What about a AFAB!reader that likes to open her mouth and sometimes you do it without realizing it.
I read somewhere that eels have it like an invitation to mate or something like that (dont remember so much)
And about if is jade or floyd… well, both are my favs so I cant choose. What works better I guess
EEK TYSM!!! I feel as tho floyd would fit this better bc jade is a smart boy, probs knows that humans just open their mouths wide for random shit but floyd

NOT PROOFREAD
~~~~~~~~~~~~~♧♧~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
♧ you were originally here to study.
Seeing as your boyfriend, Floyd, was nowhere to be seen. Sitting in the mostro lounge while waiting for Floyd to be on break was a normal occurrence.
Since it had been awhile with slight glimpses of him taking care of customers, you decided to start studying on your own. Opening up a text book and starting to read and take notes, Jade comes over with your order.
"Apologies for my brother taking so long. The customers he has are being seriously rude, we're trying our best to have him not squish them." Jade says as he places your tea on the table in front of you.
"How long will he be?" You ask as you take a small sip of your tea. Jade rests his chin on his hand as he closes his eyes, seemingly in thought.
"Soon." He simply says as he walks away.
Although odd, you've gotten used to Jades strange behavior. As you were about to return to studying, you spotted Floyd waiting on the table across from you. He shoots you a smile before turning back to his customers.
You took that as a sign to go back to studying. Flipping open your text book, you begin to take notes again. As you get further into the book, your eyelids begin to feel heavy. Resting your head on your hand, you start to close your eyes for longer periods once blinking.
As you began to drift off to a light sleep, you felt yourself yawning as you began to shift in your chair.
Having finally settled in a comfortable position, you begin to get lulled into a peaceful sleep by the surround sound of calming music in the lounge.
Drifting off, you get woken up by a sudden loud noise. "Boo!" It was Floyd, creeping up behind you just to scare you awake. Playfully punching his chest as you complain about how you just fell asleep, he takes your hand, leading you off somewhere.
"Floyd, where are you taking me?" You say between giggles. "Somewhere, it'll be fun, I promise." He says as he gives you a wink.
He leads you to the VIP room, which usually isn't occupied by anyone, like now. Just the two of you. He turns around to lock the door, he turns back to you, eyes widened with an unpleasant look on his face.
"That thing you did out there, I cant believe you did it infront of other men. Do you understand what they may think now? Think im not your boyfriend? Think I dont treat you well enough?" Confusion. All you felt in the moment was pure confusion.
"Floyd, what the fuck are you talking about? I was just studying, nothing happened." You could tell he was getting frustrated. "That thing! Where you opened your mouth wide!"
"You mean yawning? The.... thing people do.... when they're tired?"
"You can't do that around merfolk." Oh. Oh? This seems like something you can tease him on.
"Oh? And whys that, Mr eel boy?" You say as you chuckle. Somehow, floyd got even more pissed at this, he slammed both your arms above you and against the wall behind you, eyes still wide, and very much angry.
"You don't understand what you're doing. You're making a mating invite by doing that, what if the other merfolk saw? Or worse, what if Jade saw?"
"Floyd im sorry okay, I didn't mean to, seriously-" you were cut off by him smashing his lips onto yours, you fed into it, not resisting in the slightest.
He began to sink his head down to your neck, making soft bites on it and licking up the semi bloody aftermath. "If you want to act like a slut, then I'll fuck you like one." He says before digging his open hend into the flesh of your thigh and biting down on your collar bone.
You choke out a groan at the sudden pain as floyd slowly kisses the bite, making it feel more pleasurable than anything.
Once hes done, he looks up at you. "You're okay with this, right?"
"Yeah, just don't do anything stupid." You're able to say between puffs of hot air. Giving you a smile, he hooks his finger under the strap of your panties, taking his other hand off your wrists. Sliding down the peice of fabric while biting off his glove, he starts to suck on your neck as he begins to work his fingers into you.
Taking his thumb and rubbing it over your clit as he slowly sinks two fingers inside you. You moan out as he begins to curl them in you, sucking on the bite mark you made earlier.
"F-fuck... I cant take it anymore." Floyd groans out as he unbuckles his belt. Lining up his thick cock with your hole, "You're sure you're okay with this, right?" He says one last time in a panted breath.
"Yes just... don't do anything stupid-" and you were cut off once again by him doing something stupid.
He thrusts his whole length into you at once, earning a low, throaty groan from him as you were just trying to find stability. He takes both you thighs and wraps them around his waist, being able to hit much deeper in the position.
Mere seconds later, all the pain you felt turned into pure, absolute pleasure as he started fucking you against the wall.
Filling the room with moans of utter bliss from the both of you, having Floyd come completely undone after minutes. "I'm gonna fill you up so fucking good- make everyone know you're mine- have those other eel bitches know if you're gonna be a slut, you're gonna be mine, understood?"
You're barely able to make his words out as you start to feel lightheaded from the pleasure. His grip on you tightens as you feel him twitch inside you. "Fuck, im gonna-" he was cut off by a powerful moan as he came inside you, slowing down his pace in the process.
Floyd slowly sinks down to the floor as he places you down on it, leaving you for a moment as he grabs a wash cloth. He starts to clean you in silence, waiting for you to say something. You were too tired to speak, however.
Once you're clean, he makes himself presentable again as he picks you up and walks you back to your table. Once he sets you down, he walks off and brings back a bottle of water and some snacks.
"Dont worry, they're on me." He says with a wink.
As he turns to walk away, you grab onto his sleeve to get his attention. He leans in close to hear you over the bustling crowd. "Floyd, I didn't get to fini-" he places his index finger over your mouth.
"Now, now, I didn't forget my dear, I promise. If you're good today then I'll double it tonight, hm?" And with that, he walks off and returns to his job where jade and azul kept yelling at him for bailing.
As you sit in silence while occasionally looking over at Floyd, he makes eye contact with you while being yelled at. Going back to you table, you realize something, your tea has gone cold.
Oh dear, whoever will you call over to replace it?
we've always seen jade jealous of floyd and reader's relationship. but what if we reversed, floyd is the jealous one. do you think that's possible? if it is possible, what would floyd do?
:O it's very possible for a jealous Floyd!!! I like to think he's a bit of a brat about it. Actually,,,, both eels are sort of spoiled brats. ^^;;; they operate under the assumption that they can have and get anything they want. Floyd has a line for one of his birthdays in which he essentially tells people it's his birthday just so they'd give him a gift. T_T and then there's the story behind the twins' earrings and how they wanted those scales so badly that they fought the sturgeon for them and took them as a prize of sorts.
So I think they aren't really used to hearing the word 'no' or being told they can't have something. Their parents obviously dote on them, with their mother calling them nearly every day to check in and chat because she's prone to worrying. And then there's also the fact that birthdays are always very extravagant events in their family.
With that in mind, I imagine Floyd just gets really huffy and pouty when he sees you and Jade being too friendly for his liking. Maybe he even walks up to the both of you and forces himself between you just to physically distance Jade. Knowing Jade's proclivity for pushing buttons, he probably delights in Floyd's envy and does everything he can just to see how far he can push his brother. Jade will cozy up to you in the library, get your lunch for you, offer to feed you, stray so close into mate territory, and it drives Floyd mad. It should be Floyd who gets to bring you meals or beat others up after they took the last of your favorite sweet treat. Jade's just getting in the way.
Jade's way of thinking when he's jealous is extreme but also very clinical: If the thing causing a problem is swiftly removed, I can be happy again. Floyd doesn't really think that way. Whereas Jade has murder on his mind, Floyd just thinks of his brother as an annoying pest for getting between him and Shrimpy. Like all siblings do, they'll bicker and fight. Most of it is harmless. A little scathing, but it doesn't get out of hand. Not yet, at least.
Of course there's only so much Floyd can take before his annoyance bleeds into anger and then there's more bite to his words, more strength in his fists. The twins don't fight often, but when they do it's a nasty ordeal. Floyd's smart enough to know not to act like that around you, especially since he doesn't want to scare you away if you see him at his most violent, and Jade knows this, which is precisely why he'll push his brother to that breaking point. >_<
Mostly, though, I think Floyd just sulks. Jealousy is an exhausting emotion and Floyd doesn't like being bogged down by something so heavy all the time. As a result, it'll show in his moods. Sometimes you'll come up to him and smile that cute smile of yours, but even then he just can't be bothered to entertain if you smell like Jade all the time. He'll pat you on the head and apologize, saying he's not in the mood to play today. And then he's stalking off to find peace in tranquil solitude.
He'll feel better tomorrow. Maybe then he'll have you all to himself.
Imagine…
A date in the botanical gardens with Leona Kingscholar. It’s barely been an hour since the Fairy Gala ended, but Leona is too exhausted to change out of the fancy garb he was “forced” into for the event. All he wants is to have his peaceful retreat back to the way it was, without the glitter and lights littering the planters.
Leona pulls you closer to his chest. You feel the rumble of his voice deep inside as he closes his eyes and holds you tight. “They’ve got some nerve, takin’ over my place like this. Lay down with me, herbivore. I need some time with my girl to recharge.”
Imagine…
Working the late shift at Mostro Lounge with Azul Ashengrotto and Jade and Floyd Leech After hours, when the purple glow from the aquarium lights bathes the place in shadow, you sit down at a corner booth with the Octavinelle trio while they discuss the day’s profits.
“Maaaan, this is getting boring,” Floyd complains. He’s sitting backwards in a chair, dangling his long arms over the backrest. “I’m goin’ back to my dorm room to go to sleep.”
Jade smiles at his brother’s mercurial behavior. “Floyd is right,” he addresses Azul. “It’s getting quite late. We should all retire to our rooms soon, lest we get too little sleep for tomorrow.” There’s a glint of mischief in his eyes as he glanced over at you. “I believe a good-night kiss is in order for us before we depart?”
You giggle. “Of course, you dumb eel.”
Jade bends down to let you peck him on the cheek. Floyd wraps his arms around you and lifts you up so you can reach his forehead. And when he sets you down, out of the corner of your eye, you see Azul with his lips pursed irritably.
“What’s wrong, Azul?” You tease. “Feeling left out? I’ll give you one too. You just have to ask.”
You love how easily Azul flusters. He’s placing a hand over his mouth and cheek to hide the evidence of his blush, but you know him better than that. Even if he denies it, he’ll never complain about receiving a kiss.
Imagine…
Stargazing with Malleus Draconia. He’s invited you on many a walk at night, but the sky has never been so clear before. For once, you convince him to tear his eyes away from the gargoyles of Ramshackle Dorm and look up at the pinpricks of light, so far away from where you stand as unexpected memories from your world come tumbling back to you.
“I think I remember something about my world…” you hesitantly whisper as Malleus rests beside you, hand gripped in yours. “Someone said that the light from stars takes years to reach us, because they’re so far away. Even light isn’t instant. So when we look at stars, we’re looking at how they looked in the past.”
Hmm… Malleus thinks to himself. He had never heard of such a thing before. He would doubt the accuracy of it, if it didn’t come from you. He would always believe you.
A part of him is happy that stars could be such a mysterious thing. It meant that somewhere in the world, the past was still happening. Malleus has lived a long life and seen many people come and go. But now he knew they would always exist. Maybe not on this earth, but in the sky. Somewhere out there, in the darkness between the stars.
Imagine…
Prom night with Vil Schoenheit. NRC doesn’t hold school dances often, so this is a special day. Everyone knows that Vil had been voted Prom King by his fellow students, so it’s only natural that you would rule by his side for the night, as his Queen.
He’s standing behind you in a crisp white suit, hair done up in a ponytail. Handsome, beautiful, breathtaking. All things you could use to describe the love of your life, Vil Schoenheit.
“Pull up your hair, dear,” Vil murmurs into the back of your neck as he zips up your dress. He places his hands on your shoulders, and you catch a glimpse of the two of you in the mirror.
You’re surprised to see the face staring back at you is still your own. Even with all the makeup and fancy clothes and highlighting, you still look like yourself. Vil always knows how to make you feel beautiful, without losing track of who you are. You can’t help but grin at him, and he smiles softly back.
“I dare say, my love, that there’s no way for me to be the fairest one of all tonight. How could I be, when you stand by my side?”
Hidden Monsters
For some reason this has been a bear (dragon, Vrathean, pick your Star Wars creature) to write, but I realized after this last episode of TBB that there was more to the “monster of the week” trope that we all love to get tired of in Star Wars, and specifically for our beloved Batch members. I believe that some of the main “monsters” each member of the Batch has faced and could face represent inner turmoil and the storms/dark things within that each of them has had to wrestle with. The choices each of them have made to tame or calm or live with the creatures they have encountered, instead of automatically killing them or choosing violence against them, is a powerful metaphor. Something that looks like a monster on the outside may not necessarily be a monster on the inside, when cared for and acknowledged properly.
