Just like American boxart Megaman, western devs thought Japanese high school girls shouldn’t be used as heroines because that’s just dumb, so they replaced Athena with whoever this is.

had the warrior program continued the stagger between shifter terms would have been so weird thanks to marcel and ymir and tbh grisha, start years as of the end the RtS arc:
beast (ksaver -> zeke): 842
armored, female, most likely cart: 844? i think, could also be 845 but we don't know when they were all on that campaign where they wiped out a country
attack and founder (grisha -> eren): 845
jaws (ymir -> porco) and colossal (bertie -> armin): 850
warhammer: ????
so the overlap between porco and zeke's terms would have only been five years(!!!); if colt inherits the beast, porco would work with him for longer than zeke, 7-8 years, and porco would be the weirdly oldest one of a batch of warriors who are mostly falbi's age which sounds.......... very lonely (@mochalate probably stuff you've thought of already), not as dramatic a gap as zeke's 8-9 years on RBA, but probably made more dramatic by the difference in their term starts moreso than their birth years, i'd see him and colt as war chief and vice war chief
even more implications and questions:
it may just be because we're with reiner and falbi for most of the marley arc, but no one seems concerned with "who will inherit the cart??" even though zeke, pieck, and reiner all inherited their titans within two years of each other
it's possible ymir and porco held the jaws for almost exactly the same length of time depending on what months we think RBA's attack on shiganshina and eren's attack on liberio take place
frieda also inherited the founder in 842 (snk 64), a point for the zeke-frieda parallels agenda @meare-hisu

Gaming Spotlight #11: Digimon Rumble Arena (2001)
Tumblr media
Hello this is Larsa here with another spotlight feature on a game you may have missed from the Playstation era. Stand up to the fight!
Before we get to our featured title let's review some history shall we? Super Smash Bros 64 came out in the year 1999 developed by HAL Laboratory, INC. This revolutionary game was inspired by the dream match concept of SNK Corporation's own popular "King of Fighters" series where a bunch of a existing characters are thrown together to duke it out. Many in the industry took notice as the success of the new Nintendo crossover fighting game which created many fans of a whole new genre, platform fighting games.
Tumblr media
"Digimon Rumble Arena" or "Digimon Tamers: Battle Evolution" as it is known as in Japan would become one of the first early platform fighting games following in the giant shadow of "Super Smash Bros 64" to stand out as a game worth playing. Right away a fighting game based on one of the most popular anime series of the late 90s and early 00s just seems like a perfect pairing. By the time this game was released Digimon had firmly became a massively popular series already having a theatrical movie release worldwide and currently airing its very popular third season titled "Digimon Tamers". Right away the opening would blow the minds of any young Digimon fans at the time because it was essentially a Digimon dream match title starring the Digimon and tamers of the first three seasons slugging it out for digital supremacy.
Tumblr media
Is Guilmon really stronger than Agumon? How about Gatomon versus Renamon? Or how about a mega level battle of Beelzemon versus Omnimon? These were and still are important questions worth asking for any Digimon fan. And these sorts of playground questions are why this game was created.
Tumblr media
The gameplay features two opposing Digimon battling it out on one of the several different stages in a 2D plane. These stages are typically filled with unique stage hazards and ring out zones with randomly spawning items in the form cards which have a myriad of effects on the battle. These cards mirror the "Digi-Modify" or "Card Slash!" mechanics from the Digimon Tamers series . The roster is filled with Digimon supported by their appropriate tamers from the show with the same familiar voices for each character featuring over 20 playable Digimon. Unlike "Super Smash Bros" this game features a more traditional health bar system and draining your opponent's life bar to zero means victory. Each Digimon has two special moves and a myriad of normal attack strings you would expect in a fighting game. Right away in a way one would expect from this beloved franchise, Rookie level Digimon are capable of transforming into a stronger even more capable form in the middle of battle through Digivolution. Digivolving improves your stats and gives you a completely new different move-set than before meaning you as a player are often switching dynamically between different gameplay experiences. There are few things that feel better than securing a comeback victory with your favorite mascot Digimon because of a well timed Digivolution. Oh and wiping the floor with your opponent using Wargreymon's mighty signature technique, Terra Force.
