1315:
The Broughton family had always been poor, so when the famine struck at the beginning of 1315 the children barely took notice. Life continued peacefully despite the lack of food. Leif and Arthur were always running off together since there were less chores around the farm.
Being a survivor and a mother, Eydis was prone to stress and worry, the famine did nothing ease her fears. The heavy rains had destroyed most of their crops before they could be harvested, effecting both the family and their livestock. And to make matters worse, the nobles that technically owned their land were asking for a larger share of crops than usual. Eydis had already begun rationing the amount of food she made for her family and prayed they would have enough to last them until they could grow more.
Tumblr media
During the first part of 1315 Eydis gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Olive. Eydis and Wilkin were relieved that the birth went smoothly and were constantly checking on their little girl. Both parents understood the grief of losing a child and hoped to prevent any harm from coming to little Olive.
1315 came to a gentle close. The Broughton family had yet to experience the full effects of the famine.
Other births:
Revna Olsen gave birth to twins: Wymond and Marie Olsen

So why's BB!Skystar like That? I'm not looking for a justification or excuse mind you, and I understand he completely refuses to better himself, but not even someone like him is born evil.
I'll get to his origin and tell you exactly how he grew up, but lemmie be clear about something. I don't think people respond to what they experience in a proportionate, 1:1, "hard times go in, bad guy comes out" sort of way.
People aren't bread and yeast. We don't follow a recipe for "becoming a bad person." You don't add trauma and then from there they choose to be a bad person because of their pain or not. No one is born evil, and the other side of that coin is that EVERYONE has the capacity for it.
Extremely privileged, charmed, blessed people with wonderful home lives can also become awful people. Violent, demanding, murderous ones. The "why" is "choice."
That answer's not satisfying because we want it to be deep and interesting. Like it makes it "mean" something, or adds some kind of "logic" to it. But you won't get it.
EVIL is simple. It feels good to get what you want. It feels good to hurt the people who keep it from you. POWER is even simpler. It is the act of making others do what you want. It's as simple as childish entitlement, indifference, or spite. Gratification that outweighs guilt.
If you're looking for some grand tragedy, you won't find it here. Nothing he went through was particularly unique and there was no grand ideology at play. His dad vanished when he was young and so did Gray Wing's. The Tribe dealt with a famine and several people died, including members of Bright Storm's family.
The only thing special about his birth and upbringing, in particular, was that he was quite privileged from the start.
Clear Sky and Gray Wing in the Tribe
From their very birth, both kits were welcomed and celebrated. They were destined for greatness from the start. Their mother was Quiet Wing, a direct descendant of the Stoneteller, Half Moon, and the father was a respected leader and political figure, Tempest Sky.
(This was before the Tribe would eventually become three camps, "Wards," united by a river. Tempest might have been considered an early leader of such a Ward.)
The older kit, a perfect image of xeir mother, was said to be the inheritor of her legacy as a relative of their founder and holy speaker. Xey were named Gray Wing. The younger, who would surely become the natural leader his father was, got the name Clear Sky. In their language, Koof Yaawrl-- Not just a sky without clouds. A perfect, flawless sky.
The two of them grew up with great opportunities. Connections are everything to their culture, and they had their pick of any amount of interests they wanted a paw in. The hunters would happily bring them along if asked. The crafters had extra patience set aside just for them. A good deployment of a mew and baby eyes could get them some extra scraps at dinner. Everyone wanted to make their little mark on such special, talented kits.
Clear Sky was a little general type. He wanted to be a leader right away. He loved hunts, he loved being in charge of other kids, he loved the way people listened to him. He wasn't familiar with the word No and was almost always the top banana of a group of other children. Even if they were older.
(Gray Wing in contrast was more of the game-creator, the "old soul," the kid who got along better with adults than other kids. Less of a leader and more of the guru, good at networking and settling disputes between people.)
While they were still kids, Tempest Sky vanished.
He was missing for days, and was assumed dead. There's plenty of ways to vanish in the mountains, but no remains were found. The Stoneteller tried to contact his spirit over and over to confirm his death, and he never came. So it was most likely that he just... left. Or maybe was taken.
