Found this really nice olive oil cake recipe in my search for ways to use up fresh rosemary. Just made the cake though, can't speak for the frosting.

This cake was so good!
“Olive oil cake” sounds weird, but - as someone who doesn’t bake a lot - I was intrigued by how simple this looked. Plus it seemed dessert-y but not way too sweet. So when we decided to host some friends for dinner on New Year’s day, I decided I’d serve this to end the meal.
It truly was easy to make. I used oranges off a neighbors’ tree (yay!) and the batter was delectable. The finished cake was light and moist and felt really sophisticated (which two of the picky tweens who joined us for dinner didn’t necessarily appreciate). Will definitely make again... for a dinner of just adults.

[ID: First image is of a golden brown boule studded with blueberries and covered with seeds; second image shows the boule cut in half to show a holely bread with blueberries throughout. End ID]
Rustic no-knead blueberry bread
This is a crusty, no-knead, sweet-savory bread that pairs blueberries with spices and herbs inspired by West Asian cooking. Fennel, anise, sesame, and mahlab powder are reminiscent of the دُقَّة كَعْك ("duqqa ka'k"; cake powder) used in pastries, while za'tar and caraway skew more savory.
The long rise yields a well-fermented dough with a robust flavor that stands up well against the sweetness and pungency of the fennel and aniseed. The result is a jammy, complex, aromatic boule.
This bread has an open, irregular crumb, great for slicing, toasting, dipping, or spreading. Try it with labna and honey, olive oil and za'tar, or a spreadable cheese. I've also made sandwiches with thick slices of this bread and fried, glazed tofu drizzled with tarator and topped with Iraqi mango pickles, to excellent effect.
Recipe under the cut!

Makes one medium-sized boule.
Ingredients:
3 cups (360g) bread flour
2 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp dry active yeast
2 tsp mahlab powder (optional)
1 tsp fennel seed + 1 tsp aniseed, coarsely ground
About 1 2/3 cup water (room temperature)
1/2 cup firm fresh blueberries
1 Tbsp za’tar (wild thyme), crumbled
Additional fennel seeds, aniseed, caraway, and sesame, to top
Mahlab (محلب) powder is the ground-up pits of Mahleb cherries. It can be purchased at a halal or specialty spice store.
Za'tar (wild thyme) can be found in dried form at a halal grocery store. Note that the spice blend, which includes wild thyme, sumac, sesame seeds, and other spices, will also be labelled "za'tar." If you don't have or can't locate any of the herb itself, use any dried woody herb of your choice (e.g. rosemary, thyme, sage), chopped.
Instructions:
1. Making the dough. Measure flour into a large mixing bowl. Add salt, yeast, seeds, and thyme and stir to combine.
2. Gradually add water until a soft, sticky dough forms. You may need more or less than 1 2/3 cup.
3. Flatten dough in the bowl and top with some of the blueberries. Fold the dough to enclose the blueberries, add more blueberries on top, and fold again. Repeat until all blueberries are incorporated.
4. First rise. Shape dough into a ball and place in the bowl seam-side down. Pat the top of the dough with some olive oil and cover the bowl with a kitchen towel. Allow to rest at room temperature for 16-20 hours.
5. Shaping. Gently remove the dough from the bowl and allow it to deflate. Shape the boule by folding an edge in over the center, rotating the dough slightly, and repeating until you have gone all the way around.
6. Flip the ball over so the seam side is down. Place your hands on either side of the dough and then move them down towards the base of the boule, tucking some of the dough under and towards the seam, to tighten the top of the ball. Rotate the ball slightly and do this again, repeating until you've gone all the way around a couple times.
This is the basic method for shaping a boule, lightly adapted to avoid breaking any blueberries. If any of the blueberries start to pop out of the surface of the dough, just press them back in.
7. Second rise. Place your boule on a piece of parchment paper and cover with a kitchen towel. Allow to rise for 1-2 hours, until noticeably puffy.
8. Baking. Place a Dutch oven in your oven and preheat to 450 °F (230 °C). Remove the Dutch oven and place the boule, along with the parchment paper, inside. Put the lid on the Dutch oven and return it to the oven. Bake for 30 minutes.
9. Remove the Dutch oven's lid and bake bread for another 20 minutes, or until the crust is deeply golden brown.
To bake the bread without a Dutch oven, preheat a baking tray in the center of the oven, while preheating a skillet (rated to at least 450 °F) in the bottom; once preheated, transfer the bread and parchment paper to the tray, and pour a few cups of water in the skillet; bake for 30 minutes. Remove the skillet and bake another 20 minutes until golden brown.
Allow the bread to cool completely before cutting into it to avoid creating a mushy texture.

