[Wiccans] are the arbiters of their own ethics; they have the responsibility and the power to choose their actions based on their own ideals rather than on rules imposed by someone else. . .Wicca is not about being comfortable all the time. It is about directing the course of your own life." - Thea Sabin, Wicca for Beginners

People can, of course, go from Wicca to some form of Satanic spirituality, but William "Bill" Schnoebelen claimed that Wicca was actually created to recruit naive spiritual seekers and gradually indoctrinate them into the beliefs of a worldwide Satanic conspiracy.
In Wicca: Satan's Little White Lie, he tries to present himself as an innocent man seduced into dark powers, but the way he actually talks about himself, it sounds more like he just wanted power and would go along with pretty much anything so long as it seemed to offer more power.
So now he's claiming that Wiccans who desired "more wisdom" would be taught that the Horned God was actually Lucifer, and from there be led into LaVeyan Satanism, and from there, be led into "hardcore" satanism; IE, conspiracy theory satanism.
He claims that:
The man who was my immediate superior was a strange, but powerful satanist from Chicago with all sorts of connections in politics and industry. I was amazed at the people of power I would meet at the sabbats.
I figured I had it made and my ship was finally coming in. I signed a pact in my own blood with Satan. He received complete control of my body and soul. In return, I got seven years of whatever I desired: money, sex, drugs or power! It could all be mine!
Familiar fairy tale trope is familiar, lol
Then, Schnoebelen claims that he'd sent a check in to the Church of Satan, and it came back with the words "I'll be praying for you in Jesus's name" written on it. And apparently he knows it's a woman's handwriting because it was "delicate and feminine."
And then he claims:
Within days, things began to happen. I lost my job, my wife got sick, I got sick, and my satanic mentor, so powerful and self-assured, got in a serious truck accident and ended up in the hospital with grievous abdominal injuries. His previously limitless supply of money from California dried up, and I was effectively cut off from all my powerful new contacts.
I'm sorry... what? That's... that's awfully vicious behavior for the deity who's supposed to have the moral high ground, my dude. Are you saying that all this lady did was pray for you, and God just chose violence?
Later, Schnoebelen claims:
Much of my personal story as contained in chapter one is radically different from the current public relations image being promoted in the media by witches and Neo-Pagans.
Like the PR material for any deceptive religious cult, they wish to present as positive an image as possible. They deal in non-issues rather than the central points which really matter in an eternal perspective.
Goddamnit, this is another one of those things where the Christians act offended because the people who aren't Christian don't subscribe to the whole "you need a savior to save you from your sins" thing, isn't it?
Anyway, Schnoebelen quotes Laurie Cabot's list of Witches' Do's and Don'ts, and proceeds to gripe and complain that witches aren't actually morally pure as all that.
Again, we're dealing with a relatively new spiritual movement where people are bound to make idealistic statements that won't hold up upon meeting the complexity of the real world, or that people just won't always live up to because people aren't perfect. And quite frankly, Christianity is no different; y'all have your high-minded ideals, but in the day-to-day you make a lot of concessions and compromises. And you have to, because your survival depends on it. You can't always give your boss your "honest opinion," and it's not prudent to give away everything you own.
What about magic? As I mentioned in my own story, the ethics get a bit nebulous when you decide if you’re going to heal someone without their permission, or do a love spell on a person without their knowledge. You see, this is all so vague it is meaningless. Suppose you have a relative with Alzheimer’s disease. Would it be alright to put a spell on him to kill him and “put him out of his misery?”
Some witches would say yes, others would say no. To whom do we turn to settle these things? In some older witch traditions, being a homosexual was a “no-no,” yet other newer witch groups celebrate “gayness.” Did they get a direct line from the “Universal Law” to change the rules? Is it alright to cheat on your “lady?” If she doesn’t know, she isn’t harmed, is she? You see how misguided and useless this kind of ethical system is? It allows for all manner of exploitation and evil, and believe me - I knew some awfully selfish and exploitative “Wiccans” in my day. One of them stole my high priestess’ wedding and engagement rings!
Man, if only there were people who ask these hard questions and search for ways to deal with these issues without appealing to a higher authority... if only people had been interested in wrangling such things since ancient times... if only there were such things as philosophers and ethicists... if only...
By the way, Bill, if Christians are supposed to be all loving and harmless, is it correct to pray for someone knowing that your god might likely inflict violence on them? Is that really any better or different than straight-up siccing a violent demon on them?
And then Bill claims this about the Threefold Law:
For example, if you perceive that someone has injured you in some fashion, either magically or physically, you have the “right” by Witch Law to hurt him three times worse. What often happens is that witches are injured in some real or imagined way and believe they have the right to hex the offending person three times worse!
This is literally not what the Threefold Law is about. The Threefold Law is one of those kinda culturally Christian "what goes around, comes around" kind of deals. Retaliation isn't supposed to be necessary because the universe will supposedly hurt the original dickbag three times worse.
He claims that a young woman stole the HP's jewelry, and the HP "invoked the law of three" and supposedly, the young woman fell down a stairs and was paralyzed from the neck down:
We did not curse her and say, “Goddess, make her fall down a flight of stairs and be paralyzed.” We just invoked this “Law” upon her. To end up a paralytic for life for ripping off jewelry is a bit severe. This was done when I believed I was a “white” witch and would never have considered cursing someone or seeking power from the devil.
Dude... may I remind you of what you claimed happened when Bank Lady prayed to Jesus? Literally how are Christians any better, in your reckoning?
Schnoebelen claims that magical fights will inevitably escalate and may I remind you, Schnoebelen, that Evangelical Christians see themselves as being in the middle of a spiritual war, waged against everyone who isn't like them. You, Schnoebelen, apparently believe it's justified for Christians to pray to Jesus to inflict violence on anyone who isn't a Christian. The crowd you're appealing to prays for horrible things to happen to everyone they've made their enemies every day. The crowd you're appealing to thought AIDS was God's punishment on the gays.
You don't have the moral ground you want everyone to think you have.

