Head’s up to others who use the “Shinigami Eyes” extension!
At this time (Oct 13, 2022), Shinigami Eyes DOES NOT WORK on tumblr blogs that are “dashboard view only”!  It doesn’t even let you flag blogs that are only viewable in dashboard either, and will only give you an error message if you try.
There are already lots of TERFs and radfems taking advantage of this hole in the extension’s functionality.  Hopefully the devs for it will patch this issue soon, but until then, take a second glance at reblog-comments that have suspicious urls and listen close for the usual dogwhistles; it’s still all too easy for a transphobe’s remarks to go viral when passed around on otherwise decent posts.

Heyo! So as some folks have noticed its gotten harder to mark blogs red on shinigami eyes. I've found some ways around it, thought I should spread the word.
Most blogs, when you pull them up on your dash, will have @(username) / (username).tumblr.com under their header. On these you can right click on the (username).tumblr.com bit and mark them as pro/anti-trans. Their urls might show up red/green on posts, possibly depending on where you view it. I think they always have a red/green outline to their profile pic, but I'm not sure.
Some blogs have turned this feature off, so under their header it will only say @(username). For these blogs, go to the circle button with the ellipsis in it. On blogs with these settings turned on, it will be next to the 'send a gift' and 'send a message' buttons. Click on the ellipsis button, and at the top it should say Archive. you can right click on that, and it will let you mark as pro/anti-trans as usual. Unfortunately, their urls won't show up red/green in posts, so in order to check you'll have to pull up the ellipsis menu.
Some blogs have Archives turned off, so the option won't appear in the ellipsis menu. I'm trying to see if I can find a way to tag them regardless, and will update the post if I do.
UPDATE: Found the setting that determines if blogs can be marked or not! Turns out if you have "enable custom theme" turned off, you can't be marked, because you dont have a (username).tumblr.com page OR an archive! If you're a trans ally and want to make sure your blog can be marked green, make sure this setting is turned on!
I found out about this setting through this post, very grateful it crossed my dash :]
Update 12/5: FANTASTIC NEWS! Tumblr appears to have unfucked itself!
As of 12/5 Shinigami Eyes appears to be working as intended on Tumblr again! Would love if someone else could corroborate on this but it seems Tumblr changed something that makes the extension work again!

Also did recently learn that the Shinigami Eyes extension is a bit dated and has a problematic history. Apparently, it has some anti-black bias, such as labeling a black-owned trans organization as transphobic when it very much is not.
Luckily the people that have been labeled transphobes by the filter on Alex Saxon's follow list have been more than willing to prove that they are worthy of that descriptor and the many others they have collected
I am on the lookout for an alternative. Let us know if you know of one. I'll be more than happy to switch to a more trustworthy one.
If you have used it based on our recommendation, please be careful about the people that have been deemed red. Just in case there are a few misfired bullets if you know what I mean.

i just lost two followers and it's making me laugh because judging by my most recent posts i assume they were diehard royalists? or at least people holding the british royal family in an unusually high regard? cry about it i guess idk, i do find it funny that you give a fuck though
on this note though of my followers holding different beliefs than me - if you're a terf? please kill yourself! i don't usually give a fuck because i just don't have it in me to start a war with everyone i disagree with but like. truly. if you hold any kind of prejudice against trans people whatsoever. fuck off from my blog lol i don't want you here

The Shinigami Eyes extension is actually funny because, while the stuff that's marked often makes sense, sometimes you'll be browsing a random Wikipedia article and see someone highlighted in red, and you'll be like "Oh no, who could it b-"
Tumblr media
Like, thank you Shinigami Eyes. How else in this great-big world was I ever supposed to know that Adolf Hitler was not a trans ally?!?!?! Mind-blowing revelations in the studio, today.

guys please get the shinigami eyes browser extension. there are so many seemingly-innocuous posts spread around from transphobic accounts, but that wouldn't happen if you could see their bigotry at a glance

this might sound silly but what is shinigami eyes?
It's not silly at all! Shinigami eyes is an extension on Chrome and Firefox (and Android, but it's experimental) that lets people mark transphobes on social media as red, and mark trans allies as green. It makes it much easier to tell at a glance if someone is safe or unsafe to follow or interact with. It also makes it harder for cryptoterfs (transphobes who pretend to not be transphobes) to hide, because if someone finds them out they can be marked red and then everyone will know.
It's been an absolute lifesaver for me as a trans person on tumblr! It works on "Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr, Medium, YouTube, Wikipedia articles, search engine results and all the sites with Disqus comments."
Unfortunetly Tumblr updated in a way that makes it harder to mark blogs, but there are some work arounds (will add reblog with link to post) and I'm working to find more. I highly, highly recommend it to any trans person or trans ally who wants to get better at recognizing and avoiding transphobes :]
Here's it's page, it has more details and links to downloads

a heads up to young people or people who've just not encountered this before but it is a very frequent and common thing for terfs and radfems to have "terfs/radfems dni" in their abouts/pinned. "dni's" are essentially useless, at best they're just meaningless virtue signaling and at worst they're actively used to hide ops bigotry
they do this specifically to lure people into a false sense of security so they can slowly feed them terf rhetoric without them noticing in order to slowly radicalize them. this is a known tactic that terfs have been using for years now. they're called crypto-terfs and they specifically hide their beliefs in order to trick people because they know that being openly a terf is not tolerated in most spaces these people will often say things like "u can use whatever pronouns and name u want, but biological sex is real" or "i support trans people but womens shelters and bathrooms need to stay afab exclusive. its just about biology" "lesbians are attracted to vaginas, u cannot be attracted to amab people and call urself a lesbian" "he/him lesbians do not exist, if u use he/him pronouns u are aligning urself with men and masculinity and cant be a lesbian" they will also often have lesbian seperatist views, this is the belief that afab lesbians do not have much in common with the wider queer community and should seperate themselves out and close in amongst themselves for protection. they have a very "us and them" mentality where they encourage distrust of other queer people, saying things like "the wider lgbtq+ community is obsessed with men. as someone who wants nothing to do with men i feel ostracized among them. the only place i feel safe is with other afab lesbians" "bi women cannot call themselves gay" "we have nothing in common with other gay women"
these things are gateway arguments that lead down a line of biological essentialist, racist, and conservative thinking and seek to normalize those thoughts and arguments in order to indoctrinate more people to their hate group. its very important to be mindful of these things and not just trust that because someone has "terfs dni" in their about/pinned/card means that they are automatically a safe person to be around and are trans inclusive/positive