Tumblr media
The main modes of the game are arcade mode and versus modes. In the Arcade Mode you take your selected Digimon through an arcade style ladder of bouts plus a few mini-games along the way with the goal of unlocking more characters. That is until you reach the new big bad of the game at the top of the ladder. Reapermon (Also known originally as Gokumon or ゴクモン) is a very difficult opponent to overcome and even now he still manages to give me trouble. I and along with anybody else who has ever played this game know of the horrors of his most powerful technique "Burning Cyclone". He is a cheap old school style boss who will test your skill at the game as one would expect from an older fighting game eating your quarters though in this case you thankfully probably own the game and you have as long as necessary to defeat him. Thankfully if you are struggling you can use some in-game cheat codes to fast unlock some Mega level Digimon along with other goodies to help even the odds. As far as versus modes go you can battle a friend locally or even play the mini-games against them. I spent many sessions having tons of fun fighting friends in this game. For an early platform fighting game the controls and mechanics are quite responsive which makes for amusing competitive bouts.
Tumblr media
The graphics and soundtrack of the game of the game are very impressive for the platform. The Japanese version of the game features many arrangements of songs from the anime series. However the game does have one big problem: the framerate slowdown is a persistent problem throughout the experience with this game. Unfortunately they are the game's immediate faults but the game has so much excellent fanservice content and a surprisingly responsive solid fighting game underneath that it is easy to forgive the shortcoming. This game is still pretty awesome and loaded with nostalgia for me having grown up with Digimon. This title gets my recommendation for any fans of Digimon to experience especially the Japanese version of the soundtrack if you are ever in need of a quick nostalgia-fueled adrenaline rush.
A gem hidden among the stones, Digimon Rumble Arena is unquestionably stardust.

*blows a kiss* 47, 62, 64, 77, and 91
Hi!!! *kisses and hugs*
ask game referenced
47. what story are you most proud of?
I'll have to break fandom lines for this one, since I haven't published much in the snk fandom, but it's definitely my rhaenicent fic Remorse is memory awake (idk why I'm linking it nobody here cares, but oh well). I'd never worked with two different timelines in the past, but I'm supremely proud of how that one turned out. Chapter 3 especially has this huge brawl that breaks out between the characters where everyone's involved and the rising tension is just excellent.... sometimes I worry I'll never write anything half as good again.
62. what’s the weirdest reason you’ve ever shipped something?
I thought I was weird for shipping Armin and Annie lmao, but turns out there're many of us. And I started shipping them because I took the Female Titan Arc as a thinly veiled metaphor (and not so metaphor) about Armin falling in love. But turns out, my weird ass assessment was kind of canon? Isayama is just as weird as the rest of us, it seems.
64. what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve read?
For someone who agonizes over titles, I sure don't notice them a lot lol. Most of the time I remember a fic from the premise rather than the title. Right now the only one that springs to mind is These City Lights by Katsy0c0, because I feel like it captures the tone of the story perfectly.
77. how do you write kissing scenes?
Hmm, I guess it depends on what I want to achieve with it. Is it the first kiss? is it the 1000th kiss? the last kiss? Also, is it meant to be sexy, is it meant to be romantic, casually intimate, tragic? I go into more or less detail based on the answers to these questions and the language changes as well.
91. how has your writing style changed over the years?
This is something I don't really pay attention to until I read my older work. Other than the technical stuff (better sentence structure, more complicated and yet simpler plots, better handling of tone) I think the main difference is that these days I'm trying to be more vulnerable and honest on the page.
I used to write a lot of things that sounded cool, but with very little substance to back them up. Like I still write this sort of thing, it's just that now I'm allowing the characters to do most of the heavy lifting without forcing them into impossible scenarios, and I believe the end result is more impactful that way.

My Thoughts On: Virtual Console
I don't think I've done this yet?
Hey there, it's Alex! Wow, seems like all my blog posts are about a decade late to the discussion? I mean, even the whole idea of a blog like I'm running feels dated in a bygone era. Oh well, i don't really care, this is fun!
