Hubristic Asshole Fight: Round 1 Part 1b
Anakin Skywalker (Star Wars) vs Feanor (The Silmarillion)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda below cut
Anakin
Decided that he would become stronger than death to stop those he cares about from dying after failing to accept his mother's death. When he begins getting visions/nightmares like he had before losing his mother of his wife dying in childbirth, he decides to team up with an evil sorcerer and mastermind to learn the secret to stopping death. The price he willingly paid was leading the slaughter of the community of peacekeeping monks who had raised him from nine years old, feeling guilt about his heinous betrayal even as he unflichingly continued the massacre (sunk cost fallacy to a very extreme degree). The unintended price he paid was the loss of his limbs and independence after his injuries during a fight with his mentor and brother figure, his wife dying on childbirth due to the great stress of his heinous actions, and being separated from his children until they were adults firmly opposed to the imperial regime he became the attack dog for (only knowing of their survival until after he had personally attacked them both); He literally did not have to do any of that. his wife Padmè very very very very much did not want him to do any of that. He was completely absorbed in his own inability to deal with loss that he deadlock refused to consider losing family again and then he went and killed what amounted to his extended family, his wife and the man who raised and guided him from age 9. And his own kids unknowingly. In terms of accomplishing your goals there really really wasn't much more he could have fucked up. And when it comes down to key moments, all he had to do was not cut off mentor and co-worker Mace Windu's hand with a laser sword and everything would have been fine. He's a nominee for Fail King of All Time to me
He thinks he's hot shit which, he is, but like cool it dude you don't have to mass murder maim mutilate your way through life to prove you're the extra most specialest bestest psychic space wizard;
Hubrised so hard he 1) lost his limbs and his skin 2) became what he hated 3) caused the very death he sought to prevent, betraying and destroying himself for nothing; So soaking wet and self aware that he cried committing atrocities. If he knew what hubris was, he'd agree he has a lot of it
Feanor
The definition of hubris. Created the silmarils who were so perfect even the gods praised them. Got them stolen by the gods evil brother (so essentially fantasy satan). Then decided to go fight the evil god to get the silmarils back and swore an oath binding him and his sons to get them back no matter who would stand in their way. This drastically backfired when some other elves stood in his way so he murdered them. Got cursed by the gods for this (together with his entire family and everyone who followed them). Told the gods that they were of the same kind as fantasy satan and that they would end up following him
Morgoth (a god) shows up at his house and Feanor (professional hater of gods) tells him to get fucked* and slams the door in his face. *”Get thee gone from my gate thou jail-crow of Mandos!”; He has never spent anything wrong ever aside from all the war crimes.
The Valar (gods) asked Feanor for help in saving the world from being in total darkness and he said “no, figure it out yourselves”. Repeatedly and intentionally goes against their orders leading to war and chaos; I know it’s left open ended to what really happened to him after he died, but I hope he never repents. I hope he stays an antagonistic and egotistical bastard after being reimbodied (brought back to life) and continues to make it everyone else’s problem. I love him.