But a neo-pagan sets aside 26 December – 22 January as a month devoted to Hestia.

Prayers•
Historical-
Holy Queen of Sanctity, we hymn you, Hestia, whose abiding realm is Olympus and the middle point of earth and the Delphic laurel tree! You dance around Apollo’s towering temple rejoicing both in the tripod’s mantic voices and when Apollo sounds the seven strings of his golden phorminx and, with you, sings the praises of the feasting gods. We salute you, daughter of Kronos and Rhea, who alone brings firelight to the sacred altars of the gods; Hestia, reward our prayer, grant wealth obtained in honesty; then we shall always, dance around your glistening throne.
For the lost -
Blessed Hestia, the first and the last, and the always flame. May your light burn bright and strong, May your prayers be those of respect and love, May you guide the lost, And give to those who have nothing. I give thanks to you, Hestia, for all that you have done And continue to do.
For people with intrusive thoughts -
I ask Hestia, the kind goddess, to help those who feel down. May they find comfort and peace inside of their homes and inside their own minds. Protect them for their destructive thoughts, and be the safe place they need so much
A prayer for homeles—
In Hestia’s name, may you always have a home and a roof over your head. May you always be comfortable and warm with a full belly. May you always be in good spirits and good company, never knowing the pervading loneliness that envelopes the soul.
Morning
Blessed Hestia, Fill this home with your light and bounty, As the day fills it with golden sunshine.
Evening
Glorious Hestia, Let your hearth fire warm this house, As night draws her shadowed cloak over it now.
Blessings of the kitchen-
Hestia bless my little kitchen, I love it’s every nook And bless me as I do my work, Wash pots and pans and cook. May the meals that I prepare, Be seasoned from above, With thy blessings and thy grace, But most of all thy love

Air's End-of-Year Youtube Video Rec-List Round-Up
In light of recent events and also because I wanted to, I have put together a rec list of various (mostly longform) videos that I've enjoyed this year. Not all of these videos were released this year, however-- I just happened to see them for the first time in 2023. For readability and quality of life purposes, I have put this list under a readmore and divided the videos up by category, then creator, which means that some youtube channels might appear in multiple categories
I reserve the right to edit this later as I remember more videos, but I feel comfortable publishing it as is, considering it has almost 100 videos on it at this point

2024 Attic Calendar - January

Currently working on my own version of the adapted Attic calendar! So far I only have January, but February is almost done as well. Fair warning, this goes in depth about what the festivals/celebrations are and how to commemorate, so this post is gigantic. Attention: This is for the SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE!

