okay my biggest complaint about season 3 is how they did grimaud dirty. the guy is legitimately sick as fuck and as a character he ties in so well with the themes of change and improvement which they really leant into this season with the addition of sylvie and humanising prisoners and thieves and stuff. he's the most sympathetic of all three Big Bads, so i think the writers tried to really lean into him being irredeemable so they didn't have to deal with the complexity of killing him. the cardinal and rochefort both had moments where the audience sympathised with them, but there wasn't really that for grimaud? we got 3x07 but he wasn't actually there for us to sympathise with, he was just being spoken about. he was never really there as a character, as a human beng whose eyes we could look into, when his Tragic Backstory was being unveiled. the audience should have had their hearts wrenched out and felt strangely sick and conflicted when he was killed, because the guy is a product of the fucked up world that the good guys want to change. his demise could have been a dark cloud hanging over the otherwise happy ending; a sign that all is most definitely not well despite things moving in the right direction. he deserved so much better.

Summary:
Drowning is a horrible thing, though in these waters it’s a toss up between whether the water or the cold will kill you first, and while I was revived there is a feeling that has followed me ever since that I have been unable to shake. Nothing I can trully name, but something has changed…