I’m gonna have to try to do this without a sing Tolkien scholarship words so bear with me. Basically my dude is one of the smartest and most talented elves in the world. Unfortunately he has a lot of daddy issues AND mommy issues largely due to the fact that his mom died when he was a kid and decided not to come back (as elves can do). No one else has this problem. He invented a ton of important stuff and had seven sons. His most prized creation was three gems called the Silmarils, which contained the light of the Two Trees, which gave light to the world before they were destroyed. When the Valar (the gods of Tolkien’s world) asked if they could use the Silmarils to potentially create another light source, he emphatically refused and in fact became so jealous of them that he and his sons swore an oath that anyone who so much as touched them would die by their swords. Sauron’s boss steals the gems and Feanor decides that he will lead his people on a crusade to retrieve and avenge them. This results in the death of him, most of his people, and almost his entire family minus one of his sons, Galadriel, and Elrond; He once yelled at the devil to get off his lawn
went to war with morgoth (satan basically) against the will of the gods and made a whole speech to said gods about how they were gonna feel really silly when he killed morgoth and saved the whole world. he never actually did battle with morgoth because he died on like day 1 of getting to middle earth (he left like 2/3 of his forces behind because he didn’t trust them) and spontaneously combusted upon his death; he’s a huge asshole and a mad scientist and linguist and prince with daddy issues and also mommy issues
Dude thought he could win a fight with the devil, tried to just walk into Angband (Mordor before Mordor actually existed), made an oath to kill everyone that tries to take his creations even the Valar (angelic like beings) and ends up causing his death, his sons deaths and a bunch of other deaths; His name is quite literally spirit of fire Is basically regarded as THE greastest elf Is in fact THE best smith of the elves and crafts their most precious jewels (that end up causing so much death) Is THE linguist to the point of creating the alfabet every one uses even after The Crimes, creates a bunch of things that are used even after The Crimes actually Loves his dad more than the things he made Is the only recorded elf with seven kids Is married to a sculpter that is so good that people confuse her statues as actual people (a propaganda because he had to be good to actually bag her you know) Manages to create jewelry so good even the the angelics beings sent by god are surprised he managed to do it So good at making speeches that it leads to a rebellion against said angelic beings and a lot of people to leave paradise with him His mother died because his spirit was too powerful Invented kinslaying after trying to steal some boats for said rebellion Swears an oath that destroys his whole family (but adds a great flavour to the rest of the story) Tells the devil to fuck off and slams his house door on said devils face Dies via auto combustion because his spirit was just too powerful for a normal death Gets stuck in the afterlife (that elves can usually just return from) for spiting the Valar Is said he will have an important role in Tolkien’s version of Ragnarok by letting the jewels he previously promised to kill for be destroyed to defeat the devil
Because of his pride, he went against the gods because the evil god Morgoth stole his life's work (the Silmarils, 3 shiny gems that radiated the light of the two trees that a huge evil spider had sapped dry). Swore (with his 7 sons) an oath to hunt Morgoth and retrieve his shiny gems. Commited kinslaying, burned some boats, combusted to ashes after suffering mortal wounds at the hands of corrupted demi-gods. Consequences of his actions could be seen long long after his death: the oath was passed on to his sons to hopelessly fulfill (failure after failure, including two more kinslayings, one of them casting himself into a fiery volcano, another wandering the shores for eternity);

Where Dark Meets Light Ch1
Star Wars | Obikin
Obi-Wan has a vision that sends him rushing to the Temple to save Anakin from the darkside only to fall into Anakin's trap.
For Prompt: Anakin/Obi-Wan where Obi-Wan fucks some sense into Anakin at the end of Episode 3 and turns him away from the dark side. Or the opposite of that where Anakin brings Obi-Wan to the dark side through seduction. (Or, if you're willing to write two stories, you could do both?)
Warnings and tags below:
Warnings: dubcon/reluctance
Obi-Wan raced through the halls of the temple. The vision sent to him through the force filled his heart with a fear his decades of training couldn't shake. Anakin, apprenticed to the lord of the sith, dead younglings, traitorous clones, death and destruction everywhere. He felt certain that if he could reach Anakin in time he could stop it all. He had missed his opportunity to destroy Grevious, but he wouldn't miss his chance to save Anakin.
The doors slid open and there he was. He stood looking out on Coruscant.
"Anakin!" The doors slide shut behind him. His old apprentice turned. His eyes were discolored, his gazed filled with darkness. He reached out his hand and Obi-Wan's lightsaber flew into it.
"Anakin... no," he breathed.
"It's alright, Obi-Wan. I'm going to fix everything. I've ended the war." He walked slowly towards him. "And I know who the sith lord is."
"You know because he is your master," Obi-Wan accused.
"He taught me how to save Padmè. I suppose I should feel like I owe him for that, but I don't. Not after the war."
"You don't owe him anything. You can stop this now, Anakin."
He smiled. "You're right. After tonight, I will be the only lord of the sith and you, Obi-Wan, shall be my apprentice."
