperate and listen to your body.
No, longterm problems don't happen to everyone or every time. And no, nothing is helped by panicking.
But if you still have symptoms after you're 'cured,' you're not making things up. Your mind isn't tricking you. This isn't your fault. Post viral illnesses and syndromes are real. Go talk to your doctor.

Every single disabled person has strong feelings about their own situation and I would not presume to talk about anyone’s thoughts but my own. Wellp I missed my third class because my day was so unlucky yesterday, but I got to barre, and it kinda sucked, I’m just recognizing my body is very tired.
I won’t be able to go to any workout classes for the next 7 days, but I’m going to do my own thang. ;)
I’m going to do a 30 min walk (with the fun treadmill challenge playlists of course), a boxing/muay thai workout + bodyweight exercises, then a yoga sesh or pilates sesh, then some good stretching. I feel this is more low impact and will help with slimming, because I think my intensity is contributing to the bulking of my thighs. I also think this will satisfy my desire to feel that I did some work with the bag work, since it’s pretty intense 😜
I watched a pretty cool video of a girl who had a similar body type to me who lost the weight and leaned out and models, and her talking about her mindset is inspiring! She talked about wanting to be in shape in her later years and being healthy and active her entire life, and that’s something I can totally get behind! I personally want to be able to go for a run without cardio anxiety (a name I just came up with), improve my stamina, and to become flexible and open up my hips, which have always been tight, even when I did gymnastics. One day I will get that middle split!
But yeah, that kind of clicked something in my brain that made my happy chemicals spark a bit, so maybe I’ll have a happier workout tomorrow. I’m currently up late because I decided to write, and my creative juices are still goin a bit.

It’s been a little while since we’ve had a coffee or juice chat around here, so let’s grab a favorite beverage and catch up a bit today. I’d want to hear what’s going on with YOU. How are the human and/or fur children? How’s life? What do you have going on right now? We’d probably talk about spring fever and summer plans. I’m SO READY for school (and homework!) to be over for the kids. I’m ready for late-night swims, slow mornings, and enjoying more time together. As far as summer travel goes, we’re headed to Hawaii this summer (can’t wait!!!) and I have multiple price alerts set for Spain. If the airline prices drop a little, we’re IN. I’d want to know where you’ve been shopping lately. I feel like everything has been a little blah so far this season, but so far, I’m really loving Abercrombie (surprisingly!), Amazon finds (like this dress and this set), and Farm Rio. I’m still doing the RTR Unlimited subscription and it’s a nice way to keep things fresh without buying all the things lol. I’d tell you about my garden. When I had all of my eye issues last spring, I let everything die. I didn’t want to be outside in the soil and wind since my eyes were so irritated, so my garden became survival of the fittest. Somehow, zucchinis grew the size of my forearm, one gigantic beet survived, and our rose bushes made it! They’re all blooming now and smell amazing. The Pilot built a new garden bed, we planted some new things for spring, and I’m excited to have a garden again. I’d ask you what workouts you’ve been into lately. I’m still loving Sculpt Society, F45, barre, hiking, and hot yoga. I’d probably chat with you about military life. The Pilot will be retired this winter and I can’t even believe it. I shared more in this vulnerable Instagram post, but I’m not going to be sad when it’s over. So much of military life is based on anxiety and worry, and waiting. Waiting for the next assignment, waiting for deployment to be over, waiting until things calm down (
