while I am slightly horrified to admit I actually know all the black mage ability names now, I'd still like to propose an alternate naming scheme. not one that clears up all the conflicting numbering issues, oh no, one that more fully encapsulates the raw blm vibe. so here we go:

fire i, iii = fuck you i, iii

fire iv = fuck you in particular iv

fire ii = fuck y'all ii

high fire ii = fuck all of y'all ii

flare = fuck everyone in this chilis tonight

despair = (no, this one we're keeping as is)

blizzard i, iii = juice i, iii

blizzard ii = full juice alchemist (high blizzard ii *in another voice* = full juice alchemist)

freeze = with hearts aligned

blizzard iv = the power of heart (goooo planet) iv

paradox = by your powers combined!!!!

thunder i, iii = you know that I ain't braggin', she's a real pussy wagon, greased lightnin'  

thunder ii, iv = you are supreme, the chicks'll cream, for greased lightnin'

scathe = please stop trying to wall to wall dzemael darkhold

i'm probably missing something bc i'm only level 60 on blackmage but are you supposed to clip your gcd for things?? the guide i'm looking at says to sharpcast thunder and throw in a manafont in your astral fire but?? idk when?? am i just supposed to pray that casting fire 1 will give me a firestarter for after my 3 fire 4s?? ley lines seems pretty important but where am i supposed to weave it?? or is my dancer brain going "ogcds used without the gcd rolling is FORBIDDEN" just wrong??

And before anyone points to themselves and says “why, yes, I play Black Mage, I am in fact valid”, you are probably not who I am talking about.

I’m not talking about the Black Mage that has the class unlocked, I’m not talking about the Black Mage that’s 6th or 7th in the emnity ladder, I’m not talking about the Black Mage that thinks Ley Lines is their only tool, this is not about you.

I’m talking about these actual supersoldiers, these high-end solo-queue Black Mages that show up to your 83 ex or 89 ex or pande savage that are pumping out numbers that would make any abacus in the room catch on fire and that consistently stay the fuck on top of the damage ladder, with their only drops being repositioning, these ludicrous beasts of logic and pulchritude that can outplay chess computers and have the perfect Sharpcast, these incarnations of shooting stars that deemed your little Party Finder worthy of their optimal upkeep no Fire IV rotations with perfect adaptability and fight knowledge. I mean THOSE Black Mages that eat scrap metal and shit out stainless steel. Those terrifying creatures. Those are valid.
