nikolai easily catches onto your plans, especially when it concerns messing with fyodor.

he's thrilled at the realization that you were doing this on purpose, knowing the reason fyodor was looking so distressed lately was because you were refusing to entertain him even for a moment. though you never asked him to help you make him angrier, nikolai would never miss an opportunity to make the unmovable fyodor dostoevsky tremble in anger or burn with jealousy.

the best part of his plan, as he pitched it to you, was that none of this was anything new. you've always liked nikolai for his unabashed honesty, and for how unafraid he was of you. it was nice to be treated as something real, human, even. which was why you've always entertained his silly tricks and gestures, even if it meant he was splayed out on your lap and rambling about something you couldn't care all that much about. he's ready to play it up even more; if only to get on fyodor's nerves.

but it hadn't occurred to fyodor that you'd treat anyone else any more warmer than you treated him.

a strange mix of frustration, shock and a tinge of envy is all you can make out when he comes in as usual only to find nikolai wandering around your room, eagerly telling you all about his plans, and you're actually responding with "yes, nikolai," and "that sounds fun," and "i'd love to see that sometime."

here you were, having a conversation with the clown when you only ever looked at him like one would view a bug. and when he walked into the room, you didn't even spare him a glance, opting to politely clap when nikolai brings out more books from his coat.

sigma, too, had earned your favor.

it wasn't on purpose, at least not at first. sigma is hard to dislike, and harder to ignore. not when he's obviously seeking you out for help. he relies on you more than you think he should, and develops a strange attachment to you. this, too, fyodor notices. and he also notices your lack of a reaction to the fact.

the man who was merely another pawn in his plan had found himself a place by your side. a place where he could talk to you casually and you'd respond, often with some form of advice. you didn't ignore him, didn't glare when he lingered for a moment longer than he should, didn't scowl at him for talking to you or looking at you. it was everything fyodor yearned to have with you, even if he forced himself to be satisfied with the meager offerings he had now

it was quite clear that you were playing favourites.

fyodor is above whining or crying, but he wasn't just going to accept the situation. for one, he sends nikolai away and keeps sigma busy with the casino. and then, he considers changing his approach. was it his plans you disliked? but when nikolai told you all about his homicidal plans, you nodded along, never once complaining. then, was it him you disliked? he thinks back to your initial meeting—you had seemed a lot calmer, then. a lot more receptive to his ideas. you were curious about him, at least, weren't you? so was it the way he treated you that you disliked? the huge distance and enormous respect, the impossible expectations he had of you. or maybe, you just didn't want to play god in his plans. except...he couldn't have that. not when everything he was doing was for you, your lost glory, your forgotten name.

if you knew that he'd do anything to earn back your favor, then, would you finally spare him some time?

even with your years of watching people, you had yet to see someone like nikolai.

despite his claims that his motives were perfectly clear and that you should be able to understand him perfectly, he always seemed, to you, like a puzzle missing its final piece. what was that piece for him? was it the morality he lacked? when you asked him that, though, he told you that he liked to think he was a puzzle with too many pieces—sentience when everyone else lived like puppets, desire greater than any other, and so on. how could you complete an anomalous puzzle, with no real final picture?

"tell me," he once asked, voice uncharacteristically somber, eyes gazing down at his blood-streaked hands, "can a human become a god?"

it occurred to you then that nikolai was only trying to run from something. something that made him human, something he hated. you think back to the times when he told you he wanted to be free, wanted to stop feeling. was that the extra piece he couldn't get rid of?

still, he was kind to you. or at least as kind as he could be, between jovial, teasing comments and moments of unfiltered rage. he called you his friend, but he said that about fyodor too, and a few nights ago he was trying to convince you to kill him.

"can a god die?" at your questioning look, he added, "can you?"

"i'm not sure. i haven't gotten that close yet," you admitted "but i suppose for a god, being forgotten is as close to death as they can get."