"Never." Obi-Wan's back hit the door. He tried to open it, but it was locked tighted. It had been a trap all along. His fear had blinded him.
Anakin crowded into his space. He spoke softly now. "Would it really be so bad? It could be like old times, but better. There won't be any war. No suffering. No jedi. Just the three of us living as we please."
"Do you really think Padmè will agree to that?"
Anakin nodded. "She trusts your wisdom. When she sees how you have come to my side, she will trust that it's safe. That it's right."
Anakin's breath was warm on his face. He could sense his excitement. It was almost intoxicating. They could end the death, the destruction. Safety for the whole galaxy was within their reach. No more planets overcome by war, no more slavery, no more cruelty. Anakin's thoughts infected him.
"Please, Obi-Wan. I can't do this without you."
Obi-Wan closed his eyes. He could meet Anakin's no longer. "Don't ask this of me, Anakin. You know I cannot."
"You've been so loyal to the jedi. And where has it gotten you? You've watched how many innocents die? How many planets? I can teach you. We can grow stronger together." His hand found Obi-Wan's waist. It was warm. Anakin's voice, the smell of his skin, he'd always found safety in these things. It was wrong. So wrong. Could love drive a jedi to the dark side? Perhaps it was more the fear of losing that love. Though Obi-Wan didn't fear losing Anakin. He feared letting Anakin carry this weight alone.
When Obi-Wan opened his eyes he found Anakin so close that their noses almost touched. His eyes were both familiar and alien, caught in the place between light and dark. Their lips touched and Obi-Wan felt like he was falling already. He didn't mean to move, yet his hand tangled in Anakin's hair. It was as soft as he had imagined it to be.
Anakin pinned him back against the door. He kissed him deeply. His thigh pressed between Obi-Wan's legs. He moaned as he put pressure against his cock. He could feel a new excitement in Anakin, threatening to infect him just the same. Desire. It tasted so much sweeter than fear, than Anakin's lust for power. It was so much harder to resist.
"Come to me in the darkness, Obi-Wan," Anakin whispered. "Give me your fear, let me replace it with pleasure. It's okay."
Anakin pressed into him, grinding their hips together. Obi-Wan moaned. Anakin pressed kisses into his neck. His hands slipped beneath his clothes to run over his skin. Obi-Wan stood pliant but refusing to reciprocate. Anakin's hand slipped into his pants.
"Don't..." Obi-Wan breathed, but Anakin gently shushed him. His hand wrapped around his cock and he gasped, his hips thrust into his palm.
"That's it. It feels so good doesn't it, Obi-Wan?" Anakin purred. He took Obi-Wan's cock out and stroked it, kissing him hard. Then he could feel Anakin's cock against his own. He rutted against him creating friction and pressure that Obi-Wan's body returned. He tried to stop himself, he did, but it felt so good. And when Anakin said his name like that...
"Obi-Wan," he moaned. His voice dripped with passion. Obi-Wan opened his eyes and it was his undoing.
Anakin's eyes were dark with pleasure. His cheeks were red and the blush spread down the sides of his neck. His lips were swollen and dark from kissing. Obi-Wan reached for him.
He hiked his leg up around Anakin's hip and ground more firmly against him. He held his face in his hands and pulled him in for a kiss. Anakin's tongue slid over his own and it was ecstasy. He lost control.
They ground against each other like desperate animals, moaning and rutting. Their lips broke apart and Obi-Wan kissed Anakin's neck as his head dropped back. He sucked deeply against his skin, giving in to the desire to mark him just below his jaw. He felt it just a moment before Anakin came, spilling between them. Bound together, Anakin's pleasure overtook him and Obi-Wan joined him, the both of them crying out and falling heavily against the wall.
Anakin's victory sang through the force, but so did his pleasure. They were both lost to it. But more importantly, where the force wrapped around him, Obi-Wan felt a change. It was darker and colder. Not the inky black of the darkside but a chilly gray. Anakin had changed him, forced him out of the light, but Obi-Wan still fought back the darkness. Maybe he could still save Anakin. Maybe they could exist here, together, in the gray.