⛧ [10/01/24] [Hekatombion 40th] - Hekate Deipnon
WHAT IS IT & WAYS TO CELEBRATE: It takes place at the end of the Lunar month. Hekate means "bringer of light", so at the darkest part of the month, we prepare our homes for the transition to a new month and offer her a meal. Think of it as a mini new year; clean/cleanse your house (especially altars), get rid of things you don't want to bring into next month (physical, spiritual, etc), and leave Hekate an offering at sundown (preferably a meal, but if you can't afford to waste food, just give her something else. Maybe bury or burn it if you can). Here's a list of good offerings (best left outside or at her altar, if you have one for her):
Bread
Cake (especially lit with candles)
Pomegranate
Wine
Honey
Cinnamon
Milk
Chocolate
Roses
Lavender
Poppy seeds
Dandelions
Incense (Frankincense, Lavender, Jasmine, Citrus, Dragons blood, Rosemary, or anything you have at hand)
Keys
Candles
Tea lights
Bones
Fire/Bonfire
Oil lamps
Crow/Raven/Own feathers
Poetry, Literature, Music, Hymns, etc
Tumblr media
⛧ [11/01/24] [Metageitnion 1st] - Noumenia
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: The Noumenia is the first day of the visible New Moon and is held in honor of the household Gods. The Noumenia is a celebration of the start of a new Hellenic month and seeks blessings for the household. Honestly? You can just kick back and relax if you want or can, to invite calm energies into the upcoming month. But, if you (like me) want to be a little extra, here's some ways to celebrate:
Start a new personal project or hobby, or just pick back on things you've been putting off.
Set intentions for the coming month, and make plans for any of the month’s upcoming festivals, or for any of your personal upcoming plans.
Leave offerings for your deities.
Moon/stargaze, maybe meditate under the Moon.
Do a reading with your preferred divination method with the Theoi, asking what you should focus on in the coming month.
Tumblr media
⛧ [12/01/24] [Metageitnion 2nd] - Agathos Daimon
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: One of my favorites! Daimons are household spirits that look after you and your family, so this is a day to honor Him! Pour a libation (especially wine, but mine likes milk better to be honest), make an offering, light a candle, maybe even make Him a lil altar! He's heavily associated with snakes, but aside from that you can offer (or put in His altar) anything you correlate with abundance, good luck, protection, etc. These guys are so overlooked and I love them. Here's a more in-depth post about Him and the holiday.
Tumblr media
⛧ [13, 14, 16, 17, 18/01/24] [Metageitnion 3th, 4th, 6th, 7th & 8th] - Athena, Aphrodite/Hermes/Eros, Artemis, Apollo, Poseidon
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: Not exactly festivals, that's why I compiled them into one section, but these Lunar days are sacred to these deities in that order. Maybe leave them an offering or light them a candle, maybe even just devotional acts! Here's a good list of offerings for each:
ATHENA
Owl feathers/imagery

⛧ [25-27/01/24] [Metageitnion 15-17th] - Eleusinia
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: The Eleusinia was a thanksgiving festival held to honor Demeter for the gift of grain. A modern way to celebrate is to have a big dinner (maybe include some breads and baking) and give thanks to Lady Demeter through it! Thank her for grain and the agricultural processes that we benefit from!
Tumblr media
⛧ [28/01/24 ?] [Metageitnion 18th ?] - Adonia
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: A festival mourning the death of Adonis, one of Aphrodite's human lovers. Traditionally, it was celebrated only by women (as a trans guy, I personally don't give a fuck and celebrate it anyway). Also, there's no source for an exact date, so this is an educated guess at best (most sources just refers to it as taking place "midsummer"). For a way to celebrate, I found this amazing hymn/poem. Remember to honor Aphrodite on this day as well.
Tumblr media
⛧ [30/01/24] [Metageitnion 20th] - Hera Telkhinia
WHAT IS IT & HOW TO CELEBRATE: A minor sacrifice for Hera, taking place in the suburbs of Athens. Again, not a lot of info, but if you worship or have a connection to her, maybe read her a hymn, pour a libation honor her on this day! Here's a Orphic hymn to her:
Hera, incense aromatic herbs and spices. You are seated in a cerulean cavern, having the form of air,    Íra queen of all, happy one who shares the bed of Zefs, You provide gentle breezes which sustain the soul. Mother indeed of storms, attendant of the winds, all-begetting. Apart from you life and generation cannot be found;    Mingled with the majestic air you partake of everything. You alone hold sovereignty, ruling over all. You are the stream which flutters down through the rushing winds. And now you, happy Goddess, many named, queen of all, Come with a countenance of kindness and joy.

