Cats! But make it Chinese Opera! When I posted the initial exploration art of Tugger I had mainly referenced Peking Opera, but since then I think the style has grown to be a combination of multiple genres of opera haha

Since they are both sons of Old Deuteronomy, I wanted them to have elaborate costumes and roles that will stand out amongst the others! Tugger is playing the 武小生 (Wu Xiao Sheng) role and Munkustrap is playing the 长靠武生 (Chang Kao Wu Sheng) role. 武生 are martial characters and warriors, Munkustrap’s specific role is a high ranking warrior defined by using a polearm while Tugger plays a younger warrior. Although my explanation is short there are actually a lot more details regarding the difference in singing tone, costumes, and personality between each role! I’ve only started researching about this when i started this project so unfortunately I am still not very knowledgeable about Chinese Opera ><; but hopefully I get to learn more as I continue exploring with this project 🥰

Was on a movie night binge last night, and one of the movies we tapped into was Happily N'ever After. This is Munk, and he is my friend now.

Go check out the movie, cause it's actually PRETTY GOOD! Made by the people who made Shrek. Don't watch the sequel though, cause that thing is a mess unless you wanna laugh at how poor it is lol.

Man, I remember drawing these two everyday when I was younger. Happily N’ever After was definitely one of my more niche hyperfixations, but I still just love Munk and Mambo’s character designs: strong silhouettes, complementary shapes, and nice palettes to boot.

And it’s always fun to have two opposite, bickering characters who do actually care for each other.

Mistoffelees fell and he fell hard. He just had to fall for the same girl that Munkustrap did. Out of all the queens he just had to fall in love with Victoria. But how could he not? She is kind, beautiful, and curious about the world. Victoria is full of life and joy despite all that she has been through at a young age, how can Mistoffelees not love that about her?

As much as he loved her he will pick Munkustrap’s happiness every time. He was the first cat to welcome Mistoffelees to the Jellicle tribe, he protected him and always stood up for Misto, and he always made time for him no matter what. He did all that despite knowing that his father was Macavity and that meant the world to Mistoffelees, he never had any one to care for him before after is mother passed. Macavity abused him both emotionally and physically, Misto never really knew what family truly was until Munkustrap. So when he found out Munk loved Victoria he stood aside and left the happy couple alone and suffer in silence.

Mistoffelees was still their friend and got a front row seat as they mated and had their first born, Eliza. Munkustrap and Victoria asked him to be her god father and he nearly cried right then and there. Misto forced a smile and accepted the offer.She was the perfect mixture of both her parents. It was adorable watching her fallow around her father and imitating his movements. It was a shock when he found out that Eliza had telekinesis powers but helped her learn to control them.

It was hard to fake a smile when he was dying inside and wanting to cry every time there was a reminder that Victoria was in love with his best friend. But he truly loved her and wanted her to be happy more than anything, even if it wasn’t with him.
