12 for the music asks. Just because that's when my music taste was at its worst best.
But considering how vague the ask is, you can go whatever way you want with it.
12:A song from your preteen years
Not sure if this means a song that was released during my pre-teen years or a song I couldn't stop listening to during those years, but regardless.
Here is one are three songs I was obsessed with as a kid:

A quintessential keepsake unabridgment of SF entertainment!
OUTSIDE-THE BOX: FIRST POST OF TWO
HOURS UPON HOURS (5:08:53) OF SMOKING FETISH NIRVANA | FEATURING SMOKING SWEETIES, SMOKING-MODELS, USA SMOKERS
COMPILATION MADNESS OVERLOAD | "WeAll SmokeHere" YouTube | OUR FIFTH INSTALLMENT (No. 5)
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ + | Five-Plus "Stars"
From vs120shound staff | ★★★★★ (L)
A rather simple and basic concept being realized here on a YouTube webpage showcased on our brand before, "WeAll SmokeHere," with its video titled Cigarette Smoking Compilation (Best of #6-20). Compilation No. 1 for "WA SH" was released in 2020 and No. 20 was published in May 2023. Amid that line of production, "WeAll SmokeHere" also interspersed the production and publishing of four specialty videos between April and February 2023. There are 60 scenes within the 308 minutes and 53 seconds of action in our post's video. So the typical scene/clip/snippet lasts an average of a bit north of 5 minutes. More than three-quarters of the action is shared among three Mega-SF websites: Smoking-Models (U.K.), USA Smokers (Arizona, U.S.A.) and SmokingSweeties (Spain). There is some Britney Pink Angel mixed in as wall as Lindsey Tingles, Kissing Girls Smoking Girlz and the self-deactivated Mega-SF site from Australia whose name rhymes with Camden Flaps.

The Breakdown!
A list starting with elapsed time into the Mega-Video of who appears in this soon-to-be historic classic video post within the Greater SF World Community. This is not for the weak-hearted or squeamish. This is for hard-core SF aficionados who dedicate prime chunks of their time, energy, focus and passion into getting their daily fix of watching BHYSWs (Beautiful Hot, Young Smoking Women) with their cigarettes in videos, photographs, GIFS or slideshows for each and every day:

Congratulations! Now you've finished watching this classic and intense video. Did you do it in one sitting? Probably not. That's too much to expect. Proud of yourself? Now go check out the latest on vs120shound, lostlighter23, vs120shound-2 and lostlighter23-darkside. If you did it in one sitting, you missed the unimportant. Yes, Trump said something unbecoming and not factual again and Biden had one of his typical "foul-ups" and stumbles as well . . . and Sleepy Joe did not get any younger! Oh, and some of your teams won their games; some of them did not. The Beatles remain No. 1 all-time, as does Messi and Pelé . . . Vladimir Putin sucks, though Lev Ivanovich Yashin ("The Black Spider") might edge out Gordon Banks as the greatest goalkeeper of all-time . . . and we still cannot figure out how our Brigitte Bardot Photo of The Day blog still has only 5 positive notes (likes/re-blogs)!. We, we will try again with Ms. Bardot:
Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot, POTD from August 11, 2023 (ask someone who was aware of her supreme aura during her Heyday, from the 1950s well into the 1970s, and what you are told should convince you to take a second look at this Ultimate Sex Symbol) . . .

Small facts about me...
I like to write random stories. Most of them are inspired by the songs I was listening when I wrote them. Could be from the title, the lyrics or the feel from the song.
Also write songs. Most are unfinished. I'm trying to write with an accompaniment of a guitar, but I'm still learning, hoping to shred soon lol (i got a long way)
I like Axl. I think we all have an inner axl rose inside of us. We all get pissed by little things, could be cause by past experiences or trauma. So, kinda relate to him just a tiny bit.
Wannabe rockstar.. gosh it's kinda sad. Idek if it's possible in this time.
.
.
.
You reached the end. Thanks for reading all that. Bit boring? Meh. That's all you really need to know

Your favorite options from the music ask plz!
Hii! Yess, thanks for asking! You're my favorite person right now💙
1: A song you like with a color in the title "What's the use of feeling (blue)?" from Steven Universe is one of my favorites from the show. ALSO, "Black Water" by Of Monsters and Men
2: A song you like with a number in the title "good 4 u" by Olivia Rodrigo. It's techincally cheating, but it's the first that comes to mind
5: A song that needs to be played LOUD I am litterally physically unable to listen to "Tally Ho" by Myylo at any reasonable volume.
6: A song that makes you want to dance "Lonely Vampire" by Weathers
9: A song that makes you happy Strangely, "Me Too" by Meghan Trainor
11: A song that you never get tired of "Symphony" by Zara Larson and Clean Bandit. Closely followed by "The Cure" by Lady Gaga but only by assosiation to Symphony
Also both openings from Link Click.
15: A song that is a cover by another artist Both "Everything has Changed" by Jasmine Thompson and Gerald Ko and "Love in the Dark" by Leroy Sanchez are the superior version for me.
Oh, and I loved Pentatonix's version of "Hallelujah".
And also this version of "Hallelujah" by Tiffany Day because damn. She later did the full song in case you're interested, but the well version is otherwordly.
ALSO, "Fly me to the Moon" by Angelina Jordan.
I really, really love covers, apparently...