Either way, they didn't really get closure for it. It was an awful thing to happen to a little kid, and Clear Sky took it really hard. A while after that, their stepdad entered the equation. Stone Peak wasn't big or strong or special, he just made their mom happy.
Gray Wing LOVED this man. After some friction, him and Stone Peak became excellent friends. They had a deep sense of respect and camaraderie. Clear Sky hated this. It was like Tempest Sky was being replaced before his eyes.
It was years before Stone Peak and Quiet Rain had a litter, well into Clear Sky and Gray Wing's adulthoods. It burned Clear Sky a new one to think that she was moving on from his father, who could still be alive. Maybe it's part of why he was so willing to throw his half-brother out into the snow, that fateful winter.
When Jagged Peak and Fluttering Wing were about half a year old, there was a terrible drought. It wasn't "overpopulation." It was a bad season. NOTHING could have stopped it. Lots of cats died.
Fluttering Wing was one of them-- along with some of Bright Storm's immediate family, Fox Claw and Petal Claw's mother during a hunting accident, and many more.
At the height of this drought, the southern river's level was so low that it became a scorched, crackled path with only a wet scratch of mud running along the middle. This dry riverbed beckoned to be followed downwards, until the water could be found again. THIS is the "Sun Trail;" a path carved by the sun.
It was Gray Wing the Wise who interpreted this as an omen. Xey believed it was their ancestors showing them the way to safety. The rest is history.
But the bottom line is...
Skystar's upbringing wasn't a supreme tragedy. He faced adversity just like everyone else, but he'd NEVER bring up the privilege that he had when he was young as something unfair to be examined. Tempest being a respected leader whose connections gave Clear Sky lots of opportunities is only spoken about in terms of Clear Sky being a "born leader" or "coming from greatness."
All of his charisma, his achievements, his command over other cats, that's all something he's "worked for." All of the adversities are examples of how strong HE is, in contrast to other cats, even if they went through the same exact struggles.
Why is he the way he is? Why is he so controlling? Why is he violent? Because he will take what he wants, and no one can stop him. He likes power more than he cares about the consequences of treating people poorly, so he cries "unfair!" if you take his toys away.
Stand by him and the rewards are sweet and delicious. Deny him what he wants, and he will crush you. He chooses how he treats you based on how much he likes you, and at the rotten heart of his behavior, is the simple choice to be this way.

ok but hear me out. An immortal pred who has a fucked up sense of love, falling in love with mortals and not wanting to leave them behind when they eventually die. so the best course of action? Eating them and digesting them. The pred thinks this will keep them together forever, and is totally fine with it, despite the guilt of hurting their love. The pred will eventually digest them of course, and in the morning the pred will lovingly caress the new fat on their tummy, having their partner apart of him forever
It's RLLY angsty but also kind of hot idk...
-🍓🎭
yESSSSS I'M ENTIRELY ON BOARD FOR THIS thank u strawberry thespian
the pred is lonely, part and parcel with being immortal, but the world is filled to the brim with so many interesting people! they travel from city to city, spending just long enough to get to know each one like the back of their hand before moving on to the next one, and then coming back once it's been long enough for the city to grow and change and transform.
they LOVE people. no matter where they go, they immerse themself in the lives of others, fascinated to see the way mortals learn and grow and make mistakes and leave a legacy. they dance with them, they tell stories with them, they tumble into beds with them.
every so often, they meet a particularly interesting one-- a savant of the generation, a genius, or a true humanitarian, or someone with enough ambition to strike the gods down from their seats. the pred will become this person's lover, their confidant, their muse. and they'll reveal their immortal nature to the sweet, brilliant, fascinating little human.
and, almost unfailingly, the mortal who has won their favour will ask if it's possible for them to share their immortality.
the pred will often play coy, piquing their mortal's interest even more fervently.
well, there is one way. it's wonderful. you would become so much more. but it's also painful. it... changes you in more ways than you know. i would only share this with someone i truly trusted.
