Pfft, poor alpha with the pup mediation XD This is still where I think these two would struggle the most.

I guess the one thing I thought of is, if Itachi has pups straight away, which he wants, then Neji is too young for his own (in his opinion) and doesn't know about his infertility, so he'd probably take more cues from Itachi with pup rearing.

Maybe just maybe, this means Neji chills out a little when he has his own or Itachi has his second, because he's already seen a pup be successfully raised without 100% organic food lol.

Neji will need to chill out, because if he doesn't, him and Itachi won't get along. Itachi doesn't appreciate digs at his parenting style, and Neji... is petty.

I do really agree with you on Neji comforting Itachi though, I think that's sweet. When Itachi does go into subspace, Neji can stroke his hair and whisper naughty things. I like that!

Idk about the other way around though, because I think Itachi is one of those people that is deeply uncomfortable with roleplaying. He just... can't be anyone but himself because it makes him want to curl up into a ball and die lol.

Itachi isn't that good at building nests either, but he's better than Neji which is good, I guess. It becomes an awkward team effort between three people that aren't great at nests, but it gets done XD

I think Itachi would mother hen Neji when he's going through those first intensive painful heats. Alpha is on sex duty. Itachi is on cleaning, cooking, feeding, bathing and comforting duty.

He preps meals, helps hold Neji's head up when he needs to drink, wipes him down when he's sweating, constantly does laundry. I think Itachi has a nice comforting scent too. Neji's is the more mainstream attractive scent, but I think he likes Itachi's scent because it just smells... calm.

But if alpha was asleep and Neji was begging for some relief... Itachi would provide.

Can you imagine waking up and seeing Itachi eating out Neji right beside you?? I'd think I'd died and gone to heaven lmao.

concept: tori trains sakura for the chunin exams

i'm not 100% sure how the exams will go, since i'm not sure what orochimaru's involvement would be. but let's say team 7 all make it to the tournament.

kakashi does about zero training with naruto because in this au he has Very Involved Parents. minato wants to give him toads. kushina wants to toss him off a cliff and see if he manifests chains. naruto has recently seen tori do some Insane Things with fuinjutsu on the wave mission and he wants to do that.

i'm thinking kakashi still teaches sasuke chidori? sasuke wants itachi to train with him but itachi is like "i can some days, but have you considered it would make me feel better if you could electrocute people." but probably kakashi doesn't take him out of the village because even if i do let orochimaru be a known threat, this time around sasuke ALSO has an Involved Family.

meanwhile kakashi has no idea what to do with sakura. on day one he has her fight sasuke and it's sort of a disaster. idk what the other match-ups will be, but i'm going to have sakura draw neji. so kakashi is like "unfortunately i'm pretty sure neji would try to murder even a cute little girl." so he's very nervous but not in Crisis Mode because he knows he could intervene if necessary

and then Tori shows up and is like "hey kid, wanna learn a jutsu?" and kakashi is like "man, yeah, tori is a way better match for this" so he oversees sakura doing some conditioning and sparring with naruto/sasuke, but he mostly leaves her to tori. he figures she's learning, like, fighting with a staff or basic fuinjutsu or something.

tori: okay, listen. neji is a genius but he doesn't actually have a ton of versatility is terms of how he's going to attack you.

tori: we're going to make it so that if he hits you, you melt off his fingers <3

tori's ulterior motive is that sakura actually uses her technique the way she wants it to be used-- which is NOT FOR FLESH MELTING. she gives sakura a bunch of speeches about how she can't turn the technique all the way up unless she's literally about to die because being a good kunoichi isn't about how many limbs you knock off!!!!

sakura doesn't really have the Finesse down yet, but she can make it so that hitting her shaves off layers of neji's skin.

Bouncing off this post here, I want to talk a little about Neji and romantic relationships beyond just my shipping preferences. Though I wouldn't call this very exact meta either, as there's nothing to really go off of.

