Do you have a favourite dish/food? Can you share about it and maybe how it is made as well?
Ciao!
I have loads of different fav dishes/foods tbh hehe :D it also depends on if you rather first course, second course, soups, pasta, rice, meat, fish.... We tend to eat by having different courses (at least as a general rule -also in restaurants/hotels- and on special days like Christmas could be: appetizers, first course, second course + vegetables, cheese, fruits, dessert, coffee/digestif).
Anyway. Hmm... I'll mention pasta ai 4 formaggi (pasta with 4 cheeses. I also like rice with cheese tbh). But if you're curious about something else, let me know (btw there must be a spaghetti al pomodoro recipe already on this blog).
So put water to boil in a pot, with a bunch of salt (coarse): it should taste almost like the sea. I sadly cannot give you proportion according on how big the pot is and how much water you add (better if you add quite a good amount, eg. if you're cooking for 4 people you may want to use a medium pot almost entirely filled), I was never given myself either but I always taste water (when I change the pot and type of water) after the salt is melted.
Then you can start preparing your cheese. I tend to go honestly by heart when it comes to quantities (but here you can find another recipe with quantities + videos and images -that blog is quite famous so you can check around it for more). I usually choose two hard cheese and two soft ones to have a more creamy result (for example I use Montasio and a Toma, Ricotta and Gorgonzola), but you can do as you rather ofc. I cut the hard ones in small pieces and put them in a bowl with some milk; then put that bowl over another pot with boiling water to melt (bain-marie). When these are melted I add the other two cheese (I cut the Gorgonzola too, somehow, especially to clean it from the external parts while I use a spoon for the Ricotta). Add milk if the cream is too dense: I suggest you to not add too much milk and just add it gradually when you need. Also, when you add the cream to the pasta it will become sliiightly more dense cause of the pasta itself releasing a thickener.
When the salted water is boiling, add your pasta. A short type of pasta works better with this recipe, but it's even. When the pasta is cooked (if you rather it very al dente, follow the instruction on the box, if not, leave it to boil for 3-5 minutes more). Then drain the pasta, put it in a bowl (only cause the one with the cheese is HOT atm), pour the cheese cream on it and mix. Ready to serve. (Ofc you can still add Parmigiano grattugiato if you want, even if it makes for a 5th cheese but it's personal taste). You can let it rest a few minutes (just don't let it turn cold). Generally when I have leftovers in the evening it tastes even better (I warm pasta bain-marie before having it and only eventually add a liiittle bit of milk, but it's okay even without it).
I don't prepare the cream in the pan cause it may burn and also it's not a that fundamental step in this recipe to have the passage of mixing pasta with the cream in the pan. The result is good anyway.
Let me know if you have questions or want to know about another recipe!

My Chrissy Cunningham headcanons
Tumblr media
𝘿𝙄𝙎𝘾𝙇𝘼𝙄𝙈𝙀𝙍 : these are “my” head canons for Chrissy, we might not all agree on something about her so pls don’t get offended by any of these, please and thank you. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
♥︎Favorite movie is Grease
♥︎Favorite Holiday is Christmas, can't change my mind.
♥︎100% that person who sings in the shower, im not sure if anyone else has said that but i 100% believe she is that person.
♥︎We have seen that girl go to hell and back in matter of one episode, we seen the way she panics so i can hc that she fiddles with her sweaters and sleeves when she is nervous or starting to have a panic attack.
♥︎I feel like this girl knits, like i feel like her role model in life was her grandma before she passed away and she would always knit things for Chrissy from hats, blankets, socks, etc. After her grandma passed Chrissy learned how to knit and now it's one of her comfort hobbies.
♥︎Best baker ever. Not so much a great cook but when it comes to baking...that girl is a freaking god.
♥︎Her favorite movie might be Grease but her comfort movie is The Breakfast Club.
♥︎Her favorite ice cream flavor is either strawberry or vanilla bean.
♥︎Has a collection of bows, from different sizes, colors, and even textures/fabrics
♥︎Something tells me she was Pansexual but of course it was the 80s so she never told a soul about her slight attraction to girls.
♥︎Comfort food is homemade soup, usually chicken noodle or Italian wedding soup.
♥︎This girl has trauma, we all saw that, and we saw she was obviously afraid of her mother, i have a feeling her mother was mentally and possibly physically abusive. She was strict and was 100% one of those moms that told her child that they belonged in a kitchen, cooking and cleaning for their' loving' husbands.
♥︎Due to that i have a feeling Chrissy wasn't in love with Jason when they first got together and it was set up by her mother and Jason's parents, over time she slowly and truly started to fall for Jason but i don't believe she was truly in love with him in the start.
♥︎Says her favorite color is pink but it's yellow.
♥︎Favorite dessert is either apple pie or chocolate chip cookies
♥︎Favorite band was tears for fears
♥︎Favorite Disney princess is snow white.
♥︎Her happiest memory was when her and her family took a trip to Disney world when she was 12, it was one of her very few good memories she has of her and her mother.
♥︎Loves romance books, books in general but is literally addicted to romance novels.
♥︎Favorite flower is Dandelions
♥︎Has been doing cheer since she was 7 years old, it wasn't something she suddenly picked up when high school came up.
♥︎Big old softie for classic Christmas songs.
♥︎If Chrissy was a song it would be "Resonance" by Home-Odyssey