thewillowbends reblogged this post, but I’m going to stop hijacking keblava’s post and put it on its own, since it’s diverged away.  ♥
Obidala is workable in certain contexts (outside of OTP3, I can see it working post-RotS, but yes, the ghost of Anakin is between them), but it doesn’t particularly strike me as compelling for either of their character in that the two of them are fairly similar in temperament and personality. Left to their own devices, they are dedicated and driven to the point of personal expense.  Part of why Anakin was good for them (and them for he in the opposite regard) is that he rebels against the idea of personal relationships being subordinate to duty (albeit, when isolated, he takes this to a fault).  He gives them the space to indulge personal emotional needs while allowing them to maintain their comparatively superior sense of personal responsibility due to their more matured and nuanced understanding of the complex reality of their galaxy.  (Not to suggest Anakin doesn’t bring a unique perspective whose significance is often neglected to the detriment of everybody later on, but he’s no ideological prodigy.)  Likewise, Obi Wan and Padmè provide both the emotional stability and stronger moral direction that Anakin desperately needs.  It’s the breakdown in that support structure in RotS that primes him for the fall.
In defense of Anidala, though, if shit hadn’t hit the fan, I think they ultimately would have been all right had Anakin left the order (something that I think was inevitable no matter what, voluntary or otherwise).  Without a war and given time to connect without the constant duress of potential loss underlining every moment, they would have been able to connect better.  Padmè would have been forced to recognize and reconcile how emotionally damaged Anakin was from both his childhood and the toxic (for him) culture of the Jedi Order, and the stress of two dependent children certainly would have exacerbated her realization of how much of the emotional labor she was performing.  I can’t imagine it would have been long before she shuttled him along into therapy - which is the perhaps the best thing that could have happened for all of them.
(It’s his relationship with Obi Wan, unfortunately, that I think would have suffered the most in that scenario.  Obes is a consummate Jedi, and there wasn’t nearly enough allure in a life external to the Jedi to get him leave the only existence he’d ever known. AND…Obi Wan, while mature enough to overcome it by that point, is more than a tiny bit possessive where the people he cares about are concerned, so I imagine he’d be pretty hurt when Anakin left, even if he understood why.  Their lives would’ve inevitably taken them in directions opposite of each other and they’d have faded into the backdrop of one another’s existence.)
I have so many thoughts!  ♥  I’ll start with Anakin because, well, ultimately Star Wars was Anakin’s story and I do generally have the most to say about him and, you know, lots of feelings that I need to scream about.  ^_~  I think the thing that took me awhile to understand about him was that he didn’t really want to leave the Jedi Order, one of the fundamental things about Anakin’s character is that he was driven to want to change the galaxy, to help make people do the right thing.  I think this is why he fell in love with Padme in the first place--yes, she was beautiful, an angel in his eyes, but she was also this Queen of a planet who got shit done by marching up to people and making them do the right thing, he watched as she took matters into her own hands and made the galaxy a better place! That’s exactly what Anakin wanted and has always wanted--I love the idea of him retiring somewhere and having a happy, domestic life, but I don’t think that’s what Anakin himself would ever actually want.  He wants to be out there doing things, using his power to save people and make the galaxy a better place in his eyes.  That’s why he’s so torn--he desperately wants to stay a Jedi for so long because that’s what he thinks they’re supposed to do (and is angry when they don’t go far enough to achieve more), that’s why he stays with Palpatine after ROTS, because he has always and would always want to be shaping the galaxy. (This is setting aside that I agree that Anakin shouldn’t have been a Jedi, by their standards and his.  I love them both dearly, they both have their merits, but sometimes two good things are not always a good fit!)