john described absolute lithops effect as a less melancholy predecessor to in memory of satan which i think is interesting. lyrics and some notes+quotes under the cut
absolute lithops effect
After one long season of waiting After one long season of wanting I am breaking open My insides are pink and raw And it hurts me when I move my jaw But I am taking tiny steps forward And I feel sure that my wounds will heal And I will bloom here in my room With a little water and a little bit of sunlight And a little bit of tender mercy, tender mercy The big trucks come up the highway And the big wheels rattle my windows And night, night comes to Texas After one blind season alone in here After one long, sweltering summer I'm going to find to exit And I will go to the house of a friend I know And I will let myself forget With a little water and a little bit of sunlight And a little bit of tender mercy, tender mercy
in memory of satan
Got my paintbox out last night Stayed up late and wrecked this place Woke up on the floor again Cellphone stuck to the side of my face Dead space on the other end Perfect howl of emptiness Cast my gaze around the room Someone needs to clean up this mess Tape up the windows Call in a favor from an old friend Make some scratches on my floor Crawl down on my hands and knees In old movies people scream Choking on their fists when they see shadows like these But no one screams cuz it's just me Locked up in myself Never gonna get free Something sacred, something blue Cannons in the harbor dawn I crawled down here to dig for bones One more season then I'm gone Black drapes over the crosses Call in a favor from an old friend
a lithops is a stone plant, yknow the little succulents that look like rocks, and "split" in the middle from which they bloom.
ALE quotes:
This is a song about sitting alone in a room waiting for something to happen. A subject that's most insufficiently addressed by pop music. You know, because not everybody really is going to find the one they love, but everybody is going to spend some time alone in a room waiting for something to happen
I'm of the belief that there are only so many themes for songs, and you can do a number of different -- dressing up of the things that you tend to obsess about, but I think most songwriters have a few things they tend to obsess about. I have recurring images and phrases, right.... But one of mine, uh, which is not surprising to me when I think about it, is, um, is emerging from some place, uh, after a long period of, uh, of waiting to emerge, right, for whatever reason, right, whether, you know -- some, some people in my songs who are emerging, it's because they were too wounded to come out, and some feel like they can't come out. And I don't know if this is the first, uh, occurrence of that, but I noticed it's like a predecessor to In Memory of Satan, which is sort of, uh, I think the more melancholy version of this one, which is called 'Absolute Lithops Effect'
IMoS quotes:
Everyone has spent those years, or maybe entire seasons, indoors where you don't really leave. That's when you go into the inner realms of the spirit. This guy's in hiding, and it's this most spiritual realm. That old saying holds here, that you can't be in a cave unless there's an exit, or else it's a grave
Short version is it's about how you have to worship the devil sometimes. It's not that song. Different kind of worship, same kind of devil. It's about the evil things inside you that you have to learn to celebrate and live with and think of as a part of the whole that makes up you instead of rejecting them because you won't be able to shake them and sometimes they will need to be, as we say in our Wiccan circles, honored. And I frequent several Wiccan circles. My dancing is celebrated at them
and my favorite:
Now this is a song about how, when things are going very badly for you, like really badly for you in your personal life, not in your relationships – that’s part of it, but it’s all rolled into one, because things are bad in your head, and in your heart, and in your body, and everywhere. Bad, terrible. And you reach this point of stasis with it, and then it begins to feel like progress. It’s not like you’re getting better, but you’re getting better at not being well. [audience laughs] It’s funny now, right? At the time, it’s maybe less funny. At the time, it feels more like demon possession, but it feels like the moment of demon possession where you go, “Man, if I’m gonna be possessed by a demon, then fuck it. Let’s just demonically possess this world. Let’s just do the things we demon-possessed people do. If people can’t handle my possessed self, that’s between them and whatever god they worship, but as for me, in my house, we shall worship the devil.” [audience cheers] But this is the thing I’m always trying to point out. We say “woo!” about that, but the devil I’m talking about is not the devil you actually like, it’s not the devil of whiskey and smokes or whatever. It’s the devil who stands between you and the things you hoped to become. The devil who stands between you and your better self. The one with whom you form an allegiance at some point in your life, because you can’t escape him any other way. And then later, you recall this time with great trembling. And this is called “In Memory of Satan.”

Divination | Ouija
[Or as I keep calling it and being teased for it Luigi board] [Source] [Take this with a grain of salt- Ouija isn't my thing]
A controversial tool, a flat board with letters/alphabet along with the words yes or no alongside a planchette, heart shaped with an eye in the centre.. Quoted as “A board that is both pure and evil.” Created several lawsuits by the Library of Congress. A supernatural tool to commune with the dead.
Tumblr media
[Personally the board gives me the wiggies, I know people think a pendulum is the same thing. But I just think requesting the help of a friend or some spirit is different than going knees deep into dead spirits and other things. Idk I just think its different]
So. give respect. Never ask how they died. Always say goodbye. NEVER finish until they say Goodbye [although its said its leaving it open, and some say it's to be polite and close the connection its okay if they don't say goodbye…I’d rather be safe than sorry]
If the Planchette leaves the board? Burn the board. Never leave the Planchette on the board keeping the connection open for the possible spirit to leave the board.
Watch out for zozo. Or creating a figure eight. Treat it as a board game and keep calm dont bring in anxiety, or any depressive energy or thoughts.
Seven Subtitues For a Ouija Board [Source]
As a substitue You can use a Coin. A washer coin. A poker Chip. Upside down shotglass. [More info Below] Make a wood plachette etc. More info in the Link Above.
[Personally I do respect the craft/believe in ghosts and spirits a little. But sometimes its weird that ALL ghost story/sightings happen in America and possessions specifically happen in spain/mexico. Given that other countries dont have footage like in the UK for ghost sightings [we have OLD as fuck buildings older than america at least] so yeah sometimes it feels a bit huey.]
So the dangers of Ouji board?
This is the recent article for 2023. “28 girls hospitalised with anxiety. All fainted after a ouija board had gone wrong.” Posted March 7. 2023. [Source]
But luckily an exorcist police officer CLAIMS girls opened a Doorway to- […A police officer just HAPPENS to be an exorcist? What are the odds thank god an exorcist who happens to be an OFFICER was THERE at the same time! wow thank god *sarcasm*]
“One mother complained: “I work here in a hospital kiosk and every day I see three or four children arrive after fainting.”
So kids fainting is a regular thing? Is there some health/environmental issues and they're using an occult board to cover it up. Sounds like confirmation bias and fear mongering for christian loving cultists to prove that wiccan/occult are devil worshipping sinners oh joy. Or Group psychosis, look I love Wicca but I don’t believe in that supernatural shit, I honestly doubt it was a wooden board that caused that and instead was teens being dramatic or the school has some issues and want to hide the responsibility. Oh 36 now [Source]

Seance
Tumblr media
[Source Image: The Dreaming Queeniechan Manga]
A Cup Seance. A meeting. Typically with a medium or other spiritualists in which people intend to communicate with the dead.
The rituals of the seance and the medium are opening up insights into the mind, shedding light on the power of suggestion and even questioning the nature of free will.
How to perform a Seance
A ceremony to contact the dead.
To perform this ritual you will need six candles, white and purple in colour and a white cloth. In Addition you will need to sweeten the air by burning cinnamon frankincense and sandals wood. As the fire burns, concentrate on contacting the spirit and chant the spell that follows. If you know the mortal name of the deceased, adjust the chant accordingly.
Beloved unknown spirit, we seek your guidance. We ask that you commune with us and move along us.
[Humanity has been attempting to commune with the dead since ancient times. As far back as Leviticus, the Old Testament God actively forbade people to seek out mediums. Interest peaked in the 19th century, a time when religion and rationality were clashing like never before. In an era of unprecedented scientific discovery, some churchgoers began to seek evidence for their beliefs.