Recipes for Dove (and others, too)
Tumblr media
This is a small selection of recipes that I put together for @dove-da-birb. They are some of the recipes that I and my family use, mainly vegetarian, but also with a few non-vegetarian options. I tend to adapt these a bit when I make them, usually adding more of the seasonings and aromatics, but the recipes are a good basis to build off of.
The recipes are from The Ultimate Vegetarian Cookbook, The Paleo Diabetes Diet Solution, and a couple websites (which I've linked).
Recipe Websites I Often Use
The 1940s Experiment - A website containing a variety of recipes from 1940s Wartime Britain. They can be a little hit-or-miss, but I linked a few of my favourites below. They're definitely rather British in nature, so may or may not appeal. Many of the recipes are wither vegetarian, or have a vegetarian option.
Just One Cookbook - A HUGE collection of Japanese recipes, from mains, to sides, to desserts, to a whole lot of other dishes. There are a lot of recipes that I've enjoyed from here!
Sides and Starches
Tattie Scones (Tippitiwychett) - I LOVE this recipe. It's just a really good starch to have with a meal!
Mock Black Pudding (The 1940s Experiement) - One of the many "mock" foods of the era, this is a fried, seasoned oat patty. It's nice with either veggies and a protein for dinner, or with eggs and tomatoes for a savoury breakfast.
Lemon Garlic Pasta (Pinch and Swirl) - Just a nice, simple pasta recipe. I generally add some spinach towards the end of the cooking process to wilt a little, and it's also really tasty if made (significantly) spicier. Roasting the garlic beforehand also adds another layer of richness to the dish, but it's not necessary.
Mains (Vegetarian)
Mushroom risotto (Recipe Tin Eats) - I posted about this the other day, but it's a really rather nice recipe if you enjoy risotto and/or mushrooms :)
Mock Goose (the 1940s Experiment) - Not goose, but a baked lentil dish! It's surprisingly nice, especially topped with cheese in the last few minutes of baking.
Mock Crab (The 1940s Experiment) - Again, not crab, but a cheesy scrambled egg dish. It's nice on toast as a quick lunch, with some fresh veg as a side. I would definitely recommend using less margarine/butter, as it can get a bit too oily otherwise.
Masoor Dahl (Choosing Chia) - This is an alright basis for this recipe, but I usually add about double the amount of seasoning (if not more). It's a quick recipe, though, so it's nice in that way.
Tofu Katsu Curry (Okonomi Kitchen) - I'm a HUGE fan of curries, especially Japanese curries. This recipe, with breaded tofu cutlets, is a nice recipe, and I often use it. I usually just make triangles, rather than the "cutlet" shape suggested on the website, and I also make "family style" curry (as in this recipe). (Also, Okonomi Kitchen is another website with a lot of good vegetarian/vegan dishes!)
Curried Squash Soup - I don't remember what this exact recipe is like, but you can alter the seasoning to suit your tastes ^w^ (Using frozen, cubed squash is a really good option here!)
Tumblr media
Vegetarian Bolognese - You can use canned beans instead of dried, and though they won't have the bay leaf flavouring, it's a quicker way to make this sauce. I'd also recommend adding some heat, either with pepper flakes, fresh hot peppers, or canned chipotles.
Tumblr media
Roasted Ratatouille - You can of course just use normal diced tomatoes for this. It won't have the same smokiness, but it's still just as good!
Tumblr media
Mains (non-Vegetarian)
Greek-Style Turkey Burgers - My family makes these into meatballs, usually. They also need more seasoning than is called for in the recipe, by quite a bit. (Mint is also a nice addition to these!)
Tumblr media
Baked Haddock with Peppers and Tomatoes - This recipe is more me just putting the concept in this collection, of white fish baked in a chunky tomato sauce. It's always just a nice, simple meal to have, especially with some rice or wild rice.

Coming For You
A little spice to liven up your Friday? Another groupwrite that ran away on us (into three chapters no less). Always fun to collab with @cat-zchen @chiaztolite @mynightshining and @moon-ion!
Read it on Ao3.
Summary: From the moment she'd been introduced, his response to her had been so visceral that he'd thought himself ill and quickly excused himself. But in the days that followed, he found himself with a flushed face and screaming instincts only in her presence, and Sesshoumaru quickly realized how in trouble he was.
Sneak Peek
"How was the soup?" The aggravating voice of the waiter shattered the delicious imaginings running rampant in his head.
"Tolerable, considering its packaging," he rumbled, entranced by her smile.
The panther youkai chuckled and turned to her. "Your husband has quite the sense of humour."
Higurashi flushed. "Oh, he's not—"
At least the waiter had the grace to flush when he realized his blunder, trying to cover it with a wink. "Well, perhaps the rest of the dinner can change that. I will return with your second course. The dessert has a way of bringing couples together," he added, chuckling. "Particularly those with such strong chemistry." And then he walked away before either of them could respond.
Higurashi's eyes followed the panther youkai, forehead slightly furrowed into a bemused frown. "Strong chemistry?" She looked at him. "What did he mean by that?"
Sesshoumaru's ears tinged red as he poured them another drink of sake. "Who is to say?"
She continued to stare after the waiter, then rested her chin in her hand. "Guess it doesn't matter since you don't have much of a sweet tooth."
It was a lie. He craved it now. She was every bit of sweetness he'd ever desired.
It was in the way she smiled, the way her dark waves framed her face, each bounce allowing her scent to waft behind her as she struggled to control that one lock that always seemed to escape her hairdo when she was concentrating on something.
"Perhaps I will eat it tonight," he heard himself murmur.
She brightened at that, offering a smile sweeter than any dessert the restaurant had on its menu. "Because I'm here?"
The smile felt like a knife plunging into his chest, like an unattainable dream that vanished the moment he opened his eyes. He looked at her, almost helplessly. "What do you want me to say?"
"That you actually enjoy my company and have been avoiding me on purpose."