Also, while I personally think Anakin would benefit from therapy, I don’t think he wanted it and have you ever tried to drag someone to therapy who thought they didn’t need it or want it?  I’ve done that twice in my life (family members who really, really needed it and we desperately tried to help support them through it) and it made absolutely zero difference, they were just angry and resentful at the rest of us because they didn’t want it.  You have to want to go to therapy before therapy can help you, and I don’t think Anakin wanted it or saw himself as having a problem, not at heart.  He says that he knows he wants more and he shouldn’t, but that entire movie is about how he refuses to let go of Padme and looks for every justification to do whatever he feels is necessary, because he so truly does not see his love as being wrong in any way or out of balance. The problem with Anidala, for me, is that they never really knew each other and Padme ended up doing more of the emotional labor than she should have and, honestly, I think they wanted slightly different (but important) things--Anakin wanted that person who set the boundaries down and was his emotional rock, the person he would lean on.  Padme wanted someone who was more equal--she wanted someone to hold her like he did on Naboo (and this is when Anakin is really going into a spiral, when he feels he has to be the emotional rock in the relationship, he starts thinking he has to do it all himself, make all the decisions himself, and that is a DISASTER) just as she would hold them.  Her ability to maintain those boundaries waned across the series--starting with how she told absolutely no one about all the people he murdered on Tatooine, up to when he was having dreams in ROTS and she knew what that did to him the last time, but still did nothing but tell him, “It’s just a dream.” to when he won’t let her talk about her concerns about Palpatine with him and she just lets that go by. On the other side of things, I think Obi-Wan’s biggest two problems were a) that he believed that Anakin should be independent when Anakin was not built for that and never was going to be (something Obi-Wan would struggle with letting go of) and b) that he was blind to Anakin’s falling, in addition to their mutually being shit at communicating with each other, of course. Obi-Wan is someone who knows himself pretty well (look at how he knows that he would have left for Satine if she’d been ready, he knows that he would leave with Anakin if Anakin had wanted to leave, he knows that he loves Anakin, that’s not exactly news to him), it’s just that he’s a reserved person.  And that’s a fine way to be!  Some people just are reserved.  Their understated words may be less effusive, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less truly meant.  The problem is that Anakin needed more and Obi-Wan didn’t see that.  He knew Anakin wanted more, but didn’t understand that he needed it instead.  He sought to train Anakin to independence, when Anakin should have been trained to realizing that this wasn’t his path.  (But, then, Obi-Wan thought the sun rose and set on that guy, so he really believed in Anakin as a Jedi.) Obi-Wan, I think, is tricky where--if he realizes that Anakin needs him?  Then he will absolutely leave the Jedi Order (because it’s not about how you can’t love people, it’s about where your priorities and balance are, which Obi-Wan knows would be with Anakin, and that’s what would clash against his Jedi ideals) to go be with Anakin.  But if he thinks that Anakin’s better off on that path without him or that he himself isn’t necessary?  Then he won’t go and I think that’s where their relationship would suffer, yeah.  ): Ultimately, this is why I think Obianidala is the most stable of the possible options--Padme needs emotional support to put those boundaries back down, Obi-Wan needs an interpreter because he doesn’t realize how much what he thinks is clear isn’t always, and Anakin needs two people to handle him and to spread the work across. Both Obikin and Anidala are rich relationships, full of people who loved each other deeply and truly, these are people who could be so good together, if given a little more breathing room and getting away from the stress of the war and Palpatine’s manipulations.  They’re both so necessary for Anakin’s character and, given some breathing room to not have their priority shifted to the war and so they could see that, no, Anakin wasn’t like this because of the war, that this was deeper than that, I think A WHOLE LOT could have been so different. Obi-Wan and Padme, for all that they’re similar in a lot of ways (especially in that Anakin is drawn to their structure and moral goodness), they’re also on opposite sides of what Anakin needs--Obi-Wan sets boundaries down too firmly without enough direct emotional softness, while Padme is too much emotional softness without the boundaries (later on) that Anakin needs.  The two of them would balance each other out and then provide exactly what Anakin needed, and that’s why I love the three of them together best of all.  ♥ (I feel like I should state that whatever criticisms I have of any characters or relationships are done from a place of my love, that I do not believe any of these relationships are worthless or terrible, certainly I don’t believe these people to have been acting out of anything less than what they thought was the best course of action and came from places of intense care and love as well.  They’re all wonderful and have such good things about them, Obikin and Anidala and Obianidala all.  ♥) (And also I feel like I should reiterate that the intention is not at all that I’m trying to change others’ minds about any of this, but that I enjoy laid back, fun discussions that make me fall in love with everyone and everything all over again!)