Echo and the Rishi Eel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Echo’s very first mission on Rishi station involved a giant monster, a droid army invasion, watching his superior officer die in front of him, and losing most of his squad along with the entire outpost he had been assigned to help defend. After the Rishi station is overrun by battle droids, Echo, Fives, Hevy, and Cutup escape through an air vent only to land in the middle of what turns out to be the Rishi eel’s nest. Echo is second to last in line and has to watch as Cutup is snatched up by the eel right behind him and swallowed whole. Echo is the only one to look back and commemorate Cutup with his name and a sigh before they have to keep moving. He does the same at the end of the episode when they lose Hevy, thanking him for his self sacrifice. Echo’s mind—strategic, careful, hesitant, wanting to do the right thing—is always on his brothers and their safety, and his own fears and questioning give way to courage and determination as he watches his brothers do what needs to be done.
This formative experience is literally emblazoned on Echo’s chest and becomes part of his identity when Rex shoots the eel in the eye, wipes some of its blood on his hand, and presses it against Echo’s armor as he encourages him to keep going. This combination of bravery, looking death in the eye, and holding compassion for each of his brothers as they fall continues to be a running theme throughout Echo’s character arc—from holding 99 in his arms as he dies, to hanging in the Techno Union chamber where his mind and body were used to hunt down the brothers he loved, to overcoming the changes and loss he’s experienced and finding a new family with the Batch and Omega, to coming full circle and joining Rex to help free his brothers from the Empire’s grip. He has had to watch as brother after brother is taken away from him, but he has learned how to keep going in the face of loss. These experiences bring out who he is—caring, loyal, brave, resolute, and a symbol of endurance—and trace back to the very first monster he had to face.
Hunter, Omega, and the Ordo Moon Dragon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In season 1 the Batch is newly on the run from Kamino after Order 66, finding Omega, and losing Crosshair. They crash onto an uninhabited planet and while trying to repair their ship, an Ordo Moon Dragon makes off with their capacitor, leaving them stranded. Like the Zillo beast seen in season 2, it feeds on energy but is actually peaceful when not provoked. Hunter wants to track it down, by himself, but Omega insists on accompanying him. While tracking the creature, Omega brings up Crosshair’s absence, and Hunter is unwilling to even say Crosshair’s name, and he is very uncomfortable with the conversation. He is unwilling and unable to face his demons right now, and instead is wallowing in self-blame. Hunter won’t be able to fully face his inner turmoil until Crosshair returns and they encounter the Wyrm on Barton IV, another dragon-like creature which also burrows underground (although it is much, much larger, and more harmful than the Ordo Moon Dragon, signifying how much Hunter’s avoidance and resentment grows over time as it is not dealt with). It’s also interesting that this episode cuts back and forth to Crosshair fully under the influence of the chip and wiping out Saw Gurerra’s insurgents in a very violent manner.
Hunter ends up being knocked out by the creature and Omega takes her flashlight and his blaster to complete the mission, going alone into the tunnels where the dragon lives. What Omega learns is that she doesn’t need the blaster to deal with the situation. As scary as it is, she doesn’t have to kill the dragon or use violence against it, as it’s simply hungry and looking for food. The terrifying creature becomes a thing of beauty, green electric shocks running over its rainbow colored body, illuminating the tunnel and Omega’s face as it feeds on the flashlight she throws to it in exchange for their capacitor. The visuals mimic the teal and green rippling over the Vrathean that Omega and Ventress encounter and have to calm down in season 3 (more on that further on).
However, this wasn’t Omega’s mission. It was Hunter’s, but she ends up completing it for him. Omega learns a valuable lesson here, which fits in with her natural tendencies of drawing both people and animals to her caring, compassionate nature instead of judging them based on appearance, but I’m not sure that this was her ultimate trial in facing her own inner demons. (See my thoughts on why this is important at the end of this essay in the Ventress section.) This also was a failed attempt for Hunter, and he would end up facing his trial again in The Return in season 3.
Wrecker and the Rancor (Muchi)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wrecker was introduced as a character whose expertise is in explosives and making things blow up. He lives for making a ruckus and having a good time, but his strengths are engineered to be used for destruction.
Much of Wrecker’s character arc in season 1 is learning how to become more of an adult/parental figure for Omega, and how to put his own desires and needs aside in order to help take care of hers (letting her eat first, making a room for her in the gunners nest, watching out for her). In Rampage, the Batch is charged with rescuing a “child,” who they eventually find out is a young, ornery, and decidedly huge Rancor. Wrecker is the only one of them strong enough to sedate the creature after a lengthy bout of essentially hand to hand “combat.” They needed to bring Muchi back alive and Wrecker ends up gaining mutual affection and respect with her. Muchi is now calm and tamed enough that Omega can ride on her back with no fear or worry of danger.
Rancors adhere to a strict social and familial hierarchy, and have to challenge the alpha for authority. Wrecker starts out brash and boastful, and even though he is always caring, he becomes much more aware of his surroundings and his standing in their family unit as he grows in his responsibilities toward Omega. Rampage is shortly before his chip goes off, where he almost kills his entire squad. While his brute strength is an asset when used in the right ways, it is lethal if used for the wrong ones, and through his family bonds (especially with Omega) Wrecker is ultimately able to overcome the worst, chipped version of who he had been made to be, and instead be a source of safety and strength for Omega and his family.
Tech and the Zillo Beast
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Zillo beast is a marvel amongst Star Wars creatures. Its armor is impenetrable and highly valuable, and it feeds almost exclusively on energy, which allows it to become larger and morph into an even more powerful creature. When the Batch encounters it in season 2 in Metamorphasis, it tries to attack all of them, but Tech is the only one who is “fascinated” by the creature rather than scared of it. Similar to the Zillo beast feeding on energy, Tech’s mind was what he was known for, and he “fed” it by constantly consuming and integrating data about the world around him (which is transmitted by energy currents). During this episode Tech is confident in his own capabilities and extremely interested in learning more about the cloning technologies they were uncovering on this crashed ship. Tech’s research on the Zillo beast, while helpful, unfortunately comes too late and the Batch are unable to either put down or recapture the creature before it grows too strong for them to deal with. In the process, the Zillo beast escapes and is eventually recaptured by the Empire.
I’ve always been fascinated by the point in this episode where Tech is downloading the rest of the information from the terminal onto his data pad, and Hunter warns Omega that Imperials are inbound. She immediately tells Tech they need to go, and he refuses for a moment, saying he needs to finish capturing the data. If Omega did not pressure him to leave (and the electricity go out), he very well could have been standing there when ships bomb their location a few moments later, and gotten both himself and Omega killed for no good reason. At this moment his love of knowledge is overpowering his common sense and his love for his family, and it almost costs him everything.
Contrast this to a few moments later when he pulls Omega out of danger as they leave the ship, and Plan 99 when he chooses to sacrifice himself not for his own gain, but solely so his family has a chance to live. He had to face his greatest asset where it could also be his greatest failure, and learn how to prioritize and wield his strengths.
Crosshair and the Vulture
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In The Outpost in season 2, Crosshair has spent almost two seasons engulfed in poor choices made both against his will (the chip), and of his own volition (staying with the Empire no matter what in pursuit of a sense of purpose and loyalty). His decisions are starting to grate on him and have led him down a dark path, but he hasn’t been fully ready to find a way to change them. When he lands on the icy planet of Barton IV, he encounters fearsome ice vultures shrieking overhead. He is told by the outpost’s commanding clone officer, Mayday, that the creatures are vicious, but admirable, because they find a way to survive.
Vultures signify both death and cleansing and are often feared and viewed with disgust, yet are an integral part of nature. Crosshair’s isolation and status as a clone soldier have put him in a precarious and often misjudged position, in ways he doesn’t even fully realize until this episode. His very life is in danger due to the Empire’s stance toward the clones, but so far Crosshair has believed that he is valuable to the Empire in ways that the regular clones are not. This attitude and perspective are severely challenged by Lieutenant Nolan, who speaks contemptuously both about and to every clone he encounters. Nolan’s lack of respect for them as soldiers, as officers, and even as people, is an extreme look at what Crosshair’s callousness and misplaced loyalty could lead him to if he is not careful. His fate is hanging in the balance.
After being sent on an inhumane mission to retrieve two crates of armor in a blinding snowstorm, Crosshair and Mayday are caught in an avalanche. After coming up out of the snow gasping for air, Crosshair could choose to get himself back to base and leave Mayday behind. Find a way to survive in the cold on his own, but kill the last of his compassion and personal values in the process. Instead, he chooses to put his life even more at risk to bring Mayday along with him.
Unfortunately for both of them, when they get back to base, Nolan has zero sympathy for their self-sacrifice, and allows Mayday to die unceremoniously on the platform from his wounds. Once again, a vulture is circling overhead, waiting to partake of its next meal. It signifies the threat of death but also Crosshair’s struggle and desire to survive. Crosshair is now staring his own lack of value and expendability in the face, and where he finds himself is now fully intolerable. He cannot continue on the way he has been without the very essence of who he is breaking irreparably in the process. Does he reclaim who he is, a compassionate and forceful individual who protects those he cares about? Or does he fall in line with what the Empire wants from him, knowing he will be discarded regardless?
Crosshair integrates his lesson in a visceral manner, his own personal traits mimicking the very essence of the ice vulture as he finally reorients his moral compass, takes a stand for himself and for his clone brothers, and takes vengeance on Lieutenant Nolan. His caution and inner turmoil are channeled into one desperate act as he becomes an agent/angel of death, the framing of the scene creating vulture-like wings spread on either side of him. He doesn’t expect to survive this encounter, choosing a path that looks like death on the outside but is cleansing and redeeming for him on the inside. He can now face the future as his whole, integrated self.
Hunter, Crosshair, the Vulture, and the Wyrm
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The vulture and its meaning for Crosshair, as well as Hunter’s cut-short encounter with the Ordo Moon Dragon, both have their bookends in season 3’s episode The Return. Crosshair has seen immense character growth after his choices in The Outpost, and has not only redeemed himself but has been given the chance to start reconciling with everyone he has hurt. This episode has two creatures that serve two important purposes: the vulture returns as a metaphor for Crosshair’s need to reconcile with and forgive himself, and a new creature, a giant wyrm (nice Dune reference there, Star Wars) highlights the fractured rift between him and Hunter, and the anger, distrust, and resentment that Hunter has been running from since Aftermath.
The Batch has returned to Barton IV, and Crosshair is greeted by the ice vulture as they land. The weather is calm and clear this time, and the creature is observing him but not in a threatening way. At the same time, tensions rise to a breaking point between Hunter and Crosshair and a long-awaited argument starts between them. Before it can be resolved, the wyrm erupts out of the ground and puts all of their lives in danger. It had been kept at bay previously by high-pitched noises, (oddly similar to Hunter’s enhanced senses, which he has been so distracted from that he wasn’t aware of the danger ahead of time) and lived underneath the same snow that had buried Crosshair and Mayday.
In their efforts to draw the creature away from the outpost so they can turn the sensors back on, Hunter falls through the snow into the wyrm’s tunnels. Crosshair has already had his inner journey underneath the snow on Barton IV. This time, Hunter has to finally face his own struggles. Every step of the way he has been running and hiding, trying to keep his family and Omega safe by keeping them away from the Empire, away from Crosshair, away from danger, but failing miserably. This time, Hunter could simply let Crosshair haul him back up to the surface when he reaches the spot where Crosshair and Batcher have dug a hole in the ice to pull him out. But he hasn’t confirmed that the wyrm is actually past the boundary and that it is safe to turn the perimeter sensors back on. This time, Hunter stays below the surface, and keeps himself in harms way until he is absolutely sure that his family is safe and that his own emotions have been worked through. He is starting to take responsibility for his journey. His senses start to kick in again and he refuses to leave the tunnel until the wyrm is barreling down his neck, and then he finally accepts Crosshair’s help. Both of them run to safety, the perimeter beacons turn on, and the wyrm is now on the other side of an invisible barrier of sound, harmless and chastened until it finally slinks away.
The boys exchange glances and nods. Their rift has been bridged and they are both willing to move forward, together. This is proven by the end of the episode, where Crosshair, who has remained closed off and unwilling to discuss what he’s been through, opens up slightly to Hunter before they leave, and Hunter responds with forgiveness, acknowledgement, and hope for the future. And for now, it’s enough. Crosshair looks into the sky and watches the ice vulture flying overhead once again. Except this time, it flies off into the sunset, signifying that his lessons from this planet have been fully learned, that the spirit of survival in the face of death that he has been carrying with him can now be put towards living and thriving again. Both Hunter and Crosshair are leaving slightly more whole than when they first arrived, both as individuals and in their restored relationship with each other.