The truth is, Neji died before his love life was relevant. I know a lot of people think that he and Tenten would have ended up together but I'm not so sure. I believe he would have stayed uncoupled like his teammates in canon. Team Gai are Team Comic Relief and have genuinely had the most wholly platonic team-centric content of any of the Konoha 12 and the only crush we see from any of them is Lee's on Sakura, which was never gonna happen. I doubt Kishimoto would leave only Lee uncoupled of the team. At most, I think Neji would end the series with an implied off-screen Hyūga wife and a kid.

To add to this, as far as spin-off/AU/filler content goes, we only see 'Neji is a perv' 'Neji has a sister complex' 'Hinata considers Neji a romantic rival' 'Neji is unaffected by Sexy no Jutsu', none of which are a serious attempt to answer the question of 'What does Neji want?'

I also wonder if Neji could even marry out of the Hyūga clan, not just because of his caste status, but because he's a nobleman. He's not likely to be taking someone else's name. Historically speaking, men tend to be the only ones who can start a new branch clan, but in canon the equivalent of this is Hizashi being sealed. Hyūga seem to keep to themselves; Himawari and Boruto imply that the white eyes are a recessive trait. Hinata marrying out is an exception because she was already effectively disowned and she's marrying the Ninja Saviour.

(Of course, if Kishimoto wanted it to happen it would, the Hyūga entering the modern world and changing, but I'm working within the understanding of what we have.)

Narratively speaking, Neji is also far more intertwined with the destiny of the Hyūga clan than Hinata, whose story has centered her feelings for Naruto from the jump. I have a hard time seeing him leaving his family behind for love. Though he's had some very valid issues with his family, he's also fully embraced their techniques and their name; he just wants the respect and equal treatment he's owed within that.

With no canon evidence of romantic interest to go on, I personally focus on how Neji is like Gaara, that is, such a Naruto fanboy that it becomes its own beast of the headiest affectionate feelings we see displayed from them. Neji smiling so genuinely at what could be his final moments because he's thinking of how Naruto saved him is pretty intense.

I've touched on it in another post, but I also think it's sincerely amusing that when Hinata sacrifices herself in the Pain Invasion Neji goes "Why'd she do that?" His own dad sacrificed himself for love! And he has to know of her feelings for Naruto. He even asks if she wants to see Naruto off at the end of part one and hears of how the mere sight of Naruto gives Hinata the vapours. Yet he just doesn't get it ... until you fast forward a bit and put him on that battlefield with Naruto and Hinata in danger, and suddenly Neji's taking the bullet. As he dies in Naruto's arms, he says, "Naruto, Hinata-sama is willing to die for you. So remember you hold more than one life in your hands. And it seems that my life too may have been one of them." He directly parallels himself to Hinata (who sacrificed herself for love of Naruto) and says Naruto holds his life too. I mean, alright!

I'm not saying Kishimoto deliberately wrote Neji in love with Naruto but I think so long as Neji and Hinata are foils to each other who are both moved by the same man, you can derive interesting interpretations from that.

To return to 'what would Neji want' my personal answer is 'Someone able to offer perspectives he had not considered.' It's not just about being challenged -- the person needs to have a real point to make that they can back up. This suggests the person in question would need a certain strength of character, intuition, and likely the power to influence the world around them. This is generally what I go with when writing, but of course, it remains all headcanon.

I hope people forgive me for this very speculative post, I just ... got carried away writing it so hey. Here ya go! 👋

Everyone loves pranking Neji, including Temari. There's just something so satisfying about him telling you to die, and complaining about how no one takes him seriously.

I think they could have a really sweet friendship (or romantic relationships, if you're into them), but they also could be really weird enemies in a modern au. I think they'd have disputes about fandoms like MLP (never watched it but it seems like something they'd like idkw) and fighting over Naruto.

Neji and Temari would be bitchy older siblings together who gossip about their younger siblings, but are like, "oh we're just looking out for them ☺️" Definitely the type of older siblings to embarrass their younger ones in front of their crush.