"i won't forget you," he smiled, but the gesture was far from reassuring when his eyes glimmered with something bright.

you wondered if you had unintentionally sparked something in him. you even considered the possibility that you'd wake up the next morning to find him with a knife at your throat. if he was determined to kill fyodor to achieve what he thought was pure freedom, who's to say you won't be next? knowing nikolai, it was easier to believe that he was a monster, a creature of pure evil, bloodthirsty, and seeking to haunt. but things were never that simple. there were times when your heart ached for him, wondering why he had to go down this path. and those times, you truly felt useless, wondering if you couldn't do anything even in your position.

now, you wonder, if it was your sympathy that made you weak.

"it's not fair. i won't forget you," nikolai sighs, "even if anyone else will. but you'll live on even if i'm not here and you'll forget me."

you wish to tell him that you won't, but in your current position, bleeding out at a rapid pace from numerous wounds and head spinning, you can barely handle the pain, let alone move your dry lips. you remember that nearby you is fyodor's body, cold and long dead. it was almost cruel how the closest you'd ever felt to being human was when you were dying.

"hey, but you're a god!" he must have thrown his hands up, from your memory of him, but nikolai's voice grows shriller, though you can't tell if it's from excitement or panic, "you'll come back, like that thing you mentioned before? reincarnation! and you have...powers..." you could tell instinctively that he was looking over at fyodor's corpse.

you want to tell him that you aren't sure. you've never been much use, even as a god. you've always liked being a human more. maybe you will come back, but likely not, and you definitely can't save fyodor anymore. you don't think anyone can. but the words escape you as your vision goes black. the only thing accompanying your dying body was a warm hand on your cheek and nikolai's incoherent mumbling.

sigma, admittedly, was your favorite. you saw a little bit of yourself in him and his desire to find his purpose. but most of all, you liked his determination, his unwavering resolve. it was nice to see how he ran the casino so perfectly, and you thought his position complemented him well.

but unlike nikolai who was easy to sling an arm around and drag out or fyodor, who was always ready to listen to any word that came out of your mouth, sigma was a little harder to get to. he was always working, cleaning up after the other two's messes, and keeping his customers happy. always on the go, and it was getting harder and harder to catch him. the only times he seemed to be able to listen to you was when you caught him staring out the balcony at the world below the casino, only accompanied by the moonlight. he was always gentler then, softer, but more solemn. it was during one of those nights that he finally asked you something.

"so, you're really a god?"

you awkwardly shuffle, "yes. i know fyodor is a bit too enthusiastic about it, but i really can't do much anyway. i'm more like...the remnant of what i used to be."

"is this how the world looks like to you?" he asks, looing at the tiny blinking lights below.

"it's...overwhelming. the world is so big and full of life, and i've never felt like i was a part of it. i love being around people more than anything, but i'm always reminded that i'll never be like them."

sigma stiffens up, still not meeting your gaze, "you're looking for it too, right? to feel like you have your own place here..."

and then, for the first time since you met him, he smiles, "at least we have each other." you smile back, not realizing he took it a little too seriously.

despite your differences, you were just like sigma—maybe that was why he liked you so much. sigma knew all his customers by heart, slaving away to memorize each face and the mannerisms behind it, their likes and dislikes, just to design an ideal experience for them here. all he ever had was the sky casino, and he was aware of just how easily it could be taken away from him. because of this, it wasn't anything unusual to see sigma meticulously studying each of his guests, observing them closely, and noting down his thoughts. maybe that's why you never suspected anything when he stared at you for far too long, something other than a sense of duty burning behind his eyes, something unlike his usual concerns dominating his mind. maybe that was why you didn't mind his new interest in you, stepping in to drag you away from nikolai and boldly insisting to fyodor that he needed to talk to you.

if only you had said something then, you wouldn't have to face this situation; sigma on his knees, pleading for you to stay, to not follow fyodor out of the casino again. you might stay away for weeks, he insisted, and it wouldn't be safe. all he had was you, so please, don't leave with him. and looking at the pain in sigma's eyes, you already knew it wouldn't end well if you didn't comply.

