Dear Hollywood, please stop marketing your characters as bisexual if you’re just going to disappoint me and cause my own father who is very very gay to tell me that“bisexuality doesn’t actually exist”. Well guess what dad? One maybe bisexual lives in ya house and she’s fired up!!!

Uh, hi. I’m not sure I have much authority or relevance on tumblr but I need to get my anger out somewhere so here I am. This week I have seen not one but two TV shows that have marketed or implied that their main characters were bisexual and then turned around and said nope! As a person who’s been questioning their sexuality for awhile and has (I think) landed on bisexuality, I I wanna see bisexuality represented in the media. I was super exited to have rep in these shows, but didn’t end up getting it. The shows I’ll be talking about are Love, Victor and The Politician. First I’m gonna talk about the lesser, not even evil of two evils which is Love, Victor. I watched the whole show in one day. I loved all the characters, the POC representation was amazing, and it dealt with a story that has been told before, but did it un a unique way. However, when watching the trailer it was implied that Victor had feelings for both boys and girls:

Anyway, in the first half of the season it was sort of implied that yeah, Victor could be into both boys and girls. But they end up making Victor just gay, which is totally okay and the point of the show. However, I am a bit miffed and feel bi-bated, if that makes sense.

Now the one that’s genuinely got me angry, The Politician. If you haven’t seen it, it’s super funny and dramatic and stars the talented legend Ben Platt. His character Payton is sort of “obsessed” with his recently deceased boyfriend/best friend/person, River and although he isn’t the most important person on the show, River helps Payton develop and is responsible for some of his motivations. Their relationship was beautiful and sad and both Ben Platt and David Corenswet said that their kiss scene was one of the most intimate and special scenes they’d ever shot. Both characters on the show loved each other and each had female significant others. Even the AD campaign admitted that these boys are as NSYNC says, bi, bi, bi. This was one of the ads for the show:

Now here’s where things get infuriating. Season two there is a conversation between Payton and Asrid (pictured above) about the boys’ sexualities. The conversation essentially said that Payton and River were straight but just really really cared about one another and wanted to be close to each other. Now let me ask you all, DOES THIS LOOK LIKE TWO CLOSE FRIENDS???

FUck NO!!!! Couldn’t you have just??? Let them be bi???? Anyway, once I fight my way into the industry I will be creating a show all about a bisexual main character and represent everyone who doesn’t feel represented by Hollywood! Please let me know if you agree with me or disagree even, I just wanna have a long talk about sexuality and Hollywood and life. :)

You do realize I’m not real, right?

A Payton x River vignette (I guess? It’s like 400 words, really), because I’m in The Politician hell again. It’s PG-13, ER, hurt/comfort, fluff, post-s1, River lives, IT’S HAPPY I SWEAR.

(English isn’t my first language so sorry in advance if there is anything wrong with the text)

“Oh, no.” Payton stumbles back. “Oh, hell, no, they can’t see me right now, no-no-no—“ He hurries to hide behind River, hands flat against his back, forehead pressing into his nape. River tilts his head back, his lips brushing against Payton’s temple, and whispers, his voice a deep rumble like an actual river rapid: “You do realize I’m not real, right?”

And Payton is suddenly drowning in ice-cold water. It is scalding, and paralyzing, and it hurts, because really, if he tried to count the number of times he lay sleepless, afraid of this exact thing, afraid that the longest, most horrible minutes of his entire life, when he practically sat on River, pushing down with red, wet hands, screaming at him because don’t you dare closing your stupid gorgeous eyes, that it all has been for—

“Oh my god, oh my god, Payton, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, of course I’m here, Jesus, I…” And River’s hot lips are kissing his temple, his cheekbone, his ear, thumb is caressing his jaw, and Payton is out of the water as abruptly as he fell in a moment earlier. “Are you all right?”

“Yeah,” manages Payton, and his voice comes out hoarse for some reason, and River is holding him so tight it’s almost painful, but it feels so damn good. “Please never, ever say that again.”

River presses his lips to Payton’s forehead, and whispers—this time really whispers, without that unapologetically seductive shit he usually pulls: “I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere unless an Apocalypse strikes, you adorable dumbass.”

“That’s me,” Payton scoffs, smiling, and River smiles back at him—and honestly, you can’t be unhappy, much less angry with him, when he smiles at you like that. At least, Payton hasn’t figured out how to do that, and boy oh boy, has he been trying.

“Payton! Barkley! Guys!”

Payton groans, bumping his forehead into River’s shoulder—and River laughs, can you believe it, Payton is being all miserable and he stands here and laughs—and then it clicks: “You did it on purpose!”

River laughs again, presumably at his scandalized and accusatory tone, and takes him firmly by the shoulders, practically pushing Payton into the group of friends, hurrying towards them.

“’Course I did, McAfee is good for you.”

Payton just sighs. Why is he so in love with this little shit, again?