Hanabi and Kankuro have menace little siblings vibes. I know they're so annoying and picky with everything.

Been thinking about what if Naruto went to AU and like all the characters were in the My hero Universe IT IS I IM BACK

Naruto wants to be the number 1 hero he wants to surpass All might so he goes to UA

Sasuke gets into UA (we all saw this coming) he got in on recommendation cause his family are police people. He wants to avenge and revenge and all that the Uchiha thing happen but i can't really think why all that stuff would happen if you can think of a reason let me know.

Sakura she has a medical quirk she doesn't come from a fancy famliy but UA wants her cause they want her to train under recovery girl medical quirks are extremely un heard of and rare so she's special a little bit right from the get go

The sports festival with these guys would be so awesome to watch. Sakura gets her hair cut in the tournament, he also fights Gaara who also goes to UA either that or include him fighting him later on maybe? Lee gets hurt by Gaara and recovery girl doesn't want to work on him cause he could die from her healing him so they send him to a specialist Tsunade, Tenten fights Temari, Hinata fights Neji, Shikamaru fights Temari, Neji fights Naruto, Naruto fights Gaara, Ino fights Sakura it's a tie like Kirishima's fight they don't do a rock paper scissor or arm wrestle it's just a tie. Sasuke fights Gaara but Gaara doesn't care about him so i don't know how that ends up everyone has their fights

the camp trip, Naruto hears that Deku's class is getting to go to camp and his isn't so Naruto makes a plan to sneak on the bus that's how he gets to the training camp, they very well can't send him home so they allow him to be there. Sasuke not wanting to left out and wanting to out do Naruto tags along how did Sakura get here you may ask? Well Kakashi the UA teacher had already made previsions for his students to go to the camp alongside class 1-A and 1-B so sneaking onto the bus was not even necessary, Sasuke feels stupid that he even did that with Naruto so they now have passes to be here.

The LOV attack and it hurts Naruto that even though he doesn't like Bakugo he got stolen and he hurts with Deku that that happen. Sasuke attempts to fight itachi who is with the LOV for some reason i don't and he does what he did when Sasuke found him and Jiraiya saved him but Jiraiya isn't here right now Naruto can do a work study with him later.

Naruto and Sasuke "fought" Itachi in the training camp, Sakura was there but she just kinda didn't fight, she just kinda didn't do anything and feels useless about it

Talking about AUs, can y'all imagine how incredibly anti-climatic the war would have been with Shisui around

Maybe there's a bit of a struggle to get Madara and Obito side-by-side right where Shisui wants them, but then one look and they're trapped in Kotoamatsukami. I could throw in some sort of mental fight in a Mangekyō-scape of some sort, maybe the Rinnegan is fighting back, it's supposed to be the strongest Dōjutsu after all and neither Madara nor Obito want to give in, but eventually Kotoamatsukami wins

On the outside, it lasts a grand total of one whole second, and then everything is finished. Obito and Madara now have ingrained in their brain that they don't want to fight anymore

Obito is the first one to understand because he has spent some time studying Shisui, he wanted his eyes, wanted to use them just like this but to convince everyone else to join their cause. Madara rages when Obito explains to him what happened. He tries to attack Shisui, but the gunbai stops just shy of his neck, almost like an invisible force is keeping him from moving any further no matter how much Madara tries to force himself to kill him

And that's it. Shisui passes out after pouring almost his entire chakra reserves into the technique to make it as strong as possible, Sakura rushes to him to make sure he doesn't die. Itachi has taken care of Kabuto, although Madara now has a living, breathing body but at least all the other enemy reanimations are gone. Zetsu doesn't understand why Obito and Madara are not trying to use Infinite Tsukuyomi anymore, but it's pissed about it, tries to posess one of the two but with only one Rinnegan what is it going to do? It leaves, swearing to come back