Fantasies
Tumblr media
Summary: You discover that Andy has been harboring a secret fantasy.
Warnings: Secret Fantasies, Smut, Kink Discovery, Lactation Kink, Hand Jobs, Slightly Dominant Reader, Minors DNI
A/N: Prompt is courtesy of my friend @stonerlaur4. Part of my Growing Pains Series. Thanks for reading everyone and I look forward to your feedback. All mistakes my own.
___
“You’re doing it again.” You tell him from your spot opposite him at the dinner table. The girls were down for the night, which meant that you and your husband were finally able to share some quiet time together.
You’d even cooked up a special meal for you both to enjoy. Homemade crab cakes with a your special remoulade sauce, paired with crispy roasted garlic rosemary potatoes that had been slathered in butter and olive oil, along with his favorite cucumber, tomato, and onion salad.
Your Big Man smiles at you as he takes another bite of his crab cake. “Doing what?”
You roll your eyes and go back to eating.
“Is my girl blushing over there?”
Exasperated, you duck your head to hide your flaming cheeks. “No. And it’s certainly not because you keep looking at me the way you are. So cut it out.”
Andy leans back in his chair and graces you with a perfectly innocent smile.
“But honey, they’re just so beautiful. And they’re right there, just begging for my attention. What kind of man would I be if I denied them like that?” His mischievous blue eyes stray back to your chest.
At five months pregnant with your twins, not only were you most definitely showing, but your breasts continued grow on what seemed like a daily basis.
And just like with each of your previous pregnancies, your husband was fascinated with your increasingly ample chest. Just like with all of your other curves, he was always looking for any excuse to put his hands on you - kiss you, massage you, stroke you.
But there was one thing about Andrew Barber that hadn’t made itself known until after the birth of your first child, Bianca.
He loved with watching you feed your babies. In fact, you could almost say he was obsessed with it.
You had been blessed enough to be able breastfeed both of your little girls without having to resort to formula unless it was an emergency.
And while you’d fed both your girls throughout the day whenever they were hungry, their bedtime feedings always took place in bed with you snuggled next to your husband.
In the early days of taking care of a newborn BiBi, he would often ask if she was “getting enough”.
You had laughed before encouraging to lean down and listen for himself. So he had. Your big, sweet husband had held himself suspended in the air listening intently to each tiny gulp as his baby girl ate her dinner. But it hadn’t stopped there…
You would eventually learn that your husband craved more.
___
A Little Over Six Years Ago…
You stare down at your precious baby who had fallen asleep in your arms after nursing. Smiling, you smooth a stray curl from her tiny face as she coos out a tiny breath.
For some reason, BiBi hadn’t eaten as much as she normally did. She usually took both breasts with ease, but when it had become time to shift to her to the second one, she had flat out refused.
Andy emerges from the shower clad in nothing more than a pair of black, form fitting boxers. He quickly slides into bed next to you. Today had been a late one at the office, so he’d only just gotten home.
“Is she still eating?” He asks hopefully.
“Afraid not, honey. We’ve lost her to baby dreamland.” You lean over and kiss his shoulder.
Mmm…your man smelled good. Like sandalwood and vanilla.
“Aw. Well, did she at least eat well?” He strokes one large thumb across her little lips.
“Nope. She only took one breast tonight. Guess that means I’ll be pumping.” Your tone filled with resignation.
It wasn’t that you hated pumping…you just sometimes kind of hated pumping. But hey, it brought relief, so oh well.
You smile over at your husband. “Wanna help me put her down?” You ask him.
“What kind of question is that?” Andy hops out of bed, gently plucks her from your arms and gazes down at her. “Swear to God, this little one grows more beautiful everyday. Just like her Mama.”
He shakes his head as if to clear his thoughts.
“Bedtime ladies.” He murmurs softly. Resting your hand on his firm, broad back you make your way to BiBi’s nursery where Andy places her in her crib.