If you were cooking for a dinner party (and money/space is not a problem), what would you cook? Would you make a playlist? Or maybe put some flowers on the table?
Ah I wishhhhhh I had more time to get into writing a long answer rn instead of getting ready for work bc I love planning imaginary parties so much........ But since money wouldn't be an issue, I'd definitely make baked salmon as main entrée. Just plain salmon I think, with tomatoes most importantly, but also other veggies that taste good baked on their own bc I think it's always fun to put up a plate where guests can just grab whichever veggie they like, as opposed to like... Them being mixed together, so u just grab a spoonful and then someone has to pick out something that they don't like (I always have that issue with onions...). Definitely a dressing on the side, maybe like a herbal/dill one since that goes well with salmon.
And then as an alternative meal, I think I'd serve a huge bowl of tagliatelle (it's such a dinner party pasta!!!) but sauce on the side (I feel like that's always more considerate of guests preference) , probably something with spinach and chicken and mushrooms? Id definitely have to think about what my guests like, and then think of something they'd enjoy too, obviously.... But I think I'd avoid meat in general. Definitely as little dairy as possible, too, so people don't feel too heavy after the meal. Nothing too spicy, either (unless I'm the only one in the company that doesn't like it).
And ah, obviously would prepare a bit of soup, too. I guess that depends on the season, but a good one is always green pea cream soup. It tends to feel a bit too bland in excess, but in small servings it's absolutely delicious, and so perfectly warm for the tummy. Maybe with croutons? I'm not sure.
And when it comes to dessert, that also depends on what my guests would enjoy bc I don't really eat cakes or whatever. If I really don't have the time/money limit, i think I'd like to try making the little tapioca puddings! I think they're fun and delicious, especially if I could serve them in like large shot/gazpacho glasses. Maybe alternate between fruity fillings at the bottom, perhaps cherry, raspberry, bilberry....
I think when it comes to alcohol, id make it vodka/beer-free :) if it's like my dream party then it would be probably a celebration of maybe a big promotion I'd get, or getting engaged, maybe welcome party to an apartment of my own.... And idk i just always found that vodka and beer don't really work with it you know? I'd serve wine. MAYBE coctails if there's space to make them (I guess then a little vodka would be okay but like, you know, no pure shots) bc it would be so much fun to make mojitos or margaritas for my loved ones. Everything in the fanciest glasses I could afford, looking lovely, stocked up on ice and slices of lemon on the rim.... Obviously non alcoholic drinks too, I think that goes without saying.
When it comes to music, i have my love and food playlist always ready to go :-) by now it's I think 13 hours long though, so I'd queue my favorite songs, like the more romantic/jazzy ones and avoid the tracks that are too sad. But with decor i am so so so bad 😭 so I'd probably just settle for something simple, like candle sticks in a cute color sticked into the two holders I bought on sale a while ago, and with flowers I'd probably end up asking for advice my mom or sister since they're so much better at this than I am.... Oh, I love how many different napkins they are in home decor stores tho, and I never get a chance to buy them and use them!!!! Sometimes they're like in rainbows or with kittens and puppies or with cute messages like "have a great day" and such..... I even bought a pack once, with a bus that was full of puppies, it was soooooo adorable and SO much more fun than the regular plain white/cream colored napkins. Even if they are cheaper :/ but again, this is like a big occasion so I'd splurge a little.

Can I have 🍄 and 💦 for Aisling, Raina, and Alyra? :3
Of course you can! :D
Tis the ask game
🍄 What are your OCs favourite snacks? Their favourite comfort food which always cheers them up when they’re down? Favourite meal to make? Do they enjoy baking and cooking and are they any good in the kitchen?
Aisling: She's a sweet tooth. Her ultimate favourite thing is lemon custard cake, or anything with citruses. Or anything sweet with a memory linked to it. Embrium buds (sweet as per my headcanon) because she and her big brother ate them together, cookies because she... Well, Sera bakes them and she helps her cooking. Nectarines are her favourites too, she says they "taste like home" because she always ate them with her clan. She is a bad cook, can cook a couple of very basic things that will keep herself and others alive, but only on a campfire, and it's not anything you'll remember. Put her in front of a stove, leave her unsupervised and she'll either set the kitchen on fire, make the oven explode because "stuff wasn't cooking so I got impatiens and helped it with magic". Invent a Rage Demon to blame for her lack of talent.
Raina: Cotton candy because Malcolm used to buy it to her at festivals, to cheer her up when she was sad, and just to make her smile. She gets emotional for cotton candy. She loves Orana's cooking, and particularly how she makes tomatoes and her bruschette. Orana always makes one bruschetta more, and that's always for Raina because it's her favourite. She maybe could learn to cook, but has not the patience for it. She can cook only ONE thing and that's the "Grand Hawke Stew". Which was Malcolm's idea to convince Leandra that they won't starve after they ran away and stayed a family tradition. It's basically a soup made from "whatever is in the pantry at that moment, pour everything inside". Raina somehow always manages to make it taste nicely. Even if you see her pouring a whole jar of peanut butter inside. She really has no patience for anything else, maybe she can grill, but baking? Nope, she's terrible.
Alyra: Halla cheese. It's not something you find in human settlements, she's not so sentimental but she misses that and makes her feel good. She has a soft spot for Alistair's prized grey lamb soup. She is a soup girl. Something warm and earthy, full of herbs, and she'll settle down with a smile. It reminds her of home, it reminds her of the Blight and of meals shared with her friends. Soup is nice, soup is a warm hug. She is the best cook of the three, she'll tackle cooking as she tackles everything else in her life: methodically and with a purpose. She'll get a recipe and follow it, add some spices of her own, measure timings precisely. She'll get you nourished and she'll get you happy with what she serves you. She'll be better at cooking than at baking, but purely because she strongly prefer savoury dishes to desserts.
💦 If you as the writer could erase one traumatic event from this OC’s life what would it be and why?
Aisling: Already answered here!
Raina: In canon I saved both twins. It's not that I don't like starting it with a death, it's just... I saw Leandra blaming Hawke and that was a little unsettling for me. Again, Raina is the blorbo I accidentally poured too much of me into (except I can cook and I can bake and am still learning knitting) and... Again, see Aisling, I'm ok with the drama, but there's a couple of things that... Are too much. That thing is something I'm deeply uncomfortable with and I think she would have come crushing down way before the ending of Act 2 with that on her shoulders as well.
Alyra: So, this is basically me not thinking through things when choosing dialogue options, LOL. But basically: Alyra facing the Landsmeet and saying that oh no I'll be the Queen, Alistar we can marry. In front of everyone. And Alistair needing to remind her that eh. You know. Wrong ear shape. That's... Not something I would have personally dismissed so easily as a writer, necessarily (maybe keep the option open to work through it... I'm speaking of years of machinations to make it plausible for everyone, and only available as an options on certain conditions, but still.). And realising it wouldn't have been a feasible option... That is basically Alyra's core fear condensed into one wrong dialogue choice, I kept it out of trust to my game but eh. I don't think she would have done it and in that shitshow that is the breakup with Alistair if you make him king and aren't a Cousland... That is the one thing I'd spare her, LOL. (Instead I'm evil and we keep it.)