I love Virtual Console! The idea of playing all your favorite older games digitally on a more modern console at a fraction of the original price is revolutionary! The Virtual Console brand started with the Wii Shop Channel where you could purchase them using Wii Points (that's a whole topic unto itself) for previous Nintendo platforms, such as the NES, SNES, and N64, but some third-party support came in the form of Sega's Master System and Mega Drive/Genesis, SNK, and even Commodore 64, what? They had some pretty niche games on here, but also many of the biggest titles like all the 2D Mario games, Metroid, Zelda, pretty much anything you could ask for! They were missing some classic N64 games like Banjo-Kazooie for obvious licensing reasons with developer Rare's acquisition by Microsoft, and GoldenEye 007 which recieved a Wii remake. Other games like Earthbound or Panel de Pon weren't available because they hadn't yet reached the level of popularity they hold now (especially in Earthbound's case).
Quick tangent here, but I still think the DSi should have gotten Virtual Consoles. I mean, it already had an eShop! There were DSiWare games being developed just like WiiWare games! Plus, they removed the famous Gameboy Advance slot (or "Slot 2" as it's officially called), so this would be the perfect opportunity to make users repurchase their favorite GBA games, and maybe GB/GBC games that were previously unplayable on the DS, and install them on the DSi! They probably could have squeezed NES and maybe SNES VCs on there too if they tried. This was such a huge missed opportunity that would've added validity to the DSi, and could've truly pushed the DS to being one of the best consoles ever, even more so than it is now. But I digress, moving on!
After the Wii came the 3DS, sporting the 3DS eShop and, you guessed it, portable Virtual Console! Yes, finally, handheld VC titles! The 3DS ended up having Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance (exclusive to Ambassador Program), NES, SNES (New 3DS only), Sega Master System, and Sega GameGear.
The GBA Virtual Consoles only had a small handful of titles released alongside the eShop, and were only available to download for free by members of the Ambassador Program, users who bought their 3DS systems before the price was cut a few months after release. They later introduced SNES Virtual Console, which is amazing! But instead of putting in effort, they said "Oh, uh, the old 3DS isn't strong enough to run SNES games, you need a NEW 3DS" and really? Is it too weak? You mean if I open my original model 3DS right now I won't see a fully functional homebrew SNES Virtual Console collection? Really? Moving on...
After the 3DS, Nintendo quickly released the WiiU as their new home console! This too featured an eShop, and Virtual Console! This time, GBA was available to everyone! They also added DS Virtual Console, which is very cool in my opinion! From what I hear it wasn't executed very well, but that's such a unique idea! They also added certain Wii titles to be downloaded and installed, sort of like a VC, but not part of that brand. Those will forever be in a state of purgatory...
And finally, we come to the Nintendo Switch, and... nothing. Nintendo has completely done away with the Virtual Console brand, and broken my heart. Instead, if you sign up for Nintendo Switch Online, their online gaming service, you get access to NES and SNES apps loaded with a bunch of retro games, but most of them are just random things most people don't care about. If you upgrade to the NSO Expansion you get N64 and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis apps, but again, so far there's just not enough games to warrant the huge price jump of the Expansion. So far there's not a whole lot of value to the service, and we're still waiting on more to justify it. Personally, I'm thinking GameCube would be good candidates for this line, and a GC app would make me instantly upgrade!
As a more recent update, Gameboy was added to NSO, and Gameboy Advance as a part of the Expansion! This is a great step forward, but its not everything they need to add value to the Expansion. Still, good job, Nintendo!
The Virtual Console name has a lot of history to it, and a lot of fond memories from gamers such as myself who remember downlaoding and playing all sorts of games on Wii and 3DS from older consoles. Today, as the brand has been done away with on Switch, and the 3DS/WiiU eShops closing, it seems that era is ending... but don't forget! With homebrew you cans till find the installable files online and put them on your console! There's also tools to make your own custom injects for the 3DS! We can still enjoy new VC for many years to come with these wonderful tools from dedicated developers.
Thanks for reading, and be sure to ask questions and suggest new post ideas in my ask box! Stay safe, stay hydrated, and God bless! Happy gaming to ya!
~ Alex
