I had a dream that toritsuka had a deviantart account and the only thing he posted was a sparkledog oc that looked like him from the apocalypse and then akechi found it and got him banned from deviantart for plagiarism because apparently toritsuka stole yumehara's art

The fact that Chiyo used to write fanfics is stuck in my head so I've been thinking like, Very probaly she is the type is girl who imagines a whole domestic and lovey-dovey life with her crush (Shun).
"Chiyo, Baby. I'm home, i was fighting against dark reunion, i'm sorry i am late, i bought you flower as an apologise."
Kaidou gives her an stupidly big flower bouquet
"O-oh, thank you shun, and i don't really mind, jus-just don't be late next time, yes?"
"anything for you, princess"
"hehehe.... I should leave the shower now..."
Somewhere, a pink-haired boy is cringing real hard.

I don't know why people call Saiki the aroace icon of the series when Mera is literally right there.
> When asked about romance by the people who paid her bill, Mera literally tells them to shut the fuck up cuz she's busy eating.
> Never shows any interest whatsoever in anyone's romantic situations.
> Doesn't even notice that people were staring at her at the beach for her nice body, only cares about her boobs as something she can sell in a worst case scenario hsfjdlshfks.
> Family is dirt poor and literally anyone else in her situation would be trying to seduce the local billionaire seeking a bride that's in her actual class. While Mera tries to join his staff and goes for any money he throws, she never makes the slightest effort to romance him even though it would solve all her problems. The thought does not seem to have even occurred to her, even though she's wily enough to trick her whole grade into giving her birthday gifts.
Meanwhile, Saiki is fascinated by romance as much as he tries to pretend he's not interested.
> Never fails to listen in on the latest romantic drama, investigates the love letters sent to Nendo and Kuboyasu and Kaido, follows the girls to the mixer, goes out of his way to find out if Hairo is gay, tries to get a freaking CAT laid, etc.
> Plays matchmaker with Yumehara, helping her boyfriend get back in her good graces and helping her with the Kaido misunderstanding, but also testing Toritsuka's theory of misattributed arousal (or whatever he called it) with the occult club members.
> Spoils half a series of books for himself because he just HAS to find out about the romantic drama that occurred 20 years ago to some of the ugliest people on the planet, when he regularly struggles to find books and movies he can enjoy.
> The whole Satou Situation™.
You can easily argue all day about Saiki but the truth is that Mera is the undisputed champ of complete disinterest in romance/sex.

sometimes i think about that episode in season 2 where yumehara tries to be slick in convincing kaido to stay on the island with her but kaido takes it as her calling him a 'useless piece of shit' so he cries and goes like 'i'll go on the raft and die then'.
like somebody give the poor boy a hug.

Thinking about a Saiki fic where everyone is kinda the same, but also slightly evil and that changes things...
Like this Kusuo would be more openly rude (like saying the things he thinks about everyone 'out loud') and not care of others didn't like him ( his love-o-meter is 20? that's great! He just wants to be left alone.) He does not get to be left alone, this is still Saiki Also he's still a tsundere and saying that he doesn't need friends, but still doing things for them
Now for the others Saikis, we could just exaggerate on things about them. Like, this Kurumi would still be super sweet to her family, but to everyone else she's kinda mean, and when angry she's worse than canon , she would have taught Kusuo to not use his powers only to keep he safe (maybe this make saiki use more his powers? Like not openly cuz that would attract people, but not really hiding it) Kuniharu however just encourage Kusuo to use his powers to his advantage, and help he's father of course. This Kusuo does not help.
Now to he's friends...
I think Nendo would be just like everyone think he is? Still more stupid than malicious, but now he will scare you for money and maybe beat you up. He doesn't do that often tho.
Kaidou would just think he's evil and the líder of the Dark Reunion. But he's still pathetic. You raise your voice and he will cry. There's a drop of blood at sight and he's fainting. But he's trying. Also he's backstory is that he probably was on the path of good but society made him realize that's no use and it's better to be the apex predator or you won't survive . Omg I love him
Teruhashi would still be doing her ✨pretty perfect girl✨act but now taking totally advantage of it, like getting things for free and using her fans to do stuff for her, she would probably be more involved with the kokomins. Now her motivation it's not only to make Saiki say "oh wow" bit humiliate him and make him beg for her attention or something like that (obviously it doesn't work and she grows out of it eventually, maybe)
It's kinda hard to think Hairo as evil, so he probably just scare people with his passion instead of inspire them, he doesn't notice it tho. But maybe he is more hot-headed too? It would combine with the fire theme he has
Yumehara is..hm...a yandere? Like it's not really that away from canon, she's already a stalker.
Mera is probably just more feral, and doing more violent shady jobs than canon
Kuboyasu is kinda the same, but let's say that he's motivation for getting out of the gang it's not because he wants to be better but cuz police it's on his back. But like I think I think he would go out of his way to protect the friend group, he would threaten anyone that messes with Saiki, Shun, Yumehara and Teruhashi (cause he sees them as more fragile or something) and for the kubokai shippers out there me he would think Kaidou story about being super evil really cute and teach him some intimidation technics or something cuz anything physical would fail
Now for people who I don't really know how to change
Toritsuka: cuz he's already...him. Saiki would probably kill him tho
Aiura: She's great and idk what to make for her to not be, maybe more egoistic? And not caring that all of her friends are like that?
Akechi, cuz he could probably stay the same and it would not matter that much, he's kinda creepy. But he could go like Chiyo and just evolve into a yandere or smh. But I don't wanna repeat things. Only it would fit Chiyo themes of being a secondary character hmmm
Saiko because he's rich, and rich people are automatically evil. And he already not that great, if you exaggerate him he would be kicking poor people for fun
Kuusuke: cuz I'm in doubt. Like it would be nice for him to be the "good one" to our "evil" protagonists or at least think of himself that way while being as a mad scientist as in canon. OR we could do de other way and put him to be fascinated by Kusuos powers of the destruction and see his brother as a evil warlord but wanting to be on his side being the two monarchs of the world (Kusuo does not vibe with any of these, and think they're incredible dramatic, also he hates his brother cuz he was probably called a monster in both scenarios)
Also extra for Hii, cause she's not evil, but her bad luck only affects others

Previously in Yandere!Teruhashis I've really enjoyed no-powers Saiki because that'd be an irony hell for him right out of the ‘Nendo saves him from a bookshelf’ chapter
But lately I've been thinking more about a Saiki who still has powers and still can’t figure out a way to save himself by himself because nothing like reverse telepathy or his nanana is working - the behaviour is too deeply rooted, and though resetting the clock on the trigger that leads her to ultimately snap could buy him time to figure something else out.
Could it reliably be counted on that trigger that came about the first time was the only trigger?
Or could he successfully override her free will by changing the world? and would using that method be ‘right’ or ‘wrong’?
And that only leaves evasion or offense.
But evasion puts other people on Teruhashi’s yanderadar to become potential victims. How does he save those other people without outing his powers? And worse, what if he doesn’t get there in time or makes a mistake?
Yumehara was this close to dying because of the time limit on his telepathy...
that in turn leaves only offensive options.