and the mortal is so eager to prove their love, to prove they're trustworthy, that they're worth bringing into the aeons.
i would love nothing more than for you to join me.
the pred helps plan their delectable little artist's "last day as a mortal." the best day of their life, the day in which they finish their magnum opus, and prepare to become part of something much greater.
it's almost time. i trust you. do you trust me?
and the mortal nods...
hours later, the pred's immaculate, ravenous belly is gurgling and squeezing playfully around its squirming prisoner, hard at work processing the new hefty meal.
the pred is amorously massaging their massive gut, trying to get their tasty lover to just relax, it's okay, let it happen. you wanted to be part of something greater, and I wanted you to be part of ME. and now we both get what we want! shh, shh, i know it's scary, but i'm right here, i'm all around you, and i'll keep you safe... soon, nothing will be able to touch you, no blades, no disease nor famine, not even time itself... i couldn't leave you behind to waste away, to fall to dust, you're too (uuurp) beautiful... and delicious... just stop squirming and let my belly take you apart~
of course, they planned this perfectly, they've had practice. no one will disturb them this evening, or the next day. they fall asleep still rubbing their great, bulging tummy, trying to soothe their softening meal.
the next morning, their gut is about halfway done redistributing their lover to their hips, chest, thighs, and waistline. they happily pinch and squeeze the new layer of soft, warm pudge on their body, delighted to see their lover taking so well to their new position in life. they spend the day in bed, celebrating their lover's "immortality".
then, in the evening, they sigh, squeeze into their traveling clothes, and set out. it's time to move on to the next city.

They briefly mentioned jokingly about the teens being the four horsemen of the apocalypse so here's sort of my idea of the line-up.
Scary I think is clearly Death. She was the strongest in the party for a while, she was the one Willy picked to hold the Doodler, she has a spell in her arsenal called Circle of Death, she prided herself for a long time on the darkness inside of her. I don't think more of an argument needs to be made.
Normal I think is pestilence. He is notoriously a stinky guy, for one. But also, throughout the season, he has developed a bit of a "everything bad that happens is my fault, everything I touch goes wrong" sort of mentality, which in my head, is a pestilence/disease thing, a bad thing, spreading as it moves.
Taylor, I think, is war. He is so into samurai and ninjas and all that stuff. But also, war isn't just battlefield fighting, not anymore, cold wars, all involved with sneaking and espionage and that's what Taylor was good at and, since becoming a rogue, has specialised in.
Which leaves Famine for Linc. I think this one maybe doesn't fit as well as the others but I'm going to make it work. Famine usually refers to a lack of food, but if you take it to mean a general lack, starving for something. I think, Linc is lacking a couple of different things at the moment. Self-confidence, drive, connection with his family, specifically Grant. You can tell this from the way he interacts with his parents, his friends, the world and their mission.
I also don't think they'd have horses, maybe they'd have themed shoes and outfits, a themed teeny the teen outfit, all that jazz. I think also maybe it's an inherited role. Like, Linc being Famine makes more sense if Grant was Famine first. Terry Jr giving it Scary because she's his only descendant of any kind, her only truly accepting it after his death. Sparrow and Lark sharing the responsibility, the legacy of Chosen One falling upon Hero, the legacy of Pestilence hence falls to Normal. Taylor has his legacy explained to him the first time he ever meets his dad. Maybe it's something the Kiddads picked up in their work at DADDIES.

Currently daydreaming pre-hike about Lena finding a coven near National City who does a summer festival/retreat type thing, and she goes with Kara coming along as emotional support. The days are about what you might expect, kinda hippy, trading markets, etc. But at night they all gather around a fire and the elder witch tells Lena that all newcomers must bring with them a story, a song, something. An offering of sorts, a gift to the group that has welcomed her.
Put on the spot, Lena almost freezes. Kara expects her to wave off the request with an apology and self-deprecating comment. But after a moment, Lena's features turn thoughtful.
"There is something..." she says softly, "a song my mother used to sing."
The elder nods, understanding the preciousness of such a thing. She knows how magic works, that Lena's own magic would have come from her mother's. This song could be a simple lullaby, or it could be something more.
