Can we please stop pretending Klaus is some Machiavellian genius?
Tumblr media
I get the show is always trying to tell us he is a mastermind, but there are so many more clever characters who actually set up long term plans to achieve their goals (Lucien, Celeste, Katherine). What did Klaus ever do that was ever strategic or showed any superior intelligence? If anything his intelligence was severely stunted, he was a thousand years old and still acting like a teenager half the time. He made rash and impulsive decisions and they worked out sometimes. They had just as much of a chance of blowing up in his face. This doesn't make him smart. If he wasn't so indestructible, he wouldn't have been so lucky.
Throughout history, we constantly see Elijah having to remind Klaus not to draw attention to them. All he has to do is stop being a serial killer or risk bringing the one man he is terrified of to town. You would think it would be easy, yet he is unable to control himself. At no point do we see him ever preparing to confront Mikael. He only runs from him. He could have created an army to trap Mikael or befriended witches. But no, instead of coming up with a plan, they all just run. Not much of a master strategist. The fandom loves to say it was stupid that Rebekah called Mikael to New Orleans yet doesn't want to talk about how stupid it was for Kol and Klaus to go on a killing spree which they knew would attract Mikael. And he does this not once, not twice, but repeatedly in every flashback we see, all the way from the first flashback in 1001 to the last in the 1950s.
Speaking of the 1950s, what great strategic plan was it to tell Elijah he buried their siblings at sea? He isolated the one family member he had left while Mikael was hot on his trail. This turned Elijah against him and what did Klaus do? Did he come up with a masterplan? No. he ran and body jumped.
Klaus' strength isn't his intelligence but his durability and his psychical strength. Which is why he was so determined to break his curse. He needed to be stronger than everyone, including his siblings. But what did any of that get him? Tristan and Aya at least built a cult and created weapons that could even take down Originals. Yet Klaus wasn't able to come up with any plan to take down Mikael?
We see Elijah tell Klaus that Klaus 'built' New Orleans, yet we never see any indication that Klaus is politically minded. In fact, in season one, he is in charge and a war breaks out in large part due to his scheming. He is constantly killing political leaders (the mayor, the mayor's son, the witches' leaders, every faction head, etc.) and then is surprised when they can't find peace and everyone is against him.
The only time Klaus had a long term plan that actually seemed clever was the lie about the sun and the moon curse. Not only did it take them nearly a thousand years before it actually worked, but he wasn't even the reason it worked. He was tricked by Elijah and literal teenagers. Elijah tricked him to get him to MF, the MF gang tricked him into believing Bonnie was dead, and then he fell for that exact same trick and believed that Elena was dead.
Throughout the shows and even flashbacks, people act like Klaus is this great strategist. And maybe he is compared to the children he is targeting. But when you put him up against his equals (Lucien, Mikael, Dahlia, etc.), he doesn't compare.
Celeste and Genevie were manipulating Klaus left and right in season one. In the short '9' months he was in New Orleans, he destabilized it so much that Hope nearly died. She only survived because of Marcel. They only got her back because of Elijah and Hayley. In fact, Klaus' plan to bring Hope back before they were ready is what drew Dahlia back so quickly, leaving them unprepared to face her.
Klaus wasn't responsible for Mikael's first death. He got lucky that everyone else (the children he was targeting) came up with a plan to trick Mikael. Mikael's second death was simply overpowering him, no outsmarting there. In fact, Mikael would have killed Klaus if his family hadn't saved him earlier.
Yes, he 'tricked' Dahlia into believing he betrayed his family, but this wasn't a trick. He actually did betray them. He murdered Gia and turned Elijah against him once again. He is unable to scheme without actually hurting those close to him and alienating the people trying to help. He lies that he killed Aiden, again another time he just jumps on the first opportunity he sees, and by doing so, he alienates all of their allies and endangers his family. The only reason they end up beating Dahlia is because of Esther. They all would have died based on Klaus' plan. Sure his idea to curse Hayley did technically save her life but he didn't do it for that purpose, he admitted he did it to punish her. There was no long term scheme. He hadn't thought through how it would impact Hope or even what he would tell his daughter as she got older.
Then in Season 3, Lucien had Klaus on his knees before his big brother and big sister swept in to save the day. Even taking down Tristan was thanks to Cami and Freya's plan. He had to be saved from the Strix by Hayley, Marcel, and Stefan. They have their big Thanksgiving dinner where they confront the three, but all it does is show that Lucien, Tristan, and Aurora had out schemed the Mikaelsons. The only thing the Mikaelsons could do was overpower them and threaten them.
In Season 4, Klaus hardly does anything and Season 5 Klaus is an absolute mess. You're telling me this legendary strategist couldn't save his daughter and her mother from a hundred year old vampire? He couldn't figure out a way to find her? In the seven years they were forced apart, he wasn't even trying to find a way to reunite his family? He wasn't a strategist, rather he waited for events to happen and then reacted impulsively, hoping it would work out. His plans are all based on emotion and vendettas, not strategy or intelligence.
Yes, he is Machiavellian in a sense that he has nearly no empathy and will do whatever it takes to get what he wants, but he lacks the cunningness to be truly Machiavellian. Instead he is just a narcissistic psychopath.