hi! i hope you're having a good day!! i have an ask from the ask game u rbed :))
🍊 What is your OC’s favourite meal? Snack? Dessert? Drink? Any reasons behind this besides liking how it tastes?
For Enca and/or Edith?
(ps i love the little lore bits u post sometimes! im not very good at keeping up with lore and getting into it but i just adore the vibes :] )
Hello! Hope you're having a good day as well. Thank you for your ask, I'm glad you enjoy the lore vibes ☺️ I also noticed there was a second part to 🍊, so I've gone ahead and answered those questions as well.
🍊 What is your OC’s favourite meal? Snack? Dessert? Drink? Any reasons behind this besides liking how it tastes? What is your OC’s most hated food? Stuff they can’t stand to eat or drink?
Enca's favorite meal is wonton mein! The texture and flavor of noodles used for this dish is one of their favorites, and they always like a good noodle soup. It was one of their favorite dishes to order from a restaurant that Edith occasionally took them to as a child. The more they hang out with Inga, though, the more they get a taste for elaborate, multi-course meals.
For favorite dessert and drink: black sesame soup, chrysanthemum tea mildly sweetened with rock sugar. These also remind them of things they could get at restaurants that Edith would take them to as a littl'un. I'm not sure if they have a favorite snack, but they do like snacking on fruits.
Most hated food is eggplant. They don't like eating mushy things, and they don't like drinking soy milk.
......................................................................
Edith doesn't (didn't?) really have a favorite meal. As an Amberglow resident, they were mostly eating the essence and/or flesh of demonic abominations, so. They're fascinated by any and all human foods. They do have a favorite snack and dessert from the mortal world, though, which are both lou po beng (I don't. Know what the "proper" phonetic spelling for this is.). They absolutely love the texture and flakiness of the pastry against the texture of the filling, and it's something their husband would often get for them as a little treat. They don't have a favorite drink in particular, but they do like things that are carbonated.
They don't have any particularly hated foods or drinks either, but they can't eat things that are overly sour, they Will cry.

Sooo.
What's your favourite food? :3
Ahh! I am awful at picking just one thing, so I will give you several.
Generally, I like simple sushi, not too many fillings/what-have-you. Just a simple salmon roll or salmon nigiri is enough for me. I also like tobiko or masago nigiri! I could eat way too many. I also generally like noodle dishes, especially noodle soups. I tend to eat a lot of Southeast Asian foods, even though I can't really handle spice 😅 I power through or make things at home to my own taste haha.
It's almost not fair to include it if you're a noodle soup enjoyer, but pho is my ultimate comfort food - usually beef, phở bò. The one I generally order when I'm eating out has a few different slices of beef, beef tendon, and tripe. If I'm making it at home, I generally don't put that much in it. It's hard to find offal here, and I'm about an hour from groceries that sell the cuts I want. This is one of my favourite recipes to make it at home. It's not perfect, imo, but it's really great for making it at home. It's a really complex thing to make at home, and this is the best I've tried.
One of my favourite things to make myself is a simple pasta dish my friend always makes. They no longer live nearby, so I make it when I'm missing them. (We still talk! They just don't live near me anymore.) It's a sausage alfredo pasta sauce - mild Italian sauage, garlic, onions, some worcestershire sauce and a little balsamic vinegar, dill, cayenne, and then just some alfredo sauce. It's not something I can eat a ton of at a time, but it's so comforting and easy to make. I made some earlier in the week, and I've been eating it for lunch. 💖
For desserts, oh man. I have such a sweet tooth. But honestly, I don't usually have baked goods around. I don't particularly enjoy baking, and I don't always care for the things that are easy to get at the store. We don't really have local bakeries here either; I live in a small area. But every once in a while, I'll buy a little boxed brownie mix and make it for myself. I'm really picky about brownies, so I generally only eat them if I've made them.

"Well, actually mochi can be sweet or savory so it can be eaten as a dessert or a snack. There are some people who might also eat it as a part of a meal,"
Tumblr media
Natsu would smile as he talked about food with Gerald. He'd only heard bits and pieces about how much the younger male loved food before actually meeting him like this. Ink must have mentioned his cooking at some point and Gerald overheard her. Not that it bothered the Fire Dragon. He positively loved to cook and he loved when people enjoyed his cooking as well.
"Dango is typically a snack, but it can also be sweet or savory. Flavor can be added to the rice flour before it's steamed to give it a bit of oomph. Most people tend to just make it lightly sweetened by adding some sort of sugar to the dipping sauce though."
Dango was a treat that most people didn't often get to enjoy which was one of the reasons that the Fire Dragon would make it so often. He'd typically take a few dozen dango sticks to the guild hall and pass them out to those who enjoyed them. He wasn't the type of person to force someone to try them if they didn't want to, either. After hearing that Jaron liked lasagna or sea food, the fire user would grin once more.
"Sea food huh? What about a sea food stew or soup? You think he'd like something like that? I can always whip up both and some lasagna if you think it'd be better that way. I don't mind!"

no...i-it’s not your fault either, sunshine... *i give him a soft smile amidst my tears* you played the role of my knight in shining armor perfectly. thank you for being here for me when i cry and saving me, i love you so so much...
*i start to feel exhausted, the emotional turmoil of the funeral and jaeyi’s mom’s outburst getting to me* i-i’m going to go to sleep now, i’m feeling so tired now that it’s all over... *soon after saying that, i’m asleep in sunoo’s arms* — 🥮
(awh, it’s okay to be self conscious about dancing. i was too! and i still am. but i think as long as you have fun with it, it’s fine. i actually had the guts to dance k-pop in front of my high school three times, back when it wasn’t as popular as it was now lmao which was like 3-4 years ago. i wasn’t that good but i had a lot of fun and i felt so good in the moment. i’m cheering for you to feel more confident in your dancing!! and about the instruments, there’s always time to learn and unique ways of learning it! i believe you can learn them someday, especially with the help of youtube tutorials. and yesss, i sleep a ton too, but even then i always feel like i need more and more lol. btw i didn’t ask, but what kinds of things do you like to cook the most?)
Sunoo— *he kisses your forehead and tucks you in bed after reaching home* have a good night sugar pie . *He leaves to complete some of his work. Very important work*
[ i really really wanna learn some instruments but my parents don't buy them for me :/ they feel like o should just focus on my studies. And in cooking i like making some noodles , soup , rice and curry , pasta , pizza ! And mug cakes in desserts! Cuz they are easy lol.]