Constructive criticism: The Phantom Menace
Star wars. A movie made in 1977 by George Lucas. Through the use of classic archetypes and "The Hero`s Journey" he created a story that was not only popular the day it premiered but has remained so for years. With two sequels and clever merchandising (where the real money from the movie is made) money is one thing he hasn`t had to worry about (at least not much) for years. But wait. When Star wars first came out it said that it was "chapter 4" despite it being the first one in the series! Did we miss something? No. George Lucas just decided not to release them chronologically. The missing chapters would most likely be made when Lucas felt that special effects had improved enough to live up to his vision, since one of the things the first three movies were known for was the visual spectacles. Then came the day, the remaining three movies were getting made. The masses flocked to the cinemas in excitement and... reactions were mixed. Some hated it, some loved it, some, like me, thought: "It was OK I guess..." When George Lucas made the original trilogy he was not as powerful as he is today. Limitations in special effects and budget forced him to be creative and work around those limitations. He relied a bit too much on how cool CGI would make it look and the fact that people would see it because it was frickin` Star wars. Even If you overlook how hyped it was, many have agreed that The Phantom Menace has several noticable flaws. I think several of us have had ideas on how to improve this. So here are some of my thoughts on how it could have been done. SPOILERS there are here Jar Jar Binks I would keep Jar Jar because I don`t think there`s anything wrong with a little comic relief. C3PO and R2D2 filled that function in the original trilogy after all. The diffrence is that they did it well. I would change Jar Jar`s voce from sounding "Roger Rabbity" to John Leguizamo-ish, and he could have an accent, just without the "yoosa" and "meesa" stuff. (Note that I didn`t say John Leguizamo, but someone sounding kinda that way. And I`m not talking about his Sid the Sloth voice) Instead of being clumsy and goofy he would be a competent scout and lookout who`s just not used to fighting. Which means that he can`t be bannished from the gungan city for being too clumsy. Instead Boss Nass would insist on him following the two Jedis out because: "You lead them in here, so you lead them out" and he would chose to continue to follow them because he believes it`s the right thing to do. The comedy that would come from Jar Jar would be fish-out-of-water humor, since he`s an amphibian on a desert planet. To summarise: He would still be kinda funny, but not because he`s a clumsy idiot. Midichlorians Instead of finding out Anakin`s potential by meassuring his "midichlorian level" with science, Qui Gon Jinn could find it out by "sensing the force". He could close his eyes and we could see what he sees: even if everything is black, people, animals and other stuff are still visible as siluettes thanks to the Force flowing around them. But it flows even stronger around Anakin. Qui Gonn asks Obi Wan to sense the Force too and he sees what Qui Gonn saw. They both agree that he has potential and they bring him along. Anakin It`s popular to pick on Jake Lloyd (his performance could have been better) but at least half of the blame can be placed on George Lucas. The character could have been written better. Anakin should have been a kid who tries to do the best of the lot that life has given him but still, deep down, resent that he and his mother are at the lowest step of the ladder and don`t have any actual freedom, and it frustrates him. He should have been played by an actor able to handle that inner struggle. Preferably a slightly older actor. (Not necessarily older or as old as Padme, just a little older than Jake Lloyd was at that time.) The Droid army You know the Droids that went "Roger Roger" and looked like they were half robot, half spaghetti? They could have looked and been more threatening. They could also have been a bit more intelligent. I think there were a couple of robot soldiers in AotC and/or RotS that had a better design. C3PO Sure, it`s fun to see characters that you remember, but beyond that C3PO had no other function (well, maybe a little bit as a comic relief). Personally I`d save his "first" appearence for Attack of the Clones. R2D2 Personally I found it a bit odd that R2D2 got the hero`s treatment after he fixed the ship when they had to escape the planet. Partly because I don`t really see big royalties being that sentimental (Or maybe the correct word is empathic?) with the robotic servants. Also because in A new Hope they were sold as slaves by the jawas and Luke and his folks had no problem with it. (And yes, I know. Some time had passed and on some planets the rights of robots probably hadn`t progressed as far as they had on others but still.) Remember that in A new Hope C3PO said: "nobody worries about upsetting a droid." meaning that most people don`t think about droids feelings, or think that they even have any. How I would do it: After the crew are relieved that they got away and R2D2 returns back into the shuttle Padmè could read his number and say: "`R2...D2.