Ventress, Omega, and the Vrathean
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omega gets a second chance at taming a terrifying creature in The Harbinger in season 3. After Asajj Ventress shows up on Pabu to help the Batch figure out the m-count conundrum that makes Omega’s blood so valuable to the Empire, (and after Omega has begged her to stay and test her capabilities), she and Omega go out onto the ocean to test Omega’s potential Force sensitivity. (Also after Ventress had to whoop the boys’ backsides to get them to slightly trust her, but we won’t go into that here).
Throughout this season, (and really for most of her life), Omega has…not been doing well. Her time on Tantiss, leaving the rest of the clones imprisoned there behind when she and Crosshair escaped, and the relentless pursuit of her by the Empire has truly traumatized her and made her single-mindedly want to know why she is always in danger and putting everyone else around her in danger as well. Her mental health has been spiraling a bit and her inner turmoil is starting to rival Crosshair’s in season 2. She knows that m-count is important and is also thrilled at Ventress mentioning the Jedi, while the rest of the Batch and Ventress herself are very somber about the prospect that Omega might have Force capabilities. However, in her desire to have answers, she ends up being very impatient and frustrated and doesn’t even show her typical level of optimism and concentration in working through Ventress’ tests for her. It’s almost like her goal (finding answers) is at odds with what her idea of finding those answers looks like.
After having tried and failed to “reach out” to the Force to summon anything, Omega pouts and sits back down in the boat, seemingly defeated. Ventress has asked her to try to connect to nature, probably because she has seen Omega’s connection to Batcher and assumes that might be more in line with whatever her gifting might be. Two of Omega’s main traits and strengths are her optimism in the face of defeat, and her compassion toward literally every living thing she encounters. She is always curious, generous, caring, and wanting to connect with others. Which makes it even more curious that she is so easily stumped and disconnected by this exercise. She challenges Ventress to prove why *she* is the best person to be teaching Omega this lesson, and Ventress sighs but gently and carefully shows her powers by calling up a school of glowing green fish from the water. “I’m not the one holding back,” she tells Omega.
After a peaceful moment, however, another creature, this time a giant and tentacled Vrathean, emerges from the water as well and starts hunting Ventress and Omega down. It’s unclear if Ventress actually called the creature up herself or not, but if she did it was not intentional. She helps rescue Omega from the creature’s clutches and then chooses to put herself in more danger by letting it grab her, and communing with it through the Force as it tries to eat her. The deadly creature becomes a thing of astonishing beauty as the color of the sea ripples over its body and its eyes soften and recognize Ventress as a sentient being.
This is where it gets interesting, because this peacefulness, calm, and compassion is not something we would have associated with prior versions of Ventress. Her experiences and growth throughout the Clone Wars, her associations with Ahsoka and Quinlan, and her choices have turned her into a much softer and stronger version of herself. This has now become her trial by allowing her to showcase just how much she has changed, and how much her own worldview has flipped.
This is an incredible example for Omega, but similar to how she took Hunter’s trial for him in Replacement, Ventress has now filled what was supposed to be hers. This begs the question, what is Omega actually holding back on? Is she really Force sensitive? Or is just her compassion and tenderness toward everyone around her overtaking her in unhealthy ways? She has always had a tendency to put herself in harms way in an attempt to make up for the complications her presence brings her brothers.
Omega will have to face these implied monsters at some point. I’m not actually certain that she will end up facing a creature like everyone else has—there’s the possibility that because she naturally has more affinity with creatures and beings that look monstrous but really aren’t, she may end up facing her inner demons in another manner. Will it be a person instead? Or a choice? Even, might I say, an identity crisis? It remains to be seen, but the fact that she must face it in order to overcome and integrate it is unquestionable.
Nesta was at the point where she had reached a steady routine, which rarely deviated. The routine gave her structure, predictability and peace she had never had the comfort of knowing in her previous marriage unless Tomas locked her in their rooms. At first, when he would lock her in their rooms for days, he would beg him to let her out, which only made him angrier. Then, he would deny her food during her punishment. Once she got used to living in that house, she saw him locking her away for what it truly was: a blessing in disguise. She was safely locked away in the rooms, with nobody watching her or worse.
Of course, eventually, Tomas realised she actually enjoyed the time alone, so it stopped. He couldn't have his wife enjoy her punishment after all. Instead, he decided that the physical punishments were better suited since Nesta enjoyed her own company.
Her current husband had clearly decided that her punishment for misbehaving was to just continue like nothing happened. Her wrongdoings from the ball had not been mentioned, and he seemed to avoid the subject while simultaneously wanting to speak on it. Nesta was fine with the indecision and continued to spend her days in the library. She would do so happily if she could stay there all night, too, but she didn't want to push her luck. Her husband seemed reasonable, but you could never predict what would make a man snap. Still, she knew that in the library, she was safe.
Her husband seemed nervous when he entered the library and rarely seemed to do so. Nesta assumed the years of neglect his family's legacy had seen made him feel uncomfortable, or perhaps it was something else entirely. Still, either way, Nesta did not mind that he rarely entered.
She had thought she understood men very well up until her second marriage. There were men like Tomas, who wanted to show everyone how powerful they were, puffing their chests out like peacocks, just because he wanted to show the world something other than what he was. He seemed unable to move out of his brother's shadow and turned to anger.
Then, there were men like Philip, who would crush anything they could not control. They were as slippery as an eel and sly as a fox and rarely had anyone tell them no. Those types of men were worse because they were much more confident in themselves compared to the kind of man Tomas was. At least with Tomas, Nesta knew she could play to his ego, which would appease him.
Then there was the kind of man Robert Mandray was. He was so gentle he was almost like a woman. His brothers had no respect for him because of it, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't make himself more like his brothers. His wife had once disrespected his brother at the dinner table, so he slapped her across the face. Philip had looked proud, but Robert had looked horrified. He had left the house the following day, taking his wife with him. Nesta understood why; it was unsafe for either of them in a house like that. Robert was too gentle, and Philip was known for wandering eyes, hands and penis, too, if he could help it. It didn't matter if the recipient of his advances were open to them.
Perhaps the Duke was more like Robert, but then she wasn't sure if she believed that. He could command a room, and nobody could say he wasn't powerful. Nesta didn't understand much about the running of estates, but she knew the Duke of Illyria was good at it and had many profitable estates up and down the country. That kind of money came to someone other than someone who would run like Robert. Her husband had also gifted her with so much; she knew other men would dislike her being given such freedom and power. She was sure Tomas was turning in his grave, yet the Duke did not care.
Perhaps this was the freedom someone with his status and power could expect. The Duke did not care that Nesta could run wild with all the freedoms he gave her. He was too rich and powerful to care. Even the talk of society didn't bother the Duke; it seemed not to reach his ears. Important people clearly didn't have the time for such things. The issue was that Nesta had never been around someone with such importance, so she had yet to learn how she should act.
As Nesta steadied herself at the top of a ladder to clean the top of yet another shelf, she thought about how easy it would be for her to fall from this height. She could injure herself pretty badly if she landed on her head in the right way. She could die, and nobody would realise until lunchtime. But as soon as the horrific thought popped into her head, she shook it away. She couldn't do that. The burden that would put on her sisters and, worse, the Duke was too much. Feyre was so heavily pregnant, and she didn't want to do anything to put the baby at risk. Elain couldn't stop mentioning her children and wanting them to meet their aunt Nesta. And then, of course, the Duke would be the subject of a lot of scandalous talk if she died. No, she couldn't do that to them. She had a responsibility to them all. Her mother had always said it was her burden to shoulder these responsibilities. Even after her mother's death, she had been unable to move past that feeling.
There was a knock at the door, one that startled Nesta out of her thoughts. Only Claude and the Duke came here, but neither knocked so timidly as this person did. There was another knock, this time a little louder at the lack of response. Nesta called for them to enter and started climbing down the ladder.
To her surprise, it was a little boy who entered. The awe was evident on his face as he walked in, scanning the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. The boy was so entranced by all the books he tripped over his own two feet but managed to catch himself before he hit the ground. He quickly straightened himself out, but his face started to colour when he looked over and saw that Nesta had been watching him.
He cleared his throat awkwardly before finally speaking. "My Lady," he said and then paused. Then, he did the stiffest, most awkward bow known to man.
Nesta stifled a laugh at that but decided to put the clearly nervous boy out of his misery. "How can I help you this fine morning, good sir?" She said, matching the boy's formality and curtsying back to him.
The boy's eyes widened in horror. "Please, My Lady, you don't need to bow to me. My name's Arthur and I'm Eleanor's son; my mother said she's your maid?" The boy was clearly unsure if Nesta would even know who his mother was.
Now that the boy mentioned it, she could see their similarities. "Of course, it's nice to meet you, Arthur," Nesta said, putting on her best smile. It had been so long since she had smiled that she felt out of practice. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
"Oh, well, I was wondering if you needed any help, My Lady?" he said awkwardly while shifting around, avoiding eye contact.
Nesta tried to control her facial expression at that. Why would this boy want to help her? Well, her first thought instantly went to her husband. He must've wanted the boy to spy on her. But then, another part of her questioned this logic. Why would the Duke wish to spy on her when nothing else entered the library? It would only make sense if he was worried about Claude, which also didn't make any sense. Claude loved the Duke far too much to risk doing anything that would anger him.
"Why do you want to help me?" Nesta said, trying to keep her suspicions out of it. She didn't want the boy to feel like he was being backed into a corner. "This isn't where a young boy like yourself would want to spend his day. Surely, you'd rather go outside and play instead?" Nesta said, smiling so the boy didn't feel attacked by her words.
"Well, ma'am, I know I'm young, but I want to work to help my mother. We- well, we don't live with our father anymore, so my mother works really hard. I'm the eldest, so I want to help her. Maybe, if I help you, the Duke will see and give me other tasks to do, too," the boy was nervous about telling her his motivations, but Nesta couldn't help but smile at how sweet he was.
She had no idea Eleanor didn't have her husband with her, but her son was clearly nervous about mentioning him, so Nesta didn't delve into that anymore. "Well, as you can see, there's a lot to do around here, so I certainly wouldn't mind the help," Nesta said, gesturing around them.
That put a smile on the boy's face. He rolled his sleeves up, readying himself for some action. "What do you want me to do first, ma'am? Just so you know, I know I look small, but I'm very strong, so if you need me to carry things, I can do that too!"
Nesta wanted to avoid lumbering the poor boy by carrying books around for her, not when they were so heavy. The boy was skinny-looking, and although very eager to prove himself, she didn't know if his little body could take so much manual labour. Instead, Nesta looked for a kinder task that would allow him to help her without injuring him. She didn't know Eleanor very well, and while the woman was taciturn, she knew that there was a possibility that Eleanor could get angry if her son came back exhausted from a day in the library.
"Well, actually, there's a task I've been putting off because I've been finding it too daunting," Nesta said conspiratorially. The boy nodded eagerly, waiting for her to carry on. "You see those piles of books over there?" Nesta said, pointing at the piles of books practically covering the lone table in the room. "Well, I need to figure out an order for them; the shelves I took them off were a mess. If someone could put them alphabetically, we could put them back onto the shelves much tidier. What do you think?" Nesta asked.
The boy bit his lip anxiously before eventually replying to Nesta. "Well, ma'am, I think you could do that, and I could carry on cleaning. Wouldn't that be better?" Nesta was confused; clearly, the boy could see she wouldn't accept that without questioning him. "Ma'am, I can't read, so I can't organise your books. But I can clean for you," the boy said with a smile.
Nesta blushed at that, cursing herself for being so thoughtless. Of course, someone like Arthur couldn't read. Although schools were around, they weren't open to accepting people from a lower class. Some factory owners in the north were known to build schools for the children who worked with them, but this was rare. Nesta wondered how many children on the Duke's estate couldn't read while she spent her day in a library.
"Would you like to learn?" Nesta asked impulsively. It was too late to take the offer back, though, and now it lingered between the woman and child.
"Would you really teach me?" Arthur asked cautiously.
"If you want to learn, then yes. I've never taught anyone how to read before, but if that's alright with you, then-"
Before Nesta could continue, Arthur cut her off. "Yes! Please, I would love to learn how to read. I could get so many other jobs if I learned how to work. Please, ma'am, I'll work day and night if you teach me."
Nesta smiled at him. "I'm glad to hear you're so excited to learn. All I ask for is an eager student, so you don't need to work day and night."
As they both walked towards the table, Nesta finally felt that, for once in her life, she was doing something good.
***
Her day with Arthur had been one of her best days in a long time. Nesta had spent two hours writing out upper- and lower-case versions of the alphabet and saying the phonetic sounds for them. Then she let Arthur try to copy her letters to the best of his ability while he said the sounds. While Arthur repeated the process, Nesta cleaned, staying close in case he needed her help.
