Out in the vast well of space, Obi-Wan dreamed a man. He drifted from system to system, eternal and endless. Time and the cold had rendered the durasteel shackles around his wrists and ankles weak and brittle, and he had snapped them at some distant point in the past. Arms and legs free, he curled inward, knees drawn up to his chest. The man died. And then he lived. In which Obi-Wan and Rex may never leave this world alive.

Rex's goal was to get into the organization, get the information, and take it down. Of course, no one had ever successfully infiltrated this empire, and most people had died attempting it, so it was easier said than done. But, the fact that a government agency had also sent in an agent, their best agent, was either a very good or very bad thing. Rex just happened to recognize them, and for some reason, Ben had decided that working together is the best option. What could go wrong?

Summary: Inspired by The Owl House, Ben is a young half-witchlet and Rex is a normal human. Rex doesn’t know about Ben’s powers or anything, he just thinks his best friend is really cool! It isn’t until later that Rex finds out, but will this change how he sees Ben? Can a human and a witch be friends?

Also please enjoy this little drawing too, where I tried my best to marry my art style with TOH's for some additional Cody representation. He's too tiny on the main illustration - I bet you couldn't even see him, but he IS there :P

2023 Rules

General Rules

All author, artist, and team check-ins are obligatory, unless otherwise specified. These check-ins are necessary in making sure that everything runs smoothly through the event so that it’s enjoyable for everyone. 

No participants may offer services in exchange for payment or solicit donations/tips from other participants. If you do, you will be disqualified and unable to enter the event again.

Please be respectful of everyone involved. Please communicate openly and clearly with your teammates. If there is an issue, please contact the mods as soon as possible so we can try to find a solution together.

If you’re not having fun, please let us know. Bangs are stressful events, but they’re supposed to be enjoyable and fun. Let us know what pain points you’re experiencing and we’ll see if there is something we can assist with.

Writer Rules

All stories must focus or revolve around Captain Rex, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and their relationship. That relationship may be platonic, queer platonic, or romantic, but it must be the focus of the story.

All stories must be completed by the due date period.

Stories must not be posted before the due date! 

Stories can be co-written.

There should be a reasonable amount of secrecy around your project until artist matches are made to allow fairness for writer-artist match-ups. Please refrain from posting snippets during Six Sentence Sundays, until allowed during the promo period. 

All submissions to the Bang should be new works. Any unposted fic that conforms to the rest of the rules qualifies for this Bang. Prequels/sequels to works are allowed.

WIPs: If you would like to continue working on a WIP, please confirm BOTH these are true: (a) less than 2k words have been posted on Tumblr, AO3, wherever; (b) no further updates will be made publicly until your posting/promo date and the entire work must be posted in its completed form.

Drafts must be submitted as a .doc or a Google link provided (so word count can be verified).

Writers must tag/warn for any of AO3’s major archive warnings, including major character death (MCD), non-con, underage, and graphic violence. You may not withhold major or potentially triggering tags (for “spoilers”) during Art Claims.

Fanworker/Fanwork Rules

Fanworkers can sign up as both artist and writer! (You cannot claim your own work.)

The minimum amount of fanworks per story is 1 piece. If you are a fanworker and choose to claim 3 stories, that means you will need to create 1 fanwork for each story, 3 total.

Fanworkers can claim as many stories as they believe they can handle. Please do not overburden yourselves! We love you and treasure you and do not want to encourage burnout. Please only take on as many stories as you believe you can handle.

Fanworks cannot be published on Tumblr, AO3, etc prior to posting date! We encourage you to share sketches and works in progress on the Bang discord but we would very much like for you to keep the surprise under-wraps.

Fanworks that are accepted (but not limited!) are: traditional art, digital art, manips, banners, icons, wallpaper, gif sets / picspam, vids, podfics, and fanmixes.

Art can be embedded (by the writer) or posted separately by the artist. Please decide amongst each team how each team would like to operate.

Age Restrictions

You must be a minimum of 13 years of age to participate in the Bang event.

You must be 18 or older to submit M or E rated content. Or to beta for M or E rated content.

Content Restrictions

A guide to AO3 (including warnings, tags, etc)

RexObi Bang will not prohibit any content – YOU MUST HOWEVER TAG AND WARN APPROPRIATELY.

When in doubt, rate higher.

Use your best judgement for ratings and tags, but also feel free to reach out to the mods for assistance if you cannot figure out if something should be tagged.

For Art Claims, all fics must include any applicable Major Archive Warnings (Graphic Violence, Major Character Death, Underage, and/or Rape/Non-Con) and any applicable tags from the following list: • Gore, including explicit medical procedures • Omegaverse • Sex involving non-humans or non-human-adjacent characters (i.e. monsterfucking) • Body horror • BDSM • Depictions of mental health issues (trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety attacks) • Depictions of alcoholism or addiction • Depictions of or references to cannibalism • Depictions of or references to necrophilia • Depictions of or references to suicide, suicide ideation, or suicidal thoughts • Depictions of or references to eating disorders • Depictions of or references to abuse (physical, emotional, mental, sexual) • Depictions of or references to animal harm or animal death

For Art Claims: please add in any potentially sensitive topics (ie: clonecest) to allow for better team matching.

About the 2023 RexObi Bang

What is this?

This is a Star Wars big bang event focused on the Clone Wars characters Captain Rex and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Also known as the RexObi ship. 2023 is our very first year, so please be gentle with us!

Okay cool, but what’s a big bang?

A big bang, as described by Fanlore, is:

“A Big Bang (or “Bang” for short) is a specific type of challenge usually involving long fics and accompanying artwork. This type of challenge is a reprise of the old zine tradition of collaboration between artists and writers for internet fandoms.

Most Big Bangs have a similar format: Writers sign up to take part in the challenge and begin writing stories. When the early drafts of the stories are available, each one is assigned one or more artists, or artists might claim stories from posted summaries. Artists create fanart to go along with the story. This art can take the form of illustrations, manips, photo collages, vids, icon sets, etc.”

Writers and artists are both welcome, and you can sign up to be both!

Typically, writers create one fanwork of a minimum word count and artists create art for that work. We have three paths a writer can choose from and, based on that path, an artist (or multiple artists) will create works of art based on their fanwork.

We encourage all types of art–traditional and non-traditional. We encourage both artists and writers to approach this event as an opportunity to collaborate with each other, to create something unique, and to enjoy the act of creation together. Bangs should be fun! Stressful and hectic, but ultimately fun!

Okay, so what are the paths?

We have 3 paths to choose from, which are standard in most bangs:

For writers, your fanwork must focus on the relationship of Captain Rex and Obi-Wan Kenobi, whether it is romantic, platonic, or queer-platonic. They are allowed to be in relationships with other people, but the focus of the story must be on their relationship. So, if a writer wanted to write a CodyWan fic but focus on Rex and Obi-Wan’s time on Kadavo, that would be acceptable. Threesomes are also acceptable.

Any rating is allowed, but your work must be rated.

All stories must be 100% completed by the posting date, or the amnesty period. We have three check in periods, with word count minimums, to check to see how on track writers are (and artists!) so we can spot any pain points in advance and work with anyone who needs it. 

All works (art and stories) must be posted to the AO3 collection. Once the collection has been revealed, stories can be posted anywhere the author or artist chooses.

Beta readers are not mandatory but are strongly recommended.

We require all content to be appropriately tagged.