2 - We're More Than A School
Tumblr media
Part 3
Family is More than Blood
@secretdreamlandmentality
Shutting the car door Klaus and I vamped into the school finding the triplets room seeing Alina, Missy and Hope sitting on their beds. Closing the door with a wave of my hand I put my hands on my hips. "Okay, Alaric told me over the phone. But I want to hear what happened now."
"We used a forbidden spell to fight this dragon that was after a knife." Hope started.
Missy added. "And black magic isn't allowed."
"Even though you literally have taught us dark magic spells before. So we didn't see the problem." Alina throws her hands up in the air. "This all happened because of Landon Kirby."
Klaus crossed his arms over his chest flashing his eyes. "Who's Landon Kirby!"
"He works at the Grill. He makes me milkshakes. His adopted brother Rafael is a werewolf. We brought them and we tried to compel Landon but it didn’t work. Next morning he left with a knife." Hope sent us a sympathy look.
Placing a hand on Nik's shoulder calming him down. "Calm down. Now who actually started the spell?" Hope raised her hand where I nodded in agreement. "Alright Hope you have to help the others pick up trash in the square. Alina, Missy, you have to clean Alaric’s office."
"But mom." Alina whined at me.
Klaus waved his index finger at her. "Listen to your mother Alina."
The three girls left the room with a huff where I turned on my feet taking his hand in mine. "Let’s go find Henrik since they'll be busy." We walked through the hallways passing some younger kids who were running past us. We ended up finding our son sitting in one of the pillar windows.
"Daddy!" Henrik spun around rushing over and flinging his arms and legs around his father.
Nik held him up by his knees chuckling into his shoulder holding him. "Ohhh hey kiddo. What are you doing up here?" I smiled putting my hands together, always taken back by the sight of how much each of other's look alike. The same dirty blonde hair and bright blue eyes.
"Jackson and I are playing hide and seek. And he doesn't know I'm here." He sent a childish smirk like his dad.
Suddenly I jumped releasing a scream before someone touched my arm seeing Jackson standing behind us. "You're not as clever as you think, Henrik. Uh sorry Mrs. Mikaelson."
"It's okay, Jackson." I slumped my shoulders watching the boys go back and forth deciding who was the next seeker. Klaus and I decided to play along too since our girls were busy.
Alina's Pov
Putting away one of the books that Alaric had on the floor I sighed. I was supposed to be spending time with Jack and Henrik but now I'm stuck here. Missy noticed a knife on the desk pointing to it while Alaric was doing his research. "What are you trying to do with it, uncle Ric?"
“I’m trying to destroy it, Missy. Hydrochloric acid. I've tried explosives, an acetylene torch, a circular saw. I've even run over it with my truck. And according to legend, it's indestructible. And I'm starting to agree.” He explained to my younger sister.
The office door got opened and I saw the councilor named Emma come in. “So in addition to father, teacher, mentor, you've also added linguist, slayer of mythical creatures, and demolitions expert to your résumé. That's a lot to take on, especially all by yourself.”
He reassured her until the door opened again. “Emma. When I say I'm fine, I'm…”
Lizzie stormed in covered in milkshake or something all done the front of her shirt. “A jerk. You are a total jerk.”
“What happened to you, Liz? “ I asked her to put away books seeing that she was clearly upset and needed someone to talk to. Her and I have always clicked while Missy went with Josie and Hope was in the middle.
She glared at her father. “A Neanderthal from Mystic Falls High assaulted me with a milkshake. This stupid girl Dana was being... You know what? I can't even talk about it. But now Hope and Josie are all sisters in solidarity. But as I was walking home, I did the work and I dug deep, and I realized that this is all his fault.”
Uncle Ric made a face. “How is this my fault? “
She sniffed through tears almost full on sobbing. “Because if you had just been at that game instead of running around with Hope, then everything would've gone differently.
And it is not fair that she gets to know secrets that your own daughters don't. “
Emma said. “She has a point.”
“Not helping.” He whispered to her.
Lizzie snapped looking at me knowing I would understand. “I am not going back there.”
“Okay, that's fine, um... Why don't you go help the primary school students out in the garden. Alina go with her. Missy can help me here.” He suggested staring at Missy who was reading through the book about the knife.
Lizzie headed through the door and I followed her outside into the garden. “At least now you know why I am so screwed up.”
We sat down on one of the large rocks where she laid down on her back sighing heavily. “I’m sorry my sister is dealing with your dad so much. She just wants to look out for me and Missy since our parents haven’t been in town for two years.”
“I wonder if there’s a guy out there for me like you found Jackson?” Lizzie mumbles under her breath.
Shrugging my shoulders I did feel sorry that she hadn’t found the right guy yet. “I’m sure you’ll find somebody.”
“Lizzie. Alina!” A young boy ran over to us before we lifted our heads seeing a live statue creature growling at us.
Lizzie grabbed the kids hand and we ran back to the school entrance. “Get inside, Pedro! I need you to give me your hand. Now find my dad. Go.” She grabs his hand siphoning magic from him before he ran off.
The creature roared getting in the doorway as Lizzie and I intertwined hands siphoning off of my wolf side and the magic she took from Pedro. “Imperium monstrum.” The creature raised its hand and claws Lizzie before it launched me backwards from her.
Alairc, Emma and Missy came out of his office where I dropped down on my knees seeing she wasn’t moving. “Lizzie?
Oh, my God, Lizzie.”
“I don’t understand why it didn’t scrape me too. Ric, I might be able to heal her but I don’t know.” Glancing up at him with a worried look.
He shook his head picking his daughter up in his arms heading into one of the closed rooms laying her down and gathering everyone else in the school. “Alright we are on lock door period. No one goes outside. I want you all in your rooms. Upper class, you're on the buddy system. Lower class, I want you with Emma to the grand hall. Okay, let’s go…Emma take Lizzie with you and the kids.”
Everyone starts leaving where I rose to my feet from Lizzie’s side. “So what are we going to do?”
“I’m going to draw it away from the school with the knife and you are going to stay inside.” He started to walk away until I drew the knife from his hand and into mine.
“Motus. In case you forgot it didn’t hurt me yet. So I think we need to do this together.” Holding the knife in my hands he sighed letting me come with him. But shortly after the creature stole the knife where I ran off in search of our parents knowing we needed more help than we first expected.
Raelyn’s pov
Shoving my phone in my pocket Klaus and the boys were following my tail. “Why wouldn’t Alairc tell you why he put the school on lock down?” He asked me since we had gotten a text but got no real answer.
“I don’t know but - what the hell was that?” Whipping my head around we could hear something roaring throughout the hallways.
Klaus lowered himself on a knee grabbing Henrik’s shoulders. “Henrik go with Jackson while you’re mother and I go figure this out.” He nodded before Jackson led him away so we could vamp around the corner seeing Alairc and Hope standing in the hallway.
The creature roared again and it sounded like a gargoyle which shouldn’t exist while he told us what happened. “Yeah. Listen, it poisoned Lizzie. I'm guessing, to get my attention. Then it attacked me and took the Knife.”
“The Knife? The dragon Knife? And you're still breathing?” Hope snaps at him.
Ric got cut off by her. “Oh, I have a theory about that.”
“Well, save it, because we had to take down that containment spell to get inside the school, meaning our monster can get out.” Hope rolls her eyes.
We heard footsteps running towards us where we heard our daughters' voices. “Mom. Dad!”
“A containment spell?…Missy. Alina, thank goodness you’re okay.” Slumping my shoulders in relief seeing Alina following Missy.
Alaric realized what she wanted to do. “Lizzie wanted to make sure whatever attacked her didn't escape into the world. Good girl. All right, well, guess we better find it... ...before it makes the evening news.” He grabbed an ax off the wall getting ready to fight since he was just a human now.
“So how'd you take the containment spell down. You’re not a siphon?” Klaus raised a brow at his eldest daughter.
Joise came around the corner before we all slowly walked through the school searching for the creature. “She didn't. I did.”
We all halted in our track’s hearing the gargoyle growling at the top of the stairs. It came towards Hope and she fell down getting out of the way before Alairc jumped in front of her. “Dad!” Josie cried seeing it pointed the knife tip at his heart.
“Get behind it..” Klaus told me before we vamped behind the gargoyle while it was distracted. We grabbed it by the horns where it spun around staring at us instead.
Alairc tried to hit it over the head with his ax. “Fluctus inpulsa.” Alina raised her hands magically, knocking the knife out the creature’s hand.
“Good idea, Lina.” Hope rushed over to Josie. “Josie, help me.”
She asked her. “How?”
“Just repeat after me. Fluctus inpulsa.” Alina nods, holding her hands up while the other two witches follow.
Josie siphons from Hope following the girls. “Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa. Fluctus inpulsa!” The gargoyle suddenly exploded into pieces in front of our eyes.
“All that trouble for a knife. Hope it was worth it buddy.” Missy picked up the knife from the floor.
Spinning onto my feet I snapped at Alaric moving my arms over my chest. “You’ve got some explaining to do, Saltzman. Cause I thought my kids were safe here.”
“Mystic Falls, a town where nothing ever changes is a joke.” Klaus dryly chuckled, draping his arm around my waist tugging me into his chest.
“If you'd asked me a week ago... I would have told you I knew the difference between myth and fact. I would have said that supernaturals were limited to the species under this roof. I would have said that folklore and fairy tales were just stories. But I can no longer say that any of that's true. 'Cause just a few days ago, we were confronted by the existence of a dragon. And then, today, our campus was terrorized by a gargoyle come to life. Some of us... were forced to fight, We won. This time. They were drawn here by a Knife that went missing earlier this week. And for whatever reason, these creatures consider us to be the enemy. In their minds, we're the villains because we won't give them what they want. We don't even know why they want it. But we're gonna find out.” Alairc slowly walked around the room explaining to all the students hearing some of them muttering under their breaths in shock. He lifted his gaze up to me and Klaus saw us intertwine our hands knowing that we smiled at his last words of the speech. “I can't say for sure what their true intentions are. I can't say there won't be more attacks. That's why I'm telling you this. To warn you. To ask you to look out for each other. To what’s best for one another. Because we're more than just a school. We're a family.”
Comments really appreciated ❤️