Claude had been delighted to see the boy with Nesta when he had come to serve lunch. Nesta had been glad that Arthur was a growing boy because he had eaten with such gusto that it had hidden how little she had eaten. The smell of the delicious food had made Nesta feel nauseous, so she had taken two bites and then left the rest while she listened to the energetic back and forth between Arthur and Claude.
Claude had such a brilliant way with children, and his personality was infectious. She couldn't help but smile as she watched Arthur and Claude laugh. Nesta usually felt like an outsider left in the cold; being an outsider while Arthur and Claude talked was like being doused in sunlight. The warmth seeped into her bones, and she felt something inside her thaw as their joy hit her.
When Claude had left, much later than he usually would, Nesta felt like she had been given a new burst of energy. She cleaned with renewed vigour, and Arthur decided to help her, which made the time go faster. Nesta also felt like she had gotten more done today, probably because there were two of them rather than her tackling things independently. Plus, when she was on her own, she tended to get distracted by the books she found, and before she knew it, the sun would be setting, and she had read a chunk of the most bizarre book ever. She wasn't sure which of the Duke's ancestors had been so obsessed with crocodiles, but she had found five copies of the same book.
Nesta assumed that her lack of distraction today was why her body ached so much. Arthur had thrown himself into cleaning the lower shelves, so Nesta had felt like she needed to match that energy, but now she was paying the price since the boy was over ten years younger than her. Sitting at the dinner table across from her husband, struggling to lift her spoon to her mouth, certainly put her in her place. She wasn't feeling hungry. That queasy feeling from earlier hadn't dissipated as she had hoped.
Claude had cooked a feast fit for kings, but she couldn't taste anything. Everything tasted like ash, so she kept her face passive. She didn't want anyone noticing, especially not her husband, who sat opposite her, talking about one of his tenants. Nesta never understood why her husband needed to tell her the ins and outs of his tenants; she couldn't imagine he wanted her opinion. Perhaps, like all great men, he wanted to talk about all the important things he did.
Still, it was better than when he decided to be polite and ask her about her day, which was inevitable.
"Claude told me that Arthur was helping you today," the Duke said. His tone was even; there were no accusations of anything, but she couldn't tell how her husband felt about Arthur spending time with her. Right now, he was just a boy, so there was no danger of him thinking Nesta could stray, but she wondered if that would come eventually as Arthur got older.
"I had never met him before today, my Lord. He walked in and asked me for work," Nesta explained, not wanting her husband to think she spent her days talking to strangers.
The Duke just laughed, startling Nesta. "Arthur is ambitious and most likely getting underfoot wherever he had been spending his day before. I think it will do him some good. The boy is responsible; he just needs some guidance. He's a smart boy, and I'm sure he'll do well for himself in the future."
Nesta paused. The talk of Arthur's future made Nesta hesitate. Clearly, the Duke wanted the boy to succeed, but Nesta wasn't sure how he would feel about her teaching the boy how to read. While she had been helping the boy, it had occurred to her that she should've asked her husband for permission before taking something like this on, and of course, she should've asked permission from Eleanor, too. Some people could be peculiar about who their children spend their time with.
"My Lord," Nesta said nervously. She could feel herself getting warm, the sweat gathering on her brow as she took a deep breath to calm her nerves before Nesta told her husband what she had offered without his permission. "Today, while in the library, Arthur mentioned that he could not read."
"Ah, well, I suppose that is to be expected," the Duke said with a sad smile.
"Well, I offered to teach him," Nesta said quickly, looking down at her hands. She interlocked her hands to try and stop them from trembling so much. She knew she had done something wrong, and now she would have to pay whatever price her husband felt necessary. She just hoped that Arthur wouldn't suffer because of her.
"Is that something you want to do with your free time?" the Duke asked Nesta as though her opinion mattered to him.
"If you're happy to allow it, my lord," Nesta admitted. It was risky to say she wanted to do something, especially since she had already gone behind his back. He could see that she wanted to do this and take it away as a punishment.
"Of course, I'm happy for you to teach the boy. He's ambitious, and I didn't know what to do with him. It seems like you've found the perfect solution for him. I'm sorry that I didn't think of something like that sooner," the Duke contemplated.
Nesta didn't reply; it felt like a trap to say she thought of something he didn't. Even suggesting such a thing would've gotten her the beating of a lifetime from Tomas. Despite knowing this act of the Duke was too good to be true, she wouldn't look the gift horse in the mouth.
"There is no school for the lower class in this area. Rhys's mother once campaigned for it, but as far as I'm aware, she was told that unless there was evidence of some interest within the community, the government wouldn't be willing to throw that kind of money at the lower classes. They believed they could build a school, and the lower classes wouldn't send their children because it was easier for them to send them to work. I'm not sure how much truth there is in that, but it's a shame these children can't learn to read and write."
The Duke sounded thoughtful as he spoke, which Nesta had not expected to hear. Nor had she expected to listen to thoughts about supporting the lower classes. The Duke's family was an ancient one which could be traced back to the founding of Prythian. Meanwhile, the Mandray family had only recently been given their current rank. Yet, despite being so new to the money and social standing they currently had, neither Philip nor Tomas had ever looked at the lower classes with anything other than contempt or disgust.
It was strange. Nesta had not expected her current husband to be so progressive. Then again, how he spoke of the issue made her feel like he had not thought about it in much detail before she had mentioned Arthur. But now that he knew it, he took the issue very seriously.
Nesta had heard whispers that her husband treated the issues of the tenants and people under his general management in such a way, too. He was unaware of all their problems, but if he was made aware of it, he would always try to help. He had apparently once helped a tenant whose ewe was birthing. The Duke had only been passing by, but the man had called out, needing some help, and the Duke had not faltered in rolling his sleeves up. The man had recounted the tale laughing one night, saying he had done little more than take instruction from the actual farmer, but Nesta couldn't help but think that he downplayed things a little.
Nesta took a sip of her water as the silence started to linger. Where she'd usually water down her wine, she had bypassed it all together today. Nesta knew it wouldn't sit well in her already queasy stomach. She had hoped the water would help settle her stomach or, at the very least, end the pounding in her head, but it had not helped.
"Are you alright, Nesta?" the Duke asked her, frowning.
Nesta straightened her back, hoping her posture would help her look better. She didn't want to admit she wasn't feeling well. Any sign of weakness could be used against her; she had learnt that the hard way. Men didn't want to hear that their wives were not well. They didn't care, and it was disgusting to have to hear about anything like sickness. Women were meant to suffer in silence.
"You look pale, and you've eaten less- I mean, you've not eaten very much," the Duke fumbled over his words. Nesta didn't have the energy to figure out what he really wanted to say; she was too tired, and her head felt full of cotton wool. She wondered how the Duke noticed she wasn't feeling well and why he would pay so much attention to her when he had better things to do.
"No, no, I'm fine, my Lord," Nesta said, shaking her head and plastering on a fake smile. The Duke didn't seem convinced, but he didn't comment. He still eyed her plate, so Nesta knew he wouldn't stay quiet for long. "The food isn't quite sitting well with me; it's quite strong flavours and stodgy. I'll go to the kitchen to speak to Claude and get something to settle my stomach; it's nothing to worry about."
Nesta was loathed to explain herself further, but she knew the Duke enough to realise she needed to give him some sort of explanation. She didn't wait for him to reply, as she quickly got up and rushed to the kitchen before he could stop her. Perhaps there was something Claude could give her that would help- or at least something she could eat without being sick.
There was chatter in the kitchen, but Nesta was past the point of processing it. The heat hit her as she rounded the corner and was met with various smells and sounds. She couldn't take it in; so much was going on, and her brain couldn't process it all in its overwhelming glory.
Nesta had been to the kitchen only a handful of times since she had married the Duke. She knew she was not well-liked in the household, which was fine. They were very protective of their master, and everyone else kept their distance apart from Claude, who seemed like he could be friendly with a bear. That was fine; the distance meant fewer chances of anyone spying on her to report back to her husband.
"My Lady, are you alright?" a younger man asked her. She didn't even notice when he came over to her. Claude had yet to notice her, but Nesta hadn't announced herself as she walked in. Her head felt so fuzzy that she had just ended up staring off into the distance at nothing.
"I apologise; I know you all must be busy," Nesta said, trying to wade through the treacle in her brain to remember what she had wanted to say.
"It's no problem, ma'am. We're not busy; it's just Claude's chaos," the man smiled. Nesta had been introduced to him but couldn't remember his name for the life of her.
At the sound of his name, Claude whipped around and beamed brightly as he saw Nesta. "Matthew, get back over there. You're not paid to chat with Lady Nesta," he said jovially.
"Of course, Claude," Matthew replied, a grin adorning his face, and mischief sparkling in his eyes. That's you who's paid to talk to the Duchess."
Matthew ran off before Claude could say anything, but Nesta could see the humour dancing on his face. "Now that Matthew is doing his real job, how can I help you, my lady. Is there something wrong with the food?" Claude said, looking anxious.
"No, Claude, definitely not. I just am not feeling too well. Is there anything you have that I can eat that will help?" Nesta said, blushing at her admission.
"Oh, of course. I make some wonderful soups, but some tea might be quicker. What seems to be the issue, my lady? Perhaps Cassian needs to call the doctor instead," Claude said kindly, leading Nesta to a nearby stool.
Nesta shook her head. "It's fine; I just feel a bit queasy," she lied.
Claude didn't look like he believed her but, thankfully, didn't say anything. To keep him from pressing the topic, she quickly spoke up, changing the subject. "Why do you call the Duke Cassian, but you're so formal with me?"
Claude smiled at that. "That idiot doesn't know how to treat a lady. He's the stupidest Duke I've ever seen," he laughed. "I jest. I've known him for a long time, and we've always been friends first, so it was natural to call him by his name. With you, well, I don't know you as well, so I wasn't sure if you would like me to be so forward and familiar with you. I wouldn't want to insult you."
"Well, I'm asking you to call me by my name. I would like to think we're friends," Nesta said softly. It was true. Claude was the closest thing she'd had to a friend for a long time. The last friend she'd had was long gone now.
"I'm honoured, Nesta," Claude said, testing out saying her name. Here, let me make you some tea. What about having some pastry with it? Really, you should eat something if you don't feel well; it might help to settle your stomach."
"Thank you, Claude, but the tea will be more than fine. If I can manage something else, I will let you know," Nesta said kindly but firmly. She knew her stomach wouldn't be able to handle all that liquid and then food on top of that.
Claude hesitated for a moment, weighing something up, before speaking. "Nesta, if we are friends, then I just want to say something as a friend. I hope you don't take offence, and I'm sorry if you do; it's just that I need you to know something. If you don't like something about my cooking or something specific you would like to eat, it would bring me great joy if you told me. I know you've said that you like my cooking in the past, but I can't help noticing you don't eat very much." Claude looked guilty like he had said something he shouldn't have.
Nesta was frozen. She didn't know what to do or say. She knew her eating habits hadn't gone unnoticed, but she hoped people would just leave her to it. She should've known that Claude would never leave a food-related matter alone. Food was too important to him, and she knew he had perceived it as an insult because she didn't eat much of it.
She could see no way around it. She had to tell him the truth. If she didn't, he would think she was rude, and in a house where he was one of the only people Nesta enjoyed the company of, she couldn't do that. She knew it was dangerous, becoming so attached to the man, but he was so soft and full of love and joy. Nesta couldn't help but be drawn into the man's orbit. She didn't think she had seen anyone so kind and willing to help others. She didn't even know people like Claude could exist.
She took a deep breath, Claude studying her as she opened her mouth to finally voice the truth. "In the Mandray household, the wives were not to eat first. Tomas and his brothers would eat first at the table. Their mother and sister did not sit with them often; they ate in his mother's rooms. The men ate without any abandon and were not the tidiest of eaters. Once they had done and left the room, the wives could eat what was left," Nesta said quietly. She had never admitted it before. She had never had the bravery to say anything, unlike others.
Nesta looked up at Claude, only to notice how horrified he looked. Nesta had never seen horror etched so clearly onto someone else's face, but with Claude, it was hard to mistake it for anything else. "Nesta," Claude rasped out, his eyes filled with tears. "Did they starve you?"
Nesta hesitated. She had never really thought about it like that. At first, she thought it was so strange and questioned her husband about it a lot. Tomas had told her it was a long-standing tradition in their family when it came to married women, but it had always been about controlling them.
"I never thought about it, but yes, they did, I suppose. There were times when we got nothing if we angered them. And then there were rules for if one of us was pregnant," Nesta explained, although she had no idea why she was explaining it. As the words came out of her mouth, she knew it all sounded horrific.