Except it doesn’t, because he likes Teruhashi a lot actually and though Saiki is no stranger to using violence, even though I think he only likes exerting violence in very specific circumstances (Read: Toritsuka), that behaviour is VERY gender-specific. I'm not saying Saiki couldn’t hit a girl, but I am kinda saying that Saiki couldn’t hit a girl, much less beat the hell out of them or explode their insides. When it comes to most people but especially girls he prefers psychological warfare but
well~
A Yandere Teruhashi would have to be a Teruhashi who’s snapped. I don’t think it’s in her natural behaviour-set but I do think it could be a logical consequence of her natural behaviour-set. Teruhashi does genuinely care deeply about other people. She actively goes out of her way to appeal to them and enrich their happiness. That it rewards her to the extent it does could be described as unhealthy for the extremity of it, but it’s not unnatural to be kind to others as a form of self reward i think - it makes sense there’d be a neurobiological component to reward behaviour that’s good for the group which includes the self instead of only the self and excludes a group in a pack hunting animal. i don’t think it even requires empathy, but i do think it requires a grasp of the ‘group rules’, which is where a lot of struggle can happen with inefficient communication.
ANYWAYS.
It's sometimes the extremity or the permanentness of the behaviour that leads to poor health. While I don’t think Teruhashi is necessarily unhealthy at the time of the show - generally speaking what she does works for her and the people around her. However the framework she’s set up for herself comes with the highest reward in a very rigid set of circumstances, and she's not at all flexible with it. These things aren't allowed to be context specific, it has to be the same standard across everything.
You could even say, a standard of perfection~
And that's where I think she'd get into a dangerous situation with her mental health, possibly enough for her to stop caring about hurting other people - especially if they reinforce it that she can do no wrong and it'd be an honour to do her bidding or be killed by her actually. Canonically, she does loosen up a little bit and learn some lessons, but by the end of it she's still caught up in her perfection, and on Saiki. She's learned less to rely on other peoples standards as guidance, and has become more self assertive by her own standards (which mind are still. based on others standards. but she cares a little less in pleasing others) UNLESS it comes to pursuing Saiki. If she sees an opening she was do her damndest to dig her little finger in and screw in tight.
which could so easily lead to
-chefs kiss- SUCH good (and with her army, powerful) yandere.
“I’m the perfect pretty girl so that means you don’t mind if I kill you right?”
“I’m the perfect pretty girl, nothing I do is wrong. -Kira eye flash-”
“I’m the perfect pretty girl, and it’s about time I made Saiki understand that.”
“I’m the perfect pretty girl so why doesn’t he want me? This challenges my entire reason for living! Time to go -licks knife- above and beyond to maintain my structural integrity~”
“Nobody is as good as me so it’s okay if I kill them! I’m just doing Saiki a favour!”
“Why am I so obsessed over Saiki? When Chiyo and Aiura are right there? ......Time to murder my feelings!! :D”
“Why is my ability to cope and have self esteem reliant on the validation of other people who are mostly men? ...Hey Sawakita go kill my brother for me. Oh and my parents while you’re at it.”
“O-Oh wow! Anything for you Teruhashi!!”
Saiki sweating in the corner desperately wondering how he’s gonna battle a cult that just so happens to comprise the city’s entire male population (and most of the girls too but they’re never shown trying a violence at Teruhashi’s behest for some reason)
etcetc
And I don't think Saiki could beat that alone. In fact, I think he'd give in. Teruhashi probably wouldn't ask him to use his psychic powers to her benefit, she just wants, well.
Him.
(To say offu, but by that point just that wouldn't be enough)
And moreover, though in canon by the end of the show I think Teruhashi is very fond of Saiki as a person, at the beginning to mid point she really seems to view him as a particularly frustrating toy that just isn't working right, so if she presses this or unscrews that or shifts around those components or, at worst, read the manual if her perfect brain can't figure it out, he might work.
I think a yandere!Teruhashi would be a very unwell one who might experience an extreme negative character arc that'd regress how she sees people. I think she'd be able to come back from it with the right amount of help and support because I do think at her core she doesn't want to hurt anyone
but desperate people do desperate things
and hurt people hurt people, and often times they don't even realize they're doing it.
If Saiki saw a bad end panning out, he'd probably get on that shit asap before too much permanent damage can be done. And it'd prove very fruitful when the people he saves team up to liberate them both~
and then Yumehara and Teruhashi kiss and while nobody's fixed there's a few more headstones and things are a little closer to being better like they were.
Potential kill count for this not-a-fanfic-
Satou Hiroshi (rip he was a rival tho :( )
Kuniharu (maybe he trash talked his son at a party again)
A redshirt or two in Teruhashi's army
Makoto (for obvious reasons)
Potential injury count for this not-a-fanfic
Kusuke Saiki (rival/antagonist. more reasons to hide that eye with his hair after Teruhashi catches onto the whole brocon thing but he'd also be pivotal to getting his lil bro back so.......their relationship status is deffo set to complicated on Facebook)
Aiura (rival/antagonist)
Yumehara (in love with/rival/antagonist)
Akechi (antagonist)
Toritsuka (antagonist)
Yuuta (rival even if it's a different kind of affection)
Again a redshirt or two
Team who'd definitely get Saiki back: The blond Saiki (nobody is too thrilled about it though), Aiura, Yumehara, Akechi, Toritsuka
Secondary team but mightve been waylaid early in the initial struggle?? : Kurumi, Kuboyasu
Is baby and needs to be protected at all costs: Kurumi, Yuuta, Kaidou

Kurumi: This is such silly fun! I can go back in time and change anything in Nozomi's life!
Nozomi: Aw, don't feel bad Urara. Hey, I know what'll cheer you up!
Nozomi: ... Hey, where the heck is my banana thing?
*Kurumi runs out from behind a chair wearing a banana suit, and singing 'Peanut Butter Jelly Time'*
Kurumi: It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time! Peanut Butter Jelly Time! Peanut Butter Jelly Time! Where he at? Where he at?
Urara: Hahahahaha! Oh... oh, my God! Oh, Kurumi! That is SO funny! Oh, I did NOT see that coming!
Nozomi: But... that was MY thing!
Kurumi: I'm pretty sure it was the Internet's thing. Peanut Butter Jelly! Peanut Butter Jelly! Peanut Butter Jelly with a baseball bat!

If I Turned Into a Bug...
-------
Warnings: None (?)
Word Count: 0.1k
Characters: Saiki Kusuo, Teruhashi Kokomi, Kuboyasu Aren, Kaidou Shun, Yumehara Chiyo, Chisato Mera, Aiura Mikoto, Akechi Touma, Saiko Metori
--------
Saiki: “No. I would break up with you instantly.”
Teruhashi: *Ew no way*. “Of course, I would!”
Aiura: “We’re destined to be together I’d never stop loving you, even if you became a disgusting insect.”
Kaidou: “I would—definitely wouldn’t think of breaking up… haha what kind of bug are we talking about??”
Toritsuka: “Um—if I give you a wrong answer to this question will you break up with me? I’m going to say the wrong thing aren’t I—"
Akechi: “A bug? Perhaps. It depends on what sort of insect you’ve become, you could be a coleopteran, dictyopteran, dipteran, ephemeropteran type of insect. On that note, I am bit partial to lepidopteran species…”
Saiko: “No. What do I look like? Only poor people keep bugs as partners.”
