Queen Marie Leczinska's Toilette in Versailles
The Queen had the habit of waking up early, after leaving bed she used to take a simple dress and attend an early morning mass, she would then return in her apartments alone and play music or read. At half past twelve an entire crowd would enter into her apartments, it was time for her public toilette! A table with a mirror would be brought and her silver gilded service would be placed on it. The toilette ceremony had NOTHING to do with what we associate modern day toilets, it was in fact the act of being washed up(the hands and face mostly) and then getting ready for the day. Lady's in waiting would wash the Queen's hands and face, apply her makeup, do her hair and put on her dress by order of seniority. All that in front of an assembly of women from the court. During the process the Queen would say a few words and a unique compliments to each lady in waiting. She would then go a second time to a mass-a royal one this time- accompanied by her household, but, unlike the first mass of the day, she would appear in full court attire sitting at the royal Balcony next to her husband the King.
The original silver gilded toilet Service of Queen Marie Leczinska has disappeared therefore when recreating it I decided to get my inspiration from certain containers that were part of a silver gilded coffee set that did belong to her, of course in did alter them to better fit with their toilet service purpose.

Did Sophie meet Marie Leszczyńska and her dad before she left fontevraud???
I believe so! We know that she had at least some contact with her younger daughters, at least in mass, as we know she instructed Adelaide to run to Louis XV and beg to stay, so most likely she had known her daughters before they left.
However, her mother was forbidden from visiting them when they lived in Fontevraud, so she sent letters and gifts to her daughters. Louis XV could visit he just didn't.

Here is the post about Charles-André van Loo. A shorter version.
Tumblr media
His painting - Perseus and Andromeda
Carle or Charles-André van Loo ( 15 February 1705 – 15 July 1765) was the most famous member of the successful dynasty of painters of Dutch origin. His oeuvre includes every category: religion, history painting, mythology, portraiture, allegory, and genre scenes.
He was born in Nice, then part of the Duchy of Savoy. Van Loo followed his brother Jean-Baptiste (the guy from my previous post) to Turin, and then to Rome in 1712, where he studied under Benedetto Luti and the sculptor Pierre Le Gros. After leaving Italy in 1723, he worked in Paris, studied at the Académie Royale, where he gained first prize for drawing in 1723, and received the first prize for historical painting in 1727—as did his future rival François Boucher. In 1724 he won the Prix de Rome (a French scholarship for arts students, that was established in 1663 during the reign of Louis XIV of France. Winners were allowed them to stay in Rome for three to five years at the expense of the state). After again visiting Turin in 1727, he was employed by king Victor Amadeus II of Sardinia. In 1734 he settled in Paris, and in 1735 became a member of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture and rose rapidly in the hierarchy of the academy. Madame de Pompadour and the French court were taking the artist under their patronage. He was decorated with the Order of Saint Michael and named First Painter to king Louis XV of France in 1762.He was a most successful court painter but his portraits as well as history paintings also enjoyed an enormous success throughout all Europe. He died in Paris on 15 July 1765.

Here Queen Marie Leczinska, wife of King Louis XV, pays homage to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Heart of Mary and to the Eucharist. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are held aloft by the figure of Faith.  Hope holds the Eucharist, and Charity stands beside her.

2 portrait paintings of Marie Leszczynska celebrating the birth of the Dauphin, Louis Ferdinand.
The second portrait is of Marie holding the Dauphin, surrounded by her daughters Elisabeth, Henriette and Marie Louise.
Elisabeth and Henriette would have been about 2, Marie Louise would've been about 1.
Marie Louise would die only 3 years later of a cold.

“Marie Leszczynska was the most beautiful Queen of France in my opinion. In her prime years she had such a specifically pretty face and so docile in her portraits. She also sounds really laid back.” - Submitted by Anonymous

Why did Louis xv treat Marie Leszczyńska so coldly all the time???
Tbh, I think he was very much someone who was flighty and didn't really want to sit still for any amount of time. Plus, based on his choices of his favorite mistresses, I think she may have been just really too shy for him, plus the fact that after Louise's birth she just didn't want anything to do with him sexually (mostly health based)

Hello~! May I ask several questions for the WIP i'm working on?
If a lady wanted to marry the king/emperor, what rank should she or her parents has to make this true?
Is it possible for a dame to gain higher rank and marry their ruler or is that a big no-no?
Were there instances where the empress chose not to give birth to a child and encourage her husband to take several concubines instead? Will that kind of thing work?
Thank you in advance! I hope you're having a wonderful day!
As long as she's noble it's acceptable. If she was a higher ranking noble such as a daughter of a Duke, it would be easier for the other nobles to stomach but if she's say, daughter of a Lord, its perfectly acceptable too.
A Dame is effectively a woman, usually common who is given a knighthood. She could marry the King it he would have a better chance if he granted her a more permanent title.
Many Queens especially in later years when childbirth would be dangerous for them encouraged their husbands to have mistresses. Marie Leczinska, wife of Louis XV did so.

Maria Karolina Zofia Felicja Leszczyńska (23 June 1703 – 24 June 1768), also known as Marie Leczinska , was a Polish princess and Queen Consort of France from 1725 until 1768 by marriage to Louis XV. The daughter of King Stanislaus I of Poland and Catherine Opalińska, her 42-year service was the longest of any queen in French history. A devout Roman Catholic throughout her life, Marie was popular among the French people for her generosity and introduced many Polish customs to the royal court at Versailles. She was the grandmother of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X of France.

How many cats do u have and what are their names ;-;
In total? 31! My parents have been rescuing animals since I was a little kid and they made our family house into an animal shelter! The plan is to rescue them and adopt them out (and it’s what we usually do) but these have stayed either because they had health and/or behavioral issues or because... we couldn’t find someone willing to adopt them while they were young and now they’re too attached to us to leave, heh.
The ones under my care are: Quiche, Soufflé, Louis, Vuitton, Napoleon, Bijou, Cookie, Cake, Petróleo, Cobalto, Sirena, Safira, Royal, Turquesa, Celeste, Pretzel, Chiquinha, Kinder, Sweetie and Domino. These all sleep in my room but during the day they have an outdoors catio all for themselves!
The ones who live in other places of the house (mostly under my mom’s care) are: Frodo, Saga, Susuwatari (Susu for short) Kanon, Poupée, Nemo, Chaves, Marie Leczinska (AKA Kika), Mimolette, Lollipop and Francine.