As for Sigma I think he would be one of those souls that died and they cannot really do anything beside wander on Earth. He probably has amnesia about the life he had (maybe it is for the better). Fyodor and Nikolai Just Picked Him Up And Were Like What An Interesting Artifact. So now he is stuck with them. Perhaps he sometimes picks up stuff Nikolai knocked off to annoy you. (When it was Valentines he 'accidentally' smacked doors into Nikolai's face because he came with flowers. He forgot Nikolai can just float thru the doors and Gogol to this day pokes fun at him for being jealous while Sigma loudly proclaims he is not jealous. He quiets it down when he sees you. Perhaps he wants you to know he hwas jealous.)

sigma is the long awaited companion you need after having to deal with a house full of demons, and their irritating antics.

for one, he's actually helpful (and not just a burden), offering to clean up after the others when they decide to show up and mess around and is pretty good at keeping nikolai distracted, preventing him from wreaking havoc on your house. he's easier to have around in general, polite, considerate, and most importantly, gentle. he seems to have a better understanding of humans, never pinching and prodding like dazai or nikolai and always ready to help when you're sick or injured. he's good at it, too, surprisingly knowledgeable about any ailments you suffer from and eagerly nurses you back to health with your favorite soup prepared already.

what you don't see is that sigma isn't all that different from the others. he doesn't whine when you focus on your work or irritate you for your attention, instead opting to get his way through other means. you don't think sigma's to blame for the absolutely horrendous day you had, with strangers accidentally spilling drinks on you and tripping over thin air, your papers at work suddenly in a disarray and other misfortunes. in fact, sigma's the one whose arms you fall into the moment you step inside, exhausted and frustrated by all the happenings. he's the one who strokes your head and listens to your sobbing, the one who wipes away your tears and promises that things will get better. the one who convinces you, in such a vulnerable moment, to quit your job, promising to help you until you find a better job (in his eyes, that's one that gives you a smaller workload). you don't even consider the notion that he was behind the mishaps, completely forgetting the fact that he can become invisible when he wants to, and chooses to show himself to you.

you're thankful for the space he gives you, unlike the others who constantly keep an eye around you when they're in your home, but you don't realize that he never actually leaves, choosing to lurk in your home and linger in your room much after you think he's gone, concealing himself, and watching you go about your day. it's why you sometimes come out the shower to find something missing, or changed, though you never think much of it.

you easily fall into his side when the others gets too much finding comfort in his calm presence. sometimes, when you notice him sitting by himself when everyone else clamours around you, you dash over to his side, quickly slipping into conversation with him. nikolai watches with an unreadable expression, rolling his eyes at your obvious ignorance. he won't be the one to break the news to you, though, it'll be more fun to see you come to the realization yourself. but sigma has measures in place to make sure you'll never find out. after all, he had nothing else but you, and he'd make sure that he won't lose you.

Tuna, messed up idea, but imagine thriller buddy cop comedy turned full blown yandere horror with: scapegoat! Darling based on the serial killer au. Darling just has terrible luck and gets pinned all the murders and worse thing? they wake up one day, covered in blood, in a strange place with the cold corpse of a red headed man. It takes a while for the implications of what happened to hit them and they later find out they now have mutiple abilities. Abilities they never had before. Or! maybe, this is a crappy isekai au with bad end! serial killer reader. sigma 🤝 isekai scapegoat darling - 🦄 (im thinking about random ideas too much while i should be finishing other wips and ideas.)

manga spoilers below regarding the unknown doa members and a future part of the doa's plan :) i took liberties with the extent of the book's abilities so. don't question it hfhfh

in the same universe as sk reader, but this time, reader is a stranger who has been brought into the bsd world as a pawn in fyodor's new plan. here, fyodor has broken out of meursault already. fyodor centric but implied sigma x reader and nikolai x reader

cw: murder, dark isekai, death, start of an obsession, manipulation, kind of dehumanization of reader, fyodor is Evil.

let's say things were not going according to plan. the hunting dogs had found the coin bombs in the casino, and now all eyes were on sigma and the associated members, mushitarou was out and working with ango and the ada, and the port mafia had seemingly come to help the ada too. it would only be a matter of time before kamui's identity was revealed, and that would destroy everything he's worked for thus far.