Kuboyasu: “Yes. I’d stop people from squishing you.”
Mera: “I’d still love you” (would definitely eat you on accident).
Yumehara: “I—um, um oh my god I’m a terrible person I wouldn’t be able to love you anymore I am so sorry. “

Saiki K Christmas Headcanons
Tumblr media
Kusuo Saiki
☆ as usual, Saiki will pretend not to care about the holidays at all
☆ yet despite “not caring,” he still ends up celebrating with you at a Christmas party
☆ for the most part, he’s in the corner drinking hot chocolate and watching everyone celebrate
☆ but when you guys put on a movie (and everyone shuts up lmao) he actually gets really invested
☆ i feel like he probably loves Christmas movies because they’re dumb and somewhat unpredictable, and there are so many of them so he won’t get spoilers
☆ he won’t admit this if you ask
☆ you don’t expect him to get you a gift, but despite everything he says, he really cares about you
☆ you don’t know how it gets there, but on Christmas day you find a present with your name on it under your tree
☆ he didn’t put his name on it, but it’s definitely from Saiki
☆ and it isn’t fancy or extravagant but it’s thoughtful and kind of perfect
☆ (you thank him with coffee jelly later)
Tumblr media
Kaidou Shun
☆ he thinks about what he’s going to get you a long time before Christmas
☆ he wants it to be completely perfect so you know just how he feels about you
☆ (ask him though and he’ll say something about how Christmas is “just for mere mortals” or how he’s celebrating it to uphold his human identity lmao)
☆ the gift he gets you is thoughtful, but his Christmas card is what stands out
☆ Kaidou really has a way with words, and he pours his heart into it
☆ when you thank him he’ll get really flustered, but he’s overjoyed that it made you happy
☆ (i also feel like he really loves Christmas songs, but he tries to keep it a secret because it’s not “cool“ or whatever. but one day you catch him belting out Mariah Carey and he gets so embarrassed ajsfsjdkjdsf)
Tumblr media
Nendou Riki
☆ honestly i feel like Nendou gives really weird gifts 😭
☆ but it’s really the thought that counts, right?
☆ he’s a good cook, so i also like to imagine that he bakes Christmas cookies during the holidays
Tumblr media
Kuboyasu Aren
☆ i feel like Christmas probably wasn’t a big thing when Aren was in his gang
☆ so he’s really excited to celebrate it with all his new friends
☆ he’ll entertain you and anything you want to do with him
☆ it’s not that he’s disinterested, it’s just that seeing you happy is what he appreciates most
☆ when it comes to his gift, he doesn’t want to disappoint you
☆ he knows that you’ll be appreciative about anything, but he wants it to express everything he feels about you, as he isn’t the best with words
☆ (considering how he acts in the episode where he gets the confession, it’s clear he takes his relationships really seriously)
☆ i feel like he’s the type of person to get you something you mentioned wanting offhand once
☆ something you wouldn’t have expected him to remember or notice in the first place
☆ of course, you love it and that makes him feel so proud of himself
Tumblr media
Teruhashi Kokomi
☆ Teruhashi would give you exactly the right gift
☆ basically just what’s expected of her (she is the perfect pretty girl after all)
☆ she stops by your house to drop it off, but she ends up roped into some activity because of course your family loves her
☆ but she’s secretly really happy about it because she wanted to spend time with you
☆ she catches you under the mistletoe multiple times just by sheer luck
Tumblr media
Yumehara Chiyo
☆ i feel like Yumehara loves the whole Christmas season and the romance of it
☆ she definitely watches a lot of cheesy Christmas romcoms
☆ she makes you a really lovely card and a thoughtfully made gift
☆ she also tries to strategically place mistletoe for you to “accidently” find yourselves under
Tumblr media
Aiura Mikoto
☆ of course, Aiura always makes it known how much she loves and cares about you
☆ Christmas is no exception
☆ i feel like she goes all out for these kind of things
☆along with a main present she gets you little stocking stuffers
☆ little keychains or lip gloss if you wear makeup
☆ and she definitely gets all her friends little good luck charms, probably based of your zodiacs or something
☆ she won’t let you say that it’s too much
☆ "don’t worry about it, i get tons of cash from fortune telling anyway!”
☆ she also definitely loves singing Christmas songs with you
Tumblr media
Mera Chisato
☆ she’s really poor, so she can’t get you anything extravagant
☆ her favorite part of Christmas is obviously the food
☆ she works extra shifts to get gifts for her siblings and one for you
☆ she’s worried that it’s too small, but you love it
Tumblr media
Saiko Metori
☆ Saiko has probably been giving you things all season
☆ like a twelve days of Christmas kind of thing
☆ he doesn’t take no for an answer when you tell him it’s too much
☆ (but he pretends he’s only doing to flex, despite not getting anything for anyone else)
☆ on Christmas day, you think that he’s probably lonely in his big house with only his body guards to keep him company
☆ so you suggest that he spends Christmas with you
☆ of course, because he’s still kind of a jerk, he’s like
☆ “why would I want to spend Christmas with you instead of in my huge mansion with all my presents and money?”
☆ “Christmas isn’t all about presents and money. it’s about spending time with the people you love”
☆ he kind of short circuits when you say that, because he can’t believe you love him or that it’s separate from his money
☆ so he spends Christmas at your house
☆ it’s one of the best he’s had in a long time
Tumblr media
A/N: Merry Christmas everyone!
I know it’s technically not Christmas anymore (it’s just past 12am where I am), but I really wanted to post this. Thankfully I’m finally free from the shackles of school (at least for a bit), so hopefully i can write a lot more (i’d love to hear any requests you have). if you don’t celebrate, i hope you had a great day anyway <3

i could make you care
[saiki kusuo x reader]
author’s note: i tried to incorporate as many characters into this as possible to make it feel like an actual episode and i got overwhelmed so fast lol i haven’t written this many characters in a story in a long time. in any case hope i did them justice and that you enjoy :’)
word count: 3,029
Today’s morning is bright, and Saiki’s walk is quiet. Typically this would be no cause for concern. A quiet walk to school is few and far between, difficult to come by given the company he keeps. (He’d much prefer a calmer bunch, if he were granted the chance to choose, but that is neither here nor there.) Don’t misunderstand: he’d bask in this brief peace, guaranteed to be broken the moment he passes through the gates of PK Academy, if the reason for this uncharacteristic period of silence comes about because of the absence of one particular person—someone who, if one could hardly believe it, Saiki actually prefers to have around more often than not.
He walks past the street which leads to your home, his pace never slowing because he expects you’ll join him, as you do every morning. You’ll wait for him on the corner and smile widely like you haven’t seen him in weeks then skip towards him, falling in step easily. He’ll remain nonplussed as you hug his arm, give it a brief squeeze as you greet him—Good morning, Kusuo!—and then promptly let go because you understand he likes his space but you just can’t help but indulge a little bit.
However, none of the aforementioned events play out this Friday. You’re not on the street corner, not there to smile and fall in step with him. There’s no arm hugging or a bubbly greeting Saiki pretends he isn’t affected by. But the truth is that he is, the routine coming somewhat as a comfort, even at the price of sacrificing some of his beloved personal space. So when you’re nowhere to be found his brows furrow and he wonders where you are.