The Sage of Six Paths arrives some time later, expecting to find people struggling, ready for his speech to Naruto and Sasuke about being reincarnations and Kaguya and saving the world, but instead finds everyone kinda just... Chilling around. Obito is catching up with Kakashi. Shisui is resting with Sasuke and Itachi sitting by his side. Minato is talking with Naruto. Madara is pouting sitting in a corner while Hashirama tries to talk to him. They're all just resting before going home, like a bunch of friends after a mission instead of enemies like they should have been. Every Bijuu has been released, the Juubi no more. Neji is alive because I said so

And that's it. Maybe the Sage uses his powers to give Hashirama a living body because he begs him to so he can stay with Madara now that he's alive again. Tobirama just wants this to be over with and to go back to the Pure Lands. Minato is a bit reluctant to go, but Naruto promised him that everything's good now so his father can go away peacefully. Hiruzen is just sort of like there. Everything is good now. Sakura, Tsunade, Shizune and every other medic is going around healing the injured, people slowly start going back home, the battlefield starts emptying out

Maybe Shisui goes a bit blind afterwards, but that's it. The end 🙌🏼

Uuuh wait I have an idea for Neji in the Iwa!Gai AU

So, Neji runs away and it stands to reason that Hiashi wants to find him again, I imagine that Neji runs away when he's fairly young and Gai maybe finds him some years before Neji can become a genin

Team Ro get tasked with finding any possible clue on Neji, because with Kakashi's hounds and Shisui/Itachi's Sharingan, even if its not as good with detecting chakra as the Byakugan, (and the crows) they have a higher chance of finding Neji than any other team

Of course Kakashi has no idea, at this point, that Gai found Neji so he just follows the mission with his team, and when they are able to track Neji down, maybe without a blindfold still so they recognize the Byakugan, maybe Gai and the Tsuchikage still have to come up with that idea, Gai of course protects him

Imagine Kakashi at some point ordering his team to stand down, maybe Gai tells Kakashi that Neji decided to ran away because of how awful the clan was to him and how Neji said that he would prefer to die rather than to go back, and Kakashi doesn't feel like taking the boy back to his clan now that he knows at least a part of Neji's reasons

So they stand there, awkwardly looking at each other, until Shisui makes the most dramatic sigh and looks up the sky with a sad (and clearly fake) expression and goes like "Such a young boy, it's a shame he died so early in his life" and at first the rest of the team doesn't understand, Gai even thinks it's a threat at first, but then Kakashi catches on and nods and goes like "What a terrible destiny that little boy has ran into. The woods are not an easy place to survive after all"

And basically they decide to tell the Hokage that they found Neji's body, even if it's not at all true. Tenzo is not completely convinced that the Hokage will believe them but both Kakashi and Shisui have such a poker face that there's no problem at all, and Itachi goes with it because if he can kill a boy less then he's okay with it

They also have the perfect reason as to why they couldn't bring Neji's eyes back to the clan: when a Hyuuga with the caged bird seal dies their Byakugan is sealed away, so that it can't be stolen

Gai didn't really expect such a decision from Kakashi, since Kakashi was the Captain and no matter what Shisui would have said, if Kakashi told them to kill Gai and bring Neji back they would have done so, but he's glad that it played out that way, Gai is also glad to know that Kakashi's ANBU team has good people in it

Kakashi also make’s sure to order Shisui and Tenzo that if they are found out, he take’s the blame. Even if it was Shisui’s idea, he’s the captain and he decided to follow through with it. So rather than all of them going down, it’ll just be him. They’ll be the one’s who followed his orders and if someone asks them straight up if he lied, they’re to tell the truth to try and save themselves (they don’t, but he tries)

Gai’s very happy to see that Kakashi has good people on his side. Not just people who understand when the right thing is not to follow orders, but people who clearly have Kakashi’s back.

But also, Imagine Kakashi and Gai just standing there staring at each other, amd Kakashi having to struggle with what he has to do. Fight someone he cares for deeply and protect Konoha, or let go of Neji and risk being labelled a failure like his father. There’s no way that’s an easy choice for Kakashi. It burns him deep inside of his soul for years.

