Neville, you're wearing a Slytherin tie

To be fair, they weren’t really trying to hide their relationship–they just didn’t go out of their way to announce it. If people noticed, then they noticed. If they didn’t, well, there was a thrill to acting right under people's noses.

They usually kept displays of affection to private nooks, forest shadows, or, more commonly, in the greenhouses where Neville spent much of his free time. Today was one of those days where herbology study turned practical, his hands guiding hers as he deadheaded spent blossoms, fingers plucking swift and sure. Neville didn’t do so with seduction in mind, but Pansy still shuddered at the nearness of his body as he reached around both sides of her in demonstration, the warmth of his chest seeping into her back.

“Are you cold?” He murmured, keeping a steady pace from one potted plant to the next.

“Quite the opposite, actually.” Even though it was just the two of them, she kept her voice soft to match. “It’s sweltering in here.”

This time, he paused for a brief moment, before continuing what he’d been doing.

“What?”

He huffed a quiet laugh. “It’s nothing.”

Standing up straight forced him to back up a step, and she turned to peer up at him through her blunt bangs. “Tell me.”

He had grown much taller over the past couple of years, so different from the quiet boy she remembered standing at the edges, yet still the same. He didn’t impose, didn’t presume. He waited and watched and acted precisely when needed. Like now.

Neville tilted his head as his warm eyes considered her, before slowly moving a hand up. She half expected him to cup her cheek in that gentle way of his she loved so much, but instead he gripped the end of her tie and pulled.

The silk slid silently loose, and she released a breathy sigh.

“I find that it helps to undo a few buttons whenever I’m in here.” He demonstrated with those nimble fingers once more, unfastening her collar. He stilled when she brought her hands up to lie on top of his.

“You are full of surprises, Neville.”

That smile of his. If anybody else witnessed the way his lips moved in that confident, delighted way that was pure Neville, they’d never leave him to his silence. Pansy would be shoved unceremoniously aside as the crowd demanded his attention. She didn’t want them to see this side of him that he saved for her.

It was after they had already packed up their belongings and headed back to the castle that she realized.

“My tie!”

“I’ve got it.”

She blushed as he wound the silk around her neck and proceeded to secure a knot. They stood in the Entrance Hall where anyone might see, but he continued to set her to rights as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Thank Salazar for second chances, shared courses, and a young man who just couldn’t let his classmate fail his favorite class. Her eyes roamed across his mussed hair, the sweat-slicked temples, the scruff of his unshaven face. Pansy never thought she’d prefer the scent of moist soil to cologne, but here she was, inhaling deeply like she couldn’t get enough.

Then her eyes dropped further and widened. Green and silver.

“Neville, you’re wearing a Slytherin tie.” Realization struck and she looked down at her own chest. Red and gold.

“Let’s go get dinner.” His warm hand engulfed her own and, with another of his sweet grins, he led her towards the Great Hall.

It was such a small thing, really, trading silk colors, but Pansy knew their joint entrance would send a message she thought she hadn’t been ready for. They had never announced their relationship, but that didn’t mean she was ashamed of him. If anything, he should be ashamed of her. As if sensing her hesitation, he paused in front of the doors, turned back to look at her, and waited.

The sight of him standing there—hair disheveled, expression caring and concerned, her tie around his neck—filled her to the brim with affection and longing. She could do this. She could be brave and trust in this seedling of a bond. With a sharp nod, she hung on tight to his strength and let him tug her through the door and into the light.

Pairing: Pansy Parkinson/Neville Longbottom Rating: E This is a gorgeous Pansy Parkinson character study, spanning her younger years to post-hogwarts. She becomes reacquainted with Neville Longbottom and discovers who she’s meant to be in this slow-burn ETL.

Pairing: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy Rating: E This 8th year fic is the BEST sex-pollen trope story I’ve ever read. Period. Tepre is a genius with sexual tension.

Pairing: Harry Potter/George Weasley Rating: M This is the fic that I REFUSE TO SHUT UP ABOUT (sorry if you’ve been caught in the crosshairs.) George is trying out a new line for XXX products at the joke shop. Harry is George’s go-to for product testing. Contains found family, dubious sweets, broken George, and NUTS of course! *Note the Archive warning for MCD is in reference to Fred, I think. No Harrys or Georges are harmed in the making of this fic.

4. Savour by @mignon-chignon

Pairing: Hermione Granger/Draco Malfoy Rating: E This is just pure PWP. And all my favorite kinks. Definitely not safe for ANYTHING but a quiet room, a glass of your favorite beverage, and a favorite toy. Mind the tags.

5. Like a Brother Would by @wolfpants

Pairing: Harry Potter/Ron Weasley Rating: E This Deathly Hallows AU explores the posibility of Ron returning back to the tent that night in the Forest of Dean. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read and reread this. I’m obessed with this friends to lovers pairing, this vulnerable and delicious fic. One of the best Ronarry I’ve ever read.

6. The Luxury of a Regret by @swoontodeath

Pairing: Horace Slughorn/Regulus Black, Horace Slughorn/Sirius Black Rating: E IT’S A DEAD DOVE, FOLKS! But it is so creepy and beautiful. I CANNOT stop thinking about it. Imagine if this were canon, Slughorns obession with Harry would be THAT MUCH CREEPIER.