His steps slow until he comes to a complete stop. He wants to check up on you, sooner rather than later. There isn’t much time to delay if he wants to make it to school before the first bell, but this won’t take long. He crosses his eyes, activating his clairvoyance, and he centers in on you immediately. You’re still at home. You’re at home, and you’re sick.
A box of tissues rests on your nightstand and you’ve pulled your small trash can right next to it from where it usually stands by your door. You toss used tissues into it before nestling beneath your blankets, pulling it up to just below your chin and hugging it close in order to retain heat. Your breath evens out quickly and he can tell you’re asleep. Your body must be exhausted dealing with your cold, and he’s confident this is the way you will be the rest of the day—drifting in and out of sleep, dealing with the sniffles and congestion.
He blinks and loses sight of you and now he’s staring once more down the road. Readjusting his bag on his shoulder with a sigh, he resumes walking and thinks about his plans for the day. As it was the last day of the school week, he’d planned to go to Cafe Mami for coffee jelly to celebrate. But now that he’s learned you’re sick in bed, he’d have to make adjustments. Momentarily he debates if that’s really necessary. You probably wouldn’t want visitors in the state you’re in, and knowing you, you’d tell him to go to the cafe without you to enjoy himself anyway. The thought is tempting, truly, yet he can’t shake the urge to check on you.
It feels less like an obligation and more like a simple desire of his own to make sure you’re okay. Saiki shakes his head, more amused than frustrated. There’s no one else for whom he would so willingly do this, or much else, for, and he doesn’t think he’d ever tell you because you’ll tease him the way you are wont to do whenever his facade cracks and he’ll let you have your fun because when you ask if you’re really so different as to make him act this way, the answer is, well, yes. You are.
He imagines this scenario and the corner of his lips lifts in a small smile. Good grief. You could be quite the handful.
“Hey, Saiki!”
Nendo’s voice is entirely too loud for the morning and Saiki heaves another sigh, one that sounds as though it belongs at the end of the day and not the beginning. Nendo is joined close behind by Kaidou and Kuboyasu, and they easily fill the silence with discussions about going to get ramen after class and the latest movements of the Dark Reunion. Saiki really only picks up words here and there that allude to the topic of conversation but it doesn’t require his full attention. It’s the same song and dance every morning.
The commotion once he arrives at school is much the same. During lectures he is afforded the temporary reprieve from having his ears talked off, since the only one speaking is the teacher, but at breaks, the noise resumes, and though he always stays sitting at his desk, in hopes the others will get the hint that he’s uninterested in chatting, they inevitably crowd themselves around it, until he is right in the middle.
Hairo has outlined a new workout regimen and in his louder than normal volume of speaking he shares it. He’s going to start it today, and if anyone wants to join, they’re more than welcome. It doesn’t look like anyone wants to take the offer, which is expected. Hairo’s exercise routines were… a little extreme.
In any case, Hairo is nonplussed by the lack of enthusiasm from everyone else and remarks he can’t wait for the end of the school day.
“I think I’ve been losing muscle tone,” he laments, and he complements this statement with a casual flex of his arm, more so to point out the specific areas he thinks are getting soft rather than to show off, but even if he isn’t trying, his biceps are bulging and if his sleeves hadn’t been rolled up, they would have torn.
Saiki’s brow raises. Yeah… I don’t think that’s an issue for you, Hairo.
“I’ve just finished installing an indoor gym at my home, you know.”
Everyone turns to find Saiko has entered into the circle, a smug smirk on his face. When had he gotten here? Really it’s only Hairo who has any sort of reaction to this, eyes practically sparkling imagining the machines and equipment (or maybe that’s just the glare from the fluorescent classroom lights). All the same, Saiko relishes the attention, boasting of the privacy and space and how really, it’s so much easier to be productive if there’s no one else there but Saiki can only wonder if Saiko even works out at all. He doesn’t remember that being mentioned, and Saiki is nothing if not detail oriented.
Saiki doesn’t have long to ponder over this (not that it would’ve continued much longer because he doesn’t actually care about whether Saiko exercises or just set up a gym in his house to brag) before Nendo asks where you are.
Had he just noticed? You always join them on their walk in the morning. But Saiki can’t say he’s surprised it took this long. What he is surprised about is that Nendo had noticed in the first place.
“Oh that’s right,” Kuboyasu adds. “I thought she just went ahead of us today.”
Yumehara informs them of your whereabouts before Saiki does. “She texted me this morning she wasn’t feeling well so she stayed home.” Her phone dings with a new message and she glances at it, then looks back up. “But she says she’s a little more awake now!”
“It’s the Dark Reunion.” Kaidou’s sudden interjection draws everyone’s attention. He clenches his right fist, staring at the bandages wrapped around it. “They’re trying to get to me by going after my friends!”
Saiki remains expressionless but if he didn’t have such good control he would’ve rolled his eyes. Or maybe she just has a cold.
Upon Kaidou’s claim that a secret society is responsible for your illness, Saiki picks up Yumehara’s thoughts: I wish I was the one Kaidou was so worried about! Maybe if I got sick he’d worry about me too! Getting sick to grab Kaidou’s attention? That’s… going overboard, but Saiki can’t find it in him to be shocked, considering from whose mind this speculation has sprung.
“Poor [Name],” Teruhashi says, kind as always. She sets an index finger on her chin, gaze momentarily aimed upwards as she thinks. “I was about to suggest we all go to the cafe after school today and I wish she could join.”
This gives Saiki pause. Wait. The cafe?
“That sounds like a great idea!” Yumehara declares. Again Saiki hears her thoughts: If we go, I need to do my best sit next to Kaidou!
Whether a visit to Cafe Mami comes across as a good idea because it’s a fun way to celebrate the end of the school week or simply because Teruhashi suggested it, Saiki doesn’t know, but one by one the murmurs of assent resound through the group and he barely contains a relieved huff. He’d already changed his own plans from visiting the cafe to seeing you instead, and it’s a good thing too since it’s apparent his alone time would’ve been ruined. Now he has an excuse not to stick around.
Once the final bell rings, they begin their walk into town towards the cafe. The sidewalk feels crowded with all of them on it, and they have to split into pairs to keep the opposite side of the sidewalk free for people going the other way. Among comments from everyone else about how hungry they are, Saiki makes known his intention to just pick up food before leaving. There’s somewhere he needs to be.
“You’re going to go make sure [Name] is doing okay!” Teruhashi exclaims. It’s a statement, not a question. “That’s sweet of you.”
Saiki shrugs. “Sweet” is not the first word he would associate with his actions. It just seems like common sense to check on you. You’d looked miserable this morning, but he takes your message to Yumehara earlier as a good sign that you’re improving, slowly and surely. Still, he’d be more comfortable seeing you himself. He hadn’t gotten any other chances today to use his clairvoyance, but at least it wouldn’t be long now until he’d be heading to your house.
