サイエンスカフェ「KARUIZAWA SCIENCE NIGHT カブトムシの角はどうして大きいのか？ −生きものの不思議をひもとく『進化』の話−」を3月22日に軽井沢で開催しました。自分にとって初めてのサイエンスカフェでしたが、ありがたいことに定員を超える方々にお越しいただく盛況でした。 https://wildtokyo-jp.tumblr.com/post/744735456599605248/ 今回はカブトムシの角を主役に（蛾もたくさん出しました）、「進化」の視点から自然を見る面白さと、その不思議を探り続ける生態学・進化学の魅力についてお話しました。集団内の遺伝子頻度の変化という進化の重要な定義からはじまり、自然選択の基本、群選択の否定など、進化について誤解されたくない、でも一般的にはちょっと難しいと思われていそう概念を選びに選び、伝え方に工夫を凝らしましたが、子供たちを含む参加者のみなさんから次々に飛んでくる鋭い質問・コメントにたじたじとなりつつ、必死で頭を働かせる2時間。講師がただ教えるセミナーではなく、参加者との対話を大切にしながら話し手の側も思いがけない気づきを得られる「サイエンスカフェという形式」の面白さを、私も味わうことができました。アンケートからも「進化についての概念が変わった」といった反応をたくさんいただき、手応えのある科学コミュニケーションの試みになったと思っています。 ぜひまた開催したいです。 お越しいただいたみなさま、そして開催を快諾いただいた＆準備等で大変お世話になった、PUBLIC BAR 中軽井沢の藤原 みちるさん、改めてありがとうございました！

科学の専門家と一般参加者が、飲み物を片手に科学について語り合う、そんな「サイエンスカフェ」と呼ばれるイベントは、科学コミュニケーションの一つのあり方として近年注目が集まっていますが、自分の初めての試みを軽井沢の PUBLIC BAR で開催することになりました。

生物の「進化」の不思議を知ると、自然や世界を見る眼がこんなに面白くなる、そんな生態学／進化学の魅力をわかりやすくお話しながら、参加者のみなさんとディスカッションしていけたらと思います。
