With the nose asks I'm surprised no ones brought up nose bleeds. I get them pretty often so I can imagine the first time any grunt sees the Player just randomly throw their head back as they ask for a napkin Probably doesn't matter how severe it is they're gonna freak out. Doc (and or Jeb and Hof depending on where Player is) completely losing it on the inside as it seems to be bleeding from the inside, and then mid way through mentally preparing himself for surgery or something Player's like "yeah it happens when the airs dry" or "Oh I broke my nose one time and now it just happens occasionally."

I love it - yet another distinctly human phenomenon to throw the grunts into absolute pandemonium lmao.

Any injury that the Player gets becomes the top concern of whoever they're with, and random, causeless ones are the most panic-inducing of them. At least if you trip or get hit by a spray of debris, your grunts can properly assess the situation and use their background knowledge to help you. But if you get a nosebleed, it essentially concerns a body part of yours that they know very little about sustaining a wound that has zero obvious cause to exist.

It's not like you got hit there or anything, which then leads your grunts to fear that you've got internal bleeding or perhaps a bad head injury that's only making itself known now. You know, otherwise lethal things.

Even the most intelligent of grunts (i.e. Christoff and Hofnarr, perhaps even 2BDamned) are stumped on what to do, which of course just pushes them further into a panicked spiral. They're rushing to get medical supplies for you, pushing you to tell them all about your wound while subtly nudging you to lie down on whatever flat surface is closest so they can examine you, and even preparing mentally for surgery on the most important person in their life. You're sitting there with a tissue to your nose and a mostly nonchalant expression while they're trying to come to terms with taking your life in their hands to do urgent brain surgery.

The funny thing is that they're so worried it causes you to be more concerned over them than your own nosebleed. You don't want them to get a heart attack, so you gently try to reassure them that you're okay while trying to stop your blood from dirtying your shirt too badly.

Since we're on the topic of them, I also think that these three grunts in particular are probably the easiest to calm down (at least outwardly) with your explanation of what a common nosebleed is. Their panic comes from it being you who's bleeding combined with their lack of knowledge over what's happening to you. And also what they should do to help treat you, which is actually nothing because you have it handled - but you know they're not going to be content with that, so you may as well assign them to be your "nurses" during this whole mishap. If not only for their peace of mind.

As for the other grunts, their distress is far worse by comparison, because 9/10 times they don't even have any background with medical things at all - nor have most of them had in-depth discussions about your anatomy like Doc. And given how much blood can pour out of your nose when it happens, you're going to have to try a bit harder than you'd like to convince them that no, you're not dying, this is just sort of normal for you. (Cue them freaking out again because wtf, bleeding like this is a usual thing for you? Why??)

Even after your nosebleed passes, your grunts are going to be far more cautious and protective around you than they usually are (which is saying something). They wouldn't want to risk you being hurt again after such a recent injury, especially after losing all of that blood.

hiii ik you love the hunger games (i do too) but I have a couple questions about the books (one in specific) is the ballad of songbirds and snakes part of hunger games? I haven't read it and idek if it is a part of the series. Also is it like worth reading/watching (I love the hunger games and any books like that so im wondering if it's worth buying bc if it's anything like the hunger games/a part of the series than that's instantly a green light for me to like go and buy it) also feel free to rant about everlark or just the hunger games in general bc rant posts about them are like my FAVOURITE things to read especially yours lmao

yess, the ballad of songbirds and snakes is part of the hunger games!! it's a prequel about young president snow and the 10th hunger games and how everything about the games was changed there. i'm always kinda nervous talking about this book because i'm still currently reading it BUT i can safely say that if you (a) loved the hunger games (b) want to know more about how the games came to be and why and how the people there could just agree with it (c) is curious about how the people in the capitol were before their glory decades that was shown in the original trilogy (d) or is interested to see the other side's perspective about the first war 60 or so years before THEN.

i would definitely definitely definitely recommend it to you.