I'm from Russia and people here also eat different things depending on the preferences and health issues. But we do have this idea of healthy and balanced meals that people are usually used to and they are served in kindergartens and schools and camps and hospitals. Those are: for breakfast it's any type of porridge and tea and bread with butter, for lunch it's any type of a soup for the first course, some carbs (pasta, potatoes or grains) with some meat or fish, and tea or compote with a dessert, then afternoon tea, and for dinner something like the second lunch course. Do you have this kind of diet in Italy?
We have the dieta mediterranea, which is made of all the nutrients, taken bit by bit. Basically a bit of everything, in right doses. Cause it's doses the main problem. It's all good, unless you exaggerate.
We do have some kind of diet that people is given in hospitals and kindergartens but honestly, food there is terrible lol. BTW our seems a little more varied than what you say (and according on the issues, if we speak about hospital, we can have relatives bringing food to us from outside too luckily): we have tea and biscuits for breakfast; lunch: pasta or rice (rarely soup) + meat (generally chicken but only cause its meat is lighter, but ofc we also have other types) or eggs/omelette or fish + vegetables (maybe boiled, but sometimes also fried fries) + fruits; dinner: vegs soup/pasta soup (rarely pasta and rice: soups are lighter and better before going to sleep especially if you cannot move from your bed) + meat, ham, omelette or fish (same as for lunch) + veggies/smashed potatoes + fruit. Sometimes we may be given something sweet too, like a little dessert (either for lunch or dinner). It depends on our conditions ofc. The first things I could eat after my surgery long ago were tea (to check if I could afford eating), ham and smashed potatoes, which are believed to be, alongside with soups (and boiled rice) some of the most easily digestible foods. That's basically what we can try to eat when we don't feel good with our stomach (maybe soup instead of tea).
Anyway we generally follow this same pattern when eating daily: first dish, second dish + veggies and fruits (which are very important for our health). But because we have never enough time to always eat like that, we have started cutting on it. Sometimes we do have bits of cheese here and there (maybe a slice between veggies and fruits) but to turn that into a dish is not that healthy (at least not too often). Bread with butter (and maybe some fruit jam or sugar) is good but not that healthy if I have to say... I mean if you don't eat it everyday is good, as I said above. It's all about doses.
Olive oil (esp. extra virgin), and other types of oils too, are believed to be healthier than butter or margarine, js. In fact we use oil much more than butter (even if in northern Italy, we still sometimes use butter to cook some kind of escalopes cause it makes them taste better)

the sunday mood is, yet again, running away to start from scratch and opening a cafe, where is it located, what's the general mood and music, and what drinks special is on the menu? (for those of you that weren't here for the of original question, what would be your signature dish/snack served there?)
I sat on this for a while and couldn't come up with my own concept, so I'm just gonna talk about my favourite bits of places I've been in real life :3
One of my favourite cafés is a little local place. One of the tables is made of wood with a big split down the middle that's filled with coffee beans and resin. You can order tea by the pot for like $3, so I tend to order that when I have time to kill and I'll sit and slowly go through the pot while browsing the internet or reading a book; there's several different teapots that they have there and I always get excited when they give me the one where the lid handle is a lounging cat 🐈🫖 They're really friendly there and there was a while where I went in often enough that the staff would always recognise me and the owner once used food colouring to make rainbow foam on my chai latte. The two food items I usually get there are either a bagel with cream cheese or a Nanaimo bar (a Canadian dessert bar with a coconut layer on the bottom, a custard layer in the middle, and a chocolate layer on the top). I haven't really been going ever since the pandemic started, but the most recent time that I went was about a month ago when I got an iced matcha after being at the pride fest in a nearby park.
When I was away at college, I was seeing a psychiatrist way across town and had to transfer buses to get there. Across from the bus stop was a crêperie that did Japanese-style crêpes. Their specialty drink was various types of matcha latte, so they had all kinds of teas that were mostly not even green tea that were ground down to the matcha consistency and you could get, like, a peppermint matcha latte or an Earl Grey matcha latte. I started going there to decompress after my psychiatrist appointments and I eventually went on my very first date there with a girl from Tinder who went to my school. They had little bowls of stickers that were handmade by an artist, so I got a few of them, including one that was a bowl of alphabet soup where the letters on the surface spelled out "brains".
When I went to England, I had a few places in mind that I wanted to visit but no hard plans made ahead of time. One of these places was Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium. I didn't think about the possibility of needing reservations ahead of time, so I didn't realise it until I got to England and they were booking a month in advance while I was only there for two weeks. They said on the phone that you can pop by and see if they had a cancelation that day, and while they didn't have cancelations on the day I went, there's still a lobby where you can order drinks and buy souvenirs, so I got a chai latte and they used a cat stencil for the cinnamon on top. I don't think we had a permanent cat café in Ontario yet (due to our safe food handling laws) so it was exciting just to go even if I didn't meet any of the cats.
Also while I was in England, it was my England Mum's idea to take me out for tea, so she booked a reservation at a tea room where it was this cute shabby chic aesthetic and all the chairs were mismatched. They served sandwiches and scones and fresh strawberries on a tiered tray. (British strawberries, by the way, fucking slap because a lot of the strawberries we get in Canada are the American ones that are genetically modified to ripen slower, picked while still white in California, and dyed red in Indiana, so they can be grown year-round and still survive the trip to the Ontario Food Terminal in Toronto... nothing against GMOs but those strawberries just aren't as good as normal ones 😕)
There's a place I've been to in Toronto and I don't remember what the name of the café was, but it's inside of a comic book store called The Silver Snail and the drinks at the café are named after superheroes. I remember that I got a Nutella hot chocolate made with real Nutella and they give you the spoon to lick after they scoop the Nutella, and then my friend got a chocolate-raspberry coffee drink of some kind that was named after Black Widow. It was -22°C in the middle of February so it was nice to have hot drinks that day lol

