@pillowspace another snippet for the time loops
You know this game by heart. Moon is behind you, above you, and you know if you slow down, he'll swoop down and grab you by the arms. His fingers aren't clawed, but they're thin and they hurt and you can still feel the bruising that's no longer there.
You duck to one side, hitting your shoulder on an arcade cabinet. It hurts, but it's the only way to pivot and shine your flashlight directly in Moon's face.
"Brat!" He hisses and recoils, shielding his face with his arms. "Naughty brat, how dare you!"
It's hard not to laugh, a little giddy with your success. "Moon, you don't have to do this. We're friends!"
You can see his eyes shining in the darkness, but when you flash your light his way, he's gone. Your shoulder throbs and you spin in a circle, but he's nowhere to be found. With a sigh, you lower your flashlight, looking around. Oh, you're in the West Arcade. DJ's probably asleep. Probably a good thing since you shouldn't be here so late and he'd likely get one of the security bots and you'd lose your job and --
Your hearing aid gives a high pitched shriek and you clap a hand over it, dropping your flashlight. It hits your foot, the light flickering on and blinding you. Great, so now your foot, ear, and shoulder hurt.
You pull your hearing aid off, but the shrieking doesn't stop. It's Moon again; he hadn't fled after all. You blink, rubbing at your eyes as the flashlight continues to flicker, keeping Moon at bay. There's another sound, too deep and low to properly hear, just felt in your chest.
"Moon, are you okay?" You're still holding your hearing aid in your hand, and you kick the flashlight away. It's clear the light hurts him, and you, no. That's your friend.
Even without the flashlight, you can still make Moon's face and hands out clearly. You reach out to him with your free hand, flinching when he lashes out with a clawed hand. "Moon, it's all right, the flashlight is off. I just want to help."
Moon glares at you, and he looks positively evil with the red light cast from above. Red light? There's no... oh no.
The DJ's awake. You fumble with your hearing aid, trying to put it back on and wincing when it shrieks again. You hadn't bothered turning it off and it clearly didn't appreciate that. The DJ's awake and if he's awake now, it would be in bouncer mode.
You didn't want to meet him again.
"Moon!" You can hear again, but when you turn to where he'd been, Moon is gone. Properly gone this time, frightened away by the pain of the lights. "Moon, I need your help!"
You can't outrun DJ. You still try. You still have to try. Because if you can survive tonight, then you can stop the fire. And if you stop the fire, then the loop will stop and Sun and Moon will be okay.
So you just have to take one more step. And another, despite the pain in your lungs. When you reach the edge of the stairs, you're prepared to jump.
You're not prepared for the sudden jerk on the back of your sweater forcing you up. And doubly not prepared for the metal hand clapping over your mouth, silencing your surprised shriek.

It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t the life he had hoped for. But it was a life that was livable, most days. The grief of missing his family faded to a dull ache, throbbing in the scar tissue between his ribs. He chose to give them up just like he chose to give his kidney up, and getting them back was just as impossible as regrowing the missing organ.
And then Jiang Cheng showed up unexpectedly at his work and punched him square in his jaw.
surprising no one, my first fic for the untamed is about tragic siblings. because of course it is. this google doc was titled "thanks for the kidney i hate it" <3

hngh. okay first rant post I just think amoneki is so insane especially for how much they care and respect for each other right up until the very end like???
okay first of all there's obviously the way that they outright say (even if it's not directly to each other) that they don't want the other to die
Also the fact that Amon tells Kaneki to take a Break. In the middle of a fight. (Which also adds him to the pool of characters that are trying to tell Kaneki to tell him to just let himself rest for once (who he does Not listen to))
Also the fact that when Kaneki deals his first (and only) potentially fatal blow to Amon Ever, instead of feeling betrayed by the fact that he was trying to avoid attacking him before or thinking "Oh so this is where he finally tries to actually kill me" Amon just calls Kaneki strong. He Cut Off His Arm and Amon's first thought is just to say that he thinks he's strong, even if this should technically be a sort of betrayal to all their previous encounters and a Contradiction to what Amon observed at the beginning of this fight about how Kaneki really wasn't planning on killing him (it's like even though this happened he knows deep down that it wasn't with a real killing Intent).
He doesn't even think about himself or that he might Actually Die he's just thinking about Kaneki even right then and afterwards
(ohhh my god I hate Amon (/affecionate) I have so many Thoughts about him especially thoughts Specifically about how he has a sort of idealized version of Kaneki in his head from the few times they've interacted I could talk about it for Hours (but then I'm gonna be here for ages and I will get So off track) )
And it's also about the fact that. In his final thoughts/words in tg Kaneki opens up with Amon's words; these are his words that have been stuck in his head ever since he first heard them and they are some of the last words he clings to before he's "erased". (When I first saw that line near the opening of the final chapter I almost lost my Shit) Like,
It's about how even up until the end they're thinking about what they said to each other at that first encounter by the river
It's about how much impact they've had and Continue to have on each other even when they're basically Dying (and it's partially the others' fault)
It's about the actually Insane amount of parallels and the flipping of their situations between their first encounter and their last (in the original series)
It's about how neither of them deal the killing blow in an "unfair" fight (when the other is basically disarmed) but once they're on equal grounds that's the closest they've come to Actually killing the other and even then they don't want that to Actually happen and both hold onto that same thought
It's about how the natural thing would be for them to just fight and/or kill the other without a thought but they don't because "This guy's Different"
Enemies to It's Complicated. Enemies to you-have-impacted-my-worldview-in-irreversible-ways-and-I-wish-I-could-just-sit-down-and-talk-with-you-but-can't
Enemies to I-should-hate-you-because-you-(technically indirectly)-caused-the-death-of-someone-I-cared-about-but-also-your-words-won't-leave-my-head-and-I-want-to-know-more-about-you-also-I-don't-want-to-kill-you-but-you're-not-leaving-me-much-choice
Amoneki divorce has me so fucked up