17: A song that would sing a duet with on karaoke Almost any latin ballad that makes me sound like a middle-aged divorcee. I have a special love for the Spanish version of "Total Eclipse of The Heart" by Yuridia and Patricio Borghetti
21: A favorite song with a person’s name in the title I always think of either "Hey Jude" or "Michelle" by The Beatles with questions like this
23: A song that you think everybody should listen to
"Goodbye" by Kesha. Only available in YouTube as far as I'm aware. But it's a literal gift of a song
28: A song by an artist with a voice that you love "Lost on you" by LP is a whole mood. Also "Before you go" by Lewis Capaldi

the life of arthur kirkland (number one beatles fan and eventual directioner) told through beatles songs
[read left to right, explanations under the cut]
boys
the year is 1992, arthur kirkland is 12 yrs old and he accompanies his older brother to a record store. his stomach does a flip when he sees a photo of two young men on the wall. naturally, he asks his brother who they are. he lets him know they’re john lennon and paul mccartney, just before they started the beatles. arthur asks for a record, and his brother scrapes up enough pocket money to get him a second hand copy of ‘please please me’. it’s more than arthur could ever ask for, and from the first song he’s hooked.
he grows to every album the beatles have made, and as he heads into secondary school he realises that the flip his stomach makes whenever he sees a handsome boy is not just a coincidence. but that’s different, he thinks. it’s okay though, he’s got the familiar voices of john, paul, george and ringo to get him through it.
help!
help!
he’s in high school, a new student moves to his school. francis is obnoxious, flirty and french. arthur’s unsure why francis clings to him at the beginning. they argue a lot, and francis always seems to be trying to one up him. arthur’s long streak of solitude is ruined. but it’s nice. when he’s not terrible, francis is sweet. compassionate even. francis contrasts him, the perfect compliment for arthur’s closed off attitude.
even as francis made more friends, which was inevitable with his charisma, he still stayed good friends with arthur. they walked each other home, snuck out to the roof together and now, weirdly enough, arthur couldn’t really imagine what his high school life was like before francis barrelled in. while he hates to admit it, he can’t help but feel attached. he doesn’t know why, but his stomach does a flip whenever he looks at him.
michelle
observing the gymnastics his stomach liked to do whenever francis came too close or looked in his direction, in tandem with the many love songs by the beatles he listened to on repeat, arthur slowly came to the conclusion that… perhaps his feelings for francis weren’t wholly platonic. he thinks long and hard, how to let francis know. to know how he feels.
in good arthur fashion, he falls back to his comforts. the music that raised him. they’re on the roof during break, arthur’s got his guitar and impresses francis the only way he knows how. he thinks of paul throughout it, thanks the man he’d never met for giving him the words he couldn’t make himself. francis laughs at his french, and arthur wants to melt into a puddle until francis reciprocates his feelings. a kiss. a small one, a gentle one, but that flip in his stomach feels more like a firework.
penny lane
it’s an unusually sunny day in london, and arthur picks up francis from his house so they can walk to school together. francis stares up at the sky in it’s uncharacteristically bright glory. he suggests they skip, arthur asks what for, francis shrugs. he knows what his boyfriend would enjoy.
before arthur can process it, they’re on a three hour train ride. the first train they could find to liverpool. arthur can’t help it, he doesn’t think he’s smiled this much in so long. this is where it started - where is favourite band became his favourite band. he feels an immediate connection to it, and almost tears up when he sees the infamous penny lane sign. it’s a memory he holds dear forever.
oh! darling
they’re older now. high school a distant memory, and the new apartment is the new focus of their lives. the relationship is strong, they’re using the cheapest ingredients to cook and have to fix the faucet every other day but they’re mostly happy. they’ve got each other.
though they’ve never been the most easygoing pair. they bicker often, and disagree on a lot of things. finances, date nights, the future. they’re used to it though. bickering has become it’s own sort of comfort. but one day arthur takes it a step too far, pushes francis in ways he normally knew to avoid. the bickering turns into an argument, a real one, the worst one they’ve ever had. francis can’t look at him and arthur’s stomach drops. he’s done it, fucked up the best thing in his life. his favourite, perhaps the most emotional of all of paul’s songs rings clear through his head. he finally understands it. why paul sounds so hurt. so desperate.
in the end, it turns out okay. they talk about it, arthur wonders why francis doesn’t leave him but all francis can do is smile. it was one obstacle, he could never leave him. arthur’s always been such a silly man.
martha my dear
they save up for a piano. arthur’s always loved music (clearly) and the piano is the one instrument francis is actually quite good at. they figure it’s something they can eventually put in their forever home.
arthur revealed this back in high school, why ‘martha my dear’ was one of the songs by the beatles that brought the most comfort. arthur, he says, i thought paul was saying arthur. francis laughs and laughs until his eyes are teary, but keeps it in the back of his mind forever.
they finally have their piano, and francis is often sat there playing whatever melody he can think of. arthur gets home later than him one day, exhausted and upset. francis thinks for a moment before it clicks back in his mind, the familiar tune ringing throughout the small apartment. arthur my dear, he begins. francis doesn’t quite know all the lyrics, but it makes enough sense to register in arthur’s mind. it’s much different to paul’s voice, but francis’ brings butterflies to his stomach all the same.
ob la di ob la da
life goes on. they have better jobs, and a piano is not their biggest investment anymore. it’s a bit rundown, but with some love and care, they bring an old house to a new glory. it’s beautiful, and most importantly theirs. they love each others company, but they’re ready to bring someone new into their lives. two new people in fact, twins. they adopt two baby girls, amelia and madeline. they couldn’t be more different in personality, and they’re certainly a handful but arthur and francis wouldn’t have it any other way.