But Neji recognizes him and Tenzo when he’s older.

He knows the men who helped him to escape the abuses of his clan and stay where he felt safe and loved, and he’s somehow not at all surprised to find out Kakashi and His Sensei/guardian Gai have a much deeper connection than juat that one run in.

Kakashi also does make sure to bring back a piece of Neji’s clothing, as well as some hair as ‘proof of death’. The rest of neji, he lies and says they burned and buried.

Wheb Hiashi gets on Kakashi’s ass about it, he has to bite back a comment about his treatment of neji. However, he does comment on Hiashi’s inability to keep his own clan safe.

Team Ro arn’t the one’s that failed Neji.

Hiashi is, and Kakashi will make sure he remmembers that

Can I just say as someone who is regularly made self conscious about his writing because of bullshit tumblr posts who criticize every little choice made for stories:

If you aren't making an uwu coffee shop AU, it's fine to have conflict, and especially death of characters. Like I know tumblr is on this kick like IF YOU KILL YOUR CHARACTERS YOU ARE PROBLEMATIC but like. No you're not?

Like sure, sometimes it's very tasteless. This is in no way defending meaningless deaths (we don't support "bury your gays" in this house, thank you), but there's something you have to remember:

None of this is real

The character is not you or someone you know personally

Characters in a sense are more or less literal plot devices

What this means is that you can't get worked up every time a character you like dies.

When a mentor dies, it's meant to be a passing of the torch and a moment for the mc to overcome emotionally and show they will carry their spirit. Case in point: Peter Parker in Into the Spiderverse, Jiraiya in Naruto, etc

When a parent dies, it's meant to be a moment that forces the character to grow up, overcome adversity, meant to test their resolve, meant to show their love for their child and just how far they are willing to go for them. Minato and Kushina, James and Lilly Potter, etc

When a friend or rival dies, its supposed to test their resolve. Do they give into despair? Or do they avenge their friend's honor or do what needs to be done? Caesar Zeppeli and Joseph Joestar, Naruto and Neji, Maes Hughs, etc

Sometimes it's just to show how terrifying or fucked up the villain is. Seriously, Maes Hughs is a huge example of this.

Sometimes its redemption for a character that has done terrible things. Darth Vader remembering the light side to save Luke is a powerful moment, because in his final moments of clarity he decides to try and atone for some of his sins. Vegeta sacrificing himself to save Gohan from Cell or to obliterate Majin Buu (and fail) is HUGE finally starts a path of redemption for him.

I think it has to be said that especially for stories involving fictional war or survival, there has to be adversity to overcome, sadness or anger to drive the plot forward. There has to be danger, and gonna be real? If everyone lives, there's no sense of danger or a threat. When a character dies, especially a beloved one, it means shit is getting real, people can actually die, this isn't an UWU COFFEE SHOP EVERYONE LIVES au. It means holy shit, if this guy is dead, shit is real.

And yes. Its supposed to hurt. You cannot say it's bad writing just because it's a character you got too attached to or because you missed obvious death flags. That character was most likely always planned to die as a means of helping drive the plot forward. If it hurts, then that's good! That means they weren't a shallow character and something was done to make them stand out!

If a character sacrifices themself, that's not a middle finger to you specifically. It's an act of love for the people the character cares for. If they revive, then great, it was a close call, but if they don't, there's finality to their act of love. In their final moment, they chose their friend, child, lover, pupil, comrade, whatever, and it's a sad but noble decision.

Now sure, senseless death doesn't make sense. Attack on Titan is boring as shit because it's always randos that get destroyed to bloody bits. When there's no death flags at all to warn you, then yes, that's bullshit and done for dramatic effect, often times just to incite reaction from the audience because the writers or producers are bored. And yeah, I'm not going to say I'm particularly happy seeing pets die.

