so this-- this is one of the last surviving images for a tiny rpg maker game I was trying to make for a gamejam in 2022, shortly before my hard drive died.
It was supposed to be a mix of aesthetics as the characters get transported between a series of bite-sized worlds. This would have been the first screen of a "Y2k Vibes" sort of world. I legit just slapped something wacky together in blender and decided it was perfect.
I'd say this was probably my first foray into pre-rendered backgrounds. I want to do more of those. Not even for anything big. Just to do them.
Your style is gorgeous! The textures and billboards are so clean, I'm wondering if you could go a little bit into how you make them? Things like Magellany's head or the inventory you showed off, they look straight out of the N64 or Dreamcast.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you like it!
The way I achieve this look is by modeling each texture in blender. All of the shapes and colors.
Then, I light these shapes up however I want them look like. I then render it out using an orthographic camera so it all comes out flat.
Lastly, I use these renders as textures and that is pretty much it. I am not sure what this type of style this is as I have never seen it done before but I call it Pre-rendered Textures.
It takes some time but I think it is worth it and very unique.
Mag's textures (which have been updated since that first post to be more similar to my current style).
Menu items and UI also have this same process along with environment textures.
Testing out some cronchy pre-rendered sprites and a tileset for a potential upcoming Lancer campaign! Getting the tiles to work with a hex map was kind tricky, but I managed to do it with 6 different tiles for cliff sides.
DETUNED is a bizarre game based on personal experiences with sensitivity to noise. It turns classic rhythm gameplay on its head: rather than hitting the notes of a song according to its beat, you need to avoid a randomly generated series of notes.

Are your ears ready for the most creative suffering they will ever experience? DETUNED is finally out. 8 endings, lots of strange remixes and places to see, and almost zero hope for silence.
Guess who started another project? I'll give you 3 guesses what my inspiration is this time.
In truth, I'd had this idea for a while and had a mockup in unity. I was going to make it my first project to get to know Godot, but I started fooling around first and Ursula came about because of that.
An attempt at a 3d-rendered resource pack, done using Blender Eevee (and Paint.NET's Quantise filter).
Please note that this is just a style-test, and if I do an actual one, it will probably look different (since I'll render the images using Cycles so I can do stuff transparent blocks and edge-wear effects).
Experimenting with using the Compositing window in Blender to create a pseudo-prerendered look; the background is rendered in Cycles with antialiasing, while the characters are rendered in Workbench with no antialiasing and a lower resolution.