“Good night, little love.” You whisper to her slumbering form.
“Sweet dreams.” Your husband tells her, before stepping back to check under crib.
Oh God, you think to yourself, not this again.
“Andy…” You resist the urge to laugh at him. He does a complete scan around the room. And then he quietly opens her closet door and checks inside.
Yes. He was checking your child’s room for monsters. Just in case.
“All clear.” He tells you, his face completely serious. You hold your hand out to him. “You’re a lunatic.
“You knew this when you married me, Y/N. So no givebacks.”
___
Once your back in your room, Andy climbs into bed while you go about grabbing the supplies you needed for your pump.
“What are you, um, doing over there?” He leans over on his side to face you, his sexily bearded face propped up on his hand.
You give him a weird look. “You already know what I’m doing, Andy. I have to pump. If I don’t, is gonna get painful or start to leak or…
You trail off when you realize that yep…you were already leaking. “See?” You point to your left breast.
Andy’s gaze zeroes in on the slowly dribbling fluid. He’d always been too afraid to ask, but tonight…
“Baby?” He whispers softly.
“Hmm?”
“Can I maybe? Is it okay if I, um…”
“What?”
A warm hand goes to your still slightly rounded belly as his mouth goes lap at the drops of the translucent milk. And he doesn’t stop until he’s licked you clean.
Pulling away, he looks you in your eyes.
“Sorry, it’s just, um, I had always wondered what it tasted like - sweet by the way. And Laurie always thought I was weird for wondering but -“
“Hush.” You cut him off. “I’ll admit you took me by surprise, but…do you wanna try it? I mean really try it?”
“You’d let me?” His eyes stray back to your swollen bare breasts. This had always been a fantasy of his…
You scoot to the middle of the bed and motion for him to kind of curl up in your lap. Picking up your full breast, you offer one engorged nipple to his mouth, which he eagerly accepts.
“Okay, Big Man. Now, I need you to suck.” He gently begins to do so. “Apply a little more force.” You gently massage and squeeze your breast, hoping to aid in the flow.
And then you hear him swallow. “Are you getting any, Andy?”
“Mhm.” He groans as he takes another gulp. And then another.
You stroke your fingers through his dark brown locks, softly scratching his scalp, which makes him moan in bliss. As one hand continues to cup the back of his head, you allow the other to roam all over his big, muscled body. You stroke every inch of bare skin that you can reach as he continues to suckle at you.
This felt so different than the intimate moment when you fed your child. It was for sure a bonding experience.
But in it’s own unique way, so was this.
“Taste good?”
He nods, never letting up. His eyes remaining closed. You stroke a hand across his chin. And then you take note of bulge in his boxers. You knew, that he knew, that you had to have noticed it. Your man was the type who was big all over -
How could you miss it?
Not wanting him to feel embarrassed, you reach down to cup his impressive erection, giving it a light squeeze. His own large hand moves to cup yours.
He keeps suckling, never letting up. At this rate, you wouldn’t need the pump.
You gently begin to stroke him, applying various amounts of pressure each time. Andy was seconds from exploding and you both knew it.
His pull at your breast becomes harder as he gets closer to the brink.
“That’s it, Andrew. You’re safe with me, Big Guy.” He lets out a soft grunt. “Cum for me. Wanna see it.”
That’s all it takes for him to shoot his load directly into his shorts. After a few last suckles, he releases your nipple with a pop.
“You okay?”
Your husband nods still trying to catch his breath.
“You’ve been holding onto that fantasy for a long time, haven’t you, honey?”
He nods again, shame creeping into his features.
“Oh no! None of that. Like I said, you’re safe with me. Plus you’re not the only one who got a little excited here.” You dip your hand between your thighs and hold up two glistening fingers.
“You never have to be ashamed with me. Now go clean up. Now that you’ve, err, helped me out. I’m sleepy and I need cuddles.
Still blushing, Andy rolls out of bed to take care of business.
Well, it looks like your Andrew Barber was just full of surprises.