But honestly there's good uses of death, and to just outright label it all as bad is childish if not boring. Risk, adversity, sadness- its sometimes necessary to drive home the sweet reward of a happy ending. Like if you prefer happy shows with little to no risk, that's perfectly fine and I'm not faulting you for it, but at a certain point some of y'all have to stop taking the writing so personally.

Its important to keep it for multiple reasons tbh. Like it or not, the people we love and care for will not be around forever. A lot of people especially need to see the surviving character associated with the dead character grieve and find the strength to move on. It isn't just a senseless act when there's a lesson that can be taught to the viewer, and sometimes it's a hard damn pill to swallow. However it is necessary because it's an unavoidable fact of life. Not only does it give the viewer sort of a reference for how to deal with the grief (often times the best thing is to see the character stand back up and move on), but it really reminds you to treasure those you love. There's a reason it's so prevalent in storytelling since... well, caveman times. Shakespeare used it, Homer used it, Stan Lee used it- it's not something that needs to be banned, regardless of how you feel about it.

Again, if it happens to characters that happen to represent a minority or group, yeah, that's bad, feel free to criticize that choice when it's been done time and time before and especially if it seems like those particular writers target very specific people.

But other than that, y'all seriously gotta just let people write what they want. You can have your Everyone Lives tm AU's or your comfy shows where nothing bad ever happens, that is perfectly fine and valid, but something like FMA wouldn't have NEARLY the depth it does without the deaths or chances of death of particular characters to drive plot or motivate the characters. Peter Parker or Batman wouldn't be half the heroes they were without the stinging reminder of Uncle Ben or Bruce's Parents to remind them what they fight for. Naruto becoming Hokage wouldn't be possible without Jiraiya's death to push him and force him to surpass the legendary Sanin. Trunks wouldn't have gone super saiyan without Gohan dying- permanently mind you- which would lead to him surpassing THAT Gohan, his own father Vegeta, and come back to the future to stop the androids, his version of Buu, and eventually Zamasu. Fuckin Luke Skywalker couldn't have become a Jedi Master without the deaths of Obi Wan or Yoda to really force him to man up into his destiny.

Warnings: miscarriage mention, suppressant abuse. 

Finding out:

He’s been taking a pregnancy test every month for 18 months by this point, and nothing.

You have been telling him that he may have to start thinking about what he wants to do if he can’t have pups.

Neji knows whose fault it is that he can’t conceive.

He struggles to walk through the Hyuuga compound sometimes, knowing it’s their fault that he’s like this. That he’s broken.

You deny any such things, but he knows he is. And he’s very bitter and upset about it.

But he won’t give up yet.

2 years. That was the time frame he had given himself. If he couldn’t conceive within two years, then… Well, he didn’t want to think about that.

One morning when he doesn’t have a mission, he gets up and heads to the bathroom, taking the test automatically.

The feelings of hope and anxiety have long since faded after too many disappointments.

So, he grabs the test, gives it a cursory glance and goes to throw it in the bin before he realises what the test says.

He lifts the test back up, hand shaking. He doesn’t want to get his hopes up, but he could have sworn it said…

Positive.

He’s holding a positive pregnancy test.

His heart is beating very fast now. Neji just stands there for a few moments, unsure what to do.

He ends up taking all the pregnancy tests in the bathroom, seven in total.

And all of them are positive.

He won’t ever admit it, but he did cry a little (a lot).

But quickly the joy begins to fade, and fear sets in.

He needs to be so careful.

He can’t lose this baby, he just can’t.

He needs to stop taking missions, he needs to eat better, he needs to go to the hospital-

He works himself into a little panic, and then panics more because he is so scared the stress will make his lose his baby.

At this point, he’s been in the bathroom for like half an hour, so you tentatively knock and ask if he’s okay.

Neji was clutching the sink in the bathroom, staring at his reflection in the mirror and desperately trying to calm down. He needed to calm down, but he just couldn’t. He distantly realised that he was letting out quiet panicked whines, calling for you to help him automatically.