`Is that your name... or... number? I don`t know if this means anything to you but... Thank you for saving us."And R2 could beep in response. Overuse of CGI and green screen Not against CGI but Personally I would have used it a little less than Lucas did. I think it would help the actors if they`d had more physical sets. The stilted dialogue Should have been less stilty. Someone better at writing dialogue should have handled this bit for Lucas. The Droid Army`s defeatSure, it was kinda funny, but was it right to put something that funny in such a climactic scene? Since Anakin (in this hypothetic example at least) is a little bit older than Jake Lloyd was the time, I wouldn`t have anything against if he took that ship that he flew away in and flew it over the droid army and fired on them, giving the gungans a big enough advantage to win the battle. (I think it`s a little impractical for them all to be completely dependent on one single power source and to be defeated that easily.) You may wonder what changes I would have suggested for AotC or RotS. Well, in my opinion the sequels got better, they were more similar to the Star Wars movies that I know and love. I found less things that bothered me and it`s harder for me to pinpoint all the stuff that I would have changed. Not to say that there are none. But since there aren`t as many there`s no point in giving them their own individual lists. So I`ll just add them to this one. Things that both AotC and RotS have in common with PM:Overuse of CGI and green screen and stilted dialogue. And also
Anakin Skywalker Hayden Christensen should have taken acting lesson or have been replaced by another actor. But like I said with Jake Lloyd: half of it is George Lucas`s fault. He should have put more effort into the characters. And Hayden had some good moments in RotS. Attack of the Clones Anakin lamenting after he returns home after burying his mom after killing the Tusken raiders I think his speech should have focused on how he`s used to be able to fix and repair things, but he can`t repair this and it makes him feel powerless. And yes, he did mention it briefly in that scene, I just think it should have been something his monologue could have focused more on.The "I don`t like sand" speechHe could have said something like: that he prefered being on Naboo, because even if Tattoine was his childhood home it still had some bad memories for him. (Being a slave with no rights and stuff like that.) I guess you can file this in the stilted dialogue-category. Revenge of the Sith Padmè`s death
Appearantly she died because she lost the will to live. While it is possible for a person`s emotional/mental state to lenghten or shorten their life it just feels a little melodramatic. (Or maybe forced is the right word? No pun intended if you find that punny.) Couldn`t it have been a combination of her being distressed and Anakin accidentally almost Force-choking her to death? The cheesy love dialogue Remember this? Anakin Skywalker: "You are so... beautiful." Padmé: "It's only because I'm so in love." Anakin Skywalker: "No, it's because I'm so in love with you." Padmé: "So love has blinded you?" Anakin Skywalker: [laughs] "Well, that's not exactly what I meant." Padmé: "But it's probably true." I would have cut this dialogue and just have them have a quiet, romantic scene together that lasted for a few seconds. Show, don`t tell. I guess that falls under the same dialogue-category as Attack of the Clones. There may be more things that could have been changed in the sequels but I only focused on the ones that I could pinpoint and that I could come up with ideas on how to improve. It`s called constructive criticism after all. It`s popular and easy to complain about and hate George Lucas, and while his latest contributions to cinema have been a bit lacking, he has good qualities for a film maker. The man knows how to build worlds, has a good eye for the visual and he`s an entrepreneur, he created his own visual effects company and came up with new effects instead of waitng for someone else to create them. The problem is that he focused too much on these elements and didn`t spend enough time on the others. "A special effect is a tool, a means of telling a story. A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing."George Lucas himself. And that`s it for me. Take care and may the force be with you.