Perhaps we could take a moonlit stroll and then have a picnic with mooncakes and tea, talking about everything and nothing as I appreciate the way the stars shine but not as much as the twinkle in your eye? (PS what’s your favourite type of mooncake?)
Tumblr media
anon, that would be the dream ur gonna make me blush omg. fsdjghgh ngl. I’ve wanted to write something like that for Hellagur/doctor or one of the obey me boys/mc but WHERE IS MOTIVATION LFMSDGHG
(I like a lot of types of mooncake tbh. Grew up with the lotus paste ones, but I love the texture of the winter melon filling ones. Snowskin is also nice if you get a good flavor combination. And nothing could go wrong if you go for the ice cream kind.)

if this isnt a big trouble for you can you do male mc and undateables taking care of their kids? whenever i see family aus or preg mc its always strictly fem for some season..
of course! in theory I'm good with kids but only those above the age of six, so for the sake of writing, they're gonna be seven. Also, this is kinda short, I'm very sorry about that
Characters- Diavolo, Barbatos, Solomon, Simeon
Male!Reader
Warnings- Swearing, children, healthy family relationships
Category- Headcanons, Req answers
Diavolo
Dia's a great dad. He's eager to make bad puns, grinning in delight every time you let out an exasperated, albeit fond, sigh, and he has a habit of celebrating any and every event with confetti. He'd use glitter if you let him. Don't let him.
He can cook! Definitely! let him cook!
Well at least it wasn't as bad as Solomon's cooking. Plus, great opportunity to teach your kid all about being polite
If he wasn't the king of the demons, he'd essentially be a househusband. As it is, he's both a stay-at-home-dad and a 'fuck fuck fuck I have to run this place' dad.
Expect lots of family bear hugs! Dia's also really good at comforting your kid after a nightmare or a bad day, and is more than happy to play prank after prank on you. keep your guard up, your family is plotting!
Barbatos
Obviously, you're never going to have to worry about housework. He likes cleaning and cooking, explaining that it's vaguely therapeutic.
He's a fairly strict parent, but still makes sure that you and your kid know that you're loved. Also fully prepared to fight anyone who says shit.
If you like a calm home life, here you go. Even with a seven-year-old running around making mischief, Barbatos manages to keep the house feeling relaxed.
He's good with kids, and can easily get through the rebellious years. After all, he essentially raised a golden retriever of a man for over- he doesn't know how long, but it was a while.
I'm sorry but he's a board dad. He lectures the board of whatever school your kid goes to every time something happens.
Solomon
Chaos husbands? Oh yeah. Your family only gets more hyperactive after having a kid, considering that kids are, well, kids, and Solomon is more than happy to encourage your child's antics.
Your kid is gonna be a very happy kid, as long as you're the one making dinner.
If either of you is gonna be strict, it'll have to be you. Solomon doesn't give a shit what your kid does as long as he doesn't have to do paperwork and they don't get hurt.
Let's fuckin' hope that the kid has common sense, because Sol doesn't know how to put away his fuckin' experiments.
I cannot say this enough do not let him cook. this should be obvious but just don't. He's a great dad, but only as long as he doesn't cook.
Simeon
He's Luke's legal guardian, to be fair
The two of you insist on treating Luke like your kid, to the point it's not really a joke. He is your kid now. Good luck.
He's a great dad! Just exactly what you'd expect, from puns to encouraging homework as a great learning exercise.
He can make three foods and that's it. Chicken noodle soup, mashed potatoes, and something you can't pronounce that tastes fucking amazing.
I mean with Luke there you'll always have desserts, so no worries!
Simeon's a great dad and a very chaotic husband send tweet
He folds socks to be mismatched. It's shocking he hasn't Fallen yet, because holy shit that's evil.

You're they're precious little helper (height doesn't not matter. You 2ft tall than her? Don't matter. She'll still get on a stepping stool and pat your head "good job my good little assistant!!")
Asking to cook with her, slow her down she's listing off so many recipes she wants to make all at once.
"Dear...it's just one dinner."
Does ask what you want to cook. But there will never be any promises she won't try to do smth different about it.
It always turns out good in the end.
If you're not a spice person. Man you broke her heart (jk)
She'll dial it down a bit but plz tell her when to stop cause her version dialed down is different from everyone else's.
She loves feeding you the ingredients in between while your cooking or waiting for certain things to cook.
If you're crap at cooking she'll go slower, but she loves teaching people so while she does go through each step with you she's still talking soo fast.
Please ask questions so slow her down.
She's just so excited that you wanna learn to cook.
If you can cook and offer to do something on the side while she's chopping ingredients. She'll stop every once in a while, she loves looking at you so concentrated.
She likes wrapping her arms around you watching you cook. gently swaying
Guoba such a good bear to! Will help hold items for you or the bowl you need to put cut ingredients in.
Has such sparkles in her eyes in expectation when you try any of her cooking. Like it's the first time all over again.
Critical of your cooking but will still praise what you did well. She wants to help.
Over all very fun, energy fueled. She wants to cook with you as often as possible.
Shenhe
Tumblr media
Help her. Please
She grew up eating plants she has no idea how to cook so if you can't cook either lord save that kitchen.
Chongyun and Ganyu ready to act as a fire extinguisher when the place goes up in flames
Learning together tho is a lot of fun in of itself. You can both relax not feeling you're doing smth wrong cause heck if either of you know.
Slow paced. Even if you're good at cooking she is so lost.
"But what's the difference between slicing them and chopping them? As long as it's thin enough to cook does it not matter?"
She'll ask questions to everything. Will stop after awhile cause she thinks they're annoying you.
"Love its ok, I like teaching you stuff!"
Be still her heart.
She likes watching the pot or oven as the food cooks. Not that she's impatient she's likes as it changes color and begins to soften.
Likes making desserts more.
Help her pipe cupcakes do it right now
Put your hands on her and help her with the pressure of the piping
(I'm a dessert decorator irl I'm 1000% projecting how bad i was at piping when i was going through training lol)
Feels so proud when you say her food is good (you better say it even when it's not)
Is still not used to eating proper food so I feel she has a loot of texture issues with certain food. Jello or anything slimey is a no go.
Tea flavored sweets are probably her fave.
Probably won't ask to cook often but always likes watching you cook
Overall gotta start off small, Soups are really good to help learn a lot of things like cutting and flavor balance, simple cupcakes to learn desserts.

