Small but significant character moments that I actually really adore are from both the times we see the boys as tots. There is a reoccurrence that happens in both of them that I find so incredibly interesting.

For the turtle tot short, Splinter leaves the boys with weapons. In the short, Raph is the one who suggests they do “what Lou Jitsu would do” and Leo is the one who takes point when Splinter comes back to reprimand them. Leo, in taking point, is the one to defend them and get Splinter off their tails.

And then, in the flashback regarding the Kuroi Yōroi helmet, Raph is the one who grabs and throws “Skully” as a way to replace their missing ball which breaks it into pieces, but Leo is the one who speaks for the group and rushes into action to fix the teapot.

I love this for multiple reasons, but the biggest are how it shows that Raph has always been inclined toward the bold and fun and making the plans to include his brothers in what he loves and believes they’d love, whereas Leo has always been inclined to be the “Face” of the group and shoulder the attention even if it’s potentially negative all while coming up with on the spot attempts to fix the situation.

My scalding hot take about the finale is that there is no way to ever make Bug Noire a valid writing choice because it goes against Marinette's arc of learning to stop taking all the burdens onto herself and learning to rely on others and their support, and also against Adrien's arc of learning to assert himself and his worth and independence after a lifetime of having others make decisions for him and dictating his actions. No prompts today Darling ones, I'm sorry. Bug, my lovely little idiot, was being his usual annoying self this morning and completely ignoring Bunnies warning growls. I tried putting him in timeout several times but as soon as I let him out he would just go straight back to it.

Understandably, Bunny ended up getting fed up and bit him hard enough that she nearly took a chunk out of him. He's currently sitting in his carrier feeling sorry for himself, with a sock over his head to stop him from trying to lick the wound or chew on the door. Since it's pretty severe, I'm headed straight to the vet this morning, and don't have the time to really do anything else.

THE PLANKTONIC DENIZENS OF SIDE ORDER

As a marine biology hobbyist I ADORE the fact that all the spire denizens are planktons. Please enjoy some funky fellows:

crab zoea

young medusa-stage jellyfish (same life stage as the familiar jellies in Inkopolis and Splatsville, presumably fresh off the ephyra stage of growth)

amphipod or lobster larva

ostracod

a young pteropod, most likely (sea angels are part of this group!)

I think this weird-horse-looking one is supposed to be an oceanic water flea? I'm the most stumped on this dude

And of course our lucifer shrimp Cipher!

Now I can't find any photos online, but throughout various levels of Side Order I also noticed jellyfish ephyra and polyps, and nematodes or perhaps larval flatworms? Even baby cephalopods are considered plankton! (iykyk)

Plankton are often the most basic trophic level in marine environments, providing stability and order to the ecosystem; if there's an imbalance in their population, that causes a butterfly effect among many other types of sealife. They're the perfect choice for Marina's Memverse.