because HONESTLY suzanne is such a genius. this story is told from snow's point of view right. someone who was very much so ambitious, and bitter, and power hungry, and snobby, etc etc. we already knew how terrible he is as a person from the original trilogy, so i mean, we expected no less. but the thing is, in this story, he was also an 18 year old boy, still technically a teenager, and was still traumatized and healing from the war that had destroyed him (the loss of his parents, the sound of the bombs, poverty, lack of good food, others). you also got to see the human side of him that we never did in the original series.

and what's so interesting is that we get to see how murky? everything was in his mind. we saw how his mind worked in such such details (from the pathological people pleaser of it all, to how he saw others and his brutally honest criticization of them, to his disgusting feeling of entitlement to lucy gray, and to other worse things i can't remember or haven't gotten to).

like one minute i feel bad for him, and then another he was resenting and mocking sejanus and his mom in his head simply because they were from the districts and snow thought the district people are barbaric slums and was in a fair comparison with animals. one minute i thought he was effortlessly hilarious, and then the other i thought he was just sick in the head.

another thing!!! is that this book also shows how, earlier in the games, the capitol used their very own children too to achieve their political goals.

they used district children to be the ones who did the killing and got killed, to remind the districts of how much power the capitol held against them and to keep the war fresh in their minds. so they can avoid from becoming the prey.

but, these people (and i'm mostly talking about the gamemaker at this time, dr. gaul) also used their very own brightest students in the capitol, who were still children when the war first happened and most never liked thinking about it (of course with a few exceptions), who just wanted everything to stop, to help them succeed the 10th game and make people watch, get people to forget what the real problem is (pg 202 for a quote reference on how one of the mentors felt used, there's def more from what i can remember). how the casualties in all of these hunger games affairs are the children. how children were always the ones exploited by the adults who made the mess in the first place when it comes to this.

AND ALSO I JUST THINK that what's so great about this is that this isn't some romanticizing the villain kinda thing. we saw his human side, we saw his sufferings, but we also saw how his decisions lead more to the bad side rather than the good, we saw how he became this terrible person in the end and that just made us understand him more, not justify his actions.

i think it's such a thought provoking book, especially if you loved and knew the context of the first three books. like the juxtaposition of it yes, but also the similarities!! so many similarities. and so many aspects reflected the real life world too, just like the hunger games series did.

like there's just SO many more things about this book, so many to talk about. sometimes i can feel my mind going on 20000 miles per hour when i'm reading it.

ALSO, we got to meet tigris here and oh my god <333 i love her so much, she had such a sweet soul. and we also got to meet sejanus, whom i personally love and care about a lot. and they're just so!

(SO SORRY i ended up ranting so much about this book 😭)

but yeah. i definitely would recommend it, if you thought there could be any chance at all you would like it or interested in it. BUT, a warning though, i do think it's a bit on the slower pace. and you might get bored sometimes. it's worth it though in my opinion, and i'd recommend giving it a try!

i can't take people who ship gale and katniss seriously to be honest. because, i mean, i remember when i was deep in my hp phase like a few years ago, i once saw an entire article talking about peeta and gale and they were making an argument about how one is better than the other (i can't remember which one though) so the first thing that came to mind was, naturally, "oh. this series is about some sort of dystopian love triangle, okay." because i truly knew nothing about it. BUT HOW WRONG I WAS.

and then a few years later, this year in june/july i finally read it and i was like??? "what love triangle, gale was barely there, you all got to be joking 😭😭" and i just never saw it as one? which is a good thing because i tend to dislike love triangles but seriously. it was so obvious from the very first book who was katniss going to end up with. so so obvious. katniss and peeta had the greatest love story of all time, and katniss and gale had a falling out.

also, in mj, they literally couldn't stop arguing. "i'm not trying to start a fight" but that's all they were doing. understandable, given the situation in district 13 and the war and the losses, emotions were running high yes, but truly it was just plain to see. both katniss and gale are stubborn, they couldn't balance each other out like katniss and peeta did.

one thing to just sums everything up :

"that what i need to survive is not gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. i have plenty of that myself. what i need is the dandelion in the spring" like HOW CAN YOU ARGUE WITH THAT. she said it herself folks, she said it herself. how could there still be discourse about it, i'm sorry.