parenthood is interesting to say the least. they barely sleep, and their days are constantly filled with noise, but they make the most of every minute. arthur can finally listen to ob la di ob la da and relate to desmond and molly jones.
as the girls come of age, they develop their own interests. madeline can’t go two days without being on an ice rink, and amelia only listen’s to one direction to arthur’s initial displeasure. it’s a lot for francis and arthur to handle, but they know they can get through anything. all of them can. the kirkland-bonnefoy’s are a force to be reckoned with.
in my life
he’s been with francis for years. they know each other inside and out. every little quirk, good and bad, was permanently etched into the back of arthur’s brain. they’ve been through everything together. grand moments, memorable events. the sort of stuff you tell your friends at dinner parties to impress them, but it’s the smaller moments. the quieter moments that arthur loves the most. the mornings where francis lets himself sleep in, both still basked in the afterglow of the night before and sunlight from the window.
arthur can study him in full, count every strand of hair, trace his fingers down the curves of each muscle of francis’ body, and whilst he’d never say it to francis, he also starts to notice wrinkles. francis would cry if he knew, but it doesn’t bother arthur one bit. it’s part of francis. arthur understands how one person can impact your life so much, he understands what paul and john sing about. and the usual anxiety that lingers in his stomach subsides.
sixty four
their kids grew older, but they keep in touch often. friday nights are reserved for family calls, updates. how the girls are doing in their careers, how their partners are. it makes arthur tear up everytime, but whenever he hears their voices or sees them in person, he’s surprised. he never thought he could be so proud. he and francis did well. it’s just the two of them again, in their home full of memories and pictures. arthur feels lost without all the noise, and francis knows this. he pulls out an old record, arthur’s favourite sgt peppers.
it’s the song john hated. sixty four. paul’s granny music. and arthur can briefly remember a time in his teenagehood, when he was so set on hating the world and everything in it, where he agreed. why would paul write something so simple? so sappy? but as he aged, met new people, experienced new things, paul’s simple lyrics and desires resonated. he knew he was his favourite for a reason.
to grow old with someone, that was a pleasure in life that arthur felt fortunate to receive. to have someone be yours, forevermore. and even after all these years, having francis be so close, to look at him in that way as they dance sloppily around the living room. yeah, the butterflies are still there.

Since listening to modernday-jay's fruk playlist (here) and after writing this I cannot unhear Michelle by the Beatles as Arthur singing it to attract Francis' attention at a party so I had to attempt to draw this, especially as Paul McCartney used to do this irl to make his friends laugh and impress women by singing in french.
So... imagine this... Arthur has this hot french exchange student in some of his university classes, but there's this weird tension between them and ofc they've become academic rivals over the semester. And oh shit, Arthur is crushing on him and caught feelings but keeps trying to push them down. But then one night, he gets a bit too drunk at a uni party and is making a few questionable decisions already... so why shouldn't his next song be Michelle by the beatles? He hasn't decided if he's doing it to flirt with Francis or maybe he'll purposely butcher the French lyrics to make fun of the language (so therefore making fun of Francis, naturally). He decided to go with the first idea, so he's shooting pointed looks at Francis across the room, who just chatting with friends oblivious. Francis doesn't notice at all, until the French lyrics grab his attention and he turns to see Arthur blushing and staring right at him. Francis just smirks and raises his eyebrows at him singing "I love you I love you I love you, that's all I want to say" thinking it's a joke, and Arthur who keeps singing and playing is just gradually turning brighter and brighter red. Then Arthur on a whim changes the last line of the song, "my Michelle" to "my Francis" while making direct contact with him, and that's when Francis realises Arthur is drunkenly but seriously confessing to him through this song, and Francis just melts on the spot.

hi!! what is your favourite beatles album? could you rank them based on your preferences?
Why Nonny, WHY? Why have you come here to torment me? This is so hard! I don’t know. How do I answer this? I’m going to simply have to go on vibes and how much they hit me emotionally. Will this be about what’s the ‘best’ album? No. Simply it’s about the % of the songs I go - “Yes this is something I sing along to or vibe with”. I’m looking at this and keep changing the top album but simply NONE of them look right. Come for me I am wet paper strong about this ranking.
Rubber Soul (1965) - the sound here is so cohesive, they’ve slightly moved out of straight pop and so it’s got some lovely different sounds. Girl and Michelle! In my Life!!
Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) - my dad had this on vinyl (and now I have that version) when I was growing up. So it has huge sentimental value. But I just dig the magical vibes and With a Little Help is just *chef’s kiss*.
Help! (1965) - it’s possible I’m being biased by the film, but I just love all the songs on this album. Another Girl and The Night Before and Hide Your Love Away could simply not be better.
Abbey Road (1969) - I could go on about how they’d really matured as a band and were at the height of their power, plus they had all the emotion to inspire some great songs. But really, I love drama. Oh! Darling and Come Together are two of my favourite Beatle songs too.
Revolver (1966) - She Said, She Said is a contender for my favourite Beatles song. Obviously there are other complete classics too, but some of these don’t hit for me so it can’t be higher up.
A Hard Day’s Night (1964) - again, film biased perhaps but this contains simply some of the best pop songs ever.
Please Please Me (1963) - Please Please Me and Love Me Do are such cold stone classics that it almost doesn’t matter that the rest is a little meh. But it does also have Twist and Shout and Boys, so it’s still amazing.