And then he heard a knock on the door, you were here. He let out a louder whine to try and signal to you that he needed you there with him.

“Neji?” your voice was a little alarmed, you must have heard his whining. “Neji, what’s wrong? Can I come in?”

He heard the door handle shake as you tried to open it against the lock.

“Neji, please, open the door.”

“I’m pregnant.” He blurted.

The door handle stopped moving. He waited anxiously for you to say something, still struggling under the weight of the anxiety clawing at his chest.

“…Are you sure?”

“Yeah,” he swallowed heavily. “I took all the tests.”

“Let me in please, my love.”

This time, Neji follows your request automatically. The lock clicks open, and you immediately step in. Neji can feel your eyes scanning him before they flit over to the abundance of pregnancy tests lying innocently in the sink.

A smile slowly creeps its way onto your face.

“Oh, baby boy, come here,” you opened you arms for him and he immediately stepped into the embrace. His heart was finally starting to calm down, as he took deep breaths of your scent. He was safe, he didn’t have to worry, you would be here to make sure everything was alright.

“We’ll go down to the hospital tomorrow, alright? Get everything checked out, but I don’t…” you hesitated.

“You don’t what?” He knew what you were going to say. ‘I don’t want you to get your hopes up.’

You shook your head. “Nevermind, let’s just book the appointment. Would you rather go to the hospital or see one of the clan medics?”

Neji grimaced. “Hospital. I know it’s weird, but… I don’t want them to know yet.”

You rubbed a hand on his lower back. “We won’t tell anyone until you’re ready, I promise.”

 Pregnancy:

The hospital visit went as well as you could have hoped.

Neji was indeed pregnant, and everything was progressing well for the moment.

But, of course, there were some concerns.

Neji was given a gentle reminder that he was at a high risk for a miscarriage.

He was also told that a traditional birth would be too risky for him, and that he would have to have a c-section.

And, while the mednin couldn’t be sure yet, it was unlikely that he would be able to breastfeed.

Neji took all the information with a detached nod, acknowledging what was being said, but not reacting to it.

As a Hyuuga, he kept his emotions firmly pressed down in public. His scent and face were completely normal. Few would have been able to tell that something was wrong.

But the second he stepped into your house, he just sagged.

He claimed to be tired and went to lay down upstairs. You let him go, knowing that he wanted his own space to process,

But it was hard to smell his sour scent and not come running.

Things got better, however.

Once he was past three months, the chances of a miscarriage reduced hugely, and Neji was much happier.

He threw everything he could into looking after himself and preparing for the pup.

He stopped taking missions as soon as he found out he was pregnant and started to babyproof the house and make the nursery.

The nursery was very traditional. A rocking chair, a wooden crib, handmade blankets and toys.

It was beautiful and Neji was very protective of it. He wanted it to be perfect.

He was protective over the pup in general, as well.

He didn’t let anyone other than you put their hands on his tummy.

As far as the physical pregnancy, Neji had some troubles, but he pushed his way through them with no complaints.

He was most infuriated by his constant need to go to the toilet.

Pain he could deal with, but the constant inconvenience started to grind on his nerves.

He was also a little restless when he was left by himself. Without missions or training he didn’t know what to do with himself a lot of the time.

When you were home with him, he was fine, but he got bored by himself.

“No.”

You sighed, “Again? We’ve been shopping for hours, Neji.”

“Do you want to buy poor-quality blankets for our pup?” he huffed, placing another rejected blanket onto the shelf.

“What about this one?” you suggested, holding up a lovely, soft blanket.

Neji squinted at him, pulling the tag towards him to read. He pulled a face a dropped the blanket.

“No.”

“What’s wrong this time?”

“It’s part polyester. I don’t want polyester in the blankets and toys, I already told you this. Let’s try the next shop.”

