Every good fandom needs an honorary ’i know the end’ edit that’s just how it works. Please go ahead and direct all hate to @tallmadgeandtea it was her idea I am guiltless (kidding ofc). I fear I will be getting jail time for this and having my editing privileges revoked. But I simply had to do what must be done.
Please watch until the end. I spent my entire spring break working on this and nearly caused my phone to overheat.
i haven’t seen anyone talk about this yet but has anyone noticed the foils of carmy’s mom and sydney’s dad?
carmy’s mom was in the restaurant business (the beef is a family restaurant) and loves cooking (makes christmas dinner every year, nat, michael, and carmy use her recipes), she fully understands the love of making something. still, she can’t show up for carmy and nat when they open the bear. she has a drinking problem and doesn’t acknowledge it, even after her son dies of addiction/depression, even when her other kids need her.
sydney’s dad has no idea why sydney does what she does; he watches her struggle and is so scared for her because he doesn’t understand why she loves cooking. he’s there opening night though, and catches sydney after to affirm his belief in her. it’s alluded to that he had a drinking problem, and he went sober. (fak brings out the italian sodas they had prepped because sydney’s dad doesn’t drink) he’s the only parent she has left, and he beats the odds to show up for her everytime.
i think this is also giving us a really good picture of who carmy’s dad and sydney’s mom were:
carmy’s dad had a gun in his night stand, donna doesn’t talk about him, she goes out with guys like lee who treat her kids like trash possibly because her husband did too.
sydney’s mom is talked about in hushed tones, seen in pictures, as someone capable and strong, honored every year on her birthday. even though sydney can’t have a relationship with her, sydney feels comfort in hearing stories about her and seeing her dad’s love for her.
All i can say is that Turn: Washington's Spies is one of the BEST historical dramas I've ever watched. I loved every single episode of it. The characters, the ambientations, the writing, the soundtrack. Perfect. Just Perfect.
(well, expect for Anna and Abe's drama: i've found it unbearable, even when they already had such amazing patners like Mary Woodhull and Selah Strong)