i was gonna say this in the tags of your post but my tumblr app is being annoying and slow :/
thinking about it, i'm pretty sure klaus + ben are about hurting each other through the horrors of living in a codependent nightmare. ben is logistically dependent on klaus (he literally can't talk to anyone else unless klaus lets him, which sounds so abusive when you say it like that), and klaus is emotionally dependent on ben (and selfish about it because that's who he is). klaus has all the power in this relationship due to the nature of his powers, so his side of hurting his sibings with them is more like... guilt and mockery and control (especially when ben ever expresses wanting something *more* than just klaus) rather than throwing them into walls
klaus's powers are over death, not life, so as much as he loves ben and however unbalanced the power dynamic is, he still can't actually give ben what he wants. and it festers. klaus isn't like the others imo, he gets *clever* about it; it's more of a psychological manipulation thing (which klaus is soooo good at tbh, remember the mind games he played with the eyeball guy to help five??). and ben is clever enough to know exactly what he's doing and get sick of it but he still can't DO anything, which is the whole problem
the core issue isn't on purpose on klaus's part, but it IS rooted in the way reggie sabotaged him as a child. if klaus knew about his immortality when they were younger, he could've dealt with whatever killed ben without the fear of dying permanently himself (which might have rendered all of the others helpess) (except probs five bc he's so devoted to his fam regardless of the personal cost, but he wasn't there, so it's a moot point) and saved ben, using his powers to HELP. but he didn't know, so he couldn't do that. klaus's lessened fear of his powers came too late and too isolated from the rest of their family to make a difference for ben
thanks for the essay but,
ben literally stayed because he *wanted to* and never mentioned it in all 17 years he spent around klaus, making him feel guilty about it and knowing he *can't* control his powers and refuses to use them because he's scared (and most selfless sibling) (to me)

advice: how do i get rid of a man who is more powerful than me and holds an incredible grudge against me no matter how many great gifts i offer as reparation?
Ask my muse for advice on or off anon. "My old friend's derisory brother hasn't grown weary of the interminable chase yet?" It was somewhat unexpected to hear her seeking his advice on the matter so directly. He considered the particulars of her phrasing for a moment before presenting his voice again. "When was the last time you judged the nature of Klaus Mikaelson without allowing the torment he punished you with to possibly cloud your vision? Great gifts offered as reparations...You speak as if we were discussing how to placate the wrath of some unfathomable titan. Nothing could be further from the truth." Tristan assured in calm certainty. "People often misunderstand my preferences as a matter of birthright. The fact is while I freely admit high standards, it is capacity for greatness that I seek in others. Let's review your hunting mongrel under that light then, shall we? Not in what he is but only his victories throughout the last millennium. He sought to end a curse afflicting him for five centuries only to be bested by the cleverness and tenacity of a single human damsel. Another five centuries passed until the moment he finally stumbled upon that goal and while I concede living doppelgangers as a rare requirement for his freedom I cannot help but wonder...Capricious and full of inventive alternatives as the magical arts often are...Wouldn't Katherine Pierce have found a quicker path to such a goal from one witch or another if unburdened by his perpetual annoyance? But very well. He gained access to the entirety of his nature. Not to mention the possibility to spread a new, formidable species upon the world. And he had, humorously enough, fancied himself a king of sorts for centuries. Can you imagine the easiness of the path ahead of him? An entire species intrinsically devoted to him. Emerging into new existence with the ferocious desire to loyally please him. Except that even they couldn't bear the failure of such a repulsive excuse for a leader. Well...He will always have New Orleans, at least. A city that...Somewhat tolerates him? Have you heard of a single citizen there, be it wolf, witch or vampire, aligned with Klaus for any reason other than the same fear that inspires your necessity to escape? I'm not insinuating him as entirely brainless and spineless whenever his brawn proves insufficient. Some degree of low cunning and fortitude are fated to appear with age. But tell me, surveying his history in merit alone...Isn't he beneath the lowliest of your temporal minions? Isn't he minuscule?" He offered her a meaningful look. "Of course none of this transforms him or his resources into less of an immediate, mortal danger for you. Because, as you rightfully pointed out, he holds power that surpasses your own. It is perfectly understandable for someone who endured his petty retribution so long to perceive him along the lines of some looming, tortuous shadow forever waiting to devour her. And yet you asked me how to get rid of him. My first advice would be for you to remember you are not dealing with some fabled, mighty hybrid as his roars and temper tantrums would proclaim. For you to remember...You already claimed victory over him once. No matter how arduously the agony he bestowed upon your eternity ever since might have tried to erase. Don't let yourself be terrified by him. Once you have a clearer picture of the obstacle in your way...Then you can prepare yourself to remove it."