Table Tipping
Tumblr media
Table tipping, or turning has gone out of fashion but is easy to replicate for four or more people, a small table. Or aka Ouji Boards Big Brother.
dim lights and a relaxed atmosphere. The group places hands on the table and wait. After 40 minutes or so the table should start to move. It soon appears to have a mind of its own, sliding, swaying and even pinning people to the walls.
The reason why household furniture can appear to be possessed was exposed more than 160 years ago by Michael Faraday, the discoverer of the link between magnetism and electricity. In 1852 Faraday was fascinated by the new craze of table tipping – and whether people or spirits were responsible. So he took bundles of cardboard roughly the size of a table top and glued them weakly together. Each sheet got progressively smaller from top to bottom, allowing Faraday to mark their original positions on the card above with a pencil. He then placed the cards on a table and asked volunteers to put their hands on the cards and let the spirits move the table to the left.
If it was spirits, the table top would slide out the cards from the bottom up. But if the participants were doing it, the top cards would be the first to move. By examining the position of the pencil marks Faraday showed that people, not spirits, moved the table.
A youtuber created a video on how to summon a Spirit into a bottle:

The Last Twenty-Four Hours (BtVS)
So this is one of my old Buffyverse fic, posted to AO3 with some formatting changes and minor edits. The parts in italics are direct quotes from the show (there's a list of which episodes in the authors notes on AO3). It's an apocalypse fic, of the non-demonic variety, and shows how everyone copes. Enjoy!
The Last Twenty-Four Hours - There are twenty-four hours left before Sunnydale's destroyed and no one can stop it.
READ @ AO3
"It's all over then, isn't it?" Buffy asked, over the muffled sobs of Willow and Tara.
Giles nodded. "I'm afraid it is. There is nothing you can do."
"But I'm the slayer, it's what I do!"
"This isn't a demon, Buffy. I'm afraid this is quite out of your hands." Giles took off his glasses, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "The comet is to hit in Nepal. That won't make much of a difference to us. But the earthquake that is to hit only moments later will. It will start in San Francisco and travel down the San Andreas fault, breaking California into parts and causing massive tidal waves."
"So those lucky enough to survive the earthquake might not have a chance at all?" Xander asked.
"I'm afraid so. We have twenty-four hours everyone. That is all." Giles sat down on his couch. "I suggest you use the time wisely."
*** 5 PM ***
Buffy packed bags for Dawn and her mother. After telling them what was happening, they felt the need to leave. Dawn was still the Key, and nothing could help that. She tried hard not to cry...there really was no safe place in California, but Giles said New York should be okay. Amazingly, no one else was planning on leaving. They had all known they were going to die one way or another.
The only other person going with them was Spike. Good old Spike...he'd volunteered. Even he seemed afraid to stay. said all the demons were hightailing it out of California. And that meant he knew Joyce and Dawn might not be safe, so he said he'd go. He had no idea what this meant to her, even after the horrible way she'd treated him after he admitted he loved her. She needed to show him.
She had to.
*** 6 PM ***
Anya lay in bed, waiting for Xander. They were both fully clothed, which was unusual for them. "Have you called Cordelia?"
He nodded, sitting next to her. "Yeah. She and I spent a half hour apologizing. She told everyone except Angel."
"Why didn't she tell Angel?"
"He's in New York, hunting a demon there. It was important. She's sure he'll be safe there. She told me...she hoped I had been happy." He took one of Anya's hands in his. "I've been very happy, with you. Have I ever told you that?"
"No, not really."
"I'm the happiest I've ever been, Anya. If there was time, I'd marry you."
"Marry me?" she said in a shocked voice. Then she looked at the clock "Come on."
*** 7 PM ***
Willow and Tara stood, beaming, as the Justice of the Peace asked if anyone objected. Both of them shook their heads. "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride," he said, looking at Xander and Anya, who were already doing just that.
"Congratulations!" the two women chorusedd, sharing hugs. Anya was crying, Willow was crying, Tara was crying...even Xander was leaking a few tears.
"I just wish you two..." Xander began, but Willow shook her head.
"We've already done a Wiccan bonding ceremony. That's enough," Willow said as Tara nodded. "Besides, you two...we knew it would happen eventually." She then looked at the two of them. "And here's our gift to you. We used my dad's credit card."
Tara handed them two plane tickets. "You two, you get out of here. Live a long life."
Xander looked choked up. "Will, Tara..."
"Just go," Willow said, brushing away a tear. "Go."
*** 8 PM ***
Spike didn't doze. He simply let the small blonde girl sleep in his arms. She'd tried to sleep with him, and just couldn't. He wouldn't have taken advantage of her anyhow. He kissed her forehead lightly. He had dreamed of a moment like this, where she laid in his arms like this, where she breathed in and out softly and slept. He hadn't imagined it would be because the world as they knew it now was going to change drastically.
He knew his sire was in New York. Spike had sent him on a wild goose chase there, knowing that this prophecy was going to happen. All the vampires in Sunnydale knew; he just hoped Angel didn't. And now he was going to do the hardest thing he could think of.
He was going to send Buffy to him.
But for now, he'd let her sleep.
*** 9 PM ***
Xander and Anya looked at their bags. "Should we go?" Anya asked.
"Yes," Xander said. Anya looked ready to argue, but Xander held his hand up. "Willow and Tara would never have given us these tickets if they thought we wouldn't use them. We can have a future together. We can have children and live a life that they can't."
"But I feel...selfish."
Xander nodded wearily. "I do too. But I know them. They'll find a way out of here. I hope."
Anya took his hand in hers, their fingers entwined, two simple gold bands the only new additions to the familiar sight. "They will. Even if I have...to..." She thought for a moment. "I have an idea."
*** 10 PM ***
Giles knew the vampires were gone. He could sit at Jenny's grave in peace. But even if there were vampires, he'd fight them off, get a few more hours of life before the inevitable end. "Jenny. I will be seeing you soon," he said, reaching out to touch her headstone. "I know you wanted me to live for a long time and grow old, and get over my fear of computers. But I won't do that, not now. Now, I will be with you again."
He took a drink of the alcohol he'd brought with him It was a superstition that to drink while sitting on the grave of a person who liked alcohol that you would not get drunk, and he knew for a fact that the person who's grave was next to Jenny's liked to drink. And after drinking half the bottle, Giles felt no different.
Call it a parting gift of some sort.
*** 11 PM ***
The slow sound of Willow's breathing let Tara know she was asleep. It was easy to tell when her lover was asleep. Her chest rose and fell in a steady pattern. Her hair moved not an inch, and her face had a serene look to it. Giving those tickets to Xander and Anya had been so hard for Willow to do. She knew they'd use them, though, not because they wanted to leave them but because they knew that's really what Willow wanted.
And Tara wanted that, too.
She continued to watch Willow sleep, a strange comfort falling over her.
*** 12 AM ***
Buffy woke up, no longer feeling Spike's lean body next to hers. But there was a note and a plane ticket and his duster laid over her carefully. She unfolded the note and read it.
"Slayer, you're needed more than I am. Go with your family to New York, protect Dawn. The world needs a good person, not an evil demon with a chip. The duster is yours, to remember me. The poem on the other page is for Dawn. Go find your soul mate, Angel. He's there. I sent him there."
She traced his simple but elegant handwriting, then pulled the duster on. "Mom! Dawn! We have to go!"
"We?" she heard Dawn mumble. Her bedroom door opened. "Where's Spike?"
Buffy handed Dawn the poem. "He left."
Joyce entered the room. "Buffy, what is it?"
"The plane leaves in two hours. We have to go soon."
"I thought Spike--"
"He told me to go." She opened up her suitcase, throwing in clothing and other things. "And I'm going to do what he says."