Let It Be (1970) - I do love some of this but the drama is not enough to push it higher up the list.
Beatles For Sale (1964) - John’s sad songs are so good that it should be higher but apparently that’s not how this works.
The Beatles (White Album) (1968) - look, some good stuff here but really it’s three albums sort of sellotaped together. So I don’t sit down to and listen to it. But Dear Prudence and Blackbird mean it can’t be bottom for me.
With The Beatles (1963) - You Really Got A Hold on me is so good it should be the top album. But that’s too insane even for me. I Wanna Be Your Man, Please Mr Postman also iconic.
Magical Mystery Tour - some debate on if these two count as albums. But I happen to love MMT and IATW and FOTH. Amazing film that makes zero sense. Love that for us.
Yellow Submarine (1969) - I do have to say that Yellow Submarine was the first song I asked to own for myself. So the double red was the first album I got. I love it. Less sure on some of the others.

For someone who's into "complicated" music (rhythmically, harmonically, structurally):
Abbey Road Medley
Happiness Is A Warm Gun
If I Fell
Also: She Said, She Said, Here Comes The Sun, Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey, If I Needed Someone, The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill.
For someone who just likes it a bit more "unplugged":
I've Just Seen A Face
Mother Nature's Son
Girl
Also: Blackbird, I'm Looking Through You, I Don't Want To Spoil The Party, And I Love Her, I Need You (not acoustic but super calm).
GOD THIS TOOK A WHILE. I also for whatever reason decided not to repeat a single song lmao. Hope this is helpful.

Lukadrien: Zebras Can’t Change Their Stripes: Chapter Two
Read it on AO3: Zebras Can’t Change Their Stripes: Chapter Two
Luka looked different.
Not exactly in a bad way. Sure, his appearance was a little disheveled, and he didn’t look like he’d been sleeping or eating well lately, but Josie had said that he was going through a breakup, so that made sense. He didn’t look like he was a perpetual wreck…just that he was having a hard time at the moment.
He was slightly more muscular than Adrien remembered and maybe a little taller too. His hair was jet black now and kind of long on top with an undercut just in back. He had more ear piercings, and Adrien was sure he’d probably picked up another tattoo or two in the past four years.
The eyes were the same cool, relaxing blue, though, and his face was relatively unchanged save for a few lines here and there that either hadn’t existed or hadn’t been as noticeable before.
Adrien would recognize Luka’s face anywhere, though. You didn’t just forget the face of the person who made you rethink your sexuality.
“Luka?” he whispered, fear and dread and excitement lighting up every nerve in his body.
He was screwed. Luka knew who he was. Luka could tell the rest of the band before Adrien was ready.
He’d just had an epiphany about fixing his life and reconnecting with old friends and reaching out for help, but he wasn’t actually prepared to do anything about those things yet. This was too soon. He couldn’t—
“—Whoa there,” Luka interrupted Adrien’s runaway train of thought, holding up his hands in a placating gesture. “I come in peace, I swear. I didn’t want to make a scene back there because I figured, if you were using a pseudonym, you wouldn’t want me to out you, but I wanted to talk to you.”
Adrien’s shoulders started to hunch up defensively, expecting the worst.
His father had hurt Luka and Luka’s family, and while it had never occurred to Adrien that Luka might take out his grievances on Adrien, it certainly wasn’t outside the realm of possibility. Adrien had seen perfectly nice people turn into ogres as soon as they found out Adrien’s true identity.
“How are you doing?” Luka asked, voice overflowing with concern as he took in Adrien’s appearance at close range, scrutinizing.
Adrien blinked in surprise because that was one of the last things he had expected to come out of Luka’s mouth.
“I’m…okay,” he answered disjointedly, still trying to get his thoughts together. “Why are you asking me that?”
Now it was Luka’s turn to blink at Adrien incredulously.
“I mean…I haven’t seen you in four years, and I’ve been worried sick,” he scoffed, hand going to his hip. “Adrien, you disappeared on us. No one got to talk to you and make sure you were okay before you left for London. You didn’t reply to any of our texts or emails. You didn’t pick up your phone, and then we found out from your cousin that you’d run away and no one knew where you were.”
Adrien averted his gaze, staring down at the sidewalk. He’d always felt guilty for disappearing like that, but…he just couldn’t deal with anyone at that point. Only now was he beginning to feel like he might be ready, but he still wasn’t completely sure.
“Of course I want to know how you’re doing,” Luka continued in exasperation. “I’ve spent the past four years scared that you were dead or-or worse. I care about you.”
Adrien’s eyes snapped back up to Luka’s to see the earnestness there.
It just about knocked him flat.
“You do?” he whispered, wanting to believe it.
“Oh my God, Adrien,” Luka hissed, stepping in and roughly pulling Adrien into a tight hug. “Yes. I love you. You’re a precious friend. A lot of people are worried sick and want to know you’re okay.”
“Oh,” Adrien breathed, letting himself sink into Luka’s arms. “I didn’t realize… I wasn’t thinking about…”
“It’s okay,” Luka whispered, giving Adrien’s hair a comforting nuzzle. “The important thing is that you’re safe. I’m just so glad that you’re safe.”
Tentatively, Adrien let his arms wrap around Luka, returning the hug.
The relief he experienced then was almost overwhelming. The warmth of another person, the protective shelter of Luka’s arms…it felt so good.