I love that the Sonic movies are just big old found family stories. It gives me such happy butterflies seeing it grow, and Sonic getting to be a hero and yet not having to totally sacrifice being a kid. They've given us such a soft Sonic. A soft Sonic who says I love you, gives hugs, and treats his friends as more than just friends or teammates, he treats them like family.
Sonic has never been cruel, exactly, or even very cold, but these movies have given him a special familial kind of warmth that I think is often neglected in the games. And it's so, so nice to see it.

Holy cow, guys. I took a bunch of screenshots with the intention of trying to see what items Sparrow Ben has in his room but instead I think I just accidentally discovered that Klaus and Sparrow Ben have the same room.
So two incredibly clever fans @writing-by-candlelight and @nikkiwriteswords have already done some amazing work trying to figure out the layout of the Umbrella Academy in these two posts [1, 2] respectively.
Thanks to them, we can assume that Klaus’ bedroom was eventually expanded and merged into Viktor’s bedroom as evidenced by Viktor’s brick wall also being present in Klaus’ room:

The growing in popularity theory that Allison's actions in S3 are because she rumored herself to be happy just doesn't sit right with me. I loved her anti-hero arc, adored it actually, but that doesn't mean I also don't find those actions abhorrent. She's made horrible decisions as a person, but as a character, she's as fantastic as she is fascinating.
The idea that Allison went off the rails because she rumored herself is an understandable attempt to reconcile with some of the bad things she's done, and I get that. It sucks when characters you love disappoint you and do something shocking and horrible. But it's a solution that's far too simple and does a complete disservice to her character by cancelling all accountability for her actions and ignoring her depth as a damaged, struggling human being.
Allison has always, always been accustomed to using her power for personal gain. It's how she got what she wanted as a child and later as an adult. Besides rumoring Claire which resulted in her losing custody, she rumored her first husband, Patrick, into loving her, which is no different than what she did to Luther, we just don't see it first hand. To say that her behavior in S3 is only in-character through taking away her own agency by rumoring herself is canonically untrue, and flattens her into something boring and perfect which Allison is anything but.
She's compassionate, she's spiteful. She's gentle, she's cruel. She's understanding, she's selfish. She's put-together, she's a trainwreck. She's a great mom friend, she's the worst enemy you could ever have.
Allison Hargreeves isn't all good or all bad, she's both in varying, shifting shades just like all of the other Hargreeves or any well-written character. She's faceted, incredible, and in a lot of pain. And pain isn't always pretty; often times it's ugly, and occasionally it brings out our very worst.

If TUA S4 actually does put Five in school to help him “blend in” or whatever, all I beg is that at some point “Teenagers” by MCR plays over a montage of Five really going through it in school and barely containing his homicidal rage while some snotty teen shoves him into a locker.
Finally Five has enough and verbally eviscerates Head Bully until they run, tail-tucked between their legs. Some other kids see and Five accidentally becomes the champion of school losers. All the nerds and outcasts flock to him for protection and absolutely no one gets pushed around on his watch. Oh were you thinking of stealing Jimmy’s lunch money? Too bad, Five Hargreeves is smiling at you from across the cafeteria, which means you have about three seconds to run.
Eventually Five begrudgingly discovers that he’s fond of the awkward gaggle of teens that look up to him. This is the only reason he goes from “I’m almost 60 years old with an IQ of 190, goddammit, I’m not going to school!” to “Yes, I am getting up at 6am to catch the bus; school starts at 8 o’clock sharp and I refuse to be late”. Those idiot kids NEED him, okay, and he won’t disappoint.

Katherine and Damon couldn't raise Lizzy because Klaus would mash her up just to get at Katherine.
BUT SINCE IT TURNS OUT HE DIDNT CARE ANYWAY
If they did keep her she would have the cutest time asking Damon the wildest shit when she's like f o u r.
- Do you believe in g o d??
- Is a f o r k a weapon? ...a fork... you could stab it. Like t h a t...?
- Why do we have nightmares, isn't your brain meant to be on your side??
- Are thoughts made of atoms?? What about s h a d o w s? What about w o r d s...
Damon wouldn't think it was cute cause she's pushing him to a migraine daily but when he boasts about how clever she is to Stefan xxxxx
Katherine's that mom who would leave for d a y s and Lizzy would miss her with him BUT WE DONT TALK ABOUT THAT EHEUEHEUEUH

I am literally obsessed with your clato fic! I know you’re no longer as active within the clato fandom, but I couldn’t help but wonder how you plan or planned to complete the fic, sort the plot out. Again, your such a wonderful writer and I dearly appreciate your work.
this is literally such a nice compliment to give someone, thank you!!!!!!!!! ilysm for this tbh. and yeah i kinda stopped caring so much about clato after high school (even though clove always has a spot in my heart, my feral angry child), but i always keep wondering about that fic and whether i might ever truly finish it. i rarely finish any multichapter fic i start because it hits a dead end at some point lol, motivation is hard to find.
my plan for the fic was for cato and clove to decompress after the hunger games and then find a purpose or motivation outside of doing whatever an authority figure tells them to (which was what made them very static characters despite their vast potential, and at first largely disliked), and also to live a happy domestic life except with their own brand of violent and crazy :D i think they'd like one of those mountain vacation homes because district 2 is basically a mountain district, and there is a lot of fresh air/resources/space from civilization (given their leanings toward murder neither cato nor clove strikes me as a people person imo), and while weapons and combat in general is definitely going to remain a big part of their life (they were raised to be child soldiers during their formative years and sacrifice themselves for battle glory it's not just a mentality they could give up easily), i also think they could both create an aspect of their lifestyle that is nonviolent (basically something that's a healthy expression of their personalities that isn't....... murder alfjelfkdldjfjsk). what struck me about clove as a character even though she was a sidepiece with little to no characterization is that she could essentially be however i saw her, which is something i believed to be very cool, and i see her as someone who's volatile and insane and brutal and unkind and independent, stubborn and selfish and in private moments soft and vulnerable (or in public - like during the iconic singular clato scene in existence where she's on the verge of death and calls for him out of trust and fear). cato is violent and passionate as she is but she can also be clever and logical and levelheaded (cornucopia scene notwithstanding) which balances cato out and makes them the perfect murder team. their vicious and murderous mentalities complement each other and they'll come to realize that (after the initial conflict and angst because it hurts clove that he couldn't save her in time, and that hurts cato too, and they're both idiots who don't know how to process Feelings because a. teenagers and b. murderous upbringing). also they're not heroically battling against coin, not heroes at all, their primary concern is self preservation and each other (which surprises many of the Main Characters that pop up as meaningless side characters in my fic, to balance out the career tributes' lacking characterizations)
essentially think of them as a mini thg version of klayley if you've watched any tvdverse show (granted at the time i wrote the fic i don't think i had started watching tvd/the originals yet but klaus and hayley could totally be cato and clove in their fleshed out forms :D)
but regardless none of that really worked out and now one hastily worded chapter is now sitting on my ao3 untouched

That struck a nerve, but just like Klaus she isn't about to make it obvious.
"I didn't compel either of them to fall in love with me. You see, Klaus- people actually like me. I know you can't relate, but people fall in love with me without fear, or compulsion. If you need a second opinion- just ask your brother-"

"You remember how he betrayed you for me, right?"

