Y’all. Are you ready for story time? So my Polish Couchsurfing host asks me if I wanted to go to his mom’s house to have traditional Polish food. Ummm… Yes! Of course! He then tells me they’re having Żurek and not everyone likes it and it’s an acquired taste. Okay. Bring it on. I’ve eaten 4 servings of yogurt for lunch in one sitting because that’s the healthiest thing I could find in the countryside. It can’t be THAT bad. I meet my friend’s mom, his sister and her husband. The table is set, an extra plate for me. I sit down, and everyone watches me as I try this soup. I lift the spoon, scoop a spoonful and place it into my mouth. They ask me if I like it. I don’t react. You know when dogs are confused and cock their head to the side? That’s what I did. And I said I really didn’t know. The flavor profiles I like are salty or sweet. I don’t like things that are bitter, sour or tangy. And this soup was ALL those things. I tried more, several spoonfuls more to determine if I liked it. After about the 8th spoonful, I decided I didn’t like it, but it was edible. So I loaded my soup with potatoes and eggs to drown out the flavor of the soup and finished it. Even more edible with less soup to solids ratio. I mean, I wasn’t going to lie and say I liked the soup when my face clearly showed I didn’t. But the family was chill about it and we laughed about it. They even asked if I wanted seconds and I said Nooooo Thank you! Haha We don’t have to like everything we try, but at least we can be open to new things, trying them once and deciding from our personal experience whether something is for us or not. Something about myself🤷‍♂️ I had a very good life in my home country Finland. Friends, money, hobbies, freedom, parties and a job that I liked. Life was easy, safe and stable. Almost hedonistic without any concerns. Future looked good financially, emotionally and spiritually. I was going closer to that American dream life. In April this year, I quit my job, sold my shares, sold my apartment, car, furniture, bikes, clothes and everything else that I owned. Why? Puente Brooklyn - Viaje a Estados Unidos Este puente une los distritos de la isla de Manhattan y Brooklyn, los cuales son parte de la ciudad de Nueva York y por ello era anteriormente conocido como el puente de Nueva York y Brooklyn. Fue construido entre los años de 1870 a 1883 y en el momento de su inauguración fue el puente colgante más grande del mundo. Su longitud es de 1825 metros y fue el primer puente suspendido sobre cables de acero en Nueva York, lo cual lo hace un emblema de la ingeniería del siglo XIX. Desde su inauguración se convirtió en uno de los iconos de la ciudad de Nueva York y de Estados Unidos. Desde el puente se tienen unas vistas maravillosas a los rascacielos que se encuentran en la isla de Manhattan. El puente se puede visitar tanto a pie, como en bicicleta o automóvil, según sean los gustos del turista y sus intereses. En mi opinión, la mejor manera de visitar el puente de Brooklyn es andando; recomiendo que la caminata se empiece desde el distrito de Brooklyn y así poder pasar sobre el puente hasta llegar a la isla de Manhattan.