it would be easy to do as kamui says and unleash bram's infection across the population; it would only take weeks, if not days, for the virus to spread with kamui's ability in hand. but fyodor disagreed with his decision. no, there was a better way to do things. all he needed was time to distract the public and get everything back on track. if kamui's identity was revealed now...it would throw the world into chaos, yes, but not the kind he needed.

this called for his last resort.

though he hadn't told anyone, there was a little more than a side of a page left blank in the book. on the written side, he had intentionally left a very part blank on the offchance that things would stop going his way. kamui was unaware. of course, but that was for the best.

the first order of business was to ensure ango sakaguchi was dead.

his ability would prove to be too much of a hindrance since he could use it to find kamui and the others. with the information he had, he could somewhat be certain of where ango was and what he would be doing.

under the moonlight, he writes, ango sakaguchi walks down the alleyway, believing himself to be alone. suddenly, there's a strange sensation at the back of his neck; he considers turning around to face his pursuer and slowly reaches for his gun. but it's too late. the minute his hand reaches for the handle, something pierces his chest...

he can almost feel the words coming to life, twisting reality. fyodor smiles to himself as he finishes writing the last line; besides the corpse of ango sakaguchi, a person awakens. in their hand is a gun, the bullets of which match the ones inside ango. he writes about the blood splattered newcomer methodically cleaning up the scene and disposing of the body and evidence.

this person's ability allows them to take the ability 'discourse on decadence' for themselves.

it's a little bit harder to alter history, to make it so that the deaths of numerous ability users before were a result of his new subordinate's work, and give you all the power you need to be useful to him. he has to write down all the details about the deceased users so that there are no discrepancies, has to ensure the crime scenes are cleaned up but with enough clues so the implication is clear. there is a serial killer loose in yokohama, one that has been targeting ability users for almost a decade now.

the special division wouldn't be surprised that ango had become a victim; it made sense because he had been strongly involved in the case for a while now, but this also made it a priority. files about the sky casino were put on hold, and now the terrorists of the armed detective agency and the serial killer were the priority of the government.

it's funny; the special division thinks that the serial killer is working with the ada, which is why you were not caught despite the agency being aware of your presence all this time, and the ada believes you to be working with the doa. they would all be running in circles, chasing their own beliefs, with no consideration of fyodor's involvement.

nikolai brings him updates; his pawn is in a constant state of confusion and shock, and still unable to use your ability as it was intended. you're plagued by nightmares, too, and still afraid of everyone. he chides fyodor for not writing you to be a calm, composed person, so you would continue your work as fyodor intended you to, but he only had so much space. besides, he tells nikolai, pawns can be trained, too; like pets. all he needs is to offer you a home, an identity, and a life—just like he offered sigma—and you'd be eating out of his hand. what did it matter to you, after that, if a few more lives were lost as long as it guaranteed your own survival?

he arranges for documents to be made; for you to have your own job and home so that there's no suspicion about your identity, arranges for nikolai to surveil you closely and watch out for the eyes of god, lest you're caught by fitzgerald, and for sigma to gain your trust. he himself comes to let you know about all the abilities you have and helps you wield them easily

it's a shame. on paper, you were the perfect pawn—but you're too weak to act on your own yet. he doesn't mind the extra time spent, however, and he coaxes you into targeting mushitarou, whose ability would be extremely useful, but your hands still shake even when he places his over yours and directs the gun for you, and you still cry when you see the blood pooling out of mushitarou, folding in on yourself with shallow breaths. you still tremble when he asks you to use your newest ability.

you're still sniffling when he pets your head and suggests you clean up, and though you go quiet, he can tell you're still haunted by your actions when he looks at the glossy emptiness of your eyes. even after all this time, you still look conflicted when he praises you for a job well done.

it doesn't matter what you feel right now, anyway. fyodor smiles to himself when he catches sight of you slumped up against sigma, watching the other go through his customer files, because he would never let you leave. you don't have anywhere else to go, or anyone else to turn to. nobody would accept you like they have, and you knew that; even if you were so terrified that your hands froze over the trigger or you can't pull the knife out, you'd still force yourself to do it if he asks.