*** 1 AM ***
"I think he got the message. He's taken a liking to Willow. He'll help her, I hope."
"How will he help?" Xander asked.
"Take them to his dimension or something. They'll be out of California by the time this hits." She looked at Xander. "The flight leaves in an hour. Should we tell them?"
"We'll tell them when they're in New York with us," Xander said, kissing Anya passionately. "And I know they'll be there."
*** 2 AM ***
"Buffy?" Xander said in surprise.
"Xander! Anya!" Buffy said, just as surprised as Xander had been.
Anya looked at Buffy. "Isn't that Spike's duster? Where is he?"
"Right here." Spike looked at all of them. "Go get on the plane, you two. Need a word with the Slayer."
Xander and Anya moved towards the gate. "Spike, come with us," Buffy said, but Spike shook his head.
"No, Buffy. I can't." He smiled ruefully. "The sunlight, remember?"
"Please," Buffy whispered. "I can't let you die."
"I'm already dead." He placed his hand on her face, wiping away a tear. "There's a spell in the pocket. Use it on Poof Boy. Live a long life with him. Name your first son William." He kissed her forehead. "Thank you for the dance. Now, board your plane and get the hell out of Sunnyhell."
Buffy nodded, picking up her carry-on and heading for the crammed gate, looking back to see Spike one last time.
He was gone.
And in a moment, so was she.
*** 3 AM ***
"Yeah. You know, I kinda had a problem with the math."
"Uh, which part?"
"The math. Can you help me out tonight, pleeeease, be my study buddy?"
"Well, what's in it for me?"
"A shiny nickel!"
"Okay. Do you have 'Theories in Trig'? You should check it out."
"Check it out?"
"From the library? Where the books live."
"Right, I'm there! See, I wanna change..."
*** 4 AM ***
"You're a snob!"
"I am no such thing."
"Oh, you are a big snob. You, you think that knowledge should be kept in these carefully guarded repositories where only a handful of white guys can get at it."
"Nonsense! I simply don't adhere to a, a knee-jerk assumption that because something is new, it's better."
"This isn't a fad, Rupert! We are creating a new society here."
"A society in which human interaction is all but obsolete? In which people can be completely manipulated by technology, well, well... Thank you, I'll pass."
"Well, ahem, I think you'll be very happy here with your musty, old books."
"These musty old books have a great deal more to say than in any of your...fabulous web pages."
"Hmm. This one doesn't have a whole lot more to say."
*** 5 AM ***
"Fe, fi, fo fum. I smell the blood of a nice ripe girl."
"Do we really need weapons for this?"
"I just like them. They make me feel all manly. The last Slayer I killed...she begged for her life. You don't strike me as the begging kind."
"You shouldn'ta come here."
"No. I've messed up your doilies and stuff. But I just got so bored. I'll tell you what. As a personal favor from me to you I'll make it quick. It won't hurt a bit."
"No, Spike. It's gonna hurt a lot."
*** 6 AM ***
"I'd rather be worm food than look at your pathetic face!"
"Then go! I'm not stopping ya!"
"I bet you wouldn't! I bet you'd let a girl go off to her doom all by herself!"
"Not just any girl. You're special."
"I can't believe that I'm stuck spending what will probably be my last few moments on Earth here WITH YOU!"
"I hope these are my last few moments! Three more seconds with you, and I'm gonna..."
"I'm gonna what? Coward!"
"Moron!"
"I hate you!"
"I HATE YOU! We so need to get outta here."
"Mm-hm!"
*** 7 AM ***
"It wasn't haunting me. It was showing me."
"Showing you?"
"What I am."
"Were."
"And ever shall be. I wanted to know why I was back. Now I do."
"You don't know. Some great evil takes credit for bringing you back and you buy it? You just give up?"
"I can't do it again, Buffy. I can't become a killer"
"Then fight it."
"It's too hard."
"Angel, please, you have to get inside."
*** 8 AM ***
"If someone could just wake me when it's time to go to college, that'd be great."
"Guys take a moment to deal with this: we survived."
"It was a hell of a battle!"
"Not the battle. High school. We're taking a moment and we're done."
"Well, school's done."
"It's sooo cool!"
"Why do demons even come here anymore?   I mean, don't they know?"
*** 9 AM ***
"Where is our relationship going?"
"Our what? Our who?"
"Relationship. What kind do we have. And what is it progressing toward?"
"I ... Uh ... We have a relationship?"
"Yeah. We went to the prom."
"Yeah, On our one and only date. Second date called on account of snake, remember? And the whole, you used to be a man-killing demon thing. Which to be fair, is as much my issue as it is yours."
"I can't stop thinking about you. Sometimes in my dreams, you're all naked."
"Really. You know if I'm in the checkout line at the Wal-Mart I've had the same one."
"So I can assume a standing Friday night date and a mutual recognition as Prom night as our dating anniversary."
"Anya. Slow down there. In fact, come to a screeching halt. See these things kind of have to develop on their own."
"Okay. How?"
"I don't know. I just -- happens."
*** 10 AM ***
"No candles? Well, I brought one. It's extra flamey. Tara, I have to tell you..."
"No, I-I understand. You have to be with the person you l-love."
"I am."
"You mean..."
"I mean. Okay?"
"Oh, yes."
"I feel horrible about everything I put you through. A-and I'm gonna make it up to you. Starting right now"
"Right now?"
*** 11 AM ***
"Please! Spike, you're a vampire."
"Angel was a vampire."
"Angel was good!"
"And I can be too. I've changed, Buffy."
"What, that chip in your head? That's not change. Tha-that's just...holding you back. You're like a serial killer in prison!"
"Women marry 'em all the time!"
"Uhh!"
"But I'm not...like that. Something's happening to me. I can't stop thinking about you."
"Uhh."
"And if that means turning my back on the whole evil thing-"
"You don't know what you mean! You don't know what feelings are!"
"I damn well do! I lie awake every night!"
"You sleep during the day!"
"Yeah, but- You are missing the point. This is real here. I love-"
"Don't!"
*** 12 PM ***
Giles woke up, surprised no one had bothered him at the grave site. He hadn't meant to fall asleep there, but perhaps it was for the best.
In five short hours, it wouldn't matter anyway.
He suspected the others had left. And instead of feeling angry or disappointed, he was glad for them. They were his children in a way, and he knew they deserved the chance to live full lives. He knew very well that those in Los Angeles had most likely left as well. A quick call to Angel prior to going to Jenny's grave had confirmed that there were tickets waiting for Wesley and Cordelia as well as their other associate, so now he could look forward to being together with Jenny again and not worry about anyone else he cared for.
*** 1 PM ***
Tara woke first. She touched Willow lightly. "Willow, where are we?"
"Anyanka asked for a favor. I gave it to her," D'Hoffryn answered. "You will be safe here. When the destruction is done, I will let you go to New York with the others."
Willow sat up. "I don't want to be a vengeance demon"
"I know," he replied. "I had no idea what you would want to take with you, so I put you both in a deep sleep and transported all your things. Anyanka does owe me or this, but someday, I should hope...you will decide to be a vengeance demon."
"Not likely," Willow said, but there was a smile on her face. "What does Anya owe you?"
"She'll name her first son after me. At least as his middle name." The demon shrugged. "Maybe before she dies I can persuade her to come back. She was the best we ever had."
"We'll make sure to tell her that," Tara said. "Now what?"
"Now, you wait."
*** 4 PM ***
The sun set slowly. And Spike didn't know why he'd headed for that particular graveyard. His mausoleum was on the other side of town. He'd wandered in the shadows as best he could that day after making sure Buffy boarded that plane. When she left, he felt a sense of pain that he had never felt before. And he just wanted to spend the last hour of his existence somewhere quiet.
And then he spotted him. "Giles?"
"Spike? Thought you were going with Dawn and Joyce."
Spike shook his head. "Sent Buffy with them. They need her more." He sat on the grave across from Giles, Jenny's grave in between them. "Xander and Anya left, too."
"What about Willow and Tara?"
"Haven't a clue. But knowing them, they're safe, too."
Giles nodded. "And you?"
"I figure will all of them gone, I could end 120 or so years peacefully and with no worries."
"I feel the same way."
*** 5 PM ***
It hit with no warning. There were screams, and there was terror, but for two people sitting by a gravestone, there was only peace. They had made the best of the last twenty-four hours of their existence.
They could have done no more than that.

