Chapter 1: The starfleet fight
Warnings: fight with parents
"Jonella," my father's voice resonated through the room with a sharp firmness, "I understand your passion for joining Starfleet, but it's not just about you. It's about upholding the legacy and values of our family."
Desperation tinged my plea as I responded, "I am upholding our legacy. It's our greatest legacy that everyone wants to forget. But Dad, this is my calling! I've dedicated years to preparing for this moment. I can't just abandon my dreams." My arms frantically waved as I spoke.
"Your dreams shouldn't come at the expense of tearing our family apart." His words struck me like a physical blow, a stark reminder of how much had changed between us.
We used to be so close, sharing dreams and aspirations. But now, it felt like we were strangers, divided by conflicting desires and expectations.Turning to my mother, I sought support, hoping she would understand.
"Mom?" I said, my voice cracking.
"Jonella, dear," she said gently, attempting not to take sides like she always did, "I do want you to follow your dreams, but your father has valid concerns about your safety and the impact on our family."
“Jonella, if you leave this house, don't come back." The weight of his words hung in the air, suffocating me with their implications.
I wanted to make him understand, to bridge the gap that had formed between us. But it felt like an impossible task, like trying to hold onto smoke slipping through my fingers. As they left the room, tension hung heavy like a suffocating fog. The weight of their ultimatum pressed down on me, forcing me to confront the most challenging decision of my life. It wasn't merely about my desires; it was about the storied legacy of the Archer family.
Since Admiral Jonathan Archer, the first captain of the USS Enterprise, an Admiral and a president of the United Federation of Planets, our ancestor, the family had refrained from joining Starfleet, feeling unable to match his towering legacy. I loved the stars, science, and engineering. My destiny lay among the cosmos; I felt it in my very being, and I hoped my father would someday understand.
“Jo?" Jack's voice was sad and quiet as he interrupted my thoughts from the doorway.
I turned to see my fourteen-year-old brother standing there, his expression a mix of sadness and uncertainty. His eyes, usually bright with mischief, now held a weight of concern that mirrored my own.
"Hey, Jack," I said, offering a smile, though it felt strained on my lips.
“Are you really leaving?" he asked, his tone heavy with apprehension and concern."I'll be back to visit, but Starfleet is my calling, Jack," I replied, pulling him into a tight embrace as he ran into my arms.
"I'm going to miss you, Jo," he whispered, his voice barely audible against my shoulder.
"I'll miss you too. We can still talk while I'm gone," I reassured him, feeling a pang of guilt for leaving him behind. "Do you want to come with me to tell Ellie?"
"Yes," he nodded, his eyes still downcast as he stepped back from our embrace.
Together, we walked to our nine-year-old sister's bedroom, the hallway feeling longer and more ominous than it ever had before.Ellie was engrossed in a book by the window, her face lighting up as we entered. Her innocence and joy were a stark contrast to the heaviness that weighed on my heart.
"Jon! Jack!" she exclaimed, excitement evident in her voice as she jumped up from her seat.
“Hey, El. Can we talk for a minute?" I asked, motioning for them to sit down on her bed.
"Jo has some news," Jack chimed in, his voice barely above a whisper.
"What is it?" Ellie asked, curiosity gleaming in her eyes."I got into Starfleet," I announced softly, the weight of my decision settling heavily in the room.
"Yay!" Ellie cheered, her enthusiasm contagious. "That's your dream!"
"Yes, it is, El. But it means I'll be gone for a while," I said, her excitement faltering as the reality of my departure sank in.
"I know, but we can still talk, and you'll visit, right?" she asked, her eyes pleading, her small hand reaching out to grasp mine.
"Of course, El," I assured her, squeezing her hand gently. "I'll always be here for you." As I looked into her innocent eyes, I felt a renewed sense of determination.
Despite the rift that had formed between my family and me, I knew that my dreams were worth pursuing. And maybe, just maybe, one day they would understand too. But for now, the ache of leaving them behind pierced my heart like a knife, a reminder of the sacrifices I had to make to follow my calling.
As the days passed, the weight of my decision grew heavier, like a stone dragging me deeper into uncertainty. Each moment spent with my family felt like a precious treasure, a fleeting glimpse of the life I was leaving behind. Despite their reservations, they supported me as best they could, masking their own pain behind forced smiles and encouraging words. But beneath the facade, I could see the cracks forming in our family bond, the unspoken fears and doubts threatening to tear us apart. My father's stoic demeanor hid the turmoil brewing within him, while my mother's attempts to maintain peace only highlighted the underlying tension.Jack and Ellie, too, struggled to come to terms with my departure. Jack's once vibrant spirit dulled with each passing day, his usual mischief replaced by a somber silence. Ellie, ever the optimist, tried to hide her sadness behind cheerful chatter and bright smiles, but I could see the pain lurking in her eyes whenever she thought I wasn't looking. One evening, as we sat around the dinner table, the silence grew oppressive, suffocating us with its weight. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, my father spoke, his voice strained with emotion.
"Jo, I know we haven't always seen eye to eye on this, but I want you to know that I'm proud of you. You're following your dreams, and nothing could make me happier, even if it means letting you go.
