Here we go! I have some smaller books to share as well, but I've been absolutely VIBRATING with excitement to share a BIG one, and I'm going to indulge myself and post that today, then figure out words for the rest. Because I bound a new cnovel. Check it out, guys, I bound jwqs/clear and muddy loss of love :D

Let me indulge myself and backtrack a little! First, these are quarto books, so they're short. But I think these average a little under 500 pages each, and jwqs is a LONG book (my beloved), and this adds up to a total eleven inches of lesbians. More like twelve once they're in their cases. It's over a million characters in Chinese and I think the English translation comes in somewhere around 890k, it's HUGE

Making these books was SO FUN, I hadn't read jwqs and still haven't, and will probably read on my phone when I do. I don't have any exciting photos of the typesetting, but I knew this was an imperial succession story, and that made me nervous, those stories don't always click for me. Well, the process of typesetting and adding footnotes for this beast definitely confirmed that I'm going to have a good time with this thing when I have the time to read it, but there was also so much going on that only the vaguest of spoilers sank in. I went into an absolute FRENZY of typesetting, and after I printed, cut and folded it, well. That was one afternoon of sewing. You're looking at the reason I'm scrambling to make up a few hours of missed work, hahaha

After that, I needed cases. At the very beginning of march, I received a shipment of some FASCINATING bookcloth. It's called Duo, and it's made by layering a thin gauzy fabric of one color over paper of a different color. Depending on the combos, you get a really cool range of color-shifting effects. And they've gone out of production! But I was part of a group order to get some of the goods, and hadn't yet finished a new project. Reader, I went for it.

That purple and green is bananas!!!! It's so hard to photograph, this midnight picture of a few cases is one of my most successful attempts to capture the full range up close. Originally I'd been thinking of trying to evoke imperial gold, but I figured this was still the kind of drama and luxury suited the book, and also something something the hidden colors suited Qi Yan's character. I tied it back a little to the imperial gold with the endpapers, then titled them in silver foil, since the endpapers had silver in them.

But once the books were made, I felt like it wanted something... more. Something like a BOX!

And me, I chase novelty. A set this large would be tricky for anything clamshell, but a slipcase for all seven would leave books tipping all over if it was wide open, but putting walls between slots would be demanding in terms of precision and would risk similarly-sized books getting stuck in the wrong slots. Then I remembered learning about slipcases where you could put in a little insert to support the weight of the text block, and the concept SNAPPED into place.

Colors aren't going to photograph well at midnight, but I made the supports using the scraps and off-cuts from my endpapers, to tie it back into the bindings. The back of the case is lined in more of the duo, and the walls are lined with a faux leather bookcloth I like a lot, it feels buttery smooth and seemed like a good neutral material to tie the papers and bookcloth together. I listened to some of the DEEPEST layers from the nine-hour conspiracy theory iceberg video while I was working on this, haha, it was a TRIP.

And in the end, each of the supports is sized to comfortably sit in the smallest of the volumes, and evenly spaced, so I believe it will take the books in any order with no problems. It's easy to grab the books without having to cut notches into the walls to grab them from. And even though weight is less of an issue for quarto sizing, the books in here have their weight supported no matter what angle the box is at! I'm so, so pleased with how this concept worked out and definitely plan to do more with it in the future.

So there we are! Jing Wei Qing Shang! I had such a fabulous time with this project, and I'm so excited to get to share it with all of you. The story was fun to work with, the bindings and box were fun to make, and everything here came together just as well as I could possibly have hoped. I'm so proud of this, and incredibly, incredibly excited to show it to you!

Is magnetic and beautiful in everything she's in and gave us all the juicy scandal with her sibling rivalry with Joan Fontaine! Before the Oscar Slap was the Oscar sister snub! Also everything she wears in Robin Hood she makes beautiful even a purple green and orange monstrosity how does she do it! Anyway this scene is one of my old Hollywood favourites

I don't normally do tag games, but I got tagged in this twice (by @jealous-kippen and @remmixx, my beloveds <3) so here I am! (also as I'm writing this out I am realizing that while both posts were titled the same way, it looks like they had different question prompts??? So I'm just gonna combine the two)

Favorite Color: Purple! Any shade will have my heart but I am partial to more red-toned purples. (PV, if that means anything to anyone who sees this other than me, you know who you are)

Currently Reading: Three things! In terms of actual books, I've been slowly making my way through the Riordanverse since my university did The Lightning Thief in my second year (first school in my state to do it once the rights were released!) since I somehow never got into Percy Jackson as a kid, and I'm currently on Son of Neptune. I'm also one like my third or fourth re-read of Eurydice by Sara Ruhl, since that's the play I'm designing the costumes for for my senior project. And in terms of fanfic, I woke up to a notification about this yesterday and Actually Screeched.