It had been so long since the last time Adrien had been able to relax his guard like that.
Luka pulled back with a warm, fond smile. “Want to get lunch together and catch up? Or did you have something else you needed to do?”
Adrien hesitated, thinking of his dwindling funds. He didn’t have money for food and lodgings.
He bit his lip. “I actually already ate before the audition, but I could just get a coffee or something. I’d like to talk.”
“Awesome,” Luka responded with a dazzling grin, feeling better than he had since The Breakup.
“You’re sure you don’t want to get a pastry or something?” Luka arched an eyebrow when Adrien really did just order an expresso. “I seem to remember you having quite the sweet tooth.”
Adrien forced a smile.
In truth, he’d kill for a hot chocolate and a pain au chocolat or something. He’d even settle for a fresh croissant, but he had to budget if he wanted to make it to his first payday with the band.
“I’m good, really,” he insisted.
Luka easily shrugged the matter off, far more interested in getting Adrien’s story out of him. “So where have you been these past four years?”
Adrien fingered his waterglass nervously as he tried to decide what to share. “I’ve been around,” he informed vaguely. “After I left London, I headed to Marseille…Nice, Lyon…Strasbourg. I’ve just been travelling around, seeing the country.”
“Huh,” Luka hummed. “That sounds nice, actually. I’m glad you’re finally getting to travel. I know you didn’t get out much before.”
Adrien nodded, keeping his polite smile in place.
Part of him felt dishonest for purposely misleading Luka into thinking he’d just been off gallivanting, but he wasn’t quite ready yet to confess how destitute he was.
“I just needed some time on my own,” he explained. “I’m kind of…you know…finding myself, I guess?”
Luka nodded. “So how long are you back in Paris, do you think? Have you been back long?”
Adrien shook his head. “I just got into town two days ago. I’m hoping to stay long-term, but I don’t really know yet.”
“What do you do for work?” Luka inquired, gazing at Adrien with interest as he leaned his elbows on the table. “You were getting your degree in Business, weren’t you?”
Adrien looked away. “Uh…I do this and that. I move around a lot, so having a stable job for more than a few months hasn’t really been a thing. I…”
He chewed on his lip, debating. “…I actually didn’t get to finish school. I was right in the middle of my degree program when my father was arrested, and things just…” He shook his head. “My world got a little upended, and I never made it back to school.”
He couldn’t afford it. The Agreste fortune was gone, and the money that Gabriel had said he’d been putting in trust as payment for Adrien’s work as a model for the company had never existed. There had been no accounts in his name, only his father’s, and that all got sapped up with the rest of the assets.
“I’m sorry,” Luka responded with a worried frown. “Do you think that’s something you’ll do now that you’re planning on being in one place for a while?”
“I’d like to go back to school,” Adrien answered truthfully. “Maybe someday…. But tell me about you. How are you? How’s your family? What are you up to nowadays?” he asked in rapid-fire succession, anxious to get the focus off of himself.
More than that, though, he really wanted to know what Luka had been doing the past four years. He wanted to catch up with his friend and get back in the loop so that he could start feeling like a part of Luka’s life again.
Long ago, they’d been thick as thieves, and Adrien craved that kind of intimacy. He would love to be close to someone again.
He listened intently as Luka told him about the bands he’d been in, about picking up violin and piano, his reconciliation with his biological father.
“At first I was thinking I didn’t want anything to do with him out of principle,” Luka explained. “I mean, he didn’t bother acknowledging me for twenty-three years; why should I acknowledge him? But then I started thinking, ‘Well, why shouldn’t I take his money? Don’t Maman and Juleka and I deserve it? It’s not just for me. He owes us this’.”
Adrien nodded in agreement. “Absentee parents are the worst. It’s not like money is enough to make up for the gaping hole in your life where he was supposed to be, so I don’t see a problem with you taking as much as he’ll give you. You’re not sacrificing your principles; you’re just taking a small fraction of what he owes you.”
“Yeah, I felt better when I started thinking about it like that too,” Luka confessed. “…Though…I’ve actually been having dinner with him and his family occasionally.”
Adrien’s eyes widened. “Oh? And…how is that going?”
A sheepish smile started to stretch across Luka’s lips. “Pretty well? I mean, it’s really surreal, but…” He shrugged. “Penny is awesome. She’s been invaluable as far as giving advice for my own career and making introductions and stuff like that. Their kids are also really cute. I kind of love them.”
Luka pulled out his phone and quickly found a picture of his half-sisters. “Michelle and Eleanor.” He pointed to the five- and three-year-old girls with cappuccino skin and big, expressive brown eyes. “Named after the Beatles songs, of course.”
“Aww,” Adrien cooed. “They’re adorable.”
“He’s actually a really good dad to them,” Luka admitted, even though it pained him. “That helped me forgive him somewhat. It makes me think that, maybe, if he had known about me, maybe he would have been a good dad to me too.”
Adrien smiled sympathetically and nodded, handing back the phone. “I’ve only interacted with him a couple of times, but he doesn’t seem like a bad, malicious person. Careless and distractable maybe, but…not bad, so…maybe you’re right.”
“But we’ll never know,” Luka sighed, shrugging again as he put away his phone. “I guess all I can do is see what he does going forward. Maman and Juleka were always enough family for me. It sucked sometimes not having a dad in my life, but I never felt like I needed him to complete me or anything. I don’t need him now either, but…it’s nice to be able to reach out and talk to him if I feel like it. I like that it’s on my terms.”