[possible manga spoilers] thinkin about yandere meursault girlies... dazai/fyodor/gogol/sigma all in one package. unfortunately no chuuya he seems a bit. you know. busy.

let's say darling is a security guard at meursault, specifically set in the surveillance room at overlooks dazai and fyodor's cells. its kinda boring (it's not like theyre going anywhere, right?), but they try to take it as seriously as possible- even when the "highly dangerous criminals" are speaking in wingdings or throwing eggs at each other. they try not to engage with these male manipulators but one thing compounds on another and they find themselves holding down the intercom button, catching both of their attention. oops. at first the fellas are just happy they have a new toy to play with, someone to fuck with and make squirm since they can't do much to one another. dazai spends most of his time trying to bug darling til they crack and say something while fyodor plays his mind games. until it becomes more. red flags pop up over time, dazai throwing mini tantrums when the intercom clicks off or a different guard is on duty, fyodor starting to probe about weirdly personal topics, there's this weird Look they have in their eye when darling talks, etc. it becomes tough to deal with, more so than usual. theyre actually kinda relieved when they both suddenly disappear, unaware that a certain clown has been put on their scent. (sigma becomes yan after bonding with darling about how much it sucks dealing with the other three lol)

regardless of whether or not it was intentional on darling's part to communicate through the intercom, their fate is sealed the moment in happens. whether they mutter out a confused "what the fuck...?" (because who could watch that scene and not be left perplexed?) or even if they just remained shrouded in bewildered silence, the tell-tale buzzing would give them away, they've piqued fyodor and dazai's curiosity.

obviously, they had been expecting to be under heavy surveillence, considering who they were, but something about that moment of vulnerability, that little slip in what should have been hours of procedure drilled into darling's head, captured their attention. had a newbie been sent to watch over two of the most unpredictable prisoners here?

it doesn't help that they immediately switch off the intercom right after, further proving to the two that it was a mistake. a mistake that no guard here would make. in a place filled with stoic, intolerable idiots, darling seems to be the exception.

naturally, they become attached.

he guesses whenever it's your shift, and makes sure to loudly blabber about everything on his mind. the food sucks. he misses his old room. it's too hot. his outfit's ugly. anything to get back such a reaction from darling again. he even asks for fyodor's help, but the latter ignores him, choosing to stare straight at the camera he knows they must be looking through.

eventually, darling gives in. whether it's because they've had enough of dazai's taunting or fyodor's staring (and that creepy smile) or perhaps the two have taken to bothering the people working the other shifts and darling feels pressured to end the torment. it will happen eventually, and when it does, things only get worse.

apart from the tantrums and constant whining from dazai, fyodor's unnerving stare at everyone that isn't darling seated behind the cameras begins to concern the other guards, especially coupled with the way dazai starts murmuring ways he could kill someone. when darling's there, however, he's a lot more friendly, asking them where they'd like to go for a first date and if they'd like any presents. he's just curious, really! not like he's planning anything... and fyodor, with his weird questions about abilities and ability users and sinners—maybe darling would prefer to stick with dazai's line of questioning.

thanks to his correspondence from the outside, dazai has the help of a time stopping ability user. his first order of business? use his 10 minutes to find everything he can about darling. after that, he hunts down the other guards, and makes sure to use his time wisely by spending a good chunk of it with darling. the first time he sees them face to face, even though they're frozen in place, his heart soars. he's definitely taken advantage of this period to touch darling and hold them close. even fyodor can't have this.

but when the day comes that he finally plans to break out of the prison with darling in tow, he's horrified to find them missing. back in his cell, he sees fyodor with a mysterious smile and a proposition he can't say no to.

by the end of the day, the two are gone, and darling's in the debatably safe arms of nikolai gogol, wrapped securely in his overcoat.

with nikolai, at first, it's just genuine curiosity. who was darling to have the great dostoevsky wrapped around their little finger? he follows them around (as ordered), looks through their room and picks out some things to keep (not an order, and definitely not for dostoevsky), threatens to twist their leg off with a shockingly innocent smile if they didn't come with him (also not an order, but who's keeping count?) but if darling is clever enough to keep a bright smile on when nikolai comes to play and does as he says without much struggle, he's a pretty fun person to have around. oh, that and he wouldn't be handing them off to any of the others just yet—not until he's had his fun with his cute little friend.