Last Song: Dial Drunk by Noah Kahan (ft. Post Malone), which was a bit of an accident. I use siri to request music while I'm driving and I asked for Dial Drunk and was singing along until I got jumpscared by the slight difference before Post Malone's verse. Although if you look at my spotify, the ROTPL album has been on repeat for weeks.

Currently Watching (Series): I've been hyperfixated on ROTPL and have watched it over a dozen times at this point, which is probably not healthy, so I put on NCIS last night for background noise while I ate dinner and accidentally watched like six episodes.

Currently Watching (Movie): Saw the Barbie movie the night before the actual opening with my coworkers (We don't cross picket lines people! I was not asked nor invited by any company, and I paid full price for my ticket. There's a one-screen theatre in the town where I'm doing summer stock, this relic from the 50's, and they were able to get access to the film a day early and did a special first come first serve premiere.) and we all sobbed the entire way through.

Current Obsession: Rise of the Pink Ladies. Full stop. I'd seen clips of it when it first aired in April but I was iffy on it in spite of how good it looked. Like most, I'm a little tired of reboots and remakes, and while I did clock Cynthia as being queer within two seconds, (I believe my exact words were "That's either a very butch lesbian or the eggiest egg to ever egg.") I was Convinced it was a queerbait situation. Plus I was nearing finals and didn't have time to get into a new show. But then Crushing Me was trending on tiktok and I realized this was not queerbait, so I put it on to have something playing while I packed for summer stock and it's been the only thing I can think about since mid May. It got me writing fanfic again for the first time in years, if that tells you anything. Speaking of,

Currently Working On: A follow-up to my previous fic, Steady, Steady! I wanted to have it up this week, but it is a behemoth. I'm a little over halfway through my plot outline and I'm at 10,441 words. Fun fact, this will be my longest single-chapter fic so far. Not just in the fandom, not just on AO3, but ever (so far!)

Just a very short and atmospheric peice set in a modern au where Caleb and Veth met at university, and he’s driving her part of the way home for the holidays.

Reccer Says: I can’t describe the feelings this fic gives me. It’s understated and bittersweet and so full of longing that you’ll want to die. It feels like a Hemingway story almost with the way it manages to pack so much meaning in between the words the characters actually say.

-Gretchen actually can tell really good jokes, she just doesn't tell them

-Jessica and Letty are lesbian I swear to god they are

-Poonchy is a lot like Tobias from the amazing world of gumball except maybe a little less mean

-Mr. Elliot is Ms. Bitters son, he likes being around her so he got the same job as her (despite her protests)

They are only dressed in the everyday category. If you'd like inspo for Quinta, check out the lookbook I did HERE. All the CC I used is BGC, but their eyes and some skin details fall in the "occult scar" category. (If you don't have vampires or werewolves you'll need the CAS unlock mod to get the hidden occult categories.) Lastly, I use the Preferences + mod, so you will probably see a like or dislike from that in the mix. If you don't use that mod, no worries - those likes/dislikes just won't show up.

You're Too Sweet For Me

It's not often that either of them have a chance to slip away unnoticed.

With Cassandra's family constantly putting pressure on her as the heir, and Grayson's academic studies taking up most of her time, both young women can usually only meet for a short rendezvous. However, they finally both manage to steal away a couple of hours to see one another, to bask in their innocent affections. A lovely, sprawled out garden stretches around them, very unlike the ones found in the rest of Piltover.

This garden might as well act as an echo of their love. The flowers are vibrant in color, the weeds and plants untamed and the whole place seems to be buzzing with life. A distant trickle of water can be heard, but neither have made the effort to find the source of the sound.

It's a warm spring day, a soft breeze blowing to quell the heat caused by the sun. 

Cassandra and Grayson are situated on the grass, a picnic blanket sprawled out under them as they lie next to one another. The food is set aside for the moment, forgotten as the couple is busy soaking in each other's warmth and presence, after days spent apart due to the ever-persistent duties. 