Episode 65 of Blessed Are the Binary Breakers is up! Listen wherever you get podcasts, or click here for places to listen + the episode transcript.
K Kriesel (they/them or she/her) is not afraid of "messy," with a spiritual life that blends Catholicism and Wicca, and holds space for time adrift.
K has broken away from a variety of groups that proved too limiting to uplift the most marginalized, including any feminism that prioritizes white, cis women. As they search for a spiritual community built with people like them in mind, K serves as a chaplain and creates the kind of queer Catholic art they want to see in the world. You can contact K and view their work at kkriesel.com or @kkrieselart on Instagram or Facebook.
ID is under the alt text, along with more episode quotes and more of K’s art!
[Image ID: all images are squares with a blue fabric background. The first includes a photo of a white person with glasses wearing a green fabric witch’s hat and red or burgundy robes. They hold a statue of a gold-robed Mary whose body turns into a serpent’s tail below the knees. Text reads, “Embracing ‘Messy’ with K Kriesel: Chaplain & Textile Artist. Listen on Blessed Are the Binary Breakers, a multifaith podcast of trans stories.” The next image features a quote from K reading, “I’ve created a lot of queer Catholic artwork because I want it to be in the world, and the best way to do that is just make it.” Photos show a statue of an armored angel with trans flag colored wings and two statues of Jesus with rainbow-colored and trans flagged colored butterfly wings. / end ID]

I had really wanted my local Wiccan communities to be social justice minded, and they weren't. So I just took a break for a few years. And I was really questioning my gender and I was experimenting a lot, while I was thinking about returning to...spiritual spaces, spiritual study. And it was all messy. The gender was all messy, the spirituality was all messy — and I loved it." / end ID

A quote from K reads, “As soon as I stopped working for the Roman Catholic Church, I jumped out of the closet. ...And uh, that's actually caused me to break away from spiritual community altogether. Nobody's told me to leave; nobody's been rude — at least not intentionally. It's more...I don't want to diversify. I don't want to be the 'Ladies and gentlemen — and K.' I'm seeking a spiritual community that has been structurally non-gendered from the get-go. And I don't know if that exists." / end ID

ID: Ten statues of Mary draped in various fabric robes, with a quote from K reading, "Whenever I feel the need to have maternal love, I turn to Mother Mary, because she's provided it more than my human mother has. So Marian imagery is a major theme [in my art], because creating art...is a prayer technique for me." / end ID

Hello, new follower here! I particularly enjoy your book reviews (love the brutal honesty). Are there any occult/witchcraft/Wicca books you’d give a 5-star recommendation?
Hi, hi, hello, hello, welcome!
I give very few Pagan, Witchcraft, and Occult books 5 stars for very good reason; most of them are shit and even the good ones fall down the rabbit holes of pseudomythology and ahistorical bullshit at minimum ... It's just something you have to watch out for and be constantly vigilant of regardless of who you're reading and when the book was published- but especially the older the book is.
That being said, there are a few books I do enjoy personally despite any of the issues they may have:
The Tradition of Household Spirits: Ancestral Lore and Practices by Claude Lecouteux (No Quotes Available)
Plant Magic: A Year of Green Wisdom for Pagans & Wiccans by Sandra Kynes (Quotes here)
Wild Magical Soul: Untame Your Spirit & Connect to Nature's Wisdom by Monica Crosson (Quotes here)
Veneficium: Magic, Witchcraft and the Poison Path (Quotes Here) and Viridarium Umbris: The Pleasure Garden of Shadow (Quotes Here) by Daniel Schulke
Incense: Its Ritual Significance, Use, and Preparation; Perfumes, Essences, and Anointing Oils by Leo Vinci (Quotes Here)
One Heart, Many Gods: The Absolute Beginner's Guide to Devotional Polytheism by Lucy Valunos (No Quotes Available)
The Path of a Christian Witch by Adelina St. Clair (Quotes Here)
Wicca (Quotes Here) and Living Wicca (Quotes here) by Scott Cunningham
Wicca for Beginners: Fundamentals of Philosophy & Practice by Thea Sabin (Quotes Here)
Magical Power for Beginners: How to Raise and Send Energy for Spells That Work by Deborah Lipp (Quotes Here)
The Study of Witchcraft: A Guidebook to Advanced Wicca by Deborah Lipp (Quotes Here)
Traditional Wicca: A Seeker’s Guide by Thorn Mooney (Quotes Here)
A Witches' Bible: The Complete Witches' Handbook by Stewart and Janet Farrar (Quotes Here)
A Teaching Handbook for Wiccans and Pagans: Practical Guidance for Sharing Your Path by Thea Sabin (Quotes Here)
And then there's a couple of other books that aren't actually based in Witchcraft, Paganism, and the Occult, but which I do find significantly relevant to them, which I love as well:
Convenient Myths: The ‘Axial Age’, Dark Green Religion, and the World That Never Was by Professor Iain Provan (Quotes Here)
Green Imperialism: Colonial Expansion, Tropical Island Edens, and the Origins of Environmentalism by Former Professor Richard Grove (Quotes Here)
Against the Grain: A Deep History of the Earliest States by Sterling Professor James Scott (Quotes Here)
The Scentual Garden: Exploring the World of Botanical Fragrance by Ken Druse (Quotes Here)
Good luck and Godspeed getting through that list 🤣 😭 There's always more, but I think I won't try and actively murder your sanity.
I will say, however, I do need to update many of my reviews. Some of them are incredibly old and written when I had little idea what I was talking about. Others were written at nebulous points and may not accurately reflect proper terminology or belief now ... I really do need to go through them and make sure they're up to snuff. So if they were written prior to mid 2022, then I'd take my reviews with a grain of salt until I do.

I don’t say things like this often, but this is a book I think everyone should read!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It has inspired me to make my first (authentic to me) altar. Women have created our own seperate space vía home altars for millennia…In pre-historical times we see evidence of this, we see it all over the world stretching back into the inky depths of time…Whether in highly patriarchal Ancient Greece making their hestia the center of their home, Mexican mothers passing their devotion to Mother Mary / Mary of Guadalupe via home altars, Hindu women creating gorgeous home altars for Durga or Kali or any of the numerous Hindu deities, whether she be a devotee of Guan Yin, or of Yoruba…Women create true religious life by blending the religious with the mundane, by creating sacred womens cultures formed around home altars, by creating power denied via patriarchal religion through home altars…It’s divine.
Quotes:
“I ventured to ask Virginia why she kept an altar at home, she simply replied that it was a “beautiful necessity.”
“…historically it has always been women who are more likely to keep or reinvigorate old practices alongside the new, which are usually a result of male-determined war, conquest, or ideological transformations.”
“the altar is…The meeting place of the sacred and the mundane, the parenthesis between the two worlds…where communication with the ineffable is possible…altars are very important tools used for facilitating the interweaving of the two worlds.”
“For a woman, keeping an altar is a distinctly personal assumption of relationship with divine ally’s in whatever form they take for her.”
“For Wiccans, the altar is foremost a setting for the tools that are ritually used to invoke blessing and change…For many, the women’s altar is itself a sign of religious immanence by virtue of its ancient emergence from the natural world [explanation of first altars being piles of stones, etc]…Other women adopt the altar as a source of their own self-nurturance…As a mirror of self-reflection, growth, and change, the altar becomes a site where women claim and exercise an unencumbered sense of their own spiritual effectiveness.”