"Were you- did you ever become?" Claude asked, clearly unsure how to proceed in that conversation.
"No, not me, but my friend. She was married to Philip, Tomas' older brother. Her name was Clare, and she was the only person who understood what it was like in that house," Nesta said, her voice breaking as she spoke about her friend. She felt terrible for using Clare's pregnancy to avoid talking about her own, but then again, it was safer that way. She had no idea how the Duke would react if he knew she had been pregnant before, even if she didn't last very long.
"What happened to her?" Claude whispered
"She died in childbirth. The baby didn't survive either," Nesta said, wiping a tear which had escaped. Claude put a cup of tea down in front of her; she hadn't even noticed that he had done anything; she had been so consumed with her thoughts.
"I can't believe how much you've been through, Nesta; how did you bear it?" Claude asked, clutching his own cup of tea.
Nesta shrugged. "I did what I had to do. It was better when Clare was around; she understood how it was. I got used to things; I got into a routine. I knew how to avoid things." She knew getting used to things wasn't okay, but that was the truth. She didn't want to say that she had wanted to die. Claude seemed concerned enough as it was.
"That must've been hard, especially after your friend was gone," Claude said quietly.
"She was the only one who understood it, but I knew I had to carry on for her," Nesta said, taking a sip of her tea to give her some time to gather her thoughts. "Claude, I didn't tell you these things because I wanted you to pity me. I just needed you to understand that I'm trying my best. It probably doesn't seem like much, but it's all I can give now."
"No, of course!" Claude exclaimed. "And I'm honoured you felt like you could tell me."
Nesta didn't want to rain on his parade and tell him it was because she felt guilty for not eating his food, but then again, she would be lying to herself if she didn't admit that she felt some comfort around him. There was something about Claude which made her feel safe. She knew he wouldn't use the information against her like the staff in the Mandray household did. It was a strange sensation for her to actually trust someone. It had been so long she had forgotten how it felt.
"Will you tell Cassian?" Claude asked.
Nesta's eyes widened in horror. "No, absolutely not!"
Claude felt guilty for alarming her, so he held his hands out in surrender. "Sorry, I was just wondering if it would help understand the things you've been through," he said, trying to soothe her.
"He can't know Claude. He didn't want to marry me; he just agreed for my sister's sake. I'm grateful to him, but I know he's burdened by my strange behaviour. I'll get better, though; I'll become the wife he wants if he just gives me some time. I just need to learn more about his likes and dislikes. Once I figure him out, I'll be the wife he wants, and then he won't have any problems," Nesta said without even thinking. Her brain felt full of cotton wool; she had no idea what she was saying. She felt like she was speaking too fast and too slow simultaneously.
"Nesta, you know that's not what Cassian wants, right? I agree; I think you do need to get to know him, though, because when you do, I know you'll realise what he wants." Claude said.
Nesta didn't know how to react. Her brain was slowing down, so she raised her mug to take another sip of the tea. She didn't realise how much her hands shook until she spilt her tea down her front. Thankfully, the tea wasn't warm enough to scald her, but the shock of feeling the liquid on her startled her enough to make her drop her mug.
She shot to her feet as Claude got up and grabbed a cloth. The room was spinning, and Nesta eventually concluded that she had not managed to fight the horrific feeling she'd been having all day. Her stomach churned worse than ever.
Of course, her husband walked in on this chaos. "I heard some noise. What's going on?" the Duke asked, looking concerned.
Claude said something, but Nesta didn't register it at all. The Duke clearly understood whatever it was that Claude had said, and took Nesta's hand to guide her away from the broken mug.
She wouldn't usually be so glad he was so close to her, but she felt so unsteady that she gripped his hand like it was her lifeline. His hands felt so cool compared to her burning skin, and she fought the temptation to put his hand on her brow. Thankfully, her senses hadn't entirely left her, and she refrained.
"Nesta, you look pale and unsteady. Please, tell me what's wrong?" the Duke said in a frightfully close tone to begging her.
"I'm not sure, I just feel-" Before she could downplay how ill she felt, she felt the bile rise in her throat as her stomach churned. To her horror, Nesta turned to throw up the contents of her stomach on her husband's shoes.
It was over as quickly and suddenly as it had started, and Nesta felt the tiny bit of energy she'd managed to conserve throughout the day had left her body and lay at her husband's feet.
"Nesta? Fuck, are you okay?" the Duke sounded discomposed now, but his voice was starting to sound far away. She felt a hand touch her forehead, and some unsavoury curse words left the Duke's mouth. "Nesta, you're on fire; why didn't you say?"
Nesta tried to say something, but her head was swimming, and even thinking of words took energy she didn't have. She just wanted to sleep, and she could feel it calling her like a siren calls a sailor. Everything was too much for her, so Nesta simply embraced the darkness. She had just enough time to register strong arms grabbing her as she fell into the darkness lingering in her mind.
POMEFIORE + HEARTSLABYL + IGNIHYDE / SCARABIA + OCTAVINELLE + SAVANACLAW / RSA + DIASOMNIA /
Tumblr media
Azul was invited to a private event held by the Leech family, it was at some famous hall of some sort. You didn't pay attention to detail, as Azul woke you up quite early to inform of you of the news, you were way to tired to comprehend his words... But of course the two of you were going.. Azul hadn't seen his friends in quite the while.. Monstro lounge had expanded quite the bit, the place was global.. and Azul had invested and been planning the launch of other brands, he's planning on getting into the fashion industry.. Which has kept him quite busy.. but still he made time for you, something you were more than grateful for..
The two of you left pretty early, and if you were being 100% honest, you were beyond tired and really didn't feel like going.. somewhere along the long drive, you fell asleep.. Azul let you catch a breather, he was in a bit of a rush.. Not to mention the two of you had an image to maintain as well, by the time the two of you arrived, you were vast asleep, and if Azul was being completely honest, he didn't want to wake you.. you looked so peaceful... but nonetheless he had to wake you up somewhere along the lines. "Darling.. it's time to wake up..." Azul said, gently tapping your shoulders, catching your attention..
Azul gripped onto your hand hard, hoping to comfort you incase you found the crowded place quite uneasy and uncomfortable.. a habit he picked up, after he saw you feel uneasy at a previous event when you two first got together.. it was a sweet yet comforting gesture he refused to let go. While you were in your thoughts, Floyd had come along to greet you... dragging your partner away in the process, you assumed he'd drag him to where Jade was.. You'd usually follow them, just to make sure nothing bad would happen.. But you decided to let the friends catch up, after all they hadn't seen each other in awhile.. You found yourself getting lost in the crowd.. before you of course found your friends, they sat at a table keeping one seat open for you.. how sweet of them!
You and your friends spend the night catching up and talking about your year plans, it was a comforting to know they were all fairing well, Azul checked up on you around this time, and he was rather pleased to see the two of you were all enjoying the event peacefully.. He hoped you would remaining as smiling as you were right now, throughout the rest of the year... Azul choose to stay over at the Leech's place until tomorrow morning, as you all had a lot more catching up to do..
Tumblr media
You knew of Jade's plans with his brother to host a party for the new year early on, rather then a party.. it was just a business meeting in the form of a party.. The eel would never truly let you know what kind of business their father ran, and you decided to pay it no mind.. But they did say their father usually hosted a new years party, and they planned to do the same this time around. Inviting all their business partners, friends, and clients/investors.
At this point you've gotten fairly used to the large crowds, it did feel slightly suffocating first time around, but overtime you've crown used to the environment, even finding your own closed group of friends along the crowds of people.. You were the first to settle down, as Floyd's fiancé quickly found their place beside you.. Truly, you were a bit grateful Floyd was settling down.. though it was with you close friend.. At least they'd now become your sibling in-law.. And they do tackle Floyd's mood swings better then others, the two of you started talking about your plans for the year.. You even planned a camping trip, for when summer would hit. That's when you two saw a distinct figure in the crowd.. And it was Azul's partner! You dragged them to settle down beside you two.. and began talking. You slightly wondered why Azul had yet to propose.. the two of then had been with each other longer than you and Jade, and yet you two were married already... You didn't dwell on the thought for too long, quickly focusing on your friend and the silly plans and resolutions you had for the year..
Jade an you were in charge of closing off the party, guiding the manner servants to certain areas that should be prioritized over others.. Only after closing up and sending away all you guests, were the two of you able to catch a break.. Freshening up, and settling down for a game of cards with the rest of your friends.
Tumblr media
Could you imagine being late to your very own party? Not really.. but Floyd made that thought a reality, when he arrived fairly late to his very own new years party, sure there weren't many guests.. but still! It would be fine if you two were guests.. but he was the host for shits sake! Floyd couldn't really care, as he hugged you tightly, and you had to remind him that this wasn't something funny! Shoving his hands away, and giving him a glare, which he playfully laughed off.. 'This bra—' before you could finish the thought, your lover had disappeared, you took a deep breath.. what the hell... you let out a sigh.. before making your way to the table, where Jade's spouse remained seated, hoping to catch a breather... Though you loved the chaotic eel, you can't help but feel troubled by his rash actions every now and then..
"Are you ok?" you looked up, seeing Azul's partner walk up to the area, sitting down beside you. You simply nodded, this was quite normal.. and you usually wouldn't react this badly, but you woke up on the wrong side of the bed today... "Cheer up! I heard xxxx will be preforming here tonight" 'Huh?' you hadn't heard of that.. that was your favorite singer!... You stared at them dumbfounded..
Tumblr media
Kalim had hosted a luxurious.. and excessive banquet for new years.. Mainly for the abundance of business partners, shareholders, and investors of the Al-Asim family.. But the guests couldn't find you two anywhere! The host had escaped his very own party.. Kalim and you had escaped... surely in the large crowd no one would suspect that the two of you weren't even there.. Kalim had planned to surprise you else where..
His grip on your hand was firm softly dragging you out from the crowds, and into the large gardens of the Al-asim estate.. or castle.. that would be a better fit name to describe the area Kalim had grew up in. "Kalim where are you taking me—" Kalim shushed you, as he dragged you out to the beautiful benching area, located in the middle of the garden.. the moment you stepped inside there the fairy lights went off.. And Kalim bent down on one knee, you were still processing everything... "Y/n L/n, will you marry me?" now that.. that caught your attention, as you stared down at Kalim wide-eyed, as he gave you the most prettiest of smiles, patiently awaiting your answer, whether it be negative or positive.
Tumblr media
Jamil typically didn't catch a break.. Yet he did this time around.. the two of you were spending New years together.. alone! It was rather difficult for Jamil to catch a break.. yet he did, this time around.. The two of you were cuddling in your shared apartment, as he turned on Twistflex, the two of you had planned to just recharge over the new years, as you had planned to attend the NRC reunion afterwards, later this week.
You munched on the snacks that Jamil had baked previously, enjoying the presence of one another, Jamil would whisper words of praises and love, something he didn't usually do, he enjoyed every last second he had with you today.. The two of you stared out the window every now and then, witnessing fireworks that launched from town square.. At the end of the day, the two of you fell asleep in each others embrace, comfortable and peaceful.. The dim silence filled the room, followed by light snoring..
Tumblr media
Leona's family had forced the poor tired Lion to attend his family banquet.. with his partner.. And he had to comply, sadly.. He wanted to avoid it, or maybe hide from it.. and he most definitely didn't want them to meet you.. He was slightly afraid of what you'd learn about him, sure many admired the second prince.. but others had quite the stern opinion of him.. Upon entering the banquet hall, you were taken aback by the utter beauty of everything.. while Leona was irked off by the crowd and the people within them... He'd have much preferred a day back at home, just a day spending it with you.. like always.. well this time he'll make more of an effort to do everything you want.. yeah.. maybe that should be his resolution for the new year..
Leona stayed closely to you, throughout the entire party.. remaining close, but maintaining a safe distance. He wanted to let you enjoy the party.. and he couldn't help but smile when he saw you getting along with the people who approached you, fitting in.. It filled him with pride, knowing you were able to tackle the situation alone, and handle disrespectful people by yourself.. He did have faith in you.. he just didn't trust those who approached you.. don't get the wrong Idea.. Leona knows very well that you are more than capable of maintaining everything and knowing wrong from right.. but it doesn't hurt to be a bit warry every now and again...
That night Leona's family had convinced you two to stay the night.. He had a hunch it was so they could learn a bit more about you, Leona's lover that they were all to aware, he was hiding.
Tumblr media
The new years went by peacefully with you and Ruggie, the day started off in the right foot.. The two of you woke up beside one another, and planned you day.. You didn't have any plans of visiting friends or family around this time, you already did so during Christmas.. plus with the upcoming NRC reunion the two of your schedule's were full right after new years..