Chisato is working today and she seats everyone. Saiki goes directly to the counter to place his order—coffee jelly for him and strawberry mochi for you—and he stands off to the side while waiting for the treats to be packed. The others are sitting on the far side of the cafe (in his peripherals he sees Yumehara has taken a seat right next to Kaidou) but he can hear them clear as day discussing what food they should order. Yes, he’s certainly glad he won’t be sticking around. Spending Friday in the midst of that noise is far from ideal.
Holding the bag of coffee jelly and mochi in one hand, Saiki uses the other to push open the door, the bell jingling gently, and someone, Nendo it sounds like, raises their voice to shout across the room: Seeya later, Saiki! Then the door closes behind him, and all he can hear is the footsteps of other pedestrians and the low whoosh of cars.
He exhales slowly. Peace at last. He proceeds in the direction of your home, and when he thinks to himself that any longer and his ears might’ve begun to bleed, he’s only half joking.
In the neighborhood it’s much quieter, the only person he passes being someone walking their dog, and only a couple of cars drive past. He knocks on the door and he assumes you’re in your room and so it will take some time for you to open it, but you’re there faster than he expects. You open it just wide enough to stand in the gap, and immediately he notices the fatigue in your eyes. When you realize it’s him, they light up, and the fatigue fails to take away from the brightness of your smile as you open the door wider.
“Kusuo!”
Inside, he sees you’ve moved downstairs to the living room. That’s why you’d answered the door so quickly. There’s a pile of blankets on the couch and a tissue box on the coffee table. The television is on and playing an animation. He doesn’t recognize it, but it must be one of the new ones you mentioned wanting to watch. However, you’re not interested in it now that he's here and you grab the remote to turn down the volume.
“I thought you were going to the cafe today,” you state, head tilting.
Saiki shakes his head. Change of plans. Instead I brought the cafe to us. He holds up the bag of food and doesn’t have to tell you what’s in it. You squeal in delight that he’s come bearing treats, but the sound is a little raspy and awkward due to your sore throat. It’s still easier on Saiki’s ears than the earlier commotion he’d been surrounded with and, if he’s honest, it’s cute.
You plop down on the couch and wait as he joins you. He unties the bag and opens the box, first taking out the packaged pink mochi and handing it to you. Then he grabs his coffee jelly and the plastic spoon it came with before settling back against the cushions.
You sit cross-legged facing him and bite into your soft and squishy treat, humming delightedly. “Thanks, Kusuo.”
Saiki chews a mouthful of coffee jelly and glances at you.
You grin and hold up the mochi. “For the snack and for coming to see me.”
He shrugs because it’s no big deal. Or, well, he tries to play it off like it’s no big deal. But you know him better than that, better than most others do, and don’t brush it off so quickly. You breathe out dramatically and set a hand on your chest.
“What must I have done for Kusuo Saiki to give up his quiet time for me?” Then you giggle, and  it’s punctuated at the end by a sniffle.
He tells you there would’ve been no quiet time at the cafe since the others had also decided to go, and that you’re much better company. Even when I’m sneezy? you ask him, and he chuckles. Yes, even when you’re sneezy.
His remark about coming to see you because he’d prefer to be here and not at the cafe with the rest of your friends is merely part of the truth. The rest of it is that he did genuinely want to check on you to make sure you were okay. Though to give this a voice felt like too much for someone typically so reserved in his feelings, but you understand perfectly fine as you smile softly. You’re appreciative of his actions, and it would seem Teruhashi had been right about them, for you murmur that he reminds you of the mochi you’re eating: You’re so sweet!
Grabbing your mug from the coffee table, you frown when you see it’s empty. “I ran out of tea.”
Saiki sets the spoon and now empty container back in the box then holds his hand out. You blink, momentarily confused, but when it registers what he’s doing, you give him the mug. As he stands to make his way into the kitchen, you call after him.
“Thank you!”
Having been to your house a number of times already, he knows where everything is and starts brewing a fresh cup of tea. You’ve turned the volume up on the television again, but you have to rewind to return of the spot you were at before he’d arrived. Once he comes back with a filled mug, instead of allowing it to continue to play, you pause your show.
You’d snuggled beneath the blankets and have to finagle your arms out of the multiple layers to take the mug from him. You say thanks again and blow gently at the tendrils of steam floating from it. The ceramic is warm in the palms of your hands and you sigh contentedly.
“Sorry I’m a little high maintenance today,” you apologize suddenly. “I’d make the tea myself but I just have such little energy…”
Saiki wishes you wouldn’t apologize because there’s nothing to be sorry for. So he tells you as much. Don’t apologize. Besides, he’d offered to make that tea, and if you wanted soup, he’d offer to make that too. He does understand where you come from, however. You tend to be more independent, opting to do things yourself, and you also know his propensity for being alone and needing space. As such, you’re careful not to be overbearing, and the idea of Saiki doing even little tasks like brewing you tea bothers you.
It’s endearing, the level of care you take to make sure he’s comfortable too, but when he says you’re far from high maintenance, he means it. You immediately understand what he’s implying and laugh before scooting closer and leaning your head on his shoulder.
“Okay, point made,” you concede. With a small smile, Saiki grabs the remote you’d tossed down on the couch and presses play.
He would struggle to call you high maintenance on any day considering who your friends are.  They’re loud and all over the place, practically bouncing off the walls. Life could hardly be tranquil when around them and their antics. It’s the total opposite of Saiki, who values calm and silence. If they were high maintenance, he was low maintenance. That’s the way he prefers to be, existing in relative quiet and as close to mediocrity as he can muster. But he can't say he’s opposed to the occasional interruption to the otherwise mundane, especially where it concerns you. You’re not to be found on one side or the other, but right in the middle, and to Saiki, you are just right.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
Not quite a headcanon but a meta-analysis. Teruhashi is only about 30-40% through her character arc by the end of canon, imo. She's starting to realize that she can't actually be as perfect as she wants to be and dealt with a minor consequence of it (when she fainted at school), but she didn't actually stop aiming for perfection in general, and she still gives a socially acceptable response for a perfect pretty girl. She still hasn't realized that by performing perfection for her simps, they're in control of her almost as much as she's in control of them, and she hasn't resolved the core issue that makes her flip out and start a cult in every alternate universe: the fact that she considers herself unique and separate from the rest of the world and yet burdened with everyone else's expectations. It's really a shame that we never really got any kind of resolution for her character arc... 🤷🏾‍♀️
18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?
The best relationship Teruhashi has in canon is, by far, her friendship with Yumehara. Yumehara is the first person to actually be a person to Teruhashi, someone she can talk to and share secrets with, someone who won't put her on a pedestal. Teruhashi really doesn't reach that level with anyone else, and as far as we can tell, this is her first and only friendship ever!!
Imu only starts to reach friend level with her towards the end, and as much as she chases Saiki, Teruhashi has never really actually talked with him iirc??
And it's a fun fact, but the one thing that all the evil Teruhashi AUs have in common is that Yumehara isn't mentioned or isn't her friend. She's truly the one who's kept Teruhashi sane!
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Then: Ok she's funny but damn, give poor Saiki some breathing room. Some of that shit would've gotten him killed if he wasn't a god, holy shit.
Now: So much screentime and so many supporting characters to keep her relevant (Saiko, Makoto, Imu, various simps), but no complete character arc?? Whatttt??