New daily ritual dropped! 🌹 If you connect strongly to Green Tara like me, this is a great practice. If you don’t it can pretty easily be adapted.
💗 I associate Her with the quote ‘She will save every being, down to the last blade of grass’.
💗 I pick up a piece of grass early in the day (if I have to pluck it I say thank you to Sister Earth)
💗 When I see the blade of grass I carry around, I say her mantra of Om Ture Tutarre Ture Soha in my head or aloud if I can. Im reminded of how she is so caring and will save every living creature and gain comfort from it. I also try to embody that attitude as I can (usually just basic kindness to others, you don’t gotta save the world here)
💗 I do this throughout the day. I find that it puts me in a meditative mood and has made me spontaneously sit down outside to say Her mantra
💗keep doing it. I’m thinking of getting a glass jar and every day putting my piece of grass in, perhaps as I pray then reflect on the day. Might add journaling.
My counselor helped me come up with this but it makes for great devotional practice (that’s what I use it for, as well as to keep myself calm). Enjoy 😌 If you adapt it for a Janya, Dea, or goddess then please reblog with your addition! 👀

My #1 post of 2022
I’m a bit obsessed with this goddess I just discovered! She covers the domain of sewers, drains, and purification - a goddess explicitly connected to feces and everything nasty & helping society thrive by diverting it. She was later assimilated into VENUS! It feels very raw. We can sometimes make goddesses so pure, I feel like the symbolism in such a down to earth goddess is so incredible! In an odd way, she reminds me of a nastier version of Mary, Untier of Knots!
I also feel She’s an excellent representation of the Daughter, helping us all in her role as savioress. As well as Her role as Priestess, in transmuting energy and changing situations.

4, 32, 38 from the writing ask!
Thank you for these asks. It took me a while to think of answers for each.
4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
That is a really interesting question and I'm not sure I have a good answer, but I do love references to prayer. I don't know why but it just does something to me. Saying something is 'like a prayer' is just divine.
32. What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?
I cannot find the exact quote, but I loved a line from Magrat Garlick about being unable to dance except in circles (I think it was Lords and Ladies). I love the double meaning of not being able to dance and how Pagans/Wiccans dance as part of ritual/festivals. For some reasons I think of it often, especially if I'm talking to someone about being a Pagan. It always brings a smile to my face as some people think being a Pagan is batshit insane and, yeah, maybe they are right.
I do know that Terry Prachett did visit some Pagan moots in England and so the witches are very easily recognisable types of Pagans I have met.
38. What is something about your writing process YOU think is Really Weird? If you are comfortable, please share. If you’re not comfortable, what do you think cats say about us?
Is there anything weird about my writing process? I don't think so. but I do write from start to finish. There has been only one time I've written a scene from later in a fic first and it was for reasons but I did feel it threw me off. So, maybe that's weird, but I don't know.
Anyway, bonus: cats are adorable and cute.

ok for sure adding verna from the fall of the house of u.sher and bc i just did a bunch of research my brain is buzzing and i want to write this draft lol so heres a small dump of just some thoughts and hcs so far. please be aware there are spoilers below :)
TLDR; read the bold text :)
what is she? i think that's the question i'm still trying to answer. but the most i can akin her to is...a god. she would never say that though. her answer would be: fate. but verna has been here since the beginning of time. she may even be time herself. i'm deeply inspired by the fact that the raven is associated with god and chaos across multiple religions and cultures. in native cultures for example, the raven can be seen as the creator and/or a trickster god. which i think lines perfectly with what we see in the show. in hinduism the raven is associated mahakala (the god time, creation, destruction and power) and shani (the god of karma, justice, and retribution) also attributes we see in verna. in norse mythology, ravens are associated with odin, the all-father, as his trusted ears and eyes, providing secrets and happenings of the worlds he guards. in the quran, the raven "teaches" cain how to bury a body and in the bible, the raven is often associated with god, god's power, and were even considered forbidden to eat. again all stories i see really fitting with verna's character. and theres so many coincidences across these depictions - to be so closely associated with the idea of creation, judgement, and godliness... really proves what she is to me. i mean I CAN KEEP GOING , this is the kind of stuff I LOVE. i loveee digging into cultures and religions and reading the folklore and texts that i can find. so i'll stop there bc i think you get the point now LOL
but is she good or evil? she's neither. she just is. there's a quote in the very beginning of the show made by eliza that i think fit this idea and depict verna so well: "he's complicated...like god." and "pain and suffering are like the kiss of jesus." both of these quotes i think fit the previous of idea of what she is and how she can be thought of as a god. and you know i may not believe in the same god (reminder i'm a hellenic wiccan) but i do know that gods are complicated! in every depiction across every religion and culture. god and gods and goddesses are complicated. i do like to think tho that she is inherently good, like her name tag suggests in episode 3 :)
powers i mean what can't she do? she can do and be pretty much anything and everything. she is crazy op (i do not plan to write this though lol so please no worries about godmodding) just...be aware she is truly all powerful and all knowing? she knows the future (admittedly in the show), she know who you could've been, who you were and who you are right now. she can be in multiple places at once. she's crazy powerful. that said her favorite shifts are the human shift you see in the show (yay carla gugino!) and a raven bc...yeah! look at the ABOVE lol she's been everywhere since the beginning.
so why bargain? why not? i mean admittedly she's bored? and she's chaotic as well as good. but remember i said previously, verna would answer she's fate. and in my opinion she is fate twisted by horrors of humanity. in the later eps she goes on different rants about morality and human selfishness and how she doesn't quite understand it but she finds it so interesting. i think yes obvs shes a lil twisted to do what she does - but there's still a sense of righteousness with her actions. so she's morbidly curious about the horrors humanity is capable of. and she likes to witness it just as much as she likes to witness true kindness and sincerity. (as seen with lenore and her mother and even with the entire bargain with the twins: she wanted to see what they would do when given everything they ever wanted: good or bad?) again i think this all plays into the my idea of what she is: why bargain? bc she can and she's curious. so why not?

Book 41, for the prompt "a book that starts with O, for October".
Another one off the bingo sheet, but somehow still not one of the 13 goal ones I picked out. 😅
I also broke my rule for this. Somehow I didn't have another book that started with O on my physical TBR, so I went to Barnes and Noble today with a Mission.
It's harder than you'd think to find a book starting with O.
I pulled this when I saw the title, then I saw the cover and knew it'd be this one. The summary said witches and dark academia and a mysterious disappearance? Bought it immediately. (Along with several other books, but it's okay because I Stayed Within My Allotted Budget.)
Over My Dead Body takes place at an academy for witches. Samhain is coming up, and just before, one of the students go missing. Her friends know something is wrong- why does it seem like no one is looking for her? And set about solving her disappearance. The more they look, the more it becomes apparent that her case has ties to a past disappearance at the school.
The art is really beautiful. Right off the bat. It's colorful and beautiful and really gives off the witchy fall vibes.
The story was good. It felt like a cozy plot- one you know, where you know what's going on, but you know you're going to enjoy. It felt like a few things needed longer to delve into, and the story went really fast, but I liked it for what it was.
Additional notes:
I liked Violet immediately when she appeared, because I have a weak spot for the bitchy girls. 😩
The character designs were beautiful, and I loved the unique familiars!
Good horror elements too. Perfectly spooky.
Loved the classics quotes and poetry each chapter, and all the Wiccan elements.
I was disappointed that it was Goldie she was into. They're a cute couple, but I'm such a sucker for the (semi) enemies to lovers- the "I thought you hated me or didn't care" to "I care so much" trope. But they kind of were relegated to the side couple. ://
Overall, good Halloween story.

