With his furlough at the fire department finally approved, Malcolm has surprised Naomi with a very special trip to celebrate their 1 year anniversary!

It’s an early flight and of course Naomi is slow to pack. She can’t figure out what to wear since Malcolm is keeping the itinerary under wraps. The only clue she has is that they’re getting out of the Newcrest frost!

It is the first time they have ever traveled together and there is as much excitement as there is intrigue for what’s to come. 💙🐚🪸

Oh my god hi ! I love Jayden but personally adore animal prints myself so I’d say they’re totally stylable depending on your preferences !

I tend to think overly glossy patterns ( animal or not ) tend to appear a bit cheap / too plasticky so since most of them end up being that way it’s hard to put into an outfit ! But when you do find that little rare pearl, you end up wearing it over and over again ( aka me with my fake crocodile boots lol ) 🌺🍓

And tbh at the end of the day I think someone with a good fashion sense / good accessorizing skills can definitely pull off anything 🫶

| ena’s mother often took her to the beach when it was just those two or they’d even go as a whole family. but it was a special place to ber mom because she gave birth to ena on the beach. crazy right?

| her mom showed up to all of her soccer games and ice skating competitions when her dad couldn’t. she’d cheer ena on and be the one obnoxiously loud mom at sports games.

| when ena was 16, her parents got a divorce. which is also why they moved to busan. her mother felt that she didn’t bring anything to the family and thought she couldn’t take care of her kids. when she lost her job, she never wanted to be around her husband anymore. it was a dramatic change for everyone, none of them could figure out what was wrong with her.

| she cheated on ena’s dad with multiple men before he caught her and took the kids with him, leaving their mother in japan.

| ena’s mom became a guilt tripping person, constantly making her and her sister feel horrible. yet, she still tries to rekindle their relationship by calling every now and then. she frequently drinks which leads to her calling her kids while being drunk or calling her ex-husband crying. he helps her as much as he can but he doesn’t get attached, still being hurt from what she did.

| eventually she got closer with naomi and got used to her being around. as a teen though, she was still a bit awkward and naomi completely understood that. she always told ena that even if she wasn’t her birth mother, she could always come to her to talk or if she needed anything. of course ena was a bit nervous when she said that but she was okay with it. eventually.

| when ena became a trainee, naomi was her #1 supporter other than her sister. she would send food to her dorm even though she knew ena was supposed to be dieting. she’d also send encouraging texts to which ena was a bit awkward about (per usual) so she’d often leave her on seen. but she started to send thank you’s to her and would actually answer her calls when she wanted to see how ena was doing.

| yeeun and ena have been close since they were little. inseparable, if you will. yeeun used to lay on and hug her mother’s belly when she was pregnant with ena. she would sing to ena, read, and tell her about her days in school.

| ena’s nickname ‘berry’ became a thing when she was about 5 and she stole a bit of yeeun’s berries from the fridge. of course when yeeun got home from school and saw that many of her berries were missing, she was furious. their mother solved their fighting by explaining to yeeun that ena was younger than her and that they had to share. from then on, she would refer to her younger sister as ‘berry’.

| when their mom left, ena shut herself out from everyone. yeeun was the only one who could get through to her. she would cry to her at late nights and would even go to her room sometimes. yeeun tried to stay strong for her baby sister, hiding her tears whenever ena cried.

| to this day, ena and yeeun are just as close. yeeun often goes to see her sister whether he at stages, shoots, or hanging out on a day off.

what sections of a bookstore do you browse? in new bookstores, the SFF and nature writing ones, primarily !! at used bookstores (which i prefer), i look at all of them. it's just that it's hard to get good sci-fi used -- it's always pulp fiction from the 70s which is just not my thing LOL

most disliked popular books? i am still mad about uprooted by naomi novik. parts of it were so-so-so good, like i loved the description of magic as a work which people participate to make and must keep steady, but every time the male love interest had a line of dialogue...... yikes. i couldn't finish it.

what are things you look for in a book? so like. i mostly read books that my friends have recommended LOL but if i'm at the library or similar then i read the blurb for a good premise and read a page at random to get a feel of the prose. this has led to lots of stinkers though so don't listen to me

i guess like, re: recommendations, what makes me want to read a book is when the person says "oh this made me feel like chewing plywood btw." no matter what it's about.. i just want to read everybody's favorite books lol

☘️ Best book you’ve read so far in 2022: Either Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones or A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik. But I also loved loved loved The Queen’s Gambit by Walter Tevis.

🌾 Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022: The only two sequels I read were Before the Coffee Gets Cold: Tales from the Café by Toshikazu Kawaguchi and Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo. The former definitely wins out.

🌵 New release you haven’t read yet but want to: Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao, my mutuals have been full of praise.

🌻 Most anticipated release for the second half of the year: No idea how I heard this or if it’s even true, but was there a new Sophie Kinsella book coming out?

🌺 Biggest surprise favourite new author (debut or new to you): Casey McQuiston, I really liked One Last Stop.

🍀 Newest fictional crush/newest favorite character: Beth Harmon from The Queen’s Gambit. Love her no-bullshit intensity.

💐 Book that made you cry: Before the Coffee Gets Cold: Tales from the Café by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. And I didn’t love the book that much, not sure if it was the translation, but it still managed to tug on my heartstrings.

🌲 Book that made you happy: Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. Read it as a buddy-read, and it was wonderful.

🌿 Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received): The House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, it’s very unique.

🍂 What books do you need to read by the end of the year?: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. THIS IS THE YEAR.