THE SCOFF THAT CAME WAS NOT ENTIRELY FORCED , for there was a hint of disbelief that came with her words.  ❝ It's cute —  foolishly naïve , but cute — that you think anyone likes you , Katerina. Of the idiot girl you'd been back then , I could almost forgive it , but I thought you'd gotten cleverer since then . ❞ He tutted , a mock of disappointment. But at the mention of Elijah , he felt his face harden , the glee found in mocking her disappearing in a flash of anger at the reminder . He reigned it in with effort , tried to appear unaffected and spin it back on her . ❝ As I said , far from original , ❞ he breathed the words , a dangerous threat residing in the vowels . ❝ My brother's weak for that face . Desire is not love , Katerina. Do not embarrass yourself by thinking otherwise . ❞

Well isn't this a clever 'work around' my dream come true, I get to be sandwiched between the Martel's. @ladamedemartel @lordofthestrix
Tumblr media
Who asks the other on dates: Katherine doesn't ask, she either tells them theyre going out or announces shes bored and either waits for Aurora to make a scavenger hunt, or for Tristan to arrange something
Who is the bigger cuddler: Katherine is a needy little shit, but she only cuddles on her terms. its ok tho bc her terms are quite often and she just climbs in laps- fully in denial that shes needy at all.
Who initiates holding hands more often: Tristan, usually with aurora, for Katherine its an absent minded affection she doesnt think to do very often.
Who remembers anniversaries: Apparently neither of the girls even know what day it is at any given time, so Tristan.
Who is more possessive: I imagine its all varying degrees and levels depending on the day, the ruling planet, the tides, and season.
Who gets more jealous: Honestly, and imma tattle on her and shell hate me for it but- Katherine. Because she knows she is and always will be the expendable one in that little whatever they call it. If someone had to go it will always be her. Some days she can take it out of sight out of mind after all theyre not serious and she doesnt have feelings for either of them, some days she cant and on those days she's particularly withdrawn and 'i dont give a fuck' in attitude. Very pouty and quiet.
Who is more protective: The Martel's are protective of each other first and foremost, Katherine is experienced in surviving on her own- however I would put fourth the possibility that if it seemed fun and fucked up Klaus' day one of the Martel's could possibly aid Katherine if she required it.
Who is more likely to cheat: Depending on if its even applicable I would say Katherine, and most likely acting out because she cant use her words and doesnt know how to say she feels left out and or neglected.
Who initiates sexy times the most: Is either of them paying attention to her? No? Then it's Katherine. Obviously for attention lmfao.
Who dislikes PDA the most: I think they all like being publicly claimed, though Katherine is a little more reserved in her affections for Tristan when Aurora is around- for obvious reasons.
Who kills the spider: Whoever feels inclined to do it if at all? Katherine says the spider isnt worth disrespecting her red bottoms like that <3
Who asks the the other to marry them: AHAHAHA Listen if the words came out of anyone it would be in the context of Katherine being asked to officiate a wedding for the other two.
Who buys the other flowers or gifts: Still 100% behind the idea that Katherine just brings home things she finds that are lavender scented and gives them to aurora, bath bombs, air spray, dryer sheets???? They dont even use them?? But it was lavender scented and Katherine brought it home bc shes a good impulsive hunter gatherer.
Who would bring up possibly having kids: None of them, They dont even invite Katherine's scary vampire daughter to dinner.
Who is more nervous to meet the parents: They all dead son.
Who sleeps on the couch when the other is angry: Katherine has her own room, so none of them, and if she really wants to get away well theres a boarding house in mystic falls with her soul mate she can go bother. <3
Who tries to make up first after arguments: Neither of the girls <3 theyre too stuborn
Who tells the other they love them more often: This is clearly Tristan and Aurora to each other. Aurora more tells Katherine how pretty and smart and special she is, and Katherine is more than ok with that.

So I got into The Vampire Diaries, thinking I'd be all in on Elena and Damon, and then later Caroline and Klaus, only to be GIGABRAINED and see the utter superiority that is ELENA AND KLAUS.

Conversation
Chickens
[Scene #1]
Josie: Uh, why are you putting, um, chicken footprints on the floor?
Klaus: That clever bastard Elijah got a hold of an Australorp.
[Josie looks confused]
Klaus: Ah. Hello. The quietest and calmest of all the chickens. Damn him.
[Scene #2]
Josie: Can someone please explain to me what Klaus and Elijah are doing with those chickens?
Lizzie: They have a bet to see who can keep a chicken in the academy the longest without getting busted by Mom.
Josie: And why are they doing this?
Hope: The place they bought them only had one pig.
[Scene #3]
Jossie: And if she kept saying no?
Elijah: I would just keep– [Winces] Keep--keep trying.
Josie: I know there's a chicken under there.
Elijah: Oh, thank God. It's pecked through one pair of my loafers.
[Chicken clucks]
Josie: So that's all you'd do?
Elijah: That's all you can do.
Josie: Is it?
[Chicken clucks]
Josie: Isn't that Klaus’ chicken?
Elijah: Disgusting beasts. I don't know why I ever agreed to this bet.
Josie: So call it off.
Elijah: And lose $20?
[Scene #4]
Klaus: To the victor of the spoils. Your bird recover okay?
Elijah: Physically, yes. Emotionally, it was a long night. Next week: Ferrets?
Notes - If you want to know what happens to the chicken (that it needed to recover), go watch House M.D. Season 7 episode 19. Or just type in: “House M.D. Chickens” on Youtube.