“I’m really happy for you,” Adrien replied with a sincere smile.
His own life and relationship with his father were rubbish, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t happy for Luka. He wanted good things for Luka. Luka was a wonderful person, and he deserved happiness in his life.
“Thanks.” Luka returned the smile, thinking about how lucky he was to have things that Adrien never would. “Seriously. That really means a lot.”
Adrien shrugged and was about to say something when the food arrived, completely distracting him.
Catching sight of the ravenous look on Adrien’s face, Luka arched an eyebrow. “Are you sure you don’t want to order something?”
Adrien quickly snapped his poker face back into place. “No. I’m good. I just ate.”
He smiled innocently and took a sip of his espresso.
Adrien’s stomach let out a loud roar of protest.
Luka frowned.
Blushing, Adrien drained his water glass, hoping that giving his stomach something at least would make it shut up.
Luka pursed his lips. “…I think your stomach is ready to be fed again.”
“I’m really not hungry,” Adrien mumbled into his glass.
He could feel his ears starting to heat up in shame.
“…Are you sure? Because I don’t actually think I can eat all of this croque madame on my own,” Luka tried an alternative route, beginning to suspect the problem. “If you could split it with me so that it doesn’t go to waste, that would be awesome.”
Adrien looked up at Luka suspiciously. “You’re not going to eat all of it?”
Luka shook his head, pushing the plate across the table.
“Well, if you’re sure.” Adrien only hesitated a moment before taking half of the admittedly large sandwich.
It took an enormous amount of self-control not to scarf it down like a starving wolf because that was exactly what Adrien felt like.
Luka picked up his own half of the sandwich and chewed at it as he watched Adrien thoughtfully.
He waited until Adrien had finished to say anything. “…When was the last time you actually had a decent meal?”
Adrien blinked at Luka in surprised confusion. “I…I just ate earlier.”
Luka shook his head. “Adrien, you’re even thinner now than when you were a model. What’s going on? Why aren’t you eating?”
“I am eating,” Adrien argued fruitlessly, unwilling to drop pretenses and let Luka see what shambles his life was in.
Luka gave Adrien a look that told him that Luka could see right through him. “You’re a vegetarian. For the six years I knew you, whenever you had any say about what you ate, you always ate vegetarian because your mother traumatized you when you were little. Yes, you would eat chicken or pork or whatever if it was put in front of you, but you never enjoyed it, and you always picked at it. I just watched you inhale a ham sandwich like it was the most delicious thing you had had all month. Now, what’s going on?”
The hair rose on the back of Adrien’s neck, and his shoulders scrunched up to his ears.
Tears began to sting back behind his eyes as he realized he’d been tricked.
Still, he didn’t have it in him to admit defeat. He couldn’t stand to have Luka look down on him. That was why he’d never wanted to turn to anyone from his old life for help. He couldn’t bear for them to know how bad it really was and think less of him for it.
Everything else had been taken away from him; he couldn’t give up his dignity too.
“Nothing is going on,” he insisted, voice trembling.
Luka took a deep breath and reached across the table, resting his hand on top of Adrien’s. “Perfect Fifth?” he pleaded gently, using a nickname Adrien hadn’t heard in years and hadn’t realized until that moment how much he’d yearned for it.
“Talk to me. Please,” Luka entreated, eyes soft and inviting. “I’m really worried about you.”
The tears started to fall as Adrien’s resolve shattered completely. He couldn’t do this anymore. He needed help. He needed to feel safe. He needed Luka to wrap him up in another hug and make things feel okay again.
“I don’t have any money,” Adrien hiccupped. “Like…none.”
It started as a trickle, but once Adrien got going, the dam burst, and he found himself confessing everything: “Father never put money in an account for me like he said he would. After he was arrested, they froze all of our assets, and then everything got eaten up in the litigation. There’s nothing left. I couldn’t afford to pay for university, and my aunt was really resentful of me staying with her, and it hurt too much anyway because she and Maman are twins. Whenever she’d say passive-aggressive things with my mother’s face, it really messed with my head, so I stole some money from her and left, but it’s really hard to find a job where you don’t have to fill out paperwork, and no one wants to hire Adrien Agreste,” he lamented bitterly, “so I’ve been washing dishes and cleaning hotel rooms and working in laundry rooms and kitchens and-and I’ve thought about becoming a sex worker because then maybe I could earn some decent money and not have to eat out of dumpsters or sleep on the street ever again, but I’m asexual, and I just-I just can’t,” Adrien choked.
Luka sat there stunned for a moment, trying to process everything Adrien had said. He quickly decided that processing fully would have to wait until later because Adrien needed Luka to jump in and do something four years ago, so there really wasn’t time to spare.
“Shhh,” Luka cooed, taking both of Adrien’s hands in his and rubbing his thumbs back and forth against Adrien’s skin soothingly. “It’s okay. It’s going to be okay, so just take some deep breaths, all right?”
Adrien nodded slowly, making an effort to compose himself.
“Where are you staying right now?” Luka inquired pragmatically.
“A hostel,” Adrien replied. “In Pigalle. It’s just a couple blocks from the Moulin Rouge.”
“How long do you think you can afford to stay there and pay for meals?” Luka pressed.
Adrien looked away. “It’s one or the other. I can stay there one more night and get some snacks to tide me over the rest of the week, or I can eat regular meals and sleep rough.”
“Okay. No,” Luka decided. “You’re coming home with me.”
Adrien blinked at him. “Sorry…. What?”