Teen Girls, Witches, Stranger Things and Super Powers
1. What are your thoughts on the evolution of depictions of Supernatural Powers in young women?
This is a really interesting question and this week has made me take a look back into my fascination with magic as a kid. I think the evolution of Supernatural Powers in young women has taken (with work left to do of course) with the journey that women have had in changing, or should I say, strengthening the feminist landscape. The idea of witches in the past have been haggard old women with warts on their noses and speaking in creepy voices. I grew up watching Charmed and until I was well versed on the male gaze, I didn’t realize how wrong the depiction of the Halliwell sisters was. Could it be that the show runners thought they were doing their audience a favor by presenting a show with "sexy but badass" leads. Maybe their intention was for us to believe that we didn't have to choose. This choice falls flat in my opinion. You could wear stilettos and still kick ass? As time goes on, the depiction has gotten more digestible by presenting different women from different backgrounds. You no longer need to be a girly girl who casts a love spell on the high school quarterback, nor do you need to be the isolated loner who wears black lipstick and  frequents the local wiccan shop (as we see in The Craft) What’s special about characters like Hermione is that she allows us to believe that their are magical beings who walk among us and blend in. Today, supernatural powers are presented in young women of various backgrounds and they display their powers and varying levels of intensity.
Tumblr media
2. How is magical power related to adolescence?
Magical powers are related to adolescence because it allows you to believe that anything is possible. When we see spells being cast, we as spectators are suspending our disbelief and entering their world to dream of what they may not think is possible at that very moment. How many times have we seen a supernatural movie and left the viewing thinking that WE ourselves have that power? I don’t know how many sticks I’ve sanded down as a kid thinking that I was a Hogwarts student who was simply left off the admissions list. In short, magical power allows us to believe and think bigger than our current circumstance.
3. What impact does the depiction of magic and the sense of agency it represents have on real girls and young women in this era of emerging teenage girl leadership?
Women are the future. To quote Elsa in Frozen, “Conceal, Don’t Feel” is not an option anymore. Women have been told to not make waves and to stand in the background so men can handle things. Not anymore! Magical powers are metaphors for what is already inside us. At the end of the day, we may not be able to fly, but we are able to take that energy deep within and transform that into tangible and actionable steps towards a brighter future.
Tumblr media
4. Are you aware of additional girl icons with magical powers? Please share in your post with images.
I actually just recently watched The Craft and Nancy is polarizing and bone chilling. She’s the example of how greed can drive us to destruction. When she’s given the ultimate power, she forgets those who stood by her and turns against her support system. This action leads her to turn against herself. This makes me think of the “only use your power for good” cliche. Similarly with our favorite Sanderson Sisters - How many times are they going to try the same thing and keep on failing!? What's the definition of insanity again??
Tumblr media
5. Do you see a correlation between the career opportunities of these young women performers, the roles they have played,  and their evolution as feminists?
Absolutely. We’ve watched figures like Emma Watson and Alyssa Milano on our televisions for years. We’ve gained familiarity with them and that results in the buy in for our support. Figures like Viola Davis, Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard deliver their messages and count on their audience to stand behind them. Whether they are giving speeches or being intentional about the roles they take, they want their audience to walk away from their experience changed and inspired to create a better world.

Jasper Reviews: A Tea Witch's Grimoire
"A Tea Witch's Grimoire: Magical recipes for your teatime." was written in 2021 by S.M. Harlow, who is a real person (she has an Instagram so there's at least a veneer of her possibly being a real person).
I'm going to get all of my "your paragraph breaks are inconsistent, work on capitalization, get an editor" complaints out in this paragraph, but they're all over the place in the book. Whoever helped edit this book needs to be fired or sent to an editing school.
Next, I want to mention that this is a 69 (nice) page book on mediocre paper for 15 USD. It does not feel like it's worth 15 bucks.
More complaints include "stop gendering the Moon", "add safety warnings if you're going to encourage people to use wild plants for tea", "Wiccan holidays aren't universal", and "stop appropriating chakras".
I specifically want to mention that the Tea Spell Chant on page 44 reeks of "white magic good black magic bad" because it goes as follows:
In this pot I enchant and brew, A spell that is pure and true. I conjure wisdom and creativity, In this tea that honors my divinity.
This is the only chant in the entire book.
And for my last complaint, I want to address the "WISDOM" (please note that this is the only section in all caps) on page 67, where the author says, and I quote:
It is important to know the magic that is within herbs, but always remember to brew and consume these magical remedies in perfect health. Know your body before you drink anything that you may be allergic to, are pregnant or nursing, or taking medication.
The first sentence, when looked at alone, feels rude (ableist, even, to insist that people can't do magic or even drink FUCKING TEA when they're ill - sorry spoonie witches, guess y'all aren't magic /sarcasm) and also brings up the questions of "Why call these remedies if they don't actually heal anything?" and "Why do I even need a tea spell if I don't need anything?" which are left unanswered because there's no text on page 68 and page 69 (once again, nice) is the About The Author page.
Okay. I'm done complaining. Because there are good things about this book.
Firstly, I love the flowery language that the author uses. You can really tell that she writes and loves romance fiction.
The recipes are all listed with enough of each ingredient for a cup, and the author says to double the recipe for a pot.
The tea recipes are separated nicely into the following categories: tea spells (again, called remedies), moon phases, horoscope/zodiac signs, and Wiccan holidays.
Near the end, there are correspondence tables for all of the plants mentioned in the recipes. It's fine, I would have preferred the correspondences to be with the ingredients in each recipe themselves, but that's not how everyone sorts their spells.
The author does NOT spell magic with a K, which automatically wins a point back in my book.
Official Jasper Review: 6/10, overall decent enough recipe book, don't put too much stock in the chapter's preambles, appropriation bad
I wouldn't recommend this book for beginners, but if you're looking for tea recipes and don't care about the rest of it, it's okay enough. Just be safer about eating wild plants than the author apparently is.

