Can I request headcanons about class 1A getting an American transfer who, upon being told everyone's names, gets a little overwhelmed and shortens most of them down to help them remember better and how they react to the nicknames?  People with shorter names like Iida and Mina, etc dont need them but people like Kirishima and such are harder for them to remember.  Learning 20+ names at once can be difficult...

Hey friend! When I was reading this scenario, it’s honestly so easy to relate. Anytime you go to a new place, it’s so difficult to learn all the new names that go with it! Because of that, I really enjoyed doing this one. Plus, it was fun to think of what everyone’s reaction would be to getting a nickname and not having an honorific attached to their name. I like this one a lot, hope you do too. Enjoy!

Transfer!Reader + Nicknames

Moving to a new place can be difficult for anyone, no matter the circumstances. Having to move to a new place and learn everybody’s names all in one go is even worse. Especially when names don’t quite work the same as in American.

To make it a little easier on yourself, you just went ahead and started referring to people by their first names if they were easier than their last or just shortening their last name if it wasn’t. The whole honorific system is confusing to you too, so those all got dropped.

Mina, Tsuyu, and Tooru were all super easy. You went straight to using their first names and all three girls loved it. Mina and Tooru declared that you were now their friend, whether you realized it or not, particularly ecstatic at a fresh face in the class. Tsuyu also appreciated you using her first name because she usually told people to start calling her by it anyway.

Momo had been more shocked at the sudden first-name basis. You ended up having to explain to her multiple times that her last name was the hardest to remember and pronounce, not that you were just being impolite. After a few weeks of it, she actually started to enjoy being referred to by her first name. The rest of the class addressed her very formally, so it felt nice.

Jirou, Satou, Sero, and Kouda had been completely unfazed because you simply called them by their last names. They had easy-to-pronounce, easy-to-remember names. Kouda had been a little thrown off when you automatically didn’t use honorifics, but the others didn’t seem to care.

Shoto, Tenya, and Yuga had all been surprised at the use of their first names, but with three drastically different reactions to it. Shoto had gone all red in the face, stammeringly trying to correct you, but failing terribly. After a few tries of correcting you, he eventually gave up and just let himself be embarrassed by the informality. Tenya had gotten really loud about it. He started up on a whole lecture about polite speech and the proper way to address acquaintances, the whole nine. You, obviously, opted to ignore it but he still scolded you for a few days. Yuga had started to rant about how you were probably in love with him because “of course you are, I am a glittering diamond among piles of coal.” It was a lot.

You referred to Ojiro as Oji and for months afterwards, the rest of the class insisted upon calling him Uncle (Oji-san). You were pretty confused by it, but it made everyone like you more, so you were happy nonetheless. Ojiro was a little aggravated with you for creating such a weird trend, though.

You referred to Shoji as Sho (Shoji wasn’t super hard to remember, pronounce, or anything, you just enjoyed calling him Sho). Again, the rest of the class had gotten a kick out of it because Sho felt like such a cutesy name and Shoji was anything but. He kind of liked it himself.

Denki had practically tackled you when you called him by his first name. He was way too excited about it. He went into full flirt mode instantly, determining that anybody who goes straight to using first names must also be a flirty person. He just wants a date.

You overheard Bakugou call Midoriya “Deku” and Midoriya call Bakugou “Kacchan.” You ended up picking up the nicknames because they were easy to say. Midoriya didn’t really mind because it was his hero name and Ochako called him that anyway. Bakugou, on the other hand, had blown a hole through the ceiling (literally. A desk from the next floor up came crashing down). He was incredibly angry that anyone would ever call him by that nickname. He already hated that Midoriya did it, but adding another person who didn’t even know him really pissed him off. He bitched at you for weeks for you to stop calling him that.

Tokoyami had been changed to Fumi (from Fumikage). He was another one who was not really pleased with his new nickname. It’s a female Japanese name, so it made him slightly uncomfortable for his name to be shortened that way. It also didn’t give off the dark, intimidating vibe he was going for. After some thorough convincing, you eventually shifted over to just “Toko,” which he was still displeased with, but let you use anyway.

You rarely interacted with Mineta (he grossed you out), but whenever you did, you called him “Mini” because it sounded like Mine and he was so small. Some of the more studious kids in class (mainly Iida and Momo) would snicker at the name, aware of the English translation.

Kirishima got shorted to Kiri, which he enjoyed. He told you that a lot of kids would call him that way when he was younger, so it made him a little nostalgic. Plus, he just liked that the new kid was addressing him in a friendly manner. He always liked interacting with everyone in the class, so he was happy to include you too!

Ochako had by far the weirdest name and the hardest for you to remember. You had an absolutely terrible time trying to pronounce “Uraraka” without sounding like an idiot and Ochako didn’t sound enough like a name (at least American names) for you to remember it. After awhile of struggling (which made her kind of sad because you would always have to be reminded of her name), she eventually told you about the “-chan” ending that used to be cute. You decided to shorten her name and just call her “Occhan” after that, finally able to remember. She thought it was adorable and started to use a nickname with you to reciprocate.