The fatal flaw in Hope's characterization and How it relates to Klaus
Since Klaus' funeral I have not been able to get this out of my head so here goes....
Hope is again and again compared to Klaus. Since the very first episode, she has been compared to Klaus. But she is not like Klaus. And I would argue she is more like Hayley. Yes, she has a temper. So do both her parents. But she does not enjoy violence. Klaus will only use it as a last resort, if he can't get his way with words or manipulation, only then will he get violent. But he enjoys the violence. He enjoys the act of domination, of knowing your enemy knows he has been defeated. He is cocky, extremely confident and most importantly extremely clever.
He manipulates situations from behind the scenes like a puppet master. He has an element of drama to this fighting too. The oldest flashback we see of him fighting is with Elijah where he cuts his belt and makes a joke. That is all for the drama. The with the Marcel's Army vs Klaus fight in S1E8 The River in Reverse, Klaus lets Marcel's vampires beat him, lets them think they won before he goes all out and shows his true power. It's all for the drama. Again in S3E22 The Bloody Crown, he is getting the crowd to rage, he is manipulating them into the exact place he wants them. Between S4 and S5 Klaus was going all over the world killing his enemies to make the world safer for Hope.
My point is Klaus is clever. He thinks strategically, with deductive reasoning, multiple steps ahead of everyone else. Including his family.
None of this translates to Hope.
Not to say that Hope is stupid. She is smart but she she more book smart and Klaus was a strategist art-of-war type of smart. Hope knows information. Klaus understands the information and knows how to use it.
Hope also does not have Klaus' three steps ahead approach to .... anything. For Hope the only problem that exists is the one that is right in front of her this very moment and nothing else.
A good metaphor would be Klaus is a scalpel and Hope is a chainsaw.
But then, she doesn't need to be the scalpel. She is powerful enough to be the chainsaw. True, but she can't be in multiple places at once. She'd had to choose who to save multiple times in this show. One of them is usually Landon. And Hope wants him to be safe so she refuses to train him. This is the exact opposite of what Klaus would have done. If Hope was like Klaus she would not have wanted him to be in danger but she would not have refused to train him.
Klaus hopes for the best and prepares for the worst. Hope hopes for the best.
Side note: Hope looks down on nerd stuff that Landon likes. And let me tell you this Klaus Mikaelson was a nerd. He read poems, paints(he mentions painters over the course of the show, I don't remember them right now), he likes Shakespeare, he was a theatre kid. Today we have nerd that are into Star Wars and DnD. But if you look at Klaus' past you see that he is a nerd. Nerd just looked different back then.
The mark that I think the writers missed with Hope and something that plays into the like father, like daughter thing is that Hope isn't cunning like her father. Klaus, for a millennia was a vampire, he couldn't be killed but he was still not nearly as powerful as Hope is today or he would become after becoming the Hybrid. So he had to be cunning. He has shown the ability and patience to wait a prey out. Wait for the right moment to strike. He doesn't always antagonize everyone. He does have the ability to think things through. He behaves like a proper King and a proper army General.
And none of this translates into Hope.
Instead Hope is more impulsive and short-sighted. She is not going to poke the bear to see if it wakes up. She is just going to kill the bear.
So while she might have the power to do bad things she doesn't have the cunning to be Klaus Mikaelson: The Great Evil.