[Context] <- leaving it open for the time zone stragglers but I'm done answering for the night, thanks everyone 💜💜💜💜

What i would say to the Tdlosk characters [ Honest opinion]
[i'm not trying to be rude for my comments, i really love the anime. It's one of my favorites.]
Tumblr media
Teruhashi Kokomi:
If wasn't for Saiki, i would have fallen in love with you.
Sometimes i feel like you act like a wh*re but you just need attention, so stop.
Saiki Kusuo:
I find you kinda cool but you have to stop being pessimistic, i mean, f*cking chill men.
What would happen if you're schizophrenic? Spooky.
Nendō Riki
No offense but… Your parents are related? That would explain a lot of things.
I would be your friend bc you're funny.
Kuboyasu Aren
I horny for you.
I respect you but if you go back to being a gang member, you don’t know me.
Kaido Shun
I would send you to a psychologist just so they stop ignoring you, and also to stop you being weird.
You're so cute.
Yumehara Chiyo
Stop rushing things and choose wisely, your life won't end if you don't get a love partner.
Aiura Mikoto
I like your hair- i mean boobs- I MEAN… Forget it.
I would like to go shopping with you.
Saiko Metori
I swear to God, if you insult me for being middle class I WILL HIT THE SH*T OF YOU.
…Cuicos de mierda…
Saiki Kurumi
You make me feel lonely.
Hairo Kineshi
I like your enthusiasm but you have to understand that we're not all like that.
If you're going to force me to exercise, no need. My bf already does that.
Rifuta Imu
Just confess to her.
I…kinda like you?
Toritsuka Reita
Stop being a simp and start to act like a normal person.
It's funny to know that your power is useless now, if you just knew how to use it well…
Akechi Touma
Stfu.
Mera Chisato
Look, i understand that you're poor but there is something called SELF CONTROL.
I warn you not to steal my food or lose a hand.
Teruhashi Makoto
You disgust me.
If i were Kokomi, i would have sued you.
Saiki Kusuke
I would have liked you more if you weren't a masochist.
Be honest, would you get horny if an old man beats you in chess? That would be f*cking weird.

No Powers Saiki AU (3k)
Where he also has anxiety and selective mutism. (But also, nobody has powers. And that volcano issue never happens because I SAID SO.)
Uhm uhhhh, in no way am I a doctor, so this may not be very accurate. Sorry!!
TW: Panic attack, I don’t think this one needs a skip so I’ll just leave it as that (but if you need one, tell me :eyes:)
Also on my ao3!
Also well shit, I do like myself some good Kusuo and Akechi friendship :,)
Also also, ugggghhhhhh, the italics stuff don’t go through when I copy and paste from my docs rip. This is why I prefer ao3 more (and because their tagging system is HEAVENLY) so if you wanna read with all them proper italics I suggest switching to my ao3
ALSO ALSO ALSO, RIGHT WHEN I FINISHED THIS, I DISCOVERED ASL AND JSL ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SO D A R N H E C K I’M SORRY. I did a big oopsie,,,let’s,,,pretend that asl,,,is,,default,,?
Saiki Kusuo was not your typical boy.
Since he was young, it had been painfully obvious that he was a gifted child, surpassing his brother by intelligence and strength. This had drawn many curious scientists to him, and after several tests that went on for hours and hours, he finally broke. He stopped talking and he stopped wanting to be around people.
His mother, equally as tired of the scientists as her son was, decided to hide his identity away from the public, constantly moving from location to location to avoid the people who knew of her son’s abilities.
This barely helped with Kusuo’s social development as a child, so the more he moved, the more he decided that he would much rather live in an isolated world than a world filled with people with prying eyes and loud mouths.
He did make a friend once though, but it barely lasted due to unforeseen circumstances that involved a few beat up bullies, and it had surprisingly hurt when he had to move away again. Akechi was his first real friend, and realizing that he won’t be seeing him again felt weird.
As much as he loved being alone, a friend would’ve been nice.
So the night before they moved away, he had pushed open his parents’ door, gripping his pajama top tightly, and whispered really really softly to his mother, “Mama. Will I ever make a friend?”
It was the first time he had spoken in a very long time, in fact, his mother couldn’t remember the last time he had spoken to her without pointing and hand gestures. So predictably, she cried and hugged him tight, mumbling how sorry she was for ruining his chance at making a friend, too caught up with trying to avoid those nosey scientists.
Middle school went by like a blur, aside from the occasional school switch that still happened, yet not as often as elementary. He didn’t remember a single thing that happened during those school days, maybe a few anxiety attacks in the bathroom and a sad attempt at trying to socialize, but that was it. Maybe it really was easier to be alone, at least he wouldn’t have to worry about losing his breathing from the sheer amount of stress he got from the assembly hall.
Highschool came and Kusuo had a new plan: Accept that having friends are not necessary and speaking with your mouth is dumb.
He quickly learnt how to use ASL, much preferring that language over vocally speaking, and made sure his grades were as average as possible. He had excelled through middle school and elementary school like it was nothing, but it had led him to be placed on stage many times because of this. So no more of that, because that was a recipe for disaster to him.
Kusuo made sure everything was in perfect place before heading to school. He made sure the school knew about his condition, and he also made sure to let them know he didn’t want to be publicly known as the school’s “mute kid”, so he’d definitely blend in without an issue.
Kusuo couldn’t believe what was happening. He hadn’t even fully registered his first year of highschool properly and his second year was already here.
To start off, he had friends, something he did not expect to have. He could predict many things, the weather, what people were thinking, and if he tried hard enough, he could even predict who would walk by his classroom in the next second. But he did not see this one coming.
He didn’t even know how. Nendou was a dunce who went from copying his homework to hanging around and inviting him out for ramen and Kaidou was a chuunibyou who thought Kusuo’s hand gestures was some sort of secret language and ended up perceiving Kusuo as some ally to Jet Black Wings.
Yumehara, for no reason other than the fact that Kusuo looked cute, decided she was meant to be with him. A lot of effort was taken to avoid her, but just as she lost interest in him, the class- no, the world’s idol decided she’d have a crush on him too. Then there was the class representative, Hairo, who constantly screamed and moved and how does he not get tired?
Then there was Kuboyasu, Toritsuka, Aiura, and so many people it made his head spin.
But they all had one thing in common when they communicated with him, and that was the fact that they all thought he was deaf. Granted, people who use ASL were commonly deaf, so he wasn’t blaming them for assuming so, and it did help him a little since this made them talk less around him and gave him a good excuse for ignoring them half the time.
Two years he spent in this highschool, and not once had he fired rapid ASL before. He never got the chance to, and he didn’t have much care for doing so. Mostly because most of the people around him didn’t even understand sign language.
But sometimes, listening to Toritsuka talk on and on about some cute girl could really put you on edge. Especially when he kept egging Kusuo on about the type of girls he liked.
The thing was, Kusuo didn’t like romance. He liked observing it and the idea of it, but he would never want to be a part of it. Frankly enough, he didn’t find any joy in it, he much preferred a life of solitude.