You grimaced, feet already sore from all the walking. “Why don’t we just get some blankets and toys commissioned? We can afford it, and then they would be exactly what you want.”

Neji stopped, contemplative. “That’s… actually a good idea.”

“Well, you don’t have to sound so shocked.”

Yes,” Neji smiled, ignoring your complaints. “I want to do that. Let’s head to the stationary shop so I can get some materials to draw up some sketches.”

“The stationary shop?” you whined. “Can’t we just go home for today?”

“No, if I’m pregnant and I can do it, so can you.”

 Labour:

With a pre-planned c-section, Neji knew in advance when he would be going to the hospital for the procedure.

He had packed and re-packed his bag four times, just to be sure that he had everything he needed.

Neji was very calm, but it seemed to be because of the shock more than anything else.

He was escorted in, and prepared for the procedure, and exactly on time, he went in for his c-section.

You sat with him, only able to see him head as the rest of him was sectioned off with a screen. You were told not to stand until you had the signal.

You gently stroked Neji’s hair away from his face as the mednin worked. He was drowsy and disoriented. He blinked at you slowly.

“Is… everything going okay?” he whispered to you.

“I think so, baby. How are you feeling?”

“I feel strange…”

“I bet you do,” you laughed gently, pressing a kiss to his head. “Just try to relax, okay? I’m right here with you.”

The operation was exhausting, and Neji ended up being unable to do much for two months while he recovered, but the pup was healthy and Neji couldn’t be happier.

He spent hours every day in the rocking chair in the nursery cradling his pup.

Neji didn’t let anyone outside of you and some mednin meet the pup until she was three months old because he was so protective.

Neji would never be so tacky as to refer to his child as a ‘miracle child’, but sometimes, he can’t help but think it.

Clan Swap Au! Hinata, renamed Nenza for reasons now lost to me but I'm rolling with it anyway.

Nenza isn't so much a shy, gloomy girl as she is a simply quiet and disinterested in seemingly everything. But she has gears constantly grinding in her head. Instead of being Swaped out into a different clan, Nenza is part of the Hyuuga Clan Branch Family. When it comes to Shino and Kiba on the regular, they will do their thing and start to bicker. But if they bicker for too long, Nenza will shoot them a look, and that's all the warning they need to stop lol They grow to care for one another, this absolute team of misfits.

Her father Hiashi marked a new Branch after his Twin Brother Hizashi was dubbed the Heir Apparent. Hizashi's son, Hinote(Neji) has always been a thorn in Nenza's side as long as she could remember. She straight up despises his ass, because he's simply just blind/naive to a lot of things. He acts like he cares for her and has always offered his friendship, despite Nenza constantly rejecting him for a multitude of reasons. He wants to "look out for her" and "knows she's a soft person deep down" but that's what pisses her off the most because he doesn't realize his current form of concern simply adds insult to injury. Hinote is privileged and pampered and talented and the ideal Hyuuga Shinobi and Nenza is seen as the "Other" because of who her father was. But still, he is genuinely concerned and it's horribly frustrating knowing he has good intent because he has never reached out in a way that actually addresses the HUGE elephant in the room. Nenza knows she's not as strong as he is, and she never wanted to be a Shinobi, she was forced into it mainly by Grandpa Hyuuga. But after so much heartache and abuse, she now trains her absolute hardest out of pure spite. She's suppose to be Hinote's bodyguard, but what's the use of a bodyguard that the charge can easily defeat? Hinote becomes the sole focus of her goals, but it's obviously an unhealthy fixation. Normally, she does what she needs to do and she does it efficiently and anyone who mistakes her calm and quiet demeanor for weakness and passivity is going to *definitely* die, assuming it's allowed. No one would know that she's actually like two centimeters close to having a complete breakdown at all times, but I like to think the truth does come out and she gets especially raw and exposes her absolute disdain for Hinote during the first round of the final part of their first chuunin exam that later is revealed by Hinote himself to Naruto to be about the workings of the Hyuuga Clan.