This may be an old article from 3 years ago, but these cultural aspects/observations still apply even today. And though this is strictly a Chinese perspective, a lot of these everyday life bits are observed in Overseas Chinese communities in countries such as The Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc. as well as countries heavily influenced by Chinese culture like Taiwan, Japan, and Korea.
I've always liked learning about other cultures and making comparisons between how things are done East vs West. Which probably stems from growing up with two cultures and Mom raising me on American movies xD
So the irony is if you asked me how many Chinese, Taiwanese, or Hong Kong actors I know, chances are I know as much as you do xD Like Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, and that's about it. But if you asked me about Western (specifically American and British) actors, then I have a useless brain dump of movie trivia and who was with who in what movie xD
Hmmm, both Taiwan and the Philippines are two distinct cultures but both look up to a certain country and are fascinated by that. In Taiwan's case, Japan and the US for the Philippines. In both cases, this is due to being under the rule of those countries in their history. Taiwan being under Japan for 50 years, and the Philippines being under Spain for 300+ years, followed by periods of American and Japanese rule. To put it simply though:
Taiwan is "mini-Japan with a very Chinese culture".
The Philippines is "former colony of Spain with lots of American influences".
But unlike the author, I've never set foot in any Western country, so my understandings are strictly what I've observed in media, which while it can be accurate, doesn't compare to actually experiencing the culture.
Some further elaboration on most points:
#1 We quite literally use chopsticks for everything. We use it to pick rice, viands, vegetables, fruit, smaller desserts, almost all the food you can think of.
But where do you put your chopsticks when you're not using them? Just put them on top of your bowl or flat on your plate. But do not ever stick them vertically. It's taboo, since it looks like incense sticks, which we use to pray for those who have passed, like our ancestors or during funerary services.
Tumblr media
#3 The majority of Asia is obsessed with fair/white skin. In my time at the Philippines, I grew up watching all these Dove Whitening commercials and my classmates often commented on how fair my skin was, how they envied it etc. In Taiwan, girls often say they don't want to 變黑 (biàn hēi) 'become dark'. Japan and Korea too are not innocent of this either (if their beauty/skin products weren't a dead giveaway).
People here at Taiwan often mistake me for being from Hong Kong or Japan (as long as I don't speak Mandarin with my heavy accent xD). A Taiwanese classmate of mine joked that she often gets mistaken for being from Southeast Asia due to having a darker complexion. And while I laughed it off with her at that time, looking back, I now realize she was lowkey being racist. xD
And believe me Filipinas have mentioned literally being told 'your skin is so dark' here in Taiwan, or being given backhanded compliments like 'you're pretty despite having dark skin' and...*facepalms*
My point is, beauty is not exclusive to skin color. People who still think that are assholes.
Tumblr media
#5 Not to say we don't have salt and pepper, but yes soy sauce and vinegar are the classic condiments you see on the table, be it at home or at a restaurant.
And if I may add, Taiwanese love their pepper. xD If you ever get to eat at a night market or a smaller "Mom n' Pop-style" restaurant here, some dishes/soups tend to add quite an excessive amount of pepper. Not like anthills, but quite liberally and way more than average. Enough that you see traces of pepper at the bottom of the food paper bag or swirling in your soup. xD
#6 I know this all too well from personal experience. In my years of studying at Taiwan, I always had roommates. 3 in my first school (I graduated high school in the Philippines pre K-12 so I had to make up 2 years of Senior High), followed by 2 in college, with the exception of 1 in freshman year.
My college did offer single person dorms but at around 9000 NTD ($324) per month compared to around 6000 NTD ($216) per semester. Because I wanted to save, the choice was obvious for me xD. But ah, this doesn't mean I don't value personal space, in fact I love having the room to myself, and since both my roomies would go home to their families every weekend, weekends were bliss for me xD
And you don't have to be friends with your roommates (that's an added bonus however), you just have to get along with them. I was quite lucky to have really great roommates all throughout my schooling years.
#9 In the Philippines, we do. Owing mostly to American influences and maybe being predominantly Catholic? xD
#10 *sigh* Chinese parents and parents from similar Asian cultures tend to put too much emphasis on grades, so much that kids could get sent to cram school as early as elementary. This is because what school you get into could literally affect your future job opportunities, and while that's not exclusive to any particular country/culture, I feel it's especially pronounced here in Asia. I'm really lucky my own parents weren't that strict about it. However, if your parents don't point the mistakes out to you, chances are you'll do it yourself, if you're an Asian kid like me anyway. xD It just becomes a habit.
#11 My family is an exception to this. xD We do say 'I love you' directly, but complete with the 'ah eat well ok?', 'don't scrimp on food', 'sleep well' and similar indirect words/actions of affection. We were doing 'Conceal, Don't Feel' before it became popular. xD
Tumblr media
#13 I'm kind of confused about this but this has sort have changed over the years in which eye-contact is now more encouraged. But don't stare, especially at elders and authority figures. Sometimes it's just shyness though. xD And I've observed this with my own Taiwanese friend, especially when I'm complaining or ranting to her about something. xD I'm a person who likes to express my opinions strongly, which tends to scare/alienate some of the locals here, as doing so is kind of frowned upon. Thankfully, she does listen and offers her take on things.
#14 Ah this. xD In the Philippines, this is a common greeting known as beso-beso, and I freaked out too when an auntie did that to me. xD Needless to say, Mom lectured me later on what that was. ^^"
#16 Along with #3 another crazy beauty standard. In my view, people always look better with a little meat on them and when they're not horribly thin. Asia still has a loonng way to go with accepting different types of bodies if you ask me. This combined with modern beauty standards has made the pressure for women especially to 'look beautiful' higher than ever.
Tumblr media
I know many people love them but please, starving yourself or glorifying eating disorders is never OK just to get this kind of 'ideal' body. I'm not part of the Kpop fandom, but even I think when idols get bullied just for gaining the least bit of weight among other insensitive comments, that's really going too far.
#17 'If you want to make friends, go eat.' <- I couldn't agree more. In the Philippines we have a greeting: 'Kumain ka na ba?' (Have you eaten?) . Similarly in Taiwan, we have 吃飯了沒? (chī fàn le méi), both of these can mean that in the literal sense but are often used as greetings instead. By then which invitation to having lunch/dinner together may or may not follow. Food really is a way for us to socialize and to catch up with what's going on in each other's lives. Not to say we don't have regular outings like going out to the mall, going shopping, etc. but eating together is a huge part of our culture, be it with family or friends.
And while I'm at it, some memes that are way too accurate good to pass up xD
Tumblr media
Parents, uncles, aunties alike will fight over the bill xD

