A horror tale set in a High School where the students suspect the teaching staff of being aliens, who are intent on making the students their victims.

Fun Facts -   The drug test scene is an homage to the blood test in The Thing (1982).

Principal Drake gets her name from the Drake Equation, which is used to estimate how much intelligent life there is in the universe.

Originally titled 'The Feelers'

The score is composed by Marco Beltrami, who had previously scored the teen-slasher-horror film, Scream (1996), as well as Mimic (1997).

Clea DuVall said the character she plays is a lot like her when she was 14 or 15: dark, brooding, and discontent.

Sherilyn Fenn was Rodriguez's first choice to play Elizabeth Burke.

(at around 7 mins) At the start of the movie, Coach Willis (Robert Patrick) is seen standing at the end of a long hall, then begins running down the hall in pursuit of Principal Drake (Bebe Neuwirth). The way he runs, and the way the scene is shot (cutting back and forth between Willis running and Drake trying to open the door) mirrors a similar scene in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), when the T-1000--also played by Patrick--is chasing the Connors and the T-800 down a long hall while they wait for an elevator to open.

Marybeth says she came from Atlanta and speaks with a southern accent, in real life Laura Harris is actually Canadian.

This movie borrows liberally from both Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Thing. The whole imposter in the human body concept is Body Snatchers. The scene where science teacher John Stewart's fingers get chopped off and are crawling away is lifted directly from the Thing. The test tube sniffing scene is also a funny reiteration of the blood test scene from the Thing.

A lot of the filming was done at the high school in Lockhart, Texas. The football team was used and the city was told to show up for the football game and were given fake t-shirts to wear in the stands.

The original uncut version of the film included a character named Venus (played by Kidada Jones) who was in about five scenes. All her scenes were cut. She is shown in some TV previews for the film, as well as Faculty/Tommy Hilfinger ads and commercials. She is also visible in a scene in the theatrical version, standing next to Gabe (Usher) in Mr Furlong's (Jon Stewarts) science class when they are looking at the "new species" in the aquarium.