Cassandra's eyes are closed, a small smile on her face as she enjoys a rare moment of reprieve. Grayson would find it a shame, to be unable to see the sapphires resting behind her beloved's eyelids, if Cassandra didn't look so utterly relaxed. No matter how many times she looks at her, Cassandra's beauty will never fail to amaze her. The way her brown curls frame her sharp face, an almost cold beauty to her features. And the way the purple sundress gathers around her tall, slim body makes Grayson shiver. Grayson herself is wearing simple loose pants and a white blouse, the top of it unbuttoned, partly for comfort, partly because she knows it makes Cassandra's head spin, as much as she tries to hide it.

It's a rare sight, one which Grayson seldom takes for granted. Everyone knows how serious and stern Cassandra tries to appear. Loyal to a fault towards the ones she loves and dedicated to securing her family's legacy above everything else. She never shows weakness, never lets anyone see her break down or hear her complain.

Except for Grayson.

Grayson, who is her rock, a shoulder to cry on and knight in shinning armor. Cassandra's love and appreciation towards her are silent but all-encompassing. 

Even a gaze from her can make Grayson stumble and trip over her own feet like a fool. She would never reveal this, but one of the biggest motivations for Grayson's enrollment into the Enforcer Academy was so that her place next to Cassandra's side is secured. So that she can protect her.

Grayson knows that their love may be fleeting, but every day she prays that she's wrong. That whoever might be listening and gazing upon them could grant the small mercy of allowing them to love freely, forever.

She utters that silent prayer, pressing a soft kiss against Cassandra's forehead, causing the latter to let out a small hum.

Cassandra reaches up to tangle a hand into the material of Grayson's shirt, pulling her down until she can feel her breath against her lips.

''Kiss me properly, my dear.'' Cassandra utters softly, but without lenience, and Grayson, the lovesick fool that she is, happily obliges. 

Grayson leans down so her body hovers over Cassandra's, her strong arms caging her in as they kiss. Grayson lets out a small groan as her girlfriend's graceful fingers bury themselves in her thick, short hair, tugging softly.

Eventually, they both pull away, their faces flushed and breaths shaky. Sitting up, they decide to leave the more passionate activities for later, and use this rare opportunity to watch the sunset. Grayson starts taking out some of the food they brought along. Cookies, mini sandwiches, iced tea and of course, Cassandra's favorite, strawberry cheesecake, are sprawled out on the blanket in a matter of minutes.

Upon noticing the attention to detail that Grayson paid to her beloved's likes and dislikes, Cassandra presses a grateful kiss against her cheek, leaving a soft pink lipstick imprint in her wake.

''You're always so good to me, my love.'' Cassandra coos in Grayson's ear, wrapping her arms around her waist and nuzzling her nose against Grayson's neck.

''Only because you deserve it.'' Grayson replies in that gravely, deep voice. One that never fails to make Cassandra's stomach burst with butterflies.

They giggle softly, admiring one another's lovesick look in their eyes. How wonderful it is to be so young and have a person who makes you forget about the rest of the world, even for just a single afternoon.

So, they eat, they joke and they laugh, they share kisses, they revel in longing looks and soft touches. 

At one point, Grayson dozes off for a bit, giving Cassandra the perfect opportunity to pick the flowers around them and put the most beautiful ones in Grayson's hair. Grayson's nose scrunches up as she wakes up from the short nap, noticing that her head is now resting in her beloved's lap. 

''Trying to make a bouquet out of my head?'' She asks in a hoarse voice, her lips instantly forming a smile when Cassandra chuckles shyly in return, embarrassed at being caught.

Grayson slowly sits up, careful not to make the flowers fall out as her eyes search for a specific flower. She spots a lone chrysanthemum and picks it up with gentle fingers before taking Cassandra's soft, manicured hand in her own calloused one. Grayson frowns slightly in concentration as she struggles to tie the stem of the flower around Cassandra's ring finger. Once she's done, she presses a gentle kiss against Cassandra's knuckles, a kiss of devotion.

''I swear that one day, I'm going to put a real ring there.'' She whispers, looking up to meet her beloved's eyes, which are shinning with tears. ''You know that I always make good on my promises.''

Unable to utter any words, Cassandra simply picks out one of the flowers in Grayson's hair, only to then take her hand and do the same.

''A promise for a promise, my love.'' She whispers, returning the gesture and sealing it with a kiss. 

The sun has long since set, but they remain.