Yes, I'm heavily invested in Klaus and Elena. It has obliterated all others to become my most heavily-favourite ship. So don't mind me just dropping some similarities between the two because why not?
1. Mistreatment by at least one parent
Mikael abused Klaus. No words for it. Mikael was, is and will forever be a terrible father to Klaus.
Isobel abandoned Elena. Honestly, This never sat well with me. If Isobel was so obsessed with supernaturals, she could've helped her own daughter instead of chasing the thrill of vampirism and hiding her guilt and love under her no-humanity persona.
2. Extremely powerful
Klaus is the Original Hybrid and a descendant of the Mikaelsons and the North-East Atlantic Pack, one of the seven werewolf royalty bloodlines.
Elena is a Petrova doppelganger and a descendant of the Petrovas, a family more than two thousand years old (older than even the Mikaelsons, the werewolves and the Hollow)
3. Very loyal to family and family values
Klaus never betrayed 'Always and Forever' and would burn down the world to save the ones he loves.
Elena would always be ready to sacrifice her own life if it meant it kept the ones that she loved safe.
4. Creative
Klaus paints.
Elena journals.
5. Narcissistic
Klaus, in the end, always cares for his gains only.
Elena is highly self-absorbed.
6. Take time opening up their hearts to others
Klaus, due to his trust issues.
Elena, due to her extremely introverted personality (Her wiki page states, I quote, that she is an internal processor. Also, most websites list her as an introvert.)
7. Reliance on loyalty and trust
Klaus weighs heavily on loyalty. He doesn't tolerate anyone who isn't loyal to him.
Elena doesn't like to lie (pretty clear in S1) nor being lied to and treasures trust.
8. Want to be understood and seen as WHAT and HOW and WHO they ACTUALLY are
Klaus, because of being stripped from his birthright werewolf nature thanks to his mother AND being rid of goodness thanks to an abusive Mikael.
Elena, because of always being compared to Katherine and Tatia and never actually being viewed as herself.
9. Short-tempered, express their anger in different ways
Klaus, through threats and mild violence which escalates into severe violence if he's provoked.
Elena, primarily through taunts. (S4, saw Caroline and Stefan dancing. Broke Liz's arm. Also, in S4, was angry that Stefan and Damon were torturing her. Taunts Stefan.)
10. Harbingers of death
Klaus, because he's THE Klaus Mikaelson.
Elena, because literally, everyone around her has died thanks to her Petrova doppelganger status.
11. Familiar feelings of loneliness
Klaus and Elena are the only children of their respective parents (parents, not parent).
Both were technically adopted (Klaus by Mikael, Elena by Grayson and Miranda Gilbert) and were quite different from their respective siblings.
12. Ruthless and cunning (both good and bad qualities)
Klaus, because he's very clever at making strategies that have even outsmarted his siblings (and yet, he's rarely been outsmarted)
Elena, if given the chance, is also clever and quick-thinking (S2, first meet with Elijah. Elena quickly mentions the moonstone)
13. Hunter's Curse
Klaus killed the Original Five hunters.
Elena killed Connor.
14. Bonded by blood
'Twas Petrova blood that created vampires and Petrova blood that bound and freed Klaus.
15. Perseverance
Klaus kept gunning for breaking his curse for more than a thousand years, showing that he never gives up.
Elena never gives up on any of her goals and targets.
16. Controlling
Klaus controlled the lives of his siblings to the point of their decisions and romances.
Elena controlled Jeremy in order to hide the supernatural world from him and keep him safe. Compelled his memories every single time trouble came around the corner.
17. Possessive of their significant others and family members.
Klaus with Caroline, Cami, Marcel and Rebekah (didn't let Marcel and Rebekah start a relationship, got between Tyler and Caroline, compelled Cami to forget about him and nearly drove her insane)
Elena with Stefan and Jeremy (got jealous when Stefan had revenge-sex with Rebekah even though they weren't really in a relationship and the compelling Jeremy affair)
18. Emotionally similar.
Klaus and Elena are emotionally quite strong during tough times and only break down when they come to face with startling revelations and situations.
Klaus with being cornered and suspected by his siblings of using Hope to create Hybrids.
Elena with Jeremy and Jenna's death and the revelation of how grave the past of the Petrova doppelgangers is.
19. Romantics.
Klaus with his several grand gestures.
Elena always valuing the little moments.
20. Significant family kills (tit-for-tat, I guess?)
Klaus turned Jenna into a vampire and used her in the sacrifice.
Elena killed Kol to complete the Hunter's Mark and find the Cure.
21. Mental issues
Klaus has a fear of abandonment, paranoia, trust and anger issues.
Elena has severe depression, PTSD and Survivor's Guilt.
22. Corruption via Vampirism
Let's be clear — vampirism fucked up both of them.
Klaus was stripped away of his goodness. He became sadistic (which is why people consider him to be paranoid) and hedonistic with a lot of trust and anger issues.
It was clear Elena's characterization went for a toss the second she turned. She became highly self-absorbed and whilst her compassion and goodness were there as well, it was sadly overshadowed by her negative qualities. Ergo, this made her a very-much hated character of the show.
I swear to God, this is the reason I stopped watching TVD S4-S8. The way her character arc crashed into nowhere and simply depended upon two men is one of the main reasons why I think Nina left the show. If Elena would have been branched out more and given a storyline that only depended on herself and herself only (like her angel storyline or something like going on a cross-country trip to break the sire bond since she had enough of the Salvatores and coming back with a girlfriend) or something that involved her with Baroline and/or Tyler, her characterization would have been much better.
23. Selfish love of a parent that left them alive
Esther turned her children into vampires to ensure her children lived and didn't suffer the same fate that Henrik did.
John (unbeknownst to Elena) exchanged his lifeforce to ensure Elena lived and never turned into a vampire because John never wanted Elena to turn into a vampire.
24. Love towards children
Klaus really loved Hope and freed Marcel from slavery.
Elena was April Young's babysitter when April was just a child and made a huge impact on April.
25. Insecurities
Klaus was highly insecure about being the only different one from all of his siblings.
Elena became insecure thanks to her always being comparison with Katherine and Tatia and being the only powerless person (besides Matt) in the entire gang. This is ironic, considering her blood literally created vampires (again, so much potential)
26. Share similar companies of people that have a huge impact on their lives — Stefan, Rebekah, Elijah and Caroline.
REBEKAH MIKAELSON
Klaus & Rebekah are half-siblings. Rebekah stuck by Klaus all these years and truly loved him even with the amount of time both had and have betrayed each other.
Elena & Rebekah (honourable mention) make quite an entertaining yet resourceful and clever pair. They work together surprisingly well. Beklena would've been wonderful together both with and without Elena's humanity. Both value human lives and share a dream of living a normal, human life and starting a family.
2. ELIJAH MIKAELSON
Klaus & Elijah are half-siblings. Klaus relies on Elijah's counsel and calmness. Elijah deeply wishes for Klaus' redemption and also relies on his brother for strength. Also, both brothers, when together, make excellent combatants and strategists.
Elena & Elijah share similar values of trust, compassion, loyalty and humanity. Make quite a clever and wonderful pair of acquaintances.
3. STEFAN SALVATORE
Klaus & Stefan are friends and have a 'brother from another mother' bond. Klaus views Stefan as a brother who understood him. He wanted Stefan’s friendship so bad that he compelled him to remain loyal and do whatever he said. Both as a duo work together quite well.
Elena & Stefan are ex-lovers but presently really close friends and family. Romantic or platonic, Stefan and Elena share highly similar values. Both highly value humanity and compassion, know each other quite well and work together very harmoniously. Make quite a wonderful and heart-warming pair.
4. CAROLINE FORBES
Klaus & Caroline are ex-lovers on very good terms. Klaus loves Caroline because he saw her as strong, beautiful and full of light. Klaus never tried to corrupt her. Caroline actually manages to bring out some good from Klaus.
Elena & Caroline have a highly competitive and toxic friendship at first. But after sharing similar paranormal circumstances, their friendship becomes healthier and stronger. Elena stands up to Damon when Elena realises that Damon was feeding on Caroline. Elena always had faith that Caroline could make it as a vampire. Caroline always wants good for Elena. After Caroline was saved from werewolves, Elena has a sleepover with Caroline along with Bonnie to cheer Caroline up. Caroline always tells Elena the truth even if it hurt, which helped in Elena being tethered to the ground. Caroline is stronger, mentally, as compared to Elena. Elena needed someone to fall upon and Caroline always supported Elena. Caroline trusted Elena and always shared her dilemmas with Elena. Caroline also helped Elena in opening up to people (In S6, Elena confessed to Caroline that she felt lost after Damon and Bonnie died). At the end of the series, both literally become sisters-in-law.
Yeah, this became really long XD but anyways, if anyone has anything else to add, please do!
Au revoir!

What does Tristan think about werewolves?
Tristan is a wolf himself! Didn't you know? Elijah described him as one once. Why would his sire lie?
No. The slightly more serious answer is that Tristan doesn't care one way or the other about the classic vampire vs werewolf feud. I said this before but Aya and Tristan make for an interesting working duo because if you hear their lines they both embody some of the quintessential signature traits you may expect from the archetypal elitist vampire, but they embody completely different traits. And Aya was the one who got the annoyance towards other supernatural species: Aya: Don't let your association with werewolf trash cloud the opportunity before you. Tristan, unprompted and before their dynamic devolved into torturing and killing spouses, made an admission of notability about Hayley's position as the alpha of a pack of werewolves the first time he met her: Tristan: Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tristan de Martel, and you must be the famous Hayley Marshall-Kenner, Alpha to the Crescent wolves. I must use Hayley as the base for most of this even when she is more than just a werewolf at this point but I suppose that is a point in itself. Other seasons showed that those very preoccupied with the animosity between werewolves and vampires tend to see hybrids as offensive or repulsive. Tristan thinks very poorly of Klaus particularly but he openly admits an approving interest in the concept of that chimeric nature alone: Tristan: There are few novelties left in the world, especially to us. A creature such as you is certainly among them.
Hayley: Yeah? And what kind of a creature might that be? Tristan: A hybrid, of course. He also grows extremely close to someone of dual nature in the post-ocean part of my personal timeline but there is no wolf side involved there and I tend to ramble if I don't focus on the ask. Obligatory mention to usual head-canons/analysis I mentioned before. Tristan keeping very old world aesthetics but acting in his core as an agent of change. He likes novelty and being surprised and so on. So...Yes. It isn't an spectacularly scandalous answer I'm afraid. What Tristan feels towards werewolves in general is...Nothing in particular. I do think that he tries to learn from what he observes in other species. He admitted in a couple of my threads that he admires the kind of resourcefulness that tends to be common in witches. He thinks investing it in in the whole "protector of nature and balance" is a waste when there are far more interesting paths to explore bur he admits that any young vampire could gain a lot from observing the way those gifted with magic deal with their troubles as far as finding clever, imaginative paths to obtain what their desire. In a similar vein, what he might find curious in werewolves is how much of a team player a lot of them are. Very far away from the more complex power-plays and intrigues his kind is fond of (And Tristan is remarkably talented at) There are a couple of points of interest there that might merit a brief consideration. All in all? Perfect neutrality. Don't get in his way or annoy him and he won't make some derisive remark about curs before ripping out your heart.

