Just a little teaser for the next Etsy update which is going to be Thursday Feb. 16th at 5pm ET. Going to have two types of bat mugs 👀, restocking of old critters, revamped critter designs, and some new friends that I’ll be revealing shortly.

Also starting with this update will be removing free shipping with orders over $35. This was a hard call, but I have never really truly factored in the shipping costs with the price of my little doodads, and as I start expanding into shipping items larger than smol cows, chickens, and dragons, it is quickly becoming apparent this is the way I need to go. My apologies for the extra costs this will incur in a world already filled with them and also thank you for all the support and for the international orders that were already paying quite a bit in shipping to see little friends cross the globe. I am making my way towards firing the Gas kiln. Today I was working with the gesture of hand writing. I was not transcribing an actual poem or words, although I did experiment with what happens when I write words fast as if scribbling. I noticed how the shapes of my marks shift. Working like this is one step more abstract than when I transcribe a specific poem through ash or clay and then print it on the surface of a plate. I painted on white paper bags to find the nature of the mark I was after. I must have painted a dozen images and drawn a bunch more small sketches and then finally committed the gesture to the clay. After I finger painted through the slip I cropped my favorite part of the painting out of the bigger slab and once again I was reminded how working bigger than my final plate is so important to the energy of the line.

There was a little volunteer maple tree sapling in our front yard that we had to remove due to potential interference with the sidewalk. It made us super sad, so we saved some leaves to preserve in clay. So in addition to my usual seasonal grape leaf flatware pieces(which I haven't started yet oops), I'm making some maple leaf pieces as well! Also there's a mountain ash plate because I had extra space on a slab.

Also! A certain little pigeon seems to have taken an interest in clay! Gaze upon his beautiful artwork which he added to the bottom of one of my bowls while I wasn't looking. I had to give him a chunk to play with or risk more bird art on the rest of my work lol. I might fire some of his stuff, just cuz aww.

First official glaze firing of mine and student work. We are working with older glazes that we aren’t even quite sure where they came from. This studio is set up to mix glaze from scratch, which is something I’ve never done. While I see lots of room for improvement, considering I came into this with almost zero ceramic experience, I’m not too disappointed!

ok well my body has decided to make me take a break from ceramics for a lil bit this week but Its been a good excuse to spend some lazy evenings with my synths. I think i'll keep it easy the rest of the month and not push myself to make a whole lot of stuff, I don't have ma-ny ideas for ceramics lately any ways. Sucks cause i'll miss out on a decent commission but I know that person will just buy something from me later on at some point anyways but i've got inventory for at least one vending event right now so if I end up doing any shows i'll be fine.

#i joke about my wonky shaky hands & my bad knees but then my body says fuck you and makes my shoulder. elbow. knee. wrist. and fingers hurt #but when im having joint pain issues its really hard to do most of my hobbies cause its mostly in my hands :/ #and with shoulder pain I can not do clay cause i can't lift the bag cant move the slab roller out and cant wedge so bleh