The two of you baked together, and cooked together.. Experimenting with recipes that you both wanted to try.. Debating about the measurements and seasoning.. or just the right amount of sugar you should add.. you both even played board games together, taking time completing this 1000 piece puzzle set, that made both of you lose your cool ever so slightly when you couldn't set the last few pieces together.. The two of you ended of the night with fireworks... And movies.. cuddling, and whatnot.. until eventually you both had fallen asleep..
Tumblr media
Jack and you, were staying over at his family's place.. visiting his siblings for new years! Everyone got together and counted down the seconds till new year, it felt comfortable and sweet being accepted into his family.. who welcomed you in open arms. His siblings questioning when the two of you will get married, which resulted in both of you getting flustered, trying to respond in a responsible manner. Jack took the lead in such cases, which you were more than grateful for.. Though you wondered what the man whispered in his siblings years..
The clock struck 12, and the fireworks finally went out.. And Jack went down on one knee.. you were slightly confused.. but it didn't take that long for you to figure out what was going on.. especially when your lover was down on one knee, and even though the sound of fireworks and children cheering blocked out the words coming out, you could practically hear the un-audible "Will you marry me?" fall from his lips.
Floyd: You should join us to Octavinelle for real~. You have the moves heh heh heh!
MC: ...
MC: Floyd is... a weird person.
Floyd: Ne, Angelfish? It will be more fun in Octavinelle. And Azul will give you a slack unlike Goldfish.
MC: My big brother said that I should stay with the person who helped me. Betrayal is a big no-no.
Floyd: Aw come on~! How am I going to have a playmate if you will decline me too? *sad, eel face (if that even exist)*
MC: ...
MC: There's Jade.
Floyd: *starts whining like a toddler* But I want Angelfish! Angelfish!
MC: ...
Vil: Floyd, I'm sure you're not a participant of this contest. Why are you here?
Floyd: Hmhm~ I'm here to support Angelfish.
Jade: And we had already asked Riddle's permission to join them in the backstage.
Vil: I'm surprised he agreed.
MC: He didn't. He just doesn't like Floyd bothering him.
Vil: Figures. Anyway, do your best out there, MC. Remember the things I've taught you.
MC: What things? You only told me to be a good, shiny potato.
Vil: *chuckles* Just make Riddle proud.
MC: *nods*
Ace: Riddle, why did you give our spot to Floyd and Jade?
Cater: I know, right? I was so excited to post their behind-the-scenes on magicam.
Trey: We can still join them later. Right, Riddle?
Riddle: Yes.
Deuce: By the way, the Pomefiore housewarden has invited us to go to their dorm later after this event.
Riddle: Why?
Deuce: He said that he was positive MC will win this.
Riddle: ...
Riddle: *smiles proudly* Vil knows what he's saying.
Rook: Merveilleux! Perfect score!
Vil: Rook, the contest has ended. You don't have to act like you were one of the judges.
Epel: Can anyone help me to remove their makeup? *frowns when no one noticed him*
MC: Thanks, Epel.
Epel: *smiles* Your performance was amazing. I almost thought you were a celebrity. Are you sure that was your first time?
MC: *nods*
Epel: Ah, maybe you're just talented.
Azul: There you are, MC. Congratulations. *smiles at them as he approaches*
Jade and Floyd: *tagging along*
Floyd: Angelfish looked like a real angel on stage.
Jade: I would've to agree with Floyd. You even made Riddle cry.
MC: Riddle cried?
Azul: Of happiness. *chuckles* You shouldn't worry about him.
*The Heartslabyul crew has arrived*
Ace: MC!
MC: *runs towards them* Ace!
Deuce: Congratulations!
Cater: Hey, hey! Let's all take a picture!
MC: *noticed that Riddle isn't with them*
MC: Where's Riddle?
Ace: Riddle? Welp, Trey is helping him to get rid of his puffy eyes.
Deuce: Housewarden Rosehearts was so moved by your performance that he cried a lot.
Cater: Didn't know Riddle can be dramatic.
Riddle: Who you are calling dramatic, Cater?
Cater: N-No one! Peace!
MC: Riddle! *goes to him*
Trey: Hey, congratulations. *chuckles* *then ruffles their hair*
Riddle: *his eyes were still puffy* You've put quite a performance. Though it shocked me with what you've answered in the Q&A portion.
Trey: Ah, you mean, "Who's the best person you've met so far" and they didn't hesitate to say that it was you?
Riddle: *blushes a little* It caught me off guard.
Ace: I was expecting it to be my name to be honest.
Deuce: Not a chance.
Ace: And so are you!
Cater: Calm down, people. We're here to par-tayy~!
Riddle: MC, you should enjoy yourself. You can mingle with the others and for once, I will allow you to go home late.
MC: *hugs him* Thanks, Riddle!
Cater: Aww~! I wish Riddle can be sweet with us too!
Riddle: *frowns at him*
Cater: Or not. Haha!
Ortho: Brother? I thought you were going to Pomefiore?
Idia: I-I've changed my mind.
Ortho: *frowns* But how are you going to give that to MC?
Idia: S-Some other time... When they're not with the party people.
Saw your 'Mario has PTSD too' post and I love it. The idea of him trying to pretend that everything is fine for Luigi is just so... augh. I love this trope of a character botteling up their feelings for the sake of others until they can't anymore. May I add a little something? Mario also had a near death experience from getting exploded from the rainbow road and then being eaten by an eel. So I guess he would have PTSD from this too
(Referring to this post!)
Thanks!! It really gets to me too. I just think Mario is very much wrapped up in being The Strong One, The One Who Protects And Makes Things All Right and Can Be Leaned On, and he WANTS to be that post-movie more than anything because goodness knows Luigi needs it (not even just from a mental perspective, but physical too, considering the poor thing hardly slept or got any food/water for what seemed like multiple days!) but there's also his own exhaustion and the dawning realization of how close things were, how his brother could have very easily died if one little thing happened differently, and the guilt, so much GUILT for essentially being the reason all this happened - it's a lot!! And then the guilt would compound once he starts to slip and knows that Luigi can probably tell, and he doesn't want to make him MORE worried when his little brother's already going through his own struggles, so that just makes him try HARDER to seem Totally Normal and Fine and In Control, and it's not a good cycle. :( (But it doesn't take too long before the inevitable breakdown and the brothers getting to cry it out together. Sometimes you just need to do some messy crying and hugging to feel better!!!!)
And yeah, I think that makes sense! Mario didn't have a cakewalk of a time either, that's for sure, even if there were some nice/peaceful moments in his journey. I saw in one fic someone theorize that maybe loud sounds would instantly make him shift into danger mode and being really on edge because of the blue shell for a little while, and I think that makes sense. And man, the eel stuff really does get more disturbing the more you think about it!! DK and Mario sniping at each other is funny, but I still really wish that scene had been given a little more room to breathe and resonate as a stronger, sadder Darkest Moment in the movie. Especially the line "at least your brother's not gonna die because of you!" which is heavy stuff, man! Mario's clearly angry and upset and feels like the situation is all his fault and he's never going to see Luigi again (heck, he'll never see the rest of his family or his home again either) and he tried so hard but he's finally reached a truly hopeless state where he just wants to wallow in how he's let everyone down and be left alone, which is rare for him. It's a brief moment, but a rough one for sure.
(And maybe once it's all over, he closes his eyes and sometimes still sees himself there, wet and cold and broken down, and there's a moment of blind panic where he's convinced he's imagined everything that happened past that point and he's about to be digested and die down here at the bottom of the ocean, with the horrible certainty that Luigi's dead too, that his brother died alone and scared all because of his stupidity, and he can't breathe, he can't BREATHE - and then he wakes up/comes back to the moment and it's all okay, he knows rationally that it's okay now but he still can't fully calm down because what if NEXT TIME.....)
Bridgerton Au- The Ashengrotto Family
Tumblr media
The Secret Keepers of the Upperclass
The Ashengrotto family has been rumored to be descended from the great sea witch.
Now they serve as information brokers and help keep the peace of the upper class even working with the worst of the worst to maintain the status quo.
Azul’s mother worked hard in bringing the “family business ” to land and found success bymarrying a wealthy lawyer from the surface.
Since then she’s stepped aside in most matters and let Azul become the head of the family. Who is feared for his wish granting contracts, and his eel bodyguards.
He is also rumored to have a “demon maid” that will get rid of any problem you have for a Hefty sum or a very restrictive contract. What’s unique is that she will take requests regardless of your social status. However that’s just a rumor… or is it?
Azul has a sister, Drusilla Ashengrotto. Who’s has seldom been seen by anyone. She’s coming of age and just in time!
With her secret heiress now known to the public and the all the fortune hunters out there and the up coming social season Lilith Crewel called in a favor.
It was rare sunny day when the carriage arrived at the Crewel Estate. A gathering was quickly arranged and both parties met in the drawing room. Isabella tried not to fidget as Lilith took her hands “ trust me pup.”
The three moved gracefully, “Lady Lilith, my brother expresses his regret in not attending this meeting in person but some business came up in the coral seas that he had to oversee.”
The girl looked no older than herself, but she moved and spoke with all the elegance and grace as her adoptive grandmother. “You must be Isabella. I’m Drusilla Ashengrotto, These two are my families bodyguards. This one on left is Jade leech.”
“Charmed.” Jade placed a chaste kiss on her hand, “the one on lady Drusilla’s right is my twin brother Floyd.”
Instead of a kiss on the hand or a polite bow Floyd opted to pull Isabella in a bone crushing hug, “what a cute lil shrimpy!”
Jade removed him from Isabella with ease “please don’t be offended that’s how Floyd expresses his affections.”
“I know they can be a bit much. But I promise they have nothing but the best of intentions.”
Floyd’s laugh made the hair on Isabella’s neck stand up. Drusilla saw the fear in Isabella’s eyes and took her hands, “ please don’t be scared. I know he’s… a bit much. But he’s means well. We all do. And you’ll find his mannerism charming soon enough.”
“Uh why?”
“I’m sure you know or know of the Ashengrotto family. And I’m sure you’ve heard of the roumors, I’ll spare you of that ridiculous chatter. But to put it simply we’re are both young women from prominent families, the social season is almost here. And it’s better to have a friend.”
Drews smile was warm. “I’m here to be your friend and to potentially find a match as well. Starting today I’ll be moving in and I do hope we’ll be friends. As a start please call me Drew. I’ve only really been called Drusilla in formal situations but I’m fine with either-”
Drew was caught off guard by The little heiress pulling her into a hug “I’m so excited! I can’t wait to show you the dogs. You’ll love Horace and Jasper! Oh no wait I need to show you the rose garden! Oh um, sorry I got excited, um forgive me, Grandmother maybe I show the library, please?’
Lilith chuckled, “your both dismissed. Dearest please make your friend feel at home.’
Once the girls were out of sight Lilith held her cigar out to be lit which Jade generously did with his fire magic “that demon maid lives up to rumors, especially the price. I don’t mind of course. She’s a worthy investment. I know she’ll do a good job.”
Jade hummed “Indeed. What a time Azul’s darling sister coming of age just as your heir is. What a hell of family we all are.”
Lilith knew she’d be gettin an earful from Marcus and her son but when it comes to Isabella she’d do anything to protect that girl. Even chasing in favors with some questionable businessmen…
His song
So like... this is a long one. Hope you like it!
Warning(s): possessive yandere Jade, implied death, implied eating of human flesh, mind control(?), isolation
Tumblr media
No fish have been biting today. What a tragedy. You had hoped you'd get at least a nibble on your bait, but... you had no such luck.
Then, you felt a tug on the line.
You excitedly began to reel in your catch, feeling a strong amount of resistance. You continued using all your strength to reel in the fish, despite the resistance, and then-!
It was pulled out of water, and it landed on the soft sand of the beach. Except, it wasn't a fish, not entirely. The top half of it's body seemed to be human, though the skin was shades of cyan, there were fins on it's back and arms... you'd reeled in a merman!
"Oh! Um! I-I'm sorry about that!" You said, walking towards him. You placed a hand on his face to try and remove the hook from his cheek, but he dove back into the sea before you could, taking your fishing rod with you.
"Aw... that was my favourite rod, too..." You sighed.
It's a peaceful morning, under the sea. An eel and an octopus sit alone, having a conversation. All is peaceful... until another eel enters the scene.
"Jade! Azul! I almost died!"
"That's nice, Floyd." Azul continues looking over over his latest contract.
"No, really! I was almost eaten! Sick, right?!"
"What was it? A shark? Whale? Lionfish?" Jade tilts his head.
"It was one o' those huuuuuuumans!"
After that is said, Jade and Azul freeze.
"Floyd, did you just say it was a human?" Jade asks his brother.
"Yeah. Look, I even have their hook in my mouth still!"
"Ugh. Come here, I'll get it out." Azul offers.