“My apartment has an extra bedroom. I used to have a roommate, but she moved back to Nice to help out with her sick grandma five or six months ago, and she’s not coming back,” Luka quickly explained. “You’re coming to live with me until you’re back up on your feet and feel like getting your own place.”
Adrien pulled his hands back away from Luka, frowning and shaking his head. “I don’t want your pity.”
Luka clicked his tongue, taking one of Adrien’s hands back forcefully. “This isn’t pity. This is what friendship looks like…. I have a feeling it’s been a while since you’ve experienced it, so I’m reminding you of how it works. We’re friends; therefore, I care about what happens to you and want to make sure you’re okay. I have enough crap going on in my own life without having to worry about you sleeping in alleys and passing out from hunger. Do me a favour and make my life less stressful. Come live with me so I know for sure that you’re not lying dead in a gutter somewhere. These past four years have been really hard, Adrien.”
Adrien’s jaw went slack, and his mouth dropped open. “…You actually care about me, don’t you?”
Luka nodded, giving a tired smile. “Very much. So, what do you say?”
Adrien inhaled slowly, trying to piece together fragmented thoughts. “…If you really don’t mind. If I wouldn’t be in your way.”
“Adrien, you would be doing me a favour. I’m serious,” Luka insisted.
Adrien pursed his lips. “…Okay,” he finally agreed, still not certain this was a good idea but knowing that it would be better than continuing to try to go it on his own.
“Good.” Luka’s face brightened as he squeezed Adrien’s hand and then let go. “Thank you. Now, let me flag down a waiter and have him bring us another menu. I’m actually starving because I woke up at noon and haven’t eaten all day, and I have a feeling you could eat more too.”
Adrien frowned, not understanding. “But…I can’t afford…?”
Luka waved Adrien’s protests away. “Until further notice, your expenses are my concern. Order whatever you want.”
The furrows in Adrien’s brow deepened. “I couldn’t possibly—”
“—How long has it been since you had a hot chocolate? A crêpe with chocolate sauce and ice cream and whipped cream?” Luka tempted.
Adrien thought very hard for a moment, trying to decide if his principles and pride were worth more than the luxury of eating something just because it tasted good.
His stomach won out, and Adrien decided that maybe it would be okay to be kept by Luka. There were worse things in life.
“Okay,” Adrien agreed, making a big show of how reluctant he was to do so. “I think I see your point.”
Luka’s impish smirk turned affectionate. “Seriously. Get whatever you want, but don’t eat too much so that you make yourself sick. I’m not going to let you go hungry, okay? You’re always going to have food from now on. Youre safe.”
It had been a long time since Adrien had last felt safe. It was a huge relief to know that feeling again.
“Thanks,” he whispered weakly, tears threatening to overwhelm him yet again.

Movies I watched this week - 25
Was 1973 the greatest year in cinema?
Besides the ones below, 1973 was also the year of The Holy Mountain, Day for Night, Mean Streets, Badlands, La Planete Sauvage, Paper Moon, Scenes from a Marriage, Amarcord, Oh Lucky Man, American Graffiti, Enter the Dragon, The Sting, The Exorcist...
✳️✳️✳️ 1973: The Spirit Of The Beehive (El espíritu de la colmena) - one of the most beautiful Spanish films of all time.
It’s 1940, and six-year-old Anna lives with her family in an isolated Castilian village. A mobile cinema truck bring Frankenstein to the village.
Quiet, symbolic and deeply moving.
The trailer.
✳️✳️✳️ 1973: The Last Detail, written by Robert Towne, with Jack Nicholson at his peak and with cameos by Gilda Radner, Nancy Allen and Carol Kane. 9/10
“Welcome to the wonderful world of pussy, kid..”
Going to watch the few other Hal Ashby films again.
✳️✳️✳️ 1973: Critically-acclaimed Robert Altman’s anachronistic neo-noir The Long Goodbye, with chain smoking Elliott Gould as unconvincing and bumbling Philip Marlowe.
Also, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first movie appearance.
✳️✳️✳️ 1973! I don’t know why I haven’t revisited Don’t Look Now for at least 15 years: I always considered it to be Nicolas Roeg’s best film, but it’s actually one of the greatest films I ever saw! Cinematically, emotionally, with extraordinary sound editing (The first 8 min.! The dressing / undressing scene!)..
With Renato Scarpa as the police inspector: ”AH! MIS-ter BAX-ter!”
Simply perfect!
✳️✳️✳️ 1973: In La Grande Bouffe four friends, Marcello, Ugo, Michel and Philippe (played by Marcello Mastroianni, Ugo Tognazzi, Michel Piccoli, Philippe Noiret) decide to binge-eat themselves to death on fine cuisine. A decadent and perverted food and sex orgy, full of excess and anarchy that doesn’t end until the last one shits himself to death. But why?
Bon appétit!
✳️✳️✳️ 1973: Honest cop and whistleblower Serpico fights obsessively against systemic corruption at the New York Police Department.
With Who’s Who of the time in small parts: Hank Garrett, ‘The Mailman’ from ‘Three days of the Condor’, Jack Kehoe, Midnight Run’s ‘Jerry’, James Tolkan as Steiger, M. Emmet Walsh, F. Murray Abraham, John Randolph, Allan Rich ...
✳️✳️✳️ 1973 / First watch - The Wicker Man, a British folk horror number about a Christian copper vs. a Scottish village of pagan heathens. With younger Christopher Lee in a hippie drag.