Note
obviously you can’t cook don’t know what a blog is etc etc. but in a universe where you did would you know of any recipes your alternate self posted which used leftovers or scraps? or alternatively making really good stock? many thanks
hm. if I ever cooked I think I would say something like—take
the peels, ends, and greens (if you haven't used them for anything else) of carrots
the ends, leaves, and outer stringy bits (if you're one of those people who peel them) of celery
tomato skins
mushroom stems
peels and trimmings of onions
peels and ends of garlic
skins and trimmings of ginger
the whites of green onions
stems of fresh, tender herbs (parsley and cilantro)
stems of woody herbs (thyme, rosemary), in moderation
trimmings from leeks, turnips, and fennel, in moderation
And simmer in enough water to cover for about an hour, with herbs or whole spices if you'd like (I generally include bay leaves, black or white peppercorns, cumin seeds, and coriander seeds), then strain. You can keep scraps from preparing meals over the course of a few days or weeks and freeze them in a bag or other container until ready to make stock; make sure each bag has a good proportion of different vegetables. Frozen scraps will only take 15-20 minutes of simmering to make stock.
Make sure that you scrub any vegetables whose peels you will be using for stock thoroughly. Scraps can be used for stock if they are wilted, but not if they are rotten.
Various places online will give you different ideas of what to include in stock and what not to bother including (there's a pretty comprehensive list here); as you do this over time you will no doubt have your own opinions about inclusions and ratios. Do not include cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower) as they will make the stock unpalatably bitter. You may chuse to divide scraps in terms of what meal you plan to make with the stock (e.g. leave ginger, lemongrass, galangal peels &c. for an east Asian meal rather than, like, an Italian one).
Other things that can be done with "scraps":
The whites of green onions can be simmered alongside kombu/dashima when making Japanese dashi or Korean yuksu. Also reconstitute dried shiitake mushrooms in this stock to get flavourful mushroom water in the stock + reconstituted mushrooms that you can slice, boil, fry, &c.
The whites of green onions can also be used to make shiraga negi, a Japanese garnish
Thai recipes often involve leaving the peels on garlic when chopping or pulverising it. I'm not sure how the skins on Thai garlic compare to other varieties so your mileage may vary.
Garlic and onion peels can be dried in a dehydrator or an oven on low (~200F) and then ground to add savor to bread, soups, rice &c. Basically use it like garlic powder
Cauliflower and broccoli stalks can be peeled, sliced and roasted (along with the leaves) at around 400F (200C) for 20 minutes or so until browned and crispy with olive oil, salt, and spices of your chusing, then dipped in ranch or garlic sauce (for a quick vegan ranch I mix vegan mayonnaise + grated garlic + a squeeze of lemon + pinch of salt).
Kale stems can be pickled, or sliced thin, sauteed, and added to stir-fries and soups.
The inner core of cabbages (which some recipes call for you to remove) can also be minced and added to soups.
Orange, lemon, and grapefruit peels can be used to make mixed peel; apple peels and cores can be used to make apple jelly. These recipes aren't really something-for-nothing, though, as they do use a lot of sugar.
Also orange peel tea. Sometimes when making mixed peel I drain the water after five minutes of simmering and drink it as tea, then replace the water and continue simmering as the recipe calls for.
Some Medditerranean cake recipes involve (perhaps soaking and then) blending an entire orange, peel and all--look up "whole orange cake."
When not making mixed peel, I (remove the pith from and then) dry orange and lemon peels to grind into zest and store it to use as needed. A friend of mine saves the pith, too, and dries and grinds it and uses it to replace some of the flour when baking.
South Indian & Latin American recipes sometimes feature the peels of bananas or plantains—look for banana peel curry/thoran.
Various recipes can be found for banana peel pulled pork and banana peel bacon; banana peel cake; banana peel tea.
Starch left from rinsing rice can be used to thicken soups and stews (this is common in Korean recipes).
The water left from cooking dried beans can be used in soups and stews, or in cooking future batches of beans.
Make sure that anything you're eating or boiling has been washed well.
I— I'm. uh. huh. that was weird, I don't know what came over me...