7. Hate, Lead the Way! by oh_black_sparrow

Pairing: Walburga Black/Orion Black Rating: E One of the Rare Pair fest 2022 stories I fell head-over-heels in love with. We know her as the shrewish shrieking portrait permanently stuck to the wall in 12 Grimmauld Place, but in this rage-filled story, she’s a force to be reckoned with.

8. Manufacturing Consent by onefiftyeight

Pairing: Lucius Malfoy/Hermione Granger Rating: E HEAR ME OUT. I don’t normally go for this pairing, but THIS FIC is deliciously sinister. A masterclass in gaslighting and manipulation. A breeding kink extravaganza. Crack at its finest. Give it a chance, I promise you won’t regret it. Mostly.

9. Hot and Bothered by @roseharpermaxwell

Pairing: Ron Weasley/Draco Malfoy, background Dramione Rating: T Who’s the better kisser? Only one way to find out… (Guys. This is reason #1 why Dron is amazing. Mic Drop.)

10. I Like Your Skirt by @the-francakes

Pairing: Ron Weasley/Harry Potter Rating: E Aside from the fact that Fran is lovely and wrote this gift for me, RON AND HARRY are SO YUMMY IN THIS!!! Dual POV, Friends to Lovers, flirting, pining and no small amount of filthy content. The epilogue chapter (bonus smut) is to die for. It will forever reside in my wank bank.

harry potter (canon) couples that I could get behind + commentary

Hermione Granger x Harry Potter: Idk… I can kinda get behind this- they should relate to each other when it comes to the wizarding world. Because they were both raised by muggles, it must’ve been hard to figure out the magical world right off the bat. They also trust each other a ton. (Way more than Ron did, anyway) When Hermione brings Umbridge to the forest to trick her, Harry at first doesn’t know what she’s about to do, but he trusts her. They’re also not jealous of each other, whether it comes to romantic interest or just their capabilities in something. Hermione didn’t care that Harry was the Chosen one, and Harry didn’t care that Hermione topped him in every class.

Hermione Granger x Draco Malfoy: Popular, maybe basic opinion, but these two are the perfect balance of opposites and likes. They are both opposites when it comes to the obvious: Hogwarts houses, blood status, athletics, etc. But they both have many things in common: heavy expectations, being at the top of each class, and other more deep-rooted ideologies. This would give them both something to learn, but also something to relate to. In addition, after the war, Draco could improve his reputation by helping all of the causes and organizations that Hermione started over the years. He has a ton of money, why not donate some? I also think they could be adorable together, Draco spoiling Hermione, Hermione exposing Draco to muggle culture.

Luna Lovegood x Draco Malfoy: Besides the similar white-blonde hair and the same blood status, these two could not be more different. However, it can be a good thing. While Luna can teach Draco about leading life with love and a bit more imagination (like how she was brought up), and Draco can hold Luna to the real world and teach her about the more traditional way of life. On top of that, after the war, Luna doesn't seem like the person to care about Draco's ruined reputation. She would help him get over caring too much about what other people think and instead enjoy life more often. I feel that her forgiving nature would help Draco lead a better life. (Besides, his parents can't possibly be THAT opposed, she's a pureblood, after all)

Theodore Nott x Hermione Granger: Similar reasoning as to the Hermione x Draco ship reasoning, but also remembering that Theo and Hermione don't have as much history, which could be both bad and/or good, that's up to interpretation. I also love that Hermione used a time turner in her younger years, and Theo gets in trouble for being involved in handling illegal magical goods, ie a time turner.

Draco Malfoy x Theodore Nott: With both of their father's being servants of Voldemort, the two supposedly bonded, finding solace in each other. They both also survive the war, so helping each other through hardships would be a critical piece of the story because of how much they relate to and understand when it comes to one another. I also love how Theo was never really in Draco's "Gang" which makes me believe that he has his own independent mind, which is always important.

Luna Lovegood x Theodore Nott: Sunshine x Grumpy? Both see Thestrals? Like the Luna x Draco reasoning, they can learn lots from each other, + ignore the society's views on them because they both don't care.

Luna Lovegood x Neville Longbottom: Ok EVEN THOUGH Luna Lovegood x Rolf Scamander is the most genius idea that JK Rowling has had in her entire career, this could work. The fact that both passionate about their own respective interests makes conversation and life very unique. They're both also good listeners, which makes open communication very effective. Luna could teach Neville to ignore the haters, and Neville is a good anchor for Luna.

Pansy Parkinson x Neville Longbottom: I think that Pansy x Neville isn't such a bad idea. They're kind of opposites, but I love the idea that Neville gives so-called ice-queen-Pansy a safe space to be herself, to be a soft and warm. On the flipside, I think Pansy could teach Neville a thing or two about not being a pushover, and maybe even adding a little snark to conversations.

Pansy Parkinson x Harry Potter: I feel like this would work really well. Honestly though, Pansy would wear the pants in this relationship hands down. I feel like they would have a ton of chemistry... and they would learn a lot from each other. Pansy would humble Harry, Harry would humble Pansy. Simple.

Draco Malfoy x Ginny Weasley: Both Quidditch Fanatics? Both have passionate and fiery personalities? Both have unusually coloured hair? Enemies to Lovers? HMMMM?

Blaise Zabini x Ginny Weasley: Both fit as heck, both very sassy and witty. They'd charm the pants off of each other, both figuratively and literally... they'd have fun. I'd say this is better than Ginny x Draco

Astoria Greengrass x Theodore Nott: idk why but this just works

Theodore Nott x Harry Potter: again, idk why but this would work too