Merula hot take!!

I think merula has the most replayability if that makes any sense? like, you could have so many different kinds of relationships between merula and mc. much more so than anyone else. everyone else in the game is either supposed to be likable and supposed to be your friend—or they aren’t. merula isn’t one or the other so it leaves more room to have more dimension and variability with mc’s relationship with her, be it platonic or romantic.

she’s never been one of my personal favorites but i think my liking of her has grown over the years that the game has been out.

she’s kinda hard to write for me :/ there’s just this specific mix of abrasive and desperate for real connections within her personality that i really feel i don’t always do justice.

i think that if you were to look at the game through purely narrative lenses, a romance between the mc and merula is not only most obvious, but it has the most effect on the plot and provides the most to the story.

i know everyone is going around sharing their opinions on the way merula has been written lately so i’m gonna go ahead and say that i don’t like the storyline with her aunt being in R. i certainly think it’s interesting and all but i really want my mc to be friends with merula when everything is said and done and at this point i’m not sure if she’d forgive her so it’s really screwing things up for me narratively speaking

Hi coming in with another silly idea Imagine that the Player is in early Nevada, and around the time Nexus is supposed to fall they fall into a type of coma. Jeb goes through with his plan (painfully without the player by his side), Hofnarr turns into Tricky with his last thoughts begging for the Player to come back. Phobos' fight being much more easy due to the fact he thinks his god abandoned him. Then the Player comes back like "hey sorry about that" and Jeb starts wailing while Tricky goes YIPPEE and runs around them like an excited dog.

Why is everything you draw so cute omg 😭, everyone is so adorable here. It's honestly a little weird to see the Employers look so huggable, I love it.

To actually get into the scenario though, my thoughts on this are far too long to make it into a normal ask response, so you're getting some sort of unofficial hcs instead lol. Enjoy!

<The Player Falls into a Coma before the Fall> ft. Jebus, Hofnarr/Tricky, the Employers & Phobos

There was no warning for your sudden coma whatsoever. At most, you felt a tad more exhausted than usual at the end of the day, but this can be attributed to many different things, so of course you wouldn't worry about it. Neither would anyone else either, for that matter.

You had absolutely no idea that when you slowly fell asleep that night, you wouldn't be waking up again for a very long time.

It certainly wouldn’t take long for those you know to find out about your condition either. For one, Hofnarr and Jeb would want to recap their plan with you before going through with it, so naturally they stopped by for that. However, they find you unconscious and completely unresponsive to their every attempt to wake you. To make matters worse, there isn't a sign that you'd been awake at all in the past few days; the buildup of dust on your furniture and the letters in your mailbox shows as much.

Despite their worry, they’d eventually have to leave your side, if only to get more medical supplies and other things to help you. This opens up a window for the others in your life to finally take action, those being the Employers.

The shadowy figures had been keeping tabs on you all the time, so when you just didn't wake up, they would probably be the first to know - even if their actions came second to the Nexus Scientist's.

(You didn’t send the Deliberator a “good morning” text and he started panicking. What could possibly be so bad that you didn't speak to him? A cursory call to the worried AAHW agents the Auditor had sent to tail you was proof enough that you'd deviated from your usual schedule, and you weren't the type to ever be late.)

They were quick to take you from your home and to a more secret place, so that they could keep close observation over you.

Honestly, despite how much the Employers might brag about knowing you better than anyone else (a privilege they gained from being the first to realize your existence), they truly know little about your anatomy. However, they can tell that sleeping for full days isn't normal at all, judging by your previous behavior.