I actually have no words to describe how much I love the idea but I will try:
Hope Marshall, attending the Salvatore School and knowing her father, the big bad Klaus Mikaelson, is out there murdering people while Josie and the other witches make fun of her for being a villain in Lizzie's Star Wars trauma journal. But she can't say anything because she can't out herself as a Mikaelson. So she just takes it.
And then both of her parents die and everyone knows she's a Mikaelson. The bullying gets worse. Someone hates her enough to light her dorm on fire and destroys the last connection she had to the good side of her father. The school never catches who did it. One twin spreads rumors about her and the other hates her for it. Students have access to the library and read all about the horrible things her family has done to theirs. They resent her for it, as if she was even alive at the time. They say she's the same. And the worst part is, maybe they're right because she had two friends in her time there, and one died because of her and the other was only using her to get to her family.
So Hope stays alone. It's better that way anyway. The people she cares about have a tendency to die on her. The solution is to stop caring about anyone. It's a good plan.
Until Milton Greasley shows up and ruins it.
He's new, and as far as he knows, his family has no connection to the supernatural world. They were never affected by the Mikaelsons. He doesn't even know the name. He reads the book and he knows the stories. He's friends with Josie. He hears all the nasty rumors. He's friends with Lizzie. He knows all of Hope's tiniest flaws. But he doesn't care. Not only is he just a genuinely decent guy but he also knows what it's like to be the outcast. After all, he was the ADHD kid in a strict school and church. So really, it just makes him like her more.
He never met Hope Marshall or any of the Mikaelsons. All he knows is that Hope is a sexy superhero who saves him and everyone else at the school without a second thought, and he's just annoying and starstruck enough to not take the hint when she tries to push him away. He's read enough comics that he knows the toll it takes on someone to always be the hero and always save the day. He sees Hope's Superman complex clear as day. And he doesn't really know what to do about it, but he does what any good sidekick would do and assembles an Avengers Squad. Because heroes need support. Even tribrid ones.
He watches everyone slowly start to see her the way he does. Josie starts to realize Hope's not just her name or the rumors she'd spread about her. She sees her as a real person like MG. Kaleb starts to see Hope as the protector she is. He sees her as a badass hero like MG. Lizzie starts to realize Hope isn't out to get her. She sees her as someone struggling with her trauma and the burden of being a hero like MG.
And it's not because of MG. Hope did it herself. She talked to Josie, and she talked to Lizzie. They resolved all the deceptions. She let the other students help her and carry some of her burden. They got see how strong she really is. All MG did was start the squad. Hope led it and made it into something strong and beautiful.
He knows her. He knows every part of her - the good, the bad, and the ugly. No one understands the trials and tribulations of being a super-powered hero more than a comic book nerd, and no one understands family drama and abandonment issues more than a Mikaelson. They get each other in ways that the other students couldn't. They make a good duo. The all-powerful tribrid hero and her loyal, clever sidekick. The brain to her brawn. The warmth to her chill.
Maybe if MG had been the one in the library or if Hope had given him his tour, if things had happened just a little differently ...

Serial Killer Plot Bunny
Tumblr media
Okay, this came from the fact that the zodiac killer might have been identified. For anyone who has read Wanderlust or Death Becomes Thee, you know that I have a weird fascination with true crime.
WARNING: this is DARK. SERIOUSLY- DARK DARK DARK. TWISTED.
We begin with a love letter between Klaus and Caroline. It is innocent enough, nothing seemingly out of place. Once the letter is over, we cut to a news broadcast set in about 2019 or something. A serial killer from the 1960s (I will have to come up with a name) has been identified.
Klaus Mikaelson, who died six months prior to the discovery.
The discovery was made by their granddaughter who found a large box of love letters between Klaus and his wife, Caroline. The world of course erupts with theories and speculations and ideas of what made Klaus kill and the story would unfold in the love letters.
The story would jump between past and present.
In the 1960s, Klaus was killing young blonde woman in the Richmond area of Virginia. He had killed six or seven woman by this point when he finds Caroline. He intends for her to be his next victim. He kidnaps her and plans on murdering her (not exactly sure what his method is but ya know- he kills people). However, Caroline isn't exactly the most normal victim. She does not plead or beg....she does something else.
She describes a murder of her own. She goes into detail about how she murdered Damon Salvatore for raping her. This intrigues Klaus because Caroline is not as innocent as she seems. So, Klaus does something he never had before...he lets his victim go.
He watches her, wondering if she would turn him in....but she doesn't. So, he starts writing to her, and this is how the romance begins. Klaus stops killing because his entire fascination is on Caroline. He romances her, becomes the PERFECT suitor. Her parents adore him and Caroline claims that she finally found a man who understands her.
They get married, have a child, live a happy life.
Then they move to Chicago. Caroline runs into Stefan, the man who knew about her rape and covered it up. Stefan thinks that Caroline killed Damon and threatens to tell her husband- so they do the most logical thing. They kill Stefan.
This triggers a series of murders in Chicago of men with jet black hair and blue eyes. The murders become their love letters, the story of their devotion to one another. Klaus is vengeful against the men, imagining them too Damon, the one who dared harm his wife. Overtime, the gaps between the killings grow longer; until they stop completely (their children got older and more clever- so they hid their activities away).
The the outside world, they were the average couple. Klaus had good job. Caroline was the perfect house wife. They had two kids. Everything seemed well with them. The eventually end up in New Orleans to be closer to Klaus's family when their kids go to college (1980s by this point). Things settle down. Only the occasional murder , for special occasions.
Until Caroline passes away in about 2015.
