headcanon that when gale invites durge out to the clearing that night with intimate intent, durge originally asks to stay grounded and corporeal for it but as gale goes to remove their shirt they freeze and remember how scarred and marred their torso is, from [redacted]'s experimentation, like, there's no way she tidied up and healed up all the scars, right? and it burns that they don't even remember. what could they have done to deserve this.
but gale wants to reassure them, and they want him to know them, even if they don't remember. so they let their arms up and slowly, as the shirt pulls off, gale's face falls, and durge is mortified, wrenching their eyes closed in shame and resigned sorrow that this isn't going to happen anymore. and then they feel their hand against gale's chest, where he's taken it and put it against the scar that the orb deepens every day, and his other hand on their sternum where the thickest part of their scar is, and they look up at him and see that he understands, that his face isn't showing disappointment, it's empathy. and he tells them that they already forgave him his past, that they get the grace to just be what they are today too,
but if you're not comfortable,
and maybe that's enough for durge, maybe that's all it takes for them to cut him off with their hands and mouth and relief and gratitude, or maybe it's a different gratitude that has them laying side by side for hours, holding each other, silent promises to buy themselves more time.
but. maybe durge still wants it so bad, and just can't reckon with their own body, how distracting and demoralizing it would be to have to feel their past with every touch and shift when all they want is to just have this night. so gale offers his hand, glowing, and tells durge that they are beautiful in any form, to him, but that their body isn't what makes them them. and maybe the greatest gift he can give durge in that moment is to just be energy for a night, any night, until they decide they're ready otherwise.
and after durge's redemption, or rejection, however you'd like to look at it; living as humans or gods, durge may eventually come to terms with their scars, indifferent to them or maybe they're a source of pride and strength, after the fact. if they ascend with gale, maybe they heal them, or maybe leave them deliberately, as a reminder. but i think they never forget the grace that gale gave them that night. of forgiveness, and of agency.

early durgestarion is hilarious because Astarion is accidentally really good at seducing bhaalspawn
threaten them with a knife
respond positively to them ripping off someone's hand instead of helping them
have a detailed discussion on how you'd kill them (bonus points for going 'lol I'd like to see you try' when Durge asks how he'd like to be killed because who doesn't like a challenge)
straight up bite them (bonus points for almost killing them)
ask them which of their friends they'd most like to bite themself (and responds positively for the answer being him)
agree that 'they were annoying' is a valid reason to murder someone
generally be supportive of murder urges

Angsty Post-Game Durgetash thoughts:
A redeemed Durge who pleads with Withers to bring Gortash back, or at the very least help them gain access to Bane's realm. Withers refuses, saying that balance demands Gortash remain dead. Durge is distraught and furious, having given everything for nothing. And that is when the whispers start. A familiar presence, a shadow caught from the corner of their eye. Watching, knowing that Durge is desperate to save Gortash, perhaps desperate enough to do anything. One evening, in their dreams, Durge is revisited by their murderous Father with a proposition. After all, Withers isn't the only one with knowledge of how to enter Bane's realm. There is the back way - call it a servant's entrance - which Bhaal knows all too well.

ah ah we ask before we bite.
decided to do my first playthrough of bg3 as the dark urge and no regrets. the astarion romance is everything to me and I've had these two on a constant rotation in my brain for weeks (especially that one line i don't know why).
dark urge oc [chosen, she/they/he]

If you play Durge as caring/being upset about Gortash and Orin's death (assuming you turned against Bhaal here) then - shortly after being forced to murder at least one, if not both of them, and seeing the other one die regardless - as they grieve they will get to listen to the whole city hail them as a hero for murdering their loved ones everywhere they go within 24 hours of the end of a very taxing few weeks... Yay. Victory.
(The bards and minstrels of the Gate might want to hide in my canon lest they turn up mysteriously maimed is all I'm saying.)

Y'know, thinking about it it seems strange that Bhaal declares Durge Faithless (technically it should be False according to the lore but whatever) in the redemption ending. I mean I assume it's a lazy justification for why Withers can make any claim on their soul, but still. I mean, their soul belongs to Bhaal! They're bound to his afterlife no matter what! He could do anything to them, punish them however he wanted forever. And if there's one thing we can say about Bhaal, it's that he's pretty possessive of his children. So why's he just... letting his favourite, the child made from his own gore, get free of him? The fates for those declared Faithless or False aren't great, but why would Bhaal decide not to punish this particular child himself?
...Unless... Okay, Massive Overthinking time, is there any precedent for gods claiming/reclaiming a soul after it's been judged Faithless/False? Because if so that could be quite the punishment and manipulation rolled into one: get Durge judged Faithless, let them suffer for a few decades, and then when they're truly miserable and desperate to escape offer them "forgiveness". Let them "come home". If Bhaal left them to suffer for long enough odds are a lot of Durges would be willing to do whatever he wanted if it meant escaping that. Which also makes sense with Durge being declared Faithless instead of False, since if I'm understanding the lore right the False get judged by Kelemvor while the Faithless just get sent to the wall? Would Bhaal be able to decide that they're Faithless rather than False...? Is there a precedent for a bit of a god saying "Nope, not gonna do what you want anymore" to said god?

You're going to regret being mean to me when I get super powerful and cool, Minthara D< Just watch me romance Astarion again and know that it could have been you if you hadn't called me an abomination.
… and yes, obviously I'm romancing her in another playthrough with an evil drow. As if I wouldn't be batting my eyelashes at a mean drow woman.
We've got a support system for drow lovers over at Patreon, society6, and redbubble. It's... mostly talking about how much we love drow though.