It had a unique way of combing folk songs, sung by the characters, nearly like a strange musical.
✳️✳️✳️ 1973: Westworld, the robots malfunction and revolt at a futuristic, adult-themed amusement park. Yul Brynner as the original Terminator. 3/10.
✴️
Queen of Hearts, a complex erotic drama by Danish-Egyptian director May el-Toukhy. An illicit affair between gorgeous Trine Dyrholm and her stepson Gustav Lindh (From Riders of Justice!). Shockingly explicit sex and unexpected third act reverse expectations and sympathies.
Best film of the week!
✴️
Jackie Chan’s 1985 Police Story, a “broadly” choreographed slapstick / martial arts film. With young and chubby-faced Maggie Cheung, before she became world-class gorgeous.
✴️
This isn't a rental car - it's privately owned.
How come I’ve never seen David Byrne’s True Stories before? Written by Ned Ryerson himself. Kooky characters in small town Vernon, TX. inspired by actual supermarket tabloid stories. Like Nashville for the 80′s..
✴️
Crimes and Misdemeanors, a classic Woody Allen nihilist drama with a dual storyline that still holds its power.
“The eyes of God are always watching us” .
Toddler Dylan Farrow appears in a cameo at the wedding, and a distinct sub-plot has Allen wooing his teenage niece by taking her to see old movies and buying her art books... So, yuck to that part.
✴️
“It’s good to be king.”
Mel Brooks’ 40 year old class-conscience History of the world, Part 1 - narrated by Orson Welles, with cameos by John Hurt as Jesus and Hugh Hefner, who also supplied the harem of vestal virgins. While ‘The Meaning of Life’ which came 2 years later was about philosophy, this was about history.
But everybody had such pearly white teeth.
✴️
I started watching Jojo Rabbit 3 times before I could finish this pretentious Holocaust comedy of revisionist Nazi-chic cuteness. A ten-year-old Hitler Youth boy finds out that his mother, Scarlett Johansson, is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. Kitschy, cowardly and lazy. This is not ‘The Great Dictator’ or ‘The Producers’, or even ‘Look who’s back’. It’s Hitler 101 explained to 10 year olds who never heard of him.
I wonder how they got the rights to The Beatles and Bowie songs.
Also, Hitler was not a smoker. 2/10. (Photo above)
✴️
Picked up a random Apple’s TV series, Home before dark, about a 9 year old girl playing a journalist. I tried to get into it, and saw 2.5 episodes, but it was so ordinary, and soul-less, and full of teenager flick cliches, that I had to quit. Even the Jason Robards quotes from ‘All the President’s Men’ couldn’t help it. PASS!
✴️
✳️✳️✳️ Woodward and Bernstein X 2
So, prompted by the series above, I watched All the President's Men again (for the 10? time). What a masterful film! Romancing investigative journalism never looked so good.
With a script by William Goldman, cinematography by Gordon Willis, and Robert Walden playing Donald Segretti.
The sparse score by Michael Small, who was Pakula’s go-to composer (and which I already mentioned here earlier)! Compared to his Parallax View theme.
True fact: Frank Wills, the black security guard who discovered the break-in, was fired without explanation a few days later. He was out of work for three years until he played himself (one day's work) in this film, and never had a full-time job again, until his death in 2000, at the age of 52.
✳️✳️✳️ Also, All the President's Men Revisited, a 2012 documentary featuring all the players, and just before Trump, so they all could comfortably predict that Watergate will happen again, but none of them realized how terribly soon it will be.
✴️
The company Men is about 3 senior executives trying to survive during the financial crisis of 2010 after getting fired, downsized, becoming redundant.
The Corporate-speak sounded fake, and Ben Affleck is not a good actor, so it wasn’t too engaging. 3/10

1. Who's your favorite historical figure ?
this is really hard because i have a different one almost every month lmao some figures i've been fascinated by in the past have been louise michel, samora machel, robespierre, victor serge, camilo cienfuegos, simón radowitzky, flora tristán and enheduanna. For the sake of the question i'm gonna say Mariano Moreno my beloved.
2. What's your favorite historical subject ?
this could mean a lot of things, I'm gonna try and answer in different ways. In general terms anything to do with microhistory and alltagsgeschichte. If we're talking about frames with which to understand history, then class struggle. Topics I enjoy the most are revolutions, history of religion, anything to do with political domination through religion, and then mythology and how it expresses society. If it's specifically about places and times I really like Indian history, history of the precolonial Americas (i like mesoamerica the most), early contemporary french history (IM SORRY), classical (mostly greece but i like roman history too), ancient egypt and above everything ancient mesopotamia. i like sumer the most but it's all cool as shit
6. What's your favorite piece of historical fiction (book, film, series, etc) ?
oof there's a lot to choose from. lets say black sails. oh about books i really cannot recommend ursula k le guin's lavinia enough
7. What's your favorite song dealing with history / your favorite piece of historical music ?
this is a fascinating question off the top of my head i cant think of any song dealing with history?? or rather the few i can think of i dont like very much. also from what point can something be considered historical music? are the beatles historical music? anyways if it counts i'm gonna go for leon rosselson's song of the old communist it makes me cry every single time
14. What's the closest object related to history around you right now ? Books don't count, because it's too easy !
i have a volcanic rock from pompeii that i brought back with me from my trip to italy! i treasure it look at that tiny rock it's so important. also my tiny miniature guillotine, it gives me life
16. Do you think history is lead by great men ?