My parents are guilty of the last one. Logic how? xD
#18 True. xD I like giving compliments out to people but I have a hard time accepting them myself, though I've learnt how to accept them much more now than before. We're kind of raised to constantly downplay ourselves so we often say things like 'ah no no' or 'I'm really not that good'. The downside of this of course is that it can come off as somewhat fake. xD
Again from personal experience, that same classmate who made the lowkey racist remark, she was good, she was on the debate team, was a honor student, knew how to mingle with people, but she downplayed herself way too much, while praising me but I honestly thought that she never really meant it from how she treated me. She wanted to keep me around her yet make backhanded compliments at me and she didn't want me socializing with my other classmate who is now my friend. *sigh* It was only after discussing this with one of my roomies did I realize how this 'excessive downplaying' might come off to people like me who more or less grew up with a more 'Westernized' mindset. I'm not saying brag about your achievements but don't be overly humble about them either, which can also be a turn off.
#20 We do tend to be a lot more realistic on how we view things, neither entirely optimistic nor pessimistic. We try to think of things practically and often analyze things on pure logic. A downside of this however, is that Chinese people can be overly practical. Taiwanese for instance don't like to 'find inconveniences' and generally keep to themselves, meaning, they won't help you in your hour of need even when they do have the capabilities. Sounds really harsh I know, but in my 6 years of living in Taiwan, while this doesn't apply to all the people, a lot of them really do only find/talk to you when they need something.
So for some people saying Taiwanese are 'friendly', that's BS xD If you ask me, Filipinos are infinitely more friendly, and again while not all, generally make more of an effort to help you when you need it. I really felt more of a real sense of community during my years growing up in the Philippines compared to Taiwan.
#21 Children do tend to stay with their parents well into college and adulthood, since Chinese families are indeed very family-oriented, in a lot of cases, grandparents often live under the same roof as us as well! And it really does save a lot of money. I see there's a real stigma in the US when it comes to "living with your parents", but that's starting to change especially because of Covid and having more and more people move back in with their parents.
Housing unfortunately is pretty much hella expensive no matter where you go, and Taiwan is no exception. Steep housing prices and the very high cost of raising a child (schooling + buxiban fees, etc.) contribute to a very low birth rate and thus an aging population like Japan. It's not uncommon to see both parents working in Taiwan.
#23 I'm an overthinker myself, but I totally agree with the author that the best is to strike a good balance between these two. Which I guess is why I love drawing or any other related creative attempts, it helps me be more spontaneous or well, creative! I like to remain intellectually or artistically inspired.
#24 Is French high school really like that? xD My friend did watch SKAM France and more or less got a culture shock from what was depicted on the show. I can confirm however that most high schools both in the Philippines and Taiwan require students to wear a uniform, only in college is everybody free to wear casual/civilian clothes.
#26 Ah this is part of our Asian gift-giving etiquette xD We always open gifts later after the event/meeting and in private. Never open them in front of the person who gave it to you or in front of others. This is to prevent any 'shame/embarrassment' that may result both to yourself and to the gift giver. I know this may come off as something weird since some people may want a more honest response or immediate feedback when it comes to gift-giving, but that's just how it is in our culture. You're always free to ask us though (in private) if we liked the gift or not ^^"
#28 I want to say the same goes to drinking, partying, and drugs however xD Those are things which are still frowned upon in our culture. And to be honest, whenever I see those in movies, it does kind of turn me off xD It doesn't mean that we're "uncool" or "boring", we just think that there are much better or healthier ways of "having fun".
#31 Is this true in France?! Man I would kind of prefer that instead of people being on their phones all the time xD This kind of goes with #20 in that Chinese are overly practical or logical, and don't read fiction as much as nonfiction. My Taiwanese friend is an exception though, she's a bibliophile who loves the feel of paper books compared to e-books, and it's a trait of her that I like a lot. Both the Philippines and Taiwan however have a huge fanbase when it comes to manga and anime though.
I'm all for reading outside of "designated reading" at schools especially. Reading fiction improves your vocabulary too, and can be quite fun! It helps you imagine and really invest in a world/story, and if you ask me something that I feel Westerners are better at, they're more in touch with their emotions and creativity, and are thus much more able to write compelling or original stories. Believe me, I've seen a fair amount of Chinese movies that rip off Western movie plotlines xD
#33 Nothing much to add on here..except that since I'm a "weird" person, Mom often jokes that she got the wrong baby from the hospital. xD
#35 True. While I agree with the care and concern that your fellow community can give you, the downside of this is we tend to only hang out with our own people, e.g Chinese with Chinese, Taiwanese with Taiwanese, etc. I've seen too that it's especially hard to make friends in Japan and Korea as a foreigner. Not only is there the language barrier, but the differences in culture too. In a way, Asians can be pretty close-minded on getting to know other cultures or actually making friends with people from other countries. I know this all too well being half-Taiwanese/half-Filipino, being neither "Filipino" enough nor "Taiwanese" enough. xD It's more of people here being too used to what they're comfortable with.
#36 Oh this is something I feel that Chinese students and other students from similar cultures should really improve on. xD How will people respect you if you don't speak your mind?
I felt bad especially for my Spanish teacher in college, granted it was an introductory course (Spanish I and II) but the amount of times that our teacher had to prompt a student to recite/speak even with clear hints already made her (and me too) extremely frustrated. The thing is, these are college students, I personally feel they don't have any reason to be so shy of speaking and technically by not doing so they're slowing the pace of the class too much and a lot of time is wasted.
Unfortunately you can't always be very vocal with your thoughts and opinions in most Asian cultures. I would say strive for that, but at the same time, play your cards well, especially if you're in a workplace setting.
If you made it to the end, thank you for reading and here's a cookie! 🍪 I'm not perfect and there's bound to be something I missed so please let me know if you spotted anything wrong. Feedback/questions are very much welcome and please feel free to share about your country/culture's differences or similarities!