With a heavy swallow, Lena tamps down her nerves, closes her eyes, and begins to sing.
I hear your voice on the wind
And I hear you call out my name
Listen my child you say to me
I am the voice of your history
Be not afraid come follow me
Answer my call and
I'll set you free...
Kara listens as Lena sings, her voice starting out shaking, clearly untrained, but honest in its intent. Lena gains confidence as she goes, and by the chorus her voice is strong and clear, ringing out across the night fire with building power.
I am the voice of the past
That will always be
Filled with my sorrow and
blood in my fields
I am the voice of the future
Bring me your peace
Bring me your peace and
My wounds they will heal...
Kara settles in with a smile, tearing her eyes from Lena to cast a glance around the rest of the group. They are utterly still, faces pleasant as they listen. The elder's gaze, however, holds something unreadable that Kara makes note of.
When Lena's song fades to a silence, the groups claps, their enjoyment plain. Lena blushes with a smile, tucking her hair behind her ear. After a moment, when the applause peters out, Lena looks to the elder, whose features have softened.
"Tell me, child," the woman says, "you were born in Ireland, yes?"
Lena stiffens slightly-- she hasn't mentioned that yet. She nods. "Yes. My mother sang that when we were out in the fields."
The elder woman nods. "That song," she says solemnly, kindly, "is the song of a very old, very powerful coven of the old world. One whose role was to protect the land, and honor it. As custodians of the nature around then, they were connected to the earth in way few are."
Kara can feel Lena tremble, hungry for any information that would share more of her mother with her.
"Were?" Lena asks.
"The old world covens grew thin through opression and famine. Few now can claim heritage with them." The elder holds Lena's gaze intently. "You are a rare find, Lena. But heavy is the burden of a legacy. Know that you friends here, should you need them."
Heads around the fire nod enthusiastically, a few hums of confirmation solidifying the bonds between them. Kara withholds a grin-- finally, it seems, Lena may have found a family worth keeping.
Beside her, Lena clears her throat, eyes shining in the firelight.
"Thank you."

10 and 19!!
10 - That's quite a tricky one to answer… Because I like a LOT of OCs from a lot of people!!! So I tried to list 6 of my favorites that came to mind first
Tumblr media
I really like all of these people's OCs, but let's talk a bit about each one in particular:
Blossom in Moonlight (wuu_yuuno): She is so cute and lovely and pretty. I also love her whole character arc and the relationships she has with other characters (some of them mine)
Melancholic Fascination (azr__7): SHE'S SO BEAUTIFUL AND SHE MAKES ME 😳😳😳. She also has a really cute relationship with one of my OCs, so <3 <3
Nine Quotes (cajushell): I just think her concept is really really cool! She is pretty too and I like her colors
Legacy of Famine (mewguca): SHE'S SO SILLY AND STUPID, I LOVE THIS KIND OF CHARACTER!!! I love the fortune - misfortune themes she has and the cat aesthetic, she's my beloved <3
Direct Unadorned Empathy (zenala-art): I love this OC since the first time i saw them, and later when I learned about their lore and concept I could say that I really love them. It's really cool and interesting
Paths Left Untaken (fauxbia): HI, I REALLY LIKE YOUR OC!!! Hm, I don't really interact so much with her like the others that I listed, BUT I LOVE HER CONCEPT AND LORE SO MUCHHH. And her design is absolutely pretty. I needed to put her into my fav OCs list
19 - I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS UDHFASDUIFDH

firstly: thank you @cloverlady and @charlottenanachi for helping me with coloring!! and @fauxbia for helping with the writing :D
This is ask #30, wowie!! I've made a couple (3) Activation Logs I'll be posting in the next few days!! There was a comic I was working on, too, but idk when that'll be done, sorry...
I don't have Activation logs for all of them on the Askblog because I feel the first three explore what I want to share right now well enough. Hopefully you guys like LOF, PU, and SLS
In the meantime, I've also updated ToyHouse bios slightly, mostly surrounding relationships.
