Here's the full artwork of my Suit Up t-shirt for @dota2ti The International 2017. I initially wanted the shirt color to be navy/coffee/charcoal but they went with black instead. Still ok I guess. Anyway, it has come back online again on Valve Store. They also added women shirt. Get Paid to Travel: Amusement Park Edition
Confession: I’m a secret shopper. For about 11 years now, I’ve been enjoying restaurants, movie theaters, spas, and theme parks for FREE (and getting paid a few bucks on top!) in exchange for my honest opinion about the establishments.
It’s not easy work. You have to show up on time, take some sneaky pictures, and have pretty good observational and writing skills. But there is no way I would be able to go to Delux Studio Tours ($$$!) or fancy hotels without this weird side hustle.
The company I’d like to talk about today is Amusement Advantage. They specialize in aquariums, bowling alleys, studio tours, and yes - the big, expensive amusement parks that your kids are always going to.
I’ve been working with them for just under a year now, so I will run through pros and cons:
Pros:
You don’t need any experience, so this is a great entry-level Secret Shopping company.
They pay on time.
They are one of the only companies I’ve come across that specialize in amusement parks
Sometimes they will let you keep the cover of the tickets as a payment, even if you already have a membership. Some clients won’t allow this, but when it happens, it’s really great extra money.
Their writeups are relatively easy (1-4 hours) compared to some of the premium secret shopping sites I’ve been on (3-6 hours.)
The schedulers I’ve worked with have been nicer than some of the other companies I’ve worked with.
Once you build up your reputation, they will let you self-assign dates/times.
You can pretty much start right away. Once you sign up here, you’ll fill out a brief application and a recruiter will contact you in 24-48 hours.
Their referral program is more generous than any other Mystery Shopping company I work with, paying $20 for each person you refer who completes their first shop.
If you are not interested in secret shopping, they often have positions as Schedulers and Editors.
They are a national company in the US, so you can plan your vacation around the shops <----This has saved my family soooo much money.
Sometimes you can double-up shops, i.e., sign up as a mystery shopper for the arcade as well as the bowling alley next door and the park across the street. Doing these circuits can actually earn you much more money as they are time efficient.
Cons:
Their website is just hideous (sorry, guys!) Honestly, every time I log in, I cringe because the interface is just so ugly.
They send sort of a high volume of opportunities that go really fast.
Their opportunities are sent from the same e-mail address as the schedulers, so there is no way to set a filter on your inbox to filter actually important messages directed to you specifically vs. the ones sent to the mass list. I recently shut off all of the opportunity e-mails (under your profile) and focus mostly on
They don’t have huge payouts (usually between $5-$50)
Their last-minute “bonuses” for emergency shops are heavily promoted but are usually only $2-5, which can be a bit insulting for Pro-level shoppers who are used to bonuses more in the $30-$75 range from other companies.
It seems to be about 50/50 on whether or not they will cover a guest. Given that their reports take over an hour, I think it’s a bit cheap of the clients/company to not consistently allow guest reimbursements, especially since it’s easier to be identified as a shopper when flying solo.
Since they are very popular, getting the dates you want can be fairly competitive. This does change, however, when you do consistently good work and build trusting relationships with the schedulers.
Overall, I really like working with Amusement Advantage because I get opportunities to visit attractions that I normally could not afford. I select my jobs based on how much I would have saved on that opportunity vs. how much they are paying out as a bonus.
If you decide to work with Amusement Advantage, please consider using my referral link to help support this blog (and to potentially expedite your application, since my account is in good standing with them.)
Happy Shopping!