“C’mon, I know you can understand me, Saiki,” Toritsuka poked, grinning widely. “What kind of girls are you into? Or perhaps are into boys? Seriously, tell me, maybe we can go on a double date sometime. What about Teruhashi--“
Kusuo scowled, taking a step back and suddenly flying into fast ASL that roughly translated to several insults and long explanations as to why Kusuo wasn’t going to tell him. Toritsuka only blinked in surprise, because he swore he just saw the middle finger between those fast hand gestures, and he took a step back, raising his hands in defeat.
“Relax! Alright!” Toritsuka said, dropping the subject for good. “Next time fling me a note or something, that is seriously intimidating!”
Kusuo winced, feeling the third piece of paper Kaidou had just flung at him hit his head. This had been going on for the whole period, and Kusuo wondered why the teacher hadn’t noticed it yet. Most of the notes Kaidou sent weren’t serious anyways, and clearly not worth writing back to him.
He barely understood the references the boy was making anyways.
“How about we hang out after school? Do you like cake?” The last note read.
Kusuo smiled softly. “Yes, I do like cake.” He wrote, and with ease, he strategically threw it back so it would land perfectly on Kaidou’s table.
Being around Teruhashi was not ideal at all, because wherever she went, many people would follow. Kusuo hated crowds more than anything, it made his throat close up and his face a little sweaty, though his facial expression would never express his discomfort.
It would always remain blank and devoid of emotions.
Which always peaked Teruhashi’s interest. She found it a challenge to make the “deaf” kid who barely spoke gasp at her beauty, it would be a mighty achievement, yet no matter how hard she tried, it just never worked, which only pushed her to try harder. It resulted in her falling in love with him, unfortunately.
“Saiki does have a cute face though,” Teruhashi mumbled under her breath right as she walked along with Kusuo. She assumed he couldn’t hear her, so she regularly said things like those quietly to herself whenever he wasn’t looking her way. He appreciated the compliment at times, but sometimes, they do get a little creepy.
Nendou probably didn’t understand the idea of deaf people, or perhaps he thought his idea was pretty smart. Either ways, Kusuo sometimes couldn’t understand why he had to shout at him to communicate.
Did Nendou think deaf people just had very very poor hearing? Probably. But it often got annoying when they were in public places, and Kusuo couldn’t even tell him to quiet down because he couldn’t tell when exactly he was actually shouting.
Both his shouting and talking volume were around the same range.
But, it was rather nice of him to go out of his way to learn a bit of sign language just so he wouldn’t have to shout at Kusuo anymore. It was actually pretty nice having an ASL buddy.
Note to self, do not use ASL around Kuboyasu too much. He will and can mistake them as gang signs and get either sappy or angry. Kusuo said in his head as he watched Kuboyasu stare off into the distance with his fists clenched, reminiscing about his gang days.
Several times Kusuo had mistaken Hairo’s sad attempt at ASL as actual words and once spent half an hour straight wondering why the boy had signed refrigerator geese to him during that dodgeball game.
Saiko had once walked up to him and declared that whatever “nonsense” Kusuo was going to sign, he’d know right away what they would mean. At first, Kusuo found it hard to believe that the rich boy had taken time to learn ASL within his one day of being in this school, but as it turned out, all Saiko did was hire a translator to follow him around to translate Kusuo’s words.
That was possibly the most amount of effort he’d ever seen from Saiko, and it was good enough.
Kusuo wondered if learning ASL had magically made him more attractive. Aiura would not leave him alone, with her blonde hair, tanned skin, overly accessorized things, and bubbly personality. She wasn’t like Teruhashi, who attracted more men than Kusuo could count on his fingers, so she wasn’t as annoying to be around with.
But then again, she was more forward than Teruhashi too, so it didn’t make her more appealing either.
Seeing Akechi again resurfaced too many feelings. He hadn’t really realized how much he missed his first friend, but then again, the same boy was probably very aware of Kusuo’s high intelligence and may accidentally reveal his secret with that blabbering mouth of his.
Though, Kusuo had to admit, Akechi hadn’t changed one bit since the last time he saw him. Besides the haircut of course, and some other details, like how good he was at deducting now.
Being around Akechi was always strangely comforting back then, there was just something about listening to him talk that made Kusuo feel comfortable. You could say his talking was like white noise to Kusuo.
“Why does everyone assume you’re deaf? You’re not deaf, you just don’t like talking a lot, right? Why don’t you tell them that? Is it because you find it easier to pretend to be deaf? I can understand that, you were always really quiet, which was nice because you were a great listener too. I never found out why you up and left our elementary school without saying goodbye, but you were crazy sma--” Okay, that was when Kusuo made him stop talking, and Akechi took this as a hint to keep it a secret. There was a pause before Kusuo finally signed something to him.
Sorry.
“Nothing to apologize! I don’t think it was your fault anyways, but your plan worked like a charm honestly,” Akechi smiled. “I hope you missed me, because I know I missed you. We have a lot of catching up to do, I’ll start! So basically…”
Kusuo did. He really did miss him.
A play. Their class was doing a play.
After all that effort of trying to stay off the stage, he still couldn’t avoid it.
He’d feel bad if he didn’t show up to contribute, so he definitely couldn’t just ditch them. The most he could do was play a background role, but even then he’d still be painfully aware that he would be in front of the whole school, and he just couldn’t handle that.
But seeing everyone giving their all to make this play work, Kusuo couldn’t help but join along, regardless of his own condition.
Practice for the play went smoothly, and he found himself being able to cope with it. All he did was sway around like seaweed, since that was his role, and then walk off when his scene ends. Easy, nothing too complicated, he would be fine.
Until Saiko got his sensitive feelings hurt and decided to pull their budget on literally everything, including the costumes. Now, Kusuo couldn’t care less about that issue if it weren’t for the fact that; if the other cast didn’t have their costumes, they wouldn’t stand out as much, and there’d be a higher chance of the audience staring at him.
Yet there wasn’t much time to do last minute preparations for props and clothing, so everyone was encouraged to try their best in making their own costumes before the deadline. Kusuo predicted that no one would actually follow through, and for once, he wished he was wrong.
Apparently he didn’t wish hard enough, because that was exactly what had happened during the play. Everyone mostly came in their gym clothes, some with small props to make it look like they’ve tried, and some who just didn’t do anything at all.
When Kusuo’s scene finally came up, he and the rest of the people who played as seaweed scrambled onto stage, making waving motions with their arms to simulate seaweed underwater. Things went well for the most part, Kusuo did as practiced and waved around just like his other seaweed playing classmates, but the longer he stayed, the more aware he became.
Eyes, everywhere, in front of him, staring too hard, too long. Their mouths are moving, but he can’t hear what they’re saying, it was like they were on the other end of a glass wall. Were they talking about him among themselves?
Had it always been this warm on stage? Was it normal for his hands to shake? Was he breathing? He didn’t remember exhaling, nor inhaling. His throat went dry, his whole body rigid from...fear?
Someone was pushing him, someone else was pulling him, but he can’t properly grasp what was happening.
The world went a bit blurry before he completely went dark.
Kusuo woke up in the nurse’s office, body aching and throat dry. He wondered how long it took for him to wake up, but depending on the sun outside, it may have been an hour or so. He sat up slowly, groaning slightly from the pain, before suddenly being attacked by a hug from a familiar person.
“Pal! You’re okay,” Nendou cheered, finally pulling away from the hug to double check on his friend. He lifted his hands, proceeding to sign to him, You just suddenly fell over after they pulled you off stage.