They're also far too stubborn to ask any other mortals for help as well, so they simply resigned to try to help you themselves while keeping you safe with them. They couldn't do much else, so hopefully you'd understand that once you awoke in a strange place.

Nevada rots without your guidance and the grunts you were close to were left reeling by this (unintentional) abandonment you committed.

Phobos loses much of his drive due to his own emotional frailty as he grappled with his uncharacteristic self-doubt and questioning. As it happens, this also makes him more zealous as well. In his last moments, he has a second wind, believing that if he just fights hard enough, you might decide to come back and help him in his battle against Christoff. (But you don't. You couldn't.)

Jebus' feelings are surprisingly parallel to the Director's in terms of worship and near zealotry. Except, he believes it might be his fault that you left, which only increases the fervor he has to complete his plans. It will be painful without you there, but this agony is his repentance for the sins which he has wronged you with. It is only through this that he believes you might show your presence once more, even if it’s not now.

Unfortunately, Hofnarr's transformation into Tricky was just as painful as it would be otherwise, and the pain of abandonment just makes it worse. Funny, how the pictures taken of you with him and Christoff were miraculously unscathed within Hofnarr's lab even after Tricky came to be. The zombified clown must have found some value in them, even if he couldn’t remember the complete reason why he felt so warm when he looked at them.

Of course, you did actually awaken eventually. You had no idea how much time had passed when you woke up, so seeing the Employers look so uncharacteristically worried when you woke up was really odd. You honestly think they’d be weepy if they had the ability to cry.

You really didn’t know how to react to the news that you’d essentially been in a coma for thirty years. Your first course of action is to find Jeb and Tricky to find out what actually happened since you feared your early appearance might’ve had an impact on the timeline regarding Nevada’s fall. This leads to very different reactions.

Jeb isn't one to typically show much vulnerability, but seeing you again completely shatters those walls he's kept up for so long. At first, he thinks you're just a hallucination; the culmination of all the longing he has for you finally taking its toll on his broken mind as almost a cruel joke. 

The first words he speaks to you after thirty years is a short, "You're not real", said as more of an insistence to himself than anything. But when he comes closer and you don’t disappear, and he reaches out a trembling hand to rest lightly on your shoulder, and you stay, he just breaks. The warmth of your form washes over him like it used to, and suddenly he feels an uncomfortable tightness well up in his throat as tears gather in his eyes.

You reach up to hold his taller form closer to you, sinking to the ground with him as he buries his face into your neck and sobs. His hold on you is soft, and his hands are still shaky; he's holding you like he's scared of shattering you, and he only gets weaker when you whisper soothing words and apologies to him.

Compared to Jebus, your meeting with Tricky was a lot more upbeat. It’s probably because he was spared much of the reflection and sorrow that Jeb went through due to his rather unstable mental state, but that didn’t stop him from somehow recognizing you. It’s almost like a switch flipped in his mind, and he went from violently slamming his sign into some poor grunt's face to freezing at the sight of your face.

He then tosses the sign away and almost launches himself at you to envelop you in a tight bear hug, screaming excitedly while you grin back rather tiredly. (You hope your eardrums will be okay after this.) But in the next second, he's whirling away from you, flailing his hands as he continues to talk.

It’s like being greeted by your dog after being away for months; he never stops moving or asking hurried questions about where you’ve been, intermittent with little words about how much he’s missed you.

Both Jeb and Tricky are very clingy after this. Even if they don't get along now, they're not willing to let you leave their sides after this, especially not when you go to sleep. (What if you fall into a coma again? Someone has to be there to take care of you.)

Deep down, they also have a striking suspicion that someone was behind your coma. They didn't know who exactly, but there was no other explanation to them than this. How else would you, Nevada's most powerful being, fall into such a state?

(In the near future, when you come across Hank and the others, let's just say that your scientists won't be deterred from leaving your side quite so easily. You'd been gone for thirty years, so you should only expect their companionship to remain more permanent for the coming years.)