"Ooooooookkkk... just be gentle! I might just decide to chomp down on one of those tasty looking tentacles of yours if not!"
"You do realize I'm venomous, right?" Azul asks. "I could just as easily bite and paralyze you."
"Whatever. It did really hurt though... ohhhhhhhh, if only I had a sibling who could mind control humans with his singing... alas, no such sibling exists..."
"I was already planning on doing so." Jade smiles. "Azul, Floyd, we'll be having human for dinner."
"Yaaaay!!"
"Must the two of you solve everything with violence...?"
You walked along the shoreline as the moon reflected on the water.
You're not sure why you were doing it. Maybe you wanted to apologize to that merman you caught earlier, or maybe you wanted to get your fishing rod back, or maybe...
...someone is singing.
Someone is singing a song... a beautiful song you've never heard before... you were almost entranced by it.
Whoever was singing had a powerful voice. It was as if he were purposefully singing loud enough for you to hear, but quiet enough for nobody else to.
You needed to find this person.
You continued walking along the shore for what felt like forever, until eventually... you saw someone- or something- sitting on a rock. His top half looked human, but his skin was shades of cyan... he had fins on his back, arms, and where his ears should be...
Wait a second... that's the merman you accidentally reeled in earlier!
"Hey! You!" You yelled to him. He turned around, looking surprised to see you. "I-I'm sorry for what happened this morning! I didn't mean to scare you, I was just trying to get the hook out of your mouth."
"Hm? What are you talking about?" He asked. "Ah... you must be thinking of my twin brother. I suppose that would be confusing for you."
"Um... were you the one singing?" You asked.
"Why yes, I was."
"It sounded really nice!" You told him. "What's your name?"
"My, my... carefree, aren't you?" He asked, amused. "I suppose I may indulge you. My name is Jade Leech, and you are...?"
"(Y/N)!"
"What a lovely name." Jade said, smiling. "(Y/N)... could you come closer? I'd like to see your face."
You did as he asked. You stepped into the water, towards the rock Jade was sat upon. He grabbed your face with his wet hands, observing every little detail of your face. In turn, that allowed you to better see his face as well. His eyes were an olive colour on the right, and a vibrant yellow on the left. His hair was turquoise, with a long strip of darker hair on the same side as his yellow eye. He had markings beneath his eyes, and on his shoulders... he was beautiful.
"You look quite lovely, (Y/N)." Jade told you. "...for someone with legs, that is." He looked away from you.
"Thanks, Jade...!" You said. "It's getting really late, though... I should get going. Could we meet again tomorrow night? I'd like to get to know you!"
"Oh my-! Um, yes, of course, (Y/N)."
"Thanks! See you tomorrow!"
As Jade watched you run off, he couldn't stop thinking about the conversation he had with you.
"Why... why didn't I drown them...?" He asked himself.
When Jade returned, Floyd was quite disappointed he didn't get to eat a human.
Over the next nights, you and Jade would continue meeting each other. He would bring you many gifts; seashells, sunken treasures, and even the fishing rod you lost!
Jade seemed to like you. He really seemed to like you. You, on the other hand... you just saw him as a weird friend. So, one night, you told Jade that you were dating someone. And, the next night...
"Ah, (Y/N), apologies for being late! You must understand, I was taking care of some very important business."
Jade's face was covered in blood... and you could see bits of flesh stuck in his teeth.
"Wha... w-what did you do...?" You asked, terrified.
"Oh, how rude of me, to not clean myself before our meeting." He said, creepily smiling, showing off all of his bloodstained teeth. "Well, you see, you told me you were seeing someone other than me, and... mhm, I simply couldn't have that!"
"Y-you're a monster!" You yelled.
"Indeed I am, (Y/N)~"
You stumbled backwards in fear, and then... you ran. Jade wasn't too worried about that, though.
He began singing once more...
And in that very instant, everything stopped.
The only thing you could hear was his song... and the only thing you wanted to do was to return to him.
And that was exactly what you did. You walked back to him, you walked into the sea, into Jade's arms. He trapped you in a tight hug.
"Humans are such simple creatures." He told you as he stroked the back of your head. "All I need is to sing to your kind and they throw themselves into the water. It's impressive how easy it is to manipulate their minds, wouldn't you agree?"
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" You tried pushing him away, but he kept a tight grip on you.
"(Y/N). Why are you trying to leave?" Jade asked. He dug his claws into your back, causing you to wince in pain. "It's a kill or be killed world, where I come from. I could never knowingly take you into my world... so we must make a compromise."
With a tight grip on you, he swam away from the shore. You were held under the water while he swam, the freezing cold water.
Before you knew it, you were above the surface again. You were in a cave on an island far away from your home. You were shivering, and coughing up the water that you swallowed.
"Now, (Y/N), please stay here. For your safety." Jade said. "I'll return here tomorrow morning. I'm planning on introducing you to my family."
"N-no-! Please, d-don't leave m-me here...!" You cried.
"Ah..." He reached his hand out of the water, placing it on your cheek. "You're quite cute when you're scared, (Y/N)."
"I d-don't want to b-be alone here..." You begged, shaking both from fear and the cold. Yes, you were scared of Jade... he was a monster that killed and presumbly ate your partner... but you knew him. He was the only thing you knew here.
"...fine." Jade smirked. "I suppose I could stay with you the night." He crawled out of the water, and wrapped his arms around you once again. "I'll keep you warm. And I'll keep you safe, (Y/N). I love you so much... isn't it wonderful, this life we'll live together?"
Even if you wanted to escape, you can't. Your home is too far away, you can't swim that far...
You can't survive in his world. So, soon enough, you will rely on Jade entirely.
"Would you like me to sing you to sleep, (Y/N)?"
He will keep you safe no matter what. You're his perfect little human, the love of his life...
You're his, now and forever.
"Good night, (Y/N)."
As you srifted off to sleep, the only thing you heard was his song.
Aiden’s always been an early riser, sometimes he hates it but other times he doesn’t mind so much. It benefits him when he has an early class and he gets to walks to the campus and sit for two hours, then heads back home to relax or so some school work. Surprisingly, he’s not the oldest in his program and he thinks that’s because there are people out there that like to continue learning or brush up on their knowledge and strengths. He’s in the same boat there, already went to school for all of this, had a job in San Francisco but something about it didn’t feel fulfilling enough. Plus he felt restless.
Here? It feels eels peaceful.
He opens the door to his and August’s place, closing it quietly if August’s still sleeping and sets some food on the table and a coffee for his brother. Aiden takes his food and his backpack, moving out to sit on their balcony, sinking down into a chair and looks out at the water, taking his shoes off and puts his feet up as he grabs his textbook from his bag to finish this reading.
Still quiet, peaceful. There’s people out on the water in boats or sprinkled along the beach. It’s not completely tourist season yet but it’s getting there. So Aiden will take the calmness of it all.
thinking about a concept in which floyd is a human who works at a fish shop.
he has an affinity for music; it’s real, raw talent, and though he’s gotten lots of praise and won awards at talent shows when he was younger no one’s ever told him he should pursue it. so instead he works at his father’s fish shop, becoming acquainted with the scents of gore, chum, and the salty sea air. his brother jade’s super smart; they all think he’ll run a business in the future. something stuffy and corporate; floyd doesn't really care. because of his intelligence and academic prowess, jade’s earned a full scholarship to some fancy school off the island, way in the heart of the big city, and he’d be a fool not to take this opportunity.
jade almost turned it down; he likes the island and its population of older folk. things are calm and quiet here, flowing smoothly, everything in order. a city is nothing like that. most of all, his family are here. in the city he’ll be all alone, but mama and pops want him to go; it’s a big deal. they have a send-off party. jade rarely sheds tears, so this is one of the few times his sharp, smart eyes are watery. floyd’s happy for him, of course, but after the lanterns have been extinguished and the citronella candles have burned out he feels alone. the lively energy has fizzled away and with it his spirits. everyone’s gone to sleep because tomorrow they’ll see jade off at the port. he can hardly sleep when his heart is so heavy, bogged down with unpleasant emotions.
he doesn’t want to see jade off the next day, too stubborn and sad and jealous, but he does anyway because he knows it’d be wrong to leave his twin hanging when he’s about to embark on a trip to some far-off city. his mood is at its lowest as the day wears on. he doesn’t bother opening the shop. his pops will wring him out for neglecting the very thing that was passed down to him the moment he was old enough to handle the business, and his mama will fawn all over him, cooing at her husband to ease up on her baby boy. floyd loves the coddling. he loves his family, could never hate them no matter how hard his old man is on him. it’s a routine he’s familiar with. his parents balance one another, a perfect pair. he adores them.
it’s weird working at the shop without jade. usually floyd opens bright and early while jade turns his alarm off at every ten minute interval, clinging to his bedsheets until he can no longer avoid the glaring sunshine and the call of work. it’s too quiet and peaceful. floyd’s still in a mean mood, so by lunch his mama’s come down to bring him a meal and send him off. she’ll take care of the shop. floyd doesn’t complain.
he walks down to the beach, kicking up sand as he goes, drumming a tune along the metal tin packed full of a delicious homemade meal. it’s the one he took with him to elementary—the one with the moray eels printed on the front, and the graphic is peeling from years of use, dented and worn to fading. he likes the metallic sound it makes as he composes various beats at random, hitting it sharply, timing each knock, and then trying to hum along to the metallic melody. he and jade would visit the shoreline all the time as kids, spending hours in the water until they were tanned or burnt. lobsters, the both of you, their pops would tease when they came home, redder than the reddest lobster. and then there was the day floyd almost drowned. fun times. he thinks about it as he walks sidelong the sea, listening to the whooshing of the waves as they curl in the distance, the shrieking seabirds, the buzzing cicadas. summer’s awfully lonely this time around.
but then he hears it. the wet plap of something. he thinks it might’ve been a fish. maybe a bird overhead let it fall from its beak and it’s splattered upon the rocks below. but then he hears it again, and it’s accompanied with a sound that can only be described as gratingly ear-bleeding—like nails on a chalkboard. his humming stops and so, too, does the noise. he waits a minute, taps a rhythm on his lunchbox, and the noise starts up again. he repeats this twice before it occurs to him that something’s trying to duet with him.
he follows the noise even though it’s the most brutal, agonizing pain in his ears, and stumbles upon a shallow inlet that leads into a small cove. draped on a rock, scales shimmering in the sun, is a creature he’s only ever read about in storybooks. it’s a mermaid.
you open your mouth to sing, and that ear-piercing noise has him cringing.
not a mermaid. more like…a siren. a siren who can’t sing. what are the odds?
“yikes,” he says it in one breath, like it’s been punched out of him. “your singing sucks!”
maybe you understood him because your scowl is fierce and angry. he giggles and peers at your gills, curiosity overpowering self-preservation.
“hey, it’s the truth.” he dodges the water you send his way, his lips widening into a toothy grin as he watches your tail fin smack the sand impatiently. “anyone ever told ya that? or did you keep singin’ thinkin’ it was pretty, little tone-deaf fishy?”
this time the noise you make is akin to displeasure. floyd chuckles.
“so singing’s not your forte. no biggie.” he shakes his lunchbox and your eyes are immediately drawn to it. “but maybe playin’ an instrument is.”
and that marks the day floyd met a siren who can’t sing. suddenly, summer doesn’t feel so isolating anymore.
A quick rough draft segment for my aforementioned Lucifer-centric queer religious trauma book while I wait for a plane delay:
In the Beginning, there was starlight.
Heaven was a utopian realm of light, home to brilliant craftsmen and weavers of the fabric of the universe.  No one angel found themselves above any other, sharing their creations graciously for all to admire.
Lucifer the Lightbringer was one of these weavers, named for his incredible affinity for the creation of stars.  As the other angels shifted their focus to the creation of a new realm to reflect their own, dreaming to create living beauty, Lucifer frolicked among galaxies and nebulae.
Over time, praise for his creations fell to the wayside in favor of this new creation of his brothers and sisters.  Lucifer began to grow worried, wondering if perhaps he had lost the creative spark he had been known for.
The Lightbringer Created in earnest, forming incredible structures of gas and stars, passionate explosions of supernovae, dense wells in the universal fabric that drew in every celestial body that drifted into its pull.  Yet in doing so, he found himself looked down upon by Heaven, who prioritized the beauty in Order, shunning the beauty only Lucifer could see within the ever-changing Chaos.
Perhaps his sights had been set too far from the unremarkable little star the weavers had set their precious blue planet within range of.  Lucifer decided to try his hand at the small-scale Creation his siblings had taken to fawning over.  And for a time, it seemed to work!  His precious little Creation, a tiny planet just barely smaller than their Earth, but bright enough to be seen by their humans even in the early morning gleam of their gifted star.  A peace offering among the barren planets that were his siblings' failed attempts at balancing life with a burning star.