This is niche (maybe) but please share more about ice and mav at Oshkosh!! Do they go yearly? Or just the one time? Are they part of any aviation enthusiast communities???
yes yes yes!!! going to air shows is 100% a date for both of them. i feel like: a couple things:
- they’ve both probably seen the blue angels so many times it’s not super exciting anymore, and until they retire & become private citizens it’s also too big of a Thing for them to go, so they try to go to civilian/private air shows if they can
- one exception is fleet week for obvious rzns. They both probably have to do shit for fleet week on the reg. Ice especially
- i do keep thinking it would be funny for mav to do like a two year tour with the BAs at some point but there wasn’t room for that in the narrative so it’s Schrödinger’s headcanon
- before they retire their schedules are super crazy packed & don’t always line up, even if they request certain dates (like each other’s birthdays, Xmas, thanksgiving, Oshkosh etc) off in advance, so Oshkosh specifically doesn’t become yearly until after they retire. But after they retire they do annually fly in to Oshkosh in their p-51. lots of picnic lunch breaks in Reno/Omaha/Boise etc
- theyve been to the big international air shows (farnborough, Paris, NOT dubai for security/gay people issues, etc) together a couple times when they can swing it. (Me looking for any excuse to send them back to europe on vacation) but before they retire it’s also probably a Thing. So Thing-ness (public & Navy engagement etc) has to be accounted for when they’re planning their trip. they do have a responsibility to rep the Navy as best as they can etc etc
- Thing-ness also has to be accounted for when joining aviation enthusiast groups… after they retire & get married hell yes!!! they probably have a ton of civilian aviation friends & are pretty involved. not before their marriage though. It takes a while for them to come out of the hidden little shell they’ve been living in for thirty years & make friends as a real couple. but they do eventually.

basically big time rush is the monkees if the monkees had been made within the confines of Respectable Television. BTR (the show) has four young people who are a band. The Monkees The Show has four young people who are in a band. However. The Monkees The Show has more intrigue because:
a) they're pretty much self-reliant within the television show story ("the product"). They have one authority figure (their landlord Mr. Babbitt) who they only answer to when it's funny OR if they want to (see also: my whole Thing about Millie from s1 e27 and how the monkee characters' whims can influence the plot) AND
b) they're pretty much doing Whatever the Fuck the creative team ("the production") can come up with.
In BTR there are not one, not two, but at least 3 or 4 authority figures limiting the main four characters when it comes to what they can do, when, where, and what the consequences for any of their actions will be (Kendall's mom (aka the fourth confirmed "jennifer" in the show for some reason?? literally everyone and their mother??? is named jennifer????), their boss Gustavo, their boss's assistant Kelly, their boss's boss Griffin, their landlord Mr. Bitters, and what the hell, may as well throw Katie Knight in there too. fuck it.).
Meanwhile, day-to-day, The Monkees The Show Characters have................. mike. And mike is a six-foot-tall anthropomorphized teacup chihuahua experiencing costco wholesale for the first time at rush hour.
The production style in BTR is also extremely inorganic compared to The Monkees' more improvisational style. Every shot, every reaction, every expression any character makes is VERY tightly directed and stylistic. Each frame is carefully formulated to fit the style of what A Nickelodeon Sitcom is. Which, yes, is Interesting. But that's not what this post is about.
basically what I'm saying is, the monkees worked because the characters were fucking around and finding out (while still being at least somewhat-omnipotent forces within the narratives they were experiencing, regardless of whether or not they were aware of it), and BTR is a milk-warm xerox copy of the general idea with WAY more restrictions placed on the characters.
