What are tone tags?
AH! Sorry! I guess it didn't occur to me that some wouldn't know what tone tags were. Here's a full guide from this site!
what is tone?
tone is what a phrase or statement means or comes across as despite what it's actually saying. examples of tone could be serious, joking, lighthearted, etc.
what are tone tags?
tone tags / tone indicators are things you can include with text to indicate what the tone of it is.
why are they used?
some people have difficulty picking up on tone. communicating through text only makes this harder due to lack of audio and physical clues (voice inflection, body language, facial expressions, etc.) tagging what tone you are using can be very helpful for others understanding of what you're saying, clarification, avoiding miscommunications, etc.
when/where should they be used?
they can be used any time or place you may be communicating through text.
do not mock the use of tone tags. you may not need them but some people do. not everyone can tell when something is a joke, etc. just be nice about it.

wrt that poll abt tone indicators thats going around.w ell first of all tbh i think some of the hatred for them comes from cringe culture. but second of all. some of the criticism is totally fair like there are a fuckton of tone indicators and sometimes . there really dont need to be. and the abbreviations can be confusing i try to type out ones that arent s srs or j. tho i feel like most of the newer ones were popularized on twt so itmakes sense they wouldnt be written all the way out
like i think my prolem is when theres SO many and theyre redundant. i found a carrd with a fuckton of them that im gonna comment on To entertain myself sorry
like these 3 all feel redundant .. why do u need a different tone tag for Mostly joking than Half joking ? or for a Coping joke ? just use /j or combine with with like, /neg or something to get the tone across yknow? and /ji - first of all looks like /ij (inside joke), second of all why not just use /j
and like. why half serious or mostly serious or not serious when /j or /hj exist ? why /ns when it looks so similar to /nsrs, which means the opposite ? ive been using /s since like 2015 and /srs since like 2018 so ivegot those down and dont confuse them but i see why could be for some one who hasnt used them b4, why make it more complicated?
i like /g or /gen in theory- ppl have said its confusing bc gen could be general which i get, but for ppl familiar w tone tags tend to know what it means. genq is one ive used just bc. its fun to type tbh. and i think ppl get what it means but its not really Necessary. BUt genep and genc feel unnecessary when /g and /srs exist, and /gene is just, a word. that's just a word ! 😭

need /nfl on a shirt in the aro colors so poeple know im not fucking interested in them. that aside. 1. whywould u need this ever !!! why not use again just /j if necessary.and 2. isnt the nfl a football thing
these r similar but i do like them, i think typing out a whole word again is a better solution so u dont have to scavenge google for the meaning but i think its helpful to clarify this and isnt synonymous with /j or /s or /lh

ok i wont say that typing tics dont exist bc tics can be complex and vary by situation etc so im sure they can, but is that happening That much that u need a tone tag for it ? and also like. for /unin just delete the msg or say "oops sent too early hang on" or smth.. and as for vocal stim. first of all why is it /vt ? and second of all . why ... would u need that to type out ? bc if ur vocal stimming that would be. out loud? i.e. not in a chat where youre typing ???????@????>?,//???? BAFFLING. also in what situation is /gib necessary i genuinely cant think of one

None of this is to rag on tone indicators (/genuine) i think they can be helpful + i am always being gensrs when i use them. i just think some r a little silly & a lot from longer lists are unhelpful Bc theyre supposed to make communication Easier and Clearer + haveing So many tone indicators with Different Implied Tones WITHIN the indicators !!! makes it harder imo. bc if theyre to clarify tone why should i have to fight for my life deciphering why someone went from /mj to /hj yknow.
like this is all my Opinion and imsure these r all helpful for Someone otherwise they wouldnt exist but i rly feel like the system could be condensed a bit yk.

tbh as an autist i feel like many tone tags make communication more confusing. for example, the sentence "you look lovely today!!" makes sense and requires very little/no decoding, but the sentence "you look lovely today!! /gen /nsx /pc /nbr /p" is very confusing and requires a lot of decoding and background knowledge of what the tone tags stand for in order to figure out what it means. i'm not saying that tone tags are bad, but i do think that oftentimes they're needlessly confusing, and putting like 5 tone tags on a sentence (as some people do) makes it really hard to read.
#also ngl it feels a bit condescending to have 50000 tone tags slapped onto a sentence like ~how are you today?~ or smth like that#it makes me feel like i'm being talked down to sometimes

♡CGL - a sexual relationship between a caregiver and a little while regressed
♡CGLRE - a non-sexual relationship between a caregiver and a little while regressed
♡DDLG+Variants - bdsm term where one plays the parental role and one plays the child
♡NSFW/NSFT - Not Safe For Work/Tumblr, sexual connotations
♡ABDL - adult baby diaper lover, a fetish where an adult wears a diaper for sexual reasons
♡Agere - shorter term for age regression
♡Flip - a person who can fluctuate between caregiver and little
♡Petre - a shorter term for pet regression
♡Little/Big Age - the age someone is while regressed/the age someone is while not regressed
♡AgeDre - shorter term for age dreamer
♡Age Dreamer - someone who acts like a child for coping reasons but doesn't actually regress
♡Crosstagging - when someone uses both sfw and nsfw tags on a post, so it becomes harmful to both communities

I think people are just nervous. No matter how much I say "my inbox is open, PLEASE just send me something" no one ever really says anything except you, and Moth from a-vampire-moth (another of my mutuals).
My father is very much so a "If your going to do it try your hardest" kind of person, which is also what he expects of me, and unless it's something that interests me or I have a lot of motivation, I'm doing it at my full capability yk? I also don't always have the energy to give things my full being. /random
Btw I appreciate lol (about the liking our mutuals thing, do not remember the exact wording) and I love all of my mutuals too!! /gen
I definitely get the nervous part, I.. Only really tend to go to ask boxes when I feel welcome which is an issue for me because of how sometimes I can take tone wrong horribly and my brain flies to "they don't like you they're going to abandon you" bullshit. I have extreme abandonment issues. /lh, nav, nay
Augh I get that. My dad was like that too a lot. I'm more of a "just do what you can please don't fucking hurt yourself trying to do something too hard" kind of bat because I've wrecked myself on multiple occasions pushing myself too hard to appease others or even myself. It's sad because again I don't take care of myself.
I care about my mutuals deeply and I so try my best to let everyone know that. I can come off as an asshole a lot when I don't mean it and I think part of that recently was with my boundaries and how they got trampled over. I told someone nicely a few times not to tag my nonhuman blog on monster high posts and they fucking blocked me. It made me sad at first but then I realized that if they weren't going to respect my boundaries then they weren't a mutual I wanted to have anyway. That's up for my safety although atp idgaf if I talk about being a fictionkin here because I'm somewhat sick of the monster high fandom. /nbr