His delightful little Creation, praised at last by his family as a gift to Adam and Eve, earned Lucifer the title of the Morning Star.  This attention lasted only shortly, however, before it was drawn back to Heaven's favored Creations.
Disheartened, Lucifer lost confidence in his abilities.  He tried to create things for his family's beloved Garden, but living Creation was not a craft he was well suited to.  The things he saw as beautiful - the creatures he placed within the earth with a thousand legs, the squirmy creatures he placed in the waters with none, beasts with bone protruding from their skulls and eyes cut into slits - the others saw as hideous and unsettling.
All the same, Adam and Eve named them; "spider" and "slug" and "eel" and "ram", every desperate attempt he made for approval.  Slit-eyed creatures, horned creatures, every beast that crawled with its belly to the ground.  Though looked down upon by Heaven, Lucifer's creatures were cared for by the humans just as they cared for lion or lamb.
At times, Lucifer would take on human form, as his brothers and sisters did, and walk upon the Earth to treasure his belittled Creations.  They crawled upon his arms, slithered against his legs, brushed against his wings.  On lonesome nights when his only companions were thoughts, Lucifer lay in the grass with the crawling beasts of the soil, whispering to them about the stars.
In the Beginning, there was starlight.  Now, there was nothing.
Lucifer gazed wistfully skyward.  A vast, dark void extended into nothing, a cold mockery of the universe he'd once delighted in Creation of.  Where once he'd known the birth of every galaxy, every star, every planet and asteroid and speck of cosmic dust he'd brought into beautiful existence, now there was a hollow loss in his memories.
He wished he could remember what they'd looked like.
Okay, Author– Hear me out..
A scenario where the Tweels ( poly please ) are kidnapped ( I don't know how they even did it ) by someone and THEN ✨WE✨ become their royal charming and save them?
Not after tormenting the one who kidnapped them, ofc! ^^
╰┈➤"Days at Night Raven College are never peaceful, but the prefect never expected having to rescue the Leech Twins from their questionable antics.”
╰►Gender neutral reader, scenario/drabble.
╰► Character: Poly relationship with the Leech twins. Just to clarify, a relationship of the prefect dating both Jade and Floyd, nothing between the tweels.
╰►Note: English is not my first language, so feel free to tell me if there's any grammatical mistake! <3
╰►Masterlist. (requests open)
—If you're wondering why the tweels would even get kidnapped, the answer is simple: because they were bored and wanted to see what would happen.
—The kidnappers were probably people that wanted to take revenge on Azul, thinking that Jade and Floyd were just his friends, not realizing that they were actually menaces.
—The twins could easily run away if they wanted, but as soon as Floyd mouthed "do you think Shrimpy will come to save us?", Jade smiled widely, agreeing with his brother.
—Cue (Y/n) arriving to the dark room where they had kept the twins, a bunch of suspicious men looking at a single human, splashes of blood all through a dirty uniform from Night Raven College.
—"Oooh, our hero! Told ya they were going to come~."
—"Well, you were right. What a lovely surprise."
—The prefect is approached by a giant man in a suit, a weapon in his hands as he intended to question the student with an intimidating demeanor, being interrupted by the magicless prefect before he could speak.
—"WHERE THE HELL ARE MY BOYFRIENDS?"
—(Y/n) took him by the collar of his shirt, and that's where the fight started.
"WHAT WERE BOTH OF YOU THINKING? YOU COULD HAVE BEATEN THEM UP ON YOUR OWN." An angered Ramshackle student scolded the now free eels, who just stood there with pleased faces.
"Shrimpy~! But you looked so cute while punching them, did Azul give you that boosting potion again? Can you do it more often?" Floyd excitedly hugged the prefect's side.
"Imma punch both of you, I HAVE A POTIONOLOGY TEST TOMORROW."
"Now, now, dear, let's calm down." Jade smiled with his usual collected appearance. "It was certainly amusing to see you fighting like that, so I can help you study as a way of compensating you."
"And I'll give you lots of hugs and kisses too~." Added Floyd, as he wasn't the best at tutoring.
(Y/n) looked at both of them with a tired but caring smile, knowing they wouldn't be able to stay angry at the Leech twins for a long time.
They thought about acting irritated for longer, but suddenly Jade took their hand with a loving demeanor, and the prefect couldn't help but let out a chuckle at the attitude of the twins, as Floyd remained clinging onto them for his dear life.
The Octavinelle second-years were definitely a weird pair to love, but they certainly made their live more bright.
"Fine. Let's go home, morons."
Random random question of randomness for funsies:
What would a love triangle — actual or misunderstood (as in the guy who is actually crushing thinks there are vibes going on with his crush and the other guy, or at least he thinks the other guy is romantically interested, but there are neither vibes nor romantic interest) — between the following look like? And would the other guys actually be interested after all?
Floyd > Ariel < Kalim: Kalim has a lot of energy, like Ariel, and he too is fascinated by interesting things as well as excited to share elements of his culture to her. She is excited to take him on his offer to join him on a magic carpet ride. No one is sure how/when/why Floyd is there and squeezed himself between Ariel and Kalim, but the latter two don’t mind; the more the merrier!!
Vil > Snow White < Jade : Even as he continues to wear a polite smile while sparingly interacting with Snow White, the elder Leech brother is initially unsure if this girl is as genuinely naive and trusting as she acts or if she’s just plain stupid. After a few carefully executed accidental/coincidental encounters, he finds himself trying to figure out Snow White less and casually acting more as her bodyguard gentlemanly acquaintance who just so happened to suddenly appear behind any stalkers/passive-aggressive bullies she is unwittingly accumulating. While Vil does buy some products from Ashengrotto on occasion, he sees Jade as trustworthy as a sea snake. Why was this eel suddenly paying close attention to Snow White? Did Azul want something from her?? No??? Their summarized conversation: V: Why are you interested in Snow? J: May I ask why you care? V: You may not and I do NOT. J: Then it is of no concern to you. ^_^
Azul > Tiana < Trey: Baking Buddies!! Cue Azul trying not to sulk on the side as Trey and Tiana bond over exchanging recipes and learning each other’s baking/cooking tips.
Rook > Merida < Sebek: Sebek basically challenges Merida to random challenges, and cannot fathom why she is able to keep up with him despite being a human. Rook probably just is having fun watching and is cheering them both on (esp Merida) if not energetically participating.
Silver > Mulan < Epel : Epel and Mulan maybe both bond over others judging them for their appearance more-so than their abilities. Silver doesn’t care regardless if he can see or not; it’s Lilia’s hands poor Epel may catch if anything he does seems to “threaten” Lilia’s ship)
Jamil > Jasmine < Ruggie : idk maybe Ruggie made a snide comment about Jasmine’s cushy life as a princess who didn’t know about “real world” challenges but then gets cowed by her stern rebuttal while proceeding to educate him on exactly what a “cushy” life as a princess is actually like as well as what she understands about —and what she is currently doing about —real world challenges others face. And idk maybe Jamil is watching this exchange with heart eyes at Jasmine for being an absolute QUEEN and forgets to be jealous?
Leona > Belle < Malleus
AND
Malleus > Aurora < Leona
In both Leo’s and Mal’s case, it is obviously a misunderstanding to everyone but them for a little bit 😅 Basically they both happen to meet each other’s crushes, happened to have an engaging interaction, had some more, caught the other during these interactions with their crush (Malleus and Belle have a lot of conversations regarding books/maybe gargoyles; Leona and Aurora both quietly hang out taking peace in the silence and each of them taking turns watching over the other as they nap or they both nap), and both feel a bit threatened (Leona thinks Malleus is showing off his knowledge to Belle and is demonstrating how he’s her intellectual level, therefore implying that Leona isn’t and thus isn’t good enough for her; Malleus wonders if he is frightening to Aurora after all if she is comfortable enough with Leona to watch over and take occasional naps alongside him).
Kalim and Ariel are too oblivious to realize Floyd is jealous. Jamil is nervous and tries to explain this to Kalim, because it's obvious to literally everyone else but them. But Kalim is all, "Aw, no, we're all friends! We're having fun!" All the while Floyd is deliberately sitting between them or when he can't, has his arm over the back of Ariels seat or something in a protective manner. I think Floyd knows Kalim isn't interested and that i's all platonic with him, but it's more an instinctual thing and less to do with logic.
Meanwhile Jade kinda likes getting a rise out of Vil a bit. Jade got got close to Snow White purely out of curiosity. But Snow is sweet, she likes walking in the woods with him, even trying mushroom recipes with him. I feel like Snow would think mushroom decorated stuff was very cute and gift Jade stuff decorated like that. So after some time, Snow becomes part of Jades circle, and Jade looks after her, because she is that naïve and trusting and someone has to keep her out of too much trouble. Cue Vil who is not all that happy with this turn of events. Snow is hanging out with Jade more and more and likes talking about their hikes and cooking. Vil knows the Tweels, especially Jade, is shady, and doesn't want her hanging around him. and like you said, Jade just goes "It's none of your concern". Half because it's not his business, but also getting a rise out of the normally put together housewarden is entertaining.
Trey loved the beignets Tiana brought to the unbirthday party and offered one of his recipes as trade if he taught her how to make them. Tiana agrees and they keep having this back and forth recipe exchange where they show each other different recipes. All of their dormates and friends are very pleased at this delicious turn of events. Well everyone but Azul. Tiana and Trey get along extremely well and have gotten very close and are often seen together and Azul is pissed. He keeps trying to get to come hang out at Mostro Lounge or to check out their new kitchen equipment and even then Trey comes up, "Oh that would perfect for the pastry Trey wanted to try and make!" "I have to study with Trey, but i'll come by later." It is infuriating to Azul.
The thing about Rook and Silver is that I don't think either of them are really the jealous types. But everyone else will do it for them.
Vil: Doesn't bother you that Merida is spending awful lot of time with Sebek?
Rook: Not at all! I find their competitive comradery a wonderful thing!
Lilia: Mulan seems to have gotten awfully close to Epel recently. She hasn't come by for sparring as much as she used to.
Silver: Yeah, they took up boxing together, they're really enjoying it.
There is not a jealous bone in either of their bodies.
Jasmine, while she does not take shit from people and will defend herself as needed, also acknowledges the benefits and also downsides of her upbringing. Like she brings up at the start of the movie her frustration at the fact she has never done anything for herself or of her own choice. I think Ruggie would have similar appeal to her as Aladdin, someone who has had the opposite background but won't quite condemn her for it. I think he initially expected her to be like Leona or Kalim, someone spoiled that needs someone to do everything for them. Only to be pleasantly surprised that Jasmine is willing and wants to learn to do things herself. Like maybe she asks Ruggie to teach her how to mend clothes or something because Jamil and the other princesses are busy lately and she's getting frustrated with herself, and she just wants to fix her favorite pair of pants, dang it! So Ruggie helps her and explains it in a way she can understand she picks up quickly afterwards. Then they keep hanging out after that, and it turns into Jasmine asking Ruggie for help or excitedly showing him something she did that he taught her to, more and more than Jamil, and now Jamil is feeling her absence in the dorm. He even walked through the Scarabia mirror to see Jasmine scurrying over to the Savanclaw mirror with what looked to be a plate of home made doughnuts. He stopped her to say Hello and ask what she was up to, and she explained she made her first batch of doughnuts without any help and wanted Ruggie to be the first to taste them since he showed her how to make them, before saying bye and hurrying off through the mirror.
The whole Malleus-Belle-Aroura-Leona thing I like to think is going on at the exact same time. Belle and Aroura are great friends, they hang out all the time, so of course they interact with Leona and Malleus all the time. But never all four of them together. Aroura, compared to a lot of the other princesses, is very calm and has a pleasant voice, she's been singing as she walks through the botanical garden tending and collecting plants, and instead of finding the noise annoying, Leona finds it very soothing. Belle will sit and read to them and they will both pass tf out. Meanwhile Malleus enjoys Belles company as another friend. Aroura is his Child of Man, but Belle is definitely someone else he considers a dear friend. (Something Lilia is very happy about. His boy has friends!) I feel like they would info dump on each other about their specific interest. Like Belle will talk at length about whatever series she's reading and Malleus will go on about gargoyles and architecture, and then they go try ice cream flavors with Aroura later. But again, it's never all four of them together, they aren't some big happy group, their with Malleus or Leona, on their own or as a trio. So it never clicked to either guy that the girl they like is hanging out with the other, even though it makes perfect sense. Only for Leona to find Malleus and Belle looking over piles of boos on the history of gargoyles and and Malleus to go into the botanical garden to find Aroura happily chatting with Leona after they both woke up from a nap. Neither of the mare happy about it, but have no way of telling Belle and Aroura about it without sounding like an asshole.
