anonymous blogs are such a fun thing we have on kotlc tumblr, but I feel we as a community have been doing it wrong, so here’s some dos and donts for sending an anonymous ask!

do:

“my conspiracy is that Kenric is actually Gethen and has been a bad guy this whole time”

don’t:

“I know Kenric is only in kotlc for plot purposes but he’s actually so evil and is such a bad character”

do:

“y’all fintan and gisela are actually made for each other PLEASE <3”

don’t:

“bronte x fintan is such a awful ship like they’re literally enemies!!”

do:

“I think umbtrix is such a cute ship name for umber and trix like their names fit together so well!”

don’t:

“I am so tired of people calling umber x trix ‘shadowwind” it doesn’t make sense and it sounds like a crappy warrior cats oc sorry not sorry”

do:

post positive opinions or theories, they of course can and probably will conflict with other peoples opinions but

dont:

make negative posts or shut down other people’s opinions and ships, or just be hateful to characters, because that’s just not fun

take what i'm about to say with a truckload of salt because i do not like sokeefe or keefe but

i think one of the reasons why so many sokeefe fans didn't like the sokeefe kiss is because it was too perfect. throughout the book there had been this emphasis on the imperfection of keefe and sophie's dynamic (keefe drawing sophie slouching, keefe sitting all sprawled across the grass with all his supplies everywhere, etc.). especially put next to the not-so-subtle comparison to fitz's idealized version of sophie (which in my opinion was executed atrociously, but that's clearly what shannon was going for), keefe and sophie's dynamic is supposed to be chill, laid-back, and messy.

so i think it was really disappointing for a lot of sokeefe fans when their kiss was . . . strangely idealistic? perfect, even? they go to the perfect romantic spot and have the perfect kiss. it's not messy, instead it flows so smoothly, like any other ya romantic scene since the beginning of ever. you could copy-paste just about any random ya couple from any fantasy series into this scene and it wouldn't feel weird. there's nothing specifically sokeefe about this scene, nothing that makes it feel unique to them as a couple. it just feels like shannon wrote a generic ya confession scene and then changed the names to "sophie" and "keefe". i think sokeefe fans wanted that unique sokeefe flavor, something to make it feel like it was a sokeefe confession scene instead of just some random ya confession scene. and i don't think shannon delivered.

ill admit the drama in the past was different and still stressful, but rn it feels ridiculous, seriously what happened to the lack of ship wars, and the goofy discorse we would get into. people are hating on characters and ship names, it genuinely is starting to like theres a fandom war going on.

i really think the confession blogs have something to with it, it all seemed to start when the confession blogs became active again. because while confession blogs can be fun it also gives people a platform to spew hate without consequence. most of the Keefe vs Fitz stuff is on the confession blogs, and the posts are people replying to the confessions on the blogs.

im NOT saying all this tenison is like three peoples fault, for goodness sakes no. its the people who are just being jerks anonymously in their ask boxes. those jerks just need to get their anonymous hate privileges taken away.

What do you think is the most common ability in kotlc?

I have a few guesses, so I'm gonna talk them through at you to see if one prevails over the other:

Flashers: incredibly light based species, perhaps its because a significant number of them work with it. We've also met a sizable number of them, and not because of anything special with Sophie (meaning, we see more telepaths than average because she is a telepath, but there's nothing special to draw flashers to her. and yet we still see a good few)

Vanishers: again, light based species. Different manifestation, but same principle. It could've also provided a survival advantage in days before "peace", leading to a larger number of them. But that could be said for many abilities. It's nothing flashy or significant as well, which could make it more common

Conjuring: again, not flashy. It's a more limited ability, which could mean its more widespread. Highly specialized things with lots of power are rare, and this is the opposite of that. We do have a fair scattered number of them as well

The one I want to be most common is flasher because I think it melds well with the worldbuilding. But otherwise I think any of these is a fine guess--and some of my reasoning could extend to other abilities as well.

If anyone else has thoughts or propositions, feel free to add; I may be overlooking something :)

Would it be bad to say that I don’t really care that much about the keeper graphic novel? Like don’t get me wrong it looks cool and it’s pretty neat that we’re getting a graphic novel but I think I’m at the point where I just want the story to continue ykwim. Like keeper will always have a special place in my heart but I’m not as obsessed with it as I used to be so at this point I just wanna know what happens and how this story is gonna end cause it’s been many years of waiting