Also, I plan to open a Discord Server focused on my OC AU very soon!! It'll be 16+, though, due to subject matter. That being said, here is another reminder to check the content warnings!! The more lorestuff I post, the more I'll be getting into sensitive and upsetting subject matter...
and once again, "architect" is just the in-universe term for "ancient."

M O R D L U S T ; the four horsemen of the apocalypse
❝"Come." And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from Earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.❞
aleksander fox as war ; insurrection and slaughter ; WAR rides wreathed in fiery red. there is division to be sewn, blood to be spilled, foes to be felled. he stands on the BRINK of a world abandoned by the gods. those with power were simply born into it, CLAWING his way into their favor cannot be for nothing.
❝"Come." I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.❞
isme de lède as conquest ; crowned in triumph ; CONQUEST leaves naught but destruction in its wake. the promise of a golden age requires a firm yet GENTLE hand, and eight centuries ago his kingdom brought pestilence to the realms of men. and where there is desolation, there is PEACE.
❝"Come." I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand.❞
voir vératre as famine ; mourning justice ; FAMINE is a warhammer in the face of a smallfolk's sickle. she has spent the whole of her WRETCHED life wanting under the reign of a church that detests her. the pieces fall, but the game remains the same. gluttony is a sin, but HUNGER is a prayer.
❝"Come." I looked, and behold, a pale horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hell followed with him. ❞
salem salicaire as death ; the fall of an empire ; DEATH is known by many names—sword, plague, beast, change. something must give if he is to regain his lost FAITH. but what is a man with no name, no legacy, and no grave? can you say he even lived, even EXISTED at all?
The Crown Prince of Cendrier has vanished without a trace. The dornenheit ravages the countryside while the King idles in his castle. Something lies dormant beneath the Grand Brinnaal Cathedral. The Kingdom of Falkenreik rots from core to flesh, Voir Vératre is certain it has to do with the anonymous letter she received calling her to slay the head of the Helemere Church. But when she receives the key to a greater mystery unraveling around her and a ghost from her past reemerges, she’s forced to confront a life she’d thought escaped.

Affirmative Action
The Supreme Court ruled against race-based affirmative action at Harvard and UNC. We saw this ruling coming a mile away, while there were Asians picketing outside as if Black Americans were the big bad wolves of race 🐺 for all of this. No one has benefited from affirmative action more than white women simply because of the word "minority." Other groups followed thereafter under that action.
Affirmative action was for everyone except for white men, many who were/are already legacy students, children of university donors, or the descendants of the Old Stock aka the Mayflower people. Many of your eltie. (No one was white in this country but those colonizers and their descendants. Anyone from European countries immigrating during US slavery (like the Irish - Potato Famine era) or after US slavery had to work their way to becoming the fake racial status called white. (Ya know, contractural indentured servitude, assimilation and shit.)
When affirmative action was first enacted, it was originally and only intended for the descendants of US Freedmen, the formerly US chattel enslaved people who just happened to be "Black" because the US government declared them us such by race. But as usual, the trick bag language to bar the descendants of this land from an even playing field was instituted. The makeup of this country then was not what it is today since Black Americans fought for our civil rights, as well as the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, the right for others who were barred by white Americans if you did not descend from their choices of European countries that did not include the likes of Italy. So your ass would not be here if it wasn't for Black Americans.
The US racial classification after the 1960s was determined by how one self identifies, not by what the US government told you you were. You can choose whatever race you want to be now, which is why race is and always was dumb. It's not permanent nor real like ethnicity. Black Americans aren't Black because of a racial construct. We're Black ethnically due to ethnogenisis, our culture and our history on this land that is our homeland.
Striking down affirmative action doesn't harm us. It does us a big ass favor that became a free for all and used us as a scapegoat for baseless arguments.
Who are people gonna blame now when they still don't get in? What will the likes of Vivek Ramaswamy whine about now? The big bad wolf of what they call “woke culture?” Us again, huh. Rinse and repeat. Anyway...

Okay, time for a shower thought timeline!