My bad, Kusuo signed back tiredly. Sorry.
“What’d he say?” Kaidou nudged Nendou. Did he really have to ask? It was quite obvious.
“He says he’s fine.” Nendou answered, completely leaving out Kusuo’s apology, which he found strangely comforting yet offensive.
“He literally had a panic attack on stage, what do you mean he’s fine?” Kaidou argued, then he looked over at Kusuo with a deeper frown. “Why didn’t you tell us you were having an attack?”
“He wasn't being attacked,” Nendou said blankly.
“A panic attack, it’s different,” Kaidou huffed. “Saiki, not to be intrusive, but do you have anxiety?”
Did...he? He honestly never thought about it properly. Sure, he did have anxiety attacks every now and then when he was a kid, but this was the first one he had after a long time, so he never really considered he might’ve had anxiety.
Actually, it was starting to all make sense to him now that he thought about it.
“I’m going to take that as a yes but you didn’t know,” Kaidou said slowly, concern laced in his tone. It made sense that Kaidou would know, it did seem like he used to have the same issue.
“Oh for sure, can’t you tell from the way his eyes had widened just now by half a centimetre?” Akechi piped up from behind.
Good freaking grief.
He knew his mother didn’t trust doctors, but Kusuo really needed to see one after literally fainting in school. Not only that, it wasn’t his first time having an attack either, this was just the first time it had gotten this bad.
Sitting in a psychiatrist's waiting room felt odd, because it seemed a lot more homey than a regular doctor’s waiting room, with paintings hung on the walls and carpeted floor. He wasn’t particularly nervous, but he knew his mother was, because the hand she was using to hold onto him was shaking.
It’ll be okay, he reassured, squeezing his mother’s hand tight.
And it was okay. The lady was really nice to him, gentle and understanding, she barely pried and most of the questions she asked were pretty normal. She was a little surprised to learn that Kusuo could speak, but not in a way that was obvious, only Kusuo could tell that she was.
Communication with her was sorta slow. He had to type onto his notes app on his phone for her to read to answer her questions instead of hand signing, which he didn’t really mind all that much.
His mother, who had been waiting outside for them to be done, immediately got up when Kusuo was finished and asked several questions, one being: Did he need to take medication now?
Fortunately enough, it seemed like his case wasn’t too severe yet, mostly because he could still handle being around people without an issue, so he didn’t need to take any meds for now. Although his selective mutism was pretty serious, it wasn’t too bad either in his case, due to the fact that Kusuo spoke through sign language rather than verbally, so he wasn’t completely mute per se.
He came back next week, and the next, and many more weeks after that. He really liked this therapy thing.
“So your friends think you’re deaf, so you’re using that as an excuse to ignore them sometimes?”
Oh, when she put it like that, it just made him sound like an asshole. But yeah, he pretty much was doing that.
“Is there a particular reason why?”
Kusuo drummed his fingers on his lap. There were many reasons why, but those reasons had long lost their meaning. At first, it was because he didn’t want any friends, but now that he did have friends, there wasn’t any reason for him to keep following them through. No matter how many times he told himself he didn’t like them, they were still his friends.
“And why do you not want any friends?”
“Making friends was hard, keeping friends was hard, and losing them was even harder.” Kusuo typed out. “I guess I stopped trying. But then they started coming to me, and it was weird because I had already accepted it.”
“So you got scared?”
She could say that.
She uncrossed her legs, only to cross them back moments later, and adjusted her glasses, leaning forward, “It’s okay to feel scared about losing your friends, but if you’re going to push everyone who wants to be with you away, then how are you going to know if they’ll truly leave you? There’s nothing wrong with wanting space, but people do need other people to survive.”
One of the many things he did like about his friends was the fact that they all knew he enjoyed sweets. It was pretty obvious that he did, with the way his face would smile softly and soften at the taste of coffee jelly.
Surprisingly, they never notice that he’d much rather be left alone. Either that, or they don’t care.
It was a small outing event, they were mainly just eating and talking, but also trying their best to include Kusuo as much as possible, even though he didn’t mind being left alone with his coffee jelly and cakes.
“Man, I feel bad not including Saiki in conversations sometimes,” Kaidou mumbled, assuming Kusuo didn’t know what he had just said because he wasn’t reading Kaidou’s lips. “Since it’s hard to talk to him sometimes.”
“I’m sure we’re trying our best,” Teruhashi beamed, making Kaidou flush red.
“We should probably just learn sign language like Nendou did.” Kaidou hummed, rolling a fork between his thumb and finger. “It’d be a lot easier.” Though possibly soul crushing for him, considering Kaidou had cram school and such already on his schedule.
“Sounds fun,” Kuboyasu commented. “I’d be down. Maybe we can surprise him.” Oh that was just too much, too nice, Kusuo didn’t even know what he did to earn this much love.
Nendou snorted, grinning widely as he pumped his fist on his chest, “I can teach you all!”
“That would save a lot of money.”
Kusuo stopped eating, a rare sight to see despite him being undisturbed, and he placed his spoon down. Everyone stopped talking, looking over at him in confusion before he finally opened his mouth, surprising them even more.
“I can hear you,” Kusuo managed out. “I always could.”
Teruhashi was the first to react, eyes widening and her face turning bright red. All those comments she muttered, he had heard them all.
Nendou blinked, smiling widely with his arms spread wide, “Congratulations on learning how to hear, pal!” Not quite there, but appreciated.
“Uh, uhm, OF COURSE! I knew the whole time,” Kaidou flashed a charming grin, which would’ve worked if it weren’t for the awkward pose he was doing.
Kuboyasu only stared, and drank his tea, “Oh. Well.”
“Sorry.” Then Kusuo paused, and raised his hands to sign. Felt more comfortable being like this, but you all are too nice to me. So the least I could do was tell you the truth. I don’t talk because I have selective mutism.
Nendou translated for them, and they all softened hearing this. Kusuo pressed his back against the booth seat and fiddled with his spoon before taking another bite. That felt easy, and weight lifting. Now that they know, he didn’t have to feel so bad about them going out of their way to do things for him just because they thought he was deaf.
“Of course I knew from the beginning,” Akechi boasted slightly, eyeing Aiura and Toritsuka with a smug grin. Aiura rolled her eyes at him, but pointed at Kusuo with a narrowed look.
“So you, like, could hear us the whole time,” she confirmed with him again. “I always thought you were just stupid smart, or something, at figuring things out despite not being able to hear, y’know?” Well, she wasn’t wrong about the smart part.
“That is so annoying!” Toritsuka blurted. “You’re annoying! Jeez! Would’ve been so much easier! Did you not tell us because you want an excuse to ignore us?” Kusuo recounted the number of times he avoided Toritsuka running towards him from behind, pretending he couldn’t hear him.
He proceeded to shake his head, very very slowly.
“He’s lying, by the way,” Akechi whispered. Kusuo clicked his tongue at that, earning himself a cheeky grin from Akechi.
Well that was that, now they all knew Kusuo wasn’t some deaf kid, even though that info might’ve spread throughout the school, which he really couldn’t care less about.
It was really nice, though, having friends he could trust.