"Tears welled in my eyes. "Thank you, Dad," I whispered, my voice choked with emotion.
my father’s voice broke the heavy silence once more.  “Jo, I owe you an apology,” he began, his words measured and heartfelt. “I spoke out of fear, out of a desire to protect you, but in doing so, I realize now that I hurt you deeply. I’m sorry for telling you never to come back if you leave. That was wrong of me.”
Tears welled in my eyes as I listened to his words, a weight lifting from my shoulders with each syllable. “Thank you, Dad,” I managed to choke out, my voice thick with emotion. “I forgive you.”
He reached across the table to clasp my hand, his grip firm yet gentle. “The door is always open for you, Jo,” he said, his voice steady with sincerity. “No matter where life takes you, remember that this will always be your home.”
A sense of relief washed over me, mingled with gratitude and love for the family who had supported me through it all. With renewed resolve, I vowed to carry their words with me, a guiding light in the darkness of the unknown
 "I love you."
"And I love you, Jo," he replied, his voice breaking. "Always."
The following days passed in a blur of bittersweet moments, each one etched into my memory with painful clarity.
On the morning of my departure, as I stood at the threshold of our home, my family gathered around me, their expressions a mix of pride and sorrow.
"I'm going to miss you, Jo," Ellie said, her voice trembling with emotion as she threw her arms around me.
"I'll miss you too, El," I replied, holding her tight. "But we'll see each other again soon, I promise."
Jack stood beside us, his eyes red-rimmed with unshed tears. "Take care of yourself out there, Jo," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I will, Jack," I said, pulling him into a hug. "You take care of Mom and Dad for me, okay?"
With one last embrace, I turned to face my parents, the weight of our impending farewell heavy in the air between us.
"We'll be waiting for you to come home, Jo," my mother said, her voice wavering with emotion.
"I'll come back, Mom," I promised, blinking back tears. "I promise."
With that, I gathered my bags and stepped out into the unknown, leaving behind the safety and comfort of home for the adventure that awaited me among the stars.

Chapter 4: The Captains Communicator
Warning: CAPTAIN PIKE is his own warning
My first shift on the Enterprise proceeded smoothly. Chief Engineer Hemmer assigned me a list of routine repairs to handle aboard the ship. As my lengthy shift drew to a close, I headed to the bridge. The captain had reported issues with the communicator in his ready room. Upon entering the bridge, all eyes shifted toward me. "At ease, everyone. I'm here to fix the communicator in the captain's ready room," I announced, eliciting chuckles from most of the crew, including the first officer, though Lieutenant Spock merely raised an eyebrow. “The captain is in his ready room, Lieutenant," the first officer informed me, to which I nodded in acknowledgment before proceeding. Entering the ready room, I was taken aback. Captain Pike sat at the table, engrossed in his PADD. Seeing him in person was unexpected; he was remarkably handsome .“Captain Pike," I said, trying to project confidence. He looked up slowly, offering a smile that caused my heart to skip a beat. "I'm Lieutenant Jonella Archer. Admiral Ramirez spoke highly of you," I continued, extending my hand. Pike smiled warmly, rising from his seat to shake my hand. "Yes, I was wondering when I'd get the chance to meet you. Luis has mentioned you. May I ask what brings you here?" he inquired, and I felt a blush creeping onto my cheeks. "Your communicator is malfunctioning. Hemmer sent me to repair it," I replied, attempting to steady my voice. "Of course, please proceed," Pike replied, settling back into his seat to resume his reading while I got to work. As I worked on the communicator, I couldn't help but steal glances at him. There was something about him that made me feel like he was more than just a captain. The air in the ready room carried a faint scent of ozone, a reminder of the malfunctioning communicator. The soft hum of the ship's systems provided a comforting background noise, occasionally punctuated by a beep from the console. My fingers delicately navigated the circuitry, the cool metal beneath them sending shivers down my spine. Pike's presence filled the room with authority, yet there was a warmth to him that eased the tension. I felt safe as if I had known him my whole life. His voice resonated with experience and wisdom. The soft glow of the console illuminated his features, casting intriguing shadows across his face as he read. Every glance exchanged felt like a silent conversation, a mix of anticipation and uncertainty. Despite the task at hand, my thoughts wandered, drawn to the enigma of Captain Pike. His presence was magnetic, drawing me in like a moth to a flame. With each passing moment, I found myself more captivated by the man behind the rank, longing to unravel the mysteries beneath his stoic facade. As I completed the repairs and tested the communicator, a sense of accomplishment washed over me, mingled with a hint of regret at leaving the captain's side. With a final nod of satisfaction, I turned to face him, meeting his gaze with a mix of apprehension and curiosity ."Communicator's fixed, Captain," I announced, my voice tinged with reluctance. “Thank you, Lieutenant. I'm hosting a crew dinner tonight at my Quarters at 1900 hours. Would you like to join?" His invitation took me by surprise. Dinner with the captain was a significant event. “Yes, I would love to come. What’s the dress code?” I asked, feeling a twinge of nervousness. Pike smiled. “Ask someone on the bridge,” he replied. Pike's smile illuminated the room, leaving me with a warmth that lingered long after I left his side. When I returned to the bridge, I asked the navigator about the dress code, and she mentioned a formal dress uniform. I chuckled at the thought. Did she think that I was that stupid? As I made my way back to Engineering, the memory of the captain and our encounter replayed in my mind, leaving me yearning for the next opportunity to be in his presence once more.