even then, he'd be surprised that darling hasn't bored him yet. it'll take one defiant glare or an unexpected trick to really make him understand why everyone's losing their mind over darling. now that he thinks about it, it's totally not fair that he had to do the work of finding them only to give them over to others. time to see if fyodor is willing to share!

sigma is used to not being acknowledged before he was the manager. more than that, he's used to nikolai's crazy antics. or so he thought, until one day the clown drops in with a brush of his coat, darling in his arms.

"assistant!" he cries out, to sigma's irritation, "meet my friend here!"

despite darling's obvious discomfort, they manage a strained smile at him. the gesture touches him immensely, and it tells him all he needs to know. when he introduces himself and darling says "hi, sigma," he feels euphoric. he feels seen.

he learns that darling was tormented by fyodor and dazai, after which nikolai was sent out for them, and while a large part of him feels sympathetic, knowing better than anyone else how horrible those three could be, a smaller, but darker part of him seethes in jealousy. why did fyodor have to see darling first? why did fyodor get to have them? why not him?

didn't he deserve, at least, this?

still, sigma soon earns something the others can't yet boast of having—their trust. darling's initially wary smiles turns into rambling and them opening up about their feelings. he doesn't flaunt it much except in the offhanded remarks that tells everyone just how much he knows about darling. they believe him to be the hardworking manager, who, much like them, was here because he had no other choice. little did they know...

once dazai and fyodor finally come back to the casino, however, the little peace darling finds here will be gone :(

then theres the meek merman sigma who is too cautious to actually approach darling so he is stuck watching from afar

and then merman nikolai whos a little shit and probably makes darling fall into the water for shit and giggles. has no idea how to show affection and thinks "gentle" bullying is the way to go. in general he just loves to scare darling and sees nothing wrong with it

alrighttt hello! very sorry i was a bit busy with school related stuff but i'm finally able to get to your ask :>

cw: yandere characters, obsessive behavior, stalking, theft, nikolai (he's unhinged and needs his own warning)

akutagawa is always on the hunt for something to gift darling! since he's far too shy to actually talk to them, this is one of the only things he van actually do. at first he sticks to leaving things for them at a spot where he knows they'll see, like if they live near the water he might leave it nearby so they would know it's for them, and continue doing that for a while until either darling decides to wait at the spot to see who was leaving these little trinkets or he decides it's time to introduce himself. once it comes to a point where he can openly hand it over to them, he does so awkwardly slow just to be able to hold your hand for a little while, brush over your fingers, which were nothing like his. honestly it makes darling a little bit uncomfortable. it'll probably take a much longer time for him to open up to you more than this though (and at this stage i wouldn't say he's like full blown obsessed yet)

MERMAN SIGMA IS SUCH A CUTE IDEA OMG hes so cute i want to squish him anyways he's super super shy but more so if he's less merman and more sea creature (like dazai lol) because he's self conscious about his appearance knowing he looks nothing like darling's human companions and the thought that they might find him scary or unappealing torments him every day. obviously he can't help the way he looks, but he still yearns for their attention and affection. what he can do is watch darling for hours on end, hoping his observations would pay off in a situation where they might need his help, after dropping something into the waters, perhaps. because of how shy he is, it'a likely he would 'team up' with another mer (im eyeing nikolai maybe?) to get darling.

nikolai...is 100% more chaotic as a mer. unlike most of the rest he's the one to actually approach darling on his own, befriending them after convincing them he means no harm. he still roughs darling up a little, not afraid to tackle them or crush them into him when they get in the water. he would frighten them just to see them jump and push them into the water, pocketing their things just to keep as a souvenir when they're distracted trying to climb back to shore. he, like dazai, makes a lot of comments about dragging darling down to the bottom of the ocean, keeping them with him forever, etc. but if darling asks if him if he's serious, there won't be a response. he's unfiltered, but even he knows he should still hold back a little so he won't completely throw darling off.