Tumblr media
THE SMP TIMELINES
Titans, beings composed of stone and imbued with magic perish, their remains forming the land masses where the SMPs take place.
Gods arise from the primordial magic blood that pooled when the Titans died, including Aeor and Exor, when the blood came into contact with snow and ice and a mysterious fungi respectively, as well as the primordial ocean being after coming into contact with the vast oceans.
The Gods either died out, went into a deep slumber, was worshipped greatly, or fought each other and created champions, with the exception of the ancient sea dweller which laid eggs and went out to go grab some milk or whatever.
X Life occurs, along with a surge in Jeremyism worship, a god of insanity but after the people and players died out, they fell into obscurity, with only a few worshippers here and there and not much scripture to go off of.
The Gnomes of Gnomeland were almost completely wiped out by a champion of Exor with the exception of a farmer’s daughter.
A gathering of promising individuals took place, and Empires takes place, with the greatest kingdoms rising from the earth.
The Empires fell after a rapture taking place after trying to join two opposing forces, destroying everything and permanently changing the landscape of the land.
Sometime after, more magical beings began to proliferate after new pools of Titan blood was revealed after the rapture cracking the land open. Afterlife SMP begins.
These magical beings split off eventually after an incident with 15 magical beings. Details unknown, but led a certain magic being to ascend to the heavens to bring back a friend.
In certain regions of the land, cults about the corruption the champion of Exor began sick games with a new set of young adults being sacrificed for both the entertainment and blood for their god within a zone impossible to escape. The Life Series begins.
Meanwhile, a meeting is held to see whether or not they should start new Empires again, as the greatness of those past kingdoms still echoes.
TIMELINE SPLIT: EMPIRES ARE ACCEPTED
The meeting is agreed on for promising individuals to lead a new generation of kings and empires.
Promising individuals from different backgrounds such as the last survivor of a Mesa town famine, a great pirate from a far off island, and a strong willed swordsman from a corrupt kingdom far off.
Empires begin.
TIMELINE SPLIT: EMPIRES ARE DECLINED
No one wants a repeat of the rapture, so the proposal is declined.
Magic research in Titan’s blood and the legacy of the magical beings soars, leading to a council with a grand witch at the centre.
This tradition lasts for a while with a contest for choosing the next supreme witch begins.
Any supreme witch or those affiliated gets the ability to peer into other timelines but not interfere with them.
Witchcraft begins

If Mao was communist, why are the stars on the flag of the PRC?
I'm going to assume you're referring to what the stars on the flag represent (four social classes under the leadership of the Communist Party) and you're not just saying "why does the flag have stars".
While Mao's New Democracy has been criticized as revisionist class collaboration, Mao himself never intended for such collaboration to last as long as it has. You have to keep in mind that during the revolution, China was fighting for independence against multiple imperial and colonial powers that sought to subjugate it. It wasn't unreasonable for Mao to want to appeal to the nationalists in this context, and he still stressed the importance of democratic centralism and Party leadership. He wasn't simply handing the reins over to the national bourgeoisie, but instead saying "you can either make yourself an enemy of the Communists or join the fight on our side", and as the tides turned in the favor of the Communists, the latter became an easy choice.
After the end of World War II and the Civil War, Mao began the transition away from New Democracy and towards a more traditional socialism, but there were many hurdles to overcome and events did not always play out in Mao's favor. From the famine to the Sino-Soviet Split to the Cultural Revolution, Mao and his left-wing followers gradually grew out of favor within China, leading to the rise of Deng Xiaoping and the market reforms that would entrench the class collaborationist aspects of New Democracy within the PRC. Even so, it is clear that Deng's reforms were conservative enough to avoid a full-blown descent into neoliberalism as was seen in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc. Regardless of your opinion of modern China, the interests of the working class are still much better represented under Chinese democracy than under bourgeois democracy, and despite Deng's revisionism, the spirit of communism still thrives in China and the Chinese working class are poised to inherit its legacy.
I linked this video for another anon asking about Chinese socialism, and my post here is basically a summary of what this video explores. It goes into a lot more detail than I did, and I recommend watching it to learn more.