stuff the witches were talking about i didn’t fully understand
Here I am, trying to explain some things I didn’t really understand myself before. Hope this will come helpful.
THE LAW OF ATTRACTION
Now that I looked into it, i understand it at least a bit. I’ll try to explain it to you.
The Law of Attraction is the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on. The Law of Attraction is the thing, that materializes our thoughts into reality. All thoughts turn into things eventually. Etc. If you focus on the negativity, and bad things you will keep on feeling sad. But if you focus on the good parts of the life, become ambitious of what you want to achieve, and you believe in yourself, at the end, you can do it. It is like witchcraft- witchcraft is basically a big law of attraction. See, you light a candle, etc. red for love, with the intention of attracting love into your life. If you write a spell or if you just say your intention with the most powerful words you can find, you are great to go. It is basically speaking or writing down your intentions, being clear with them and they are send into the universe like a bunch of vibrations. Yet somehow, they come back and they manifest, so you reacieve the love you were looking for! Not a lot of people understand it fully, but, if it works, there is no need to really bother.
so, you basically attract whatever you think about.
MANIFESTING
if you are new to withcraft, you might be already confused. So here I am again, trying to explain it all to you.
Manifestation is basically the result of the Law of attraction. Etc. You send out vibrations with the intention “i attract money and wealth” and manifesting is basically you getting what you let out, so you recieve more money.
Manifestation works alongside the Law of Attraction, a universal rule which is that thoughts can become things.(as i explained above).
You have done a spell, and it doesn’t work. Remember the law of attraction? You have used that just now to make the spell. And you are using it maybe even right now, unconciously. It works like this- if you keep on worrying about your magic, doubting the spell and thinking that it won’t work, it won’t. Try focusing on what you love and on what makes you feel good and happy and alive. Soon you’ll be attracting more of THAT. Manifestation is a magickal way of getting what you want, and the easiest and most powerful way to do that is to feel it. You can also use visualization to aid in manifesting. What I also do, is that i forget. I just forget when I did a spell and let it work for itself. The only thing i tell myslef when i think about it is “It is going to work, my magick works.”
A quick spell to get rid of anything what is blocking you away from manifesting:
You will need a piece of paper, pen, a candle (or just matches).
Center yourself. Take a few deep breaths and focus on what you are doing right now. You can  burn some herbs or an incense to get rid of unwanted energies that are trying to interrupt your spell. Ground yourself by keeping your fett on the floor, imagining roots coming into the ground from you.
The first step to manifesting is to let go. So think of what’s holding you back from what you want. Whether it’s an unhealthy relationship, self-doubt, or money troubles, focus on what it is that you want to release. Write down what you want to let go of at the top of a piece of paper, focusing the energy and feelings you have as you write. Be intentional. You can write something like “I am done living in a place of fear” or “I release any self-doubt I may have” or “I am done living from a place of scarcity.” Again, this should feel right to you.
Now, burn it. Either put it in a fireproof bowl, fireplace or burn it by a candle, imagine the fire sending your intentions to the universe. Do it as many times as you like, until you know that it works and you have no doubt. Now ground yourself again.
Oof. This was hella long. I hope you understood at least a bit.
WHAT ARE ALL OF THOSE HERBS, CRYSTALS AND CANDLES FOR?
If you are a beginner witch, you might be wondering: Do I need all of this? Mugwort for this and that, incense, candles and a lots of shiny crystals? Why do all of the witches use these? What are they good for?
First, no, you don’t need any of these. All you need is yourself and a clear intention to work your magic. A lot of witches burn candles while doing spells. Why? Because candle magic is really simple, all you need is a candle and matches.  “ Candle magick is a kind of alchemy, where all elements are represented — fire of the flame, air to feed it, melted wax for water, and solid wax for earth” so the candles empower your intention. You can also choose a colour of the wax, essential oil, herbs or carve a sigil into them. Candle magic is really great way to start.
All of those herbs, witchy tools, colorful candles are here to only strenghten your intention with their own energy. When you look at a rose, you might start thinking about romance, love, peace... these are the magickal properties of a rose. See, every item gives off an energy. You can keep your magic as simple as with only yourself and your intention, or you can add in various crystals or herbs only to strenghten it, But why herbs? How do you use them while just saying out your intention? You can burn them (pls be careful when doing so) if you are doing a spell for focus or memory, try burning some rosemary in a fireproof bowl, or lighting a rosemary incense. You can also add crystals around yourself while casting a spell to empower it with their energy. So if you are casting a money spell, try surrounding yourself with citrine, aventurine, anything golden, tigers eye... or of course, just some programmed clear quartz will do.
Both of crystals and herbs can be incorporated in witchbottles also. And jars are simply for storing these herbs.
If you are a beginner witch, there is no need to go off and buy tons of crystals like i did and go broke (like i did). A clear quartz is a substitute crystal for any you would need. As well as is rosemary for any other herb/plant, and aswell as is the color white for any other color of candles. And of course, you can find tons of herbs and spices in your own kitchen cabinet already. Cinnamon, nutmeg, thyme, rosemary, basil... these might already be in there.
AS ABOVE, SO BELOW
you might have seen this quote or rather a saying somewhere before. I did a longer research on it, there is not much of  a content out there.
(I will update this in a while, pls wait)
WHAT THE HECK IS BINDING MAGIC?
if i had to tell you right now, i wouldn’t know myself. Here i am to research it and give you some information!
A magical binding is simply a spell or working that restrains someone , preventing them from doing something. It is often used to keep the individual from causing harm to themselves or others. It is usually done in a positive way of preventing the person from doing harm themselves or the others. It’s like stopping them from doing bad stuff.
haha i think this is enough, you got it, right?
WICCA, WITCHCRAFT AND PAGANISM
final question. Which is which? what am i?
WICCA
is a religion, a belief. All wiccans are pagan, and they are also witches (basically pagan witches). They practice magick and witchcraft alongside with believing in divine energies. They follow the moon phases, that each moon phase has a different magical meaning. They celebrate 8 holidays- sabbaths, or either called pagan holidays. And since it is a religion, wiccans believe in a God and a Goddess, or multiple deities which is called eclectic wicca.
WITCHCRAFT
a witch is someone who works with herbs, potions, casts spells, crystals, natural healing... someone who does energy workings. Witches can be Muslim, Christian, whatever religion they choose to believe in, or they don’t have to be religious at all.
PAGANISM
is a wide  variety of beliefs, in which is the nature worshipped. Pagans follow religious guidelines drawn out by nature- seasons, moon phases, weather... There are maaaany gods and Goddesses, they usually represent a part of nature or a celestial body. They can choose to wroship Celtic, Greek, Hindu, Chinese, Egyptian deities and many more. Pagans believe that we should not be superior to nature, she is the one who created us afterall. It’s like an umbrella of religions, under which are Hinduists, Wiccans, Shamanists...
IN CONCLUSION
All wiccans are pagan, but not all pagans are wiccan.
All wiccans are witches, but not all witches are wiccan.
boom. Period.
I hope you understand it all now, if you notice any mistakes, feel free to correct me.

A lot of people still recommend Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedias today for good reason; compared to many modern books, Cunningham actually sourced much of his work & provided references. And anyone who reads modern materials knows how rare it is to get a quarter of the information he provided now- even if he made mistakes, had his problems, & could've always gone much further than he did.
Personally, however, I find they pale in comparison to two works of his that're no longer recommended — 'Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner' + 'Living Wicca: A Further Guide For The Solitary Practitioner' are arguably the two most quintessential manuals that finally formally codified NeoWicca: The non-initiatory, often solitary (and, contrary to popular belief, not automatically eclectic) denomination of Wicca that developed out of a combination of Traditional Wicca's Outer Court system, the Festival Movement, and other developments of the 70's - 90's Pagan Space; including the formalization of what it meant to actually be Wiccan at the time.

In the last few years I've re-read these two gems, plus many others, in an effort to re-explore my "original roots" after leaving a Pagan religious community whose Gods I loved with all my heart, but whose membership itself was incredibly toxic. And it saddens me, actually, how much genuinely good advice and methodology is in these older books, but is being ignored because modern Pagans seem to think they're "too good" for the Elders of the Revival; who seek to distance themselves so thoroughly from their own history and truth instead of just acknowledging and accepting it.
These are just some examples that've stuck with me as I've progressed since then in finding my own space with my Spirits + Ancestors ... But there are hundreds more quotes on my Tumblr from many other Elders of the revival, and many other books; agree with them as people or not: So many things could be fixed if we just learned to pay attention to them again ... Not to keep their information wholesale. But simply to listen to their lessons and remember our history.
